Why You Feel So Powerless
If the Holy Spirit of God lives within every follower of Jesus, why do we sometimes feel so powerless, empty, frustrated, or unable to change? We may know the right theology and believe the right scriptures, yet still wonder why His presence and power do not seem more evident in our everyday lives.
In this message, Trevor shares an honest personal moment that led him to examine three possible reasons we can feel disconnected from the Spirit’s work: we may be unaware of what we have been given, we may be grieving the Holy Spirit through the way we treat others, or we may be quenching His influence by repeatedly resisting His promptings. You will also discover the important difference between conviction and condemnation, what it means to truly abide in Jesus, and how the Holy Spirit gives us the power to become people of love, freedom, obedience, and Christlike character.
This is not a message about trying harder in your own strength. It is an invitation to pray a simple and honest prayer: “Holy Spirit, show me what is happening in my heart, and give me the grace to take the next step.”
God is not asking you to fix everything by yourself. He has given you His Spirit, and He is ready to lead you.
AH! AHHHH!!! Tibafana! TIBAFANA!!! What it is, what it ain't! It's time to put another one in now! Livin' in a van down by the river! I tell y'all, with a tear in my eye! It's time! Oh, what it is, what it ain't! What it is, what it ain't! It's time to put another one in that Pando app! BANG! Baby, my name is Trevor. I'm a part of a small church here in Northeast Florida with an amazing, incredible DOC family. Hopefully, just like yourself. If you've not subscribed, what are you doing? What are you doing? We have a heart to help you champion every season of your life, even the season you are in right now. Now, I've got a lot of stuff up here that I normally wouldn't have. Let me, let me cover up this whole forehead first. That is step one. Rockin' my shirt that Hatcher made me. Thank you for that. Appreciate it. No prime this week. Uh, I've got a headache from the pits of Hades right this second. Now, I don't get headaches very rarely. Um, but I've got one right now. So, I'm trying to, I'm like, man, do I have a drink enough water? I don't really know. I started doing, um, like a little shake thing in the morning, and I don't drink coffee, but I started putting just like straight black coffee into it. Maybe that's it.
I don't really know. And not that you even care. So, anyhow, glad to have you here. Got a new segment I want to do at the end of the show today called, Can You Preach That? So, I'm just gonna try it, see what it does. Maybe it's a one and done. The context is, the, obviously, we know, especially if you watched my last episode, I've got to change some things, have to do the videos at the end. No problem at all. Had a great, uh, conference call with Pando. Was it yesterday when I'm filming this? And they were just incredible. I can't say it enough, y'all. Listen, they are great, great people working behind the scenes. They have a heart to serve all of you. And without them, we wouldn't even be able to have this. Um, but have some different things that we're gonna shift and do different. Um, but what was I gonna say? Oh, oh. I remember this segment I saw when I first got saved. I went to this, like, church conference. Um, it was, like, for, like, church leaders and stuff. I wasn't even a leader in a church. I don't even know how they let me in. Um, but the point is, they had this one thing for preachers. And they brought these, you could either go watch it or you could participate. I, I wasn't even speaking at all at the time. And, uh, it was this place in Orlando called Faith World at the time. And, and they did this thing. It was, like, this breakout session.
And they'd go, um, it was called Can You Preach That? And they would just give random things. I think Nick Cannon did a show about that, like, rapping or singing or something like that. They give you random stuff. And their thing was, can you pull out of something ordinary, something, like, supernatural, extraordinary with biblical principles? And so it was a cool thing as, as a young, I mean, young, young, young Christian. Uh, wasn't even speaking or anything like that yet to watch and to see. So I'm gonna try that. Can I preach that? A couple different things I have an idea on. But today, uh, we are going to talk about this. If, if the Holy Spirit of God is so good, the very Holy Spirit of God, if he is so good, then why do we feel so powerless at times? Now, we're gonna take a short break. Just like we've done before, we're gonna either go take a ride on a motorcycle, a boat, a jet ski, a surfboard, something like that. And here's what I want you to do. I'm not just putting the stuff in there to put it in there. I want you to take a moment and calm your heart. I want you to take a moment, just be present with where we are at. Take a moment, kind of get out of that cell wherever you are all over the U.S., all 50 states, whether you're in Arkansas or you're all the way up in Maine or you're in Florida. If you're in Texas, maybe you're in Missouri. Speaking of Missouri, I am coming out there in August. We're finalizing everything. It looks like, I mean, it's like 99% done. Actually was putting in my time to get off of work. Today, I should be talking to the chaplain again, either today or tomorrow.
