Hope in a Hopeless Place
What happens when you have been hoping, praying, waiting, and believing for so long that your heart just feels tired?
Proverbs 13:12 says, “Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but when the desire comes, it is a tree of life.” Maybe you know that heartsick feeling. The court date got moved again. Parole did not go the way you prayed it would. Someone you love moved on. Your kids are growing up while you are away. Your release date feels impossibly far away, or maybe you do not even have one yet.
The Bible does not pretend those realities do not hurt. But biblical hope is not pretending the facts are different either. Hope is trusting that the facts are not the only thing that is true.
In this episode, Trevor talks through Proverbs 13, Hebrews 11, Romans 4, and the story of Abraham to unpack what real Christian hope looks like. It is not simply wishing something good will happen. It is the expectation that God will be faithful because He is who He says He is.
Your surroundings may feel hopeless. Your past may carry consequences. Your circumstances may not change today. But God still knows your name. He has not abandoned you. Your worst decision does not have to become the final definition of your life, and there is still purpose in today.
Do not give up hope. Keep trusting Him. Keep getting His Word inside of you. There is light even in places that feel incredibly dark, and that light is Jesus.
I'm gonna mid to you. I Almost I mean I'm not gonna say I've given up on them, but me getting to the letters and stuff. It's just It's incredibly difficult right now, but today I'm literally it is Just getting done with work. I just pulled up to pick up my son from football And I got this letter. I got to share with you. This is I'm not gonna say your full name I'm gonna say your name's Corey And you added Okay, now Corey where'd I put it? Oh, no, I thought I lost it Corey Wrote me this letter Let me clear my throat for this are you ready ladies and gents for this letter But it is what it ain't it's time to put another one and now living in a van down by the river No, we're not here in my eye What it is what it ain't ladies and gents are there a panda land what it is what it ain't I'm in a hurry today to put another one in that pando app bang baby. My name is Trevor Wherever you are watching from all over the d oc Across the United States of America from Alaska all the way to Maine all the way down here to Florida I'm sitting in Northeast Florida myself all the way to our Kansas, maybe up in Montana Down to Texas Actually got all my paperwork in This past week to be an official Texas volunteer, which should help Hopefully open some doors where I could come out to Texas a little bit more not more haven't done it at all So I guess anything after this would be more but yeah, that was I was glad to get that done It's in the approval pro. I don't know why I'm yelling why am I yelling because I'm just in a hurry That's why I feel like that but anyhow. Yeah, my name is Trevor I'm a part of a small church here in Northeast, Florida Who has a big heart to reach all of you wherever you were sitting whether you were in a prison Whether you're in a county jail whether you're in a work camp. Maybe you're in a face-based camp Maybe you're up there in North Kaka lackey
Wherever you are at maybe you're in Georgia down. They never went down to Georgia Look for our soul to steal Alright, what am I doing? I Don't know never have Anyhow, my name is Trevor. We're part of a small church here as a big heart in an incredible DLC family all over and hopefully you're part of that hopefully you Call champion your own that is my heart for sure. I just get to play a small part And what we do as a church to help everyone champion every season of their life So whatever that season might be whether you are facing a few more weeks a few more months Maybe you've got a couple more years or more than that. However, that might look Genuinely our hardest to serve you and to bring you into a deeper relationship with Jesus Obviously, I'm a Jesus guy I'm not ashamed to say that but to bring you into a deeper relationship with Jesus If you've never been here before or maybe this is the first episode you are watching. Here's kind of how we do it I ramble like this about random things Then I like to take a moment to kind of encourage you to kind of be in the moment so a lot of times we'll go on a ride on either a motorcycle or a jet ski or a plate or like a four-wheeler or an ATV whatever we went on horseback a couple episodes ago, but anyhow the point is it kind of gets you in The moment and then I'm going to teach to you and then after that So just jumping into other things we do do several videos called can you preach that? So if you have videos that you want to see let me know have somebody reach out to me get a hold of me somehow and say Hey, can you preach XYZ whatever might be? As I would show the other videos But after I teach I like to have a moment to kind of just Where you can kind of take it in I like to show scenery. I like to show maybe cities I like to show that kind of so I think last episode was like the state of Florida that kind of stuff And it's not just to see it But it's kind of just take it all in sometimes we can be in such a hurry from one thing to the next from one video to the next from one App to the next but to just kind of let God's word take root in our heart and then I do a couple different videos
However much we can get in for the timeframe of can you preach that essentially taking videos that you like and to see if I Can bring biblical truths out of them. Y'all have me almost dumped a few times in the in the last episode if you miss that one And then I tried to do something for the entrepreneurs out there, something for the entrepreneurs out there was thinking about the gentleman that was in Potosy that was, man, he really loved, I can't remember his name off the top of my head, but he really loved Second Chance University. And there's, for I think if you all had the securest system, I think that's on the podcast there called Second Chance University. Check that out as well, it can kind of help you. So when you get out that you can make a legitimate living that you can supply for your family and be a blessing to others as well. One of the things I'd like to say, I wanna make sure I say it, oh, two weeks. Well, I guess less than two weeks now when I'm recording this, coming to Marion CI right here in Florida, coming out to Marion CI Saturday, September 19th. I will be out there doing both chapel services. And from what I understand, I'm gonna be going over to the work camp to save us up to you all as well. And then a lot of times people say, hey, I'd love for you to come out and do a chapel service or whatever it might be. Here's how it has to happen. You need to have three things going on.
