We are a Grace International Church with over 5,000 churches worldwide. Welcome home. Mark your calendars for our yearly Grace International Regional Leadership Conference. This September 28th and 29th, all Grace churches from California, Arizona and Nevada will get together for a time of learning, encouragement and fellowship at Grace at the Circle Church at 308 South Glassell Street, Orange, California. The best part is that we encourage our House of Rest Church family to stay at the same hotel for fellowship and bonding. The hotel has a great free breakfast, pool and hot tub. So here is the game plan. On September 27th, Sunday after service, we will make our way to the city of Orange. Flyers are available at the church with the entire itinerary for services, young adults night at Dave and Buster's Arcade and time in the pool. If you have any questions, please ask Pastor David or Sharon. Testing, testing. Okay, here we go. We're working this time. Good morning, House of Rest. How is everyone? Yeah, you all sound a little bit sleepy still. Let's hear a hallelujah. All right, that's a little bit better. Jennifer, it's always an honor to come up here and bring you your announcements. This Regional Leadership Conference is going to be amazing. If you have an opportunity to go, I really hope that you make it. It's always a great time traveling anywhere with this family. And Grace International really, really provides a great time. Everything is done in class and style.
Today is our discipleship class. This is number three, understanding prayer. It happens immediately following our service today. And if you're not familiar, if you're new here and... Oh, how-to, discipleship class, how-to. Okay, thank you. Thank you. Well, maybe I need to go sit in on that class, right, and understand how-to. So we'll do it. It's immediately following. It's part of a six-week series that you can jump in at any time. So don't feel like you need to wait for number one to start over again. You're welcome to come in at any time. Or if you need to make up a class in order to get your pin, we invite you to do that. We are also doing women's discipleship. It happens every other Friday night. How many ladies here come to the discipleship class, the women's discipleship class? Yeah, it's beautiful. It is a wonderful, intimate time with your sisters in Christ. We're studying women in the Bible. And, man, it's powerful. So I really encourage you to come out on a Friday night and get a chance. If you get a chance to, you won't be disappointed. Our next class is August 14th. So, please, it starts at 630. If you can come out to that. Every Wednesday night, we do youth ministry, Bible study, and young adults. We all gather at 645 in the lobby outside. And then after worship, kids go to youth group, young adults get together. We encourage that. You really want to develop relationships and have some strong bonds in Christ. Oh, exciting. August 22nd. and we're gonna do the next food giveaway. So if you're in need, or if you know someone in your community
that needs help with groceries, our team is here working diligently to prepare everything, make it very streamlined. They open the doors. Is it at 11 we open the doors? Or one? What time? Oh, 10, 10 to 12. Okay, well, Pastor Sharon's gonna give you some more information about that. So with that, while we wait for her, let's get up and say hello to our neighbor. Everyone stand up. You got 30 seconds. Go out of your way. Say hi to someone you don't know. Hug someone you do. Pando, everyone tuning in on Facebook or any other social media, we're glad that you're here. Thank you for joining us. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.
Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Amen, I want to thank all those that are watching on their screens. God bless you. Welcome to House of Rest Church. Before our church, we are a family. Amen. Good morning, everyone. Amen. Thank you so much for being here with us. You could have been anywhere else. You could have got defeated by your blanket, but you won. My blanket almost defeated me today, but I did it. Amen. That's a tough battle, for real. I wanted to fill in a little information regarding the food giveaway. So we are going to do the food giveaway, but I need volunteers, guys. On Friday, we need lots of volunteers because we bring out the food during the daytime. So if you're available during the daytime, I would love to talk to you after service so you can come and let me know that you're going to be here. Then I need baggers for the evening time so we can fill up the bags. So please, your youth can come and get involved as well. I would love just help. And then we also have the volunteers that are going to come for the Saturday. Guys, last time we had to turn people away. We fed over 723 people, individuals, last time, and it was so many families. It was just an abundance amount, and it wasn't because we didn't have the hand help.
It was because we did not have enough food. We were scrounging from our kitchen. We were scrounging from everywhere that we can to take as much as we could. We just did not have enough. We turned away, I think, at least 50 cars. That was a lot. And so this time, what I'm going to do is I think I'm going to hold back in probably announcing until social media, until a few days before, because we're just going to do our best, guys. That's all we can do is do our best, right? So but I definitely need the help. The last time on that Friday, we did not have enough help. We were, by Saturday, we were dead. It was really, really hard. So if we can have help, that would be great. If you're available during the day, we would love for you to be here so that we can bring out the stuff and create sort of a system. It worked out really, really great. And then if you're available after work, that would be wonderful. We'll meet here at 630 on Friday evening, and then maybe about 11 o'clock on Friday morning. That would be great. That way, you still have time to sleep in, so I'm not taking you away from your sleep. So I'm going to say maybe about we can get things done within two hours, two, three hours. I think that'll work. In the evening, it usually takes about two hours as well. And then on Monday, on Saturday, I changed the time. I changed it because people start showing up so early. I changed it 10 to 12 instead because we cannot, the way it wraps up around here, it is just nuts. So I changed it 10 to 12 so we can just get done as quick as possible.
It's going to be first come, first serve. We're just gonna get started and just get people in and out. So wear your most comfortable shoes, tennis shoes, and let's just get people, let's just get people food. Let's get family food, amen. And we have some good food, so let's get them served. Just come, you know what, I'll actually have a notepad there and just come let me know what days you're available and I'll just take your name down. And then right after service at the welcome center and I'll just, you know, take your name down and just let me know what day you can come. That would be great. At least that way I can have, I can know who's gonna be coming. Yeah, thank you. Amen. Real quick, as far as the regional leadership conference in Orange, we haven't printed the flyers. We had flyers, but not with the full itinerary, hotel, church address and everything. And, but if you wanna write this number, it's a church number and just text your name and say, I want the flyer. And sometime today I'll send it to you. I'm gonna give you the number. I'm just, I don't wanna put that flyer online because I don't feel like giving everybody in the world exactly where we're gonna be at, you know? And, but if you just text this number and just say,
this is so-and-so send me the flyer. It's 209-565-3044. That's the church number. I'm gonna say it again, 209-565-3044 and send your name and I'll send you the flyer and has a full address, itinerary, everything that you need to know about that. And, and hopefully before then we'll have actual flyers here at the church. So, yeah, see that one doesn't have the hotel address, which is good. Make it a little hard for somebody to find me. Amen. Along with that guys, I just want to share, you know, last week I spoke on vision and us not hitting the iceberg, you know, and not just hitting the iceberg and that's where this church was headed. And we talked about it. If you weren't here last week, you're a little lost. Maybe you could watch, you know, go back on YouTube and watch it. But I know that the direction of the church isn't gonna change with one sermon, you know? And so I did want to say this before we talk about missions and giving is basically, you know, there's this thing called your resting energy expenditure, for instance, your body. And basically it's the minimum that your body can survive. If you did not get up from bed, if you don't go to work,
you know, if you just laid there, you know, you're still using energy. Your heart's still beating, your lungs are still, your cells are regenerating, your organs are working. So even if you just laid there, you still need a certain amount of calories to survive. It's called the REE, which is your resting energy expenditure. It's basically how much your body is gonna burn, even if you do nothing. So at its minimum, what does your body need to survive? Right? And for most people, it's 1200 to 1500 men, women, it's around there that you need that because if not, you're depriving your body of your essential nutrients and it causes you harm over time. Why am I saying that? Because it makes me wonder and say, what's the REE or the resting expenditure of a church? You know, what is the minimum for a church to survive? And like I said, we need to turn the ship in a different direction. And these are, I think for the next few weeks, I'm gonna be dropping things because I couldn't put everything on last week's sermon. So instead, we're just gonna just talk a little bit about it just to give you a clear understanding of it. So I'm gonna say it like this, is that in order for a church to survive at this size, we have 225 chairs here.
And I know some of them are children, some of them are young adults, some of them just, you know, different walks of life. Um, 50 people would have to say, you know what, I'm gonna tithe. A tithe meaning I'm gonna give a 10% of my income. We need 50 of those for us to have the REE just to survive. And we're nowhere near that. Now, on the base, though, is 150 people giving $27 every week. So it's either 50 giving a full tithe or 150 giving 27 a week. And here's the thing, right, is that most likely it's going to be a little bit of both. Some people are not working, some can't, and I get that. We all get that. We've been there. Some of us are there right now. And that's understandable. But what I'm saying is just to maintain is 50 giving a tithe or 150, 27, and a mixture of both. And even at that point, guys, this is just functioning. No surplus for events or youth events or children's events or married couples or community events or church barbecues or helping the community. This is just so the heartbeat keeps beating, you know. And of course, it takes more than that over time because we don't want to be in a place of survival all the time, but it's a start. And I'm going to say is that I want to believe that there are those people here that saying, you know what, I believe in God with my money and I believe in partnering with this house of worship. And I want to be either the 150 people with the 27 or one of the 50 pillars. Think about that.
