And Jesus came, Jesus says, "I came to set those free." I came to set the captive free. We can never forget that that's why we gather on Sundays. This isn't about three songs in a sermon. Man, His presence is so rich and it's so sweet in this place. One more time, let's give it up for our Lord, and for our Savior. Yes, I think if we were at a concert somewhere, we could do a little bit better. He's the King of King and the Lord of Lords, and He gave His life. He died on the cross, He shed His blood so that you could be here today. Man, Jesus, we just love you, and we praise you, and we thank you, Lord. We thank you for the sacrifice, and we honor you, Lord Jesus, because you're worthy. Seeing those baptisms today, it just moved something in me, God, and I just praise you. I thank you, God, for another life, for your kingdom, Lord. God, I just praise you. I thank you, Pastor. I'm sorry, I'm going to get on with announcements, I promise. So what are the announcements? Discipleship class today, discipleship class number four, understand prayer. So important, man, prayer those intimate times with Jesus. Get down on your knees, spend that time getting to know your Lord and Savior, because that's when that relationship is cultivated. That's when the move happens in your life. That's when those mountains crumble before you. So get in discipleship class today and understand prayer a little bit deeper. We all need it.
The church needs it, our nation needs it, our families need it. In addition to that, women's discipleship class. Okay, yeah, because I see a bunch of women in the house, but we didn't reflect that. So women's discipleship class is a really great time to come and fellowship with your sisters in class. We're getting together again on October 9th. It starts about 6.30. Typically we all bring a little sump. important there's some really rich food in the word. So this time around we are learning about many different women in the Bible and it has been a really great um, it's a word I'm looking for. I can't really pinpoint but I'm personally growing a lot and it's been really great for me. Enrichment, thank you sister. It has because you get older in life and you go through so many things and so many trials and just to know that there were so many women through the ages that have gone through these same testings and these same waiting periods and to see historical accounts of the battles and the trials that they went through but more importantly the victories where God was faithful and it's encouraging to see and to get together with your sisters that have gone through some of those same things and to share. So I really encourage you if you can come out, if you have children, ask your husband's husbands, watch the kids at night so your wives can come out and fellowship with their sisters. It's only for a couple of hours and sisters try to make it, it's worth it I promise. Then let's stand up. Everyone stand up and stretch. Go out of your way, say hello to someone you don't know, meet and greet. We've got about 30, 40 seconds. Say hello to your neighbor, shake a hand, hug a neck, panda, adobo. If you're turning in online on any of our online channels, we're so glad you're here. Welcome family, thanks for tuning in. Amen. All those that are watching through their screens, YouTube, Facebook, panda. God bless each and every one of you. Thank you for being a part of this service, to being here with us on this Sunday morning. Amen. All right, good morning everyone. God bless you. Thank you for being here on this Sunday. You could be anywhere else, but you chose to be here with us and we appreciate it. We appreciate each and every one of you, all of you for being here on this Sunday morning. If this is your first time here, I want to welcome you. You know, this church started in the basement of my house with 20 chairs. That was 15 years
ago and man, God has just been so good. You know, if I wanted to summarize what we're about, we don't want to build a mega church. We want to build mega Christians. We want, amen. We want to teach you what the Word of God says and have you be a stronger Christian. Do we love the worship? Yes, we do. Do we love to have, you know, activities and things? Yes, we do, but all of it has to be rooted in the Word of God. And as a church, that's what we want to do is equip you to know how to read your Bible, what your Bible says, because then and only then where your roots grow deep, that way through adversity, through tribulation, through trauma, through things, the Lord will hold you and withstand and you will be able to withstand. And, you know, here we love the Lord, we worship the Lord. The most important name and the only name that gets preached behind this pulpit is the name of Jesus. There is no other name and he's a senior pastor of the church. He doesn't get tired like I do. He doesn't get hungry like I do. He doesn't get in bad moods. He doesn't get tired. So he's a senior pastor of this church and this pulpit belongs to him. So I just welcome to house of rest. Amen. I do want you to know also that we are a grace international church, meaning that we support. Grace International is almost 6,000 churches around the world and there's so many missionaries but the three that we choose to support are the three that you see on the screen. We got to spend a couple of days this last week with Pastor George from India, Pastor Thomas in Nigeria also, Pastor Moses in Uganda. They come But what we ask is three dollars and your three dollars gets split amongst the three ministries and Each quarter we gather them up and we're able to give them and bless them They live in in countries that our dollar goes a long way three dollars. We might not miss it But it means something huge In their ministries and that adds up so we want to ask you whenever you give your tie their offering or an envelope Make sure you allocate the three dollars for missions and that truly helps and it truly does and These are real people with real ministries real burdens and real lives being changed Also the offering and the tithing as you know You know, I've always said that this is a spiritual thing and a practical thing spiritually The Bible says to give to be a cheerful giver practically. How do you think the bills get paid? you know and It it it happens when all of us collectively give you're not giving toward me. I'm not on payroll
