The Gifts of the Spirit

You know, when you got filled with the Holy Spirit, you didn't just receive comfort, but you actually received power. The gifts of the Spirit are not just for pastors, prophets, or preachers. They're for the body of Christ. And if you're a born again believer, that includes you. 1 Corinthians 12, verse seven says, "'But the manifestation of the Spirit "'is given to each one for the profit of all.'" That means God didn't just save you to sit down. He filled you with His Spirit and power to function. There are different kinds of gifts of the Spirit, but they all come from the same Holy Spirit. Some are vocal, some are prophetic, some are power gifts, some are quiet, but just as needed. So let's break down the nine gifts of the Spirit mentioned in 1 Corinthians 12. Number one, the word of wisdom, which is very simply is divine strategy that's downloaded from heaven. Not worldly wisdom, heavenly wisdom that just drops, and you're like, wow, I never thought about that. And it gives you direction. Number two, the word of knowledge. This is supernatural insight into facts you didn't learn naturally. So it's when you look at somebody and the Holy Spirit puts something on your heart or speaks to you something about their life

that you couldn't have known if it wasn't from a divine source. And that source for you, because you're filled with the Spirit, is the Holy Spirit. This is what psychics and mediums try to do. They use the gift of hearing in the Spirit with a demonic spirit, a false demonic perverted word of knowledge to give people information about their lives so that they can control them and manipulate them from money or power. That's witchcraft, control. In Christ, we do it to bring people to Jesus so they can be filled and freed by the power of the Holy Spirit. Witches and warlocks control, sons and daughters, free. We bring liberty, the devil brings bondage. Three is faith. A supernatural surge to believe, to move mountains. This is a gift. Some people have that gift of faith and they had it in the world where they were doing super illegal things or super wild things and you had faith, but it was for the wrong side. Now in Christ, God's gonna give you faith to get through these trials, tribulations, situations. Number four, the gifts of healing. That's the ability to release physical or emotional healing.

Some people have that gift where they can pray for someone and they get healed. Or they just minister to someone by the love of God, that person gets healed from rejection or freed or delivered. It's a real gift of healing. Number five, speaking about deliverance, is the working of miracles. It's the power to interrupt natural law. Deliverance ministry is the working of miracles. It doesn't make sense when someone starts getting delivered from a demonic spirit, it's supernatural. Or let's say, for example, you're praying for someone and they miraculously, their leg grows out. That's a miracle. You can pray for someone and they'll gradually get healing, but a miracle healing is quick. You pray for someone, the lump falls off. You pray for someone, they get out of a wheelchair. That's the working of miracles. And when people work miracles, you'll see him pray one, two, even three times, like Jesus did when he prayed for the blind man and he saw people as trees. Sometimes you work the miracle by continuing to pray, almost like a spiritual doctor. And Jesus is the great physician, you're just following his voice to bring healing to someone's life. I've seen it, I've done it, I've been used by God for it,

it's powerful. Number six, prophecy. That's speaking the heart and mind of God to edify the body. It's giving, foretelling the future about what God is saying and if it's God, it's gonna come to pass and you're encouraging somebody. The word of God, speaking the word of God over somebody's life. The whole Bible is a book of prophecy. It's inspired by the Holy Spirit written down. So you can declare the word of God over someone's life and prophesy. Prophecy is what builds up the church. The apostle Paul said, I'd rather speak in five words and prophesy than speak in a million tongues. It's because he has spoken tongues more than everyone but in a church setting, he wanted to build, encourage, correct, convict, exhort, right? Number seven, discerning of spirits. That's the ability to see into the spirit realm and know what's from God, man, or the enemy. When someone has the gift of discernment, they can look at someone and know exactly what demonic spirit they're dealing with. You can see it straight through the eyes, you can feel the atmosphere, you can tell like this, quick. It's not hard to even tell because you have that gift. In the world, there's people who have this gift

