My Twin... & Harleys?!
Every one of us has a twin...the version of us that wants to follow Jesus anywhere, and the version that wrestles with doubt, disappointment, shame, and the labels life has put on us. In this episode, we walk through the story of Thomas, not as βDoubting Thomas,β but as Thomas the Twin, and discover how God is not intimidated by our honest questions, our confusion, or even our worst moments. If youβve ever felt defined by a mistake, trapped by isolation, or unsure where God is in the middle of your sentence, this message is a reminder that you are not your worst decision, your wrestling does not disqualify you from purpose, and nothing in your story is wasted.

is because there's often these different versions of us there's these different parts of us that are sorry my hair is wild I know there's these different things if it's still the same person but we're wrestling with these different sides of us so today we're talking about wrestling with our twin and um I don't know I just felt like bringing the wrestling mask because why not oh I gotta do a few things y'all have been asking about Harley Davidson I want to see some Harleys I want to see some hogs that's what you said you need to see a hog I need to see that two-wheel mobile out there on them mean streets so okay we're gonna do that I could not go into the Harley store I know I know the black ox is not going to be happy with me about that but here's the thing because I was like number one

this is a prime supernova several of you have asked about the primes it's literally just like a Gatorade just a whole heck of a lot less calories and uh I've loved them since they come out I've been an early adapter I mean because my son and then I was like these are actually really good a few housekeeping things really quick discipleship course we're gonna be putting that out I'm hoping in the next few weeks I gotta write stuff with them I'm gonna take these sermons that I've done a couple probably a couple months ago at our church it's really just like discipleship style stuff so I'm gonna take those but I have to write stuff with it so it's taking a little bit of time but that's coming out soon I'll let you know several of you have asked hey why don't we put 41 on the Pando app my book 41 that I did
which I know a few of you have why don't we put that on the Pando app and here's just the truth of the matter it's incredibly expensive to do that and right now we just really can't afford to do that as a church it is super expensive maybe one day what else what else we got oh America won the gold in hockey and men and women so I just feel like free bird is appropriate I feel like just free bird is appropriate and what else what else I'm growing my hair out not that anybody cares if you're writing me if you write me that That's how you get a shout out. If you write me response, time is about six weeks and I'm going to listen. I've told you guys from the beginning, I just want to be honest and open with you. So what I'm having to do now is there's probably like eight or nine or 10 people that are helping me just put them in the system. All right. So I have a system that I put them in because there's so many different companies. You might write me and let's say I don't get it for six. I just read one the other day, literally from the beginning of January. And the point is that it takes about six weeks for me to get it.
From you to write back and for you to get it. So be patient with it. Also I should have brought man. I'm learning so much about that whole thing and it can be frustrating. I'm not going to be like that because I love you guys. And I told you, Hey, I'm going to do it. I read every single one, respond to them. So it really helps me build my faith. I usually do that in the first half of the week and then the second half is kind of more focused on Sundays. But what was I saying with that? Oh man, please, please, please make sure you're writing legibly your numbers, man. We've, we've gotten several that have come back like undeliverable, like that kind of stuff. And it's like, I don't really know what to do at that point. So please make sure you're just writing legibly the best you can of, Hey, here's my number. Here's especially that crap that gets sent. I shouldn't say crap, especially the stuff gets sent to like one of the, like the, like the centers, like in Tampa or stuff like that where they scan it in and it goes to your tablet. Oh my God. Oh my gosh. Are they frustrating? I mean, they're, that's more frustrating. What's it more frustrating than I don't know what's more frustrating than anyhow. One other thing also, Brett Wallenberg, I'm going to say this, a heartfelt prayer since your mom just passed away and you just found out. I want to be super respectful here, Brett. And just say, man, I'm so sorry. So, so sorry to hear about your loss. I can't imagine what it's like taking that news from behind bars and just let you know, man, we're praying with you. And so many of you say, Hey, we're praying for champions. So right now, I mean, we've got 76,000 of our closest friends watching this. And I encourage you, man, if you are thinking about you're watching this, let's stop for just a moment and pray for Brett, what he's feeling,
what he's going through. Several of you know that pain of losing family members while you're behind bars. And it just, man, I just really, I got that note this week. I was like, man, I want to make sure I stop and say something right here in the beginning. Just say, man, we're praying for you. We pray for peace. We pray for comfort in some way. And just like these moments where grieving is completely okay and normal that you'll just feel God through all of it as well, brother. All right. So there's no really easy shift from there. We're going to do shout outs at the end. I think that's it for housekeeping. And yeah, let's jump into it. Wrestling, wrestling with my twin bull. Woo. I got away sometimes. I mean, I got, sometimes I feel like there's about four different versions of me running around inside of me. Right. Anybody else feel like that? Like there's like the 17 year old that I never grew up. There's the one who wants to be old. I don't want to go through all the other ones. Cause you might be like, whoa, Trev. But there's definitely, I just feel that a ton is I feel like I'm wrestling all of these different versions of me and it's like, all right, what's the version of me that God, like that's the true me. That's the true DNA that he has given me. And that's what we're going to talk about today. So let's jump into it. Mysterio right in front of me. Mysterio had eyes in the back of his head. Mysterio's quick watch. He's going to fly up over the top of the top rope. It's going to be something nuts. From the top rope of Hurricanrana or reverse Hurricanrana from behind. It's Rey Mysterio scaling the cage. Mysterio's back out here and he's looking to make a big impact. From the top of the cage.
