Lust Is Tempting, But This Controls It (Pastor Explains)
In this video from one of my live events, people got vulnerable about the things most Christians never say out loud. Lust they can't shake. Heartbreak they can't move past. Loneliness in their singleness that nobody at church knows how to address. Guilt over a loss so heavy it still hasn't lifted.
Um Sorry, it's okay take your time I've been struggling for this for a while now and it has to do with lust How do you really trick satan in general like with thoughts and like how to believe so your job is to take these lustful thoughts And bring it to the word of god. I wanted to know some ways that I could completely obliterate sexual temptation You're a righteous person that satan is trying to drag back into sin. You have to remember your identity How do we forgive someone who causes so much pain? And heartache I think number one to address the bigger issue here is not forgiving that person But it seems like you have a need of a heart to forgive yourself How you doing, my name is uh gabriel Kind of nervous, uh, I just started watching the pod last week and I found out about the event in new orleans, uh, two days ago amen, um As a returning christian and a man that's renewing my faith. I wanted to know some ways that I could completely obliterate sexual temptation So the temptation is not the sin Everybody has thoughts. Uh, jesus was tempted right, but he didn't allow it to define his identity Understand so in the same way you're gonna have lust you're gonna have these things when you agree with it when it's consensual That's when it becomes a problem understand. That's why i'm teaching cutting it at the root distrusting your thoughts So me too. I was big on cocaine for me. It was cocaine and hennessey My my literal saying in life was anything's possible right, you know, i'm just being real I would be like that and then When you know even till this day I have thoughts man, i'm so tired right I run off for three hours of sleep We're traveling back and forth. I'm like man if I just do a bumpy right if I do a line i'll be all right No one would know but then i'm like wait a minute Second corinthians 5 17 says i'm a new creature those who are in christ made new All the old has passed past tense. It's gone So either jesus is a liar and my thoughts are right and this feels right Or god is not a liar. The word of god is true. I need to accept this above my thoughts Understand what i'm saying? So satan will tell you you're a sinner. You're struggling with temptation You're going through this process of sanctification
Okay makes sense, but you're not a sinner struggling with sin or trying to become righteous You're a righteous person that satan is trying to drag back into sin and understand what i'm saying You're righteous. You're holy through the bible not because of you you have to remember your identity Understand what i'm saying? But if you don't remember your identity you trust your thoughts Then you'll be pulled back to your old identity And even though i've read the bible many times and I have pastor if I trust my thoughts even above pastor and myself I'll go right back to my old lifestyle. It doesn't matter how many stages i've done. We're doing stadiums soon Doesn't matter right at the end of the day I'm, just going to trust my thoughts. So you have to learn that. Oh, i'm a person If I trust my thoughts i'll fall into sexual sin But if I trust the word of god, how can I fall into sexual sin? You can't right so you have to get more in your word and yes, you will mess up. That's not a problem God is going to change those things but you need true biblical bible believing church that preaches true gospel Right and teaches you that salvificly it's finished. It's done positionally. You're sanctified You have to trust the word of god above your thoughts. That's the the unlock right every question can be answered with this Distrust your thoughts follow the word of god If you don't have the word of god follow somebody who knows the word of god So a lot of these people here follow me online because they don't have the word of god But as i'm speaking they start to then hear the word of god and a lot of us here We got pastors kids here We got people who literally sit there and have read the bible one time two times three times front to back, right? So you learn as you kind of go through this program So you need somebody who can teach you biblically whether it's me whether it's here Get into a church that will teach you biblically. That's the most important thing. Hi, johnny. My name is noel Um, I just want to say thank you for coming out here and uh talking to all of us I was in a relationship for a few years and I was wondering how do you deal with uh heartbreak as a christian? So I think um heartbreak is a really good time for you to be in solitude Right when you're broken god says he's near makes sense You're here obviously because if you were with your girl and everything was all fine and dandy