Number one, you need your chaplain to be on board. Then you need your administration, then you need your warden. If all three aren't on board, it's just not gonna happen, right? And that's just the reality of it. But if you know, I really feel like that could happen, reach out to me for sure. I already have people reaching out to me about the Global Leadership Summit, 2027. Already trying to get that on the books, but reach out to me. I will pay to come out there in my own expense. I'll just kind of work it around the schedule. Right now, if it works out, it looks like I'm gonna be going to Texas, either the end of November or early December, something like that. I've got to look at work schedule and that kind of stuff as well and days off and have certain things going on at work that I know I can't miss those weeks. But that's the way it looks like what's gonna happen. And obviously, depending on me getting approved in Texas, which I should not have an issue with that at all. But if you want me to do that, be great. But Mary and CI, I will be out there in just a few weeks, especially you all are just a couple hours to drive for me. So I'm gonna drive over that Saturday and then drive back that evening.
But one of the things I like to say is this, is maybe it's having somebody reach out to make that happen where I can come to your prison, detention center, whatever. Maybe it's just telling somebody back home. Like telling somebody, like, "Hey, man, reach out." Follow these people. I think about Jim Shave, yeah. I think about just a couple months ago, reaching out and just where we've been able to even my wife, Felicia, which is her birthday today when I'm filming this. That's actually why I'm in a hurry. But just reach out for his family to be praying for us and to be, how can they agree with us and help row? That's why we have these things to grab a door and to help row with us. Last week I had a gentleman. His family reached out and said, "Can you preach that?" And that's why we had the two different pit bull video on there or whatnot. But it happens because that's how we all row together. Chambi Church is like one big row boat. It's the best way I know how to put it. And when you tell somebody on your block, when you tell somebody on at wreck, when you tell somebody, maybe they just got moved into your housing unit and you let them know about it. Maybe you let somebody know at home. Maybe you say, "Hey, listen, our place would love "that we have people come in.
"We would love to have you come in, that kind of stuff." That is picking up the ore and rowing with us. I hear all the time, and I never get tired of hearing a Trevor or rowing with you. That's why when you see us trending up there on Pandora, it's not me, right? It's not Chambi Church, it's all of us together because all of us have picked up an ore and we're rowing, baby. We're rowing, we're rowing together. So today, today, we're continuing as we're talking about Hebrews chapter 11, right? Verse one, "Now faith is a substance of things hoped for "and the evidence of things not seen, and for by it, "the elders obtained a good testimony." There's a word in there I wanna talk to you about. I almost just put our weekly sermon in here, but I was like, "Man, I really wanna talk to our DOC family." My brother-in-law's texted me, what is he gonna say? He said, "Eclim, my boss, it works, I need to read this." Okay, everything's good. I was like, "I wanna record this just for you "because there's some things in my heart." I literally wrote some notes down. Today, he's sitting in traffic. That I wanna get into your heart is this one word that we're talking about. That I believe this. Let me say this, I've said this a couple of weeks now, and I'm gonna say it again in this episode, what I'm about to give you has the opportunity.
It has within it to completely alter who you are as a human. Now, some of you might have already experienced this, right? Some of you might already have this, and you've seen it change you. You've seen it shift things in your heart and your mind and your perspective, but today, what I wanna give you, why is my phone ringing? What I wanna give you is a life altering if you grab ahold of it. It could change everything if you grab ahold of it. You, well, I don't say this just flippantly, just some hype message. Now, listen to my little excited, I always am, but what I'm about to give you has the, Because I want to tell you, you're not the sum result of your worst decisions and your worst mistakes. You're not the sum result of that addiction that maybe you battle. You're not the sum result of problems of over and over and over and over again. Let me tell you what I'm about to give you today can shift everything. It probably most likely will not change where you're sitting. I could pretty much almost guarantee that. But what it will do is it will change who you are. Where people won't even be able to recognize you. My name is Trevor. I'm genuinely glad that you're watching this video of this random dude in northeast Florida that wants to help you champion every season of your life. Let's jump into the episode. He starts it off by saying evidence, evidence sense. Not sure if he's just a fan of the band. Don't really understand.