Over the top. The somersault flip. I've never seen anything like this. All right. So in 1886 a Scottish author, author, author named Robert Stevenson published a short novel titled The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. Now it was originally released in London and within a few months, this saying became an absolute cultural phenomenon. And by the 1900s, it had been adapted into stage productions across Europe and America. And over the next, um, what I, however many times, I don't know how long it's been since then do the math, but over a hundred film adaptations have been made from it. And that phrase Jekyll and Hyde entered into everyday language, meaning there's someone with two conflicting sides. Now critics and literary scholars have long pointed out that this wasn't just a book, like a horror book of Dr. Jekyll and Hyde. It was exposing something deeply human that we can recognize in ourselves. That's why it came out all those years ago. And we can talk about. it now, because most of us, we don't need a Victorian novel, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde to explain the tension that's within us. We've lived it. We are living it. One version of you that wants better and another version of you that made choices you can't undo. It's the battle, I say it like this, it's the battle of two versions of yourself. And maybe it's not Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde for you, alright? So we can go a little bit, fast forward 80 years or so to the creation of the Incredible
Hulk. And this guy, Bruce Banner, is brilliant and he's calm until anger triggers something enormous inside of him. And the monster was not created out of thin air, it was already in him waiting for the right moment to show itself. Maybe it's not the Incredible Hulk. Maybe it's Clark Kent, introduced in 1938 in Action Comics number one. There's a mild-mannered reporter until the phone booth, until the reveal and he goes from Clark Kent to Superman. You okay? My personal favorite, Bruce Wayne and Batman, billionaire philanthropists, yes, God, please try me, by day and vigilante by night. Okay, rack them up, rack them up, rack them up, rack them up. Okay, that's not good. I can't breathe. Now there's a Batman. Ooh, you wanna play, come on. Come on. He missed. Now these stories, they endure because they're not really just about monsters and cave. You know this. They're about the tension that is inside of us, these two versions of us, to have one side that is confident and courageous and another side that's fearful and questioning. One side that believes God 100% and another side that seems to always hesitate in trusting Him. One side that says, I will follow you, Jesus, anywhere. And another side that did not expect the cross He told us to carry to look like this. And if we're honest, we know this is not just psychology, it's not just books or comics or movies or series. This is actually pretty biblical, that if you go into the Bible, you'll see, use Simon
Peter for an example. He's bold enough to step onto water in Matthew 14. And yet hours later in the gospels, it feels like he's denying Jesus by a charcoal fire or Moses. He goes up to Mount Sinai and receives the Ten Commandments from God. And as soon as he comes down from the mountain, he sees what the people are doing and he smashes the tablets. And in one moment in God's glory, the next moment, anger has taken care of him. You see it in David, the shepherd who faced Goliath. 1st Samuel 17 was the same man who later crumbled morally in 2nd Samuel 11. You see it in Elijah. We talked about this quite a few times, calling down fire in heaven in 1st Kings 18, and then asking God to take his life in 1st Kings 19. And you see it with a man in scripture named Thomas, who the scripture would call him the twin. But I think that in this story of Thomas, it's something that all of us can relate to, because in one moment, I love this, one moment, Thomas, he is courageous as all get out. He is trusting God with everything. When everyone else doesn't want to trust God, Thomas is trusting God. But then there's another moment where we see this twin of Thomas, if you will, the same guy that went from courageous would go to questioning and doubting. I want to show you this in scripture. I never just want you to take my word for it. So here's where I want to go. John chapter 11. Now, if you've never read the Bible, it's right here on the Pando app. There's a little button at the bottom. You can read it there. We're going to go to John chapter 11. I'm going to jump way into the story.