Out there, I'll be coming out there to, what is it, PCC. PCC is where I'm coming. It's early, early August. Yeah, out there at PCC in Missouri. I'll be out there early August finalizing everything, putting in for time off from work. to do that. And then it's gonna be fun. I've never done anything like that. It's gonna be a really good time. I think I'll be there almost three days inside the prison there. So what was I saying before that? Oh, to get out of wherever you are, like to get out of that dorm for a moment, to get out of that faith-based camp for a moment, to get out of that detention center, that jail for a moment, whatever it might be. And here's why, to kind of just be present with what we're doing here so we can kind of focus, all right? So that's what we're gonna do. And then when we come back, we're talking about this. If God is so good, if the Holy Spirit is so good, and God has given me His Holy Spirit, we talked about that in the episode, You Can't Follow Jesus Without This. If He is so good, then why, why does it feel like sometimes He has so little influence in my life, or I have so little power in my life? Like, if you're that good, then why am I not seeing it in my heart and in my life? Let's jump into today's message. One thing, I don't know why, it doesn't even matter how hard you try, keep that in mind, I designed this rhyme to explain in due time, all I know, time is a valuable thing, watch it fly by as the pendulum swings, watch it count down to the end of the day, the clock ticks life away, it's so unreal, didn't look out below, watched the time go right out the window, trying to hold on, I didn't even know, I wasted it all just to watch you go, I kept everything inside and even though I tried, it all fell apart, what it meant to me will eventually be a memory of a time when I tried so hard and got so far, but in the end, it doesn't even matter, I had to fall to lose it all, but in the end, it doesn't even matter, One thing, I don't know why, it doesn't even matter how hard you try, keep that in mind, I designed this rhyme to remind myself how I tried so hard, in spite of the way you were mocking me, acting like I was part of your property, remembering all the times you fought with me, I'm surprised it got so far... All right, I got a bunch of different notes just kind of written down, not as organized as I'd like to be, let me hit a little of this aqua,
that little bit of that h2o, uh, all right, here's what we know, and this is what we have covered, that we have the very Holy Spirit of God, that there's a Father, the Son, the Spirit, the Trinity, and we have, as a Christian, that's what we believe, and we have the very Holy Spirit of God as a disciple, here's how it works, I'm just going to give a quick review from the last one, again, that was You Can't Follow Jesus Without This, it was probably two episodes ago, go back and watch this, I go more in detail there, right, but the Holy Spirit, Jesus says this in Luke 11, if you good, or excuse me, if you sinful people know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more does your Heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him? Jesus literally says, listen, think of a good gift that you would give, first of all, y'all have given me so many amazing gifts, and thank you, thank you, thank you, I'll say this too, you're like, well, I can't ever send you anything, here's the gift that you could give, is you could row with us, we call Champion Church a rowboat, and we encourage you, if, in whatever way you can, in whatever way you can, row with us, let somebody know about the show, let somebody, you know, know on the outside about the show, to watch it, or whatever it might be, spread just what you've learned, encourage somebody else, anything like that is helping us row, of course, several of you have sent amazing things in, man, that is, like, I've never in a million years would have thought about that kind of stuff, but thank you, thank you, thank you for that, but even with all these great things that you have done as a gift, the question is this, as good as those are, Jesus says, and is this true, essentially, that Jesus says, if you know how to give good gifts, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask? He's like, okay, you thought that's a good gift, let me take it to this level, and show you that God giving you His very Spirit, the Holy Spirit of God is ten thousand, Thousand times better than anything you could ever imagine now even Jesus himself Had the Holy Spirit Luke talks about this a lot Luke 1 talks about Jesus was conceived by the Holy Spirit Luke 4 is it that we know that Jesus is led by the Spirit into the wilderness? We know coming out of that Jesus was filled with the Spirit I've got Romans 8 here, but Acts chapter 10 Acts chapter 10 would tell us this about the Holy Spirit Watch this about Jesus in the Holy Spirit Acts 10 38 and you know that God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and
With power, what do I have? I have some reading my Bible here says God is with those who have impossible assignments Which is all of us. All right, that's a good I don't know when I wrote that in there But essentially and you know that God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power so even Jesus himself Has the Holy Spirit when he was on the earth today? All right, then Jesus went around doing good and healing all Who are oppressed by the devil? For God was with him. So Jesus had this very Holy Spirit Jesus says this is the good gift that my father's gonna give Jesus calls the Holy Spirit a good gift in Luke 11 and In Acts chapter 1 verse 4 tells about a good gift now Jesus would say in John 14 Just kind of reviewing a little bit here and John 14 Jesus would say that he is going to send the advocate the helper the one that come alongside you the word there would be Parakletos and and you're like listen, I know I