Satan Loves This…
Why do you keep falling for the same temptations? Johnny Chang breaks down how Jesus fought Satan in the wilderness, not through feelings or opinion but by standing on scripture alone, and reveals why true spiritual growth isn't about interpreting the Bible but fully surrendering to it. This teaching unpacks sin, identity, and the Holy Spirit in a way that will completely shift how you read God's word.
to your temptation that's from Satan? So if you don't know scripture, how can you fight Satan? When you're reading the Bible and you're trying to figure out how do I interpret this, that's not the goal. The goal is not interpretation, it is submission. If you only follow when you agree, who is God? You are. If you haven't read the Bible, then you're going to go off of your feelings. Think about it carefully here. If you're not in your word, where are you? You're in your feelings. One more time. If you're not in your word, you're in your feelings. Guys, why is it so important to be in your word? Can I tell you? Because it is literally the weapon and the blueprint that Jesus uses against the enemy. How? Let me ask you guys something. How does Jesus fight Satan, guys? So when Jesus was taken up to the mountain and tempted in the wilderness by Satan, not coshims that of him, Satan. Lucy, the serpentine one. What did he say to him? He said, "If you be the son of God, turn these stones into bread." What does Jesus respond?
In my opinion, in my belief, I think I feel I rebuke thee. Let's shut them out of the eye and cast it out the demon. No. What did he say? "It is written, man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that preceded out of the mouth of God." How does he say it? "It is written," right? Second thing. Satan comes and he says, "Throw yourself off the cliff for the angels shall not allow you to dash your foot." What does Jesus say? It is written, "Do not tempt the Lord your God. Do not." It is written. So how does he respond? It is written, it is written, it is written. Sheesh. Jesus himself utilized scripture. Deuteronomy and all these different scriptures so I remember to speak to Satan. Does it make sense now why you keep falling to your temptation that's from Satan? Because it directly correlates with how much you know about scripture. So if you don't know scripture, how can you fight Satan? You cannot.
You will get as we say in the streets, bullbobbed. You will get beat up. That's like an amateur trying to fight Mike Tyson. You're gonna get stretched literally on a stretcher. Understand what I'm saying? So I'm gonna ask you guys and be honest here, how many times have you guys completed the Bible, read the Bible, contextually, front to back, start to finish Genesis to Revelation. How many times and be honest here? And it will directly correlate with your spiritual life. I promise you, how many times? Zero, zero, zero, never, never, zero, zero, never read it, amen. I'll be honest, right? And let's be real here. If you've never read the Bible, how then do you expect to fight Satan when he comes? You can't, right? So your life most likely looks like this. Sin, repent, happy, sad. Happy, sad, happy, sad, happy, sad. Sin, repent, sin, repent, sin, repent. Up and down, up and down, up and down. Am I wrong? Am I lying? Or is that true? Happy when you're happy? Yeah, when you mess up, sad. Happy, sad, happy, sad, happy, sad, happy, sad.
