Baptism of the Holy Spirit
Read pages 139-144 of Stephen Canup’s book, "Knowing Jesus Intimately: A Relationship of Love-motivated, Spirit-empowered Obedience," which is available for free reading in Pando Books and Edovo.
TAKEAWAY HIGHLIGHT
When we accept the finished work of Jesus at the Cross, and confess His res
urrection as the Son of God, the Holy Spirit comes to live in us. We “possess”
the Spirit. He begins His ongoing work of sanctification to steadily make
our “new man” conform to the image of Christ. However, true empowerment
– God’s own power – comes to us, and for us, as we totally submit to
the Holy Spirit and allow Him to “possess” us–one giant step more than
us merely “possessing” Him inside us.
This distinction is very real and life-impacting for our Christian walk. It
also increases our hunger and thirst for more of God which has a direct,
positive benefit to our increasingly intimate relationship with Jesus.
PRACTICAL APPLICATION
Scripture is our most powerful witness to and explanation of truth.
Carefully study the scriptures above, and those concerning the Holy
Spirit listed in the back of this book, to gain a more thorough under
standing of the Holy Spirit Baptism of fire and power. Have you asked
Jesus to baptize you in the Holy Spirit? If not, what are you waiting for?