I mean, the word means like fading or something like that. So maybe he means that he says, I don't want to eat your flesh or drink your blood. You Christian. Bro, what? Dude, what? Man said, I don't want to eat your flesh or drink your blood. First of all, like dude, same. Thank you. Amen. You're Christian. You better make sure. Your God won't eat you. Make sure you're lukewarm. So he'll spit you out. All right. All right, Corey, few things here, buddy. First of all, thank you for writing me. Thank you for spending your money on a stamp. And again, I'm sorry the quality is bad, but I had as soon as I read this. I was like, I've got to record something. Thank you for taking the time to write me this very sound theological letter. Thank you for that. And also, it's lukewarm, not lukewarm. I don't want to be that guy. I'm just saying. And Jesus wasn't pushing cannibalism, brother. That's not what he was talking about. He was talking about consuming all that he is. Like, come on, man. Come on, Corey.
And then he said, oh, this is turn on the headlights on the good Lord. Then he said, oh, he's talking about Revelation three. He's talking like Jesus in Revelation three is talking about spiritual complacency. And so, I mean, buddy, God bless you. That's all I'm going to say. Thank you for writing me. I appreciate this. You gave me a great laugh, man. Maybe that's really cool. Maybe you're jokes, sir. Maybe you're jokes, sir. And he got me, big dog. You got me. Thank you for writing me. Appreciate your letter. God bless, man. [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music]

[Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] if you've been tracking with the show, I don't even have my prime here this week. That's how I literally, I was like, I don't think I'm a film just this week as today's, my wife's birthday, I'm recording this, my daughter's birthday's in what, three days? So it's kind of a busy week around the Hersey household or whatnot, but I just, man, I couldn't shake this that I wanted to personally teach this for y'all on the show for you to just give it to you because here's what the Bible says, Proverbs chapter 13, verse 12 says this, hope deferred makes the heart sick, but when a desire comes, it is a tree of life. Hope deferred makes the heart sick. I'd be willing to bet. Many of you watching this, you know that exact feeling of hope deferred. You know what it's like to have your heart sick. You know what it's like to, man, just feel like life has been drained out of you. Maybe by your own decisions or as someone else has done to you that you may be never even deserved or maybe it's just one of those,
it's just a cocktail of all of that mixed together, but Proverbs 13, 12, hope deferred makes the heart sick. I've started thinking, how could you relate to that maybe? Maybe you felt that when a court day gets moved. You've been looking forward to this court day, you've been looking forward to this court day, you've been looking forward to this and then it gets moved, it gets postponed, it gets set back and that's where you feel that hope deferred, that that makes your heart sick. I wrote this down. Maybe you were hoping your lawyer told you, everybody back home was praying for you and agreeing with you that parole would be granted, but instead it got denied. Maybe as you realize the time you're doing, that hope deferred makes the heart sick, that heart sick feeling is when your child is growing up and you realize by the time you go home, they're gonna be a grown person and you're missing out on those memories, those birthdays, those holidays. Maybe it's something where the person you love moves on. Maybe you thought they'd be with you forever, they said they'd stay with you forever, said they'd have you, but maybe the one you love so much, they decided it was time for them to move on. Maybe you watch people around you. Maybe that hope deferred makes your heart sick is where you watch people around you go home,
why you stay there or maybe you finally got into a work camp or a detention center or prison, you're like, okay, this is actually gonna help me as a man or a woman, as a lady or a gent. But what happens is you got moved out because of for whatever reason, maybe, there's a release date that is so far away or maybe just not even, you don't even have a release date. And so you feel like you live with hope deferred makes the heart sick. What I love is that the Bible validates that. Sometimes I'm guilty of like focusing on the second half of that verse, but when the desire comes, when the dream comes, when the promise comes, it is a tree of life. Now, listen, let me just say this about this right now. Here's what I love. God doesn't answer selfish prayers. Let me just say that. Let me just, I'm not trying to be negative. I'm not trying to be like anything like that, but here's what I know. God answers prayers that fall into two categories. Are you ready? Number one, that are His will and the number two is that He will get the glory from it, okay? Meaning this, it's not just going to serve you, all right? So when God ends, now some people are like, well, that's not, I've heard people say this, well, that's not fair.