So there's 225 chairs and there's a 50 pillar saying I'm going to tithe. That leaves room for 175 people to just come and receive. And I think that's powerful because eventually what will happen is more people will come to be a part of this vision of what God is doing here and the church will just grow. And before we know it, we're going to have to have double services or triple services because that's just the way it's going to grow. Not because we want a big church, but because we want to reach our community. We want to reach our community with biblical teaching and biblical worship, you know, and I believe that that should be the goal. So over the next few weeks, I'm going to have a few people just come and share what tithing means to them. And today I wanted to give a few minutes to Tino and Mickey, if they could come up real quick and just share on what tithing or giving has been for you guys and what it means for you. By the way, you did amazing on Wednesday. That was a great Bible study. I got saved that day. Go ahead. You lead. You lead. And where you were at, you needed the baptism so that way you could be saved. In case you don't know, he was in Vegas, so he was in Sin City. Let's put him on blast. Okay, so tithing, right? I've been through a long road with tithing. And for most of my walk, I have realized that my feelings and my mind do not matter. Okay? So the thing about it is tithing, money, giving, what's another word? Donating, right? Whatever word you want to use, everybody clams up. And the thing about money is by a show of hands of people who congregate here, who appreciate
what Pastor David and Sharon are doing. By a show of hands. Okay, you see all those hands? Everybody that lifted up your hands, you should be giving to the soil. If you had a farm, you would be taking care of that farm. You would till the land. You would make sure that the dirt is ready to go. You would be able to seed. You would do the things that a farmer does so that way your crops can grow. This is your land. If you call this home, you should be tilling the ground. Pastor David asked me to talk about conviction. This is my conviction. He also said don't preach. Trust me, this isn't a preaching. This is my conviction. Because it took me a long time to understand that when it comes to giving, it doesn't matter about my feelings. It's about me tilling. And you know what? I go to work. And if my money is what's going to help it to grow, and if I call it home, I want to help wherever I can. My hands do the work, but money can also do the work when I am not there. See what I'm saying? is is we were singing a song. His goodness. How does that go? His goodness was running after me. Can you sing that real quick? Lay down. I surrender. Now I give you everything. Your goodness is running after. With my life laid down, I give you everything. I surrender all. So really think about what you are doing for myself. And then I promise I'm done. And then I'll give this to the one who everybody wants to hear from. So the thing about the thing about it is, is I remember the light bill. I remember the water bill, the disconnection ones, the pink ones. If you guys
know what that is, right? I remember food for my children. And these aren't just because I have a microphone in my hand. I live these. That's why I speak so boldly about how I move. I remember it was my children eat or we give the money away. And so it's not about the money going to a building. It's not about giving it to the pastor. It's not about that. God says that where your heart is, is where your treasure is or where your treasure is, is where your heart is. Yeah, there you go. That's the correct way. So the thing about it is we gave it and we will continue to give it until we die. So a lot of people is, I like to say this is that it's 10% to give away 90% he blesses. Our goal is to live off the 20 and to give 80. So remember, are you those words that you were just singing with pastor Sharon? Are you truly living those words? Are you giving everything just food for thought? Amen. Amen. You know, as you know, we are grace international church and we support missions. When we say support missions, it's these three ministries here, pastor George, pastor Thomas, and pastor Moses, and $3 isn't much. But if we give $3 each week to these ministries, can your daughter get split? It adds up and it's a huge, huge blessing. And the same thing with the tithing and offering, we are going to turn the direction of this church. And like I said, last week, it's as a new chapter. This is a whole new thing. And, um, you know, and I believe in the future, um, as we turn things around that, I know that there's a lot of times that say, man, I wish I can give, but I'm so much in debt so much. And maybe at that time, we can talk about that. We can say, how do we fix this? Or who has fixed it before here that can show me how to fit things like that, that we can do later on, you know, because I mean, nobody likes to be in debt. I don't like it, you know, and sometimes we want to do things that we're unable to because of the choices we made in the past, you know, and, um, but this is turning the ship because I believe not only will it turn the ship and the direction of this church, it'll change the direction of your life, of your family, of your future, of your children, your grandchildren. Uh, so I know that, um, there's ushers that have envelopes. And, um, if you need one, they can give you one. If you have one, they can get it from me, or you can bring it to the box. There's QR codes also in the back of the seats. And we can just bow our heads. We're going to pray. Lord God, we thank you so much for this opportunity, Lord. We give you all honor and all glory, Lord. We thank you, Lord God, because we as a church are going to change the direction, and we're going to turn things around, Lord. And we're going to do so much in this community, so much in this city, so much for our youth and our children, so much for our marriages.
There are so many things that are going to happen because we will grow into a place, Lord God, where we will be able to do those things, Lord. And we thank you now. I'm already thanking you, Lord God, for the direction and what you are going to do here at this church, at House of Rest Church. We pray not only for our church, but all the churches in Modesto, all the leaders and pastors in Modesto, that you bless them also, Lord God. We thank you in Jesus' name. Amen. Yes. Round me with a song Of deliverance From my enemies Till all my fears are gone I'm no longer a slave to fear I am a child of God I'm no longer a slave to fear I am a child of God From my mother's womb You have chosen me Love has called my name I've been born again Into your family Your blood flows through my veins I'm no longer a slave to fear I am a child of God I'm no longer a slave to fear I am a child of God Oh, oh, oh You've split the sea so I can walk right through it You've drowned my fears in perfect love You've rescued me so I can stand and sing I am a child of God You've split the sea so I can walk right through it
My fears were drowned in perfect love You've rescued me so I can stand and sing I am a child of God I am a child of God I am a child of God I am a child of God Amen, Lord God. I pray that you bless this message, Lord God. I thank you so much. You are the senior pastor of this church, and this pulpit will always belong to you. I thank you for each man and woman in this place, Lord God, that you bless them and anoint them, that you open their hearts and open their minds to receive your word, Lord God. These are not my words. This is not about my opinions, Lord God. It's about what it is that you are saying to each and every one of us, and we thank you for this opportunity. In Jesus' name, amen. All right. What do you think is Jesus' favorite Japanese food? Miso soup, because he loves me so much. He loves me so much. That's from somebody on Pando. Thank you, brother. I don't remember exactly your name, but he gave that to us. He loves me so much.
All right. Amen. Today's message is who are you in that lonely place? Oh, wait. Lift up that Bible. This is my Bible. It is God's word to me. My guide and my strength. I bring it ready to learn. I open it with faith in Jesus. I live it with courage. Without it, I grow weak. With it, I grow strong. Today I bring it, believe it, and obey it. In Jesus' name. All right. Now we're in a better place. Today's message is titled, who are you in that lonely place? And I think, I don't think I believe that this is going to, you're here strategically. God's a strategic God. So if you're here, it's because you need to hear this message. And it's an honest question, is who are you when nobody's around? Who are you when you're alone with the Lord? And sometimes it's like the lonely place doesn't create your character as much as it reveals who you are. The lonely place doesn't create your character as much as it reveals who you are. Who you are when the crowd is gone, when the noise is silent, and all you have is your faith and your choices. It reveals who you are. You know, yesterday I had the opportunity to do a bike ride with my brother-in-law.
If you know, Sharon's brother was in federal prison for 20 years. And he just, we ended up finding a bike for him. And he fell in love with the sport. And he loves it. You know, he loves it and drove up here. And we did this ride in Lake Tahoe yesterday. Riding a bike in Modesto is a whole different thing from riding a bike in Lake Tahoe. I did that same ride in 2022. And unfortunately, that ride defeated me. Didn't like it. I can't stand when a ride defeats me. I remember the first time we did Monterey and it defeated us. And we went back like a year later and we're like, we're going to beat this thing. And we did. But that bike ride defeated me back in 2022 when I found myself in that same spot yesterday. And I remember a few minutes before I started getting nervous again. I was all like ready for it. But as it got closer, I got nervous because nobody else is going to pedal for me. You're by yourself. And I want to talk about some things of people that were by themselves in the situation and what that has caused in many people's lives. But in the Bible, there's a few specific people I want to talk about. If the first in the first one, if we can go to 1 Kings chapter 19. Starting at verse 9. This is talking about the prophet Elijah. And Elijah found himself after a great victory in front of all of Israel. He found himself in a cave by himself alone. First Kings 19 verse 9. He had an incredible victory, but now in isolation, we see a man that's exhausted. He's frightened.