and they're using it for the devil but they're discerning spirits from a demonic spirit. It's a perverted form of what the Holy Spirit gives you. And they'll be able, like witches and warlocks, to see and be like, oh, you're dealing with this, but they're getting it from a demonic spirit. And Christ is by the power of the Holy Spirit that brings deliverance, healing, help, love, joy, peace. It brings freedom to people's lives. Different kinds of tongues. This is spirit-given languages, both earthly and heavenly. There are people who have that gift to where they start praying and they start praying. And they start speaking a whole nother literal language and they don't, they never even learn this language. And they might be, let's say, for example, in China, trying to preach the gospel and the people don't understand English and they start speaking in Chinese and they're freaking out because they don't even know what they're saying, but they're speaking exactly what's needed. And I've heard stories about this many times. Also, there's a heavenly language, a glossolalia it's called, where you speak in an unknown shit, kalabarro, shogi, you speak in a heavenly language and this language is to edify yourself, it's to build yourself up in your most holy faith

and speak directly to God. Different kinds of tongues or variety of tongues. Number nine is the interpretation of tongues. It's the ability to understand and communicate what was spoken in tongues. So if you're speaking in your heavenly language, let's say, for example, shaba, lekashe, and someone's speaking, praying in tongues, there's people who have that gift of interpretation to interpret it, to literally interpret the tongues. Or if it's a literal language like Chinese, there might be someone who's able to interpret the Chinese into English to give translation. It just depends. It's different. That's why it's different kinds of tongues. Eighth gift, but the interpretation is the ability to communicate what's being spoken. These are not talents. These are supernatural tools. Let's talk about tongues. This is something I really wanna talk about because it's one of the most understood and neglected gifts in the church. Religion hates tongues. Acts 2, 4 says, and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues as the Spirit gave them utterance. Speaking in tongues is a personal prayer language

that builds you up in the Spirit. Like I said earlier, 1 Corinthians 4, he who speaks in a tongue edifies himself. It's not weird. It's not fake. It's powerful. When you pray in tongues, you bypass your logic and speak directly to God. There's literally a scientific study online. You can go YouTube it. Speaking in tongues medical experiment where they literally, they put a brain scanner on people as they spoke in tongues and saw that the certain parts of their brain that's supposed to be used when you speak in a language, right, it's not even being used because they're not using logic. They're speaking directly to God, right, from their subconscious. They're praying in the Spirit. It's a scientific thing. Go look it up. It's crazy. You pray mysteries. You wage war. You grow stronger internally. It's building up your spirit. It's so important to pray in tongues. And no, not everyone who speaks in tongues does so publicly, but every believer has access to this gift

for private edification. You'll see at our church service for the rock or revival, I'll be like, hey guys, in decency and order, we're gonna come together. We're gonna all pray in tongues and pray for people who have never received that gift. We're doing it in order. The apostle Paul said, make sure there's an interpreter in the church. He was giving direction to a church that was out of order because in that same chapter, he says, let there be judges if people are prophesying as well, which we never see in the church. And it's not that the apostle Paul was wrong or the church was wrong. It was for a specific church that was out of order. Because if you go to a church, I've seen churches where prophecy is released and you don't see an interpreter and it's still prophecy and it's still accurate. I've seen it. It doesn't mean that they're out of order because there's no judge for the prophecy. It just means that the apostle Paul to the church of Corinth was given specific instructions because they were out of order. And that's why he said, prophesy. Don't speak in tongues and build yourself up, but prophesy because I can only imagine they were wilding out, speaking in tongues during services

