You Have to Own It
Faith isn't something we can borrow from somebody else. We can be encouraged by the faith of others, inspired by their stories, and surrounded by people who love Jesus, but at some point, we have to make the decision to trust Him for ourselves. Hebrews 11 reminds us that faith is personal, and it's not just something we turn to when life gets difficult. It's something we get to live by every single day, in every season, no matter what our circumstances look like.
In this episode, Trevor looks at the faith of Abraham and Sarah, what it means to personally own our relationship with Jesus, and why our trust in Him should reach beyond what we can see or experience in this lifetime. We also talk about the hope of heaven, the promise of eternity, and why no matter how painful your past has been or how uncertain your future may seem, the invitation to follow Jesus is still available to you. Nobody else can make that decision for you, but it's a decision that can change everything.
I've been living a lonely life I've been sleeping here instead I've been sleeping in my bed Sleeping in my bed So show me family All the blood that I would be I don't know where I belong I don't know where I went wrong I can ride a song I belong with you You belong with me Why is there so many chickens on the arc? I thought you were only supposed to be two I can ride a song I can ride a song I can ride a song I can ride a song I can ride a song I can ride a song I can ride a song Hold me now I'm sexy from the air Then I'm together Maybe she's me It's your father Hold me now But it is what it ain't It's time to put another one In that living In a van down by the river
Tell y'all We're the tears in my eye It's time What it is what it ain't everybody Welcome in, welcome in Just come on in friends Come on in ladies and gents What it is What it ain't It's time Maybe it's time to put another one in that panda lab Bank My name is Trevor I'm so glad that you're taking some time today You can be watching a million other things But taking some time to hang out with us here At the Champion Church Show We are a small church located And I don't know I'm talking like this Located in northeast Florida It is that we are in St. Augustine, Florida Just south of Jacksonville About 25 minutes or so south of Jacksonville Where we have it hard to help people all over Just like you in the DOC family To champion this season To let you know you are seen You are loved by this church You are loved by me You're loved by so many
That make all of this happen That are part of this rowboat That we call Champion Church And we just say this man There's so many people Rowing to reach you right there Yeah, you're like Yeah, but you don't know me You're right, I don't know you You don't know where you're sitting at You're right, I don't know If you are in Oregon I don't know If you're sitting in Kingman, Arizona I don't know Maybe you're down there In Mac Alfred Maybe you're out there and boom Phil, maybe you're in Potosi Hanging out with Norman, my friend And Brandon and the whole crew Out there Maybe I don't know where you're at Maybe you're in Lancaster Maybe you're down there Where was the one I just talked to The other day I'm not going to be able to find it But it's C, C, F, R, C
Something like that down there in Orlando Maybe you're down there Maybe you're in Calhoun Maybe you're out there I don't know where you're sitting at today But I want to tell you this, man We love you We're honored that you'd be a part of this So many of you called Champion Church Part of your family Because you are a part of ours And we don't just say that lightly We mean it, that's how we pour into this Every single week To help you champion the season So whether you're doing just a little bit of a bid You're sitting in county Maybe you're sitting right here in St. John's County In this detention center Maybe you're down there in Indian River Maybe you're down there in that county Maybe you're sitting in prison Maybe Maybe you're sitting in the Stiles unit Out there in Texas Which also I want to say this guys I plan on coming out there I made it sound like I knew a date I did not I'm sorry about that
I apologize I apologize to your chaplain this week too I messed it up We are making that happen for sure Waiting for the state of Texas To clear my volunteer stuff But all of it's been submitted So I do want to say that to the Stiles unit My plan is to come out there We will figure it out when We got some dates in mind But we don't have them solidified yet So I do want to say that But what was I saying? Oh, how we just have this heart To serve you Whether you're sitting with a lot of dogs Down there with the black ox and Bob Wherever you're at We just want to serve you man We want to pull into you Help you So if you're doing a little bid That's what I'm saying Maybe you're a lifer So maybe you're a lifer I'm going to talk a little bit To them specifically towards the end of the Show today Towards the end of my part of the show today
But anyhow The point is this To help you grow in your relationship with Jesus relationship with Jesus. We are Jesus people. I don't, you know, like I'm glad you're here. Maybe you're watching 'cause you're like, man, I wanna see what we riding today. We riding a Harley, we riding a horse, we riding a boat, riding a surfboard, what do we ride? Where are we gonna go today? Like what country are we gonna go today after the message? And if you don't know, that's how we do it. I ramble a little bit, we go on a ride on something just really just to be out of maybe the current mindset that you're in or the current, maybe even room that you feel like you're sitting in that cell, whatever. And then also I had no shirt. Shout out to the people who sent me a shirt and says what it is, what it is, what it ain't, had champion shirts 41 on the back. I thought I had it in my truck 'cause that's how I was gonna wear and I'm in my work shirt. Also the crew that sent me this, thank you so much with the champion shirts, got that bills, colors on it. Go bills, baby, one last night in that Monday night game which I'm telling you, I love the bills, we're just, I don't think we're legit this year, we're just not, we're all over the place. It's neither here nor there. What was I saying?