He's discouraged. And sometimes in our greatest victories, the next day is sometimes the loneliest. But he met God there. It says here in 1 Kings 19 verse 9, there he came to a cave and he lodged in it. Because a lot of times after a great victory, we want to isolate and hide ourselves. And he's in this cave and it says, and behold, the word of the Lord came to him and said to him, what are you doing here, Elijah? It's almost like God is saying, you just had the greatest victory. I just gave you the greatest victory. And you go and isolate yourself and you hide. Obviously God knew where he was. It reminds me of Adam. When Adam fell, God says, where are you, Adam? But God knew where Adam was. There wasn't a bush that God couldn't see through. But the heart of Adam was like, where are you? And here we see it again. Let me tell you. It tells Elijah, he sees him in the cave and he's like, what are you doing here? Why are you in this place of isolation? And he said, this is Elijah verse 10, he says, I have been very jealous for the Lord, the God of hosts, for the people of Israel have forsaken your covenant. They've thrown down your altars, killed your prophets with the sword, and I, even I, am left, and they seek my life to take it away. So he answers God, God says, what are you doing here? And he's like, man, what do you mean, what am I doing here?
I have been a diehard for you. I have been worshiping you. I've been praying to you all this time, but everybody wants to kill me. Matter of fact, nobody else serves you the way I do. Everybody's playing games with you, but I'm not. And now they want to kill me. That's what I'm doing here, God. That's why I'm in this cave by myself. See, a lot of us, we go into caves. Maybe you're not going to the Altamont into a real cave, but you're going into a spiritual cave. And you just kind of go into this auto mode where you're just kind of doing things just by automatic, but you have completely isolated yourself because you feel like you're the only one, and you feel all alone. And the Lord, in verse 11, says, and he says, go out and stand on the mount before the Lord. You know, I love that verse because even though God sees Elijah in a cave, he refuses to talk to him in his depression. He refuses to talk to him in his sadness. He refuses and says, you want to talk to me? Then come out of your cave. It's got to start there. You got to step up and step out because we tend to want to feel sorry for ourselves. We want to play the violin for ourselves. We go, poor me, I'm the only one.
Nobody's gone through this. Nobody's ever, whatever it is, you fill in the blank. And it's easy to say that, and it's easy to do that, but when God says, you know what? Step out of your cave, and I got something to say to you. And it says in verse 11, and he said, go out and stand on the mount before the Lord, and behold, the Lord passed by, and a great and strong wind tore the mountains and broke in pieces the rocks before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind. And after the wind, an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake. And after the earthquake, a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire, the sound of a low whisper. Is another, in the King James, this is that he came in a still, small voice. He wasn't in the fire. He wasn't in the noise. He wasn't in the crowd shouting. He wasn't in any of those things. He was a still, small voice. You know what I like about that? I like the fact that God is so confident in himself that he will not have a shouting match with your problems. God is so confident he will not have a shouting match with our issues. It's like you're in a room, and everybody's talking, but somebody's speaking.
And instead of the person shouting, understanding that he knows, he or she knows, their words have so much weight that they don't gotta shout, because if you wanna hear, you'll quit talking. Because if it's truly the word of God, he's not gonna fight with your problems. And he came as a still, small voice, and it says, and when he heard it, he wrapped his face in his cloak, and went out and stood at the entrance of the cave. So he's in the cave, he hears the earthquake, the fire, the wind, and he hears this still, small voice, but he's talking low. I love that because God is like, you know what? I'm gonna whisper, because if you stay in your cave, you're not gonna be able to hear what I'm saying. So I imagine Elijah was just sitting in his cave, all sad, and God is just whispering, and Elijah's like, I can't hear what he's saying. So automatically, you know what you're gonna do? You're gonna get closer to the source. Oh, I can hear him a little better from here. I still can't hear, let me get a little closer. Let me get a little closer, because a lot of times, see, the enemy wants to isolate you away from God, because the further you are from God, unlikeliness that you will even hear God, but there's something about the Lord's voice, there's something about God's voice that draws you to him, where you're just like, it's almost like the still small voice,
it's so powerful yet soothing. And so Elijah heard it and he went out and stood at the entrance of the cave. And it says, and behold there came a voice to him and said, what are you doing here, Elijah? So after one of his greatest victories, he had to learn who he was in the midst of loneliness, because a lot of times we don't know who we are. Before Christ, I filled my life with noise. People trip out because they're like, you don't even play the radio when you drive, what's wrong with you? My life was filled with so much noise in the past, and I realized when I came to Christ, I filled it with noise because I didn't like what I saw. TV was always blaring, sometimes music at the exact same time, for no reason. You're not watching the TV, you're not listening to that, you're just all this noise and just noise and noise and noise, because you don't want to hear. And it wasn't until I was in that quiet place where I was, had to face myself and had to see who I really was, because the isolation will reveal who you are, and when I saw that revealing of who I was, I didn't like it. And I had a choice to make. Do I deal with what I see, or do I just turn the sound up again and just drown myself? Most people, the reason they fall into addiction, the reason they fall into alcoholism, it's something deeper than the drugs and deeper than the alcohol, it's the fact that you don't like what you see. So you fill it with noise, you fill it with all kinds of stuff, because you don't want to see. Some of you look for a boyfriend or girlfriend because you don't like who you are by yourself, and if you don't like who you are by yourself, but all of a sudden you want to find somebody else to like you, how about you fix yourself and actually become that person somebody else wants to be around?
But just completely fill your life with noise. So we see Elijah that he had to reveal himself and learn who he was in that lonely place. Another person in the Bible, if you go to the book of Daniel, I want to give about three examples and then and then we're going to talk about it, but I want to show you some things. Book of Daniel chapter 6, starting in verse 16. So for those of you that don't know, let me just kind of set the stage here. Daniel was a prophet of God. He was not in Israel because an empire came and took all the able men away, and Daniel was one of them. So he's in a foreign place, in a foreign kingdom, standing before a foreign king, but he did not forget the Lord God, and he continued to serve the Lord. And there was some, I don't know what else to call them, but haters. There were some haters that didn't like the fact that Daniel didn't fall in line, that Daniel didn't worship their God, that Daniel didn't kneel down to the ideologies of that time. So these haters went to the king and said, hey, why don't you build this huge statue and everybody worship it? Because they knew Daniel and his friends weren't going to do that. They knew Daniel would pray. They hated the fact that Daniel prayed. They wanted to stop Daniel from praying, so they told the king, hey, stop this and stop that. Whatever it was Daniel was doing, they tried to do something in order to sabotage him. It's funny because there's ideologies now that the world wants you to bow down to. There are ideologies, lifestyles, things that you see in this nation, in this
state that everybody else makes you out to be a bad person because you choose to serve God. So it's still the same. But basically it was said that if Daniel continued to do this, that whoever did it, anybody, Daniel or anybody else, they were going to throw them into the lion's pit. I remember when I was young, I went to the San Francisco Zoo and you went at a time when they did the feeding of the tigers and the lions. Those things sound, when the lion roars, it trembles your chest. And that's what the big old fence in between us and a big old gulf in between. And they're giving this lion meat and just the sound of that lion, that one lion, put the fear of God in me. And at this time, Daniel was being told, if you don't stop, the king is going to throw you into a den of lions, not one, lions. And his character here was all of a sudden going to reveal itself because it's one thing to preach the things of God. It's another to get thrown into a pit of lions. It's one thing to preach. It's another to be in a place of persecution. That's why I respect Pastor Thomas so much. I honor Pastor Thomas so much because we can shout Jesus and wear Jesus shirts here in America, wear a cross and all this and that, have Jesus sticker on your car. But to be in a nation where there are people that want to massacre you and still proclaim. And I've told Pastor Thomas, I was like, how can you do what you do? He says, what do you mean? What else is there but to preach the gospel? I mean, but your life, he says, they're just going to change my address. Either I'm here preaching the gospel or in the presence of God, I win either way. And so Daniel had this conviction that he was going to worship God and serve God. So it got to the point where they, that Daniel continued to pray and it got to the king's ear. But here's the thing. The king didn't know they were plotting on Daniel. The king actually liked Daniel, but he got tricked because he wrote the law. So Daniel chapter six, verse 16. It says the king commanded, and Daniel was brought and cast into the den of lions. And the king declared to Daniel, because he liked Daniel, he says, may your God, who you serve continually, deliver you. The king is saying, I can't even go back on my own word. I wrote the law, didn't know they were plotting on you, but I had to write it. I can't even go back on my own word. I had to write it. I signed it. So I can't look, I have to save face in front of the whole kingdom. So I have to abide by the law that I signed. But Daniel, as you go down there, may the God that I see you worship all the time, may he deliver you. You know that den didn't build or produce who Daniel was. It revealed who he was. A lot of us think that, well, of course,