or someone was trying to preach or give a word or teach. And they're just wilding out. Women were worshiping a princess Diana. You can go look this stuff up. It's real. That's why the hermeneutics of scripture is so important. Studying the exegesis of scripture, understanding what you're reading in context and the right context, because the devil can deceive you through the word as well. Remember he told Jesus, the word says this and Jesus knew that was deception. He went against him what was written. So again, tongues is so important. It's not like you, yes, you pray in private, but you can be in a church service and the Holy Spirit come upon you and you get baptized in the Holy Spirit. And you begin to shut out of that cool, shut up. You're not out of order. It just means you got baptized in the Holy Spirit, right? And that's why we do it all together. We all pray together and people receive their prayer language and I've seen powerful encounters where people are baptized in his power and it's powerful. I've also seen people who don't receive the baptism of the Holy Spirit right away and it takes time and maybe they receive it in a few months or a year. It's just tarrying. It's wanting it, desiring it, believing it,

understanding it. And here's the key. The gifts are not about showing off. They're about building up. They're not proof of maturity. They're tools for ministry. So just because you have your prayer language doesn't mean you're more mature than someone. You know what the true definition of a Christian who's mature is the fruit of the spirit, which we're gonna talk about next. The love, the joy, the peace, the kindness, the goodness, obedience. You know, it's not a fruit of the spirit, but it's so important as well. The maturity comes from your relationship with Jesus, but the gifts are for ministry, tools for ministry. They don't make you better than others. They help you serve others better. But the gifts operate, the gifts don't operate. in confusion, they flow when you're surrendered, pure and available, and you believe in them. And the more you use them, the more you grow in them. So how do you activate these gifts of the Spirit? The Apostle Paul said to desire them earnestly, to want the gifts. It says, so I would say the first thing is desiring them in prayer, praying and asking God daily. Be like the widow with the unjust judge.

If you haven't studied, go study that parable. It's powerful how she continued to ask the judge pretty much for vengeance on her husband. And the judge was like, you know what? Because you're so annoying, I'm gonna grant it. And then Jesus said, how much more does our Heavenly Father wanna quickly, speedily give us, answer our prayers, right? It's about faith, so ask God in prayer and continue to ask him and thank him that the gifts of the Spirit live inside of you. Study them, know what Scripture says. Some of you are blocking a gift because you don't know it. I remember first on in the faith, the Holy Spirit showed me that. He said, you want the, I was praying for the gifts, praying for the gifts, and then I'm like, man, and then one day the Holy Spirit's like, you don't even know the gifts you're praying for. Learn what they are first. Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God. I started learning the gifts, studying the gifts, and then I started moving in them because I had knowledge, the revelation, the understanding, and the power of the Holy Spirit. So study them, study all nine gifts of the Spirit. Stay filled with the Holy Spirit. This is another way you can activate the gifts. Walk in the Spirit daily, stay in God's presence, stay in worship, stay in praise, stay in the secret place. Meet Him daily.

I'm telling you that disciplined life is so important. Step out in faith. When you feel the nudge, obey. The first time I prayed for healing for someone, I'll never forget, I was nervous, and when I prayed for the person and they got healed, I freaked out, and joy and happiness, and I got my faith increased, and then it grew to where I've seen people get out of wheelchairs, put crutches down. I've seen crazy miracles, but it came from me stepping out and obeying. Just like deliverance ministry, the first time it happened, I was nervous, but I prayed and it worked, and the demons came out, so it got comfortable. So obey and be, again, obedient. Be discipled, stay accountable and submitted. Have a pastor or a leader over you that already moves in these gifts, that can teach you these gifts. Stay accountable and submitted, right? You're not just called to survive, you're called to minister. We're not just here to make it to heaven, we already made it to heaven, now heaven has to come here on earth, right? Let your kingdom come, let your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. We have to advance the kingdom of heaven.

The kingdom of heaven suffers violence, but the violent take it back by force. We take it back by force, power of the Holy Spirit, the gifts of the Spirit, right? The gifts help you do that with power, accuracy, and grace. So ask the Holy Spirit, which gifts have you placed inside of me? And when he shows you, use them to serve others. Glorify Jesus and shake the kingdom of darkness. Let's go deeper, I'll see you in the next lesson.
