The Voice Of God

Okay, let me ask you something real. How can you follow someone if you can't hear their voice? A lot of people get saved, but never learn how to hear the voice of God. So they end up being led by their emotions, old patterns, or outside voices. But Jesus didn't just die to forgive you, he died to bring you into relationship and every relationship starts with communication. John 10, verse 27 says, my sheep hear my voice and I know them and they follow me. So here's the truth. You were created to hear the voice of your heavenly father. And when you got saved, your spirit came alive, which means now you have the capacity to receive from God. But here's the catch. If your mind is filled with noise, trauma, demonic voices, or fear, it becomes hard to discern what really God is saying and what's just noise. So the first thing you need to understand is this. God speaks in many ways. He speaks through scripture and that's the foundation, praise God, but he also speaks through the spoken word of the Holy Spirit, which is the rhema word, through dreams, visions, through people, through conviction, through discernment and through a still small voice in your heart and even through creation itself. But the enemy also speaks

and his voice usually sounds like this, accusation, condemnation, confusion, pressure, fear, and shame. But God's voice is different. His voice brings peace, conviction without shame, clarity, direction, and truth that sets you free. Romans 8, 14, for as many are led by the spirit, these are sons of God. That means one of the marks of a mature Christian in the kingdom is being led by the spirit, not by emotions, friends, culture, or fear. My pastor, my spiritual father, he gave me this acronym years ago that has blessed me even to this day. It's the acronym HALT, like you halt, stop, right? H-A-L-T. And HALT, for each letter, there's a meaning behind what it means. So never do things in an H, hurry. Never do things in a hurry. So when you wanna make a decision or you're thinking about something, man, I gotta do this, never, if you're doing it in a hurry, it's not of God. If something's telling you, hurry up, hurry up, hurry up, do it, do it, do it, that's not the Holy Spirit. It's probably your flesh or a demon. So God will never rush you, but you can speed on this walk through obedience.

A, for HALT, is never do things when you're angry. So from a place of anger. So if you just were offended, if you're bitter, if someone just did you wrong, if you're playing basketball or football or with church brothers and sisters in Christ and something's going on and you get angry, don't make a decision from a place of anger. So don't do things in a hurry or anger. And the last two is LT. So L, never do things from a place of loneliness. Thinking that you're hearing the voice of God, but you have an overwhelming feeling of loneliness and you think God's telling you, oh, reach out to that person so you can minister to them. When you know you've lusted over them. When you know that's your ex. When you know that you shouldn't be speaking to them. Loneliness can birth a lot of demonic things. And the last one is tired. Never make important decisions or listen to a voice when you're feeling tired. If you're feeling exhausted, don't start going off of the voice you hear in your spirit. Stop, get in the presence of God. Take a nap, halt. So how do you start hearing him clearly? Number one, get in the word, the scriptures. In the Greek it's called the graphe. The Bible is the written voice of God.

The more graphe or scripture in you, not only hear, but hear, the easier it is to discern his whispers. Because when you know the word and you hear something that goes against the word, you know it's not truth. Just like Jesus said, it is written. He overcame the voice of the devil through the written word of God, because he knew the truth and that those were lies. But if Jesus didn't know what was written, how could he understand what's lies and what's truth? So as we read the word, we learn more. This is not of God or this is, and God will begin to teach you. So you might be in a situation where you think you're hearing God's voice and God says, what does my scripture say? And you look it up and realize, wow, this goes against his word. This is not of him and you learn something new and break a stronghold. He will never contradict his written word. That's why it's important to be under a pastor, a leader who can, who knows the word of God more than you do, who can give you advice scripturally, biblically. Number two on how to learn, how to hear him clearly spend time in the secret place. Just like any relationship, the more time you spend with someone, the more you recognize their voice. God is not ignoring you. He's inviting you to lean in. He wants you to press in number three.

This is a big one. Be still learn to be still. Sometimes you won't hear God until you silence everything else. Get alone, turn off the noise and listen. If you're super busy all the time and in performance mode, like, like Martha, Martha, when Jesus said Martha, Martha, you, you, you, you have, you have so much worry about so many things, but she has the better thing. Her sister, Mary Bethany was at his feet still and listening every day. We should go to the meeting place. We should have somewhere where we meet God. We're always in the secret place because the secret place is inside of you. So you can be in the secret place, hearing the voice of God anywhere you go. But the meeting place, when you shut the door is important as well, because you drown out all the voices around you and you stay still in his presence and you'll hear him loud. That's where God can show you visions, take you in the trances, show a, speak to you, show you things is when you're still and alone with him. Number four is ask and expect. Jesus said in Matthew seven, seven, ask, and it will be given to you seeking. You will find knock and it will be open to you. God is not playing hide and seek. He wants to speak. He wants you to know him. So if you feel distant again, go in the meeting place, get in the presence of God, worship, and praise him. Stand on truth that God wants to speak to you and expect him to speak to you. Now, let me be real. You're not going to always hear perfectly. Sometimes we miss it. That's part of our growth.

But God is a good father. He knows how to get his word across. Even when your heart is pure and surrendered, he'll guide you. Even when you make mistakes. So you, you might have that surrendered, pure heart. You think you hear something and it wasn't God. That's okay. He'll guide you still clean it up. Romans eight 28, all things work for the good of those who love God. Those who are called the called according to his purpose. That's you. I declare that over your life. This is the beginning of a lifelong journey of hearing his voice, not just for direction, but for intimacy, because sometimes he speaks not to tell you where to go, but just to say, I love you. I'm proud of you. I'm still with you. I'll never leave you or forsake you. So wherever you are today, maybe you struggle to hear his voice. Maybe you've heard lies for so long. Maybe you don't trust any voice. Maybe you're afraid of being wrong, but I'm here to tell you right now, your father is speaking. Slow down, open up your word, ask the Holy spirit to tune your ears because you were born again to walk with God. And every walk begins with a voice. Let's go deeper. I'll see you in the next lesson.
