Well, good morning the first time. I don't know how many people heard it the first time. Anyways, I'm Jennifer, and it's always an honor to come up here and give you the announcements. The Grace International Leadership Conference, I really hope that you're able to make it. It's so much fun traveling and going anywhere with House of Rest Church. If you haven't done it, you're really, it's really a good time. We've got a bunch of great people here. Pastor David, you always have such a way of making the trip a little bit extra in a good way. Believe it or not, he is a comedian. So that's September 28th and 29th. House of Rest leaves together as a family right after service, right after the Sunday service, and they travel down to Orange, and then everyone gets checked in. So mark your calendars, try to make that if you can. It's always a really great time. In addition to that, we have discipleship class. So discipleship class number two, it is Assurance of Salvation. I just had that conversation too, excuse me. So Assurance of Salvation, you know, how do you know that you've got it? They're just going to help you understand what it is. This happens immediately following the service. So if you are signed up to go, make your way quickly into the PBLS classroom, and we'll get started right away on that. Wednesday night Bible study and youth group is always a good time. If you know kids, you have a niece, a nephew, bring them out. It's so important for our kids to develop Christian friendships, and then our leadership in there, they do a really, really great job of pouring into our youth. So that's Wednesday night, 6.45, Bible study starts, and the youth goes from there. We also do young adults gathering every Wednesday night during that same time. So sixth, seventh grade to twelfth grade is the youth, and then 18 to 30 is young adults. All right, it's time for meet and greet. If everyone wants to stand up, say hello to your neighbor, go out of your way, say hi to someone that you don't know. If you're tuning in online, we're really glad that you're here joining us. I just wanted to share something because you know we had our we had our recent one on July 31st and I'm gonna boast because I get to do that. You know we had our we've

been having a few young ladies that have been coming I'm talking about 13, 12, 13, 14 year olds that have been coming to our women's discipleship faithfully from day one that we started and they have been doing their curriculums. They have been doing everything and I can't even tell you how blessed. Women are we not blessed? The women that come do you know are you guys not blessed when you see these young ladies there with us? It has been such a blessing to see how engaged they are. They read the word with us, they do the curriculums with us, they engage, they ask questions, they read the word with us, they pray with us and now they're leading worship on that Friday. They lead the worship on Fridays and I'm just the growth that I'm seeing in these young girls is just tremendous but this is what it's about. You know they come in they start helping set up because what started out as us you know collecting a small love offering so we can provide the little snacks and everything now the women are bringing snacks galore and we have little bit of food. If you don't come you're missing out women. You are missing out because it gets so um it's just amazing. It really is. There's a bond that is that is just growing here with the women but not just that we get to be a beautiful example to these young girls and I just love what I see what's happening and then we have not just that but our young adults because I get blessed to hear some of these young adults these young women the way they speak they bless my heart so much and I'm thankful because I sat back I sat back this this Friday and I was just mesmerized and it really really blessed my heart so much and all I can do is just smile. I had to snap a picture in between that by the way but I just sat there and I smiled and I said thank you Lord. Thank you because even when we come early when we're tired or whatever it be this is what it's about. So I encourage you to come out if you have young girls or you have daughters and you're at home and you're just like I don't want to do it but I promise you that the moment that you do get here at the end of the night you're gonna be like this was so worth it. It was really worth it so don't let anything stop you from coming out just just take the step take the step out of your door you have little ones I'm sorry we don't have child care

for right now but if you do have somebody to help you with your children for now husbands take care of your kids so that your wife can get out you know do that please because she needs this time for her she really does so please help your wives and take care of the little ones so that way she can get out because she will be blessed amen. Who has your Bible? I want you to lift your Bible up, and we're going to make a declaration of this word. Do you guys not have it? Oh, you guys got it. The whole computer, so they had to become computer experts too this week, because everything erased. Look at the devil, man. Try to erase everything on that computer. This is my Bible. It is God's word to me, my guide and my strength. I bring it ready to learn. I open it with faith in Jesus. I live it with courage. Without it, I grow weak, and with it, I grow strong. Today I bring it, believe it, and obey it. In Jesus' name, amen. Amen. Welcome to the House of Rest Church. Before we're a church, we are a family. I'm so glad that you guys are all here, and whether you realize it or not, this is going to be a new chapter in this church. You know, today's sermon is called The Blueprint, Building the Vision Together. And that's what we're going to be talking about today. In 15 years of this church, I have never preached in 15 years an entire sermon on tithing and giving. I have spoken on it, but not an entire sermon. But let me say this, is not everything in the Bible the Word of God? All of it. Do we get to choose what we like and what we don't in this book? No.

So it is important that we have, and all of us have a shared understanding on this subject. In the same way we have an understanding of what worship is, what prayer is, what tongues is, what healing is, what evangelism is, what scripture is, what marriage is, and family and etc, etc, etc. So obviously we have to know what the Word of God says when it comes to giving. Now you cannot accuse me and say, oh that's one of those pastors, all he does is talk about money. Fifteen years of not preaching on this. You can't say that. I want to start in 2 Timothy chapter 3, verse 16 and 17. Second Timothy chapter 3, verse 16 and 17. Let me know when you have it. Second Timothy chapter 3, verse 16 and 17. After we read this, I'm going to explain why after 15 years. And it says this, all scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching. Does it say some scripture? All scripture. What's it there for? To profit us in what? In teaching, in reproofing, for correction, and for training in righteousness. What is righteousness? Righteousness is to be in right standing with God. So it teaches us how to be in right standing with the Lord. 17 says that the man of God, or you women, that you may be complete and equipped for every good work. So we know according to the scripture, we declared it, we held our Bibles up and we have said that this is exactly the Word of God. We believe it. We said it. We all declared it.