And then what? Emptiness. Why? Because we don't know scripture. That's why. It's not because you guys are weak. It's not because you're dumb. It's not because you're illiterate. It's because there's no weapon to fight him. That's why I tell you guys, right? I didn't read the Bible front to back 25 times the flex. I read the Bible because I literally need the Bible. I have to replace my thoughts with the word. Otherwise, I'll live like that too. Are you guys understanding what I'm saying? So Jesus Christ did the same thing. He says it in 2 Timothy, chapter two, verse 15. Study to show yourself approved, rightly dividing the truth. Meaning why do you have to divide the truth from the fake? You have to divide the light from the darkness. You understand? That's what he was teaching us. If Jesus quoted scripture, if John quoted scripture, if Paul quoted scripture, we have to do the same. So it's okay, it's okay, right? It's okay to not know scripture, that's fine. But this has to then convict you and go, oh man, I genuinely got to get in my word. Like I said, if you're not in your word, you're in your feelings. Second thing you have to do is not only get into your word,
but you have to submit to the word. Let me explain why that's very important. Surrendering to the word is very simple guys. It is trusting the word of God above your thoughts. It is trusting the word, regardless if it makes sense to you or not or confirms what you feel or not. That's what trusting is. Do you guys understand what I'm saying? So think about this. Why is it dangerous to just read your word and not submit to the word? Because then you become Satan. How? Satan knows all scripture. The one thing he doesn't have, surrender. So what happens when you know scripture and can quote it, but no surrender? Satan arises out of you like Pharisees, understand? Understand? That's why surrender is so important. Spiritual life is not what you can gain. I gain knowledge, I gain peace, I gain happiness. Those are byproducts of surrender. Spiritual life is what you can let go. Letting go of your self-righteousness, your ego, your pride, your wisdom, letting that go. Spiritual life is not what can I gain like most of you guys think because that's a lie and deception from Satan Spiritual life is what can I let go? What can I surrender? Fire do you understand what I'm saying good people don't teach this anymore I don't know if you guys know but your parents your grandparents back in their time people cared about getting to heaven They didn't care about living well in this earth. They were like as long as they get to heaven That's important. Amen. Their eyes were fixated on heaven instead of carnally now a days. It's weird
There's a shift people don't care about heaven no more There's very few people that preach kingdom messages anymore. What they care about is prosperity Making money aligning your job with the word of God That's what they care about because people no longer care about getting to heaven They're trying to make heaven here and a lot of us should be convicted because we do the same Let's keep it real. Do you guys understand what I'm saying? We preach the kingdom message not just I'm smarter than you and I'm better than you and I'm more holier than that And looking how much I can flex we don't care Understand what I'm saying what we care about is is Jesus edified or are you edified? Jesus has to be edified guys amen everybody agrees on this. There's no discrepancies about that That's what we need to focus on and what does Jesus focus on the gospel his testimony Why because without his testimony you can't get to heaven. He wants all of us to get to heaven So what is surrendering then very simple to surrender to God means to trust God and his decision and his word Regardless whether you agree with it or not. Are you guys understanding? Let me repeat it if you don't trusting God is giving up on your thoughts in your logic and Trusting the word of God even when it goes against your logic and your feelings because that's what trust is otherwise its Confirmation makes sense guys. So how do you do that? Well? I can show you in real time for example if God says that you are a new creature second Corinthians 5 17 those who are in Christ Jesus are new creatures all the old ways have passed past tense behold Everything is made new you're a new creature. You're a new person Not being made new already new second Corinthians 5 17 we quoted the scripture, but then you have a thought I'll use myself for example thought comes in Johnny. Let's do bumpy's booger sugar That was my thing back then Hennessy and bumpy's Hand-in-hand like peanut butter and jelly the Bible says one word Johnny you're a new creature You're old bumpy's and handed anything as possible as gone Understand, but Johnny Chang's thoughts comes aka Satan's thoughts. Hey, but let's do this. You're tired, right? One line whoo you be alright, right? It's just one. It's okay. Who's right? Well, Jesus can't lie and say you're a new creature when you're not that would make him a liar So my thoughts are wrong. That's when you have to sit and go. Oh, that's from the enemy. That's a lie
If I follow this then it's gonna bleed into me and I will act that way and sin But if I trust the word of God, I will rebuke those thoughts. I will fight with those thoughts No, I'm a new creature these feelings false cuz feelings lie to you. They go up and down my thoughts wrong Cuz they're not from me. They're from the enemy and then I'll hold on to the word This is how you fight, but if you don't know the word thought comes in I'm angry I'm angry you just accept because you don't have anything to fight it for and fight with understand That's why all the core of the heart congregation They all start to read their Bibles because when they learn this from me, they're like oh, I need to get in my word The word is life thy words is spirit and truth. It says it activates the spirit and is the truth But our thoughts lie to us no matter how much our thoughts make sense to us. It's still a lie What God wants us to? Understand here you have to trust in the word of God if you don't know the word of God make sense Then how then can you do that right guys got it? Do I need to memorize Bible verses to grow spiritually brother? You can quote scripture off the top. It's very very amazing. I'd like to get there someday interesting So a lot of people think that you have to memorize scripture to grow spiritually How much do you guys think how much do you guys agree with this you guys think if you memorize scripture that equates to you growing spiritually? So a lot of people think if I don't have a ton of scripture memorize then I'm not growing with God first and foremost Scripture is not to be memorized. It's to be trusted. It's to be accepted scripture is not just to be memorized more than memorization It's to be trusted is to be believed do you guys understand what I'm saying reading scripture is not for biblical trivia or spiritual trivia It's about conforming to that word whether it makes sense or not and applying it into your life. That's what it means because it's so impactful, how can you not memorize it? You understand what I'm saying? You grow by trusting what the word of God says. You understand? And hearing the word of God. So of course, you should try to memorize it, but I mean, it's helpful. Sure. You have to trust the word of God, though, more than anything. Amen?
