There's a place for you to worship, learn, serve, grow, and become everything God has called you to be. Thank you for joining us at House of Rest Church, Modesto. We are a Grace International Church, part of a global family of more than 5,000 churches worldwide. Welcome home. (audience applauds) - Good morning again, everyone. Man, Jesus is here. His presence is filling the room, and it's just such an honor. My name is Jennifer, and it is a true privilege and honor to bring you your announcements. One thing I love about this church is, Jesus is the senior pastor of this house. Yes, he is. So let's give it up for Jesus. (audience applauds) Yeah, yes.
He is the senior pastor, and today we have a special speaker, and I'm excited to hear from you, brother. Our announcements today are short and sweet. We are doing discipleship class number five, immediately following the service, and it's titled "Daily Living." So we're gonna get in there, learn how to live daily as a disciple for Jesus Christ. It's in the PLBS class immediately following the service, and because announcements are so short and sweet, we're gonna give you a little bit extra time to stand up and meet and greet someone. So we're gonna do 30 seconds to get up and get moving. (laughs) And 30 seconds to go out of your way and hug someone's neck. Make a newcomer feel welcome, say hello to someone that you know, introduce yourself to someone you don't know. Pando, adobo, we're so glad you're tuning in. We love you guys. How many of you are not blessed today? Okay. How many of you are blessed this morning? [ Cheering and Applause ] How many of you have ever in your life not been blessed? I much rather be blessed. Amen. I'm Pastor David, his sister Sharon are traveling for the next few days. They're out of town and so you're stuck with me. Sorry, but I apologize ahead of time, I do and I don't. But at this time, guys, we want to pick up our ties and our offerings. We want to remember all of our missionaries as well and all of them that are laboring outside of this country that are doing the work and service that you and I are not able to do and through House of Rest and through Grace International, we are able to partner with them and able to give and we're able to help them to build the kingdom. That's the important part, build the kingdom. So we want to make sure that we give for those of you that are able to give, for those of you that are visiting here for the first time, if you're here for the first time,
lift your hand, if you're here for the very, very first time, if you've never been here before, one, amen. Anyone else, one, two, we welcome you, we welcome you. Three, I say, Israel's never been here before. Because he's a new man, renewed every day. That's exactly what it is. But we want to be able to, we give $3 and it's to three different missionaries. It's basically a third of a cup of Starbucks. It's not even a full cup. And so, but if you're willing to help with us and be able to give to our missionaries who are doing incredible works all over the world, and at the same time, not forgetting and neglecting our house, because as we've said before, PG&E doesn't take hugs and handshakes, they only take money. And so the rent and everything else that we also have, if you can, for all of our members, this is to our members and our house and our family, to let's remember, and as you have been faithful, we want to continue to do that. If we can stand really quick so we can pray, after we pray, we're going to be collecting the offerings and the tides and our ushers have envelopes as well if you need to. There's also a mailbox there that goes straight to my house. No, I'm just kidding. But there's a mailbox there and you can drop in your ties and your offerings. There's also a QR code in the back of your seats. There's a different way, Zell, Cash App, PayPal, Venmo, and however you feel to give, you're able to give. So guys, let's go ahead and pray.
So Father, we thank you for this moment. We thank you for the opportunity to be here, to be with the people of God. Father, we thank you that we are able to give, because Father, you demonstrated that to us first by you giving your life towards us when we didn't ask for you. And neither did we seek after you. So Father, we thank you for the opportunity for those that are able to give, and those that are Lord God in a situation that they're not able to, we ask you to bless them and open a door of opportunity. We ask you Lord God to minister to their needs as well and their family. And, you know, there's, it's, I shared a little bit, we talked a little bit for those and the young adults. We talked a little bit about it on Wednesday. For those that were in the discipleship class last Sunday, we talked a little bit about it also. And I want to clear up some things because sometimes, you know, within Christianity, we say a lot of things. How many of you guys, let's be honest here. Can I ask you a question? How long have you been a Christian for 12 months or less? Anybody here 12 months or less? Yeah, 12 months or less. Okay, how about five years or less? 10 years or less? 20 years or less? Anybody 30 years or less? Okay. Can I ask you a question? Does, does, is there any time in your Christian walk or life with God that in the church, we say things that you still are like, I don't know what they're talking about.
