Welcome to another episode on the Unlearn Wisdom Podcast with yours truly, Johnny Chang. And each episode is a gospel-centered lesson that you could apply to your life today. Today. And today, it's episode 43. 43. And we're in the new year, baby. And we're in the new year. So, with that being said, this episode is gonna be on focus. Focus, focus, focus. So lock in. Yes, locking. What's the thing? Lock in. See guys, it's a lock. It's like a lock. It's not straight. Yeah, there you go. It's like this. What lock is it? Yeah, yeah, it's like this. Lock in. So we have to lock in, basically, and it's about focus. So, let's start. All right, I have a question. You got pepper sprayed? You got maced?
Yeah, many times. Many times? How many times, many times? When you go to jail or when you go to prison, the happiest place on earth, you get these experiences of chili peppers in your face. This sounds awesome. It's amazing. You can't see anything for like hours. Wait, what, like if you guys are fighting or something? Yeah, if there's a riot, they use bear mace. OC spray. It's in a canister. Wait, wait, wait. Walk us through the first time you ever got pepper sprayed. The first time I got pepper sprayed was on the streets. So, they were, dirty, dirty, you gang member, dirty, dirty, man. Boy banged on me, what's up, homie, where you from? Before I could even say anything, because I think he already knew who I was. I was 16. He was like, where you from? Shh. I was like, ah, ah. Bro, it was literally crazy. Two things happened. You either ball up or you like fight and swing, right? So, I was just swinging. Hey, he's swinging,
and they're just like watching from 10 feet away. Legit though, legit. Okay, okay, the truth is I had a little. What's up, a poker? A filero. No, a knife. And so, I was just going like this. And I could just hear them like, oh, snap. And luckily, nothing happened. You were going by sound? He suddenly turned into Daredevil? Yeah, yeah. It's crazy, because it's a 16-year-old kid getting mazed at this boy talking about Daredevil. Always got jokes. Always got jokes on my trauma. No, just kidding. But no, legit though, it was crazy. And I thought I had been blinded, because when it hits you the first time, you're like, oh, what the heck? Like, you don't realize it. And then, when you blink, then your whole face just gets hot. Like, it doesn't even have to hit you in the eyes. It has to hit you on the cheek or on the mouth, or even if you were to, don't do this at home, okay? And if you do, all right, we don't condone this, but if you even spray it around your hand or whatever, it's like chili, right?
It's super hot, super hot. You can feel the heat. If you spray it on your hand and just smell it, it'll still make your eyes close out? Yeah, there's times where if you just smell the, like, if it's a really, really strong one, and you smell just like the, I guess, the spray, that's when it gets you. So, I've seen people spray and then mace themselves, because they'll, like, spray and then walk into it. Like, oh, man. Yeah, so it is bad. But after a while, I'm not gonna lie, you do build, like, anything, you build a tolerance to it. Really? So, in prison, there was, like, riots and things like that, or, like, in county jail, there would be, like, certain riots, and people would turn on the showers, and then they would fight, and then they'd get sprayed and jump in the shower and, like, wash it off and fight again. No way. So, it was like this, yeah, it's kind of crazy. Wow. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I'm imagining, like, the officer's trying to spray Johnny in the eyes, he's like, too small. The guy's like, oh. I'm like, try again.
Yeah, he's like, expert mode, like. Yeah, they literally. Just missing, like, his lines, and Johnny's just staring right at them. I still see you. Why? I wonder why. Why is that? Why am I expert mode? Why do you, why do you think? Why do you, why do you think, I'm asking. Because your eye is, like, looking through the crack. No crack. Because your eye widescreen. Dang, you built tolerance, or? Yeah, you built tolerance to it. I'm telling you. No, I'm saying you. Did I? Yeah. Yeah, for sure, 100%. Yeah. That's crazy. After, like, three times, it gets to a point where adrenaline rushes as well, but, yes, it is, like, for, I've seen just Google pepper spray videos, too. People will literally, like, go nuts. Like, they'll scream, ah, ah, and, like, run into the wall.