It's not a gift that you can quote it off top. It's more of I'm going to read it to grow. Understand because you don't need to understand or even memorize the entire Bible to grow. We know this, but you definitely need to believe in what the Bible says and everything in the Bible. Do you understand what I'm saying? So that's what it comes down to, guys, at the end of the day. So of course, having verses stored in your head, having verses stored in your heart allows us to fight temptation and all those things, of course. But more than anything, you're supposed to anchor in the word, meaning trust in the word. Not just, oh, I know scripture. Do you know who memorized a lot of scripture and no scripture by heart? Satan, do you understand? But what's his issue? He knows all scripture very well. He even uses it and quotes Deuteronomy against Jesus. It is also written, he says, when you throw yourself off, the angels will not allow you to dash your foot. He says this, right? But what's the issue with Satan? He's not surrendered, and he doesn't trust God. You see the difference? So you can know a lot of scripture and not be surrendered, and that would make you a Pharisee. So surrender, meaning trusting the word of God above your thoughts and your feelings, that's the most important thing. That's how you grow. Do you understand what I'm saying? The goal here isn't to quote the Bible. It's to surrender and accept the Bible when you quote the Bible. You guys got that? So surrendering to the word, trusting in the word is no matter what it says, whether it makes sense to me or not, I am going to accept it.
Historically, contextually, lexiconically, illogically, if I have to, it doesn't matter. Do you understand what I'm saying? Surrender is not, oh, it makes sense. I'll accept it. It doesn't make sense. I'll reject it. That's not surrender here. You're surrendering to yourself, then, in self-righteousness. Whether it makes sense to you or not, you are to believe it. Do you guys understand what I'm saying? That is what true biblical surrender is. So you have to let the word shape your trust, not just your memory, bars one more time. Don't just allow this scripture, the word, to shape your memory. It needs to shape your trust as well. You guys got that? Can you talk about interpreting scripture? How do I know that I'm interpreting it correctly, then? Good follow-up question. So how do I know if I'm interpreting scripture correctly or the right way? Certain Bible verses you read and you're wondering, how do I know this is exactly what it says? Because you don't want to mess up. You don't want to misinterpret. You don't want to add your own interpretation. The scripture is not a riddle to figure out. It's the word that needs to be trusted. So the issue is not your interpretation or your skills to interpret. It is your acceptance. Do you accept it exactly as it is? Second Peter chapter 1 verse 20 talks about this, knowing this first, that no manner of prophecy
of the scripture is for any private interpretation. Do you understand what I'm saying? So you don't get to make up what you think it is. The Bible interprets itself through the spirit, through context, through the scripture. Just like that. You guys understand what I'm saying here? So again, when you're reading the Bible and you're trying to figure out how do I interpret this, that's not the goal. The goal is not interpretation. It is submission. Sheesh. That's a bar. Are you supposed to interpret the Bible or are you supposed to submit to the Bible? Which one? And if you ask this question, how do I submit if I don't understand? Oh, so you only submit when you understand? Then who are you submitting it to? Because you're putting your own filter on it. And if it makes sense, you surrender. And if you only agree and follow when you agree, then who are you truly following? Yourself. You understand what I'm saying? If I only follow something that I agree with, that means I'm following myself and my interpretation. Do you understand what I'm saying? Right? So if you ask, why am I submitting to a word I don't know? That means you're saying I'm not going to submit to something that's infinite and way beyond my wisdom and preserved over thousands of years. I'm going to trust myself. Okay, then you're trusting self, not God.
