harder to actually very hard to do so anyhow that kind of stuff man everybody makes a difference everybody rose maybe you need to tell someone at home hey go check this church out man we're on youtube we don't put these shows necessarily on youtube um because of uh you know like the music and i'm a little wild um not today i feel kind of i feel like rushed today i do i feel like rushed today because a lot of stuff happening um with work and then we have stuff going on at the new church building that we're going to be moving to in a couple months and i just feel kind of like anxious in my heart a little bit i'm gonna talk more about that in a minute because i like to be as honest as i can like i don't know how everybody else is for me like what you're gonna get from me is vulnerability whether it's good bad or indifferent like i'm gonna be honest i'm gonna lay it out there um just to show you like i'm a very real human the way y'all responded to the bonus episode i had no idea no idea y'all would like that as much as y'all did um it was the most completions we've had on the episode in like two months um it is just wild wild wild stuff um thank you i said i should have a counter of how many times i've said um in this but uh yeah i think that's it that's it all right we're starting something new um i said i'm again son of a mother i thought we were going to talk about anger and being agitated and and being annoyed because that is something i have been feeling so much this week just agitated just being pissed off like just little triggers set me off um it's not because i'm not sleeping that kind of stuff it's just man life is always life and life is always life and so i thought like i was even praying like lord is this something you want me to teach because a lot of times what i'm teaching you guys have seen this in past episodes i'm just teaching what i've walked through or what i am walking through you know that kind of stuff and man i got pissed off so many times this week and then the just aggravated like just aggravated and agitated um i was annoyed with so many different things it just wasn't a good like i knew in that moment like man this is not god honoring and i don't know if y'all can relate to that and i was like this is not god honoring this is not his best for me and there are some moments where i just had to stop and pause and ask for forgiveness from people like oh my gosh does that suck when you have to do that but jesus made it very clear if you want to be forgiven you got to forgive other people and so and i needed to go get For people and say hey, listen, I'm sorry. Like I messed up. I screwed up. I was in the wrong I shouldn't have snapped. I shouldn't have been like that. I shouldn't made that comment I shouldn't have said those those words, you know like that kind of stuff and but as I was going through this
God brought me to mark chapter 10 and that's where we're gonna go today is mark chapter 10 It's where we're gonna go to a story about a man named Bartimaeus. Oh, and they would call him blind Bartimaeus, all right go to mark 10 if you want before we're gonna do a little little video down We come back and teach if you want to pause it at the bottom of the pando app is like a little Bible icon You could hit it if you want to go to mark 10 start in verse 46 and you'll be able to read through verse 52 just so you have an idea if not, we'll read it together and We'll be right back after this Oh All right All right got my notes here got my bi BLE that's the book for me You got that strawberry and cream prime whoo on my lips on them talkers All right, man, blind Bartimaeus is a story. Let's read it Let's read it. Then he reached Jericho what man my microphones been high that whole time, huh? Then he reached Jericho and as Jesus and his disciples Left town a large crowd followed him a blind beggar named Bartimaeus son of Timaeus was Sitting beside the road when Bartimaeus heard that Jesus of Nazareth was nearby He began to shout Jesus son of David have mercy on me be quiet. Many people yelled to him at him but he only Shouted louder son of David have mercy on me and when Jesus heard him He stopped and said tell him to come here. So they called the blind man. Cheer up. They said come on He's calling you isn't that just like people some people try to put you down and then as soon as they realize like God's doing in something in Your life then all of a sudden they want to be like, oh, come on. Oh, man, that's awesome. Oh, man. Praise God I knew he would I'm like, how about you have a nice warm glass of Shutty See, I'm still dealing with the annoyance. That wasn't nice to me. Sorry Jesus Cheer up. They said come on. He's calling you Bartimaeus threw aside his coat Jumped up and came to Jesus notice that that's important. We're not gonna talk about in this but just for them Bible nerds out there just like me and if you want to