I swear, I've seen it happen. So, it's just, yeah, it's crazy. The feeling of, like, not being able to breathe and see. And you start to lose your senses that quickly is what drives the insanity. Yeah, the panic attack. 100% panic attack. Yeah. The first time I had it, I had a panic attack. Because after the adrenaline, you know, got off, I was like, what did he, because you don't know what you got hit with. Like, you understand what pepper spray is, but you don't know it's that lethal. So you're thinking, this is literally, like, every time you try to open, it's like, you can't open it. So it's like, and it's like, you have to like, almost cry it out or like, have like milk. People are using milk. It's crazy, right? I was like, wow. And I was like, dirty, dirty gang members. And then I adapted it into my arsenal. Yeah. I was about to say, have you ever, have you ever sprayed an enemy? I have. Okay, I'll tell you a story. There's one time I was, it was at a boba shop. And there was like, I just seen some enemies and there was like, like, double digits, right? And they came in and that's what saved my life. You were by yourself? Yeah. YOLO. Throwing chairs.
And just like that, a ninja, he was gone, back flipped out of the scene. Yeah. No, but legit it was spraying and it was like, and then it was just like, everything was moving around. And they, and again, they were like getting maced and it was, it was wild. And in Chinatown back then, it was just a spot where you would get it. Everyone go and get their weapons at this spot. It was Chinatown, if you guys know, you know, RIP Whisper, that's the homie. But basically like that you would get brass, no, it was completely illegal, right? But you would get those things. And then, and I remember getting like pepper spray comes in like, I don't know, 3.7 ounces, whatever. The one that I got was like, like Extendo, Extendo mace, right? It's like a fire extinguisher, hold the tab, it's just like, he wears on his back, like a fire, like Ghostbusters. No, but that thing saved my life, bro. Getting jumped, I would have got packed out, packed out, packed out, I would have been dead. That gang was real too. So I was like, dang, but it saved my life. Yeah, that was crazy. The Boba shop owners like, ah! Honestly, I feel bad for that, man. A lot of these restaurants we've wrecked, but it was, it was bad. Sorry, guys. I can't imagine getting full mace. My tiny experience with mace was just like my friends and I trying to figure out if like the thing would actually work. And I remember one single speck like blew back into my throat and you could feel like the one speck that I was like scratching, like, you can cough as much as you want, you
can not get it out. Like I was like, just I remember dying from literally one speck. One drop, yeah. But I was like, I could feel the tiniest dot, but it made me cough for like an hour or so. No, for sure. What is the material? Is it just like jalapeno juice? It's a casein, it's like, it's like all peppers, it's just straight peppers, like the hottest peppers in the world. Habanero, ghost peppers. Legit. I think they use like straight up, like the hottest peppers in the world. I want to, I want to know who the first sickle was that came up with it. Right. Yo, if I soak a bunch of peppers in water and I throw it at someone, they can't see for like two hours, they choke. Have you ever like, uh, like messed around and see if you could like handle a waterboarding? Like has that someone, anyone let, put a towel? No, no, no, no. Like, that is terrifying. My friend did it to me for a second and it's the same panic. Really? Have you seen people on Tik Tok? We're trying to do it. Oh, they lay him in the bathtub. All they do is put a towel, a wet towel over your face. And then they have someone with just like a, you know, like a pitcher pouring a steady stream of water. And they, they're counting out loud. People can't last more than six seconds.
Dude, guys, read your Bibles, like you don't have to do that. Tik Tok trends like that. You do not. Would it? We're not preparing for Al Qaeda. It's like, what the heck, dude? That's crazy, bro. Get in your Bibles, man. That's wild as heck. You guys didn't waterboard each other growing up? I just, it's a, it's like the panic feeling. Yeah. Like sucks the breath out of you. You just can't breathe instantly. If we are righteous and perfected forever, that means that we no longer have sins. So that, so then any action that we do that is against God, is that technically just an action? It is an action. And it is, I mean, it's not that there's no more sin. Yes, technically there is, but it's more about agreeing with the thought that then can become a sin. So for example, if you get tempted, a lot of people think if I have a temptation in my mind, that's sin. Not necessarily because Satan tempted Jesus. So does that mean Jesus was a sinner when he was like tempting him with food and kingdoms of the world and things like that? No, it's when you come into agreement with it. That's when it becomes sin. So a thought will come, it's when you consent to it and accept it. Then it bleeds from thought into like feeling, emotion.