if I get thrown into a lion's den, if I do this, then God will produce in me a strong man or strong woman. No, that situation won't produce you. It'll reveal you. It'll reveal who you are. And in this moment, Daniel, the den was going to reveal what God had already built in private. And it says in verse 17, and a stone was brought and laid on the mouth of the den. So they brought Daniel down into the lions and they covered it up so he couldn't escape. First of all, imagine being in the lion of dens and then in the dark. I don't know what that felt like. I mean, the den is either a cave or a rock or a hole and they covered it up. And all of a sudden he hears the growls, he hears their breathing, and then the rock goes over and it's complete darkness. And a stone was brought and laid on the mouth of the den and the king sealed it with his own signet and with the signet of his Lord that nothing might be changed concerning Daniel. He put a seal on it and if that seal was broken, somebody was in trouble. And they let Daniel down into it. And verse 18 says, Then the king went to his palace and spent the night fasting. No diversions were brought to him and sleep fled from him. The king himself respected and loved Daniel so much he felt tricked. He felt bamboozled. So the whole night, he couldn't even sleep, the king himself. He couldn't eat. He started fasting. He just rolled around in his bed because the law was that you'll be thrown into the den of lions until the morning sun came up. So he's waiting and waiting for the night to be over, waiting for the night to be over because he knew that the god of Daniel was powerful. And it says in verse 19, at the break of day, the king arose and went in haste to the den of lions. So the king himself got dressed as soon as the sun came up
and he ran over to the den, praying all night, fasting all night for him to a god that wasn't his. And as he came near to the den where Daniel was, he cried out in a tone of anguish. And the king declared to Daniel, Daniel, servant of the living god, has your god, who you serve continually, been able to deliver you from the lions? Calls out to him, calls into the darkness, calls to see just maybe, just maybe the slim chance that Daniel didn't get eaten and torn apart. I don't know if there was silence. I don't know if it was instantly, but in verse 21, then Daniel said to the king, oh, king, live forever. My god sent his angel and shut the lion's mouth and they have not harmed me because I was found blameless before him. And also before you, oh king, I have done no harm. I don't know what that night was like. I know through scripture what it was like for the king, but what was that night for Daniel? Did he go in there confidently? Did he go in there with his head up? Did he go in there arrogantly? Like ain't nobody gonna touch me. Did he go in there trembling? Lord, I don't know what's going to happen, but I'm just gonna worship you. I'm gonna serve you. I'm gonna pray. I'm gonna sing.
I don't know if he sang worship all that night. I don't know. Something shut the mouth of the enemy. And in a lot of times, guys, I want to tell you that there are things in life that is gonna, it's gonna make you tremble. It's gonna bring fear upon you, but that's normal. That's being human. That is not saying that you don't have faith. That is, we don't know. We don't know if Daniel was just crying like a baby the whole time, hearing the lines. We don't know. But I will say this, that Daniel didn't produce who Daniel was, but it revealed who he was. Because I have a feeling that after one minute passed and he didn't get torn to shreds, a little bit of faith rose up. And after two minutes and he didn't get tore up to shreds, a little bit of faith rose up. Five minutes, an hour, two hours. All of a sudden, he's like, man, Lord, you are with me, Lord. You are with me, God. I serve you and you are the God of Almighty that owns all things. And you can even shut the mouths of the lions. I imagine that night that God revealed to Daniel who Daniel was.
Sometimes in our lives, in my life, there are times where I'm just like, there's no way. There's no way this is gonna happen. There's no way this is gonna happen. And then something budges toward that happening. I'm like, oh. And then it moves a little more and a little more. And each time, faith starts to build up. Because maybe God wants to reveal to you who you are and you didn't even know who you are. Because you have to muster that up. You have to find it in yourself. And the noise and the people and all of those things are not gonna help you see it. Sometimes God will throw you into the lion's den not to harm you, but so you know who he already knows you are. And you will find yourself in a place of isolation, in a place of something as dangerous as this. And in those minutes, God is revealing what he has built all along. And we're just like, I didn't know I had it in me. I did not know I had that in me. Verse 23 says, Then the king was exceedingly glad and commanded that Daniel be taken up out of the desert. den so daniel was taken up out of the den and no kind of harm was found on him because he had trusted in god amen you know that tells me that that he didn't even have a scratch on him you know if you go back to daniel 6 10 look what it says it says when dan this is way before the when daniel knew that the document had been signed so daniel knew that the law was put in
place daniel knew so it's not like the king signed this law and daniel didn't know about it and kept praying daniel knew so according to scripture when daniel knew the document had been signed he went to his house and he had his windows in his upper chamber open towards heaven and he got down on his knees three times a day and prayed and gave thanks before his god as he had done previously in other words daniel didn't change all of a sudden prayer is against the law so he's going to shut the doors or all of a sudden prayers against the law so now he's going to shout and just be extravagant no he's just like i'm gonna keep doing what i'm gonna do you know i i still remember back in 2020 when gavin newsom said all the churches got to shut down okay whatever and then he says you can have service outside all right whatever we don't know what this thing is and i think it was on a week four he says you can gather outside but you can't worship and that's the day i remember online i went online and i said you know what this sunday doors ain't gonna be locked that's all i'm saying because ain't nobody gonna stop our worship we're gonna worship god we're you know it wasn't that we were being irresponsible it wasn't that but when i see people that were protesting in the thousands and nothing was being done but a church you couldn't worship but the bars were open the strip clubs were open but the churches were closed oh the churches were closed oh i'm sorry daniel knew it had been signed but he went to open his windows anyways and got down on his knees three times a day and prayed that's why he was thrown into the lion's den who are you in that lonely place you know the apostle paul in second timothy chapter four verse 16 second timothy chapter 4 verse 16 you know the apostle paul was an interesting man he was a very religious man hated christians because he followed the law but the lord revealed himself to paul in a spectacular way he was on his way to go arrest christians and all of a sudden he heard the voice of god and paul said who are you and the lord said it is me jesus who you're persecuting you're thinking you're thinking you're going after people and arresting them but you're persecuting me and it was at that moment the apostle paul gave his life to the lord surrendered his life
to the lord surrendered his life to the lord and he lived a hard life he lived a hard life of ministry he didn't have a ministry where he had private jets and mansions he had a hard life and people were against him christians didn't trust him because he would arrest christians in the past and the enemies that he used to the the the religious group that he used to serve hated him more because he was educated he could argue back he could throw scripture back and because of that he he lived a hard christian life and when we read second timothy this is his last known letter that we have matter of fact he was in prison he was in prison he was in rome and and we know we don't know how much time after this letter was written he was beheaded because he refused to stop preaching the gospel and he's writing to timothy the reason it's called timothy is timothy was one of his students probably one one of his closest students, he was a young man, and he was writing a letter to Timothy, that's why it's called Second Timothy. So people had been with him, people had left, people had gone, people had partnered with him, people had betrayed him. I mean, just ministry, right? That's what ministry is. If you haven't been betrayed, you haven't been serving God long enough. Somebody will smile on your face, and they're your worst. Somebody will tell you, I'm with you, I ain't leaving. In Second Timothy, chapter four, verse 16, look what he says, at the end of ministry, the end of all these things, he writes to Timothy, he says, at my first defense, no one came to stand by me, but all deserted me. Wow, this is this man's last letter. Ministry, a couple decades of ministry,
traveling here, traveling there, raising up pastors, raising up teachers, raising up evangelists, going and spreading the gospel, so many people getting saved. He would go into a city that were just complete idol worshipers, and flip that town right side up, after all of these things, and now he's arrested, and he's standing in court, he says, and nobody was at my defense. I looked around, and there was nobody. He says, everybody's deserted me, Timothy. I'm all alone. And then he says, but may it not be charged against him. In other words, he says, Lord, don't hold it against him. But look what he says in 17. He says, but the Lord stood by me, and the Lord strengthened me. So when you find yourself in that lonely place, I want you to take advice from Paul, and Paul says, even though people abandon me, even though nobody's on my side, even though I feel completely isolated and completely alone, Lord, you are with me, and if I have you, what else do I need? Who else do I need? He's telling something to Timothy, because he knows that Timothy is gonna go on in ministry, and he's trying to pour into Timothy, telling him the day's gonna come, Timothy, when you're gonna feel completely alone,
you're gonna feel completely isolated. I know right now it feels like you have an entourage with you, you have all kinds of people with you, but when it comes down to it, you're gonna look around and realize you're the only one standing there. He says, but the Lord, but the Lord stood by me, and the Lord strengthened me. I don't want you to forget that, Timothy, that no matter what happens, God says I will never leave you nor forsake you. I am there through the dark times, I'm there inside of the pit, I'm there when you're inside of the cave, I'm inside of all of it. He says the Lord stood by me and strengthened me so that through me the message might be fully proclaimed and all the Gentiles might hear it, so I was rescued from the lion's mouth. He compared himself to Daniel. He catched that. In the same way that Daniel was thrown in the pit, Paul is saying, man, I was thrown in the pit too. Because ultimately, Daniel, I don't know how many friends Daniel had, but ultimately he was in the pit by himself. There was nothing anybody could do, the rock was thrown over it, the seal was put on there,