sound like like I made honestly. I sound like that Justin Bieber song What was that one despacito? Yeah. Oh Yeah Boy, oh man Boy, I love me some Latin culture. Anyhow, it sounds like I'm saying that I'm not it's a Greek word Parakletos, I think it's how you say if I'm not saying it, right, whatever But it's essentially this it means one to come alongside to help defend her comforter Strengthener What's another one? Advocate all of these sayings is who the Holy Spirit is to us and then Jesus would say listen It's best that I leave so the Holy Spirit could come he says listen Don't go to Jerusalem, but wait or go to Jerusalem and wait This is Acts chapter 1 verse 8 for the power of the Holy Spirit that will come upon you Then Acts chapter 2 if you go read it in your Bible We see it's a day of Pentecost The Holy Spirit is poured out for everyone and people are confused They're like what in the world are these people drunk and Peter's like no, they ain't drunk
It's not a clock in the morning Like first of all, I love how Peter's like listen if it was later, maybe but Peter's like it's not a clock in the morning They're not drunk. Here's the issue and or sorry. Here's what is happening It is a fulfillment of Joel chapter 2 that God would pour out his spirit on all flesh So everyone who is a follower of Jesus if you have repented of your sins, may Jesus your King Guess what? You have the very Holy Spirit of God Peter gives a sermon says listen It is a fulfillment see in the Old Testament and the Old Testament The Holy Spirit was only for a particular people for a particular moment on a particular assignment now after Acts chapter 2 for the last 2,000 years the Holy Spirit is for every disciple of Jesus so if you make Jesus your salvation The one that makes you right with God you believe he is the one and true way to Yahweh to the Father Then what happens is this now? You have been forgiven of your sins. You have been given been made a new creation second Corinthians chapter 5 and Now you have the very Holy Spirit of God Romans chapter 8 Let me give you some some proof on this don't ever just take what I say for granted go to Scripture for it But you are not controlled. This is what it says by your sinful nature You are controlled by the Spirit if you have the Spirit of God living in you and remember That those who do not have the Spirit of Christ living in them do not belong to him at all notice now watch verse 10 and Christ lives within you so even though your body Will die because of sin the Spirit gives you life because you have been made right with God The Spirit of God who raised Jesus from the dead lives in You and just as God raised Jesus from the dead He will give life to your mortal bodies by this same Spirit living in you You have the exact same spirit that raised Jesus from the dead that Jesus was full of now You have it as a disciple of Christ What is it 1st Corinthians 619 let's go there 1st Corinthians 619
Don't you realize is what it says don't you realize That your body is the temple of who the Holy Spirit Who lives in you and was given to you by God You don't belong to yourself for God bought you at the high price So you must honor God with your body You are literally the temple of the Holy Spirit now is what this says and and you've been sealed by the Holy Spirit Ephesians chapter 1 Just giving you a few here Ephesians chapter 1 or uno Uno would be one in Spanish Verse 13 don't know what 13 is in Spanish And now you Gentiles have heard the truth the good news that God saves you Gentile would be someone who is not Jewish That's the easiest way for me to describe it. That's if you're not Jewish, that's us and when you believed in Christ He identified you by as his own by giving you the Holy Spirit Whom he promised long ago. The Spirit is God's guarantee that he will give us an inheritance He promised that he has purchased us to be his own people he did this so we would praise and glorify him Literally, it says there. I mean, this is incredibly clear like sometimes you like man. That's about as clear as mud No, this is incredibly clear when you believed in Christ He identified you his own by giving you his Holy Spirit. You have the very Holy Spirit of God now We believe he's part of the Trinity. He is what Jesus had we talked about that Romans 8 we have them now watch this watch this, but honestly Why does it not always feel like I have him now? I'm gonna talk a little bit about myself Okay, but I'm not just trying to be like self-centered I'm just the one talk. So I sometimes I like to tell stories on myself instead of other people's stories because I want you to know number one, I'm not perfect like I I am a mess just Like so many people I have issues God do I have issues? Okay, so I'm not perfect I'm just walking with Jesus. I do love Jesus. I certainly do not get it, right? I screw it up too many times the more times I'd like to admit I struggle with things I've struggled with for as long as I can remember I talked about that a lot in past episodes go back and listen to those I don't have time to go into and I'm not trying to get myself all upset But the point is this I am NOT perfect and sometimes I look at my life and I go man, I know