We know that this is the Word and if it says it in a word, it's what God says. This isn't about what David says or Pastor Angel or anybody else. This is what God says. And we read here in the Word that all scripture is breathed. In other words, it says it's inspired by God. So even though there's different authors in the Bible, they, each author was inspired or God breathed into that person to write every scripture we read. And might I say this, have I talked about tithing and giving over the 15 years? Yes, I have at the time of giving, but I've never exhaustively, and I doubt I'll be able to exhaustively even talk about the subject in one sermon, but to be able to say, what does the Bible say? Because either we believe this is the Word of God or we don't. And it says here that all scripture is breathed by God. So if we are Christians, then we have to say, okay, then if what he says, what God says about healing is true, what he says about salvation is true, what he says about everything is true. So that means what he says about giving is true. So after 15 years, why now, why today? Four days ago, I had a meeting with leadership and staff in this church and I had a few people come in and we sat in the lobby and I asked them a simple question. I said, has anybody, have you guys seen the movie Titanic? So I'm going to ask you guys, have you ever seen the movie Titanic? Okay. Okay. Say 20 times. So in the movie Titanic, it's interesting because there's a part where the musicians in the band start playing. And I asked this. question I said it's interesting that they started playing so in other words they just said you know what we're gonna hit we're gonna sink might as well just

play until we drown and I asked the direction of everybody that was in that meeting I said we as a church are the Titanic and the iceberg is right there and if we don't talk about this do we just sing until we sink or do we talk about this and change the direction of the ship and this is the question that I asked because I'm gonna be honest with you and and sometimes I feel like a broken record but if I don't say it then we will sink over the last few months over the last over a year and a half the decline of the finances of this church is getting worse and worse and worse and it's to the point I'll be honest with you if I ignore it and don't say nothing then I might as well just start playing the violin and playing until we hit the iceberg and sink and I shared the two scenarios with the group that I was talking to and what that would look like what does it look like as a church if we ignore the iceberg and just keep on worshiping until it sinks and what would it look like if we actually turn the ship into a different direction and this is what I want to share with you today for those of you that are here for the first time I apologize but I hope you're gonna learn something today I want to talk about the Old Testament and what the Word of God says then I want to split the subject of finances into two things because one is is a spiritual thing the other one is a very practical thing and some of you are like man you know and we're gonna talk about different things that we think in our minds or think in our heads and maybe you're thinking of it right now and we're gonna hit this right on because what I don't want to do is start talking about this without talking about some of the elephants in the room and we're just gonna hit those things point blank so many of you in here you you you hear finances mentioned in the pulpit and you're like why did I come today or you feel uncomfortable or you just don't trust the subject coming from the pulpit and if you're thinking that imagine how I feel right now but we're gonna go there first let's talk about the elephant in the room and some of the things that might be going through your mind or some of your mind is why do churches always ask for money we're gonna talk about that or how about this one how do I know if my money is really

being used in the right way or I don't believe in tithing or giving that was the Old Testament or man the last church I went to all they did was talk about money or why should I give anything at all and my prayer throughout this message is that each of these questions be answered because you deserve an answer if this is what you're feeling in your heart this is your heart because obviously you are here because there's something special that you love to be here but these questions sometimes we can't ignore them because many times these questions to be honest actually come from a valid point because you know what churches have abused money before let's be honest right churches have misused finances and not use them in the right way you know but judges have also misused their authority police have broken laws doctors have malpracticed in the wrong way so do we no longer trust judges do we no longer trust the police officer you might say that but the moment somebody breaks in your house what do you do 9-1-1 do you no longer trust the doctor because there was some doctors that did something wrong do you just say you know what I ain't seen a doctor anymore no no you don't let's let's go even deeper some restaurants have roaches and rats and slimy chicken in their kitchens don't act like you didn't know that or lettuce Does that mean you don't eat out anymore? No, of course not. Many of you are going to eat out right after service and get lettuce. So if we understand these practical things, right? But yet we know, so again, we have to think this through. And another thing is tithing is in the Old Testament. That is true. I can't argue that. And the New Testament doesn't exactly say that we need to pay a tithe today the way the Hebrews were told to pay tithe in the past. That is true. We can't manipulate those scriptures and make them say something we want them to say. We just got to start from truth and honesty. That is in the Old Testament.

That is true, but we're going to go a little deeper. And you know what? I'm going to be honest with you, man. Some churches do talk about money too much. I have been to services where the tithing moment is actually a mini-sermon before the sermon. Every time in some churches, three times before the sermon. It's like, oh, we're going to pick up tithing offering. Okay. And then a little mini-sermon about that. Oh, and we need a new parking lot. And we're going to talk about that. And it just goes on and on and on. Somebody's laughing because you know what I'm talking about. But I'll tell you this. You cannot say that we do that here. Can't say that. So the person says, why should I give anything? The gospel should be free. That's true. The gospel is free. It is free. I can't argue with that. I would never argue with that. Thank God that I didn't have to pay for the gospel because that means I wouldn't have been saved. Because I wouldn't have had the money to buy it. Because can you imagine what the salvation would be worth if you could put a dollar to it? Thank God that the gospel is free. It's true. But you know what? If the gospel is free, then how come I didn't walk into Barnes & Noble's and get a free Bible? Go to Barnes & Noble's in McHenry, grab a Bible, and start walking out. And they say, hey, where are you going? The gospel is free. Oh, you bought a Bible. You had no issue with that. Nobody here argued with it.