Understand? Then you can't say that you're even submitted to God. You understand what I'm saying? So you're not asked to interpret the word to match your feelings. You're called to accept the word even when it confronts your feelings. Sheesh. Put that on a shirt. Understand what I'm saying, guys? You're not asked to interpret the word to match your feelings. You're called to accept the word even when they confront your feelings. Do you guys understand what I'm saying here? The message that he speaks will never contradict his word. Truth is objective. It's not flexible. It's not up for interpretation. So you have to understand contextually. Scripture is very beautiful in this way. Pears your feelings, your thoughts, your pride, understand? If the Bible is a sword and it cuts through you, then how can you interpret something like that? We don't interpret the Bible is what I'm saying. The Bible interprets us. My gosh. Do you understand what I'm saying? We don't interpret the Bible. The Bible interprets us. It reveals us. It exposes us. That's what it is. Amen. You guys understand what I'm saying? People think I got to read the Bible. What is this? None of the Bible is reading you. It's exposing you, showing you who you are. P always get this question. If the Bible is called the Holy Bible, why is there so many things like slavery, you know murder and you know all grape and you know all this stuff? Why, bro? Why? Because the Bible is a mirror. It's interpreting you. It's showing you who you are. And that's why we need mercy and grace and love from God. You understand what I'm saying? Hallelujah. How do you start to read the Bible for a newbie? Start from Genesis. Join a community or a gospel-centered community specifically and read to accept not to understand. Because if you're reading to understand, first and foremost, you won't understand because there's so much context. There's so much things happening in the natural tongue, the lexicon, as we say. There's so many things happening that we can't. We don't know. It's like trying to do a physics math problem when I don't even know addition. So we need to then go to a teacher, find the community, the right teacher who's gospel-centered, somebody who will walk you through it. And then as you get better, you get better, right? Amen. Amen. Amen. Please don't promote your churches in here. Don't promote other people in here. Just promote Jesus. Shh! Shh! Johnny, what do I do when people make fun of my faith? Wow. Beautiful. Beautiful. Beautiful.
So we've all been through it. What do we do when people make fun of our faith? What do you guys think? So obviously it hurts our feelings as Bible-believing Christians who experience the love of God and they mock that love of God for Jesus, right? Amen. Let me explain something to you. It would be an issue if people didn't mock you. Because biblically speaking, being mocked is a sign that you belong to Jesus Christ. Amen. Shh! Have you ever thought about it like that? Second Timothy 3, 12 talks about this, living for Jesus and suffering his persecution. If no one ever challenges your faith, chances are you're not doing God's work. You're doing the devil's work. Because Satan is not going to mock or provoke you if you're doing his work. He's gonna keep you on that path. You understand what I'm saying? Mockery is proof that your light agitates their darkness. You understand what I'm saying here? Your light exposes their darkness and they don't like that. A lot of people don't like to be exposed, so they mock you. Ad hominem you. Make fun of you. Do you understand what I'm saying? The Bible also tells us in 1 Peter chapter 4 verse 14, Peter speaks about this. Be happy when you're mocked because it's proof that the spirit is resting on you, it says. So people mock us all day, call us heretics, all kinds of stuff. We ain't tripping. Understand we're happy about that. Why? The glory of God, the spirit of God rests on you when you're mocked. You should be happy. Hallelujah. And you have to understand something. When people mock you or attack you, they're not attacking or mocking you because you've been crucified. They are attacking and mocking the Jesus in you. They're not mocking you. They're mocking the Jesus in you. Proof, yet again, that Jesus is in you. Because when you weren't talking about Jesus, they wasn't tripping. When I wasn't talking about Jesus, they wasn't tripping. They wouldn't dare disrespect me when I wasn't Christian. Now that I'm Christian, the disrespect is flying. Send a button drum, right? Just shooting, boom, boom, boom, boom, disrespecting me. But when I was about that, nobody was tripping. Nobody gonna say nothing about me. Like I said, the disrespect is proof that people are agitated by the Jesus inside of you. Now I'm not saying to go and just dump them back and fight them. No, no, it's an honor to suffer for God is what I'm saying. Amen. It's an honor. If they mock Jesus Christ, what makes you think they're not gonna mock you? If they invalidated the most validated person, which is Jesus, what makes you think they're not gonna disrespect and invalidate you? If they made lies about Jesus, what makes you think they're not gonna lie about you and lie on your name? Honestly, I saw how Jesus fought Satan. It wasn't through prayer. It wasn't even through fasting. In fact, after he got done fasting, he was tempted by Satan. He fought when he was fasted. Can I show you guys how he did it? When in Matthew 4, Satan brings Jesus up on the mountain and he says, "If thou be the Son of God, turn these stones into bread." Notice how Jesus doesn't go, in my opinion, in my belief. He doesn't even sit there and pray to God right there. What does he say? Pay attention here. He says, "It is written." "out of the mouth of God." Satan says, "Oh yeah, throw yourself off of a cliff "for the angels shall not allow you to dash your foot." He goes, "It is written."
