Solo Pregunta. And when I tell you Solo Pregunta, at first glance it could seem so simple that it could be even disappointing. How can a question change your relationship with God, your relationship with yourself, your relationship at home, the relationships at home, the family dynamics, even the relationships at work. Last week we saw that the quality of your life, we said this last week and I repeat it again, the quality of your life is deeply connected with the quality of the questions you ask. And we said the questions you ask God, that you ask yourself and the questions you ask others. And I want to tell you this, we received a letter, our pastoral team received a letter thanking us for this series and I wanted to share it with you because sometimes we launch this series and we wonder if it is having an effect, if it is having an impact, if it is being useful both theologically and practically. And Tim, Judah's father, sent us this note. He says, Pastors, I wanted to send you a quick note to tell you how this new series is already impacting my family. I am a widow and I got married again. My wife died five years ago when my children were 10 and 8 years old. And although we walked together through an intentional counseling process, I knew that when they grew up, they would probably think about their mother's death in new and deeper ways. While I was sitting in the service yesterday, this was written last Monday, I felt that the Holy Spirit encouraged me to start conversations, new conversations with my two children. To ask them if they had any questions about the life or death of their mother, that they would have been afraid, ashamed or insecure about having done. So I talked to each of them separately. When I was talking to my youngest son, who is now 13 years old and is in the midst of his own struggles as a teenager, he only had one question.
What did he like most about me and my mother? What did he like most about me and my mother? I don't know if I can convey the depth of what that question meant. He wanted to know what his value was. He wanted to know what his value was for his mother. Like many of us, he wanted to know that he was worth it. He wanted to know that he was deeply loved. He cried. I cried. And then I told him how his mother loved his laughter. Every time he laughed, she laughed too. And honestly, I don't know if I can describe the expression on her face at that moment. It was a moment with God. I am so grateful to have listened to the Holy Spirit, to have taken the risk and to have started the conversation. Thank you for responding to God's direction and guiding our church through this series. It is already impacting my family. I am deeply grateful that God has brought our family to North Place. Here to serve you. The questions you ask God, you ask yourself, and you ask others, transform your relationships. We saw something beautiful in Scripture last week, and that is that God does not appear giving orders or giving laws. He appears as a God who asks questions. He appears in Genesis 3 after the fall. He does not come to the garden demanding or despising. He simply asks a relational question. He says to Adam and Eve, where are you? Not because he was lost. Not because he needed to locate them geographically. But an invitation to leave the hiding place, to leave where they were, to return and to relate to him.
So if you were not there last week, here is the summary. A transformed life does not always start with a great answer. Sometimes it starts with a holy question. Today we are going to take a step further and I want us to talk about how the correct questions can transform your relationships, your influence, and your calling.
Bien, ¿a dónde vas? Aquí voy. Descargarnos y descargarnos datos.
¿Tú me sigues? No me llamó a pastorear tu matrimonio. Él no me llamó a pastorear tus hijos.
¿Qué carga estás llevando que no me he dado cuenta?
No solo tienen conocimiento, no solo dan dirección y visión,
That changes culture in the organization. That changes environments. It changes families. It changes a church. I confess, this season, the Lord was confronting me with that idea. Because in leadership, sometimes one enters a conversation
feeling the pressure that you have to solve quickly to move to the other. Has anyone felt that? Because you have a lot to do. Feeling the pressure to move the agenda, to clarify the direction, and not to be wrong. And it's not wrong. It's not wrong to want clarity. That's important. But the Lord is teaching me something. Not every conversation is healed with a quick answer. Not every conversation is healed with a clear, specific and precise fact. Sometimes what changes the environment is not speaking better, but asking better to our students, to our employees, to our team, to our colleagues. Sometimes the right question is asked more by a relationship than 10 minutes of explanation. Sometimes what changes the environment is a question like, what don't I see?