I don't give the churches. But you bought a Bible. And you're like, oh, I want the calfskin one. I want the $80 Bible. You had no problem with that. Or you actually went to the theater and paid to watch a Christian film. But the gospel is free. What's that theater? What's it called? Brennan, yeah. What do you hear? Oh, I'm going to watch that new King David movie. Do you buy tickets? No, it's free. Gospel is free. Try doing that. You pay it. But the gospel is free. You buy mugs and T-shirts and crosses on your wall. You have no problem. But the gospel is free. Or do you expect those things to be free also? So technically speaking, when you're watching a movie, buying a mug, buying a T-shirt, whatever it is, are you actually paying for the word of God? No, you're not. You're not paying for the printer because somewhere there's a company with a printing press that has to buy ink and paper and workers and do all that. Countless people making books and films and mugs and the cotton for the shirts and material for the crosses on the wall at different stores and whatnot. So you're not actually paying for the gospel. It costs money to do things. And what it comes down to this is that I'm not sharing this to try to get something from you. I'm sharing this because I want something for you. Because this isn't about funding God's kingdom like God's broke.

That's not what this is about. It's about learning to trust God with every area of our lives, including our finances. Because we want to trust God for everything except our finances. And this is what I mean is that we have to talk about these things because some have been in churches, you have came from churches where the finances were manipulated. Churches falling apart. you Lexus and you have seen pastors abuse money and if that's your story I'm so sorry that happened to you but abuse of a biblical principle doesn't invalidate the principle itself let me say that one again the abuse of a biblical principle doesn't invalidate the principle it is still the Word of God we can't escape from it we can't argue it we can't do that that's like saying you've been cheating on before so now your spouse is gonna pay for everything that person did to you that's messed up so now you have no trust here even though that person never has given you a reason for mistrust but we come into church in the same way we come into a place because well that person abuse it that person abuse it no no no no listen a biblical principle is a biblical principle whether it's abused or not it is still biblical so we ask ourselves if someone abused something in the Bible does it mean that that biblical principle is thrown out if that's the case we wouldn't do nothing do some people manipulate worship music yes so we do we throw worship out have some people manipulated prayer for somebody yes but does that so what we don't pray anymore see we go by that then we wouldn't have nothing to do on a Sunday morning because I guarantee you every part of a Sunday service has been manipulated as some way at some time by somebody every time so we can't think that way and if we're not thinking that way or if this is what it is for house of rest then why are we heading straight into an iceberg we're heading head-on straight into it that is going to send this church sinking before I brought this message I talked to the staff and the leadership and I asked them first I said guys if we're gonna just hit the iceberg then I'm not gonna preach on it Sunday because if we don't believe this then what are we doing here and everyone in the group says we don't want to hit

the iceberg we believe what God is doing here and we're going to do everything they can to turn this ship in a different direction in the book of psalm chapter 24 1 psalm 24 1 all right see I purposely didn't want to use the typical verses that churches use for tithing because sometimes these things trigger people because you have truly been hurt or manipulated and for that reason I I didn't want to talk in that direction because I wanted us to see these things clearly the last thing I want is for you to hear this message being triggered in Psalm 24 1 it says this it says the earth is the Lord's and the fullness thereof the world and those who dwell therein so the earth is the who's the Lord's and the fullness of it why am I saying that because according to this verse we just said the Word of God is inspired by God everything we read in the Word is from God and this Word of God says that everything in the world belongs to him and everything that dwells in the earth belongs to him okay okay I'm tracking I'm tracking well then technically then we don't give God 10% and keep 90 we manage a hundred percent of already belongs to him what we have is not ours it's his and it's for us to steward it Your children are not yours, they're his, and he trusted you enough to allow you to steward that little boy or that little girl, to lead them in the right direction. Why do you think it's such a horrible thing when we don't lead our children and teach them about God? Because they belong to him. They belong to us for a little while, but they belong to God because everything on this earth is his. So everything I have, every penny I have, every dime, every dollar is not mine, it belongs to him, and it's not that I'm giving him 10%, it's that he's saying, you know what, I'm going to give you 90. It's the other way around. He gives it to us. What do you mean, God didn't fill out my resume?