Is there some words sometimes that we use and, you know, really fancy words and, you know, and, and we hear everybody else use it. And so we, Christian ease and so we use it because we think we're supposed to, you know, so we can fit in, you know. And yet we, we don't kind of grasp it. And I don't know if you guys realize this. I'm sure you do those online that are here. You know, in life you have to communicate and use words. It's really important. If you don't, you like draw, you like, you know, hand, you know, whatever, but there's a communication level. And if we're not communicating on the same page, how can we agree? Would you, if you're married here, I'm not going to open up a can of worms, but I'm just asking, I've been married. If you're married here, would you agree that you have to have a level of communication at home so things can somewhat run right? And when it doesn't run right, right, you know, then either you have to learn to work through it and grow or you blame one another. 'Cause I said it, well, that's not what you said, but that's what I meant. You know, we do that in the church a lot. We say a lot of things and we mean a lot. mean something. If not God wouldn't have given us His word. So it's important. So I want to talk today, I don't know if we can put the flyer up, yes. Oh, well, can you guys put up the Abraham, our Bible, our declaration, I'm sorry. There we go. Okay. If you can lift
up your Bible, if you have a paper Bible, lift it up, you have your cell phone lifted up. This is my Bible. It is God's word to me. My guide and my strength. I bring it ready to learn. I open it with faith in Jesus. I live it with courage. Without it, I grow a week with it. I grow strong today. I bring it, believe it and obey it in Jesus name. Amen. Amen. Now, now it fits right. Okay. Now, that's what was meant. Now it makes sense. Now we're ready. Okay. But guys, words are really important and understanding of words are really important. If not, how can we agree? Have you ever, have you ever started a job and they just brought you in and said, okay, go to work? No, they have an orientation. They explained to you what to do, what's going on and all these different things. And here's your options, here's your insurances. And let me ask you after that, those four hours of orientation, do you understand everything about the company? No, even if it's Amazon, you're like, I know you ship stuff, but I still don't understand everything. That's normal because we have to go over things over and over and over again. There's what they call a green message, a green light message. In other words, it's always green. Always speak about it. Always talk about it. Always have it on your lips. Always have it on your mind. Always have it on your heart. Speak about it. Talk about it. Guys, if you have kids, you know, don't say something one time and expect for them to follow that. Do your kids clean your room at one time? That'd be great. Do they clean their, their, their room after you say one time? For those of you, man, I acknowledge, I just applaud you. But seldom and especially when they're younger, pick up the stuff. And then all of a sudden I'm sleepy. Ezra, I'm hungry. Oh, you really do. You haven't wanted to eat all this time. Now I told you to clean up. Now you want to eat. Guys, because we have to come and understand, guys, that God put us in a place that we can be prepared to prosper in every single area of our life. God didn't put you in a situation that you couldn't prosper. God didn't put you in a situation that you couldn't be blessed. And when I say prosper, I'm not just talking finances, talking life. You know, there's a lot of people that money-wise, okay, that's great. I'd love to have their money, but I wouldn't want their life. One of the things you hear me say is, I don't, I'm not judging people by their life. I want to know their eternity. See, if I can trust your eternity, okay, then I'll hear you. I'll follow you. But if I don't, if I can't trust your eternity, I don't know where we're going. I'd rather
not go that route. But Paul says in 1 Thessalonians, chapter 5 and 23, says this, he says, now may the God of peace himself sanctify you completely. And may your whole spirit, soul and body be preserved blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. How many of you would love to see the Lord face to face and him to say, wow, you are blameless. He's given Join us a very important key here. spirit and soul. Your spirit that is of God, you are more spirit than anything else. When you and I pass from this life into the next, our spirit will be with the Lord, or not. I hope that none of us here are online, but your soul will live forever. Whether you live for God or don't live for God, if you reject the gospel, whatever, you're going to live forever. We're going to live forever. Energy science has taught that. Energy doesn't go away. You can't get rid of energy. And guess what is in you? Energy. So there's three choices. Or I'm sorry, three areas. Spirit, soul, body. You are a spirit. You have a soul. Your soul means mind, will and emotions. When you're reading in the Bible and it talks about your soul, it says your mind, it's talking about your mind, your will and your emotions. So, this is your spirit. That's a great looking spirit. I'm just saying. This is your soul. This is your body. Can everybody see that there? Bailey, do I need drumming? I'm going to do that. I'm going to do that. I'm going to do that. I'm going to do that. I'm going to do that. You have a spirit that has a soul that lives in a body. That is you. That is you everywhere, all the time, at all times. Before Christ, you had a spirit, but your spirit was dead. It had no life in it. It had no ability to sustain itself in the DNA of the spiritual towards God. God had to recreate your spirit. He had to give you a new one because where what you did have prior to was leading to death. Did you know that death can survive and death eats? Let's look at cancer. Does cancer eat? It eats a human body. And it survives off of death. Death survives off death. So, we have a world that is living, thinking they're existing, but what they're doing is eating their life away. Their spirit is doing that. And their mind, will and emotions do not know better. You come in. You came in out of the world into the church. You hear the gospel. You hear it. It's wonderful. It's incredible. You think like, oh my gosh, this is the best thing I've ever heard. And then you're walking it out for 60 days and then going, oh my God. This is hard. You know why? I'll tell you a quick story. There was a pastor that told a story
of a young man that got saved and he was an addict. He got saved and set free. And for about three months, man, he was faithful to the church at the altar praying, helping anyway that he possibly could. And then one day he disappears. Without all of a sudden just six months gone, ghosted the church. He comes in after six months, a mess. I know that's never happened to anyone here, but a mess. He comes in and sits down with the The pastor, the pastor's there. how horrible he feels, and how hard it's been and what he's gone through and all this stuff, living in the street, eating out of garbage cans, all this stuff and just pouring it out. And his pastor looked at him and he just clapped his hand. He was like, "Man, I'm so excited." (chuckles) Hold on, pastor. I'm telling you my pain and you're excited. I'm super excited. Why would you be excited about my pain? Because nine months ago, when you got here, you had no remorse. Nine months ago, when you got here, you had no conviction. Nine months ago, when you walked into the church, you didn't feel a thing. And now you do. And see, that thing that you feel now is trying to come back, is trying to come out of you because God puts something new in you. Your mind, will, and emotions just hasn't lined up with what God has done. That's the problem.