There's actually every person you see here the worship the ushers the media everybody's volunteering the teachers You know our our our teachers director. She works. She manages a eyeglass place 40 plus hours and then she comes here and sets things up for your children you know Same thing with we just I could sit here and name everybody her husband is a lot of though He's actually does janitorial at his at his job and Comes here tired and does it all over again here Why because he loves the Lord because he wants to do his part and so many of you So many of you that come for practice usher greeting everything all the way down the line Your money goes toward us being able to sustain this church and a month ago Whether you knew or not we said we were heading straight to a iceberg and we all chose we're not gonna do that We're gonna change the course of this church. We got to drop the rent check You know and I just want you to keep that in mind keeping in mind of what God is telling you in your heart if this place is blessing you That's all I'm saying. If you have your Bible, want you to lift your Bible up, roll your eyes at somebody that don't. And say, "This is my Bible, it is God's Word to me, my guide and my strength. I bring it ready to learn. I open it with faith in Jesus. I live it with courage, without it I grow weak, with it I grow strong. you today to House of Rest Church. Before we are a family. And I just want to dive right into today's message. It is titled he is a consuming fire. He is a consuming fire. We can open our Bibles to the book of Deuteronomy chapter 4 verse 24. Deuteronomy chapter 4 verse 24. Let me know when you have it. All right. I'm Leviticus chapter 4. Deuteronomy. I'm just testing you. Deuteronomy. I'm flipping pages. I'm telling you and I haven't opened mine yet. Deuteronomy chapter 4 verse 24. In the Old Testament. Amen. You guys got it? All right. It's a very short verse. And it says this. For the Lord your God is a consuming fire. A jealous God. I'm going to read it again. For the Lord your God is a consuming fire. A jealous God. What does that mean? What does consuming fire mean? I want to start with that. We can try to define it in a few ways. But number one it's an absolute holiness. What does consuming fire mean? One of them is he's an absolute holiness. A holiness is completely set apart, completely separate. In other words that God is a consuming fire. He's absolute holiness that God cannot coexist with moral evil or corruption. There is no
evil in him. There is no corruption in him. He's a consuming fire. It's absolute. Another one is he's a he's a refining God. In the same way that physical fire burns away impurities in metal. That's why when they melt gold or silver they do that so they can burn out things that are not gold or things that are not silver. He's a refiner. God's presence purges sin and refines the character of believers. He's a consuming fire. So he's absolute holiness. He's a purifier and also he's divine judgment. He's a divine judgment. In other words he's fiercely opposed to unrighteousness, to idolatry, to worship idols, to worship anything other than him and anything that stands against his moral perfection. He's a consuming fire. And there's awe and reverence when it comes to God because with him comes a deep respect, a humility, a godly fear that we have. He's a consuming fire. Lord God I thank you Lord God for you being a consuming fire. I thank you for this Sunday morning. I thank you for each and every person that stepped into this place and those that are watching through their screens. I thank you for the ladies that were baptized in the name of Jesus. I thank you for the power that you have given us, Lord God, because it is you who breaks the chains and sets us free. It is because you are a consuming fire. You are holy. Set apart, Lord God. It is you that purify us. It is you that we are in awe of Lord God. It is you Lord God. We thank you in Jesus' name, amen. So where do we start? Where do we start when it comes to this? I grew up in church and even though I didn't get saved until I was 32, I would hear that he's a consuming fire. I would hear this all the time and it actually sounds powerful and it even looks good on the screen like wow he's a consuming fire. But what does that even mean? How do we even define it? And I think that was just a start because we're going to see what the Bible says but just to give you an overcap of what we said, he's absolute holiness. He's purifying and refining. He's divine judgment and there is all in reverence toward him. He's an all-consuming fire. But I want to take us back into the book of Exodus, the second book of the Bible. And we're going to stay there for a little bit so if you want to go there, Exodus chapter 3. And we're going to stay there for a bit and we're going to see what it is that the Lord
has us today to learn in Exodus chapter 3, 1 through 6. He's an all-consuming fire. In Exodus chapter 3, starting at verse 1, you've got to understand that in this part of the book, Moses was chosen by God and Moses was raised by the daughter of Pharaoh so he was raised in the palace but he was a Hebrew but they were killing the Hebrew boys at that time and the mom, it's a whole other story if you don't know it but basically the daughter of Pharaoh raised Moses but Moses knew he was a Hebrew. And as he became an adult, he started to see the injustices of the way the Hebrew people were being treated by the Egyptian soldiers and he came across an Egyptian soldier that was whipping a Hebrew and Moses got angry and he killed the soldier and buried him in the sand. And it was found out but because he was in essence basically the son of the queen or the princess, they didn't kill him but they banished him out of Egypt even though he was raised in the palace, he was educated, he knew all these things that he was supposed to learn in the palace but now he's banished from the palace. Moses, the one that was called, the one that had a calling and he found himself in the backside of the desert. And some of you here, you know it's interesting because in my life I've met people and I've met people in their lowest and many times you would never guess. They said, "Man, I was raised in a good home. I had my mom and my dad and I had good grades in school and just decisions and choices we make in life and we find ourselves in situations. We find ourselves on Ninth Street or in the airport district wandering around or in prison or jail wherever it is that we find ourselves and we're like, "What happened? This wasn't the way it was supposed to be." And Moses finds himself in the backside of the desert, it says here, now Moses, verse 1, was keeping the flock of his father-in-law, Jethro, the priest of Midian and he led his flock to the west side. It says it. So if you're from the west, you got hope, just saying, there's hope and he led his flock