You probably wouldn't be here, right? So it's good to have like a broken heart at times because solitude is a place where you can spend time with god, too You can reflect you can have self-awareness. So it's not a bad thing that your heart is broken I have my heart broken many times right but at the end of the day if you Build on the relationship that bleeds into every other relationship, which is a relationship with God, you'll be good. Understand what I'm saying? So you'll be good with being alone. It's because your relationship is not strengthened inside of God, so you lean on other people's hearts to then pull out of them. Does that make sense? You can never depend on a human being respectfully because human beings change. You can always rely on God though. So if you build your... So this is a perfect opportunity bro for you to build your relationship with God, be in your word, be in the gospel, pray, get closer to him because that relationship bleeds into every other relationship and people will see God in your heart and they'll gravitate towards you. Amen, amen. Thank you, John. What does it mean to submit to your spouse as we submit to the Lord? Good question. So a lot of people use that in kind of in a misogynistic way. The context of what Paul was speaking about was the church and the bride, right? So the bride, I'm sorry, in the bridegroom. So we are, who's our true husband? Jesus, right? So we are to submit to Jesus Christ. Understand what I'm saying? Also when it says like honor your parents, of course you should respect your parents, but we honor our parents because we're saved. We don't honor them to be saved. Understand what I'm saying? In the same way, people try to honor and go, look, look God, I'm proving to you that I'm saved. No, you honor your spouse because you're saved, right? But both of you guys have to be salvifically centered, gospel centered, meaning I'm going to put God in his will first. And if you put God in his will first as well, we're not going to fight. We're going to be fine. Understand? But there's misalignment when someone sits there and goes, I'm better than you. See, I'm more submitted than you. And then the other person's like, no, I'm more submitted than you. Nobody argues like this. Hey babe, I'm more wrong. Okay. They always argue like this. I'm more right. You're wrong. I'm right. You're wrong, right? Your job is to submit under the authority of the true husband, which is all of ours is Jesus Christ. That's what it means. Understand when you submit to him, everything bleeds in because when you search the kingdom of heaven first, right? When you seek the kingdom of heaven first, all else will be added unto you. So your job is not to glorify your man. It's to glorify the man,
God, Jesus Christ. Amen. Hi. Sorry. It's okay. Take your time. I've been struggling for this for a while now and it has to do with lust. But I guess just my question is in general, like how do you really trick Satan in general, like with thoughts and like how to believe in God? So God tells us in second Corinthians 10, five, take every single thought captive. So your job is to bring it to the obedience of Christ, right? Well, how do you do that? Well, Jesus Christ is what the Bible says. Not only our Messiah, not only Emmanuel, but if you look at John 1 14, he is the word. It says the word was made flesh dwelt among us, right? So your job is to take these lustful thoughts and bring it to the word of God. God, my thoughts tell me this, I'm lustful on this and that. But second Corinthians five 17 says I'm a new creature. So either God is lying and I'm right, or I'm wrong and God is right, right? So you have to trust the word of God above your thoughts. Same thing, brother. I struggle with the same things you struggle with, right? I have thoughts, I have feelings, I have emotions too. The old BC Johnny comes out from time to time before Christ, right? Right. Let somebody cut me off. I'm over. I'm doing this. Oh, sorry. Right. Right. So also I think, but I go, wait a minute, where are my thoughts coming from? Oh, this is not from me. Word of God says new creature. So he cannot lie. That's one thing. God can do a lot of things, but he cannot lie. Understand you have to trust his word. Hey Johnny. So my question is, what do you think about dating? Like as a young child, because I know a lot of, I know a lot of couples, not a lot, but I know like a decent amount of couples that have like, and like high school lovers and then like gradually got like married and stuff. Yeah. Um, you know, I think you shouldn't focus on dating relationships. I think you should focus on the relationship that bleeds into all other relationships, right? Which is God. So how can you, how can you love somebody or learn to love somebody when you don't even know how to love a perfect God who deserves love when you don't know how to submit to a perfect person. And then you're, you're met with this person who has all these flaws. You get what I'm saying? It's going to have issues. So when you work in. solitude, when you grow in the gospel, when you focus on God, then you genuinely will grow as a person and people will just come to you. They'll be drawn to you. God, through the church, will choose, right? I mean, certain churches will pair people because pastors, at least in my church,