theologically scripturally Biblically, I know because of God's Word to me that I believe is inspired and true and for me that I have The very Spirit of God the issue is why don't I feel that sometimes? Why do I feel like I only have myself? Why do I feel like a piece of? I'm trying to be better at my cousin. Why do I feel like that sometimes? Why do I not feel worthy of even carrying his spear? Why do I not maybe hear him like I would want to and sometimes I have to just stop and I had this moment this Week because sometimes I feel like why can't I do this stuff that's in my heart? Like I had these dreams in my heart God Why can't like like what is holding me back and I know it's me oftentimes like Lord help me Just see this stuff or here's what happened a couple days ago I was at work and Sometimes I'll listen to the AI music that many of you hear on here that I love that kind of stuff And then sometimes I'll just listen to music. I like things been well documented on this show I love like 2000s rap late 90s early 2000s rap. That's why I was in high school a middle school high school So that's kind of like what I go back to but I love all types of music I really do. I love all types of music and I'll listen to all types of music and Sometimes though, I'm just like, you know what? I just need worship music I just need to turn my heart to the Lord like I see to abide in the Lord like John 15 5 abide to me and I'll bite into you And you'll bear much fruit, right? So Sometimes for me that's just listening to worship music just just having that in my in my air pods or whatever So I'm at work. It's hot man. It's been hot in Florida, Northeast, Florida heat index has been like It's been consistently between 108 and 113 it feels like every day yesterday was cooler. Thank you Jesus It was only a hundred and one yesterday. We've been hitting it's just been ridiculous. Anyhow, and humidity here is a vivid Vivid that's VI VI D vivid Got worship music listen to it all morning literally all morning I'm in an okay place. I'm not trying to pretend that I was like Walking on water, you know, I was like, whatever sometimes they're just like that
Sometimes because of what I struggle with with my depression that I know Jesus will heal me of one day. Hasn't happened yet, but I'm one day closer. That's how I look at it. And I'm just kind of like, eh, I'm just kind of like, eh. But I've been listening to worship music all day. Somebody says something at work, and it flips a lid in me, where I went from just, eh, to just absolutely off in about 2.7 seconds. And I was frustrated, and I started letting it fly. What is this? Okay. I walk away from that. And as I walk away from that, I don't know if you've had this, where you want to have this fake argument. Like, that's right, I told them. That's right, I set them straight. That's right, I said my piece. And then as I go to do that, I felt like the Holy Spirit just spoke to my heart. It wasn't audible voice. I don't know how this feels like this nudge just spoke to my heart. It was like, hey, what's going on? Like, all right, let's talk about that. And I felt convicted. I didn't feel condemned. I felt convicted.
Because I was like, man, I've been trying to abide all morning in the Lord with worship music, and it was good. I loved the worship music. I sang along to some of it. I was thinking about Jesus. I was turning my heart, loving on him. But then I had this moment where I just flipped a switch, and I was like, Lord, where did that come from? Like, I know it came from my heart, again, theologically, like, out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks. I'm like, Lord, I want, like, I know you are in my life. Like, we have the Holy Spirit. Peter in Acts chapter two, remember we talked about the literal people who were guilty of murdering Jesus, killing Jesus, said, what do we do? Peter says, repent, be baptized, make a public declaration of faith for the forgiveness of your sins, and then you will receive the Holy Spirit. That's Acts chapter two, verses 38 and 39. We see it clear. So when you repent or are baptized, you are forgiven, and you're given his Holy Spirit. So I'm like, Lord, I know I am saved. I know I have your Holy Spirit. But then at the same time, this, like, essential filth just flew out of my mouth. Like, I hate that I was like that.
I hate that I spoke to someone like that. I hate that I'm not even an angry person. I promise you, like, some people have anger issues. I'm not throwing stones. I've got my own issues, right? So it's not like, oh, this is something, I'm just stumbling over again. I'm like, Lord, what is going on here? And I felt like the Holy Spirit, he didn't condemn me, he convicted me. There's a big difference. Condemnation says I'm a piece of and I'm not worthy of being loved, and that is not from God. Please let me say this clearly. That is not from God. When you begin to tear yourself down, I'm not just talking about self-assessment of man, like, listen, I need to shift that or do, like, whatever. I'm talking about when it becomes this thing of I am worthless because I continually mess this up here and here and here and here. That is what is condemnation, and there is no condemnation in Christ Jesus. There is none, not a little bit, not just some. See, sometimes, man, and I'm guilty of this. As Christians, we're like, well, let's have a little bit of condemnation because a little bit of condemnation keep people from getting their life all over the place. No, there is no condemnation in Christ Jesus.
Romans chapter eight makes that incredibly clear. What there is is conviction. Condemnation will push me away from Jesus. Conviction pulls me to him. I don't know who coined this. I'm so thankful for this, and I've seen it so many times on social media. It's like this. Condemnation is where you sin, and you're like, oh my gosh, do not tell my dad. Conviction is where you sin. You're like, oh, I need to go tell my dad. There is a difference there. Condemnation pushes me away. Conviction pulls me close, and it's him pulling you close. It's the kindness of God that leads to repentance according to Romans chapter two, and that is dos in Spanish, okay? Now, I felt the conviction, and I began to just have this saying, Holy Spirit, what's going on? I know you're in my heart. What's going on? And he started leading me in three ways that you can have the Holy Spirit, and if you're a disciple, if you've accepted Jesus, if you've hit that button of where I've accepted Christ, maybe you've done it before, but if you never have, Pando makes it incredibly easy where you could do it right there today.