to the west side of the wilderness and came to Horeb, the mountain of God. So he's there in the backside of the desert and he's tending sheep. This is somebody that was raised as a prince of Egypt and now he finds himself watching a flock and the angel of the Lord appeared to him in a flame of fire out of the midst of a bush. See, I don't think it's very weird to see a burning bush in the desert, it's hot, but something drew him toward that bush because he realized it was on fire but it wasn't being consumed. And Moses said, I will turn aside to see this great sight why this bush is not burned. Verse 4, when the Lord saw that he turned aside to see, God called to him out of the bush, Moses, Moses. So he sees that bush on fire and it wasn't being consumed and then he says that's weird And then he hears a voice call his name. [BLANK_AUDIO] Verse five, then he says, do not come near. That's what the voice says, don't come near, don't get closer to the bush. Take your sandals off your feet for the place on what you're standing is holy ground. And verse six, and he says, the voice out of the bush says, I am the God of your father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob. And Moses hid his face for he was afraid to look at God. See, the people, the Hebrew people understood that to see God is to die because your flesh couldn't handle it, couldn't handle his presence, couldn't handle him. Why? Because he is absolute holiness, he is refining, he's divine judgment, and there is awe and reverence in him. And the moment he realized who it was, I was speaking to him, the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, he put his head down, he was afraid. You know, it was just an ordinary day watching the same old sheep. You know, some of us, maybe we got saved because maybe it was a slow progression, or maybe somebody was sharing with us. So we're going to a Bible study, but maybe some of you, you had no idea. You just stumbled the cross of revival, you just stumbled across the church service, you just stumbled across a YouTube video that ministered to you. It was just a regular
ordinary day doing the same old thing, you were going to get loaded, you were going to get drunk, you're going to do this, you're going to do that, whatever it is you were going to do. It was an ordinary day, but then all of a sudden something spoke to you. You had no idea that your whole life was about to change. You had no idea. The day I got saved February 25th, 2005 was a regular day. I remember pretty much being up all night, I was working in the studio, I was with some friends and then the next morning I took my son to school and I would take him to kindergarten and then I'd go home and sleep because I was up all night. I had no idea my whole life was going to change that day. He sees the burning bush and it wasn't consumed. Like I said, fire, it's not nothing unusual in the wilderness, but something about this fire was different. See, maybe you've been to counseling, maybe you've been here and there, maybe you've heard some positive words, but there was something about the presence of God, there was something about that message, that sermon, that evangelist, there was something they said, man, this fire is different. There's something different about this because the bush is burning but the bush isn't being consumed and Moses is like, man, I got to check this out. I need to see this and so he moves toward the fire and all of a sudden he hears a voice and it seemed like the fire spoke, Moses, Moses. And I love the fact that God is like, hold on, hold on, take off your sandals because what you're about to walk is holy. What does holy mean? Holy means set apart for God and God's presence is there and it's like Moses thought he was approaching a fire but he was actually approaching a presence. See, there's a difference. You might think you're stepped into a church not realizing you're walking into the presence of God. It's not this building, it's not us, it's not me, it's him. And so, so, so he thought he was just approaching this fire but the closer he got the more he realized, oh, this ain't no ordinary fire. This, this is not an ordinary presence. This is, this is not an ordinary God. See, remember he was raised in Egypt so he was used to the gods that the Egyptians would worship and they were just statues and they were elaborate and some of them were large and big but they didn't move and they didn't speak. And all of a sudden he hears this and says, I'm the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob because the Bible says for the Lord your God is a consuming fire. Holy, set apart, purifying, awe and reverence. So, there's five things I want to establish today about what makes God a consuming fire. The first point I want to make is, is, is, and this is what I love about this type of message because if you read your Bible, if you know your word, I'm not going to give you a sermon where like
there's not going to be an aha moment i'm just gonna I wasn't riding a sermon to try to come up with something witty, something like, ooh, like I'm just reminding you who it is that we serve. 'Cause some of us need a reminder of that. So number one, God is bigger than what he created. Let's start there. In Isaiah chapter 40, verse 12, Isaiah chapter 40, verse 12. Let me know when you have it. Isaiah chapter 40, verse 12. Tell me I love hearing the pages flipping, that's music to my ears. We want to be a biblical church. Okay, Isaiah 40, verse 12 says this. And this is God asking a question to the prophet. And he says, "Who has measured the waters in the hollow of his hand and marked off the heavens with a span and closed the dust of the earth in a measure and weighed the mountains and scales and the hills in a balance?" I'm gonna talk about that in case you're like, I don't know what a span is. I don't know what a hollow of a hand is. I don't know what a measure is. But I'm gonna read it again. And God is talking to the prophet Isaiah and he asks him a question and he says, "Who has measured the waters in the hollow of his hand
and marked off the heavens with a span and closed the dust of the earth in a measure and weighed the mountains and scales in the hills in a balance?" Let's go to the first part. Who has measured the waters in the hollow of his hand? I want you to, how many of you been to Monterey, San Francisco, Santa Cruz and seen the ocean? (audience member speaking) That's just one ocean. It's a Pacific ocean. Not the Atlantic ocean, not the, there's a lot, we have more water on this planet than we do land. But look at that. God says, "Who's measured the waters in his hand?" Think about that. The oceans, man, I stood at the beach. I was just up highway one and I'm looking and there's something about looking at the water that reminds me of how small that I am. But it also reminds me of how big he is. And that's a big ocean, man. It is massive. Like I can't even see to the other, it just keeps going and going and going. And God says, "Man, I hold that water in my hand." Mm, you can't even see the other side. I've been to San Francisco and I was trying to see if I could see Japan. And I couldn't, maybe if I get binoculars,