What don't I see? What am I not seeing in this situation? Help me. What are you still worried about that we haven't identified, that we haven't named? A question. What's behind your reaction? What's the deep reason in your heart? You're going down the bucket to the deep. You didn't stay on the surface thinking, I know them. I know how they are. I know you're all good Christians. No one says that. Conversation, when you open the door that way, it stops being a struggle for positions, it stops being a struggle for power. It becomes a space to understand hearts. And that doesn't just apply to leadership. It applies to marriage. It applies to the relationship with our children, with our grandchildren, to friendships,
any relationship that you go from administrator to ministry. And God calls us to be ministers of reconciliation. Now, with all this that I'm teaching you about questions, you have to be careful because some are already building up to the teeth. I have questions. Yes or no? Not every question is born out of love. The pastor said to ask you to sit here because now it's my turn. Because there's a big difference between asking questions and making someone feel questioned. There's a big difference and that difference matters a lot. When a person feels questioned, they become defensive. You're already on the surface of the well. When a person feels questioned,
they feel examined, attacked, and questioned. And there are people who are great at manipulating questions to stay on the surface of the well and make the couple say nothing more. That's where we stay. That's another preaching that's great. But today we're not talking about questions born out of cynicism. I'm not talking about questions born out of the pain of reprisal or the desire to take advantage. We're not talking about questions to control and much less questions disguised as criticism. We're talking about something more holy. I'm talking about holy curiosity. Questions that communicate I see you. I care about you. I really want to know more. I want to know your story. I don't want to assume. I want to understand. And for some, this is going to be hard
because they've been assuming all their lives. Others are waiting for you to arrive with the bat. And you hit them. It's sad, right? When you say, I'm here to understand, wait for the balls of your eye to come out of the well where you're located. Understand? Something, here's a catch. Something is going to use this against me. Whatever you say will be used against me. When we've created that kind of dynamic, it really takes us a little longer. But with the power of the Holy Spirit, our humility, El valor que se requiere para verdaderamente abrir tu corazón y luego tirar el balde al pozo, descenderlo. J.R.
Me enojo, me apresuro y después escucho si tengo tiempo.
I don't know if you've heard this, but there are a lot of people that you listen to, and they say, how are you? What do you need? How can I help you? How's your family? What's going on in your life? They're the kind of people that you say, man, they're so good, how do they ask those questions without rehearsing? Because they're always listening, they're holding on, they're taking care of you, they're taking care of you. But the problem with this is that they live in this desert of questions, because almost no one stops to ask them, what's going on inside of you?
What does your soul need right now? And I know that some of you are in that space. But this is the problem, when that lasts too long, a person can continue to function on the outside, but on the inside you start emptying yourself. On the inside, the well no longer has water, because no one is putting water in it. So I want you to listen to this with pastoral love. One of the most spiritual gifts that you can give someone is a sincere question. Your boss is human, your partner is human, that person that you see that always goes and goes and goes, your husband, your wife, your daughter, your mother, a friend, your leader, that person that always seems strong, sometimes they don't need other advice, they don't need other opinion, they don't need expertise, they don't need correction. Sometimes they need someone to ask them, are you okay? Are you okay? How is your soul? How is your soul? I want to leave you with that, because I think the important thing in this conversation is to move from the idea to the practice. That laughing, enjoying, feeling uncomfortable for 30 seconds is not worth it, I'm not going to put any of this into practice. I think that where the difference is, where it is going to make a difference in Tim's life, is where he dares to put this into practice. I've been in a cycle, I've been in a desert of questions, I've been in a space where I've let myself go, and not to feel guilty, but because God is a God that restores, renews, vivifies, and is the God of all hope. Do you hear that well? He is the God of resurrection. Resurrection is not a date in the calendar that is celebrated once a year. Resurrection and living in the power of resurrection is to take those areas where there is darkness, where there is death, where there is drought, where there is disappointment, where there is isolation, where there is loneliness, and say, Lord, through the power of resurrection. And the Holy Spirit that lives in you, that lives today in me, because I received you, is going to form my character. Up to here, behind a line in the sand, my generation from now on is not going to be indifferent, it is not going to be cold, it is going to know how to ask questions. Because the power of the Holy Spirit and the power that that brings to your life, to your marriage, to your family, to your workplace. If we are Sunday Christians, nothing more than an hour and a half in the church, we are wasting time. It is not worth coming here. The power of God has to be seen in those difficult spaces in our marriage. It is with me up to here. It has to be seen, to penetrate those difficult spaces in my relationship with my children. In those difficult spaces in my work. The Lord of God covers all areas of our life. The Lord of God is not like a pie that I eat a slice on Sunday and the rest of my life I do whatever I want. He wants to bring transformation. He wants to bring hope where there is only despair. So I'm going to give you three challenges. The first one is for your little house. Because all of this starts at home. Before the end of the week, choose a person in your house and ask a deep question. Decide who you are going to choose and what question you are going to ask. And after you ask the question, be silent. After you ask the question, don't start talking with nervousness, or worry, or you're not used to it. Ask the question and hold that space of silence.