Oh yeah, so I'm gonna teach. And then we just do like somewhere, you kinda just ground yourself in it. We go on some type of look at nature, look at different things like that and to see God's beautiful creation. Then we do some, can you preach that segments? And then at the end, we've been trying to put in stuff for those that man, you're getting out and you're not sure what you wanna do. And I'm just trying to get you through these like entrepreneur moments at the end of the show, right? I'm just trying to get you to think, that's it. Like think of something, maybe all you've known is being in the game or all you've known is X, Y, or Z. To get you to get your mindset, that there is things out there that you can do to make a legitimate living to provide for your family and to be generous with others, right? 'Cause that's why God blesses us in the way he does, right? It's not just so we can have nice things and we look at a lot of nice stuff, how many car shows have we done, right? There's nothing wrong with anything or there's nothing wrong with having possessions as long as possessions don't have us. Does that make sense? So all that being said, let me hit you with some tour dates that we got coming up. November 2nd, looks like I'll be out there
in Lancaster here in Florida for the Revival Services there. November 4th, Willacy Unit in Raymondville, Texas. I'll be out there. November 5th, Segovia unit in Edinburgh, and then November 6th in Lopez in Edinburgh as well. November 30th, that will be out there. I'll be out there in Kingman Correctional in Arizona as well, right? So, and then again, I know I'm going to styles, I don't know when, okay? So, but we will figure all that kind of stuff out. And yeah, it was a wild weekend, wild week for me. Got that prime, baby, that PRI and me. And it rained so much in Northeast Florida last weekend. It was a little wild. Like it was rained, it was nice to see the sun 'cause we have not seen that in a minute. But it rained a ton and then I had like three funeral things I had to do. So, I had a Friday night, had a Saturday morning, and then a Saturday afternoon. And then obviously church on Sunday, which is always fun. There was my son's birthday. It's Jason Legend. That many of you have seen here on the show, Fishing. It was Jason Legend's birthday. A couple of weeks ago, we got to go out, I actually go out on the boat with my mom, and she was kind of filming us.
And I need to put, so I haven't went through all that footage, but I need to try to put some of that together. It was not a good fishing day by any means. And my mom doesn't fish. She was just happy to be out there and doing some stuff with Jason. And, but yeah, so that was the weekend. Chase's birthday. And then all of a sudden, Monday night, or Sunday night into Monday, I guess sometimes like stomach bug or something, Jason had it too, so I don't know if it was something we both had eaten. We ate a lot. So actually, I never, ever, ever, ever do this. I took off work for a sick day, right? And I know like you're supposed to do a lot of times, I just power through. And, but I took off work for a sick day, just wasn't feeling great. I'm still kind of feeling, I haven't even had a real meal necessarily, because I'm a little scared to eat. But that's kind of where I'm at, man. I'm in here on Tuesday rocking and rolling and excited to give you guys the word. So I think that's about it. Oh, I want to say thank you, David Evans. You know how you rode with us. You picked up an oar and you rode with this here at Champion.
There's some, all of us can do and everybody does it in a different way, right? So some of you, you row with this, meaning this, like if Champion was a big robo, it takes everybody on that robo to move that thing forward. So how do you row with this? You can just tell somebody about it. Let somebody know. Let some, let a family member know back home. Hey, go on there. We do have it on our Champion Church YouTube page. We have a few of the Pando app episodes, but we don't have all of these 'cause I am. I'm filming this just for you all. Like last week's episode, I can't put that on there. Number one, YouTube would block it with all the different music and stuff like that. Tell me about what you hear or determines what you do. I had a lot, a lot, a lot of fun filming that last week, probably too much fun. And, but anyhow, you let somebody know, maybe if somebody just gets moved to your pod or gets moved to your camp, whatever it might be, and you know what they're going through, there might be an episode, man. We got 35, 40, maybe even more than that episode's up that you can watch, and maybe you're just letting them know, That is picking up an oar, and that's rowing with us. If you've ever seen those like rowing teams, it's everybody rowing together. There's not just a few of them chilling, it's everybody rowing together, and then here's
the cool thing. When the team wins, everybody wins. This is not just one person, we've said this for us, not just me. It might be my dumb face that's on everything, but it is not me. It takes all of us rowing together, guys. We don't trend. We don't have the reach we have in the DOC. We're not helping people and seeing people give their life to Christ because of me. It's all of us. This is just where I sit on the robo. You sit somewhere else, right? You sit where you sit, and you could be that light in that place to pick up an oar into roe with us, and sometimes it's just letting people know, "Man, go check this out. Go look at this," and some of you, you have went beyond that, and you have been generous. Thank you, thank you, thank you. I never expected any of that kind of stuff, but I love when you all take that step of faith. You did that this past week, same way Gene Ellis did just recently as well, man. So many of you, I just really, really, really appreciate that. I think I said that right, David Evans, I said, I think I did, and then Gene Ellis was a couple of weeks ago, but thank you all. Thank you, thank you, thank you in any way that you're rowing with us. You watching, you're seeing an ad-sag right now, potosi. How can I roe? You know how you could roe. You could roe with us being a part of let somebody know. First of all, y'all are talking, everybody's out there yelling. It was wild to me to see that. Anyhow, let somebody know, man, I'm going to roe with champion. If you've now subscribed to us, what are you doing?

So, all right, I got that Bible, I got that B.I.B.L.E., that's the book for me, Praise the Lord. Let's go and open up to Hebrews chapter 11. If you don't have a Bible, remember here on the Pando app, there's a Bible down there. It's like those three little buttons down there somewhere, there's a Bible. Hebrews chapter 11 is where we have been. I encourage you yourself to be in it as well and to read it and to consume it. And God's Word is a life to us, I am telling you that. We've been in Hebrews chapter 11 for the last couple of weeks, just looking at the difference that faith can make it for you and I. And when we said faith, just kind of catch you up in case it's your first time watching the show. When we said faith, we said like trusting in God, that's what that word means. Faith is not just believing.
Faith is actually trusting in God that He is who He says He is, and that He will do what He said He's going to do. It is trusting in Yahweh, it is trusting in Jesus and trusting in His Holy Spirit. All right. So that's what we believe here at Champion, right? So we believe in the Trinity and all that kind of stuff. And if you don't believe in that, that's completely fine. You don't have to write me about it. Don't save the stamp. I don't mean that to be in a rude way. I have a core belief on that and you're not going to change that, but, but I see scripture when it comes alive in this way of trusting God in faith, man, it just, let me say the best way I know it's faith will legitimately change your life because you don't see anything anymore through, through your lens, right? Everything now is through the lens of God that, that it is, it might be impossible with man, but it is possible with God. And one of the things I've been trying to do so much in my life now is not just have faith for crisis moments, not just have faith for tough moments, not just have faith for moments that I'm ministering or speaking or serving somebody, whatever, but to implement and engage my faith is the best way I know to put it through everything I'm doing in my life. On my desk at home, I have written down like how can prayer help me in this, right? I have another thing written down that says, how can technology help me in this? And then this, this, and that's not a priority what I'm about to say because now I'm like, okay, well, how can I, how can I trust God and whatever I'm doing in every situation, every scenario, everything in my life, how can I trust Him? And that's what we see in Hebrews, chapter 11, remember last week we looked at Noah by faith, Noah being worn divinely by God, moved with godly fear and prepared an arc for the saving of his household. I think that was pretty close. I know a butcher a little bit, but you understand what I'm saying?