will be able to see, okay, this sister, through the Holy Spirit, you know, through guidance, through scripture, is good and compatible with this person. Things that you can't see, your blind spots that other people can see, they can pair it together. And if you look at the Bible, that's biblical because, you know, Rebecca, you know, we got Adam and Eve. It wasn't like Adam was like, I need to get me a girl now, right? Like he was just tilling the ground. He was literally dressing the vineyard and God gave him that. So when you're focused on your calling, bro, that's what attracts a biblical scriptural woman. You understand what I'm saying? More than your looks, more than your swag, more than all that. And I'm saying you shouldn't focus on those things. Be healthy, be active, but that's not the main thing, right? Attraction, there has to be a spiritual attraction and a spiritual connection, not just, oh, he's good looking, she's good looking. All right, let's stay, let's work it out. Let's come to God together. No, why not be at God and then she meets you at God too. And then you guys have that center line. Amen. Thank you. Alrighty, brother. No, big struggle of mine recently has been, you know, lusting with the eyes, 100%. So when I started my walk, that was a big thing for me. I struggled with the porn addiction with, you know, obviously masturbation, you know, and addiction to sex, 100%, you know, and, you know, I'm glad to say I've truly, you know, I'm free from all of that now, you know, but I've been trying to give it to the Lord recently and calling out to him and really getting into prayer and giving it to him and saying, you know, why Lord do I still like, man, like it's, I've been getting prayed over and people have been answering my questions, my brothers in Christ, you know, have been helping me out a lot, but I'm always still dealing with it. You know, I'm still dealing with, you know, lusting with the eyes. I'm still like, man, let me go text this girl. Let me go text that girl, you know? So how do I really truly give it to the Lord and not fall into it? You want to know how to stop sinning completely? You got to die, die, understand? It's impossible because you have the flesh. Make sense? Everybody has lust, bro. People deal with it. Women too, right? God, that's why it's important to be in your word because the more you learn your word, you're able to combat those things. But you also have to understand it's the same thing that draws you closer to God too. Paul said, I have a thorn on my side. I went to you three times. You didn't remove it. Understand why? Because that's what kept Paul close to God. Make sense? It's why can't God get rid of all your sins? Of course he can snap of a finger, remove it. Why doesn't he? Because you'd
be a monster if you don't sin. Do you understand what I'm saying? You would be high-hearted like a Pharisee. Look at me, I'm better than you. You still struggle with lust? Understand, right? He makes it to where you mess up so that you have to seek him because we don't seek him when we're good. Are you following me here? So you actually have to be like, Father God, I know you want me to seek you by your grace and by your God, your will. Pray this prayer, right? Lord, if you feel like this is bad for me, please remove it. But if you don't, then please also allow me not to condemn myself, rather conviction. Allow that to follow, me to follow you through this, God. God, you take care of it. That is seeking God in all things. A lot of people want their own will. God, remove this, remove this, remove this. Understand? He's not a magic eraser. Make sense? We have to treat God like God. What do you think about this? Do you see what I'm doing? You could easily stop me. If you're not stopping me, give me the heart to accept and move on. Give me the heart to grow. Let your will be done, basically. Does that make sense? Amen? So pray that way, bro, and try it. I bet you you'll change. Johnny, it's very nice to meet you. I'm mad nervous right now. It's mad brick, it's okay. It's okay. Mad is different. I identify with a lot of the things I've seen in your interviews and testimony, like Section 8, welfare, food stamps. But the one thing where I was like, man, God really put this in my algorithm or whatever, was when you started talking about OCD. And when I got sober, you talked about addiction. So there was a lot of like one-to-one. So thank you for just following God's call. My pleasure. And so in that, in my sobriety, and then coming to Christ, and OCD, and all of that, I had to leave a whole world behind. The streets, the block, nine and it can get incredibly lonely doing the right thing and so sometimes in my singleness I feel like sometimes people in the church just go well Jesus was single and they try to like pacify it and it's been a struggle so a word of encouragement I guess is the question yeah I think you know like I was mentioning right first and foremost appreciate you for being vulnerable and sharing that God wants us to recognize in solitude you work on the relationship that bleeds into all other relationships right so God wants us to recognize that when two or three are gathered obviously God is there but there's a heart to kind of solidify when you're working with God alone right you don't recognize there's a lot of things that's that God is refining when you're in solitude with him right so the one thing I want you to know is not to trust your thoughts