Then emotion usually manifests into behavior. So like you could say in that case that that's how action, I call it the Symptoms of sin, but basically like sin is obviously an identity and it's you're born that way But then sin is also kind of an act it sin is also an action in that if you trust your thought Then it'll bleed into whatever you're thinking. Let's say you have like a murderous thought then you have murderous Feelings and then murderous behavior. So yes. Yes it is It's not that we sin because we mess up It's that we agree with what the enemy is saying again And that's the sin the byproduct of that agreeing with him you could say is sin But actually the sin doesn't happen at the behavior. It happens at the thought process It happens at the agreement process Like Satan will come and coerce you and then if you agree with that and don't take that thought captive to God Yes, that is when it becomes a sin. So yes, although we're perfected That's why I say like, you know, if you accept it, you do have to repent but repentance is not all my bad I accepted it repentance is oh, that's why I shouldn't accept it See, I messed up again because then people always ask the same question The follow-up question is okay, if we're perfected and righteous and Jesus died for our sins Then how come we're still not perfect right now? How come we're still quote-unquote sinning? That's the battle It's like flesh will keep telling you. Hey, you're still alive. You're old you and then God's Word will say no, you're a new creature. So like that's what you have to battle with every single day That's why God says you have to renew your mind daily because Satan will literally accuse you Revelations chapter 12 verse 10 day and night. He's accuser of the brethren day and night He'll be like you're not like that. You're not like that. That's not it That's not it. Same thing with Adam and Eve when you look at Adam and Eve like they were sinless they had no sin and then Satan came and was like, are you sure he created doubt? Are you sure? That's what God said Are you sure God's not like withholding out on you? Are you sure cuz in the day that you eat of it? What I know is if you eat this fruit, you're gonna be God and right there. He created doubt through thoughts He didn't pluck the fruit and then chop it up and give it to them
So like when they agreed and was like, you know what when I look at that fruit I do want to be like that and when I look at it, it does look like it's food It doesn't look harmless right there. They agreed with what Satan said and that was the fall It wasn't the plucking of in eating, right? So then like You know, I fully believe that I'm righteous and perfected. Yes, there's still times that I have thoughts and I reject those thoughts yes, but let's say I I Fall in I fall into it. Now. I believe that I doesn't mean I have to my salvation is gone. Yes, right so what what is that I sinned or Yeah, so you can sin and like mess up and trust your thoughts because true sin is unbelief John 16 9 But that doesn't mean you lose your salvation. It's not a salvific issue as they say, so, okay I messed up like let's say use the analogy of like a kid and a son, right? We call father a kid and a dad we call God our father and that means we're his son So, let's say like even in a worldly sense, right if you disrespect your dad and you do like even horrible things to your dad Does that mean that you're no longer his son though? No, you're still his son. Do you understand you just messed up? Sure, but it doesn't mean like oh you lost all sonship like that's it for you But that's how Christians and modern Christianity treats it. Oh if you mess up That's it's over for you. Like you need a not willful sin. You need to really chill You need to be careful because they don't understand context, right? Gospel out is officially live. So then in that sense, though, because sorry, sorry, I see you rolling your eyes. No, I'm not. I'm not. I'm literally choking. I had that little one drop of pepper spray. Okay. So in that situation, in that analogy, what I also imagine is let's say that like you accept what you accept that you're righteous and perfect, what the Bible says, and then you go about your life and you just struggle all the way through, you still cheat, you still lust, you still do drugs, you still drink, but you're just fighting that battle for whatever reason. When you get up to heaven, is God kind of just like, there's my troublemaking, difficult son that just struggled all the way through and couldn't, you know what I'm saying? No, I think he understands. It says in the Bible, we don't have a, uh, a Messiah that can't reason or understand us. So he knows Jesus wore the flesh for a reason to understand our pain, our anxiety. He stressed, he, he felt depression. He felt loneliness, obviously. So he gets how tough it is to be us.