Yeah, you wouldn't have had breath to have that job. You wouldn't have had the strength or whatever it is that you do if you own a business. To me, it's not a coincidence that you have a Bible scripture on the bottom of a cup and there's always a line at that place. The owner was a Christian. You know, do you know this story, maybe you don't, is that the owner of In-N-Out, when he started In-N-Out, his business was expanding and so the world's biggest maker of potatoes approached him and said, hey, you want to buy your potatoes from us? We have the cheapest. McDonald's buys from us and Burger King buys from us. You know, the owner of In-N-Out realized that that man was an atheist and did not believe in God. And the owner of In-N-Out made a decision that I would rather pay more for potatoes for the fries than to buy it from you because my money doesn't belong to me, it belongs to the Lord. Is that place blessed? I will go all these drive-thrus and they're empty, but you go to one and it's filled up. Because he understood that he's just managing what already belongs to God. See, giving existed before the law. Because we can't say, well, that's just the law. The Bible says that Abraham gave to Melchizedek and this was way before that. We see that Jacob vowed to give a tenth. This was before the laws of Moses. So we see that giving was already a biblical principle before the law. So you can't say, well, I'm not Hebrew, I'm not a Jewish, so that doesn't pertain to me. The giving was already instituted before Moses. This showed a generosity toward God that it wasn't invented by Moses. What did the law do? It didn't cause it to exist, but it established it though. Why did God establish it to Moses?

Because honestly, let's just be honest here, the tithe that the tribes of Israel were giving to the Levites was to support the Levites and the festivals and to care for the poor. That's why they would tithe. That's why they would give for the support of the priests, for the support of the festivals they had, and to care for the poor. That's important. You know, that's just the honest truth. And matter of fact, they would tithe, it was many tithes, so they would give more than 10%. I don't know, what is it, Angel, like 20-something? Up to 33% that a regular Jewish person had to do. Now somebody might say, well, that's Old Testament. That is true. But let me say this, does not the New Testament emphasize that the Lord loves a cheerful giver? God says, I'm not going to make it law anymore, now let me see what you do with it. Let me see what you would do, because I want it to come from your heart. Back then, they had to do it, but you don't have to do it now, but now let me see how you do it. Second Corinthians, he also teaches the same thing, that to be joyful giving, it's not a manipulation. So whether somebody, here's the thing, whether somebody believes in the New Testament requires exactly a 10% or a generous proportional giving, but regardless of it, if you don't like the word tithe, we won't use tithe. But are you a giver? What are we giving about, for what? We just want to know, does everyone agree that we need to be generous as Christians? That's what it comes down to, regardless of what you call it. it. I'm not gonna, I'm not gonna fight for the word tithe. A lot of times we will say, oh it's time for tithing, it's time, it just kind of, it's an easier word for people to understand what we're doing. But there's no power in that word, because the Lord loves a cheerful giver.

So in 2nd Corinthians, chapter 9, verse 6 and 7, 2nd Corinthians, 2nd Corinthians, chapter 9, 6 and 7. We're gonna make sure what I'm saying is Scripture. Want to see it in our Bibles, because we know that the Bible is inspired by God. We all said it. 2nd Corinthians 9, 6 and 7 says this. It says, the point is this, whoever sows sparingly, you know sowing is when you throw seed. If you're gonna, if you're gonna get grass in your yard and you just get a little bit of seed, you're only gonna get a little bit of grass. But if you sow a lot, you're gonna get a different thing. So it says here, whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly. You throw a little bit of seed, you get a little bit back. But whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. Each one must give as he has decided in his heart. This is the New Testament now. Back then it was a tithe, back then it was, it was ordered, it was commanded. But now God says, you know what, now that I took the training wheels off of you, let's see how you do on your own. So what I want you to do, the word says, is each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. You know something Sharon's always told me when we were first married, she's like, don't ever order me to make you a sandwich. I'm like, what? And but then she explained, she was, listen, she was, I love cooking for you. She was, but the moment you sit on a table and demand it, you're taking away my joy of feeding my husband. And that made sense. So I don't demand sandwiches. And you know what? She gives me the most amazing sandwiches. And it's not because I demanded it. It's because of her love for me. So in the same way, God's like, I'm not going to order you to give me anything. I want to see where your heart is at. You know, this church guys has so many strengths. Can I brag on you guys a little bit? You're like, yeah. Amen. Number one is, I love the fact that there's a strong presence of men in this church. Let me explain. I grew up in all kinds of little churches and the men were out drinking or leaving their wives. So the church was full of a bunch of women raising kids alone. And to be in a church where men are standing up and being men, where men are saying, I will lead my family. I will lead my wife. I will do what I have to do. I am bragging on the fact of you men that are here. That is something that I will brag about. Another thing is the hunger that I see in you women, the hunger for the things of God excites me. You have no idea

so many times I have been discouraged, but then on a Friday night and the women come and I just kind of look in the cameras. I can't hear what you guys are saying. I promise you. But when I see that it encourages me because I see the hunger of the women. So I'm going to brag on you. You know, another thing I'm going to brag about, you know, what I grew up never seen is a bunch of children on the altar. I will brag so many times I've had people come and they visit and they're like, I have never seen children waving flags like that in the front. I have never seen that. I will brag on that. That is amazing. I mean, I could keep going. And I mean, our ushers and our greeters are amazing. They are on it the best of their ability and they're just getting better and better each. Every week, yeah, sometimes a week something happens and they're like, oh, we didn't think about that. We didn't prepare for it. And they will actually talk, come together and talk about it and meet about it and say, you know what, let's change this, let's change that. That is so amazing to me. Our media team. Our media team is capable of doing things I could have never imagined. And I was a recording studio engineer for over 12 years. I ran a record company with a studio and I can't go back there. I don't know what they're doing. I go back there and it looks like it's, like we're a spaceship and they're gonna just take off. Our worship team, I'm gonna brag on this because I know we're gonna have musicians, but you know what? Man, sometimes I close my eyes and I hear our worship team and I forget that they're singing to tracks