Give your life to Christ. Listen to me. I believe it's the best thing you could ever do. I really do. If you have done that, you have been forgiven, and you have the Holy Spirit of God. The thing is, why do sometimes we feel powerless? Why do I feel so empty still? Why do I feel that I don't have the very Spirit of God? Like, why do I feel like that? I feel like the Holy Spirit showed me three reasons. Number one is ignorance to what we have in him. I mean that in the purest sense. See, I remember one time someone called me ignorant, right? I was young. and They're like, oh you're ignorant or something. I don't know how they said it. Well, I didn't know what the word meant So I was like, well, first of all, that was mean and then I literally had to go look it up I'm like, oh ignorant just means unlearned. I gave the basic Definition ignorant means I genuinely don't know. I'm just unlearned So sometimes I have to admit there's a lot of stuff on ignorant about in God's Word There's a lot of things. I'm ignorant about his Loving kindness for us, right? So I I just went and I said, okay What do I have then in the Holy Spirit? Come on iPad work for the love of all that is holy There we go, okay, so here's what we have in the Holy Spirit Here's what I wrote down three categories the Holy Spirit and what he does in our life. Here's what we have We can't be ignorant in this. I'm gonna hit these quickly Holy Spirit forms who we are the Holy Spirit forms how we live the Holy Spirit empowers us to impact your world Okay, for he forms who we are. He gives this new life He gives this new life the Holy Spirit lives with now. These are all based off of Scripture 100%
Okay, I don't have time to go to all of them. I didn't these are all completely based off of Scripture He lives within us. He assures us we belong to God. He seals us now. He teaches us. He leads us He helps us pray. He convicts us. He gives us freedom where the Spirit of the Lord is. There is freedom He sanctifies us. He produces Christ-like character the fruit of the Spirit. He empowers how we impact the world Okay, and here's how he does this and impact the world around us. He gives us power acts 1a He gives us boldness acts for he gives us spiritual gifts This is first Corinthians 12 Romans 12 Ephesians 4 and he unifies the body of Christ. This is what we have in the Holy Spirit of God if we're ignorant, we won't realize what we have in him Now if you don't realize he'll lead you and give you wisdom Then you'll never ask God for it If you don't realize he'll teach you if you don't realize he'll give you special gifts as he decides to give to the church Then you'll never ask him for it. You know I'm saying like if you don't know then Alright, we've had this happen so many times people like man I didn't know what was on Pando and then somebody told me about the show Well, if you don't know and the pure sense you're ignorant to it doesn't mean anything just means you haven't learned yet So if you don't know what the Holy Spirit does in your life, how are you gonna access that? How are you gonna walk that out? How are you gonna turn to him? Holy Spirit convict me not condemnation Holy Spirit convict me show me what I need to learn He showed me number one if you feel powerless if you feel like man I don't feel like I have the Spirit of God there's ignorance there, but then there's two other things. The first one is this Hit that aqua is We limit His control of our life through Grieving the Holy Spirit. This is Ephesians chapter 4. Let me read some notes. I have on this. I Jotted this down this morning the word Means the word grieving. This is Ephesians 4 would say do not grieve the Holy Spirit. Let me say
I think I have it here in my notes Would say do not grieve the Holy Spirit. Yep, Ephesians 430 now Paul is talking Specifically about bitterness rage anger slander unforgiveness and malice. Okay, so we talked about this in a couple episodes ago I don't remember the title you have to go find it and Then he talked and he says don't grieve the Holy Spirit says get rid of these things and don't grieve the Holy Spirit Here's what grief means just gonna read it from my nose for a second time It means to cause sorrow to the Holy Spirit spirit to bring this distress into wound a relationship Notice this is all relational language. Okay, it's all relational verbiage here Paul doesn't say you make the Holy Spirit leave. Nope. That's not what he says. He says Don't wound the relationship between you and the Holy Spirit. Here's the thing The Holy Spirit is not just a power source. He is a person Imagine someone you love a ton. Okay, so imagine someone that you love a lot if you constantly lie become bitter refuse forgiveness Eventually, like I'm not some relationship guru by any means but if you constantly lie become bitter refuse forgiveness shouting all that kind of stuff like I You don't need dr. Phil to show you communication suffers the relationship might still exist But the intimacy does not and I think that's what Paul's point is The spirit will still indwell the believer But the fellowship becomes strained because our hearts begin moving in the opposite direction of his that is grieving the Holy Spirit Grieving the Holy Spirit is wounding that relationship does not mean he is going to leave as a believer you have them But his fellowship I wrote it like this becomes strained because our hearts begin moving moving in the opposite direction of his. I see it like this. If our heart, let's just say, is this table, and the Holy Spirit only has a small portion of the table where the water bottle is and the ore is, if the Holy Spirit only has this,
and then we're letting bitterness, rage, anger, unforgiveness, all this kind of stuff on this side of it, of course his influence is gonna be small, I should say. Let me make it clear like this. Oftentimes, we're like, well, how much of the Holy Spirit do I have? And I think maybe the question is, how much does he have of me? Like, does he have the whole area, or do I have him to the corner, and am I grieving him because of the way I'm treating other people and what I've let take up the majority of my heart? See, I see it like this. Grieving the Holy Spirit happens through things that deal with other people. It grieves the Holy Spirit's heart. It's a relational thing. When it has to do with other people, rage, bitterness, malice, Ephesians 4 lists all that kind of stuff. He says, get rid of them. Unforgiveness, get rid of that and don't grieve the Holy Spirit because it will literally hinder the relationship that you have with him. Now, there's another thing, 1 Thessalonians 5 would talk about this, called quenching the spirit, okay?