We said, Noah heard and then he moved, right? So we're trying to curate these moments in our life where we're hearing, what's the Lord leading me to do? What's he speaking to me? What's he speaking to me out of his word? And for many of you, I mean, let's be honest, you're sitting in a cell, right? Are you sitting at a camp? So you're going to have a little bit more time to just dig into God's word. And it's, it's, it's, I'm not saying there's not distractions because we know there, there is in prison jail, can't, whatever you're at, but at the same time it might be a little bit easier to grow your face now. So I would like take advantage of that time, grow your roots deep in him, curate those moments where you are pouring God's word into your heart and then listen for the nudges. That's what Noah did. He walked with God according to Genesis 6 and 9, and then we know he heard from God and moved from there. But then, then, if you're reading Hebrews 11, verses 8, 9 and 10, it says that Abraham had faith to leave where he was, right? And then once he got there, he had faith to trust God there. And then when God was moving in him again, he had faith to see ahead. So what does that matter? Those verses that can kind of be like, okay, well, I don't understand how this applies in my life. Well, I'm glad you asked. Because here's the thing, faith is for every season. No matter what season you are in, no matter your age that you're in, no matter your socio-economics, no matter how you grew up, no matter your race, no matter your affiliation. Faith in Jesus Christ is for every season in every situation. It is not just for the tough moments that you're going to sentencing. It is not just for the difficult times when that loved one quit talking to you back home.
It is not just for the moments when something happens and you're dorm or in your camp and it shakes everybody, you go on lockdown. Those are great times to lean on God for sure, but his word and trusting in him and standing on his word is not just for tough, difficult, big moments. It is for every single day. And if it was only for those moments, then it would be impossible to please him with our lives, but instead we can What are you speaking and speaking to me? That's why I have a written down on my desk. How can faith help me in this? Like how can I engage in my trusting God and trusting his promises in this situation, in this season, in this scenario, right? And what I love is to do that. You almost have to make, my cousin says it like this all the time and I really like it. He says you have to not have yourself as the hero of your own story. You have to realize it's Jesus. Colossians tells us he is the preeminent over all and over and he sits higher than all and that should be in our life as well. Does that make sense? I know I'm rambling a little bit but then we go to verse 11, right? So we go to verse 11 of Hebrews 11 where it says, "By faith, Sarah, herself." It was, "By faith, my Sarah, self was able to have a child "though she was barren and too old. "She believed that God would keep his promise."
She did. Notice that she's married to Abraham. We're about to come back to Abraham in a few weeks but she's married to Abraham and Abraham is known as the father of faith but even Sarah, she couldn't lean on Abraham's faith. She had to have faith for herself. For some of you, your family, man, they've trusted God and they have faith and maybe there's somebody at your prison, man. They are like the pinnacle of faith. That's great. Other people's faith can and should inspire us. Maybe you're inspired by the way, I trust God. That's awesome. But here's the thing, at the end of the day, all of us will stand before God at the Great White Throne Judgment and according to Scripture, they will open up the book, the Lamb's Book of Life and they will look to see if your name is in there and the way you get your name in their according to Scripture is you accept Jesus as your Savior and as your King. Meaning you believe this, he is the one true God, that he left heaven, he came to earth, that he is who he says he is. He was not just a prophet, he was not just a good man but he was the Messiah, is the Messiah, the Son of God, that Yahweh had promised since the beginning of when that he would give his son
to remove all the sin, the shame and the shortcomings that I'm giving you a 30,000 foot view, but track with me and that if you accept him and his work and his ways and his truth that you would not perish, but you would experience eternal everlasting life. Now here's the thing, when they open up the Lamb's Book of Life and they go through that and they look for your name as you stand before God, if, how do I want to say this? You're not going to be able to say, "Hey, I was a part of Champion Church." That doesn't matter. It's, did you have faith yourself in Jesus? You're not going to be able to say, "Well, man, I rode with Trevor." That's important. Obviously, we talk about it all the time but you're going to have to have faith for yourself. You've got to accept Jesus for yourself. It can't be me doing it for you. I had to accept Jesus for myself. I couldn't rely on my, on people that I respect and love and honor and care for on their faith for me. No, I had to have faith for myself and so do you. And so I love it says by faith Sarah, her self-trusted God, she was, I mean, literally married to Abraham, but she had to have faith herself. So it doesn't necessarily matter at that point who you're connected to.