because it sounds as if just everything is right here. You know, and it's beautiful. So many of you that your hearts are reaching the lost when I talk to you and conversate with you and hear you're sharing your stories and the things that's happening and man, my heart leaps. Whether you're in a group evangelizing or you're out there by yourself and you come and tell me, man, I talked to this person, I talked to that person, I told them about Jesus. You guys are awesome. Your ideas in furthering the growth of our children through our teachers. You know, when I sit and talk to Sister Jessica and she's like, no, no, we're not babysitting kids, we're teaching them the word of God. I will brag on that. Your kids are learning. They're learning the principles of the word of God and guys, that is the greatest thing. You might buy them the latest toy, all that stuff means nothing if you don't teach them about eternity. I mean, my gosh, our teachers, our pastors, our leaders, our staff. I mean, my wife Sharon, can I brag on her a little bit? She's like, go ahead. The way you created this amazing women's group in the midst of everything that's going on, every week, you along with some of the other women leaders,

you know, you and, well, just, I don't wanna miss anybody, just a lot of the women, it blows me away. You know, I know Jessica spoke. I think Diana, you spoke. Lorena has spoken. Sister Lydia, just amazing, amazing. There's women here that help with Christ Unbarred. We get so many letters from the prison and you know what? Nobody's clapping for them because you have no idea who they are, but they come and they do it every single week. Amen. Amen. Those of you who have gone through the six discipleship classes and you have a cross lapel, you are awesome for attending six classes and that says something. It says something that even though you were probably starving and wanted to go to cross the street to the grub hub, you stuck it out, you waited till 1230, you went to the classes, and if we're gonna turn the ship into a new direction and avoid the iceberg, there are so many things that now we can call upon you to help. You don't just take the classes and that's it. There's so many more things that we're planning. We have over 60 people now that have gone.

That's amazing. And most of you didn't even, you ditched high school. So it's a win. Six straight classes, that's a lot for some of you. That was a lot for me. I remember meeting my high school teacher on the last day of school. You caught that one. You know, I was at Planet Fitness the other day with Sharon and I started thinking. I was sitting, I was looking at this machine and I happened to look up how much it cost. Because in my mind, I'm like, man, I wish I had this at home, you know? And I'm like, you know, this is cool. And I looked up the cost, and this one machine was $1,800, one machine. And I wanted to get on the machine with Sharon, so I would have to buy two. That's $3,600, two machines. And I'm like, that's crazy. So it made me start looking at all the other machines that I just kind of walk in and be myself in, and I don't think about it. There's machines for your calves and your legs and muscles I didn't even know were in your body. And I'm just like, so I start looking around at all these machines. And then I look at all the TVs lined up, a bunch of TVs. And they're not little TVs, they're big TVs.

Along the whole thing, so whatever you're in a treadmill, whatever it is, I mean, all these TVs. And then I realize that I'm not sweating because the air condition is blowing in there. I'm like, all right. And then my bottle ran out of water, and they have this thing where it just gives you water. You just put it, boop, and it knows your bottle's there, and it just starts pouring. Like you're at an airport. I'm like, wow, this is nice. And then I'm like, oh, I got to use a restroom, and the toilet paper is fully stocked, and there's paper towels for me to wash my hands, and there's lockers, and there's showers. Wow. And then Sharon goes, what's in that room? I said, oh, that's for the black card holders. I said, I have a black card. You're my guest, so I can go in there. And that's where the massage chairs are. So I don't go there, because I'm not going to leave her out. But then I looked up the prices for that stuff. So when I start thinking about the machines, the TVs, the air condition blowing, the water fountain, the restroom fully stocked with toilet paper, paper towels, and lockers, and showers, and massage chairs, and the staff to help me. I had a question with the machine, and they're like, oh, I'll help you.

I get all that for $25. And I was thinking about buying two machines at $1,800 each, and that's just two machines. And all it does is work my legs. What about the rest of me? What if I want a massage? What if I want water? $25. How is that possible? And it's because every member in that gym pays their $25 in order for me to walk in and jump on an $1,800 machine, $1,000 machine, go get some water, do this and do that, all of it at my disposal. That's a good deal. You know, I looked up if somebody wants to open a Planet Fitness in case you're getting ideas, right? All the workout machines, the cardio gear, and all the free weights, it comes out to $1,103,000 when you walk into a Planet Fitness, $1.1 million that anybody can use for $25. And that's not counting the non-fitness equipment. For instance, the people that assist you, the front desk computers, the tanning beds, which I don't need, I'm already naturally tanned, the massage chairs, the security systems, is another $1 million. That's $2.1 million when you walk into a Planet Fitness. Man, next time I go, I'm going to walk in like I'm rich. Because while I walk in, my little $25, I own this place.

Get off my machine, man. You're babysitting that way too long. It's like I own a $2 million gym because I can use it all the time. I bought into this. That is awesome, right? So let's talk practical. We're going to get to the spiritual, but I'm sure you're getting where I'm going. Because this is something we have to talk about, practically speaking. Because what if most people chose and says, I don't want to pay my monthly gym. Nah, I don't want to do it, but I want to use it. How long will that gym last? If every person in that gym, it's just $25. Come on, it's just $25. Let me go in, let me get a workout. Come on. If everybody did that, then we would all lose because they would not be able to sustain. Well, guess what? We're here in a church with comfortable seats. I hope you're comfortable. We have greeters, and media, and music, and there's air-conditioned playing, and there's heating when it's cold, and there's classrooms for your kids, and teachers for your children that don't get paid. They got full-time jobs.