Subscribe hit that subscribe button here But anyhow, he says he threw aside his coat now a coat in that day was identity and what he did is he left that identity as a beggar and Left that identity as someone on the side of the road left that identity of somebody not moving Think about this when you see roads in Scripture I don't want to make a blanket statement at all of them But when you see roads in Scripture Oftentimes what that is pointing to is the journey of life and he literally tosses aside his past identity of that's who I was But when I'm pursuing Jesus, man I am a totally new person like the faith that this would have took to say this like I am NOT that anymore I am I'm one who walks and pursues and hears the voice of Jesus calling him and I'm moving toward that. I love that That's for free We're not gonna get to that anymore in the in the teaching. Oh, what do you want me to do for you? Jesus asked verse 51 what What's his name? blind Bartimaeus, which first of all Frustrates me because we are literally labeling him by his issues none of us want to be labeled by our issues not a single one of us want to be labeled by our issues or our Problems or screw-ups or whatever mistakes put whatever you want to put in there But here's the thing that sometimes we do in human nature is we label somebody by what? Their issue is what their problem is what is off on them Even if it's self-inflicted or something like this Bartimaeus didn't choose being blind It was just happened to him be careful of putting labels on people. I love nicknames. Y'all know I'm all about it I love hearing y'all's nicknames when we do shout outs. I'm not talking about that What I'm talking about is when labels get put on people that man Listen, it might even have some truth to it But look what you can't just speak these things like God didn't give him the name blind Bartimaeus People did just be careful with that in your own life of putting things on people and be careful of receiving names of that
People have put on you. All right, but then Jesus we know he's blind Jesus says what do you want me to do? Jesus he's blind. What do you mean? What do you what did he's not gonna ask you to heal his knee. Like, what do you mean? What do you want me to do? He's not gonna be like hey, listen Could you just give me a little holy water a little blessing, you know, I'm saying like he's not like what do you mean? What do you want me to do? Like Jesus? He wants you to make him see da like I read this. I'm like Da Jesus he wants you to make him see but there's something more in that we're gonna come to a minute Let's just finish the story. My rabbi the blind man said I want to see and Jesus said to him go for your faith has Healed you instantly the man could see and he followed Jesus down The road I love that his faith made him whole his faith has healed you now there is something that all of us here All the time maybe not all the time, but it happens in church But we're told that Jesus is the answer maybe you've heard this and I believe with everything in me that he is the answer I've seen him meet people in addiction and grief and broken relationships and moments where nothing else worked and no one else could reach him I've watched him bring peace into chaos in ways that don't even make logical sense And I'm saying all that to say I do really believe Jesus is the answer But if we're honest, even while we're saying that we we still have questions like real ones the kind that don't sound polished or spiritual questions about why things happen the way they did questions about whether Change can actually happen right questions about whether God still sees us in the middle of where we are living right now Or does he see something in us? That is so much greater than what we are seeing right now In the middle of where we are living right now, or does he see something in us? That is so much grander than just a number. It's the thing. I was talking to somebody the other day I was telling them about what we're able to do through this app And through this connection and how we have, you know 130,000 right now of you that are Discipling with us that have subscribed to us and say hey, I want to see what you're doing and learn from you grow with you all that kind of stuff Now it's telling about all of this and they said, you know Trev the very fact that you call them by name And you see them as people and you don't just see them as a number because the whole thing I was like, listen
It's awesome We have all these people that are discipling but every single person that is that is subscribed to us Discipling with us you all have a name You all have a story and when I said that the person says yeah, cuz all they hear is their number All they hear is their number that's all they know it man that just stuck with me so much that you are more than Just a number You are a human You are a child of God if you have received Jesus as your Lord and Savior You are a child of God if you've never done that obviously I'm a Christian So I would encourage you to do this the best decision you could ever make It's the best thing you could ever do and Pando makes it so easy Where you just click the button and walk you through what it is what it means It's not just a flippant like okay. I'll just do it. No. No. No, this is a serious deal and And to Jesus when you do that, you are a child of God now You've received the work that he did on the cross for us. And so we can be saved and free and forgiven. All right now again Jesus I believe is the answer to all the questions of the heart. I Believe we have questions for God and we're allowed to ask them. I don't think there's anything wrong with that But what is interesting to me? And I do want to say this Is that while we are carrying all of these? questions for God, Jesus has questions for us too. And not the kind that make you feel small or exposed or in a harsh way, but the kind that reach into places, man, that maybe we have avoided for a while. The kind of questions that slow everything down and make you actually think about your life instead of just reacting to it. Right? Verse 10 is where we come into this and we see today of a question of Jesus is this, what do you want me to do for you? This story of blind Bartimaeus has so much depth and what is it?