John 11 is a great, great story for you to read and to have fun with and all that kind of stuff. But for sake of time, I'm going to put it on the screen and we're only going to read a very small portion. All right. And then I'm going to show you the other side of it. So we're going to start. Jesus was speaking about Lazarus's death, but the disciples presumed he was talking about natural sleep. Then Jesus made it plain to them, Lazarus is dead. And for your sake, I'm glad I wasn't there because now you have another opportunity to see who I am so that you will learn to trust in me. Come, let's go and see him. I love that Jesus is saying here, let me just point this out really, really, really quick. Jesus is saying, listen, even in opportunities that you don't understand why it's happening, it's just another moment where we can trust God. It's just another moment where we can put faith in him. It's another moment where we can call this, this just sound the alarm. Maybe I should say like that, like, hold on, hold on. This isn't the obstacle I'm wanting to go through, but it is an opportunity for us to trust God. Man, I love that. All right. Now watch this next part. This is the whole reason we're preaching this of wrestling with my twin. Watch this next part. So Thomas nicknamed the twin remark to the others, let's go so that we can die with them. Notice that he is saying, all right, let me back up. I got to give a little bit of context because you're like, wait, Lazarus is dying. Now he's going to die again for sake of time.
I'm not going to read all of John 11, but right before this, when Lazarus is sick and then Jesus gets the news, he's like, Hey, we're going to go see him. All the disciples said this, Hey, why are we going? Because last time we were there, they tried to kill you, Jesus. Like, why are we going back to Bethany? Last time we were there, they tried to kill you. And Jesus is like, no, no, no, this is another opportunity. That's where we jump in. So all the disciples were like, let's not do this. Let's not go. I know Lazarus is your friend. I know you love him, but let's not go because the last time we were there, they tried to kill you. And then Jesus is like, no, we are going. And this is an opportunity to trust me and learn more about me. And then Thomas is like this, this statement of faith. Thomas says, you know what, if, if, if Jesus is going to die, we'll die with him. If he says we're going, I'm going. So it's this massive fit. Like that's the kind of friends you need, right? That's the kind of brothers you need. That's the kind of sisters you need. That's some community you need. Like, Hey, listen, I don't think it's a good idea, but if you say we're going, we're going, I've got your back. I'm loyal. I'm there. That's who Thomas is. But now fast forward in time, a little bit, leaving the story of Lazarus. That's John 11.
Let's go all the way to John 20, John chapter 20 is where I want to go next. Let me pull it up here in my notes. This is the most, the most infamous moment that you would hear about Thomas. All right, let's read it here. John 20, one of the 12 wasn't present when Jesus appeared to them. Oh, let me back up. Sorry. This is after the resurrection. Jesus has died. Went through the whole passion week. He has died on Friday. He has rose again on Sunday. This is after all of that stuff. Okay. Now the disciples, all of them were afraid because they were confused. They're like, what in the world? And here's what we know. I know I'm talking way fast today. Sorry. I just, I just slammed. I mean, straight suck the sides in on an energy drink right before we hit record. Okay. So I'm like, woo. With a tear in my eye, I'm going to tell y'all with a tear in my eye. I'm feeling it. Um, anyhow, what were you saying? What were we saying? Dang. What were we saying? I was going fast.
Ric Flair. What was I? Oh, all the disciples, all of the disciples, all of them. That's all of them. All the disciples were afraid because they were confused. Here's what we know. When things happen that we're not expecting or when things happen that shake us, confusion oftentimes follows that. But here's what I love. Jesus doesn't leave you in that and it's like, hey, well get your crap together and when you get your crap together, then you can come to me. No, Jesus actually pursues you in it. That's how good of a God that he is, all right? So Jesus has shown himself to the disciples. He's already showed up to the disciples, but when that happened, there was one of them that was not present and that's what we're reading. One of the 12 wasn't present when Jesus appeared to them. It was Thomas, whose nickname was the twin. I want us to see this. Thomas, whose nickname was the twin. So the disciples informed him, we have seen the Lord with our eyes. Still unconvinced, Thomas replied, there's no way I'm going to believe this unless I personally see the wounds of the nails in his hands, touch them with my finger
and put my hand into the wounds of his side where he was pierced. Then eight days later, Thomas and all the others were in the house together and even though all the doors were locked, Jesus suddenly stood before them. Peace to you, he said. Here's why Jesus has to say that because if he starts walking just in the room when everything's locked up, you're probably gonna be a little creeped out. So he's like, listen, peace be to you. Then notice this next part, y'all. Please, please, please don't miss this. Please don't miss this. Then looking into Thomas's eyes, looking into Thomas's eyes, that is so key. He said, put your finger here where the wounds of my hands. Here, put your hand into my wounded side and see for yourself. Thomas, don't give into your doubts any longer. Just believe. Then the words spilled out of his heart. You are my Lord and you are my God. And Jesus responded, Thomas, now that you've seen me, you believe. But there are those who have never seen me with their eyes but have believed in me with their hearts and they will be even more blessed. Thomas, the one who said, if Jesus is going in John 11, we are going even if we die,
was the same man who said, I don't believe Jesus is alive after the... He said, I don't even care what y'all say. I don't believe that. One moment, maybe you can relate. We're trusting God and another moment, we are doubting that he is as good as people say that he is. Is this wrestling match with us? Is this wrestling with our twin? One version says this, one version says this. One side of us is all in for God and the other side of us is founded on our doubts and our issues and our problems and our feelings and our selfishness. And we have to talk about this. We have to be honest about this, that all of us have this twin that we're wrestling with because if we don't, we can end up giving ourself false labels when we're really just wrestling with our twins. So I'm gonna give you five things from the story. Number one is this, the twin of labels. Now, if you've been around church, you might have heard Thomas referred to as doubting Thomas, but scripture never calls him that. John is sure to know Thomas nicknamed the twin or Thomas called Didymus, which means the twin. And I just think that just, I love that John put that in there because it lines up for someone who's following Jesus.