and Paul is saying the same thing, I was rescued from the lion's mouth. Verse 18, it says the Lord will rescue me from every evil deed and bring me safely into his heavenly kingdom. To him be the glory forever and ever, amen. In other words, what is Paul saying? He's like, listen, I don't know what's gonna happen. I know I'm isolated, I know I'm by myself, I know there's nobody standing by me, but you know what, Timothy, at the end of all things, I know that I'm gonna be brought into the safety of his kingdom. We don't know how much later that Paul was beheaded. I don't know if Paul understood that in 2026, we would still be reading his letters. I don't know how alone he felt as they marched him in chains to the place where they were gonna chop his head off. And he looked around maybe saying, where are my people? And he saw nobody. And at that point, he had to realize this is who God made me to be. And maybe at that point, he realized I am like Daniel inside of there. I am like Elijah that came out of the cave. I'm completely alone. alone but God is with me. Who are you when it's just you and God? That's the question we all need to ask ourselves. Who am I? Who am I when there's no worship
playing? Who am I outside of Sunday service? Who am I outside of fellowship? Who am I? Are you still faithful when nobody sees? Do you still pray when nobody hears you? Are you that person that likes to pray so other people can be like wow they're a prayer warrior? Because real prayer warriors pray in the quiet. Do you still obey when nobody celebrates you? Do you still have integrity when nobody could know of what it is you did? See the the cave revealed Elijah. The lion's den revealed Daniel. The abandonment of Paul revealed who he was. And you know what eventually, your lonely place will reveal who you are. And all of us are going to go through that, some of us a few times. But that's life, that's what life is. But there's hope in every one of these stories is they were never actually alone. Though I walk in the valley of the shadow of death, I shall fear no evil because you are with me. Elijah heard God in the cave. Daniel found God in the den. Paul said the Lord stood with me. You know there's there's so many people in history, but just just to name a couple, you know there's a man named Nelson Mandela. Anybody ever heard of him? He spent 27 years in prison. And much of it on this place called Robin Island. And actually that 27 years of him in prison helped him become a disciplined leader who would later become South Africa's president. And he helped guide that country in a good direction. But instead of the 27 years producing bitterness, it produced a leader in him. Because it was make it or break it. 27 years. I've seen people break after three months of incarceration.
But 27 years was either going to produce bitterness, a broken man, or it was going to develop a leader. He had to find that place alone that nobody else could help him or give him. There was another man in history named Winston Churchill. He was in England for years. Winston Churchill was politically marginalized and he warned and warned against Nazi Germany. And people didn't want to hear him. He was warning and warning. They're just like, man, I don't want to hear this. I don't want to hear this. He became highly unpopular. But then in Britain's darkest hour in 1940, the very qualities that made him difficult and unpopular, they said he was stubborn, he was defiant, he refused to surrender. Those became qualities that Britain needed. Why? Because he stood against the tide. He didn't listen to what the people were saying. He said, this is bad. This Hitler's bad. We got to do something about it. And even though it was unpopular for him to say it, he was gonna say it anyways. And that very thing is what saved Britain from falling. Another person named Abraham Lincoln. He endured repeated, repeated defeats and profound personal sorrow before even becoming president. So many heartbreaks, so many obstacles that got in his way before he even became president. But all of a sudden, the Civil War placed him in a lonely position where even though he had people on the left and people on the right, he found himself alone and making decisions that involved slavery and preservation of just the union of United States and and so much loss of life and it all rested on him and everybody looked at him. And I imagine at times he found himself alone. And he had to find within himself who he was. Because when the whole world's against you, it will reveal who you are.
You know, Church, sometimes your calling becomes clearest when nobody else is in the room. Let me say that again. Sometimes, your calling becomes more clear when nobody else is in the room. Who are you when the crowd disappears? Who are you when there's no applause? Who are you when obedience will cost you something? When you actually obey the word and everything turns against you, who are you? Because eventually, every person who carries a calling will encounter that lonely place, I promise you. When I gave my life to the Lord, there was a group of people that would serve God, but they would still gamble, they would still do this, they would still do that, but they would show up at Bible study, they would show up and everything was fine and you were accepted, but the moment you start saying, hey, that ain't of God, that ain't of God, that ain't of God, you find yourself completely alone because people will tolerate a tolerable Christian. The world will tolerate you if you're a Christian but mixed in with the world. They will tolerate you, but the moment they realize that you ain't about that, those same Christians will attack you because you're making them look bad. You know, in my life, there was a time when that lonely place wasn't a metaphor. Many of you, it's not a secret, many of you know that I gave my life to the Lord in federal prison after fighting a RICO, the RICO Act, and I was given a 96-month sentence, which is eight years. Out of eight years, you do 85% of that. And I found myself in solitary confinement. My life, I was used to the crowds, I was used to the applause, I was used to all those things and there was no crowds here, there was no applause here, there was no one to impress, no one to convince that I was somebody. Didn't tell the officers, hey, I'm somebody, I'm so-and-so. They're like, you're a number, 0-2-8-5-3-7-4-8, that's who you are. You're not even Rocha, you're a number. Just four walls and me, that's it.
And somewhere in that loneliness, I had to muster up my soul. I had to remind myself. I remember crying out to the Lord and surrendering my life to the Lord and saying, Lord, I don't know who I am anymore and if I do know who I am, I don't like who I am, Lord. Change me, do something, I surrender, I lay my life out before you, Lord, because I don't like who I see. And I remember months and months of isolation, I mean complete isolation. And I remember just looking in the mirror and reminding myself. I used to, guys, I used to look in my scratched-up mirror in my cell and tell myself that I was a human. Think about that. I would look in the mirror, you are a human, your name is David, you have a mother and a father who love you, you have children who love you, you have brothers who love you. I had to remind myself that because I would be fed through a slot and it reminded me the way my dad would feed his pigs. And lunch wasn't even a tray, it was a bag and if I happened to not be there by the door, they would just throw the bag on the floor like I was a dog. That's how I got my lunch every day. Matter of fact, I couldn't stand by the door because if they stand away from the door, they would open the slot and they would throw the bag. Couldn't even hand it to me like a human. I'm not a cage animal, I'm not a thing, I'm a person. And that place was trying to tell me who I was. Prison had a number for me, prison had a cell for me, a sentence for me, other people had opinions about me, my past had accusations against me. But none of those things, none of those things had the authority to determine who I would become. I was not going to allow those things to tell me who I am. am because I was in this word and my word was showing me something different than what I saw and either I was going to allow this place to break me and dictate me to tell me who I was or I was going to read the word of God and believe God
and I realized that this lonely place was going to reveal something to me. Would I come out bitter? Would I come out broken? Would I lose myself inside of those walls? Or would I discover something about myself that I could have never discovered in the crowd because I didn't know who I was? See, sometimes you don't discover who you are when everything is going right. You won't discover who you are. I remember a pastor telling me, he says, you know how to choose your leaders? I said, no, I hadn't, I told them I was going to start House of Rest. I hadn't started House of Rest yet and he says, this is how you choose your leaders, David. He goes, you wait for them to go through the worst storms of their life. I said, what do you mean? He says, because then you'll see what kind of person they really are. He's like, if you choose your leaders when everything is great, that don't tell you nothing. Wait till they go through some stuff and that's when you discover who you really are and what you're really made of because sometimes you discover who you are when everything, sometimes you discover who you are when everything that used to identify you has been taken away. That's what happened to me. Everything who I thought I was, once it was stripped away from me, I didn't know who I was and that's why I ask you today, who are you in that lonely place? So 2022, I did that ride in Lake Tahoe and it defeated me and yesterday we're driving up with her brother. I don't want to, I don't want to look weak to her brother. He just did 20 years. I was like, man, what do you think of this trail? He was all, man, I'm excited. I'm excited too then, you know what I mean? And I'm freaking out. And he's like, his smile's getting bigger because we rode, we drove, we had a drive and you can see the trail on the side, 22 miles in. So we're seeing the ride the whole time and the closer we're getting to the beginning point, his smile's growing and I'm freaking out because it had defeated me before. And I remember we, we, we got off, we started unloading our bikes and getting our, you know, helmets on and everything on and I'm just sitting there and I think Sharon was recording. I don't know what I said, you know, and she's recording and, and because they were going to follow along with us, all my, my tubes, my water, Gatorades, uh, tools, everything was in the car. Everything was there. Matter of fact, when we started the, the road and the trail were next to each other. So the whole time we're riding, they're riding along, cheering us on and that felt good.