I don't know why they talk like this. That's not fair. Listen, first of all, since when is life fair? And oftentimes, I'm just gonna speak for me. Oftentimes, what I want is fair is actually selfish to me. Can you, like, come on, come on, man, come on. Can you relate? Can you be honest? Sometimes I'm like, well, this is fair. Yeah, but it only benefits me. Like for somebody else of mine, I benefit them. But for me, it's like, well, yeah, that benefits me. That doesn't necessarily mean that that's God's will. God's will is perfect. God's will is sovereign, meaning He knows what He is doing even sometimes when we feel like, like Lord, I'd love you to do this, this, or this, whatever it might be. The point that I'm trying to make is this, is that it says when the desire comes, when the dream comes, it is a tree of life. Now, think about this, what is a tree? A tree has deep roots, and biblically, a tree would have abundant fruit. Are you tracking with me? So I like to say like this, you know, That hope deferred makes a heart sick, but when the desire comes, when the dream comes, when the promises fulfilled, when the prayer is answered, because God does answer prayer.
He does answer prayer. Let me tell you this, I know I'm all over the place. I'm probably less prepared than I've ever been, but I just, I've really felt, get in here and record, Trevor. That's what I felt like the Lord said, "Get your rooted poo behind in there." Let me make sure it's recorded. And record. Here's what I've learned. God always answers prayer in three ways. Okay, number one, yes. You ask for something, you pray for something. The answer is yes. Second one is this, it's not right now. Okay? And then the third one is this. Are you ready? This is everybody's favorite. This is everyone's favorite. No. (chuckles) When God says no, you're like, oh. But yes, Lord. Like we're like, this would be great. This would be great. God always answers prayer, but it's gonna be a yes, not right now or no. And this is where faith comes in that we've been talking about.
This is where trust comes in, where we trust the person of Jesus that he knows best, that he holds the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end, that is who he is. He holds it all in his hands, and he knows what's best for you and I. And the faith is when we trust him, when we can't even see it, yeah. That's a hard part. Now up here, sitting here with this big forehead, trying to tell you, I get it. Or it's easy. No, no, no, no. There's things I pray for that God says no, we're not right now. Man that I'm like, that really isn't great for me. But here's what I've learned. When we're asking God for something, when we have hope in God for something, he's gotta fall in these two categories. Is it his will and will he get the glory? When the desire comes, it is a tree of life. You're tracking with me? What do trees have? If you take it notes, write this down. Roots and fruit. For some of y'all that are incredible artists, you need to draw something like this, have a big gorgeous tree with gorgeous deep roots.
Now, what are the roots in the tree? The roots, watch this, is rooted in God's will. So the tree of life has deep roots in God's will. But it also, the tree of life would mean it has abundant fruit. Now why does this matter? Because fruit is for other people, including yourself, to taste and see that the Lord is good. Several months ago in those episodes, we talked about fruit. You have to go back and find them. We talked about the fruit, where Jesus says you will know them by their fruit. That a good person has good fruit. And the evil person has evil fruit. Now here's what I love, is that God can truly change your heart. Or maybe all you ever did was produce evil in your life. And maybe you've got a track record that shows that, but I just wanna tell you, I'm here today to stare into that lens, wherever you're sitting, whether you're sitting in ad-seg, whether you're sitting in county, whether you're sitting in a work camp, and you've got a day to come home, I want to tell you this. God can change your heart like no one can, and he can take you from evil fruit to good fruit. The question is, will you allow him to sit on the throne of your life?
That's what it comes down to. We all have a throne, will you allow him to sit on the throne of your life? And when you do, that tree of life that comes, Proverbs 13, it has deep roots in God's will. If you're like, well, what's God's will? God's will is always his word. It has deep roots in God's will. His will is what he wants to see come to pass in the earth, that no one would perish, but that everyone would turn their hearts to him, because that's who we are created to be. So it's got deep roots in God's will, but it also has abundant fruit for people in taste and see that the Lord is good. So if you're wondering, Lord, am I praying something that is your will? Is it, is it something that he has set in place? And is it something where only he gets the glory? That's why you hear when we talk about that entrepreneur spot that I'm trying, I'm not saying this in every episode, but I'm trying to put in the episodes. And I say, listen, you want to be able to provide for your family, that's God's will, but you also want to be able to bless other people where they can taste and see that the Lord is good. Here's what I've learned. When you bless other people,