It matters because all of us together are rowing together but you need to make sure. I can't save you, man. I can't save you. You have to have faith in Jesus. And if you've never personally put faith in him and trusted in him for the forgiveness of your sins and for eternal life, maybe today's the day you do that. Hando makes it incredibly easy. There's a button right below me where you can hit that and they'll walk you through the whole process and really how you start this journey of faith. And then there's a moment you can comment, leave your testimony. I read all of those and I don't get to respond to, well, to any of them really, but I do read all of them. And I think that's incredible for sure in the stories that y'all say on there and all that kind of stuff. But the point I want to say is this. I love that it says by faith Sarah herself. You've got to trust him yourself, man. You got to trust him yourself. Hebrews chapter nine, verse 27, I think it is. Where it says this, it says, "It's appointed to man to die once and then the judgment." Like we're going to stand before God and answer, did we accept him as followers of Jesus is what we believe. Did we accept Jesus as our personal Lord and savior? As our personal savior and king for us and believe that he was the one true way to the Father
according to his words in John chapter 14 verse six where he says, "I am the way, I am the truth, I am the life, no one comes to the Father except through me." Like we have to believe that for ourselves. And then here's the truth of the matter. Let's just, we haven't really talked about this on the show, but let's talk about it. Now I'm going to give a very 30,000 foot view of this. When you accept Jesus is what we call salvation is called being saved right and you hit that button You've never done it. They walk you through that whole thing There's a lot of videos on panda about that which I would encourage you to go watch Just search like salvation or being saved or any of that kind of stuff or give him my life to Christ You can search all that in the search bar on panda. There are hundreds of videos on that okay now What happens at that point is you either go to eternity with God Or you go to eternity separated from God now Here's the thing God doesn't want anybody separated from him But but he also does not push his will on anybody so was his second Peter chapter 3 Where it says he doesn't wish anybody would perish now God's not sending anybody away from him That's what we would call hell right God's not sending anybody away from him It's our own decisions whether we accept him or not is going to do determine whether we spend eternity with him or not now Eternity in heaven. That's the that's the thing we have to realize that is very real now heaven There's a lot that goes into it. I mean, I love eggnog. I don't know if y'all love eggnog. I love eggnog Um, I enjoy a good dr. Pepper. Okay. I enjoy Horrible food that is horrible for me. I don't know if that's what heaven's gonna be like and actually we're gonna rule and reign With God, and there's a lot that goes into that that we're not gonna go into it today But the best way I could probably put it like this thing the best day of your life and multiply it by about 10,000 and that's every day forever It's every day forever that we are with him the Bible says that all of pain is gone All the tears are swept away. There is no more heartache. There is no more sorrow. There is no more shame There is no more darkness all of that is gone
We get new bodies in heaven as well that are not decaying. It is essentially like going back to the garden before the fall Is what we're gonna have now. I think we're clothed. I don't think we're walking around naked But either way, I would I know this we get new bodies. So here's what your boys open for I Don't know. I'm just like Lord Can you make me look like Matthew McConaughey? That's all I mean Lord, please. Let me look like Bradley Cooper, please God in heaven Please Lord, can I can you give your boy some habs please to the love of God? Oh? Do I need them in heaven not now? I've just given up on them. But anyhow, what are we talking about? That's neither here nor there you we get new bodies. There's no pain There's a sorrow and we see the people who accepted Jesus the great heroes of faith There's some of your loved ones. You know are there you'll be reunited with them I say like this in heaven. There's gonna be people your shock that made it to heaven There's gonna be people that are shocked that you made it to heaven if you accepted Jesus There's gonna be people that shocked that I made it to heaven But the point is this we're gonna be with the father and we're gonna see face-to-face the one That we have put our faith in That's what we believe as Christians. So the thing is God's not sending anybody to hell people like to say that. Oh, you you God sends people to hell How could I believe in that? Well, I might first of all that is one of the most ignorant statements you can make Because that just tells me you've heard what somebody else said and you took it around with it as absolute fact And you never actually read his word that revealed his son in Jesus and he's not sending us there It is our own decisions that send us there. He made it actually incredibly easy Here's the wild thing about salvation is it's a free gift You don't have to earn it and then like if he just too makes this incredibly clear It's not something you boast about we just receive the work that he didn't say you know what I believe you are the one true God And that you are the way to the father and because of that I'm submitting my whole life to you then Ephesians 2 10 tells us that there are things for us that were planned long ago for us to live out Yeah, but I'm sitting in jail that doesn't stop his grace That doesn't stop his plans and his purposes or any of that kind of stuff now that here's a phase We've been reading about in Hebrews chapter 11. Let's get back to that Verse 13. Here's the crazy part verses 1 through 12. It's building us up trusting God have faith in God
It's what pleases him these heroes of old man They have trusted him and they saw God's promises and then verse 13 says this it almost comes out of like wait a Man out of left field. It says all these people died still believing what God promised them They did not receive what was promised, but they saw it all from a distance and welcomed it They agreed that there were foreigners and nomads here on earth now jump down to verse 16 for sake of time But they were looking for a better place a heavenly homeland That is why God has not ashamed to be called their God for he has prepared a city for them So here's what I want to say two things this says they all died believing But not yet receiving now if you look at that you're like wait a minute that doesn't really make sense because He did receive stuff and so that that's not what the writer means the writer does not mean they didn't receive anything because again would see that they did receive the promises of God. But it says they died believing, and here's, I'm gonna give you two sides of this coin. Okay, you ready? The first one is this, is they were believing all the way through their last breath. They didn't give up on trusting God. They never threw in the towel. They trusted God in every season. I like to say like this, they must have had a faith that even if God doesn't do everything, and I don't see everything He promised, I'm still gonna believe Him. And that's just a shift of mindset that could be one of the healthiest things in your life, is even if God doesn't do anything else in my life, I'm still gonna believe Him. Is that Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, when they wanted Him to, them all to bow down to Nebuchadnezzar
and Daniel chapter three, I think it's like verses 17 through 20 or something like that, go read it. Nebuchadnezzar's like, you're in bow to me. They're like, we're not gonna bow to you. And Nebuchadnezzar's like, I'm gonna throw you into a burning furnace, and they're like, well, do what you gotta do. But we're never gonna bow to you. And even if God doesn't deliver us, we're still not gonna bow to you. He's still worthy of our trust in our faith. That's where I want us to be at, right? Like, hey, listen, even if God doesn't come through, which I believe He will, but even if He doesn't, I'm still gonna believe in Him. Even if Jesus doesn't do another thing for me in my life, I'm still going to believe in Him. I believe He will, but it's not about that. My faith is solidified in the one who left heaven for me who on a cross hung there, beaten. With blood-stained eyes looking at you and I, saying, you're worth it. You're worth it. That's why I trust Him no matter what. No matter what, man. He's like, He's it, He's it. That's the best way I know it, but Jesus is it. And it says they died believing. Let me just encourage you.