maybe I could see Hawaii. Can't do it. But he says, "I hold it in my hand." And then he goes on and he's like, "God is bragging." And he says, "Man, I hold the water of the earth in my hand." And then he says, "The heavens with the span." And I was like, "What's a span?" Basically it's like, for us, a ruler is 12 inches. A span is like nine inches. And God says, "See the heavens, you think that's big "that I hold all the oceans in my hand? "Look at the sky, look at the galaxy, "look at the universe." He was, "I have measured it." How do you measure that? How do you measure that? He says, "I hold the oceans in my hand "and I've measured the universe." See, we look at creation. We go to Lake Tahoe and see that lake. We go to the ocean and see the ocean. We go up the grapevine and we're like, "This is crazy." Or we go to Montana, or we go to Wyoming, we go to all these places at Grand Canyon and we're like, "Wow, look how big it is." We look at creation, wow, how big it is. But Isaiah looks at creation and says, "Look how big you are, Lord." These mountains and these deserts and this ocean
and this just gives the testament of how big you are. [BLANK_AUDIO] I try to count the stars and I lose count after 10. There's too many. And the Lord says, I measure it because the Lord, your God is a consuming fire. So God is bigger than what he created. That's point number one. Point number two. God knows what we can't even count. He knows what we can't even count Isaiah 40, same book. Verse 25 and 26. Isaiah chapter 40, verse 25 and 26, and it says this. Same conversation with the prophet Isaiah and he says, to whom then will you compare me? I love that. God is saying, man, who do you know that's like me? Husbands, I know we do that to our wives. We're like, you ain't going to find nobody like me. But God means it. God says you ain't going to find no God like me. He was all the other guys are going to find. They're made out of wood and they're made out of stone. And by the way, who made that wood and who made that stone? He says, there is no one like me. There's nobody like me to whom then will you compare that I should be like him? Says the Holy one. He says, lift up your eyes on high and see who created these. He tells I say, I want you to look up to the stars. Who do you think created them? Do you realize that our, you guys know, our son is a star. And to us, it's huge.
Right, especially in a, in July, that sun feels really huge. You know, our son is tiny compared to some stars. There's some stars that are so big, a billion of our sons would fit inside that star. That's crazy, right? And God says, lift up your eyes. And look, who created them? He says, who brings out their hosts by number, calling them all by name? I hold your oceans in my hand. I measure the universe with my ruler. Matter of fact, each one of those twinkling little stars that some of them. Your star would fit a billion of yours would fit in that one. He was, and I know them not only by number, but by name. He says, by the greatness of his might and because he is strong in power, not one of them is missing. So he knows the stars by name. That boggles my mind. I don't know if you came in here feeling small, but you probably feel even smaller. But that's a good thing, because sometimes we need to be not the peg or two down. Sometimes we need to be knocked off our high horse. We think the world revolves around us and it revolves around him. Matter of fact, and I'm just going to read it in Psalm 147, 4 and 5. If you just want to write it down, I'm going to go ahead and read it. It says, he determines, for those of you that want to write it down, Psalm 147, 4 and 5. It says, he determines the number of the stars and he gives to all of them their names. And verse 5 says, "Great is our Lord and abundant in power. His understanding is beyond measure." You know what's weird is sometimes we actually have debates with God as if he's our equal. Sometimes we try to give God ideas as if he didn't think of that. We try to remind God of our issues as if he forgot.
Sometimes we try to lay out our business plan in front of him instead of asking him, "Lord, give me because I'm dumb." We just read it says, "Great is our Lord and abundant in power and his understanding is beyond measure." So think about this, look at this, he contrasted that with the stars. He says, "Man, you know what, all these stars, how many of you can measure it?" that and I'm beyond understanding of that." Wow. And he says, "God brings out the stars." And then he calls him by name. See, I was already blown away with the whole, I know how many hairs you have in your head, which means zero. So it's easy to count. But for some of you, shaggy's. He knows, that's enough, right? If he says, "I know exactly how many hairs you have in your head." And you're like, "But I brush it and some fall off." He goes, "I know that number, too." That was already, but imagine if he named each hair. And this is what he says. He goes, "All those stars are a host of heaven." He goes, "I say it, don't you understand who you're dealing with." Look at all those twinkling little stars. Those are just massive, just massive, just gigantic suns. And not only do I know how many there is, I've named each one. They all look the same to me. And he says, "No, I've named them all." We human beings, we look into space and we struggle to even comprehend the numbers of stars there is in heaven. But God doesn't just know how many. He knows their names. The God who knows every star knows your name. The God who knows every galaxy knows where you are right now. I'm going to say that again, because that just kind of blows me away that the God that knows the name of every star knows your name. And the God that knows where every galaxy is right now knows where you are. The God who doesn't lose track of one single star. Remember, it says that because he is strong in power, not one of them is missing. So if not one star is missing, you think he doesn't know when you're missing? Sometimes I think we worry and we freak out because we forget how big of a God he is. He's beyond that. He hasn't lost track of you. You think you might have lost track of yourself. Sometimes I lose track of myself. But he doesn't. He knows exactly where you are. He knows exactly what you're doing. And some of us, we try to run away from God. Something happens. Something horrible happens. Some trauma happens. And we get angry and we always want to blame God. And we run away. And the whole thing is, you can't run away from God. He knows exactly where you're at. For your Lord, your God is a consuming fire.