you're literally getting to be a part of answering someone else's prayer. Think about that. When you grab an ore and you row with this here at Champion, you're literally helping other people have their prayers answered. That's the magnitude of what we're doing. That's why it says when the desire comes, it's a tree of life, has deep fruit or deep roots and abundant fruit, but hope deferred makes the heart sick. Now, I have to think about this. If it makes the heart sick, what could hope awaken, don't do, don't do, don't do? If hope deferred makes the heart sick, what does hope awaken? If hope deferred drains life out of you, him a Buffalo Bills fan. I hope the Buffalo Bills are good. Some of Florida State fans too. God help me, but that's how it takes us long, Warren. I hope the long corns we need or do for another national championship. I hope we do well. I hope fall comes soon outside, right? I hope that's not, that's not biblical hope. See, I know I'm jumping around a lot, but track with me. Hebrews 11, one says, "Now faith, faith is simply trust. I trust that God is who he says he is and that he will do what he said he's going to do. Now faith, now trust is the substance. Substance means foundation. So my trusting God is the foundation for what I hope for. Now faith is the substance of things hoped for. So trust is the foundation of things I'm hoping for. Here's how I wrote down. Christian hope is not that something good will happen. Christian hope is in someone that what they have said is true, meaning Jesus. It's not just something good will happen like I do believe that, but hope is the expectation that God is going to do what he said he's going to do because he is who he says he is. So use the good fruit and evil fruit. If you're like, Lord, I want my heart to change all I've done or all seems I've done or I can look at what I've done is produce
evil or maybe you just had some moments where it was evil fruit out of your life. And you hear me say, listen, God can change your heart. He can give you a new heart. Second Corinthians chapter five, everyone who is in Christ is a new creation. You hear that and the hope is not well, I hope that could happen to someone like me. I hope God could break this addiction that I have even sitting behind these walls. I hope that God can maybe help me get back on my feet. I hope that God's going to bring somebody in my family or someone into my life that loves me. No, it's not just those things are all okay, but it's the expectation of the one who gave you the hope. I don't know if I'm saying that right. Hope is the expectation that God is going to do what he said he's going to do because he is who he says he is. That is true biblical hope. Hope says this. I know what the facts are. I just refuse to believe that the facts are the only thing that is true. There is another reality. Abraham a Romans chapter four says Abraham hoped in the face of no hope. He hoped is his Romans chapter four. Go read Romans chapter four versus 17 through 21. It is like the anatomy if you will of true biblical hope. Abraham does not deny the facts of what's going on when he was given the promise by God, but he didn't let the facts overtake the truth of what God said. And that's why I'm just trying to just get into your heart. Can you trust God? Can you have some hope that's maybe been deferred in your heart sick? Can you let hope come alive now? If hope deferred makes a heart sick, hope realized will literally put life back into your heart. That's why I said when I started this off, if you could grab ahold of this, this will change your life, man. It will change everything. I've been very open in the show of my own struggles of my own mental struggles, my own depression struggles like this. Let me tell you something. When my depression is yelling the loudest, it's because my hope is at the lowest. And for me, I've got to go back and I've got to get some biblical hope. Well, we've learned this a couple of weeks ago, Romans chapter 10 verse 17 tells you how to trust and how to have hope. So then faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God. You've got to get, I don't know where my Bible is, but you've got to get God's word into you. And when you do, when you do, man, you begin to trust again. And when you begin to trust again, there's hope. You're like, yeah, okay, I've got 75 years, but you know what I trust that God is still with me in here. I wrote a few things down. I trust that God still knows my name. See, that's the thing. Hope doesn't
ignore the facts of where you're sitting, but it brings a new truth into where you're sitting. And that's what I want you to get. That God is still where you're at. He doesn't stop at the bars, man. He doesn't mean it like the bars outside or the other bars. You know what I mean? That God knows my name. That God has not abandoned me. See, this is the truth of God's word. That my worst decision does not get to be the final definition of my life. That there is something God can still do in and through my life. There are people I can still show love to. There is purpose in today. And that's why I just want to get you. I don't come doing a good job with it. But that's just what I want to get into your heart. So I just want to, I might put the actual teaching in here. Encourage a man, hope, man. Trust him. Trust in him. And watch what God will do. Watch what God will do. Ah, man, I hope. No pun intended. This is connecting. And I don't know. If I have room, I'll put some of the meat of the sermon where I teach on this a little bit more clearly. Maybe at the end of this, I don't know, but I realize you're sitting in some of the most hopeless situations, walls, places. I'm not denying that, but I want to tell you, is the God of all hope that Jesus is our living hope and that he can reach you right there. The question is, will you trust him to do it? Hope defer does make the heart sick, but when the desire comes, it is a tree of life. I want to say this. If you've never given your life to Christ, man, I'm biased, but you should. You shouldn't. He can do what no other religion can because he is unlike any other religion. I like to say like this, I don't care how cheesy cliche it is that it's not a religion to me. It's a relationship with the one who created me, the one who made me. Do I have issues? God. Am I perfect? No. Do I have regrets? Absolutely. But people out there like no regrets. No, I got them, but I know this. I have a savior who is my king that sits on the throne of my life, that I believe that he is who he says he is and that he did what he said he was going to do, that he left heaven and came to earth because he didn't want heaven without us as the song says, that he didn't want to do eternity without us. He paid the ultimate price for us on the cross at Calvary. He died a sinner's death that all of us deserved. He rose again three days later, defeated death hell in the grave and darkness and everything in there and then offers us a lifeline of true life, no matter your socioeconomics, no matter your