Don't shrink back in your faith. Life is tough, man. I'm not denying that what you're going through is, I'm not denying where you're sitting at. Might be dark. I'm not denying that you might be in a living hell and that's all you know. I'm not denying any of that, but I want to tell you this. Jesus is still worth it. He is still the answer to all of it. His words are still life and He still promises to give us life in an abundant way. And you're like, no, I don't know if that's true. Would you dare to trust Him? And would you dare to just make up your mind? I am following Jesus. Come hell or high water. I don't give a flying, whatever. I'm still following Him. I might not be perfect. None of us are. Welcome to the club. I'm still going to follow Him. He's still the one that my life belongs to. It says even they died believing, but then it goes on, it is clear they were looking through this life to eternity. Let me tell you something. There's more to this life than this life. There's more to this life than this life.
For some of you that are lifers, or some of you that are sitting on death row, some of you know that you will take your last breath behind those bars, and that's a serious, serious, serious deal. For some of you, you have no idea where you're going when you get out. And you don't even know what life could look like. It's scary and it's unsettling. Let me tell you something that doesn't have to be is eternity. Old preacher saying is this, heaven is a prepared place for a prepared people. Heaven is a prepared place for a prepared people. And here's what I'm going to tell you. It tells us there that he has prepared a city for them. Jesus would say in John 14, I'm going to prepare a place for you, right? Matthew 25 talks about a well done good and faithful servant enter into all that has been prepared from you since the foundation of the world, right? So eternity is a prepared place for us. Now, I don't really understand all that of what's being prepared and how that's going to look, but God does and I trust that he is going to be faithful enough that I can trust him in it, right? Now, there's some things I know. I'm just don't have time to go into it, okay? Now, it is a prepared place for a prepared people. The way you're prepared is you accept him.
Like no one's getting into heaven and be like, how do I get here? No, you know, you know. You know, I cannot be forgiven absolutely you can. Saul was a murderer, okay? Pretty bad dude. Hands up being Paul. God changes his life and he actually has a seat in heaven specifically. That's the story for a different day. I'm just using as an example. Listen to me, he can save you, he will save you and he can even change you on this side of heaven before you even walk into heaven. And then I will say this, that shame, that guilt, all of that hurt that you feel, that maybe you've inflicted even. Listen, all of that will be gone when we stand with him forever. The question is, will you accept him? Will you accept the work that he did? I can't say it enough. Pando makes it so easy to take that first step with the button below me. And if you say, man, try my, just keep, mess it up, I go back and forth. Listen to me, this shouldn't be a message of that. that there is, like you're hearing this for a reason. Ma'am, sir, you're hearing this for a reason because there is hope for you in your life.
No matter how dark it has been or how evil written has been or tough or whatever. Like, I mean, put whatever word you want in there, man. Salvation is still for you. Forgiveness is still for you. You can still have good fruit come out of your life, even if you have never seen or people taste and see that he is good because of what he is doing. And you, and then when we do that, when we take our last breath on this side of heaven, we will stand with him if we have accepted him as our personal Lord and Savior. We will forever. It's a prepared place for a prepared people. So are you ready for it? Think about this. (gentle music) I can't imagine how long the days can feel for so many of you. I can't imagine how long the years have felt for so many of you. I can't imagine that and I'm not gonna try to. I heard this, I mean, when I was a kid, I heard this is and it stuck with me. Even how long those days may seem this life is temporary and this life is not that all there is to this life. There is eternity ahead. Eternities like this, think of a beach. I want you to picture this beach with all the sand. If you've ever seen sand, we all know what it's like.
It's these little granular things that make up this massive beach. I heard the gentleman tell the story like this. He said, if there was a bird that took one grain of sand and just moved it just a mile away, let's just say that. And he did one grain of sand a day. Next day, one grain of sand moved it a mile away. The next day, one grain of sand and moved it a mile away. Could you imagine picturing that beach? How long that would take. Can you think about that? How long it would take to get all of that sand just a mile away? The years and decades, centuries it would take. Here's the thing. By the time that one bird was done moving all of that sand from just that one beach to just one mile away, by the time that bird, however many years, months, decades, centuries it would take, by the time the bird was done moving everything, eternity has just started. So where we place our faith of where we're going to spend it, it matters. If we accept Jesus, he is the one in true God, his words are true and his words are life. He is the one sent from God that paid for all of our sins, shame and shortcomings. When we accept him, we are accepted into the kingdom and our name is written in the Lamb's book of life. We will spend eternity with him in heaven.
If we reject him, we believe this. We will spend eternity separated from him and where the Bible calls hell. The choice is ours, man. Listen, listen. Choose Jesus. Choose Jesus. There's more life in it than you can realize because that eternal life will be secured for that whole eternity with him and then you experience it now and you don't have to go through your days wondering if your life matters. 'Cause you'll know it belongs to him and when it belongs to him, you can't help but to be light and dark places. You can't help but to have fruit from the Holy Spirit that other people taste and see and God is good. And maybe you turning your story around and giving it to him is what other people need to see for them to do the same. My name is Trevor. I love you all so much. I love you all so, so much. I hope today has spoken to you. It's helped you. And I hope you are making a decision to follow Jesus. Until next time, God bless you. I love you.