Verse 46 through 52. So that's what seven verses total. I think is what that is. I mean, it's incredible how much is in it. Now I brought seven things out of these. It's seven verses, right? 46, 47, 48, 49, 50, 51, 52, praise God. I can math. Thank you. Gee, that would have been embarrassing. That would have been, I got to the end of that number and I would have been wrong because I thought, all right, seven verses, I want to bring seven things out of them. Again, in Mark chapter 10, 46 through 52, the first thing is this, you can still call out to God from where you are. Bartimaeus does not wait for the right moment. He does not clean himself up. He does not think through, okay, what's the perfect words to say here? He just calls out to Jesus and that's the key I want us to make like there is something really grounding about that because a lot of us carry this subtle belief that we will deal with God later, right? Like when things are better or when I have more clarity or when I feel more worthy, like that's one of my biggest ones. Like then I'll kind of come to God. But Bartimaeus calls from the side of a road, not a place of improvement. He calls from exactly where he is and I think that's the first point I want us to get is that this matters, that where he was is where he called out. He didn't do anything but just call out to him and God has never been intimidated by a location. He is not limited by where you are physically and he is not waiting for you to become a better version of yourself before he listens to you.
If anything, the starting place of real connection with Jesus is honesty about where you actually are, not where you wish you were. Not well, I wish I was in this moment. I wish I was here. I wish I was doing all that. No, no, no. It starts with just being honest of this is where I am. Listen, you are watching this on Pando and you are incarcerated. No one's shocked by that. No one's like son of a mother. I'm incarcerated. You know what I'm saying? Like no one is saying that. You know where you're at. And some of you again, like okay, when I get my crap together, when I stop using, when I stop freaking messing around with the K2, when I stop with the lustful stuff, when I stop with the, you know, trying to hustle and grind and screw people over and be manipulative and everything else. Listen, when I stop with the lying, when I stop with mistreating that person and holding the grudge, like then I'm going to do it. No, no, no. Listen, right there where you are. Don't be like, well, once I get out there, no, right where you are, right where you are, call out to him, talk to him because he's wanting you to, he's close to you and you might not even realize it, man. And the second thing is this. You don't have to perform. You just need to be real. You don't have to perform. You just need to be real.
Bartimaeus does not pray a polished, perfect prayer. He says, have mercy on me. That's it. Like no religious. That sounds religious to us, but not really. It's not a long explanation. He's just being honest. And that means when you slow down long enough to feel it, God is not drawn to perfection. He is drawn to honesty. He moves towards people who are real about their need, real about their season, real about their situation. Some of the most powerful prayers, I believe this I have heard did not sound impressive at all. They sounded like someone maybe is just saying this, like, God, I'm tired, God, I've screwed this up. I mess this up or God, I don't know what I'm doing anymore. God, give me the next right thing to do. Like those are just honest, real prayers. And like I told you just a minute ago, I did not have a good week mentally, not, not in the way of like depression and stuff. I've been very open with that again. I've just been irritable. I've just been aggravated. I've been finding myself snapping into anger. And I had to pray one of these honest prayers this morning. I knew I would get in here at some point today during the workday to film this. And I knew what the second point was of just being real with him and not like not performing, but just being real and honest. And I had this, this point about two 50 this morning, I'm coming downstairs, I'm grabbing my laptop.
I'm going to work just a little bit to prepare this and get ready. And I'm like, It's bothering me because of how I acted yesterday. Just specifically yesterday. It was bothering me of how I handled a situation and how I acted and how I let my words come across very harsh and very sharp. And I was like, I was frustrated with myself. There was a part of me, I'm just gonna be vulnerable, whatever, there was a part of me that I was justifying and defending myself. I don't know if you've ever done that. Well, they shouldn't have frigging done that. Well, I frigging frack. I told them, don't do that. I said this and it still happened and they didn't listen to me. And I tried to stop this and they didn't listen to me. So you know what? There was a part of me that was like, you know what, Trev? Yeah, you know what, good. Good for you, Trev, that you frigging, I was talking to myself like that in third person. Like, self, good for you, self. I told myself, self, good for you. That's what you should have done. But then there was the side of me that's been renewed by Jesus, by the Holy Spirit, that new creation side. I talked about this in my twin,
if you go back and listen to my twin episode. I was like, you know what? No, no, no, you were wrong. You handled that wrong. You were not a good example of Jesus in that moment. You were not salt and light in that moment, Trev. That's what, I was like, self, you were not salt and light in that moment. You screwed that up. You let your emotions, because here's what we know. Anytime there's anger, agitation, frustration, it's not just at the moment. There's something way, way, way deeper pulling those strings, right? And we all know that. There's something so much deeper pulling those strings on that anger and that agitation and annoyance. And I'm not saying those are the three of the same thing. I just think those three all, they all hang out. They're a little posse, right? They're a little gang. They have a little bit of fun, you know, just hanging out like locking arms, slapping fives, what's up? You know, all that kind of stuff. But anyhow, I was like, no, that wasn't right in me. And I don't care if it's a deeper thing. I just feel like it wasn't right in me to be like that and to speak like that and to be sharp like that and to borderline cut down like that that I did.