Okay, look at all these kingdoms whom God hath given me, bow to me and they shall be yours. It is written, serve only God." Now let me ask you guys something. What did he use to fight him? My opinion, my belief, what I think, feel and see? I rebuke you, I pray you away. (speaking in foreign language) Is that what he did? I think he said, "It is written." Which is what? (speaking in foreign language) The word of God. Now let me explain something to you guys. Isn't this a blueprint on how to fight temptation? Yes. So if Jesus says the word and he himself, God himself in the flesh, use the word. Does it now make sense why you keep failing if you're not reading the word? Does it now make sense when I ask the question, how many of you guys are in your scripture and you go, "Ugh." How many times have you finished the Bible, front to back? Mm, 0.1 times, 0.1, 0.75. Okay, cool. I'm not trying to shame you all for that. I'm just trying to get it clear that you're probably struggling with salvation,
temptation, intrusive thoughts, anger, frustration, lust, envy, hate, jealousy. Not because you suck, but because you're not study different s's. You don't suck, you are children of God, but you're not studied. And because of that, you only interpret with your thoughts, your feelings, your emotions, and what happens with feelings and emotions is that they're bad. Why? It's finite, they go up and down. They change. Today you're happy, tomorrow you're sad. This morning you're sad, and nighttime you're happy. You wake up sad again, happy at nighttime. It's this constant roller coaster. So if you trust your feelings, then you will keep living like a roller coaster. Would you agree? Am I spitting? Why? Because Holy Spirit understands heart posture. Many people don't know this. Jesus himself says sin is unbelief. In me, in order for you to trust in Jesus, you have to deny yourself. But what do we do?
We filter everything with self, even sermons, even the word of God. We put our own lens on it. Oh, if I agree, amen, this is from God. If I don't agree, this isn't from God. Well, let me ask you something. If you only follow when you agree, who is God in your life? Who is the leader? Who's the judge? Who's the decision maker? You are. Do you understand what I'm saying? When people sit here and they go, I don't trust anybody. You know what they're saying? I only trust me. And if that's the case, if you only trust you, then you're your own God. And if you're your own God, you can't submit to God, amen? So this is the scary thing that people don't realize. That's the unlock here. Satan doesn't tell you to believe in Satan. In hell, Satan, he just says, trust yourself. And little by little, you won't even realize you're falling into his trap. Trust yourself so you can live happy, sad, up and down, sin, repents, and repents, and repent until you feel empty.