That felt awesome. And everything was going great. And I'm like, nah, this, this ain't so bad. But then it came to a certain part where the road they were at and the trail separated. And I'm like, there's my tools. They're my tube. There goes the Gatorade and the water, my water, the Gatorade and the water, my water bottle, the water was hot. I asked my brother-in-law about his, he goes, my water tastes like soap. Apparently it wasn't rinsed out enough. You did that to your brother. And just in case he cussed, she wanted to wash his mouth out with soap. Yeah. And I realized as we kept going, there was a certain part that defeated me in 2022. And then I saw it again. I was like, oh man, what did I do this again? You know, riding a bike in Modesto is different of elevation of 4,000, 5,000 feet. The air is thinner. And, and, and it's like this, it ain't flat over there. And, um, and I realized I'm riding and he, he was ahead of me and, and, and there was no support. There wasn't Sharon saying, woo, out the window, nothing. I didn't get no woo, nothing. And I'm riding and I even, I forgot my ear pods. So I can't play music or nothing. I couldn't play Rocky. Like maybe that would, you know, dun, dun, dun, dun, dun. You know, something. I heard the tiger. You know what I mean? Like, nothing. And I'm riding, and he's getting further and further. And I just realized there's nothing but me, this bike, and these pedals. And there's nobody else. No cheering, no Gatorade, no cold water in that truck. Nothing is going to push this bike but me. Nothing was going to push this thing forward but me. I have all the support, but it's me
that was pushing these pedals and nobody else. Heart beating, sweat, my legs are burning. But it had to be me. I had to find it within myself. And in your Christian walk, you're going to have people that are cheering you on. You're going to have people that are holding cold water for you. You're going to have people that have the tools to help you in your marriage and your life. And they have all of these things for you. And many times, they're going to cheer you on as you're going through ministries. You come up here and get your lapel pin, or you come up, or whatever it is you're doing. And people are cheering you on. But in this life, you're going to find yourself that you are away from everybody else. And nobody's going to help you push through this thing in your Christian life. That's why I don't micromanage people, because I don't believe in micromanaging people, because you have to find it within yourself to muster this thing up and to get through, no matter what it is. There's times where it was hills, and it was hard. And there's times where I just coasted. I'm like, oh, this is awesome. And then all of a sudden, I would hit another hill, and it got hard again. That's going to be life.
You're going to go through times where it's easy, and times where it's hard. You're going to have times where people are cheering you on, and you're going to have times when they're not. But you've got to get through this. You've got to figure out who you are by yourself. Nobody's going to peddle your way through. You've got to find it and muster it up within yourself and say, this will not break me. This ride broke me in 2022, and I'm going to break it in 2026. There are things that defeated you yesterday. There's things that defeated you last year in your walk, but not this year. Not this year. This year, you're going to get through those things. Because in life, nobody's going to do it for you. You've got to do it. The last mile, man, that last mile, I was going. And that last mile was like, all of a sudden, the trail felt like I was riding on marshmallows or sand. And I can see the finish line. I can see, because they were waiting for us at a Starbucks and McDonald's off the trucky exit. There's a McDonald's and a Starbucks and a Save Mart there. And I'm one mile away. I can see it. I knew there was cold water in that truck. I knew that air condition was blowing. I just had to get there, man.
And that last mile took everything in me. I had to muster it up. I almost wanted to call Sharon, just come pick me up over here. And I just saw her brother just going like nothing. I'm just like, man. So I just pedaled my way through. I'm just like, I got to get there. And I'm telling you right now, there are people in heaven right now that are at the finish line. And they're waiting there with some cold water for you. And they're waiting there. And all you've got to do is get through that last mile. No matter what, I will not stop. I will not stop pedaling. I need to find my, I need to muster it up myself, because nobody's going to push these pedals for me. As I wrap this up, I want to talk about one last person, Jesus. Jesus knew what it was to be surrounded by people and still have a road that only he was going to be able to walk alone. There was people who loved him. There was people who wept for him. Even when he was walking to Calvary, there was a man named Simon that helped him carry his cross. But Simon could only carry the wood. He couldn't carry the weight Jesus was carrying. Jesus was alone, going to carry it by himself. There are people in your life that are going to come along like Simon.
And sometimes when you really can't, they will come alongside you and say, come on man I got you and that is beautiful that is awesome but you know what the stuff you're carrying they can't carry that for you they can come alongside you they can help you but they can't carry it for you and they couldn't even though Simon helped Jesus carry the cross he couldn't carry what Jesus was carrying and there are some burdens that another person can help you carry and there are some places in your calling where nobody can walk with you because the trail separates and Jesus had his lonely place matter of fact in Gethsemane he asked the disciples hey watch over me and they fell asleep alone when when he was arrested his disciples deserted him and ran Peter followed but denied him three times matter of fact the third time he says that Peter denied him the Bible says that Jesus looked right at him maybe before that Jesus like man everybody left me but at least Peter's here and then Peter denies him there's people in your life that that when you are going through the hardest things of your life you look around and nobody is there and you see one person like at least they're still there and they're not even there either I've had that so many times hey pastor I got your back man I'm here next week gone it doesn't feel good and eventually Jesus walked toward Calvary Mount Golgotha and people surrounded him the soldiers were there that the crowd was there his mother was there John was there but when it came time to accomplish what he had come in this world to do Jesus had to do it alone nobody could die that death for him nobody could take his place on that cross nobody else could bear the sins of the world nobody else could do that it was him alone the savior of the world fulfilled his greatest purpose in one of the loneliest moments of his life in one of the loneliest moments of his life his greater purpose was done and we're supposed to be Christ-like so maybe just maybe in the darkest places of your life in the most loneliest places of your life maybe it's that moment that right there is when you're going to accomplish what God has called you to do so maybe the the the lonely place maybe it's not always evidence that you've been abandoned
maybe sometimes a lonely place is where your purpose is undeniable because Daniel had his den Elijah had his cave Paul said nobody stood with me but the Lord stood with me I had a prison cell Jesus had his Calvary so I leave the question again with you who are you in that lonely place? nobody's applauding nobody understands who you are who when people walk away who are you who are you when the titles are stripped away and nobody's left in the room but you and God who are you when you walk away who are you who are you when the titles are stripped away who are you when you walk away who are you who are you when the titles are stripped away I learned something in my lonely place a cell could not confine my body I mean a cell could confine my body I'm sorry but it did not have the authority to tell me who I was let me say that again a cell could confine my body but it could not define who I was I was not a number I was not a thing I was not a caged animal I was a person and so are you you are a person you are loved by God you're a son and a daughter of the Lord the creator of all things the one that had that caused all things to come into existence and you're his he says I write your name on the palm of my hand who cares if the world doesn't know you I know you and somewhere in that lonely place I had to muster up my soul of who I was and who I not only who I was but who I was going to be and some of you are walking in your lonely place right now right now I'd say this don't waste it Don't waste that lonely place listen and pray Look inside yourself and above all look to the Lord Because that lonely place right now might reveal something about your character to you It may reveal something about your calling it may reveal something about your weaknesses But if you keep walking you're gonna discover something amazing We don't want to go through the hard times, but what if it's the hard times that shows you who you are
And maybe you'll learn that you were never as alone as you thought you were Because when everyone else is gone The Lord still stands with you and Sometimes the the road that you you walk alone is the very road that leads you into your purpose. I Hated that time in solitary But when I reflect now, I realize that's when I became who I am today Because the Lord revealed it to me and I hated that moment, but now I look back and I say, thank you Lord Thank you for that isolation, thank you for separating me. Thank you for that time. Thank you for that moment Thank you Lord because they're sharing what it came back and picked me up on the last mile It would have revealed something to me, but I did it And I finished that ride and she recorded me. I don't know what I said. I was all over the place in my head But I know I defeated it and on to the next trail on to the next trail We could all please stand If anybody here Have not surrendered your life to the Lord Today's a day of salvation tomorrow is not promised What are you waiting for? And before we call everyone up to the altar I want to talk to those that haven't surrendered your life to the Lord whether you're here watching through your screen I want to give you this opportunity right now right now right now right now right now to give your life to the Lord to Surrender your life to Jesus because he wants to reveal to you who you are because you don't even know who you are yet And if that is you I want you to repeat after me and say Lord God. I Surrender all my sins to you. I Repent of all my sins and I surrender myself to you. I Believe you died on the cross and After three days you rose in power Take out my heart of stone and give me a brand new heart Reveal to me who I am In the same way you revealed to Daniel