Again, there's one version of you that loves God and there's another version of you that loves your own ways. I'm gonna talk more about this in a minute. You're getting the point, right? But I need to address the label first because he's commonly called doubting Thomas. He is labeled off of eight days of his life. He only doubted eight days. And I don't know about you, I don't want to be labeled off of eight days of my life. He was still a disciple of Christ. He still passed out the loaves and the fishes, saw countless healings, that story of Lazarus. He would watch Lazarus come back to life and walk out of the grave. He would hear with his own ears, Jesus teaching the Sermon on the Mount. Like Thomas still did all that stuff, yet we label him off just a few days of his life. Do you see how screwed up that is of us? But maybe you can relate because there's one version of you that you've been labeled off a few days of your life that you made some massive mistakes. And somewhere along the way, you took that label and that label became a twin that you're wrestling with all the time. Some of us, we were called too much. We were labeled too much, too emotional, too loud, too needy, too intense.
You're just too much. Others of us, we were labeled not enough. You're not smart enough. You're not spiritual enough. You're not pretty enough, Trev. Oh God, I hated that one. I've never been that fine. Trying to be like Leonardo DiCaprio. Anyhow, I'm not disciplined enough. I'm not this or whatever it might be. And some of you are wrestling with the twin of that mistake I just said. And you're labeled this, an inmate, a felon, an offender, violent, a monster. The one who ruined everything. The one that everybody. forgot about no one visits. Sometimes that label came from a parent who was overwhelmed. Sometimes it came from a coach as someone said something over years ago, and you carry that. Maybe it was from a spouse or someone that you love, a family member. Sometimes, man, listen, sometimes it's from someone in church and sometimes it could be even you carry this label that becomes your twin because your own internal narration that never shuts its mouth. And here's the thing, those names stick and they become this twin that follows us into every room. And that is a wrestling match we have to be honest about. You're just going through your day, trying to just do your time and move on. And you still hear that other name whispering to you. You're nothing but the screw up. You're nothing but the one who doesn't even deserve a thing. You're nothing but just a doubter. You say you believe in God, but you know, in your heart, you feel like you don't. But there is another voice. Please hear me. There is another voice. I don't want you to miss this. That comes directly from the spirit of God that we all have as disciples of Christ, according to Romans chapter eight. Thank you, Jesus. That voice does not come from your past. That
voice does not come from your performance. That voice does not fluctuate with your worst days or even your worst mistakes. It is the names that God almighty speaks over you, wherever you are out there in Pando land. He says this about you. Hear me, please. He calls you beloved, chosen son or daughter forgiven. He calls you redeemed. He calls you more than a conqueror, a new creation, a friend, an ambassador for the kingdom. He calls you light of the world and salt of the earth. He does not call you. Hear me your worst moments. He looks you in the eye and he calls you his. And this is where the wrestling lives right here with the twin of the names you were given and the name that he is giving you. We have to wrestle with that. Am I going to trust what God has said? Am I going to live from the name that God has given me or the label that others have given me? Now, practically, let me tell you how to walk this out. Bring Jesus into the conversation about this. If you do not name this with him, I don't know if it's possible for you to walk it out and wrestle that twin and win, right? So here's what I want to tell you to do. Talk to him about it. Man, how do I say this clearly? I was going to read it straight from my notes, but I just want you to know my heart. God, this is what they call me. They call me a monster. They call me violent. They call me screwed up. I'm trying to get better at my language. They call me these things. I call myself forgotten. I call myself overlooked. Whatever it might be, you need to be honest with Jesus about these things. You need to be honest with him about these things. And then, and then, like, God, I don't want to be labeled as this. I don't want to be this. And then here's what I would do. I'm going to put these in the description so you can go read them. I want you to read Psalm 139, 1-18, 1 John 4, 7-19, Romans 8, 31-39, Ephesians 2, 1-10, John 15, 9-19, Psalm 136, 1-9, and then 23-26. Here is why. Why would I have you read those? Because you need to hear that's how he sees you. That's how he sees you. Especially if you're living with these labels, man, you need to see that is how he sees you. Again, I'll put those in the description so you can have those and, and, and really just feed your heart, bring that label up and then feed your heart on those scriptures. Okay. There's no replacement for the word of God. Never, never miss us. Even this cool stuff we get to do here. There's no replacement for the word of God. Okay, here we go. The next twin that we are going to wrestle with is the twin of clarity and the twin of confusion. Okay. The twin of clarity and the twin of confusion.