And when that emptiness comes, he starts to talk to you. You lay in bed at night. One thought comes, simple thought. Oh, I'm tired today. Oh, I'm a little tired. That one thought spirals to why am I tired? I don't really do anything. Dang, I'm not, I realize I'm not doing nothing with my life. Man, that sister, that brother, that person, that person, that person, they got all their stuff together. How come I don't get myself together? Oh, it's been so long. Boom, random flashbacks come up. Why did I do that? I didn't have that one night stand. Why did I share this with this person? I'm so stupid. What's wrong with me? I'm so dumb. I call myself a Christian. Why did I even do that? I can't believe it. Now you don't realize. One thought has spiraled into 50 thoughts. You will literally start to feel pressure in your chest. You will literally feel this, it's like this callous, this feeling. And you can't even go,
it feels like someone's stepping on your chest. And if you keep letting it go, tears will come down your face and you will feel unworthy less than, you'll feel disappointed, you'll feel deflated. And if you let that go even deeper, one thought always comes in. The last thought, if you pay attention deeply next time, it's always, I don't know why I'm alive. I should unalive. I have nothing, therefore I am nothing and therefore even if I unalive, God is telling us something today. Are you gonna trust your thoughts, thoughts that keep changing, thoughts that are one minute happy, next minute sad? Or are you gonna trust the word of God? Like a lot of us, for example, don't know what true sin is. A lot of us think that sin is an action, but it's not just an action. It's actually deeper than that. We call our podcast, "Unlearned Wisdom." Why? Because there's a lot of things we have to unlearn. Amen? A lot of you guys think that. Oh, sin is an action, you know? If I continue to do evil things and I disobey the law and I turn away from God, that's what sin is, not necessarily.
The Bible speaks about these things really differently. Sin isn't just behavior, it's a condition of birth. What? Wild, right? So is sin something you do? Guys, is sin something you do? I ask you a question here, let's think about this. Is sin something you guys do? Yes, like a lot of people see a lot of people saying yes, right? Yes, right? See, we don't know. Sadly, make sense? Sin is not just a behavior, guys. It's a birth condition, a condition of birth. Sin is not something you do, it's something you are, right? Make sense? When you look at Ephesians 2, 3, among whom also we had our conversation in times pass, it says, right? In the lusts of our flesh and we're by nature, nature, the children of wrath, even as others. So naturally, we are natural. Children of wrath, understand what I'm saying? Right? That's what the Bible says. Identity level, not an action-based level. So Romans 5, 12, very clear. By one man, sin entered into the world, Adam. This is called original sin. So you're not a sinner when you sin.
You're a sinner, that's why you sin. You're born into sin, right? You're not made a sinner because of your actions, guys. You're born into sin because of Adam. Are you following me here, right? Sin is a position, it's not a decision. And it's a position before the decision. Is it making sense here? So I'm Chinese. I didn't choose to be Chinese. I was born that way because it was inherited from my father, his father, his father, his father. Right? In the same way, you didn't choose to be a sinner. You were born that way. But imagine if I told you, stop sinning. Would be the same as if you told me, hey Johnny, stop being Chinese. Or be less Chinese. Sin less. How? Well, you gotta eat less orange chicken. You definitely gotta use more of the fork. Don't use chopsticks. Don't practice kung fu. Don't listen to Chinese opera music. Do you understand what I'm saying now? Most people don't understand that, right? And so in Romans 519, it says, one man's disobedience, Adam, many were made sinners.
All were made sinners. But through one man's obedience, many are made righteous. So Jesus made you righteous. Adam made you a sinner, but Jesus made you righteous. You understand what I'm saying, guys? You understand? So again, sin is a position before it's a decision. Understand? And then people don't understand, right? Common pushbacks to this would be, well, sin is transgression of the law. Yes, that's the fruit, but not the root. Do you know what that means? Paul is speaking. You sin because you're a sinner and born that way, not the other way around. You don't become a sinner or more sinful after you were born that way. Just like I don't become more Chinese. I could act not Chinese at all and be like Jeremy, my COO, right, CFO, understand? I could act white and, you know, never speak a lick of Mandarin. I'm still Chinese. Do you guys understand what I'm saying here? Well, makes sense. So just like you breathe because you're human, not to become human, it's the same thing. You sin because you're human, you're born that way. You don't become it when you do it.