So the scripture calls it and says to renew your mind. See, once we get our mind renewed in our thinking and stop having stinking, thinking, then we can begin to line up with what God has already placed because He placed the foundation for us to succeed, not fail. He didn't place anything in you to fail. He placed in you something new to succeed, to win. Did you know that you're a winner? For the rest of everyone else? Did you know you were a winner? (indistinct) We're gonna prove it to you. You're a winner. Look at your neighbor, Sam, a winner. (indistinct chatter) My winner. I don't care if they didn't brush their teeth, they're still winning, just brush their teeth later. (audience laughs) It's your winner. If you're watching online and you're incarcerated and you're watching this on Pando and Edovo, don't allow this system. Listen to me, hear me. The world has told us for so long, so much, how destructive and how ignorant and in every area of our life, the neighborhood, the body of the homies, they don't want you to succeed. Why?
Because if you move up, then what does that say about them? Do you understand the mentality? Some of the people that we still want to hang around with is what's pulling you back and you don't have the guts to cut it off. God cut your old spirit off. Now let's do the same. Some of us need new friends. (indistinct chatter) Some of us, my God, need a new family for a minute. Some of y'all gonna, if you go to that Thanksgiving place, Thanksgiving dinner coming up, Christmas time. And it's all negativity, dope. It's all negativity and anger. It's all negativity. You're like, you have a pastor, I just, it's my family. No, no, no, no, no. You were born into a new one. You weren't left as an orphan. Am I telling you, don't love your parents or love your siblings, I'm not saying that. I'm saying, go get yourself right so you can go be a light. That's what I'm saying. And some of us need to have the courage to do that. And some of us need to be able to hear that. And guys, some of us need to hear correction from others and not get offended and be so soft. If you're a believer, you have a new spirit. It's called the spirit of God.
Your mind, your will, and emotions, maybe you don't know how that works and breaks down. But I want to set you the path and I want to give you some tools today. I want you to be able to take this with you. Because what good is a sermon if you can't take it home and use it? What good, if you're a contractor or any, what good is going on Home Depot and then looking at the tools and then going back to the work site without having them? We're like, "Well, I'm a contractor." What were the things I got to build this fence? Okay, let me go to Home Depot and see what tools they got. Oh, did you buy some new tools? No, I just went to go see what Home Depot has. No, we don't do that. That makes sense. But yet in the church, we have no problem with that. Let me come in, see what's on the shelf. Go empty handed, and then all week long, kicking rocks, going, man, this is hard. I don't understand why I can't build that countertop. Well, you never bought the material. I don't understand why I can't screw that down. You don't have a drill. (audience laughing) You don't, have you ever seen someone put something under a table because it's imbalanced? And that thing, whatever they put underneath there
was never intended to actually be used for that way. Like sugar packets. (audience laughing) Cardboard, cardboard. Well, one time, I seen the head of a hammer. A little hammer, it didn't have a handle. It was just the head of the hammer. Underneath one of the legs, it was like a little small one. I remember, I thought it was the craziest thing, and I seen it, and that always stuck in my mind. You know, some of us looking at our lives and we're going, no, I'm fine. Look, God's using me. No, no, no, no, no, see what you're not understanding is this, that table is using the head of the hammer. Yes, it is, but is the head of the hammer's purpose for that. See, we have stuff that we're putting in places out of purpose. We have people in relationships in our lives out of purpose. They're there, they're the sugar packet and keeping it balanced, that doesn't mean that it's a working system. We have to be able to put this into, to make it fit. So our mind are willing, our emotions. See, this is the way it works, guys. The Spirit of God gave you a new spirit. Now it's our job to do this part. Stop speaking negative to your kids. Stop speaking negative to your spouse.
Stop speaking behind your boss behind his back. Stop cheating him, stop robbing from him. Stop taking naps during work when he's paying you by the hour. Stop cheating on documents and paperwork to get to be benefited. And then we wonder, oh man, life is happening at us. No, life is not happening at you as if life did something to you. Life is happening because of you in the choices that we make. See, we say that to our kids. But as parents, we don't wanna live by that. But the reality is, guys, life ain't happening at you. Life is happening because of the choices you and I have made. And some of the choices were a long time ago. And then we wanna kick rocks and say, well, it ain't fair. Fair's where they judge pigs. I don't find fair in the Bible. I find just, I find righteousness. I find redemption. I find repentance. What good is it for me to mentally abuse my wife? And then when it's time, whatever, and somebody, another brother confronts me and I say to her, why provide? Do I provide for her spirit? Do I provide for her soul? Or am I just providing for her body? Am I providing so she can eat and have a roof?