Chase and I had a few hours, you see him over there to come out and it has been a slow, slow fishing day to say the least. Chase and I have some ideas of stuff he has watched on YouTube and wanted to do and well, it didn't work out like that but so we do a couple bridges and then really no good luck down there so we came off to our favorite little baby shark spot. And save for getting anything but it is slow so can you preach that, okay, so if somebody had suggested the other day a road trip which I was like man, it is a little harder to find that on YouTube which I did, I found one or whatever and here is when I was thinking about a road trip, you kind of know the destination and you might know the roundabout way you are going to get there but you don't know every little detail of the trip right and there are a lot of times you are going to have to face, you are going to have to face, listen to me, you are going to have to trust what is leading you, you are going to have to have faith for what is leading me. That is a softball one, I am going to trust that God's word is the right way for me, that God's way, Jesus is ways, the way the truth of life is right for me, right, that is what I have to trust. I might know the ultimate destination like we talked about being in heaven or whatever but how am I going to get there, sometimes the winds, the turns, all that kind of stuff. I know my salvation is in him but my journey, maybe that is what I am trying to say, the journey that I am going to take before I get there and it is all going to change, it is all going to move. So I think that is probably the first one in this road trip that we will do of can you preach that, listen, you don't know how all of the journey is going to go but you know the destination which is heaven, so trust the one who is our Creator and the one who wants to lead you and guide you. I hope, I don't know, that one went better my mind but can you preach that, I tried. Hey guys, well honestly the road trip video did not work out. Well, I'm sure he took the road to get there. [CHEERING] [CHEERING] He's simply stomach. Sensational. And at this point, in the matchup as well, to go into all that, you've got to be kidding. I thought I'd messed it up because it wasn't the best chop smash from La Rulea, but I mean the tenacity, the ferocity. It just looks so unlikely. OK, as a quick disclaimer, I want to make this incredibly clear. Several of you have asked about how do you open a tattoo shop when you get out into the free world again. I found this guy. I'm not affiliated with him whatsoever. I guess he did around 10 years or something like that in prison. And he got out and started a legitimate tattoo shop. So, of course, I have to say this. For legal rights, I do not condone whatsoever. You do it in tattoos in jail, whatever you do that's on you. But this is one, just kind of idea of how to do this legally. He talks a lot about money. You also have to black out quite a few things and I have to chop it up. But hopefully, this will help you if that's something you want to do, at least to get the conversation started to have an idea of what to do if you are wanting to start a legitimate business when you get out.
I love that so many of you want to be entrepreneurs and provide for you and your family. So, this is just another way to do so. I hope this helps in some way. God bless, love you guys. So, you learn, you spent 10 years honing your craft in there. You get out of, you do your time, you come out, and take me through how you even got from there to then starting the thought. Like, how did you even come up with it? Yeah, so, you know, going in there, I was practicing every day. I probably tattooed, like, maybe for about five years in there, you know, just trying to get it down to the point where I was like, I'm going to do this when I get out. Did guys pay you in there? Yeah, so they pay you with, like, commissary or, yeah. And also, too, I had a friend that had a tattoo shop and he kind of told me he was like, hey, you know what, the way you run your business in here is kind of like the way you run it out there. And I was like, what do you mean? He goes, yeah, you get your stencils ready. You wait for the client to come in, you know, you sit them down, you don't want to be doing your stencils or whatever while they're sitting down. 'Cause we only had a certain time limit in there to do a tattoo. We had from a certain time to a certain time
because then it was really stressful. And so, being out here, it's a lot easier, but I do manage my time when people come in, they book a session, I'm like, on it. Like, they're getting their tattoo, they're getting big tattoos, like, in five hours. But, yeah, I try to make the most of my time. So, tell me about that, that's really interesting. So, you got paid while you're doing it, kind of under the table in prison. When you came out, how much money did you need to start your actual? - So, starting off, honestly, like, yeah, I had a little bit of money, but, you know, they have a lot of knock-off equipment and stuff like that, so I started buying knock-off stuff just to get my, you know, get the ball rolling on it, getting money to buy the machines. The machines that I'm using now, they're a lot more expensive from what I started. But, yeah, it was just one of those things, word of mouth, you know, I had to work some odd jobs, you know, I was working washing dishes, I was working at a, like, a breakfast place and stuff like that, but, yeah, it was a process. It's not like one of those things overnight. You gotta put your name out there, you gotta get a clientele, all that stuff. - So, if somebody wanted to start a tattoo shop, and they said, Mario, how much money do I need
to start, like, how much do I need to just start? What would you tell them? - I would probably tell them, maybe, like, about, you know, if they don't have all their stuff, 'cause I acquired a lot of stuff over the years, it took me about, maybe, like, seven years to open up mine, but, yeah, it would probably be like, maybe, it just depends on what type of shop they want. Like, if they want a local spot to come in, they're just gonna, you know, like, they say on 7th Street, they're gonna need, probably, like, maybe 100 grand. - Wow. - Yeah, a little shop like this, you know, we're out here, we're a little more hidden, we're an appointment-only shop. It was, I probably, I opened it up, like, maybe with, like, about 50,000? - 50,000? - Yeah. - It wasn't really that bad. - Yeah, yeah. And you had some of that money saved up? - Well, honestly, it was like, I had, like, maybe, like, 25 of it, and then I had to just, as I made money, just kept on putting it back in here. (upbeat music) - How did you, before we started even recording, you mentioned that Roanoke, one of the cities, doesn't allow tattoos. When it comes to zoning laws, what did you figure out? - So yeah, so first thing I figured out,
and I kinda already knew from being in the industry, is that they still look at these places, kind of like they classify it with the industry. - So it's really hard to just be like, "Hey, can I open up a tattoo shop in Keller?" They don't allow it. They don't do it here in Roanoke, and there's little towns that do allow it, Fort Worth is pretty open. Arlington has a limit of tattoo shops. So right now they're maxed out at the limit of tattoo shops. So yeah, zoning was like the main thing. That's the main, the hardest part of the tent, the whole opening up a shop. - And does it cost a lot for a license to do tattoos, or is it just a matter of figuring out where you can and can't do it? - It's pretty much figuring it out. - And so it doesn't cost a lot once you figure out where? - Yeah, no, the tattoo license is probably like about $1,000. And if you wanna do portions and stuff, that's like a $400. - Got it. And do you have to renew that every year, or is it-- - Every two years. - Every two years. - Yeah, every two years. Yeah, that's the license that I got for a year. - Very cool. When you started, how did you think about customers?