Now let's go to John 14. Okay. John 14. Jesus is speaking to the disciples here. John 14. Here's what he says. He goes, listen, don't worry or surrender to your fear for you've believed in God. Now trust and believe in me also. My father's house has many dwelling places. If it were otherwise, I would tell you plainly because I go to prepare a place for you and when everything is ready, I will come back and take you to myself so that you will be with me where I am. Notice this next part. And you already know the way to the place that I'm going. Thomas literally cuts in here. Thomas butts into the conversation and he says to Jesus, master, we don't know where you're going. So how could we know the way there? Jesus explained, I am the way I am the truth and I am the life. No one comes next to the father except through union with me. To know me is to know my father. Jesus goes, Hey, y'all know the way. And Thomas, I love Thomas is like, well, I know you're in the middle of a car I know you're in the middle of giving us this great things right now It's almost like Thomas I looks around to to like the rest of disciples. Like do y'all know what he's talking about? Do y'all know what he's talking about? And he's like, um Sorry, sorry to interrupt Jesus you say we know the way and Thomas is like Lord, we don't know the way we do not know where you're going. Like how how can we know the way and I just love Thomas his Honesty here that that he voices what everyone else is thinking. Now. What what does that matter of the wrestling with this twin? Because there's a twin inside of us that hears the words of God and all of who we are says Yes And amen Like we understand what God's teaching to us whether it's through a podcast like this or a sermon or whatever might be like God I hear you Yes And then there's a whole nother side of us that when God says things through a teaching you're like, I don't understand Any of this is this wrestling now? Growing in faith is not pretending you understand It's actually bringing confusion into the room with Jesus just like Thomas did so if you wrestle with hey
Some things are super clear and and some things I don't understand. Listen, here's what I tell you to seek clarity Don't just turn a blind eye to it because the danger is you begin to coddle a shallow weak faith I know that's harsh, but I want you to hear my heart the fact that Thomas speaks up gives us one of the most monumental truths and the whole entire Christian faith if if Thomas does not ask Jesus What are you talking about? We don't have I'm sure God would in his sovereignty would have somehow got it to us But think about this John 14 6 is one of the most Monumental verses in all of Scripture where Jesus makes it clear. I'm the way I'm the truth I'm the life and you cannot get to the Father except through me. Jesus gives us Incredible exclusivity here in the thing. Like listen, there aren't many paths of God It's only through me is what Jesus says. The only way we have that verse is because Thomas asked a question So I want to say this What is on the other side of what you see clarity on like, you know, what are you gonna wrestle like? Okay, I understand this. I don't understand what this will wrestle with that twin of you'd like, you know what? There's some things I don't understand. I want to understand so many of you write me asking questions. That's what I want That's what I want like to help you grow in your relationship to understand things better My brother Jonathan Brandon, but I've never I mean this man I should write a book by how many questions this man asked me, but you know what? Here's what I love about it He's seeking truth. Sometimes he tries to stump me, but he's seeking truth I hear his heart through his writings of well, what about this? What about this man ask those questions? There is nothing nothing wrong with it. And let me say this kindly If you think you understand it all be really careful Be really careful. If you think you understand everything be really really careful I've never met anyone in genuine faith understand everything that they're hearing God speak to them And here's why because I think God wants us to dig deeper. He wants us to dig deeper He doesn't want shallow and if you're like, well, I get it. I get it. I see I see it. Whoa. Whoa, cowboy. Oh Whoa, I'd hold up a little bit on that. I'm gonna tell you right now. I'm not the standard of anything But I sure as heck do not understand everything and I love I it's when we wrestle with this twin of clarity and confusion It's taking us deeper in union with him, that's the whole point and we don't get stuff to win arguments
That's freaking stupid, right? Like I hate when people try to debate me and like 98% of them are Christians I'm I dude have a nice warm glass of shut your friggin mouth like and none of that's not you guys for the record I'm talking about just people on the outside always want to you know Be some who they remind me of on on a YouTube video or something, you know Some freaking some basement theologian this that's you know, still living with his mother and he's 35 I'm I dude have a nice warm glass of shut your friggin mouth Okay, but because here's the thing it's never meant for us to debate It's meant for us to grow in relationship with Jesus think about this the more you understand about somebody the closer you get to them The more that you know about them the more you trust them. That is the whole point of why we seek Understanding and wisdom. I love this Proverbs chapter 4 says this get wisdom get understanding Do not forget my words or turn away from them the beginning of wisdom is this get wisdom? I love this the beginning of wisdom is this like start it like go for it And then it says though it costs you all you have get understanding. I wrote this down Understanding is grasping the deeper meaning and purpose while wisdom is the application of this of this truth. Maybe I should say like this Understanding is grasping the deeper meaning purpose of truth while wisdom is the application of truth that's what we have to get understanding is the deeper meaning and purpose of God's truth while wisdom is the application of this truth and he says listen get the wisdom which means this seek him for it one of my favorite verses in all scripture James 1 5 says if any of us lack wisdom ask God he won't rebuke you for asking because your failures and your faults he says literally just ask him so the question is this will we feed into our pride that says well I know everything I don't need to know anything or will we be honest like hey there's some stuff I don't understand and Lord I'm seeking you for that not just for the knowledge but because of this rubber like let me say like because of this relationship I should say that can grow more and more and more the more you know someone the more you trust them and if that's true with just regular just old just old you know people walking around then how much more true is that with God all right let me read that verse to you if anyone longs to be wise ask God for wisdom and