You're already that, that's why you do it. Does that make sense, guys? So the issue here is people don't believe in the new identity, they believe in the old identity. But when you look at Romans chapter six verse six, right? Your old man has already been crucified past tense, meaning hung on the cross already with Jesus, that the body of sin is destroyed. And from here on, you should not serve sin. That's what it says. So it's not this mindset, Western theology of, you're working towards righteousness. No, you're already righteous in him 'cause you're crucified with him. You're not fixing your old self, guys. You're already made new. Second Corinthians 5, 17. You're not half sinner, half saint. You're a brand new creature. You understand what I'm saying? But that therein lies the problem. People are arrogant to what sin is and ignorant to what sin is. They think they know what sin is. So they keep getting deceived into thinking that the sin is an action. Understand what I'm saying? So a lot of us are focused on feeling, right? The Holy Spirit. Many of us equate feeling God's presence,
the Holy Spirit to his actual presence. But the Holy Spirit is not a feeling or a presence. It's a promise, different piece. So you don't have to feel the Holy Spirit. You have to believe that it is a promise Biblically speaking, the Holy Spirit is not a feeling, it's a promise. A promise to seal you, a promise to be with you, a promise to love on you, right? A promise that you're sealed. So in Ephesians chapter one verse 13 and 14, it talks about this, right? When you heard the word of truth, you've trusted after that the gospel of your salvation in whom after you believe you are sealed with that Holy Spirit promise, right? Which is your inheritance even. So you don't feel a seal, right? It's not a feel, it's a seal as we say, right? It's similar to like when you sign a contract and there's a seal, a stamp of approval for the contract, let's say you're working, you sign a contract with your employer and why do you guys work for two weeks before getting your paycheck? Because of the promise, you don't feel the money coming into your bank account, you don't even see the money coming into your bank account, you don't feel like you're getting paid but you're working, right?
Because you believe in the promise, they promise to continue to pay you after these two weeks, you understand what I'm saying? So it's not a feel, it's a seal. What that means is, Holy Spirit is not a presence, of course it's a presence, but it's more of a promise, not a feeling. If you feel it, feelings can be deceitful and an unholy spirit which is Satan can actually spin those feelings to make you feel like that, right? Understand, 2 Corinthians 5, 7 says we walk by faith, seal and promise, not by sight. So even though we don't see it, we believe it. That's what faith is, okay? And this includes emotional sight. Two people can feel and see things, understand what I'm saying? Your job is not to be led by goosebumps, your job is to be led by the gospel, different Gs, understand? People are chasing goosebumps, feelings. Oh, if I feel it is there, no, no, you're supposed to chase the gospel, you're supposed to chase the word, you understand what I'm saying? So your job is to agree with the word and the promise instead of the feeling. So if you're praying and you don't feel the Holy Spirit, that's okay because it's not a goosebumpt thing,
it's not a performance thing, it's a belief thing. You believe that it's there even when it says it's not there or you don't feel that it's there. The Holy Spirit will always point you to Jesus in scripture 'cause it's called the spirit of truth. It never really points you to your emotions. You understand what I'm saying, Gus? It's not about your mood, it's about God's word. Do you believe in God's word? You don't have to feel God's word. If he says in three days I'm gonna resurrect, you don't have to understand it, you don't have to feel it, you just have to believe it. You understand, right? Another analogy that would help you guys, the Holy Spirit is like the sun in a cloudy day. You don't have to feel it but the earth is still getting warmed, right? You don't even have to see it but it's there. Just because the clouds cover up the sun does not mean the sun is gone in the same way, our feelings are like that. Just 'cause you don't feel the Holy Spirit does not mean it's not with you, it is always with you because God is always with you. So a lot of people what they do is they are idolizing their feelings. That's the problem. They're idolizing this feeling of something. They even doubt their salvation due to their emotion.
They don't feel saved, therefore they're not saved. That is a sign that you're idolizing your feelings above the word of God. They go to church service to chase a dopamine high not to chase the Holy Spirit, you understand? They want this emotional warmth. Ah, this emotional peace. No, if the Bible says you're peaceful and if the Bible says God is with you, it doesn't matter if you feel like he's not and you don't feel the presence. He's there 'cause he can't lie to you. So you have to think about this. Do I look for feelings or do I look for faith? That's what you have to ask yourself. Am I focused on feelings or am I focused on believing faith? The Spirit will always point you back to the truth, which is Jesus Christ, the word, the life, the truth. Never your feelings. Okay, you understand? People think feeling is being is filling. Meaning if I don't feel the Holy Spirit, then I'm not filled by the Holy Spirit. No, you're always filled by the Holy Spirit. If you believe in God, you're sealed already already done. The Holy Spirit is always there. Whether you fill it or not. (gentle music) (gentle music) (gentle music)