How did you find customers? - So yeah, so starting off, you know, word of mouth, usually also Instagram. Instagram is like my big tool. Somebody taught me about hashtags, how to use hashtags. You know, I was locked up 10 years, so I come out, I don't know anything about social media. I'm doing a tattoo in my apartment on this kid, and he's like, "Hey man, you know, "he went to school for marketing, "he told me about hashtags, how to use them." So that's how I got my first tattoo job. I guess I put Arlington tattoo artists, and some guy reached out to me. And so there we go, I opened up the doors, and then after that, I was addicted to Instagram, and I was trying to get followers and stuff like that. - That's awesome. - As those followers kept on coming, and hashtags and stuff, people started reaching out to me through DMs, and, "Hey, can I get a tattoo?" And they just, it grew from there, and then I started working at different shops, bringing my name out there, going to competitions, winning awards, stuff like that, gets your name out there in the industry. And people are always watching, and posting, snapchat, all that stuff. Now it's TikTok. I got that painting right there,
trending in TikTok, the one that I saw outside. - All the one outside? - Yeah. - And you have other guys in your shop here doing tattoos. How does that work? Did you realize that you were getting more demand than you could handle, or was it a matter of, I got a lot of space here, and so I can have more people in here, how did you think through bringing us? - So bringing on other people was one thing I didn't plan on doing right away. I figured that I'd be like here, maybe for like a year, and I was like, you know what, I have this space, and why not, right? Why not make money off of it? So I decided just to go ahead and do a booth rental, but people came and approached me from being in the industry of people like, hey, are you gonna open up other stations? So I was approaching, I'm like, you know what, I'll make your stations. So I made some stations for this girl, another girl that was here, but she just opened up her own shop. - Oh, wow. - Yeah, and so he just started today, and he was working at another shop, and he's fixing to open up his too, so I told him, you know what, why don't you just hang out with me for a minute, and you know, between. - Yeah, and so is that how it works?
It's booth rental, so they pay for the space. - Yeah, they pay for this space. - And do they share revenue with you? - No, so basically everything they make is on them, they do their own paperwork, they file, you know, they file their own taxes, everything. - It's totally separate. - So yeah, everybody's pretty much a 1099. So in each tattoo shop, you actually go to it, most of the time, nobody's ever on hourly wage. It's always a 1099. At other shops, they do share like a 50% most of the time, putt with the shop, but not the shop. This shop is more for somebody who already has their own clientele. - Got it. - Yeah, and that's what I really wanted to cater to. I wanted to cater to more towards the artist than the actual shop. - Yeah, that makes any sense. - Yeah, and so for a booth, how much do you rent out a booth for? - A booth normally, it goes for like, well, it starts maybe like $300 a week, and that's like a going rate, maybe three to 400, just depending on where you're at. But yeah, this place right here is 300 a week. - I'd love to learn about the economics of tattoos. So pricing on a tattoo, how do you even price a tattoo? What's, I guess let's start there. How do you price a tattoo?
- So pricing a tattoo is basically and you want a piece from here to here. You could do a flat rate and charge them a flat rate if you want to, but once you've been tattooing for a while you already know your speed. Some people like to do it hourly and some people like to just do a flat rate since, like I've been tattooing for 13 years already. So I'm pretty fast when it comes to tattooing. Some people are a little bit slower. So sometimes if they're a little bit slower hourly rate would be better for them. But just like a, what's an all day session for you? - Eight to 10 hours? - Yeah, I see. So like they just say you want to do a flat rate at $1,800 for 10 hours straight. - Oh, got it. - That's like a, that's how we normally price. But if I see a tattoo and I know it's only going to take me an hour or so, I'll be like 150, 150 an hour. - Got it. And what about the average tattoo? What do you think that comes in at? - Average tattoo, you're at least going to spend $100. It's going to be something small. If diamonds have changed, some people still want $40 tattoos can't really find them anywhere. - Yeah, so about a hundred bucks. - But a hundred bucks to like 450.
Usually my average tattoo, they're always spending over $500. - Got it. - And then in a day, well it sounds like in a day of a $500 tattoo, how many tattoos could you do in a day if you were totally booked out? - If I was totally booked out, maybe I could probably knock out like three of them, you know, in a day. But I usually limit myself to one or two. - Yeah, is that more so just so you can slow down or just time? - Just like a slow down and it's more about the customer here, you know, like since this ain't in a walking shop, I'm not worried about people sitting down and waiting for tattoos, waiting on me. I'd rather have the customer, you know, my full attention to the customer and so they could get whatever they want. And it's nothing rush. So sometimes I'll even limit myself to one tattoo a day, but one big tattoo a day. But there's some days I'm like, okay, I'm going to make like, you know, 1500 today, so we're going to go, we're going to make that 1500. 'Cause these are just the awards that I won in the past expos and I'm going to expos and stuff like that really did open the doors for me. - Really? - Yeah, I went to my first expo. It probably took me about nine expos to win and until I won my first award, but--
- How do you find expos? - So, so these guys right here, Ink Masters, that's one, they're basically kind of like a, they're just like a group of people that they host a bunch of them. They got Villain Arts, they got other ones too that they do once a year. They have one in Galveston once a year. They do one here in Fort Worth. Like me and you could host an expo if we would like. It's pretty much, you just, you got to be in the community and they got to know people. Then you send out invitations, just get booths filled. Basically like a big tattoo shop for three days and you're renting out booths. And so you rent them out and you compete and you might win, you might lose. But it's always fun to go and it's also networking going out to the expos and stuff. That's really what it's about. Once you start networking and stuff like that, then you start seeing other artists start following you and then next thing you know, your friends and then your guest spotting at their shops. And it's pretty fun. - Right, you talked about social media and the power of that and how you came out of prison and suddenly you're introduced to social media. How do you think about it going forward? Are you just trying to be on every platform?