In the same way you revealed to Elijah Reveal to me who I am in Jesus name. Amen. Amen. Let's give the Lord a hand If you gave your life to the Lord I pray in the name of Jesus for things to be broken off of you for chains to be broken off of you for Addictions to be broken off of you for a cloud of darkness to be taken off of you And I pray Lord God that you bring your light unto that person's life in the name of Jesus that you change their heart change Their mind give them a hunger for your word. Give them a hunger for fellowship and prayer Lord Thank you, Lord. God. We thank you Lord God because we know all of heaven rejoices when one sinner repents. Thank you And now I want to open the altar Because I think that some of you are in darkness Some of you have been in darkness Some of you have questions some of you have been in that dark place some of you are in that lonely place and I want you to just come spend some moments with the Lord right now that he Revealed to you who you are Because chances are he knows who you are, but you don't know who you are and pray and say Lord God reveal to me who I am I Thought this darkness was meant to destroy me Lord God not reveal me We're gonna open this altar up, come on, let's spend some time with the Lord a few minutes I Sinking deep, in mercy's sea And wide awake, drawing close Stared by grace, told my heart is yours The fear removed, I breathe you in And lean into your love Oh, your love Amen Some of you are going to walk into that dark place in the chapter of your life But know that you are not alone When I'm lost, you pursue me Lids my head to see your glory
Lord of all, so beautiful Here in you, I find shelter Captivated by the splendor of your face A secret place And wide awake, drawing close Stared by grace, told my heart is yours The fear removed, I breathe you in And lean into your love Oh, your love Your love so deep, is washing over me Your face is all I see, you are my everything Jesus Christ, you are my one desire Lord, you're my only pride, to know you all my life Your love so deep, is washing over me Your face is all I see, you are my everything Jesus Christ, you are my one desire Lord, you're my only pride, to know you all my life Your love so deep, is washing over me Your face is all I see, you are my everything Jesus Christ, you are my one desire Lord, you're my only pride, to know you all my life And wide awake, drawing close Stared by grace, and all my heart is yours The fear removed, I breathe you in And lean into your love Oh, your love I want to come back, to stay in your love forever, my precious Father Lord, I pray, Lord God, for every person in this building And those that are watching through their screens, Lord God That in those moments of despair
And in those moments of being in the pit And in those moments where we want to hide in our cave, Lord God That even though we might be alone Even though the crowds have left us, even though the cheering has stopped, Lord God, You are with us. You will never leave us nor forsake us, Lord. And in that moment, You are showing us who we are, Lord God, who our character is, Lord God. And it is then and only then, Lord God, will You launch us into the unknown that only You know, Lord God. Because we know, Lord God, that the harvest is plenty and the workers are few. And You're looking for men and women, Lord God, to do Your bidding. You're looking for those who are going to push Your kingdom in this world, Lord God. We thank You, Lord. We thank You, Jesus. Because we are never alone. You are always with us. You will never leave us, and You will never forsake us, Lord. So deep, it's washing over me. Your face is all I see. You are my everything. Jesus Christ, You are my one desire. Lord, You my only cry. To know You all my life. So deep, it's washing over me. Your face is all I see. You are my everything. Jesus Christ, You are my one desire. Lord, You my only cry. To know You all my life. So deep, it's washing over me. Your face is all I see. You are my everything. Jesus Christ, You are my one desire. Lord, You my only cry. To know You all my life. I'm wide awake, drawing close, steered by grace. And all my heart is Yours. All fear removed, I breathe You in. I lean into Your love. All alone, You're alone. Amen, amen. Let's give the Lord a hand. God bless you. I pray that you, that God revealed something to you in today's message. May the Lord shine His face upon each and every one of you. Have a blessed Sunday. God bless you. And we love you and thank you so much for being a part of this family. God bless.
Remember, class number three is going to start in a few minutes. Make your way to the PLBS if you're taking that class. Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, we surrender this service in Your hands, Lord, so that You work, Lord Jesus. Prepare our hearts, Holy Spirit, so that we can worship and praise the Holy Spirit with all our hearts and with all our spirits. You, my God, who created us, Father, we ask You in the name of Jesus Christ, that You take control of the Holy Spirit of God, and that You help us, my God, always, Lord, to give You all the glory and all the honor. In the mighty name of Jesus, we ask You, Heavenly Father, and we thank You, my God. Amen. It's a blast.
Bienvenidos a casa.
Gloria a ti, Señor. Amén. You are what we need every day, Lord. Thank you, Lord. What I need is to always have you by my side. If you are not with me, I have no reason to live. If you are not with me, day and night I will always seek To hear your voice in my heart, to feel your love. What I need is to always have you by my side. If you are not with me, I have no reason to live. If you are not with me, day and night I will always seek To hear your voice in my heart, to feel your love.
If you go in my boat, no matter the storm, Your hand will always help me. Knowing that you go with me makes me rest. Even on the sea I will walk. Even on the clouds I will fly. You are what we need every day, Lord. Sing with me. If you are in a storm, I can tell you that you can trust in the Lord. He says that he will never leave you and never let you down. You are the living God who guides you, keeps you and takes care of you. Hallelujah! Thank you, Lord. If you go in my boat, no matter the storm, Your hand will always help me. Knowing that you go with me makes me rest. Even on the sea I will walk. Even on the clouds I will fly. If you go in my boat, no matter the storm, Your hand will always help me. Knowing that you go with me makes me rest. Even on the sea I will walk.
Even on the clouds I will fly. Even on the clouds I will fly. Even on the clouds I will fly. You are what we need, Jesus. Thank you, Lord. Because you will not leave us, Lord. A big round of applause for Jesus. Amen. Amen. How many of you are happy to be in the house of God? All of you? Amen. Vamos a declarar algo juntos, amen?
We can't represent someone we don't know, Roberto. We have to know God to be able to present God to people. Because many people, as little or as much as we know, are going to ask us questions about God. Amen? And they're going to ask us questions about God. And it's better if we know how to answer through the word of God. That's why it's so important to know God. Not just to know God, but to know God, intimately and personally. Something very important is that we can't direct, and you who are parents can know this, we can't direct our family as parents, right? Without first putting ourselves in the hands of God so that God would give us the wisdom, the understanding of how to take care of our children. There have been parents who sometimes discipline in their own way, but sometimes that discipline doesn't make them understand at all. Rather, they continue, or they do worse things, right? But when we, as parents, are willing to instruct our children in the way of God,
and direct them to God, it's going to be much better for our children's lives. It's going to be much better. I'm going to tell you a real story. It says, George Muller took care of more than 10,000 orphans. You know what orphans are, right? In England, he never asked for money, and every need was taken in prayer as a true man and woman of God. He should do it. At one time, there was no breakfast for hundreds of children. But despite what he saw, he told them to sit at the table. He thanked them, in other words, he prayed. And miraculously, God worked at that moment, in which a baker knocked on the door saying, God has told me to cook this bread for these children. He cooked bread for them, look. How do these things happen? Because a man believed in God, in his provision. It was difficult to feed these thousands of orphans, right? But God opened a path where there was none. He provided food for those children. A little, maybe a few minutes later, a person who was carrying milk, his vehicle broke down, and guess what happened? He donated all the milk to the orphans, to the children. How wonderful is God, right? Now, why does God still answer those who know him, right? He answers those who know him.
A man and a woman of God know God personally. And that's the first point. Knowing God personally is us making an effort to be the true children of God in relationship to God. Because you know, we never, as a couple, me and my wife can't know each other, but personally we don't take time to know each other, right? We have to have a personal communication with God to know God and speak to the people of God, amen? Now, Matthew chapter 7, verse 22 to 23 says, Many will say to me on that day, Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name? In your name did we cast out demons, and in your name did we perform many miracles? And then I will declare to them, I never knew them, depart from me, doers of evil. In the name of Jesus there is power, my brothers. Right? There is power. And these people who believed they had intimacy with God, they did miracles, they did sanities, they did works of God. But they didn't have that relationship with God. They didn't have that relationship with God. Because here it says clearly that Jesus said to them, depart from me, I don't know you, doers of evil. It's important to know God personally Now we can have a lot of knowledge of God and the Bible Or we can have a ministry where God is using us greatly right Greatly but not because we have a ministry and we have a lot of knowledge
Saul. God, through the prophet Samuel, gave Saul the word to go and defeat and kill the king and everything, everything that was there in that city. And what did Saul do? He feared the people, disobeyed God, kept the life of the king, kept animals to sacrifice them to God, when God Himself told him to get rid of everything, of everything.