But am I flourishing in her emotions? Am I flourishing her in her mind and her will and her aspirations and her dreams? Am I cultivating that? Am I actually putting good soil here? Am I lifting her spirit up and reminding her of how victorious she is in Christ and how great she is as a victor in Him? Or am I just being proud of doing what, as every man's supposed to do? What about the other areas? Wives, are we just providing for your husband physically? What about his soul, his mind, his will and emotions, filling the support and the aspirations and the connections and the dreams? To let him know that he's the guy. Are we pouring a word into him? Are we praying over one another couples? This is huge. Parents, are we just providing for our kids to have a roof and eat? You know, they say it takes 75 positive statements to nullify one negative. Think about that. 75, I have to say 75 times you pass around, you're great, before I even zero out the one time when I said something negative to you. Are you feeding your kids soul? Their mind, their will, their emotions. And then we're angry when she's 15 and 16, when he's 17 and 18, and going, man, those darn kids. They're running around doing everything I told them. I told them what my life was.
They know my story, but did you feed them? Did you lift them up? Did you encourage them? Did you get in there with them? You know, Jesus said something very important in the Gospel of John, and he said this. He said that the Holy Spirit will bring to your remembrance those things in which I have said. He will bring to your our remembrance those things in which I have said. You know what it doesn't say? It doesn't say I will put in you everything I said. Don't say that. Jesus didn't say when they're born again, I'm going to put the whole Bible in them. And man, I'm just going to pull it out. Those scriptures, it's just going to be there. Nope. You know whose job it is, is to put it in you? You. See, some of us are going through stuff right now, and you're going, "God, please, please help me. God, I'm going to fast, I'm going to starve, I'm going to whatever God helped me." And the Holy Spirit's like, "Man, all I'm pulling out of you is Netflix and Amazon and HBO. I got nothing good to pull out of you because you ain't putting nothing good in you." And the Holy Spirit's like, "Man, you're making this hard for me. I'm trying to help you. Trust me. I'm scraping at the bottom of the bucket that one verse you read three months ago in the Bible study you were listening to half ways while you were texting five months ago. I'm trying to pull that out, and the only scripture that I can come up with was Jesus wept.
I don't know how that's going to help you in your situation. That's the only scripture I can find in you. See, to change this, you got to put it there so the Holy Spirit can pull it out of you to use it because if he can pull it out of you in your spirit, guess what? It will change your mind, your will, and your emotions, and your body will follow. Some of us are struggling with what our bodies do. No, no, no, no. A body is just a slave that follows what your mind, will, and emotions are telling it to do. Oh, the devil made me do it. No, he didn't. You did. Well, she made me angry and I hit her. No, you did. Well, he made it. I'm tired of him doing this, so I, yeah, I said that to him. No, honey. You said that. Don't blame it on anybody else. See what is in you? It will come out of you. It will come out. There's no other way around it. So can we agree that we need to work on this? We need to work on understanding that the Spirit of God, I'm going to read a scripture to you, it says, therefore, is anyone in Christ? He is a new creation. That word new creation in the Greek literally means a new type of species that has never existed before. Do you understand who you are when you came into Christ?
That you're a new creation and the devil doesn't even recognize you anymore unless you tell him your name? Do you understand that? How powerful that is? When you're a new creation and you're in him, you're hidden in Christ. Now if you choose to go, I'm here. Let's get it right. It's okay. We have time today to start today to get it right. If you -- guys, if you're household -- you know, one of the things I am so blessed with, mom, dad, stand up, please, real quick. Dad, I'm talking to you. I have only one dad. My parents, how long have you guys been married, mom? 63 years. I know how long my mom has been saved because she was baptized six months pregnant with me, so 48 and a half years, about to be 49 years. My mom has been saved serving God for over 49 years. My dad, how long after I've been married, just a few years. I don't have any -- really, I don't have any memories. I think I have, like, mental pictures of stuff, but I can't, like, prove that because I was little, and so I didn't -- I didn't have that. Thank you. You know, when you were born -- guys, you were born a winner -- did you know there was billions and billions of little seeds trying to win? [laughter] And yet, you won, and you didn't even know what you were doing. You were just trying to win. You didn't even know, and in the beginning of your own life, whether you're a winner, you won.
Everybody else lost. You won. It's not a mistake. You won. I want you to go home -- don't do it now. Just -- when you go home, just hold on. Wait, first hear what I'm saying. [laughter] All right, let me finish the sentence. Brothers, let me finish the sentence. [laughter] Some of y'all got it. Weirdly excited. Go home on YouTube and look up when the sperm breaks through an egg under a microscope. They discovered this. I want to say 2013 or 2011 for the first time. And when they seen it under a hyper microscope and when that egg broke through that layer in a microscope, in a lab, scientists were recording it and discovered a flash of light. Boom. Hit. And immediately, the outer wall of the egg sealed. Nobody else could get in. Do you understand what took place in your life, even things you don't remember that God was working and doing on your behalf, to have you here right now in this place? To have you sitting here and understanding, I'm a winner. You didn't start off as a loser. You started off as a winner. So why have we allowed the enemy to put that in our mind and culture and society and parents and siblings and friends and family and systems and government and economy? Why have we allowed that for us to believe that you're stuck where you're at?