family of origin, no, no matter your race, no matter your past. He says, will you accept my way, my truth in my life? I love how Pando does it. They make it the easiest way to do it is clicking the salvation button below. And then from there, you actually tell your story. I read all of those. I read all of them. So thank you. Thank you. Thank you. When you write in something in that kind of telling the story and what you that step you're taking with God, that kind of stuff, and when you all give me personal shout outs in there, yes, it is awesome. But I just want to tell you, man, I want to encourage you. I want to encourage you. The fact might be you're in a really hopeless situation. The truth is some random dude in Northeast Florida got all riled up because he wants you to realize don't give up hope. God is there. He knows your name. He's not abandoning you. He's right there. I mean, why else would you be able to see this random video, man? There's thousands of videos on this app and you're watching this one. I hope today encourages you. All right, I know y'all love it, I'm just being funny, but you made me think like, okay, how can I preach this again since we've done so many of them? Here's what I'm thinking, is they're all custom built? Like that's the point, is they're custom built? There might be similarities and maybe it might be the same model or the same year or the same kind of grouping, but they're all custom built. Now think about us, man, we're all custom built. Like we believe as Christians that God is our creator, that he formed us, yes, in his image, but he created us with unique things that all of us are different. I mean, our own DNA and science will show that, that we all have differences. Are there similarities, yes, but there are differences. So don't, this is what I'm thinking about. Don't throw away your differences, man. Don't get upset about your differences. Don't get jealous of somebody else's differences. Don't get jealous. We just did the, people are awesome, they will. I don't have that talent or I don't have that gifting or I don't have that type of personality
or I don't have those type of smarts or whatever. That's your boy, I do not. But no, no, no, no. You're custom built. God made you, created you. Is that a snake on the ground? No, there's not, woo, woo, woo, woo. Your boy was about to go into a mode. I was like, oh, Jesus. Sorry, maybe, anyhow, God created you. He made you in a certain way. You are custom built, custom framed for right now. This time, even sit behind bars, I get it. Even you, yeah, but I've screwed up. That doesn't remove what he has placed in you. Just like all these cars are custom done. It doesn't remove, even if they went through a wreck, even if they went through something, it doesn't remove what had been done in them. And that's what I love, man, about God, is he has created you a certain way with deep roots in his will, like we talked about, with abundant fruit for people to taste and see that he is good for we are created as God's workmanship. His masterpiece of Ephesians chapter two, verse 10 says, why? So we could do the great works that he's prepared for us long ago. He's prepared for us to do great works long ago before all your shame, before your shortcomings,
before everything. And man, that doesn't go away. All right, so I'm trying. I'm trying with the car show people. I'm giving it my best that you're custom built. Don't be jealous of what somebody else has. And just embrace what God has put in you. And in the same way we did with the question of, can you preset with the, people are awesome. God, what have you placed in me? What's the gifting you placed in me that when the desire comes, it's a tree of life deeply rooted in his will with abundant fruit for people to taste and see he's good. Can you preach that? All right, last part of the episode this week, can you preach that? In one of the segments earlier, you saw me jump 'cause I thought I saw a snake 'cause I hate 'em. God, do I hate 'em? My buddy at work said, have you seen this one guy who does this snake hunting, but not like, how I wanna go python hunting and everybody's like, he just goes out and sees 'em, so we watch some of these, and he challenged me, can I preach that? And so here's what I would think. Sometimes, like I hate snakes. God, do I, oh my goodness, do I hate 'em? See, I just thought some was on me. Some people love them. Some people love them, not me, not me, not your boy, not your boy, a trail of no ma'am, no sir, no, ladies and gents, I don't. There's a part of this fearful level for sure. But here's what I was saying. OK, can I preach that without going to without going to Genesis? Here's my second. Sometimes what can stir fear you in you. Let me see how I want to say this can also be incredibly beautiful. These things are, man, I hate them at the same time. They are beautiful. There are things about them that are gorgeous. And I think sometimes even in things that we're afraid of, maybe we're afraid of being sober, maybe we are afraid of letting that person go. Maybe we're afraid of taking that step with Jesus. Maybe we're afraid of it, but there's actually something incredibly beautiful in
it if we just get close enough to look. So they go, can I preach that? I'm gonna say my way to say hate snakes. I hate them. That's what I mean, literally, I used to have a crush on Britney Spears until she held that snake in that video. She's over there like, I'm a slave. Hey, I'm like, no, you are not. No, you are not, Brittany. No ma'am. Absolutely not. A day to the girl wants to say, oh, you want to see my, you want to, you want to see the snake on my first one. Don't ever say that to me ever in your life. Don't ever say those words to me. You want to, I'm an idiot. I don't know if I'm going to get that in. Hey, God bless you guys. I love you. It's late Wednesday night. Well, it's like 630 Wednesday night working late with all the birthdays in the household this week. So I love all of you. I hope this helps you. God bless you. Keep rolling with this baby, what it is, what it ain't. We're going to finish it with some snakes in that bank, baby. Good afternoon. Everybody and welcome back to Georgia. It's mid August at this point and kind of the peak of the heat that we experience