They don't want to, some of them work with kids, and then they come on Sunday to work with kids. And you're kids, whoo. Now, I think, maybe I'm biased, but you're getting some amazing, amazing Bible teaching here. You have bathrooms that run in water, and there's toilet paper? Wow. Somebody is coming in early to prepare the best possible service for you each and every Sunday. Somebody's coming in to vacuum you. Somebody's coming in and straightening the chairs out. Somebody makes sure there's envelopes. loads. Somebody's turning the AC on before. Somebody's doing all these things. Coffee's being made. Cadillacs are being sold. Someone is coming hours of administration by sharing that most of you will not even realize that she does. Hours and hours. Hours of others vacuuming, cleaning, printing curriculum for your children. Somebody's taking out the trash hours and hours of somebody studying and actually praying and reading and researching this stuff. The stuff that we preach, the stuff that we talk about and forget about the way the music sounds and the sound in here and the fact that we have lights. And you know what, even if you stay home, we have really nice HD cameras so you can see the service clear and hear it clearly. Why? Because we have internet service here. Wow. I didn't add all this up the way I did the gym, but I'm going to say this, is that the only reason it functions is if we all participate. And all of us do our part. Because this ship is heading straight into an iceberg, and it will sink. And maybe, yeah, maybe we let it. And you'll just find another church that's also going to have those same expenses. So you're like, okay, I'll just let this place sink and burn. I'll find another one. There's all kinds of places in Modesto. Fine. But you know what? That place can have the same expenses also. So maybe I'm biased in saying this, but I think the biblical teaching here is more solid than anywhere in the city. I'm not bragging. It's just we believe in the

word of God, and I fear God. That's what it comes down to. The fact that I'm not on payroll, I have not been on payroll in 15 years here. So we're talking about giving, you're not talking about me. We're talking about maintaining the church so that we can keep going and have a place for our kids. But you know what? I love the fact that you can't fire me. I'm going to preach the word of God. I ain't afraid of anything. I'm not afraid. They're like, oh, I'm not going to give. So David can't do this. David can't do that. Man, I'm not getting nothing anyways. So I'm going to preach the word of God the way the word of God says it. And that gives me a freedom to do that. But I believe the biblical teaching is solid here. So if you're going to jump ship and go somewhere else and have the same issues, might as well just change the course of the direction, give here so we can continue to have biblical teaching. And you know, maybe I'm biased, but I think our staff is amazing. Our leaders are awesome. Our worship team sings to Jesus. I think we're an amazing church. I think there's something different here. There's something special here that God is doing. I believe that with all my heart. But we need to make up our mind. Are we going to play music like the band on the Titanic until we just hit the iceberg and then sink? I put Sharon on a piece of wood and tell her I love her and then just slip into oblivion. I think Jack would have fit on there. He's a skinny guy. He would have fit. Nah. What? Or are we going to change the course once and for all from this point forward? Amen. Thank you. This building doesn't stay open by itself. The lights, the insurance, the children's ministry, missions, outreach, benevolence. You know, we have never charged for anyone's funeral of a member of this church. You know, how many know how funerals cost? Thousands. Discipleship materials and ministry to families. families, all of that stuff costs money because giving, guys, giving isn't paying God. Giving is partnering in ministry. Let me say this, though. We steward every dollar seriously here. I am not ashamed to say those chairs are used. Everything out there is used. Matter of fact, somebody gave us these pallets of wood that Abraham built this stuff. We didn't go buy that wood.

That's a lot of money to buy that wood. There's a brother that actually worked at a pallet yard and he says, hey, man, my boss wants to throw these pallets of wood away. Is there any way you could use them? Heck, yeah. We painted this church with paint that was given to us or some people donated to us. Yeah, this church does not have one single credit card because I don't believe in having a church living beyond its means. For what? To compete with other churches? That doesn't matter. It might be used, but it's ours. The leaders are accountable here. We are accountable. The leaders are accountable. The financial decisions aren't made up by one person. It's something we think about and really dwell on it because everything matters. So you're not giving into advancing somebody's ministry, you're giving into advancing ministry not into advancing somebody's personality. Makes sense? I'm not interested in getting something from you. I want something for you. This, this beautiful thing that we have. I want you to hear my heart and like I said, it's not about getting something from you. There's a big difference in that. I'm going to be honest. If all I wanted was your money, there were probably other ways to do it. If all I wanted was your money, this would simply be a financial conversation, but it's not. It's a discipleship conversation.

Jesus talked about money more than any, more than almost any other subject. Jesus did. Why? Because he understood something that we often forget. Our wallet is directly connected to our heart. Matter of fact, Jesus says where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. Notice he doesn't say your treasure follows your heart. He says your heart follows your treasure. So God isn't after your bank account. He's after your heart. He's after your heart. You know, being generous, generosity, it matters because when you give, it's, you're training to, you're training your heart to trust God. Let me, I'm going to give you some examples of what I mean by that because every single act of generosity, you are saying, Lord, I trust you more than I trust my possessions. Because here's the thing. Money has a way of making promises and maybe you didn't realize that. Maybe you never thought of it this way and I hope that this, like you're never going to unsee it now, that that money is, has a way of making promises. I'll give you a few instances. It promises security. Oh man, if I just get money, I'll have security. It promises comfort. Man, if I have some money, man, I'll just be super comfortable. It promises control. Man, if I could just have money, I could control my destiny. If I just had money, it promises independence. I don't have to depend on nobody. I got my money. So in essence, you're living in a way where money is making you promises.