If you were first made a winner, you know, I was blessed to be in the Rocha house. Me and my brothers can all say this. We didn't do dumb stuff, Pastor Al, because my parents lived the life that was chaotic. No, we can own it all by ourselves of the dumb stuff we did, apart from what my mom and dad did. They raised us right, Pastor Al. Wake up Saturday mornings, and my dad, you know, our Sunday mornings depend if he didn't work Saturday, and he'd be blasting Don Francisco. mom was making tortillas she's making breakfast that was our life went to church three four times a day I mean a week as a kid and then me being the youngest I had no choice I don't understand that parents giving kids choices hmm oh me you don't want you don't want to go you're 12 you go where I go well that ain't fair okay well they haven't opened up the fair this in the county yet but when they do honey I will take you to a fair you I'll get your corn dog - and popcorn but my house ain't a fair you know we never cussed in our house I didn't say I didn't cuss I said we didn't cuss in the house my brother David who did everything that he did in his life in the music and everything else I will never forget a time I was probably six seven years old and my brother would we didn't we couldn't have a radio in the house because my dad didn't my parents didn't want us playing worldly music we didn't have a VCR in the house because he didn't trust four boys and what they'd watch we didn't have cable you know we had channel three channel six channel 10 channel 13 19 40 42 and 58 I was the good stuff sometimes channel nine if the wind was hitting right and I'd see the Bay Area games I get to watch Golden State so we had well that's that's rough and some of us hand phones to our kids and we never checked we never look we never bother I was so blessed to be in that environment I was so blessed that you know one time I was I was about seven years old eight years old and David got one of my dad's records and he was playing it on his record player and then David was trying to learn how to scratch my dad's record player oh trust me that wasn't the worst
part they had none to do with that my dad walked in coming home from work and we didn't hear him because we were playing secular music and my dad walked in and broke the record he's it was his record but he was so mad he was so angry breath angel because we knew the rules and we didn't follow it I remember that I remember my dad I was sharing this to those that went to Southern California the Grace Conference we were out there on the pool we were talking and if I don't know if you remember this or not I was probably eight years old and I remember one time you told me in the rocks guys we live on the country I've been to my mom and dad's house it's on the cuts it's on the country we were country boys growing up and it was a rocky road full of rocks and one day I'm sitting out there my dad says come here me home and I said okay he says me don't take off running why just take off running okay so I take off running I'm like eight nine years old I'm running by the angels fast as I could and then all of a sudden I heard other steps behind me and right in the presence of me turning around my dad football tackles me in the rocks I didn't say he grabbed me he tackled me brother in the rocks and what do you think a nine-year-old's gonna do I cried very confused what was that you know my father told me I don't know if you remember this by never forgot this this stuck in my heart he said you're a boy your strength doesn't match a man's strength son you ain't grown up yet intimidated me not in a bad way but it understood placement. I remember my father taking out a I don't know where you stand on guns but this is our house I'm telling you our family story we had a handgun and I was probably nine or ten around the same age we had there was a river, a ditch, an irrigation ditch and my dad had a handgun and he pulled it out and he said me don't hold it and so he said I'm going to help you so he held my
hands on that on his 22 pistol and he said that they're shooting in the ditch shooting in the mud okay and with his hands over my hands I shot it I didn't need a class on gun safety after that I felt the power and the intimidation of that gun through the hands of my father as after we shot it he looked at me and he said me don't you don't ever touch my gun do you feel how strong that is yeah but if I'm not home and your brothers aren't home and it's you and your mother defend this house I was nine well that's really young what mindset are you raising them in depends on that I never forget that you know life isn't coming at you life what you're the life you're living is life because of you in the choices you and I have made and some of those choices we need to work through we need to get out but I have I have five questions I want to work through here let me these are five questions if you can write it down every human being ask these questions what I'm going to write what I'm going to show you question number one the world is asking this question who am I every Christian every non-Christian would you agree that right now in society today guys that
that's a very big question you have kids acting like animals and parents saying that's okay you have you have within the culture boys saying it's okay if you're a girl listen listen the question that everybody is asking across the board is who am I what is my identity understanding who you are and your value who am I I'm saying this because your kids are asking this question whether it's to you or to someone else or they're getting it through social media their answers they're asking the question who am I five questions that all human beings are asking and it's a question of value what is your value who are you who am I you don't have to raise your hand if I'm gonna ask this but how many of you guys have dreams and aspirations since you were a kid that you never touched you never fulfilled you always wanted to do and you ever have things or places you always wanted to go you always wanted to see I want it to be this I want to be that I want to do this I want to do that dreams I want to be an astronaut. Give me, give me a couple. What did you want to be when you were a kid? How many of you want to be a power ranger? A nurse.