So God knows what we can't even count. Number three. I like this one. All of creation understands the voice of its creator. All creation understands the voice of its creator. You know, the world humanity, I don't know how many languages there is, but there's thousands of languages on this planet. Languages and dialects and there's English and Spanish and Hebrew and Greek and Arabic and Aramaic and Mandarin. Who knows languages and dialects across this whole earth. Even within China, there's different languages and a lot of them can't even communicate with each other. That nation is so big. There's so many languages, but God understands them all. God doesn't need an interpreter. That's wild. Right now, there's services happening right now in America, in Africa, in China, and he understands all of them perfectly. And I'm just like, okay, that's cool. Well, let's go deeper. Let's take it further. God doesn't only speak the language of people, creation itself recognizes his voice. See, I was blown away already with a thought that he understood every language, 'cause I'm just like, see me, see. I understand Spanish. I can't speak it well because I don't use it, but I understand it because I've heard it all my life. But I'm be honest with you, if you speak to me in Spanish, I'm interpreting it into English before I ponder it. It's a lot of work. So if you're ever talking Spanish to me and I started looking tired after a while, it's because my wheels are turning. And I got to hear it in my mind, I think, in English. And that's the question I've asked. I've asked people, I'm like, so you speak Spanish? Do you think in Spanish? Like that was foreign, and they're like, see? That's so weird to me, right? Because we're so used to, like, think about it right now. Your thoughts are in English.
And that blows me away, right? But God understands every language, but it goes even further than that. Creation recognizes his voice. Matter of fact, there's a part in Mark 439, 41. Jesus speaks to the wind. They were on the boat and they woke him up and the disciples are freaking out. They're like, we're gonna die, we're gonna die, we're gonna sink. And Jesus was just crashed out on the boat and they finally woke him up and he got bothered. He's like, why are you waking me up for? Because of this little storm, don't you understand how big of a God that I am? Kind of like us, we freak out. And we wanna shake God and be like, hey, don't you see what's going on? And he says, do I have to show you how I measure the galaxy and hold the oceans in my hand? Do I have to show you each and every star and give it his name? And you're telling me about your little waves. You think you're gonna sink? And he gets out and he looks, he says, peace be still in the ocean obeys and the storms obey. You know what that tells me, that means, oh, he speaks ocean. Our God speaks ocean, he speaks lightning, he speaks thunder, he speaks clouds because they obey him. 7,100 and what?
And 70 languages. So I know two. Almost there. Yeah, I know one in a, yeah. Yeah, 'cause I don't, that's true, that's true. Thanks for dissing me. (audience laughing) That's wild, right? Like the storms obey him. And the Bible says at the moment he said it, everything stopped, the wave stopped, the wind stopped, the clouds went away and the disciples themselves were like, what type of man is this? Oh, he said who he was and Isaiah, he says, man, I'm the one that counts the stars and names them all. I'm the one that holds the ocean in the palm of my hand, that's who I am. And in the book of Matthew, the Bible says that he told them in Matthew 17, 27, they said, oh, we gotta pay taxes. We gotta pay taxes and Jesus tells them, we'll go catch a fish and get out what's in its mouth. And they go and find a fish and there's a coin in its mouth. And he goes, what do I do? He goes, go pay the taxes. That tells me God speaks fish. God says, I gotta send that little tilapia and he starts to talk in tilapia language. He says, I want you to eat that coin and I want you to come to the coast and when you see my disciple Peter come up,
I want you to throw yourself into his hand 'cause I don't want him to catch somewhere else. I want him to catch you little tilapia. I want you to, so God speaks tilapia. In Numbers 22, 28, do you not have to go there 'cause I'm just gonna say it, but God causes a donkey to speak. And at first I'm like, how did you do that? And then I looked in the mirror. I'm like, oh, you're still making donkey speak. So God speaks donkey. I am a comedian. In the book of Jonah, chapter one verse 17, same thing. They throw Jonah out of the boat and the Bible says a great fish came up and swallowed up Jonah so we know he speaks whatever that fish was. Just as a great fish, but God speaks it. In Jonah chapter four, six and eight, this has got a point, a plant, a worm and a wind. So he speaks worm. (audience laughing) And he speaks plant and wind. Olive, yeah, he spoke to the Olive branch. He, yeah, that's crazy, right? So you see what I'm getting? It's like we're blown away by the fact that he can speak languages, but he speaks creation. God speaks human, he speaks ocean, he speaks wind, he speaks fish, God speaks animal,
God speaks creation because creation recognizes the voice of its creator. Whew, we were just at the beach on the way back from conference, we went up highway one. And if I didn't have to preach, I would just stayed out there. It's so beautiful. Plus ran out of money. (audience laughing) But if I didn't have nowhere to be and if I had unlimited money, I'd still be there. And we were just sitting there in Moro Bay and we were looking at the water and I said, you know what's crazy is the fact that how is it that the turtles know those turtles, that they go and land and lay their eggs? And then the moment the turtles hatch, they know to make a run to the ocean. Who told them that? I mean, we can go on and on and on. We were just sitting there and we're, we started talking about God right there in the beach and there was some rocks there and all of a sudden all these little squirrels start coming out. I don't know where, like all these crevices, they start coming out and you know, I don't know if this is true or not because the more we talked about God, because we were actually doing a video
for the prison ministry. And we were just talking about the greatness of God and the bigness of God. It's kind of kind of leading me for this message, you know, and all of a sudden these little squirrels start coming around. I'm like, man, I believe, I truly believe in my heart that they feel the presence of their creator. There's a piece that came and they start to come out and they're, whatever they're doing, I don't know what, but God speaks it. (congregation laughing) God speaks it. Because who instructs the animals, who instructs the mat, who instructs the elephant and the giraffe and the bear? All of creation knows the voice of its creator. That's wild. And besides the animals and the bugs, we see the creation and it says the Bible says, and God said, let there be light and there was light. So light understands his language. God spoke and the water separated. God spoke and vegetation appeared. God spoke and animals appeared. And it's like, the universe doesn't just exist only because God is powerful. The universe exists because God spoke. All of creation knows, he knows how to speak the language of all these things. He holds the ocean in his hand.
