Dealing with Temptation
Read pages 99-103 of Stephen Canup’s book, "Knowing Jesus Intimately: A Relationship of Love-motivated, Spirit-empowered Obedience," which is available for free reading in Pando Books and Edovo.
TAKEAWAY HIGHLIGHT
“The only way we can withstand the world’s clamor, the devil’s whispers,
and our own selfish desires is by immersing ourselves in the Word of God.
We must focus our attention on knowing the heavenly Father in all of His
fullness, believing His promises, and obeying His commands. Only through
our relationship with Jesus Christ will we be able to fight the battle against
sin and stand firm. Clear your mind of any distractions, and allow the Lord
to speak to you through His Word. He has much to tell you.” Dr. Charles
Stanley
PRACTICAL APPLICATION
Think about two or three areas where you are frequently tempted. Look
for one or two scriptures specific to the temptation to utilize against
the enemy the next time you are tempted. Meditate on the scriptures
ahead of time so that you really believe them in your heart. When the
temptation comes, submit to God first by proclaiming the scripture
aloud and thanking God that your old man is dead so you do not have
to give in anymore. This is an effective way to resist the devil and he
will, in fact, flee!