How many of you ever wanted to be a nurse when you were little girls? One. Okay. A lawyer. Who wanted to be a lawyer when they were little? Okay. Are you attorneys now? Okay. A mother. Okay. We all had different dreams and aspirations. But somebody came along and killed your dream. What did they tell you? What did they say to you? How did they treat you? How were you convinced? Who am I? What is my value on this earth? What am I supposed to do? Why am I here? Am I just here to work a job, go to work, pay some bills? Not all of them. What am I here for? Number two. Where am I from? You know, you watch the news and this is the biggest question. You watch the news. See, like we do our podcasts and everything else. And you know, everyone's want to talk about La Raza. Everyone's want to talk from Mexico. I'm from Central America. I'm from Africa. I'm from Europe. I'm from -- and everyone's thinking this is the most important question. No, that's question number two. If you don't know who you are, you'll never know where you're from. Everyone's asking the question, where am I from? But no one's thinking through the process to go, who am I? Does my skin color really matter that much? Well, it matters because they're not like me. Who? Who's they? Who's the they you have in your mind? Churches fall into this too. How many times have you gone to a church that's actually completely just filled with all kinds of beautiful colors? I think we have we have a good start here. We have some very wettitos. We love you. You're us. That's beautiful. How many of you would love to open up a crayon box and all of the crayons are brown? I take that back in the heartbeat. I want different shades. I want green. I want yellow. I want red. I want blue. I want orange. I want white. I want black. I want gray.
Everyone's fighting for this. Where am I from? That's an important question, but first, who am I? The second one has to do with origin. Understanding your source and where your life comes from. Where am I from? Who am I? First, let me answer number one. Genesis 1 and 27 says this. You were created in his likeness and in his image and you were given life. Well, I don't know if I believe in Jesus. You were still given life. I don't know if I'm a Christian. Okay? I get that. We all weren't born Christians until we were born again as Christians, as believers, followers of the way. Well, we came in this world. Who am I? You have value because God made you. Remember when you won? You don't remember it, but we were just talking about it a few minutes ago when you were. You won? You're the best swimmer of them all? Who am I? You're a winner. Why? Because God made you. It got made you. You were made in his likeness and in his image. Where am I from? Your origin. In the news and society and culture. You know what they're, they're, they're cheaping it down to? What country are you from? What language you speak? What flag you carry? You know how meaningless that is in the scope of scripture? It's worthless. That doesn't mean it's not important. Is it okay to be proud to be from El Salvador? Yes, that's okay. It's okay to be proud of your whatever country, Colombia, El Salvador, Guatemala, Mexico, any of the Caribbean countries, East, you know, whatever. And it is also okay to be proud that you're born as an American. It is okay. It's crazy that we have to actually make that statement in America. But it's, but it is. But that's not where you're from.
You were made by God and for his glory. Where are you from? Jesus said it best in Matthew 23 and 9. He says, do not call anyone on earth your father. For one is your father. He who is in heaven. Does that mean I can't call my dad father? No, that's not what it means. The Greek means source. My father is not my source. My heavenly father gave my father the ability to be in the process of me being born. But God is the source. Why is that important? Husbands, your wife is not your source. Wives, your husband is not your source. Families, your job is not your source. The system and welfare and everything else is not your source. Stop believing another source. Jesus said it. I'm going to repeat it. Don't call anyone on earth your source. For you have one source, your father who is in heaven. Stop blaming the president and the governor and everything else. And start believing the truth of your source. You are not a victim. You have a source. Maybe we haven't learned how to tap into our source, but we have a source. If you have an extension cord and it's not plugged in and you turn on a light through it and it doesn't turn on. Is it the extension cord's fault? No, it's just not plugged into the source.
If you're a non-Christian and you haven't placed your faith in Christ, my God, I invite you into the best source. But I have a feeling I'm speaking to a lot of Christians and let me remind you. Take the plug from out of the socket that has no electricity connected to it and go put it in the right source. We're frustrated at the wire and we never check the source. See, if I can understand who am I made by God, likeness and in his image, if I can understand where I'm from, why am I source? Here's the question, why am I here? Why am I here? To discover the reason that you exist in the contribution you were meant to make in this world. You were not here out of an accident. You were not here because mom wanted to plan an abortion and it didn't go through. And you're a mistake. You're not here because someone got raped and it was just a mistake. No. God breathed into you and created you. You came out of a source. Now the question is why am I here? Let me ask you a question. How are you changing the world? How are you changing your family? How are you changing the people around you? Are the people around you any better off with you in their life? Or are you part of what makes them struggle? We have to ask ourselves these questions. Parents, do we make our lives kids harder? Don't ask them, I'm saying the truth. You ask your kids when they're 14, "Oh, you're gonna make my life hard because you don't let me go out."
No. Have you set them on the right path? Have you put them in the right place? Have you structured the foundation and the environment to be there? Ephesians two and 10, God created you in Christ Jesus to walk in good works and be prepared. Isaiah 43 and seven, it says, "God created his people for his glory." Jesus said it this way, and John, I love this. Jesus is praying to the Father, and he says, "Father, the same glory you gave me I give to them." Think about that church. The same glory, brother, Jesus said to the Father, "That you gave me I'm giving to you." Not a different glory. He said the same glory, I give to the church, I give to my believers. Who am I made by God? I'm a winner. Where am I from? God is my source. Why am I here to bring him glory? Guys, let me ask you. I didn't ask you how often you go to church. I don't care how many Bible studies you attend. If you can close your eyes and picture, is there five people you have made a difference that have impacted their life and their life now is glorifying God?