here in Georgia. And it's been a particularly hot and wet August. So a kind of interesting combination of conditions. Hot and wet is okay. Hot and dry is really bad. So I'm hoping that tonight we'll be able to find a few snakes. And the main thing we're going to be searching for is big male timberattle snakes. And I say big male specifically because this is the time of year when the big males are out looking for ladies. And this is the time of year. You're most likely to encounter a large adult timberattle snake crossing the road, which is a really exhilarating site. It's in the mid nineties today like it has been the last few days. I'm going to be cruising around a section of fields, ridges and valleys here in the Georgia Piedmont where timberattle snakes are at least fairly common. And it's actually been a few years since I've seen one here. So we're going to be driving around this beautiful kind of semi agricultural, semi natural habitat. You can see there's a little bit of long leaf and some upland oaks growing here. So potential habitat for things that are much rare and harder to find than timbers, but very, very good timber habitat. So I'm going to start doing passes and as it kind of starts to cool off, I expect we'll see something of interest on the road. Hopefully it'll be before dark. Well, that was easy. I just ran my intro. I had, I had no expectations of this going quite that well. Let's get a look at this guy. Looks like a little bit of a dog.
He's kind of dark, maybe muddy too. Man, he is fantastic. Look at that head up. Very, very aware of his surroundings. I'm definitely going to guess that this is exactly what I was expecting to see. A relatively young, but large adult male timberattle snake out looking for a lady on this hot summer afternoon. All right. This guy has definitely become aware of my presence. Just let out a big his look at that snake though. He is magnificent, definitely kind of dark, but in a pretty way. Very cool and muddy too. I don't know why he's so covered in mud. I guess from all the recent rain. That is fantastic. Let's see if we can get a look at his rattle here. No rattling yet, just a little bit of a hiss. You can see he's still got his terminal button. What a beautiful and gentle beast. No real effort at rattling or striking yet, just chilling. Let out a little bit of a hiss, but that's been it. What a fantastic animal. First timber and first snake back from West Texas for the summer. You going to come say hello? Are you just turning around? I would rather you not come say hello as much as I appreciate you from a distance. Yeah, he's just turning around. So, so fantastic. What a gentle calm beast to every bit of forefoot, maybe a little bit more. And that is just majestic.
As much as I love all the western rattlesnake diversity, this is by far my favorite rattlesnake here in the US. They're just so cool, so regal, and so big. I mean, I didn't see a single rattlesnake out west on my trip that was as big as this timber. And this is an average adult, a little bit on the large side maybe. All right, I'm going to intervene here a little bit, which I'm sure he's not going to be stoked about, but he needs to be going off the road rather than up the road. Hey buddy, you can see the people who own this property take good care of it. This is private land that is fire-maintained. Go the other way, dude. This guy is just so chill. Not really seeming to be threatened by me much at all. What an animal, so, so beautiful. And so composed. I mean, he's definitely aware I'm here and definitely ready to switch modes if I get too close, but very, very relaxing presence from this guy. So, so pretty too. Very dark, really, really dark for this part of the Piedmont. Typically I find snakes that are particularly light in this population, and this guy is particularly dark. Very interesting. All right. This is getting ridiculous. Next, pass down the same road, and there's another one. I thought it was the same one for a second, but I'm actually way further down the road. Let's go get a look at him. And this one is an absolute stunner, even bigger than the last one, but you can see his rattles broken off. Holy crap.
I guess I'm just going to go back and forth on this road. That is insane. The chevron just looks so good. What a fantastic animal. Very, very pretty in the face too. Look at that. Also seems very calm so far. He could spring into action any second, but for now he's really chill. All right. This snake has also been incredibly patient with me as I got some photos. He seems much more, can't get traction on this pine straw. He seems much more ready to go than the last one was, so we're going to let him do just that. What a stunner, into the thicket. You know what's crazy is this road we're actually on right now is not one I've ever even found one on. I found them on a lot of the roads around here, but this road where we found too today I've always kind of thought was one of the better looking roads around here, but it had never produced a timber until today. All right, y'all. Well, the sun is getting low in the sky. We've had a great timber afternoon here. I think what I'm going to do now is head less than 15 miles to a different road where there are no timbers, but there is a good population of pygmy ravel snakes, so we're going to try to get timbers and pygmies in the same day, which is not a crazy difficult achievement, but here at least I don't know of anywhere within an hour's drive where you can get both of them at the same spot. I'm sure somewhere like that exists. I just haven't found it yet. And truthfully, there should be pygmies here where we've been all afternoon.