So here was the thing. I wasn't like, well, let me think on this. I was like, God, I screwed it up and I'm sorry. And I'm sorry I misrepresented you. I'm asking you to forgive me. Like, and here's what I began to think about while I was sitting there was Lamentations chapter three. Let me pull it up here. Lamentations chapter three says this. I still dare to hope when I remember, this is verse 21. The faithful love of the Lord never ends. His mercies never cease. Like, as I'm literally saying, God, I'm sorry I screwed that up. Lord, just give me the grace to go ask for forgiveness for this in a couple hours, which was then, I already did it, in case you were wondering. The faithful love of the Lord never ends. His mercies never cease. Great is his faithfulness. His mercies begin afresh each morning. His mercies are new every morning. And like, as I'm literally reading this, or saying, asking for forgiveness, I was like, man, I'm so glad I didn't give into the self-pity side. Like, I could either sit there in self-pity or I can believe that this is real, that his mercies are new every morning. In 1 John 1, 9, if we are faithful to confess our sins,
that he is faithful to forgive them. 1 John 1, 9 makes that clear. Like, that kind of honesty does not push God away. I actually think it brings him closer to you. Like, the empowerment I felt after that was absolutely refreshing, in just the best way. Okay, let's go to point three. Your voice still matters, even if other people try to silence it. The crowd around Bartimaeus, what do they, they don't like the noise. They don't like what he's doing. But Mark tells us, in that thing, they were telling him, be quiet. Many of the people yelled at him. I think that was verse 48 that said that. Now, listen, I don't like loud people, all right? Even though I'm kind of loud, I don't like them, but this is not about loud people. You can almost hear it's a dismissal. The feeling that, hey, Bartimaeus, you're out of place. You're not worth Jesus stopping. That's what he's saying. That he is asking too much of Jesus. That's what they, hey, stop that mess. You're asking too much. But Bartimaeus does something that is quietly powerful. He gets louder, meaning he gets more confident. So what can we take from that? He refuses to let other voices define him
and his moment with Jesus. That part hits deeper than we usually let it, in my opinion, because so many of us, I can say us, because it's me too, are not just dealing with our own thoughts, right? We're carrying the voices of others, too. People have put labels on us. Remember that blind Bartimaeus? They've put past mistakes on us. They put things that have been said about us enough time that they start to feel permanent that I am this or that or whatever. This is who I am now, and this is all I will ever be. But that is not how God speaks. So do your absolute best to not let that take root. Ask the Holy Spirit to help you to not let that take root. I talked about that in the self-hate episode, part one. If you want to go listen to that. Now, the next thing, the fourth thing is this. Jesus stops for you in the middle of all that noise. And Jesus does something that still feels almost unbelievable when he says he's stopped. Jesus slows down and he stops. And all the noise. Hey, hey, shut up. Him yelling. No, no, no. Jesus is on his way somewhere. And there's a crowd and there's a momentum. And he stops for one man sitting on the side of the road that everyone else was trying to quiet down and tell him essentially, you're not worth it.
And I don't know if you can relate to that, but that hits me because sometimes I feel like, man, I am not a part of what the crowd and the momentum is doing. I feel like I'm on the side of the road. I'm not moving anymore. I'm not maybe as close as I should be. But here's the thing that I love. Jesus stops for people just like you and me, if that, if you can relate to that, where everybody else is moving on and you feel overlooked, but Jesus still stops. It's easy to believe that God is focused on the people who have all of their life together. That's just not true. People. Well, God focuses on people who are doing something big, something people are doing something visible, something that looks important. Listen, this moment tells us something totally different. Jesus notices the one that others overlook and he responds to the one that others have dismissed. That is so faith building for me. He stops for you. He stops for me. He stops for anyone who would believe in him. Like that's how good and personal he is. And then what happens next, man, this is significant. Don't miss this. All right. Jesus invites Bartimaeus to say it out loud. He asks a question that is almost seems unnecessary at first member was at verse 51. What do you want me to do for you, Bartimaeus? What do you want me to do? Well, Jesus, he is blind. Duh.