How many people have you witnessed and shared the gospel to that they came to Christ? How many people have you discipled in your life that you can see now God moving in their life and they're growing and their marriage is restored, their household, and that Father is a good Father now. That Mother is a good Mother. I didn't say for three months, how about six years, 10 years, 15 years? If you're new in the kingdom, I get it. It'll take you some time. But that's what you're going for. Why am I here for that? Number four. What can I do? If God made me out of his likeness and in his image, if God is my source and I'm here to glorify him, then what can I do? Do you understand that word? It's talking about potential. You have unlimited potential. Do you know what potential means? It means what's your next? What do you want to achieve? Guys, the enemy has stolen so many dreams from us that we stop dreaming. Well, I don't know what to, I don't know my life is just the way that it is. No, it's that way because you stop being creative. It's that way because you stop dreaming.
It's that way because you stop believing. What's your dream? Well, I know you came from Florida a long ways, brother. And I see the growth, but I know this isn't it. What's your dream? What's your dream? Why are you here? What can I do? You know that word potential? They call it God has a name that the scripture calls in the same. Omni potent? Omni potential. Limitless potential. God says, call me limitless potential. So what do you want to see God do in your life? It's limitless. Well, I need to, I need a creative miracle. God says, okay, come to me and pull out of me, my unlimited potential. [BLANK_AUDIO] But God, I need something that nobody has ever seen. Right Moses? Yeah, so part the Red Sea. Because I have unlimited potential. God, I need a creative miracle Lord. I don't know how to pay my taxes. So maybe I can pull a coin out of the mouth of a fish. Unlimited potential. Well, I don't know God.
Everything's gone bad Lord, my husband's dead, my son is dead. And Jesus walks by a procession and touches the casket and that boy lives. Unlimited potential. But for potential to work, it needs a creative hand by faith to reach for it. Have you stopped reaching for his potential in your life? Have you stopped believing that God could reach your kids? Have you stopped believing that God could fix your marriage? Have you stopped believing for health and life and healing and finances? Have you stopped believing for that? Have you stopped believing for the dreams and the aspirations that God gave you as a young kid? And the last one. Where am I going? Let me ask you, if you knew, okay, if I told you right now, guys, there's a private jet in the parking lot and it will cost you a dime. We can stop and put gas as many times as we want to. Where do you want to go? How many of you would say series? Maybe to get your luggage? How many of you say Turlock or Manteca or Tracy? Yeah, Houston, which I just discovered that city a few years ago. I always thought people were talking about Houston for the longest time. But if you had a private jet sitting out there in the parking lot, a pilot there sitting there, it could take you anywhere. You can stop and put gas all you want as many times and you could take anybody you wanted to. Where would you go? Where? Hawaii. Hawaii. Okay.
All over. Who else? Greece. Who else? Where? Jerusalem. Where else? Amsterdam. Okay. Where else? Paris. Where else? In and out. And then you'd fly out right after you got in and out. You know what's crazy? The moment I mentioned that and you guys started saying that, everybody smiled. Before I said that, it was only a few smiles. But the moment you actually begin to say, "Where can I go? What am I doing?" And be creative. And to actually take a moment to go, "Let me step out of my mundane life and think of the possibility, all of a sudden it was a hundred smiles." Church we stop smiling, church we stop believing, parents. We stop having that drive. Only one last thing to you where I'm done here. I wrote this. This is for my business, but I'm going to read this real quick. I titled it Godly Ambition. I think as Christians we have lost ambition to have a better life because we've believed so many lies.
We forgot God was our source. We forgot what we can do. We forgot where can we go. We forgot why we're here. We forgot who you are. I'm going to read some things here and I'm going to end. Here are several reasons why ambition can fade in a believer's life. Some of these are going to sting. Don't show that it stings because they're showing that it's you. Just go like that. Yeah. Yeah. (audience laughing) your humble when reality is you don't believe God to do great things. We confuse humility and make we logically break things down in a reality. We just have small thinking. Stop confusing contentment. Well, I'm content with what I have with complacency because you don't want to get to work because you don't want to strive. You don't want to believe. You don't want to do. I'm not saying I'm not just talking finances. I'm talking family. I'm talking marriage. I'm talking relationships. Well, but, you know, my brother, he's just that way. Okay. I thought you stopped being that way. Stop confusing contentment with complacency. Number three. Oh, man. Sorry, Christians, but I got to say this one. Fear disguised as I'm just waiting on God. I'm just waiting for the Lord. No, the Lord is waiting for you. Well, I want that. I want to, you know, rebuild that relationship with my sister, but I'm just waiting on God. No, you're not. Oh, you're not. No, you're not. Put your pride down. Go say sorry and go fix it. Stop hiding behind spiritual words that have no meaning. Ministry is the only meaningful work. Well, I'm not a pastor. No, you're a believer. You're a son that supersedes any ministry position because I've met a lot of preachers that weren't sons. I'll let you chew on that one. I met a lot of pastors, pastor, we've been doing this a while, haven't we not? I've met some pastors that weren't that lost their way and weren't sons any longer. The highest level guys in life is be a son of God, be
a daughter of God. Don't confuse it. Bring more about dangers of success than the responsibilities of stewardship. Well, I don't know. They want to give me this raise. I don't know if I should take it. Why not? If it fits, if you can reach more people, if you can communicate with more people and stop complaining about, well, I'm just going to go work with Christians. Trust me, that ain't great either. Christians have attitudes too. I just want to be around Christians. No, be a Christian amongst the darkness and make it light. Stop looking for excuses. Lacking examples, and this is on leadership, not on you, but for your house, it's also for you as parents, lacking examples in practical training. Are you teaching your daughters? Are you teaching your sons? Are you having those conversations? Are you sharing with them of what they should do, shouldn't do and have those private conversations with them, not when they're 21, but starting those relationships and hugs and conversations when they're little so that when they're 14, they hear you. And the last one, we can stand to our feet. Stop confusing being exhausted for in reality. You're just discouraged. Why am I bringing this up? All of this. Guys, because it's the church, man, we don't realize how many non-truths we tell ourselves. I'm good pastor. Oh, how you do? I'm highly favored. Blessed and highly favored. And you know what? It is okay. I'm not saying to be negative. What I am saying is be honest. If you're going through a hard time. Are you a mind reader? Do you read minds? No. One of the things you'll notice when I'm here in the altar and I'm praying with some of you, I always ask you a simple question. What can I pray with you for? Why? Because I don't read minds. And sometimes the Holy Spirit doesn't tell me. So the best avenue for me to go is to ask you and if you're discouraged, brother, I need some strength. I need some help.