He measures the universe with his ruler. He counts the stars and names each one. He knows all these things and all of creation, he knows how to communicate with it. This is the God that we serve. For the Lord, your God is a consuming fire. And all of creation understands the voice of its creator. Number four is nothing is too hard for him. I like that one. Nothing is too hard for him. Go to Jeremiah, chapter 32, verse 17. Jeremiah 32, 17. Jeremiah 32, 17. Jeremiah 32, 17. Let me know when you have it. All right. Jeremiah 32, 17 says this. This is a conversation he's having with the prophet Jeremiah. And Jeremiah says, oh Lord God, it is you who made the heavens and the earth This is a prophet Jeremiah saying this, he's making his proclamation. He's like, God, you created all of these things, all these things have been done by you, created by you. He says, and when I see all of this, I realize that nothing is too hard for you. We're driving up highway one and I'm, those of you, I don't know if you guys know, but I like to paint. I like to paint landscapes and things and whatnot. And I'm just looking at this and I was like, Sharon, this is crazy. I said, because I don't care how good an artist is, he has to draw or paint something he sees. But imagine how artistic God is that he just creates it out of nothing. He just creates it out of nothing. Like, how many have you been in Moro Bay? Okay, if you haven't, out of nowhere on the ocean beach, there's this gigantic rock of a mountain.
That's how you know it's Moro Bay. It's just, I mean, big, like big, big, like it would make our double tree hotel look small. And it's just this beach and this rock. And then I picked up sand, we were talking, I picked up sand. I'm like, look at all the grains of sand. I said, imagine just one of them, one little tiny grain of sand. And it's like God created the earth. And then he finished and then he felt in his pocket one grain of sand. And he's like, oh, what do I do with this? Let me drop it in Moro Bay. And it's that giant mountain. Because it just feels so misplaced. It feels like God is like, that is a perfect place. I'll just drop it right there. There it is. Let's give a hand to the media. So he holds the oceans in his hand. He spans the heavens. He measures the heavens. He names the stars. The wind recognizes his voice. The oceans obey him. And it's like, if creation responds when he speaks, if the little turtle knows to go to the ocean, if the giraffe knows what to do, if the winds know what to do, in the book of Job, it says to the waves, God speaks to the waves. And he's telling Job, he was, were you there when I created everything? He was when I created the borders of the ocean. And I told the powerful waves, you can only go this far. And this is how far you can go. He called lightning and lightning came. Yes, sir. What do we need to do for you? All of creation knows and obeys him. All of creation responds when he speaks. So let me ask again, what exactly are you facing that you think is too difficult for him? What exactly are you facing that is too difficult for him? See, cancer may be big to us. Debt may be big to us. Your marriage problems may be big to us. Your children wandering and not serving the Lord, it's like they're wandering from God and maybe it looks impossible to us for them to come to the Lord. Your addiction seems unbeatable to us. Your circumstances overwhelm us. But Jeremiah says nothing is too hard for you, Lord. Not most things. He says nothing. Nothing's too hard because the Lord your God is a consuming fire. Nothing is too hard for him. Number five, even death cannot stand before him. Even death cannot stand before him. In Hebrews, the book of Hebrews, New Testament chapter 12, Hebrews chapter 12, 28 and 29. Hebrews chapter 12, 28, 29 says this. He says, therefore, let us be grateful for receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken. And thus, let us offer to God acceptable worship with reverence and awe for our For our God is a consuming fire. He spoke light appeared.
He spoke the Caeso Bade. He spoke and the storms became still. He spoke and demons fled. He spoke and the dead came back to life. And this is the part that confuses those that don't believe because after all of those things, then he himself died. What? How is it that he can do all of these things, all the creation obey him? And then he himself died. You know the Bible says that he stripped himself of his glory, humbled himself to become a man born through the Virgin Mary to pay for our debt. He came to pay for our debt. So all of these things were talked about, all these five points we mentioned, the fact that he's a consuming fire. And he comes down to be one of us and he's rejected by his own and crucified. His body's beaten, his hands and feet are pierced. His last breaths are suffering on Calvary as soldiers and mockers look up to him, making fun of him. And he's struggling to breathe in the cross. And finally he gives up his spirit and he dies right at three o'clock, right at the time of sacrifice, he dies. And creation itself, the one that knows his voice, begins to react. In Matthew 27, verse 50, and Jesus cried out again with a loud voice and yielded up his spirit. So the moment all of a sudden Jesus dies, breezes last breath, the Creator, all things were made by him and for him. And he breezes last breath, creation understood what was happening even though humanity didn't. And the Bible says that at that moment, the curtain of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom and the earth shook and the rock split. What do you think that was like?