What do you mean? What do you want me to do? Because I don't know, here's, here's the thing. It seems obvious. So why ask? Because there's something about when you say it, something shifts. Let me say it like this. There's a difference between carrying a need and actually putting words to it. A lot of people, and I can relate to this, live stuck, not because they don't believe God can move, but because they have never slowed down long enough to admit and say what they actually want God to do in their life. Now, sometimes I know this, that is because of disappointment, like that's why they don't do that. And I get that a hundred percent. You stop asking because it feels safer than hoping again. Right? I'm not minimizing that. I get that sometimes, man, it could be because life has been about survival for so long for you that you have not even thought about what you would ask for. If you had the chance, you're just trying to survive. You're just trying to get through. You're just trying to honestly stay alive. But Jesus invites Bartimaeus out of survival mode and into clarity. That is huge. Out of survival and into clarity. And we know Bartimaeus' answer is simple, my rabbi, I want to see no speech, no overthinking, just clarity. So put yourself there. What do you want from God? Genuinely?
What do you want from God? Think about it. For those moments where you're like, Hey, I don't even know. I don't even know. Well, Jesus doesn't leave you guessing. In Matthew 6, a lot of people call this the Lord's prayer. I feel like the Lord's prayer is in John 17. I think Matthew 6 is more of the disciples prayer, but he gives this framework, man, how to pray. And he says, listen, pray like this. Our father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our debts as we forgive those who are debtors. I can't remember the rest of it, but you get the point. It starts in Matthew 6. It starts in verse 9. And it says that he could see and he follows Jesus down the road. Just like that, everything changes. The man who is known as the blind man is now walking with Jesus. The label that defined him is no longer the thing that carries his. story anymore. And that is where this story reaches into our own life. Because so many of us, I'm going to say this again, we feel like we're known by our worst moments or our worst thoughts or our past decisions or the thing that went wrong or the thing that I wish I could take back or the thing that I wish didn't terrorize my mind or whatever it might be, it becomes the name people associate with them. And it's, and if you're not careful again, it becomes a name. You start to believe about yourself. His name is Bartimaeus son of Timaeus, but people would call him blind Bartimaeus. I want to say like this, your current condition is not your final identity. God sees beyond that. He sees who you can become. He sees what can be restored, what can be rebuilt, what can be made new. He sees all of that. And sometimes the first step in that process is not even the external change is that inner transformation, learning to see differently, learning to think differently, learning to believe that your story is not finished yet. Neither is mine. We're still walking that road with him. Having, what does he do? He opens his eyes. When you see opened eyes in the Bible, it's fresh vision. It's fresh vision. Like that's, maybe that's your thing. Like I just need a fresh vision for my life, Lord. I just need a fresh way to see my life. All I see is these walls. All I see is this, this issue, this problem, whatever it might be. Maybe it's just fresh vision. All right, Lord, who did you make me to be? Who did you make me to be? And I think for real, the whole point I brought this, I'm about to sneeze. Oh, I'm trying not to sneeze. I think I stopped it. Nope. I'm about to sneeze. I think I stopped it. We're good. Sorry about that. Have you thought about what you want from him? I'm not talking about selfish crap. Like James 2 makes it clear. If you're praying prayers that are selfish, they're not going to happen. But what do you want? Like, what do you, what do you, what do you want in me? Maybe that's a question you ask God. What do you want to meet? Hey Lord, I want to not live with that shame. Lord, I would really love to have a connection with somebody else. Lord, I would really love to actually forgive myself. Like, I don't know what yours is. I'm just throwing