But let me tell you, money is a terrible savior. Money cannot save you. Money cannot save you. Only Christ can provide true security, true peace, true independence, and hope. So when we learn to give, we're not making God richer. What did we read? He owns it all anyways. But what we are doing is breaking the grip that money can have on our lives. Money is a tool. That's all it is. You know, and when some people might hear this message on giving, and you're immediately thinking, hopefully right now you're not, but maybe somebody is, is, man, all the church wants is my money. But let me be honest, man. If all we needed was money, there's easier ways to raise money. funny than preaching the Bible. There is. What I want is for us to experience the freedom that comes from trusting God. Just trust Him. I want you to discover that being generous, it changes the giver as much as it blesses the receiver. There are more people in Modesto that need to hear this message or these messengers or this type of ministry. There's more children that need those classrooms. There's more young adults and youth that need to hear what they're being taught. I want your children to grow up watching parents who worship God with every area of life, not just with songs on Sunday. I want you to know the joy of partnering with what God is doing instead of merely just observing it. And you know, yeah, giving keeps the lights on. It does. It supports ministries. It feeds families. It disciples children. It serves our community. It makes ministry possible. But here's the thing. Those things are the result of generosity, not the reason for generosity. Those are the results of being generous. The reason is that it's worship. Okay, everything in service is there for a purpose. We have a five-minute countdown, and then we have some worship songs, and then we have some

announcements, and then we have the tithing offering, and then we have the sermon, and then we have the altar call. And once a month, we have baptisms. And once a month, we have communion like we're going to do today. And so, in essence, we're not trying to bring you out of your home, come all the way over here on a Sunday just to do things just for nothing. Everything has a purpose. But here's the thing. We all get the worship. Okay, that's unto the Lord. The sermon, that's unto the Lord. Communion, that's unto the Lord. Baptism, that's unto the Lord. Altar calls unto the Lord. But somehow, we think giving is not unto the Lord. That is part of the service, too. That's a part where we can worship. That is a moment where we can do it unto the Lord. It's unto God. Why? Because we want to continue doing what it is we're doing. We don't want the ship to sink. The enemy wants your heart attached to temporary things, all of us. So, I want to ask this question. I'm not asking you to think about what this church wants from you. I'm asking you a question. Lord, what do you want from me, Lord? How can I do my part? Because I don't want to just play music until this thing just crashes. I'm tired, Lord. It took me so long to find a place that I feel truly teaches you, and I can't just stand back and let this thing sink. The blueprint, building the vision together. So, what is the vision? What is the vision? I mean, sometimes people ask, and it's like, what is the vision? But how do we tie it up? And what is the vision? Let's say you're asking, you're like, okay, if I join Planet Fitness, I know what my vision is when I'm paying my $25. So, what's my vision here? What's the deal here? And I'm going to tell you this, is we are not called to be just another church in Modesto. I say that with complete confidence. We are called to raise up powerful believers in this house. We are raising up prayer warriors that are really going to shake the kingdom of darkness in this house. I'm not talking about just prayers, or just this and that, or just being loud. I'm talking about prayer warriors that understand what the word of God says and will shake and quake the kingdom of darkness. This is the vision of what we want here. We're going to teach you your identity over and over and over in the word of God. I believe that is crucial for you to understand your identity so you will walk in the power of the Holy Ghost. This is not a church where you're going to come and see me or Pastor

Angel lay hands on the sick and they're going to recover. We're going to teach you how to do it. And that is something we've been talking for years, but we need to do it with purpose. Where you will walk in power. We want to raise up pastors and leaders. I know I've been saying that and we're going to do it because this is the vision. Because if we're going to turn the ship, then this is more about than just money. This is about, okay, okay, we're not going to hit the iceberg, but are we going to just aimlessly go somewhere else? Where are we going? What's the direction? This is the direction. We're going to raise up pastors and leaders. We don't want to just attend a place, we want to build. And once you show that you are serious in this house and you take your six discipleship classes, then I promise you we will seriously pour into you to help you become who God has called you to be. You know in the book of Acts, disciples were taken to the Sanhedrin, to the spiritual leaders, and these are just fishermen. They were just regular people. I think if the Bible was now, they'd be from Modesto. And they're standing there in what would be like a Supreme Court and they were preaching Jesus and they got arrested. And then Peter started talking. He started talking to these Supreme Court religious leaders. And it was interesting because Peter was not eloquent in voice. He didn't have a huge vocabulary. He was not educated or anything. But you know what the Sanhedrin said? They're like, you talk as if you have been by Jesus. You sound like Jesus. I don't know. That is a compliment. So why am I bringing that up? Because in 2026 when you walk in power, when you know your word, and people are gonna say, hmm you sound like you go to house of rest. Can you imagine? You go lay hands on the sick, casting out devils, preaching his word, staying in context of your word, understanding. Because so many people say this, oh man, Jehovah Witness, they know their Bibles. Let's flip that around and say, man, you know your Bible. You must attend house of rest church. That's what I'm talking about. Or we sing songs until we sink. Or we're gonna turn this church in the direction that the Lord has planned for us. But if we're gonna turn this thing, what we are saying is we're gonna be givers. We're gonna support. We will step in. We will do our part. We will build. We will build the storehouses of