I need some wisdom. I don't know where to go. I don't know what to do. Can you pray with me? All of it. Yeah, you can take it. Thank you. All of this will zap your ambition from serving God, leading for God, and getting to know Him. So church, I want us to pray, and then we're going to do an altar call. Because guys, we can be in the church and even part of the kingdom. But if we lose our way in remembering that He's the source, we can be in the house and yet lost, I don't want us to be lost anymore. Let's close our eyes for a moment. Father, right now in the name of Jesus, Father, you prepared the environment for us to win. Father, like you did in creation, you created the waters and then you created fish. What you did in the air, Lord God, you created the sky and then you created the birds after. Father, you created the dirt and then you created trees and bushes. Father, you created the earth and then you put a man there to rule it. Father, you gave us this moment in our life, Lord God, that you have placed us in a season and in a moment that we can have victory. But Father, we need to get past some of the lives that we tell ourselves. Father, we need to have gratitude. And Father, I'm sorry. But God, if anyone in here has lost gratitude and is having a hard time just walking out, and grateful and you're battling through negativity and you're battling through your mind and your mouth just speaks it and you're just getting frustrated and you're just like, God, I don't know where this is coming from. I want to invite you to come. Be honest, if that's you come, if you're a sister, let's make sure that that sister's
not alone. Come. If it's a brother, come. If you're battling to them through some stuff in your life, I know everybody's life very perfect, but if you're struggling a little bit, it's okay. I don't mean you're sinning, it doesn't mean you're a backslider, it doesn't mean you're heading to hell. Just means you're struggling. So we got to get past some of these terms. If you need help, and that's who our faithful members that are here, can we connect? If you see a sister, can you connect with a sister? If there's a couple here that you are members of this church and you're part of our church, I want you to find someone and pray with them. Just poor love right now, Father, we thank you right now in the name of Jesus. We just speak life and strength and health. Father, some of our families are God, they're not sinning, they're not sin in the sense of something horrible being done wrong, they're just discouraged. Father, right now, we just speak life right now over everyone, every couple, over every single person, over every young adult, over everyone that's here right now. Father, we just speak life, Lord God, to remember that you omnipotent, Father, there is an unlimited potential in you. Let us not forget who we're connected to. The Father, whatever the need is financially, spiritually, relationally, health, Father right now that we just speak, Lord God, for grace and peace right now in the name of Jesus. And if you're watching online and you're here and you have I want to take this moment to invite you into the kingdom. And as a house, if we can just pray this prayer together, if you are not saved and you said, you know, I'm tired of living a life just without purpose, without focus, I want my, I want,
I need to get my family back. I need to get my life back. I need to get my marriage back. But I need God in my life. I want to invite you to pray this prayer with me. It's just a prayer, but pray it with me. Father, right now in the name of Jesus, I ask you, Lord God, to change my heart and come into my entire life. I open up every part of me so that you can come in and change every part of me. I need you in my home. I need you in my life. I need you for my future. I need you in my present. I accept the price that you paid, that you died on a cross for me, that you were buried in a grave for me, and that you rose on the third day. And by faith right now, I accept the gift of salvation. (gentle piano music) I'm new. Thank you, Lord. Now worship with us. Father, we thank you. If you're watching online and you prayed that prayer, I just want to pray with you one more time for all of you that are watching online
or watching this recorded. Right now in the name of Jesus, for those that are incarcerated, and those that are in a home, driving a car, watching this on video, watching it in their living room. Right now, I just speak life and health. I speak deliverance right now in the name of Jesus. I speak healing right now in your body right now in the name of Jesus. Right now, from head to toe, we just speak life over you right now. Spirit of suicide, we command you to go. Spirit of discouragement, no more depression, anxiety and fear, no more. I lose you now in Jesus' name. Father, right now in the name of Jesus. (gentle piano music) Right now in the name of Jesus, move over this house, worship with us, George. Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you. Thank you Lord, thank you, thank you, thank you Lord, thank you, thank you, thank you Lord. Thank you, Jesus.