Our opinion is not worthy before God. Our opinion is not worthy before God. Because you know, when God tells us to do something, we don't know exactly how to do it, but God knows, that's why He commands us. Amen? And He knows the ability you have to do what He commands you to do. Saul had the ability, he had the army to destroy everything and obey the voice of God, the commandment of God, sorry, but he didn't do it. He put his opinion and according to it, he thought that saving the life of the king and keeping him in prison, I don't know, and keeping those animals that were doing good. And even the prophet Samuel was hurt in his heart because he loved Saul. But Saul disobeyed, and because of his disobedience, he lost his kingdom. And we see later in the scriptures that King David was the next king of Israel. Amen? Now, Esther was a young orphan, God gave her favor, and then she became a queen, where God put her in a palace and used her. Now, she wasn't a queen out of ambition, God put her there to save a nation. Let's go to the book of Esther, chapter 4. Esther, chapter 4. Esther, chapter 4, verses 7-17. Esther, chapter 4, verses 7-17. Amen? Amen? Amen? Amen? Amen? Amen? Amen? Amen? Amen? Amen? Amen? Amen? Amen? That's what God, God wants to do. That's what God wants to do.
So, in verse 2, we see, And they said to Malachi the words of Esther, and then Malachi said that they should answer Esther, Do not think that you will escape in the house of the King more than any other Jew, because if you are absolutely silent in this time, respite and liberation will come from somewhere else for the Jews, but you and the house of your father will perish.
But sadly, there have been many things that have happened and sometimes the Church gets involved in mundane things and loses God's credibility. How many of you celebrate Halloween? Halloween? No? How many of you celebrate any other mundane celebration? Did I get into a very difficult topic or what? You know, our purpose, your purpose as a son of God, and my purpose as a son of God, is to reach humanity. Amen? It's to reach humanity. When they celebrate Halloween, or when they celebrate those holidays that don't go with God's will, what the person is doing is participating in those works. And even if they don't wear the costume, but they're celebrating it, passing toys, you know, sweets and all that,
the best thing would be to preach the Gospel every day, not just use the holidays to reach humanity. Right? How different would it be if the churches here in the United States gathered on that day to pray for our nation, to pray for the lost weapons. That's the best thing we can do, right? Instead of getting involved in trying to do something for the children, that the children also... And believe me, there are churches that do it, and the children dress in different costumes, and it's like they're participating. We give different signs to our children, amen? Different. It's us. We have to live in holiness, why? Because God is holy. Because God is holy. And it's not that we're going to become holy, but because we're looking for perfection in Christ, amen? Jesus Christ is in us, and that's why we have to be... holy. For the sanctification that Jesus Christ has done to us, to our lives. Amen? Well, let's go deeper. How about that? ¿Quieren ir más profundo? ¿Sí? Bueno.
Colosenses, y luego vamos a ir a Gálatas y luego a Efesios. Primero vamos a Colosenses capítulo 3, versículo 5.
Gloria a Dios.
¿Sabes? ¿Enthusiastic? No. ¿Cómo? ¿Entusiasados? ¿Cómo? ¿Emocionados?
¿Sabes? Calmado. Jesus gives us the clearest and most true example of how to leave a legacy. Amen? There is no comparison to the legacy that Jesus left. Even though he was mistreated, he was beaten and crucified, he resurrected, and the scripture says that he is at the Father's side, still interceding for us. The legacy that you leave, what legacy will it be? It will be a legacy where your children will say,
my father and my mother served God and I will also serve God. My uncle and my aunt served God and I will also serve God. My nephew and my niece served God and I will also serve God. Because the truth is that another generation is coming after us. Amen? Another generation is coming. The legacy that we can leave is a legacy of serving God and ending our life serving God. Amen? The last story that I'm going to use is from Billy Graham. He preached the gospel for decades, millions, I mean decades. And he preached it to millions of people in different countries. And despite his worldwide recognition, he tried to maintain a life of integrity. Surrounding himself with principles of accountability to protect his ministry and testimony. His greatest legacy was not fame. It was having remained faithful until God called him from this world to his presence. Our brother Hope is another person who gives us a good example of legacy. Amen? He made sacrifices every day to see if his children had sinned, so that God would forgive his children. Amen? And even though he lost everything, except for his wife who was there like a slug, he maintained his integrity. And this is what many of us talk about, women and men of God. Our integrity before God, before people who look at our life and how we live it for God. Stand up. And while you stand up, I'll ask you a question. How does a man or a woman of God form? Because they're not born overnight, right? We have to form ourselves to be a man or a woman of God. Amen? We have to form ourselves. We form ourselves in prayer. We form ourselves in the reading of the word. We form ourselves in obedience. We form ourselves in the trials, in humility, and in the dependence of the Holy Spirit. God does not look for perfect people. No, because I can't serve the Lord because I'm still struggling with that.
No, because I can't be baptized because I still need to leave this. You know what? God does not look for perfect people. He looks for people who are willing from the heart to surrender to him and be used by him. Amen? Do you agree? Close your eyes. In the name of Jesus, we thank you, blessed God, because you are good and your mercy is forever, Lord. We thank you, my God, because today, my God, you spoke to us about our life, Lord Jesus Christ. I ask you, my God, to help us apply everything we have learned and to be able to share it with others, Lord Jesus Christ. We want to be those men and women of yours, my God, that we are willing to obey you. We are willing to make you faithful. We are willing to pray. We are willing to have a personal intimacy with you to know you, my God. I ask you, my God, in the name of Jesus, that each one of us, Lord, may present ourselves before you and always obey you, my God. Because we want, Lord, to always do your will here on earth, Lord. Our will, Lord, is not perfect, but your will is perfect. My God, our life is not perfect, but you are perfect. My God, we do not live totally in holiness, but you are holy, Lord. And we seek holiness in you, Lord. My God, from the bottom of my heart, I ask you, my God, that you strengthen us, Holy Spirit, and help us to remain free from the association with the world, and help us to be different in a world that is fallen. If you are still here today for the first time, or you are looking behind a screen for the first time, if you have never surrendered your life to Jesus Christ, I am going to say a prayer to direct you so that you can surrender your life to the Lord. In the Bible there is no prayer, but we say a prayer to God, so that on this day, if you want to surrender your life to Jesus Christ, and serve God for the rest of your life, repeat after me, Confess to Jesus,
My Lord Jesus, I believe that I am a sinner and I need your forgiveness. Jesus, I confess with my mouth and I believe in my heart that you died on the cross of Calvary, that you were put in a tomb, that on the third day you were resurrected, and now you are at the feet of the Father. Jesus, cleanse me with your precious blood, which cleanses all sin, purifies my heart and my mind, and help me to live for you. Today, on this day, I surrender my life to you, Lord Jesus, totally, and I ask you to save me, forgive me, and transform me to be a new creature to live the rest of my life in your hands. Jesus, remove the heart of stone that is in me and put a heart of flesh, willing to serve you and follow you every day, in the mighty name of Jesus. Amen. The altar is open, if you like prayer, you can come forward. God is here. Amen. The altar is open. The altar is open. Your faithfulness is great. Your faithfulness is great. Your faithfulness is great. No one like you, I ask of you. Your faithfulness is great. Your faithfulness is great. Your faithfulness is great. No one like you, I ask of you. Your faithfulness is great.
You are my life Your fidelity is great Your fidelity is incomparable Come to me, Lord Come to me, Lord Thank you, Lord Heavenly Father, Lord Jesus Christ, Holy Spirit I ask you, my God, that your blessing be upon each person and each family that has come to your service today And those who are watching behind a screen, Lord Jesus Christ, also, Heavenly Father, in the name of Jesus, Heavenly Father, that you keep and take care of their lives, Lord Jesus Christ, and that their lives, Lord, may reflect you, Lord. I ask you with all my heart, blessed God, and thank you, Heavenly Father, for the grace, for the love, for the mercy, Lord, that you give us. Help us to do the same with the other people, in the name of Jesus. Amen. Amen. Goodbye. Goodbye.