he will give it he won't see your lack of wisdom as an opportunity to scold you over your failures but he will overwhelm your failures I love this with his generous grace thank you Jesus thank you Lord all right all right here we go the next one let me jump down we're gonna go back to John 20 okay so we're going back to John 20 you know what I was gonna skip this one let's not skip it the twin of community and isolation now no that sounds a little weird with you behind bars you're like I'm in isolation I am shut off hear my heart John 20 again one of the twelve wasn't present when that when Jesus appeared to them it was Thomas whose nickname was the twin now that line of Thomas not being present absolutely is haunting to me that's the best I know to say because I've learned the twin inside of us that is hurting or confused often withdrawals and isolation you know this amplifies everything that is all that you're already feeling isolation will convince you that that doubt is permanent but it is not it is just as loud or it's incredibly loud I should say like that because you're alone now let's not pretend that these realities don't exist incarceration is literal isolation and some of you are in solitary right now some of you are emotionally isolated in your dorm right now some of you stopped writing home because shame got so loud and you felt so isolated but I want to remind you of this you are not alone this right here exists this community exists Jesus still walks into locked rooms like he did here because he is passionate about about going after you and it's the heart posture it's the heart posture that says all right Lord if you want to bring someone good people into my life I am open to it if you want to bring someone that is positive and can help me grow my relationship I am open to it and I know that word isn't for everybody but if you know hey I've closed myself off to everyone maybe it's time that you say you know what Lord I'm already in physical isolation I don't want my heart to be in isolation as well and I'm just asking that you'll bring the right person I'll say this if you write me I will read it and write you back 100% all right now what we talked about earlier in the opener a lot of that stuff can get screwed up so don't be like well I
knew it come on now don't don't feed into those doubts right now let's go to the next one the twin of honest questions and hardened ultimatums honest questions and hardened ultimatums all right so let's read here so the disciples informed him we have seen the Lord with our own eyes but still unconvinced notice this Thomas replies there's no way I'm going to believe this unless I personally see the wounds of the nails and of his hand sorry touch them with my finger and put my hand into the wound on his side where he was pierced notices his tone has changed there's no way unless I see unless I touch I will not believe that's not the same tone of Thomas and John 14 where he just is asking notice the shift earlier on his questions hey we don't we don't know the way but you know like show us now he's setting conditions there's a difference between wrestling with God and putting God on trial there is a difference and the twin without within us can move from vulnerable to defensive against God very quickly let me tell you this there is no win in that stay honest in your question questions not hardened in your ultimatums all right honest in your questions not hardening your ultimatums the next one the last one is the twin of faith and disappointment we cannot talk about Thomas and not talk about that twin the version of us we've said this a hundred times that says I will follow you Jesus anywhere in John 11 whatever you ask me to do the answers yes whatever you ask me to sacrifice the answers yes wherever you lead me Jesus I will follow I am yours there is that version of us but we also know if you if you You have lived more than a week. There's a version of us, there are times where you wonder if all you have believed about God and Jesus are even real because we know this life is messy. Life is always lifin'. Things don't turn out how maybe we thought we would. Prayers seemingly go unanswered at times and you aren't sure if or maybe why God has allowed these things to happen. That version of you says still no matter what I trust you God that you are good and this
twin of yours says I don't know. My disappointment seems to be overriding my faith. And this is where Thomas is in this and if you can relate to him, I gently want to give you some practical point, practical inputs, points I guess works too. Disappointment hits hardest where devotion ran deepest. Disappointment hits hardest where devotion ran deepest. His courage was flipped not because he was a coward but because he was wounded and disappointed. Think of everything Thomas saw. All that Thomas watched play out before him. Think about that. All the miracles, everything. And then for it just to unravel in just a few short days. Even think about this Judas who sells Jesus out. That was one of Thomas' like closest brothers if you will and he betrays the Messiah. I mean he was with Judas for three years and they trusted him. Disappointment hits hardest where devotion ran deepest. And inside prison, disappointment maybe often sounds like this, God why didn't you stop me from making that mistake? Why didn't you protect my family and my kids? Why did you let this happen? Jesus, why didn't you answer that prayer when I asked you to help me and forgive me and just get me through this? So if that's the twin you are wrestling with, here's what I want you to know, man I'm hooked You have to be brutally honest with God. Not accusing, not pretending, but you need to be brutally honest with God. Say things like this, it feels like you left me. It feels like you didn't keep your word. I know that isn't true, but this is what it feels like. God is not afraid of your honesty. The Psalms are full of them.