I just haven't seen them. They're a much more difficult snake to find under most circumstances. But yeah, I think I'm going to do one more pass here and then we're going to head over to the pygmies' roads and see what we can find after darts. All right, pretty much immediately after getting to the area, we're going to be night cruising. We have a copperhead, second species of the day, and our first non-timber, and this guy is particularly jumpy, probably because of how hot it is out here. As you guys know, these guys can be pretty irritable, way more irritable than timbers, so I'm just going to get him out of the road and we'll continue on and hope for that pygmies. Very nice. All right, not too far past the last copperhead. We have another one. Almost looks like he's got a food bolus in him. It might have just been sitting weird, though, where it could even be a deformity, really. It kind of looks like he's got a deformity. It's not crawling normally. You can see that somewhere around mid-body right there, there's what looks like. It could have even been an injury that healed weird. Really interesting, definitely not completely normal, though. You can see the back end of the tail, there's kind of bumpy as well. All right, pretty quickly. Here's another one. That's Viper #5 for the day and Copperhead #3. Hopefully, the pygmies will come out soon, but I'm just happy to be night cruising snakes. This is a pretty slow region for cruising, so seeing this many snakes already before it's even really completely dark, still a little bit of glow on the horizon, is a pretty good indicator that snakes are moving like crazy. Alright guys, well our last copperhead was before 9, just before 9. And it is currently 10.04 so we've gone over an hour without a snake during the hour after dark, which typically, for nocturnal movement, is the most active time of the night, at least
here in Georgia. So very very weird cut off today, very abrupt, I'm definitely going to drive around a little bit longer and see if there's anything else out. But it feels like a very strange and abrupt end to the night. But it was a very good day overall, really really cool to get to see a couple of timbers today, that was our main goal and we accomplished it pretty easily. And I think I'm probably going to try this again tomorrow since it works so well today. We'll see. Alright, every body tonight, we are night cruising in southern Tennessee, close to the Georgia border. It's a really interesting habitat that I've been eyeballing for a while and it's not really the best conditions, but it did rain a little bit today and I'm pretty confident there will at least be something out. So just got dark, we're going to do a couple passes and hopefully the snakes will come out. We'll see. Alright, well the first snake of the night was a garter snake that got off the road. But here we have a beautiful Easter milk snake, a nice chocolate milk, if you will. Very very cool first snake of the night, at least the first we've gotten a good look at. Alright, well that is a solid quality snake on the night if we end up having a slow night otherwise. Always happy to see a milk snake and this one is in a new county from the intensity. Yeah, I've seen very few eastern milk snakes in Tennessee, so seeing any new places is always exciting, this guy is a pretty standard issue, kind of chocolate and milk look very similar to some of the ones we find in North Georgia, but I've really not cruised too many milk snakes over the years, so it's nice to get one any time in any method and particularly road cruising. Not a bad looking snake at all, we'll just let him keep scooting, I'll give you a little bit of size reference here so you can see how big he is, but very very pretty chocolate
phase eastern milk snake to start the night. Alright, second snake of the night. Look, this is a gravid copperhead dude, why are you crossing the road with babies? She's about to pop, look at that, super strange, I mean she should be giving birth any day now, it's mid-August, that is super odd, pretty snake though, she's got to really, I might just be because she's distended from being gravid, but her tail end is much more faded than her like her head's very crisp. And that back end is very very faded, that's looking snake though, third snake of the night and only the second one we've gotten video of, hey we got a smooth earth, look at this little guy, very very common little guy's not too surprising to see a decent amount of fossorial activity after all the rain in the last few weeks, looks like it actually rained here a little bit earlier today, which could explain the milk. Alright, continued fossorial action, a brown snake, kind of surprised it took that long to get one tonight, very very common, even more common than the other snakes we've seen, we'll get them out of the road. Alright, that's probably going to be our last snake of the night, fossorial again, a nice little worm snake that was just flopping around in the middle of the road, actually a fairly large worm snake too. It's been a decent night, one milk snake, and an assortment of fossorials and a strangely gravid copperhead crossing the road. They're so iridescent, it's literally like a sunbeam snake, a mini sunbeam snake, that's another member of the If It Got 4 Feet Long Club, it would be one of the coolest snakes in the US.