That's a whole different word here. Now, quenching literally means to extinguish a fire. Think just any type of campfire, bonfire, whatever, all right? Now, think if someone is extinguishing that campfire, bonfire, whatever, you're gonna throw water on it, but you might put dirt on it, might pat it out, whatever it might be. He's not saying the fire disappeared. He is saying you begin to quench, you begin to snuff out the fire of what the Holy Spirit is wanting to do in your life, right? So I wrote it down like this. This is a broader application than grieving. We grieve our relationship with the Holy Spirit by the way we treat people when we don't treat people with the kindness and the goodness of God. And you're like, I don't know how to treat people good. Actually, he will give you the power according to Acts 1 to do the very things you never thought you could do. Man, I have not said this in any of the times I've taught this, but I feel this strongly. Some of you literally, like, yeah, that'd be awesome to treat people well, but I don't know how to do that. I've never treated someone well. That's what has got me in this position so many times. I've never actually known what love is.
I've never actually known what someone caring for me is. I've never actually known what someone giving a about my life is even looking like. And so you're like, hey, you're talking about all this stuff, but I don't really know. Let me tell you something. I feel this so specifically for, and I know this isn't for everyone, but this is for a few of you. You say, I don't genuinely know how to love people because I've never felt love before. First of all, that shatters my heart to even think about, but I want to look you in the eye through this app, through this lens, and tell you this. He will actually show you and teach you what true love is through his Holy Spirit. He will give you the actual power according to Acts chapter one, verse eight. Not, and see, when he gives us this power in Acts one, it is for inward formation and outward impact. And he will literally give you the power to learn how to love people. And again, I know that's not for everybody, but for some of you, that's for you. He will give you the power to actually know what love is and how to love others. The quenching of the spirit is a broader thing than grieving the spirit because I believe it's like this. It's anything, I'm trying to think of the right words to say with this, that's suppressing the spirit's work
in your life, okay? So I'm just, I wrote a few things down. Ignoring his promptings, refusing obedience, constant distraction, choosing selfishness in the flesh repeatedly, living without prayer, neglecting scripture, refusing conviction, living independently, and every time he nudges, we turn away from it, that is quenching the spirit. If we say, okay, I have the Holy Spirit of God, but why don't I feel him more? It could be ignorance, it could be grieving, it could be quenching the spirit. Again, grieving is relational. I'm resisting his character is essentially what you're doing. It's usually connected to sin against God's people or other, I shouldn't say God's people. It's usually connected to sin against God's, I said it again, against other people, okay? Especially sin that destroys unity and love. That's grieving the Holy Spirit. Quenching is more functional. That's the best way I know how to put it. It's like I'm resisting his activity, I'm ignoring promptings, suppressing conviction, I'm not yielding, and I'm choosing myself over obedience to that. All right, grieving hurts the relationship, quenching limits his influence in my life. Grieving ignorance, you just don't know.
How can you access something you don't know? Grieving, relational, quenching limits the influence. All right, now, if you feel powerless, let me give you a prayer to pray. A prayer, my goodness, prayer to pray. Holy Spirit, show me which one of those are me and what's a small step I can take right now. See, here's the thing. He's not gonna ask you to get it all right and get it all together. He's gonna lead you and do it. You can't do it on your own. Jesus says, John 15, five, you can do nothing on your own without him, without his spirit, without that power. You can do nothing. So just say, all right, Holy Spirit, show me and then give me the strength, give me the grace is what we would call that in the Christian world. Give me the grace and the strength to do this and to walk this out. I want to be the person you are calling me to be. And I don't wanna be ignorant of your spirit. I don't wanna grieve your spirit and I surely don't wanna quench your spirit. So show me these things. Show me one little step. Show me one little thing I can do. And I promise you, I promise you, he will. I think that's all I have written down on my notes.