this church so we can do what it is that we need to do. So as I wrap this up, I'm gonna ask you the question I asked everyone else. Are we gonna play music until we hit? Are we gonna change the direction of this church once and for all, and be who we're called to be ever since the beginning? And we will be a beacon of light in the city of Modesto. And you will be raised up and taught in the way you're supposed to be. And you will be discipled in the way you're supposed to be. And you will be men and women of God where people will say and know that you are here in a place that teaches the Bible and what the Word of God says, that believes everything that the Word of God says. And we're gonna support and not just be completely almost sinking and almost sinking and almost sinking. We're gonna change the direction of this thing. And in a year from now, you will see what God is gonna do in this church. And you will see what God is gonna do in your family. And you're gonna see what God is gonna do in your children. And you're gonna see what God is gonna do in Modesto. And more people are gonna start to hear from other cities. And people are gonna come and pastors are gonna come and say, man, what are you guys doing here in Modesto? Teach us! And we're gonna go back to this day right now. And we're gonna say, you know what? On what's today? November? Not November. August 2nd. Third? Are you throwing gang signs? Oh, third. I thought Al was... Oh, man. Okay, the second. We're gonna say everything turned around. August 2nd, 2026. And you're gonna be able to give testimony. Because you're gonna meet other people with their churches are struggling. And you're gonna say, you know what? We were headed in the same way. We were gonna about to sink and we were gonna lose this whole thing. But you know what? On August 2nd, everything turned around. And look now. Look what God has done. And if he did it for us, then he can do it for you. That's gonna be the testimony. So who wants to sing until we sink? Who wants to turn this thing around? 15 years Amen Guys, this wasn't easy for me to deliver

It's not comfortable But I appreciate all of you Because I just wanted to share my heart and I wanted to share the direction of this church And I don't want to give up. I want to keep going. I want to keep going I want everything that God has for each and every one of us I want to see everything that God has for you and all of it be fulfilled and all of us do this together That we can come together. Do you realize that we are so strong in so many things? This is the one thing that we're we're we're we're Not so good at but we can turn that around From now on and all of us do our part and I'm not talking about I know some of you are in hard situations Hard problems. I'm not talking about that. You do what you can because the Bible says that he loves a cheerful giver and he's gonna honor you remember the woman gave two pennies and Jesus saw and there was a rich man that put a lot of money into it and the and the Disciple said Jesus look the rich man put a lot, but she only put two pennies and Jesus says She gave more Because the rich man gave out of his abundance but she gave the only two pennies that she had so in the kingdom she gave more and Some of you are in different ways of your life, but I'm telling you I promise you that when you give out of your heart Whatever it is that you give it if it truly is out of your heart God is gonna honor you for it He's gonna honor you. I thank you in Jesus name. So according to Luke 22 19 it says he took the bread and gave thanks and broke it and gave it to them Saying this is my body given for you do this in remembrance of me. So Lord, I pray for this bread in the name of Jesus Amen, let's eat together Thank you Lord open the juice You you know the juice represents his blood represents a new covenant a new contract because up until that time they would kill animals and the shedding the blood of the animals for the sins of the people but Jesus was about to shed his blood and he said something he says this is a new covenant

I'm doing something brand new and he says so what he did was say something new is going to happen and I'm going to say because of this sermon because of this message because of this direction because we are not going to hit that iceberg so how about this as we take it we're saying Lord not only is this a new covenant for what you did on the cross for us but this is a new covenant a new direction and the direction his church is going to go from now on Lord in the same way after the supper he took the cup saying this cup is a new covenant in my blood which is poured out for you Lord I pray for this juice in the name of Jesus as we drink together thank you Lord thank you Lord thank you Lord thank you Lord thank you Lord change the direction of our lives Lord God change the direction of our marriages Lord God change the direction of our children Lord God change the direction of our jobs Lord God change the direction of our businesses Lord God change the direction in which I worship change the direction in which I pray change the direction of house of rest Lord God that a year from now we will look back Lord God and we will see that we didn't hit the iceberg because you have greater things for us thank you Lord if there's anybody here you've not surrendered your life to the Lord today's the opportunity the day of salvation is today tomorrow's not promised if that is you I want you to come up quick don't think about it right now we're going to surrender our life to the Lord right now right now right now today's the day of salvation what are you waiting for right now can you imagine to say man I gave my life to the Lord right when we were about to hit the iceberg I gave my life to the Lord on August 2nd the day everything changed and if that is you I want you to repeat after me if you're watching through your screen repeat after me there's no specific prayer but I will guide you and say Lord God I repent of all my sins I believe you died on the cross and after three days you rose in power take out my heart of stone and give me a brand new heart bring your spirit upon me from this day forward in Jesus name amen amen amen let's give the Lord a hand let's give the Lord a hand amen I want to open these altars let's come man I want you to be at the altar because I want you to remember this day as we worship God and trusting in God come up to the altar let's start this thing over let's reset this thing we're not going to hit the iceberg and if you're in accordance with that I want you to come up so we can see that we are going to do this thing together blessed assurance