You heard me how many times tell you to feed your heart in the Psalms. Now, I want you to notice how Jesus treats that twin, if you will, of Thomas. He doesn't rebuke him. When he appears to him, he doesn't rebuke him. He doesn't compare him to others, be like, hey, you're a big screw up and all these people are great. He does not say, Thomas, why in the literal frick are you like this? He doesn't say any of that. It says this, I want to read it to you, then looking into Thomas's eyes, he said, put your finger where the wounds in my hands are, here, put your hand in my wounded side and see for yourself. Thomas, don't give yourself to the doubts any longer. Just believe. It says he looked him in the eyes and in that culture to look away, it would have been to reject him, to lift their head and to look in their eyes would have been restore him. And Jesus looks him in his eyes. Jesus was saying in Matthew six, if you remember the eyes are the lamp into the whole body. If your eye is healthy, your whole body is full of light. He looks him in the eyes. Why? Because Jesus is the light of the world. He looks him into the eyes to bring light into Thomas's grief, darkness, that disappointment, that failure feeling that he has. He looks him in the eyes. And here's the thing. He makes a declaration from that moment. Remember the word spilled out of him, right? You are my Lord and my God. Why? I believe it's because Jesus looked him in the eyes.
And here's the thing. He does the same with you. He does the same with you. One of the strongest declarations, if not the strongest one of the gospel of John of Jesus divinity comes from Thomas. It comes from a man who wrestled the hardest. And if you are wrestling with this stuff, if you are wrestling with your twin, it is not the opposite of faith. I honestly believe this with everything aside of me. It is the doorway to a deeper faith. It is the doorway to a deeper relationship with God. If you're honest, if you're honest and wrestle with this, because church history would tell us Thomas would end up going all the way to India. The one that that's remembered so much because of his doubt was the one that went the furthest out of all of the disciples. Which tells me this, you wrestling doesn't disqualify you from your purpose. You wrestling with things doesn't disqualify you from God using you and using your story and speaking to you and lifting your spirits. Just know he looks you in the eyes. And he says, go ahead, I'm going to meet you right where you're at. And with all of the struggles that you're feeling. And then at the end, he says, hey, hey, Thomas, I love he goes, hey, listen, you're blessed because you see, but there are going to be people that don't see and they'll be even more blessed. That's you and I. That's you and I. He's talking about people after he has ascended to heaven. Now, here's what I love. Here's what I see with that. Jesus says, hey, Thomas, I know you struggled, but even in that struggle, I'm going to use
this line for people to be encouraged for all of eternity. Amen. shows me even in our struggles, nothing is wasted. With Jesus, nothing is wasted. Hey, listen, I've tried to put together a few different twins. I didn't wanna go the cliche route of like, hey, the twin of like the one, the part of me that wants to do good and the part of me that doesn't wanna do good. We know that. Romans 7 talks so much about that. If you struggle, and I know we all do, hey, there's part of me that wants to do right and there's a part of me that doesn't do right and I feed into that. Go read Romans 7. I wanted to bring something different with Thomas. Just talk about this twin that you're wrestling, man. And you're like, and sometimes, man, listen, I deal with this all the time. There's days where I am full of faith and there's days where I'm like, God, why have you forsaken me? There's days where I'm like, Lord, I hear you. And there's days where I'm like, I can't hear you. Literally, if you were standing in this room, I don't feel like I could hear you. There's days where I live to what Jesus has called me as and there's days that I've lived up to labels
that I've put on myself and other people have put on me. It's this wrestling, man. There's days it's clear, there's days I'm confused. There's days I'm in community, there's days I'm in isolation. I'm preaching to myself with all this. It's this twin, this friggin' twin that I wrestle with all the time. You could use this a thousand different ways. I just hope it spoke to you. I really do. That's my whole heart. And I want to say this. If you have never accepted Jesus as your personal Lord, meaning King, as your personal Savior, meaning this, there's nothing you could do to receive forgiveness except through Him. Here's what I love about Jesus is He doesn't wait for you to come to Him. He's already pursued you. The very fact that you are watching this right now is proof that some dude sitting in St. Augustine, Florida and Northeast Florida is speaking to you is proof that God is pursuing you right where you're at. If you've never given your life to Christ, there's a button right below. I encourage you to do that. Give your life to Christ. Start this journey. Here on the Pando app,
there are so, so, so many different resources to help you grow in that. Of course, we put this show out every single week to help you grow in that and to make you laugh and to have fun and to play random music, mainly to make you grow in your relationship with Jesus. So I want to make that clear. But I just want to say, man, if you've never done it, take that step. If you have and you're wrestling with this, man, get wisdom, as it says. Get understanding. Dive deeper. Go read John 11, John 14, John 20, and let it speak to you. See yourself in the story and let it speak to you as well. Also, I think I said this earlier, the discipleship course we're putting together, I'm hoping it is out soon. But because I have to type stuff up with it, so I'm gonna take some messages that I taught before just to our church that I really think are basic discipleship things. But it has me typing some teaching up with it, so that's taking just a little bit more time. But anyhow, be looking for that on here as well. Now, y'all know what time it is. Oh, you know what time it is. Oh, you know what time it is. It's shout-out time!