I hope this helps you. I hope this grows your relationship with Jesus. If you've never given your life to Jesus, he will forgive you of your sins. He will make you right with God and he will give you his Holy Spirit. Maybe today is the day to do just that. All right, here's what I wanna do. If you look through pretty much the last, I don't know how many episodes, how long have I been talking? Okay, if you look back through the last several, however many episodes, you'll notice we do some type of scenic something at the end of the message. That's intentional guys and girls. Ladies and gents, that's intentional. Here's why. Before we jump into everything else, have a moment to take this all in. Sometimes it comes through God's beautiful creation of nature and thank God through video we can look at that. So before we rush out, maybe that prayer, take the next three or four minutes. I don't even know what nature one we're gonna do. I'll figure that out when I'm putting all this together, when I'm editing it in a few days. And just say, all right, Lord, speak to me. Notice his beautiful creation. And notice this, according to Matthew 6, the birds, I don't know if we have birds in it,
but the field you see, the beauty you see, he actually loves you more than he even loves those places. And maybe a simple little video like this is a reminder that you need, that he's crazy in love with you. God is not mad at you. He's madly in love with you. Let's jump into the rest of the episode. I do not recall that, okay? Doesn't ring a bell. Sorry, I have no recommendation of those. Do not recall any of that. This Abdullah Haqiqi. No, I don't recall it. You do recall it? No, I don't recall that at all. All right, here we go, let's try this segment. Can you preach that? Here's what we're gonna do, look at different videos and say, okay, what from this video can I try to pull something of some type of biblical principle, narrative, any of that kind of stuff? Let's check this one out. 10 and a half, my best 240. We do 200? You said 240 is best? What about 220? In the last month, I buy you 10 or 12 birds in your website, come on, man.
Oh, you buy with the website? Yeah, man, all retro 11. Fire. Yeah, so come on, 240. 240 is best? All right, we'll take it, we'll take it. We have an order back home we have to fulfill. It's sold for 280, so can't go wrong. Thank you, brother. Thank you, man, thank you, bro. Thank you. All right, easy, first pick up of the day? Yeah, of course, brother, let's do it. Easy. All right, guys, we just picked up the Appetite for Destruction SBs. It wasn't caught on camera, I picked them up when I came back from the. We paid 260, let's go sell these. 350? I don't even know what they go for. They go for like 900 new. I'm blindly buying for 200 bucks. No, I'd pay more. You don't want it? Nah, I'm fine. Okay, okay. 350? Okay, all good, brother. Eight and a half.
350? How much? Ugh, that's low. I can't, I'll do three. Nah, I know, it's up, yeah. Oh, I think he was round like that. What I paid so yeah, I'll rip it at a dollar man. I'll get crushed. Really? I thought they loved the SBs All right, so this is at a sneaker convention I think this one was in Houston TX which is Texas Which is in Houston and essentially what you're seeing this dude doing is they're flipping shoes now Why does that matter because work matters people God like he made work it is okay now work is gonna look different for everyone I mean this kid. He's not a kid. He's a grown man. I shouldn't say that and I don't mean that drug tour I think this guy I'm like man. This is awesome. What you're doing like Flipping shoes making money on it that kind of stuff. There's nothing wrong with buying something and then selling it for more There's nothing wrong with it. Look at him do it again Brand new I Would really want to be like 4,000 on a nap I told you 43 on a 9 Somebody told me it was a 9. That's why I was looking I didn't scan it. It's a nap. Yeah. Yeah, I'll do 4,000 You gotta get the floor it's like best if we could do 45 I think this I'll be at 4,000 Okay, I appreciate your brother. Yeah, thank you. What's up dog? He's you got him retail My problem They went down a lot in price just because the Jordan one high mark is cook. I would really want to be like 800 You can't do eight You got any higher offers here. You're the first guy stopped up to be honest. That's like where a market is 1100 do a brand That's a great price right there
You do 850 I Can sell them on stock X for cheaper than that? I mean higher than that. I mean if you the cell is like Well 50 take out your 10% sell was 789. I really appreciate you Now one thing you'll notice in watching this guy that I really enjoy is he knows his stuff. He knows his market Christians, let's just say if you're in the workplace You need to be one of the best people in that workplace. Nobody wants a lazy Like Christian in their workplace working for them for some of you on a work camp, man You should stand out as being one of the hardest workers in the room for being light for being salt For being the one that when you show up you I thank God they showed up today Which I guess you don't really have a choice. You understand what I'm saying, though I like that. This guy knows his market and for you, whatever you might be doing men know what you're doing Be engaged in it. Don't just use things like yes, every season is a robo We talked about that so much, but don't curse the rowboats You're in you're in this one right now You might as well pick up the oar and row the best that you can because that is what God honors That is what God promotes. That is where he opens up things for you that he might not open up for any One else. Yeah, not in this place. Well with that faith, of course, it ain't gonna happen then I'm not trying to be rude But it's not gonna happen. I love that. He knows this stuff now watch this as well and pick up on something You notice he'll look at his phone. Now. What is he doing? He's checking things out. He's referring back to stuff. Look at this How much you want for both this Like 260s 250 do 160 You offer 220 already I'll do 220 and 180 you'll do 400 for both I could do like 240 on that I'll do 220 About 200 on this 180 200. I mean I said that's a terrible deal for you I'll do 180 220 I'll do 180 240 I'll do two. I'll do two. Bottom two. Just 200 straight? No, like two or two something. Two or two twenty. Two or two twenty.