Just listen to what the person without expectations, just listen. Don't explain too soon, just listen. Second, at work or in your ministry. Before your next important meeting, Write a question that shows genuine curiosity. Not a question to show that you know. Not a question that you know the answer to. Not a question to control the result. A question like, what am I not seeing? What do I not see in this situation? What do you think would be important to consider as we talk about this? And the third challenge would be in a stagnant relationship. I'm taking it from the easiest to the most difficult, right? Think of a relationship that feels cold, superficial, stagnant, or distant. And start with a simple question. What is the question that we have never asked ourselves in this relationship? And just wait. And listen. And see where God is going to direct that conversation. That's what we never asked ourselves in that relationship. Just remember, every strong relationship that you have today, every lasting friendship, every conversation that brought health to your life, every moment that you finally felt seen, that deepened your marriage, that strengthened the team, possibly started with something small. Someone stopped and asked something real.
Learned to ask a better question. It wasn't an accident. There has to be intention in this. This is not going to happen. You're not going to get up one morning wanting to do it. This is discipline. Holy Spirit, help me. Holy water, whatever you want to throw yourself into. Go and throw yourself. Throw yourself and say, here I go, Lord. Help me because if you're not with me, I'm going to drown in the well. Here I drown in the well because this is not my personality. But you know that what you call your personality are distortions and it's spiritual and emotional dysfunction in your life. What you call many times personality, God calls it character. And He wants to tell you, I want to conform you to your character. It's not that it's my personality. No, that was your old creature. You're a new creature with new purposes, with new direction, with new identity, with new clothing, and with new ways of speaking. That's how it goes. But it goes there. With practice. Sometimes the miracle doesn't start when someone speaks. Sometimes the miracle starts when someone asks. So, the next thing I want to share with you is a resource. It's a resource of questions.
Say, questions. Our pastoral team has been working all week looking at resources, looking at possibilities, and we've collected a lot of questions that go in two directions. If we have the QR code ready, I'd like us to put it. It goes in two directions. One, questions I have to ask myself. Because in order for me to grow, I have to start asking myself questions. It's not that I go on Netflix and every time I have pain, I put it to sleep with alcohol, with shopping, with Netflix, with a series, with coming to church, or even with being in the ministry. No. I have to start asking myself questions that are going to help me grow. And there's a route, a path, that's for you to ask yourself questions, you alone, you and God, you ask yourself questions and listen to what He has to say. And then, in fact, that question is there for when you're a teenager. What questions should you be asking yourself? Or questions that we have when we're 20 to 30, 30 to 40,
50 to 60. You start asking yourself, who are all these young people who want my job? Have you reached them? And you feel threatened by any young person These are questions that we start asking ourselves. Then, when you're over 60, what kind of questions, what kind of legacy do you start asking yourself? But if no one taught us how to ask good questions, I'm going to give you a database. And then questions that you can ask your husband, your wife, your children. Don't go with all of them at once. They're going to think you've gone crazy, or crazy, right? Take one, tell the Lord, give me one or two questions, and ask them. And see where God is taking us this week, transforming us according to His character. Amen? How many of you are ready to do something, at least? How many dare? How many dare? Very good, very good. The rest, stand up, may God bless you, take care of you. You're on your own. I'm going to bless those who just raised their hands. No, it's a joke, it's a joke. Lord, bless those who raised their hands from their little hearts. You have to get out of there, you have to get out of there.
God is calling you. First He told you, I have love, I love you, I will give you peace. And then He gave us the practical opportunity to put His Word into action. Amen. While Pastor Oscar passes, I will pray for you and thank God. Lord, guide us and sustain us. Guide our steps. Bless this time throughout this week. And help us, help us and teach us to ask questions that heal. Not questions that control. Make of our homes a place of Your presence. Make of our marriages a place of holy curiosity. Make of our friendships a place of depth and truth. Make of our work and leadership a place where others feel seen and valued. Prepare our hearts for this next week. To take you to our deepest questions. In the name of Jesus. Amen. Amen. Thank you for being with us today and for staying throughout the program. I hope that today's service has been a blessing for you. Both the praise and the worship. I hope that you have brought hope, transformation and above all purpose in your life. We would love to hear from you. Here on the screen there is information about how to write to us, how to send us your prayer requests and how to let us know what God is doing in your life. May God keep you and I hope to see you again very soon. Amen.