because the way you think is gonna affect the way you feel the way you feel behavior right I would say a Bible verse for you is Jeremiah 29 verse 11 for I know the thoughts that I have of you thoughts of peace not of evil to give you an expected end another verse that's really good is 2nd Corinthians 517 God tells us that you're a new creature all the old ways have passed all has made new and what this means is you're a new person you're a pillar bro in the tabernacle essentially you will draw people to you as you walk in peace as you walk with God so as you continue to walk just share bro share your testimony be vulnerable you got a really good testimony so be vulnerable with people because everybody right they speak this universal language of depression universal language of loneliness and bro when you're able to free people they have this heart to really love you with the heart of God as well so you got to build God is putting you so he can you can build communities as well amen Gloria de Oz palabra sorry I'm a little nervous so recently I was in an abusive three-year relationship and it was really hard and I had ended up getting pregnant with my son and I ended up losing him which was really hard and I was seven months so I never told him but I have so much love and I blame myself for staying in that relationship because I knew that I should have left and my question is how do we forgive someone who causes so much pain and heartache because I always feel like something's missing and I don't want to blame that person but how do I forgive someone who's caused me so much trauma and pain thank you for being vulnerable and sharing that sister I think number one to address the bigger issue here actually is not forgiving that person but it seems like you have in need of a heart to forgive yourself actually that's the most important thing for that I would give you Romans chapter 8 verse 1 it says there is now no more condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus who walk not after the flesh but after the spirit what that means is whenever you feel thoughts of condemnation I shouldn't have done this was wrong with me do not mistaken condemnation for conviction you following me here negative evil intrusive thoughts like that is not from God because think about it God could
have easily saved he could have easily tweaked things he allowed these things to roll out so that you can live by faith and become closer to him does that make sense so we have to believe that every thought that's negative and goes against the Word of God which is condemning is not from God so that's number one God has already forgiven you for those things he's allowed those things to happen he's also forgiven your significant other the person that you're speaking about now and we have to again go back to looking at people with the lens of the word looking at the situation with the lens of the word rather than our feelings so if you're in your emotions when you forgive one day you'll forgive them then the next day they'll do something to trigger you again and you're not forgiving them so you'll keep living this rollercoaster lifestyle because situations change we should never trust situations that change we should always trust the Word of God that never changes are you following me here so try to focus on the word more when you feel negative condemning thoughts no those are not from God and if it's not from God you don't have to listen to it number one number two that person your significant other as you grow spiritually they'll be able to also see you grow spiritually It's all timing you cannot force it, but you should also share your heart about that in a non condemning way But more of a convicting way look at us We lost a kid where people who truly focused on ourselves that other things had to suffer because of that our kid Unborn right yet. I think we should really focus on God now. Don't you think? Questioning these things making him think about these things is important. It's not to condemn them Oh, you did this because of you not that heart. It's more of when we trusted myself me, too I trusted myself. Look what happened as a result. Let's stop trusting ourselves Let's try and grow with God because I do love you and I do care about you But I feel like there's something missing what's missing is the gospel centered inside of your life God centered inside of your life That's what's missing. Amen You
