Forgiving Ourselves
Read pages 165-169 of Stephen Canup’s book, "Knowing Jesus Intimately: A Relationship of Love-motivated, Spirit-empowered Obedience," which is available for free reading in Pando Books and Edovo.
TAKEAWAY HIGHLIGHT
Growing in relationship with God first requires we receive His love and
forgiveness. Once we believe that He really does forgive us, then we must
choose to forgive ourselves. We must be free of our past so that we will be
unburdened of guilt, shame, regret, remorse and embarrassment. Then it
becomes easier to follow the Holy Spirit daily and trust God with our future.
PRACTICAL APPLICATION
Ask the Holy Spirit to help you make a private list of the things in your
past you are ashamed of, still feel guilty for, you’re embarrassed about,
or sins for which you don’t feel forgiven.
Meditate on the complete love and forgiveness you already have from
the Father because of the finished work of Jesus. Talk to God one last
time about these things, then destroy the list. From now on, do not let
the devil continue to accuse you over your past. It is forgiven. Move on.