All the animals, all the oceans, all the forests, all the stars, all the stars that were named by him, they see the very son of God suffer at the hands of his own creation. And the earth begins to mourn and the earthquakes. The earth that he created shook when its Creator died. Matter of fact, in the book of Matthew, it says that the tombs were even opened. So his death caused tombs to be opened. And here's what's crazy is that, see, you don't understand, maybe you don't understand this, but before we were in Christ, we were dead. We were dead in our trespasses. In other words, we were in tombs. We were like the walking dead, we were zombies. And when he died on the cross, it shook creation to the point that his resurrection is still causing tombs to open today. Because many of, I saw how many people got baptized? I saw five tombs open today. God is still opening tombs, six baptisms. So he dies and the earth quakes. Matter of fact, the Bible says that everything got dark and then Saturday nothing, silence. Friday he's dead, Saturday he's in the tomb. The stone is there. The guards are there. There's a Roman seal, so nobody can steal his body. And let's be honest, from the human. How do you come back from that? The way they whipped him, the way they tortured him, the way they hung him on that cross. I saw him. You couldn't even tell he was a human anymore. There's no way this thing is over. But creation responded again on the third day. In Matthew 28, 1 through 6, it was Sunday morning now. It's a whole new day. And notice what happens again. The Bible literally says and behold, there was a great earthquake when the stone was rolled away. So it's almost as if when he died, all of creation groaned, but when he resurrected, the earth knew and understood that something was happening.
Something was about to change. Something was about to transform. Something was going to happen in the earth shook again. It says there was a great earthquake in the earth shook. And then I don't know why I never really paid attention or I don't know what's wrong with me, but I understood the earth shook when he died. I never realized it shook again when he resurrected because creation knows it's creator. As I wrap this up, you know, like I said in the beginning, I wanted to remind us of how big or God is because I have a feeling, see, God is a strategic God and you're here because he wanted you here. You're not here by chance. You're not here. God is strategic and somebody here, maybe many of you needed to be reminded of how big he is because let's be honest, sometimes we make our issues and our problems a whole lot bigger than our God. And we started this morning with Moses standing before a burning bush. Huh, that bush is on fire. It's not being burned. And then we talked a little bit more and it's not about just the bush. It's about understanding who was in that fire. Who was it that was speaking in that fire? Who was it that was speaking through that bush? And we realize as we read Isaiah, as we read Jeremiah that he's the God that holds the oceans in the hollows of his hand, that he's a God who measures the heavens with his span, that he's a God who calls every star by name, that he's a God who speaks every language, not just the languages of men, but the wind understands him, the wave understands him, the fish understand him. Creation understands the voice of his creator and he told the wind to be still and it was still when it stopped. He told the waves be still and they laid down. He called Lazarus outside of the grave and a dead man walked out. But then on one Friday the creator himself died. And when he died the earth began to shake and the rock split and the veil was torn and the tombs were open. And they laid his body in the tomb and Friday passed and Saturday passed. Oh, you know what? Hell thought it won. The kingdom of darkness says we got him. That's it. It is over. Death thought it finally swallowed up the author of life. Oh, but that Sunday morning man, the earth began to shake again and that stone was rolled away and the angel declared he is not here for he has risen. And in Revelation chapter 117, Jesus says fear not because I'm the first I'm the last in the living one. I died and behold I live forever more. He didn't just survive death. He conquered death. This is the God that we serve for the Lord your God is a consuming fire. We read it in Hebrews 1229. Our God is a consuming fire. The fire didn't consume the bush.
The fire didn't consume Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego. If you read the book of Daniel, they went into the fire and the Bible says that King Nebuchadnezzar says, man, I threw three of them in the fire, but I see a fourth one and he looks like the son of man. And what blows me away is the fact that the Bible says that they didn't even smell like smoke, but the shackles that held them burned off. The fire did not consume them, but the chains were consumed. He can still break the chains. He can still burn those things because he is an all-consuming fire There was nothing impossible for him. He knows all the stars the planets. He knows the universe He knows how to speak all the languages. He knows how to count all things. He is all powerful He is all holy. He is set apart and he is the God that we serve matter of fact in 1 Corinthians 15 54, it says death is swallowed up in victory Oh death, where is your victory? Oh death, where is your death? Where is your sting? So let me ask you now, what are you afraid of then? If God commands the ocean, if God commands the wind, if God commands creation, if God commands demons, if God commands the grave, then what can stand against him? Romans 831, if God is forest, then who can be against us? This is the God that we serve. We don't serve a little statue. We don't serve you. You can't find my God at the flea market may not have porcelain or whatever those things are at. Our God is in heaven. He's a living God and he speaks and he's powerful. If God is for us who can be against us, the bush couldn't contain him. The furnace couldn't contain his people. The storm couldn't resist him. The grave couldn't hold him and death couldn't defeat him. Because our God is a consuming fire. I look something up and I'm going to end it with this. His name is endless. Like for me, he restored so much to me. My personal name for him is he's my restorer. And there's so many people in the Bible that said, God, you're the mighty one. You're the most high. You're God Almighty. You're the God who sees me. You're the mighty God. You're the God of knowledge. You're the jealous God. You're the living God. You're the God of truth. You're the God of heaven. And you're telling me He doesn't know your problems, you're telling me He doesn't know your issues, you're saying that it's impossible for you to get your life back. It might be impossible for you, but nothing is impossible for Him. That's it, one, two, three, four, that understand how big their God is, that's it.