And we just pray for them in this moment that they just feel your presence, even right now, as I'm recording this at 11.19 a.m. Eastern Standard Time on February 25th. Father, I pray that you are with them right now. And we just declare healing over them and that their spirits will be lifted. And we pray for Ben, too, for Ben Gordon that would write in for his friends, for his bunkmate, for those that are around him. I would just pray a special blessing over him, as well. Alright, and I thank God everybody else. Eddie Johnson, I just gave Big Eddie a shout out. Alright, thank you guys. Care about you. Love you guys. Joshua Gilbert, good to connect with you again. The other day, love all of you tremendously. Now, we are going to jump into some different things. I got something very, very, very, very, very special at the very end of this. Let's jump in. Alright, here we go.
Let's wrap it up with this. I have never, ever, ever, ever, ever done anything like this, but a couple, man, I don't know how long ago it was now. A couple months, we haven't been on here that long, a couple months ago, a gentleman named Jeffrey Hatcher reaches out to me. We connect. He draws me this, this really cool picture in the very beginning and I loved it. I loved it so much. And then he sent two others and I'm missing the birthday cake one. Frick you U.S. mail. Just kidding. I love you U.S. mail. God bless you. I didn't mean that. Anyhow, the point is this. able to speak with him and pour into him and him, him even speaking and pouring in things into me. He's always been incredibly genuine as well. And I just thought it was really cool. Um, you know, who would have thought this time last year, who would have thought that I would have this connection with somebody all the way down in Arcadia, Florida. I don't even, I had to ask him that because I don't even know where the heck that is. And uh, anyhow, the point is this, we start talking and he brings up, uh, this, this, this nice young lady named Billy Joe that he is in love with and he brings it up and he says, Hey man, you would not believe, uh, I forget exactly how he said it, but just how much he was in love with her. And he said something that stuck out to me big time. I didn't expect this. He says, I don't have any regrets. He goes, everything that happened, I don't have any regrets.
The only regret is I had was not marrying her. And so we start processing this stuff and because here's, here's my heart, like that's what I want to do. Like I want to help people champion every season of their life. That's why, that's why we literally exist and we start processing this stuff. And he said a few things and I was like, Hey man, let's hold off on that. Let's press pause on that. And we just keep pouring in and we keep having these conversations, keep having this conversations. And every time he's talking about Billy Joe and her family, talking about how much, uh, iron sharpening. iron between them two and all that kind of stuff. And then we were able to have another conversation. I said, Hey, let's go back to the first one. Let's talk about this. And that's really, really, really, uh, I don't know. It prayerfully and respectfully approached this. And here's what he said. He said, Trevor, would you do me a favor? And he laid it out. And in that moment, I said, no, but today is the day. He said, Trevor, would you ask Billy Joe for me through this right here, if she would marry me? So Jeffrey Hatcher is asking Billy Joe, will you marry him? If the answer's no, this is going to be awkward. Okay. If the answer is yes, congratulations. I already told you guys I would do the wedding just because I love a good party. Uh, but anyhow, Hatcher, absolutely love you, brother. I love how close we have gotten through this time. Never would have thought about it.
And Billy Joe can't wait to meet you one day as well. Hopefully say yes. I imagine you are going to communicate somehow and figure it out from here. But I was thinking of a good wedding song to close out. And I thought about that movie, uh, hitch and that, that, that end wedding song was good. I thought about forever by Chris Brown as well, but I've already used his stuff. Uh, but I thought this song would be perfect for it. So until next time, God bless you guys. If you're wrestling with your twin, man, do it with the Lord and, uh, let his grace help you through all of it. I love you guys so much. We'll see you right here. Uh, as the old show would say, same bad time. Well, we don't know that I'm not always best with that. But same channel until next week. God bless you guys. We love you.
