Forgiving Others
Read pages 171-176 of Stephen Canup’s book, "Knowing Jesus Intimately: A Relationship of Love-motivated, Spirit-empowered Obedience," which is available for free reading in Pando Books and Edovo.
TAKEAWAY HIGHLIGHT
One of the primary reasons Jesus came was so we could have forgiveness
through His blood. One of the last things Jesus did was to pray to God,
asking His Father to forgive those who had spit upon Him, ridiculed Him,
beat Him, mocked Him, and nailed Him to that cross. We must also be
willing to love and pray for those who have harmed us. We must be willing
to forgive them.
Our continued growth into increasing intimacy of relationship with Jesus
is severely hindered if we have un-forgiveness in our heart towards anyone
for anything.
PRACTICAL APPLICATION
The decision to forgive those who have hurt us–even though we do not
presently “feel like it” – is so very, very important! Ask the Holy Spirit
to show you every event and person who has hurt you. Make a list.
Then pray a separate prayer of forgiveness over each one on the list.
After you have prayed through them all one at a time, destroy this list.
Over the next few days and weeks the Spirit will bring other events
and people to your remembrance. Deal with them quickly and fully in
the same manner. You will have a new sense of freedom and lightness
of being. Express it gratefully and joyously to Jesus!