out random things. That's something for you to think about. What do you want from him? And then bring it up to him. Bring it up to him. I'd encourage you to see if there's, if there's things in scripture that talk about that specific thing that you want and go read those, go watch videos on those. Go learn from that. Go pour that stuff in. But what do you want from him? There's things in my life I want right now. It has nothing to do with material stuff or situational stuff. I'm talking internally. There's stuff I want. Like Lord, and I'm not saying that stuff's bad, but just for me, I'm like, Lord, I want this. Lord, I want this. Lord, I don't. Let's deal with this deeper issue of why I've been angry and agitated and frustrated. Like that's me right now. Like, Lord, this is what I want. What I want. This is what I want. I don't know what that story, there's so much in the Blind Bartimaeus story that I absolutely love that you could take from it and learn from it and apply it from not having that identity to leaving that behind, to walking with Jesus on the road, to crying out to him, to speaking to him, whatever it could be. I just want you to champion this season. If you've never accepted Jesus and you know that tug on your heart is I need to do this. He offers you forgiveness. It doesn't change what you did. Doesn't change the past. None of that. It doesn't maybe even change your condition of where you're sitting. But what it does do is it changes your relationship with him where you are forgiven forever. The Bible says for as far as the East is from the West, you are forgiven. And if you've never asked him for forgiveness of the sins for your sins, I believe you should. He left heaven, came to earth, died on a cross for you, rose again three days later. So you could have a relationship with him. It says to make him your savior. Everybody's got a savior for Christians as Jesus, but you also need to make him the king of your heart. Lord. Now I'm not in charge. You're in charge. What do you say? What do you lead? Where are you taking me? It's not anymore. What I want. It is what you want. If you're like, Hey, I want more of that. I need to learn more about Jesus being the king. Go to Matthew five, go read Matthew five, six, and seven, the sermon on the mount. You'll see things that stand out. They are. I should, I need to walk with Jesus closer than that. Not, Oh no, I need to get better. No, no, no, no. I don't know why I gave it that voice. No, no, no. Oh, I just need to walk with Jesus better in that area. Oh, I just need to trust him more. Lord. What do you, what do you want?

1994 Deion Sanders was a mercenary. The 49ers could not beat the Dallas Cowboys, so they went out and got Sanders. And in one season, he gave them exactly what they were missing. Defensive player of the year, six interceptions, a Super Bowl. But how much of the 49ers' success was because of Deion? And can one player actually be responsible for a team winning the Super Bowl? To answer that, we need to go back to 1990, after the 49ers had won their fourth Lombardi Trophy. The San Francisco 49ers, the team of the decade. This 49er team has everything, and I don't know that it isn't the best team it's ever been. I don't think that there's a team as good, I don't think there's a team as close, so unless something changes between now and next year, I don't know how the 49ers can be beaten. But things did change. Joe Montana got hurt in the 1991 NFC Championship game, and the Dallas Cowboys emerged as a contender after trading away Hershel Walker for a bounty of draft picks. It's been a long climb back for the Cowboys since the famous game of the playoffs in 1982 in January when Dwight Clark made the catch that started the 49ers in their road to four Super Bowls and ended the Cowboys' vision of America's team for another decade. People had argued that it was the 49ers or the Cowboys. Today, here in Candlestick, the Cowboys proved that they were the best team. The Cowboys are back on top of the mountain now. They were there in the 70s, fell off in the 80s, they're back on top now, and they should stay there a while. Wow. The Cowboys and 49ers were now the two best teams in football. A rematch was a foregone conclusion in 1993. I heard Dan Reeves on the radio saying, you know, I don't know who's going to win, it's going to be a tight ballgame, the 49ers are real good, etc., etc. And I said, well, I'll solve this. I just called in and I said, We will win the ballgame, and you can put it in three hit headlines. I remember sitting on the bus, riding to the stadium, and I was, we're going to win in three or as both letters. I looked up at coach, I said, I said, don't worry, I got your back. Taking this franchise that was 1-15 in their first year, two Super Bowls in a row. And right away, Super Bowl XXVIII. He gets the ball, and here comes the Cowboys. It's Thomas Everett with one man to beat, Tina. And now he's on his way. Don Bebe, the lone girl, touchdown, Dallas. Emmitt, breaks a tackle. 10-5, touchdown. Smith, touchdown. And the Dallas Cowboys, 30-13. After the final play of the game, Eddie and I got in the elevator, just the two of us. And he looked over at me and says, we can't let this happen again. And Eddie said, I don't care what it costs. I don't care about anything. We're not going to lose to Dallas in the NFC Championship this year. The 49ers signed several high-profile free agents, building a team to beat Dallas. And no player had more of an impact than Deion Sanders. Deion Sanders gave up an awful lot of money