We're going to have communion after, but for now, let's give reverence to the Holy God. Let's worship. We are going to have communion after, but for now, let's worship together. We are going to have communion after, but for now, let's worship together. We are going to have communion after, but for now, let's worship together. We are going to have communion after, but for now, let's worship together. We are going to have communion after, but for now, let's worship together. We are going to have communion after, but for now, let's worship together. We are going to have communion after, but for now, let's worship together.
We are going to have communion after, but for now, let's worship together. We are going to have communion after, but for now, let's worship together. We are going to have communion after, but for now, let's worship together. We are going to have communion after, but for now, let's worship together. Amen! Yours is the kingdom, yours is the power, yours is the glory, forever! Amen! Yours is the kingdom, yours is the power, yours is the glory, forever! Let's go and shout a victory! Amen! We pray for this nation, Lord God, that there will be an outpouring, an outpouring, an outpouring, Lord God, like never before. If you are for us, you can be against the stars. We pray for our hearts, hearts, hearts, hearts. We look at the men of color, we look at just the men of color. We look at just the men of color, we look at just the men of color, we look at just the men of color. We look at just the men of color, we look at just the men of color.
We look at just the men of color, we look at just the men of color, we look at just the men of color. We look at just the men of color, we look at just the men of color, we look at just the men of color. [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] He's a holy God. He's all powerful, all knowing. He knows you. He knows your name. He sees your situation. He hasn't forgot about you. It's impossible for him to forget about you. The Bible says that he has your name written on his palm of his hand. The very same hand that he can hold the oceans with. You know, I want this message to be a reminder of who it is that you serve. I know sometimes his world can seem scary, but I want you to understand who has your back. I want you to understand we need to walk with our back straight. We need to walk around with our head down. We walk around because we know who he is. And we know what he has called us to do and he is given his marching orders. He says go and preach the gospel and make disciples of all nations. We don't apologize for that. We don't cower from that. We don't shy away from that. God is looking for people right now in this generation who will stand up for his name regardless of what the world is saying. Regardless of what the news is saying, regardless of what ideologies are saying, regardless of what protesters are saying, regardless of what governors or presidents or kings are saying. We stand in the name of the Lord because he is the one that holds the oceans in his hand. Do you understand? Not even death could hold him down.
We don't walk around like we are better than other people, but we walk around with our head high against the kingdom of darkness and demons and evil spirits because they will be casted out. We don't run from them. They run from us because greater Z who is in you than he who is in the world. Don't you forget that. We don't serve a statue. We don't serve a little God. You bite the flea market. We don't worship a skeleton that people worship. We worship the living God, the one true God, the Alpha, the Omega, the beginning and the end. And there is nothing impossible for him. We're going to have communion because the Lord tells us to. And as you go to grab your elements, the bread and the juice, I want to give an opportunity for anybody if you have not given your life to the Lord. What better day than right now today's a day of salvation. Tomorrow's not promised. Can you imagine? Say, man, I gave my life to the Lord on the day they did baptisms on the day they did communion. If that is you, whether you're here or watching through the screen right now, you can give your life to the Lord, surrender your life to the Lord right now. There's no specific way, but I will lead you, I will guide you, and just repeat after me the Bible says that you confess it with your mouth and believe it in your heart, you shall be saved. That's what the word says. You might not understand what's happening, but God does. And if that is you, repeat after me and say, Lord God, I repent of all my sins. I believe you died on the cross. And I believe after the third day that you rose in power, even creation shook. Make me, Lord, break the bondage and break the chains starting right now. I surrender it all in Jesus name, amen, amen, amen, let's give the Lord a hand. If you get your elements, we're going to have communion right now. Hold on to the bread first, don't eat it yet. We grab the piece of bread. This is something we do in remembrance of him. He said to do this. Do you realize Satan hates when you have communion? It's not only do you remind yourself of what he did, you remind the enemy. How many of you have felt the enemy on your neck all week long? Well, you know what the Bible says? It says that all things are under his feet. So by having communion, what you're doing is not only reminding yourself, but you're
reminding him of who wins and who you belong to. Hold on to that bread in Luke 22. It says this in verse 19, it says he took the bread and when he had given thanks, he broke it and gave it to them saying, this is my body which is given for you. Jesus says, do this in remembrance of me, Lord God, before we eat this, I pray, Lord God, that you bless this bread, that it represents your body that was on that cross that suffered for us. Thank you in Jesus' name, amen, let's eat the bread together. He's saying, he hates that you did that, but he's really going to hate the juice part. And I don't know about you, but the enemies of God are my enemies and Satan is his biggest enemy. The juice, it says, and likewise, a cup after they'd eaten saying, this cup that is poured out for you is a new covenant in my blood. This represents his blood that was shed on that cross. This represents why we were set free. Lord, I'd ask you, Lord, to bless this juice in the name of Jesus, to let it be a reminder, not only us, but the kingdom of darkness, Lord God, that we belong to you, that when we take this cup, it is us saying that we will be one with you and you be one with us. In Jesus' name, amen, let's drink together. Thank you, Lord. Thank you, Lord. Thank you, Lord, for the service. Thank you for every person that is here, those that are on screen, Lord God. Thank you for your covering. Thank you for your glory and your power. Thank you, Lord God, because you're an all-consuming fire, Lord God. We thank you in Jesus' name, Lord, I pray that you shine your face upon every person that's here and those that are watching on through the screens. We thank you in Jesus' name, amen, let's give the Lord a hand one more time. Amen.