I'll do two 220 if you want. That's pretty So what do you want to do, $200, $240? Alright, why not? Alright, so can I preach that? Alright, listen. Are you going through life checking back maybe on things that we know are factual, things that are true, things that are real, things that are firm foundation in our life, which is the Word of God? Are we turning to Him when we aren't sure? That's what I love. I see these things and He would turn and say, okay, well, what is it on here for sure? Are we turning to God on things we aren't sure of? Are we keeping Him as the baseline, the foundation of everything I do? They're used? Yeah. How much? 50? 50? It's hardware used. Yeah, I know. I get it. What about this one? It's hardware used. Yeah, I know. I get it. What about this one? Honestly, I was trying to get like two of them right there. You have the box for both? I got box for both. You do $120 for both?
I was really hoping for two for both. It's tough. Do $160 for both. I really don't want to go lower than $200 because I didn't even want to get rid of these for $100, but I'm just kind of ready to go. I'll do $160 for both. I'll do $200. I'll do $160 for both. I'll do $160 for both. I'll do $160 for both. I'll do $160 for both. I'll do $160 for both. I'll do $160 for both. I'll do $160 for both. I'll do $170 best. $170? Yeah. Okay, come up to $30. $30 both? $30. Those were actually going for a decent amount of time. They were. They're used though. It's not bad, but. I mean, like I said, I only wore them for like four hours. I literally wore them for Thanksgiving and then never took them again. Yeah. $170? $180. Wish you the best, man.
Thank you so much. All right. I feel like that one, I did it enough justice, flip it, shoes, whatever it might be. Here's what I want to say to several of you have asked, can we teach on certain things for people when they get out? I'm going to look into that and see number one, what I'm allowed to say, what I'm allowed to do. And then I want to give you guys some real practical things. I think that would be cool. If I can, I don't know. We'll have to see. All right. The next one. Woo. This next one lights me up and the pun is intended. Oh, fireworks. And I ain't talking about baby. You're that firework. As Katy Perry said, baby, you're that firework. All right. Can I preach that? Here's what I would preach. If someone said, okay, preach some of the fireworks. Number one, quit wasting your money. No, I'm just kidding. I have family that sells fireworks. I joke around because fireworks to me is just like lighting money on fire. I don't really understand it. But what is a firework? It dazzles for a moment.
It's real bright. Everyone goes, ooh. 🎵 Some folks inherit star-spangled eyes Ooh, they send you down to war, Lord And when you ask them how much should we give Ooh, they only answer more, more, more It ain't me, it ain't me I ain't no military son, son of God It ain't me, it ain't me I ain't no fortunate one, oh It ain't me, it ain't me I ain't no military son, no, no It ain't me, it ain't me I ain't no fortunate son of the war Take it all Now here's the thing, after a few moments Those fireworks are still not burning in the sky right now In a few moments they're done, what's the point? Don't let your relationship with Jesus Be something that's just flashy in the beginning but then fizzles out Don't let your relationship with Jesus be like Maybe this is a way I'm gonna get out of trouble Don't let your relationship with Jesus be anything other than I know I need forgiveness of my sins I cannot make myself right with God I need the finished work of what Jesus did when he left heaven and came to earth For you and I to make sure that we would have a pathway to the Father through him That our sin and shame and shortcomings would not be held against us any longer But it was all paid for on the cross at Calvary
Thank you God, he rose again three days later So we could accept him, make a public decoration of faith and receive his Holy Spirit Now here's the thing, don't let it be anything but that and to make him the king of your life Don't let it just be a flash in the pan Don't let it just be a big boom moment Big boom moment I'm not a perfect person There's many things I wish I didn't do But I continue learning I never meant to do those things to you And so I have to say before I go That I just want you to know I found a reason for me To change who I used to be A reason to start over new And the reason is you I'm sorry that I hurt you It's something I must live with every day And all the pain I put you through I wish that I could take it all away And be the one who catches all your tears That's why I need you to hear I found a reason for me To change who I used to be A reason to start over new And the reason is you And the reason is you And the reason is you Instead... Let this be something that you walk with Jesus
in the fire of God is every day. What did we talk about earlier? Not quenching the spirit. Isn't it funny that in Acts chapter two, I don't think I said this in the message portion, but in Acts chapter two, he says, there was like tongues of fire. That's a representation of God's presence. You would see, and Luke is calling back to the burning bush in Exodus, calling back to Mount Sinai, the fire on Mount Sinai, calling back to the fire that was in the temple, okay, that would burn up the offerings, all that kind of stuff. And then now we see the fire is on every believer as we have received the Holy Spirit. Now, what's the point? Let the fire burn long. Don't let it be a flash like fireworks. Can you preach that? I tried. I feel like that might be my favorite one. That might be my favorite one. Okay, now let's do, I wrote some notes, but I think I'm good.