Do you do it yourself? How have you kind of tried to maximize what social media can do for you? - So a content, really content is one of the things that I've been doing myself. I haven't gotten a content person yet. I was thinking about hiring somebody to do content for me. But yeah, just posting and showing people that we're out here busy, that's really what opened the doors and what brings followers, doing expos. My followers and my viewers and stuff like that, they always love seeing that we're out there in the industry competing and stuff like that. So that's always helped me a lot. (upbeat music) - Who helps you with the financial part of business? Because for a lot of guys, including myself, when I started, I knew nothing about accounting or how to file my taxes properly for the business, how did you navigate all of that? So who helped you? - Honestly, I work on a lot of people. I have a lot of loyal customers coming back to me. A lot of these people own businesses, stuff like that. So just basically asking, hey, you're on a business. Oh, you know, a lot of my friends own tattoo shops and some of them are actually accountants or their wives in the accountant or something And so I'm just asking for advice most of the time I'm trying to still trying to get it together when it comes to numbers and stuff like that. I did have a problem though I did O on some taxes and that was one thing I did this year I had a file like old taxes and stuff and but uh, but yeah
So I'm just basically people that that's been helping me with my client asking for good advice from people around Exactly finding your way and figuring it out exactly and then also to these are people I trust already They trust me and so I'm already trusting them. So I trust that they're gonna leave me in the right direction. Yeah, that's super smart It's such a good tip When it comes to starting a business a lot of people watching this video a lot of guys I talked to him probably some of the guys you talked to Want to start a business, but are scared. What's some advice you would give to somebody who's thinking about starting whether it's a tattoo shop? Or just any business in general. How do you get over that? Just research research get in the industry get your foot in the door if you are wanting to Open up a dry cleaning business go work in a dry cleaning place learn the ins and outs That's the best thing to do. That's what I did. I learned the ins and outs. I I went to other shops I saw the way they manage their shops and I figured that opened up that told me what kind of shop I wanted to open up So basically get your foot in the door and just go at it be disciplined save your money do your taxes Because then it's all gonna come back to you, but yeah, but yeah, just you could just kind of you know I had to put off Vacations and stuff like that mostly I opened this journey like COVID time So we weren't doing nothing anyway. I was tattooing At a special location, but I was just like yeah, you know what? I'm not spending any money going out We have all this extra money mine. Well, let's just do it. Yeah, that's amazing. That's such good advice I was just thinking like how how important it is to just get in and try and learn as you go along I love to know like the the the thoughts you have for growth because you this space is pretty new I mean, you started during COVID. I know you had mentioned off-camera that this place you built pretty much yourself. Yes, this interior Area here and you're looking at building more when you think about growing how have you thought about it? Is it you want more boost space or you wish you could do more or what do you think the future is? So the future for me the the ideal future is because sometimes I always have this stuff in my head I got all this space I could run I was up one time I was thinking about doing a shirt press I print my own t-shirts and so I was thinking man Maybe I might get into doing a you know screen printing But that the thing really for me would be boost space to add on to this so I could have more boost space More revenue coming in. Yeah, and and what would that take to get you there? So basically?
You know, just money Money time and patience, you know, yeah And how much money do you think you'll need to get to the spot where you can grow man? I you know, I mean, it's kind of hard to say right now, especially with the way this market is The wood prices and stuff like that go up When I when I open when I started this I think like a two by four was going for like four dollars and then maybe Like so I ordered everything and then I went back to the store and it went to eight dollars And I was like wait a minute and I have a look at my receipts So yeah, just depending on how stuff is with the market and stuff like that But I'm thinking maybe you know, I'm thinking maybe like maybe around 60,000 just to get started But I know it's gonna be more than that. It's always more. Yeah This is a This is a tattoo machine This is a it's colder. It's a it's a bishop. It's a rotary machine So what a rotary machine is it has a spinning motor and what it does is it pushes? it pushes a little mechanism inside up and down and This is actually very close to the machines we had in prison So when I came out, I was like, oh man, this is just kind of like a like we would call him a spinner Spinner motor and so we got really popular here lately Before they used to use the ones that were coils and they would make a lot of noise. They'd be like and so these are more Like the new thing, but yeah, so this is considered a rotary and now we have a you know battery packs and now they're cordless So this is you know, this is what we use right here And it has like adjustment on the speeds and stuff like that machine has been on for and if you're charging by hour you know minutes or whatever you could actually do it from right here yeah pretty neat we use iPads now for our designs everything's digital you know rinse cups of course your inks we got a you know sanitation metaside green soap green soap is something that you mix with water you will put them in one of these and you you mix it around you clean the tattoo with it stuff like that and the
ointment razors needles let me show you what it so all these right here are disposable and this what this is what makes opening up a tattoo shop also it's a big deal because if you tell them that you use disposable you don't have to have a room to sterilize anything so you also you cut you cut it by being disposable everybody uses disposable now these days anyway so yeah where do you where do you buy all these supplies so there's a truck that comes by it's a supplying truck attached to supply truck they come by and they just they come by every Friday and they're much that it's a veteran-owned new company that they just started and they come by their mobile and so they know all the tattoo shots and they visit it's like that they only sell to licensed tattoo tattoo shots so so yeah so once they find out they'll come and you know they come once a week and how do you pay just by credit card right there or is it our terms now these days we could sell them money we could pay credit card we pay them cash and they pretty much they take everything out how do you do the stencil how do you do the drawings to to show them because they are they coming with something or did you or do you draw something up for it so so usually people come in with an idea and let's just say for instance they they want a flag right so I get the flag I could either find it online a digital flag that's already made or they just say that this guy doesn't he wants it a little more tattered than that I could get my iPad and you know make it a little more tattered right and then what I do is I print it out let me show you an example and they just say this is the tattoo right that we're gonna put on here these are pretty much the sizes that it's gonna print out so what we do is we put it through the substance a machine and let me show you like wow it's not working so you put it through the stencil machine right like this and then this right here will feed into that and then it will it will print out on this so that these lines will print out on this so once it prints out on this we'll take it out and then we'll put it on you with with a special oatment and you know after we clean the surface and and and you know cut the hair on there and stuff like that shape it super cool man if if there's one last
tip that you could tell a new entrepreneur who's thinking about starting a business what would it be Mario a tip do your research what else another tip would probably be you know just get a I guess you know just be a people person you know just know how people want to be treated I think that's always helped me out with other employers that I had yeah that's awesome (upbeat music) (upbeat music) [MUSIC PLAYING]