with offers from other clubs to play with San Francisco because he wanted to. once the Super Bowl ran. This man single-handedly shut off an entire side of the field. Watch Deion Sanders right here take Flipper Anderson really out of the game. Deion got here and basically said, I've got my side of the football field. You guys go do whatever you have to do. And that's been the approach that the defense has taken. They're allowed to double cover the people away from Deion and he's created a much more effective defensive scheme. Chris Miller's got double coverage with Davis and McDonald, and he still winds up throwing the football out to that side. That's how much respect Deion Sanders gets from everybody. The best thing that happened to Eric Davis was Deion Sanders showed up. I guess he made everyone better in the secondary. And one guy who hasn't had an opportunity even to have a catch or a yard has been Andre Risen. They talked about the big matchup with Deion Sanders. Sanders has been on him most of the time, matched up man. Not even the ball has been thrown that way. I was hurt because we were best friends. We had a plan, man. We had a plan. We have the two best teams out there going after each other, and I think it's a bigger thing for the 49ers because they need some real... I mean, they've lost three in a row to these Cowboys, and, you know, until they get out there in the field,
they've made some changes, they have some new players, but until they get out there in the field and do it, they don't know that they are the best team. You get the jar all the time. The quick pass is picked off, and Harper fell down, and Deion Sanders making an attention. There goes Deion Sanders. And he probably dislocated that finger. Here's Deion Sanders up on this side. The ball has to go all the way across the field. When it's in the air that long, Deion Sanders is going to get there before the ball gets there. Then he has that bad hand, so he's just playing with one hand. I think that everyone knew that these two teams are the best, and they thought that the Cowboys were the best, the 49ers were second best, but the 49ers felt that they were the best, but they knew until they did it on the field. Like they're doing it here today, all that was is talk. All that was is talk. Deion Sanders has just proven that he's just the best cover guy there is in football. of the year. But while he had a spectacular regular season, he was signed with one goal in mind. When the San Francisco 49ers signed Deion Sanders in free agency, they signed him for one reason. We need you to shut down Michael Irvin so we can beat the Cowboys and go to the Super Bowl. This defense was revamped to play against Dallas, basically. Went out and signed free agents that fit our style of play and can get the job done. So, let's put up a shot at time for us defensively.
That opportunity came after a 44-15 blowout against the Bears in the divisional round. The winner of this game goes to the Super Bowl to take on the San Diego Chargers. Intercepted by Eric Davis. I said, we got 55 minutes to get back in this, son of a bitch. Going deep. Mike Irvin. Touchdown, Dallas. Cowboys going to quick down. Emmitt Smith is going to get in the end zone. Emmitt Smith. Touchdown, Dallas. Fake to him and Aikman throws an end zone. Irvin. Touchdown, Dallas. I tell you, those guys, those guys are going down like champions. And if you're going to be there, you're going to have to whip them. The Cowboys were about to make it a one score game. 6.14 to go. 38 to 28. Second and 10, 43 yard line. Tension building in the crowd and on the sideline. Everything at stake. A berth in the Super Bowl. Aikman dropped back to throw. Launches it way down the left side. It looks too deep and it's incomplete to Michael Irvin. Big defensive play by Sanders. Half the Cowboy team is on the field claiming pass interference. Whoa, close call. That may have been the defining play of the game. And there was a whole bunch of Cowboys came off that sideline trying to get a penalty. But no flags were thrown. The outcome of the game hinged on that critical play. The 49ers had finally beaten the Cowboys 38 to 28.
You could say that was the Super Bowl. What came next was easy. Joe Robbie Stadium at 76 degrees. 82% humidity. And Super Bowl 29 is underway. They take it to Floyd. Young to the air. Young to Jerry Rice. Touchdown San Francisco. Fastest touchdown in Super Bowl history. Young mishandles it. Well, takes it to Floyd and throws to Waters who breaks a couple of tackles and there goes Ricky for a touchdown. More than just a few coaches around the NFL that think this is the finest offensive machine that's ever been assembled. I have to say, I find it interesting that they have not gone at Deion Sanders as they said they would all week long. Gilbert flips one and that is picked off and wide out. What's a Super Bowl without a Deion Sanders interception? The 49ers wrap up one of the great seasons in the history of the National Football League. The Niners the first team to win five. And Steve Young the first to throw six touchdown passes in a Super Bowl game. 49 to 26. The 49ers had signed Sanders to beat the Cowboys and win the Super Bowl. Mission accomplished. The move was so effective, in response, Jerry Jones signed Sanders to a historic seven-year $35 million contract that offseason.