Right. And he knows that like, we don't have a choice because we're born that way. Um, the only choice that we have is to distrust our thoughts. That's why God says in Proverbs three, lean not on your own understanding, like with all of your ways, acknowledge God. So why then, right? The question that you're basically asking is if we're Christian, why then do we still struggle? Right. Why is it that we continuously like mess up? And if we do mess up, like, what's the whole point of being Christian then once we receive salvation, shouldn't we have like, at least get better and most people do. Right. But some people genuinely like Paul wrote 14 books of the Bible had a thorn on his side until he died. It means he struggled with something until death, but is God going to be like me? Well, I hope this thorn finally lets up when literally that's what everyone has that mindset. I hope this thorn doesn't. But then what he says is different in second Corinthians 12, he says, because of this, I'm closer to God, but it's so true though. It's so true. Like legit. When do you search for God? Jeremy, imagine if you were like super successful with a very grateful guy. If you were that way, yeah, he does the Trump. Yeah. Yeah. Thank God. Gratitude.
But basically, like if you were successful, you went on your ayahuasca trip, you were shroomed out, you were all this, let's say, and you didn't need like you had everything that you need. You definitely wouldn't be working for this company. You wouldn't help us like save many souls. You would literally just be doing your own thing. And then I'm sorry to say you go up to heaven and God's going to ask you, like, where are your fruits? And you're just going to be like, you're going to pull an ayahuasca plant like this is my fruit. And then, you know, it's like no good. Right. So at least according to Christianity. So it's, it's good that you went through what you went through, the thorns on your side, the struggles in your, you know, sin and your thoughts and whatever, and then to ultimately come back to what it is. Right. Cause you never thought that you would be working for a Christian company. And so at the end of the day, it's like, God's not going to heal you from something that he could like utilize to help others like later on. Right. So everyone struggles with something. And if a Christian says they don't struggle, that's BS. Because then the Bible would be false. The Bible says flesh and spirit are always at war in Romans chapter seven. Paul is saved at this time. He's literally preaching to Rome, but he's still saying, I do the things I don't want to do. And then he recognizes, Oh, I'm wretched in me. That is in my flesh.
There is nothing good. Like that's what he realized. Oh, I struggle because I think there's still good in my flesh, but now I realize there's nothing good inside of me. And that's why I thank God. No wonder Jesus had to save me, man. Something just clicked for me. Yeah. So he, would you like to share with the class, buddy? Yeah. I mean, it just clicked for me that it's like, it's like the, the things that we call struggle is just to exemplify grace. Yes. Like the, that's what you can, when you're, when you're quote unquote repenting, or when you feel guilt, which you, which is not from God, what you should instead be reminded of is there's somebody up there that regardless of whatever I do, how many times I slip up, how dirty I can be as a human, I still wake up every day with the breath in my lungs. Yes. Things still happen for me that are positive in my life. And I still get to go to heaven at the end of it all. That's love. That's love. And I learned even through second Timothy chapter two 15 speaks exactly what you're saying. It says study to show yourself approved. I always see, I use, I always used to think of it as a legalistic, like I have to know the Bible to, so that if one day Aaron asked me a question, I can be approved. Yes. But that's not what it means.
It actually means study to show yourself approved and rightly dividing the word of truth because Satan is a father. Lies and if every day he's lying to you. You can't go to yourself because you're gonna be it's all convoluted You have to go to the word that shows you hey study to see that I made you approved. Oh You understand you get it Vaguely, okay. So yeah, where's the approved thing come from from the scripture? What's this? What's so the approval is like you're perfected you're righteous. Whereas every day Satan's like if you're righteous, though Why did you sin? Why did you mess up? Oh, you messed up so much makes you think about your past makes you think about your present worry about the future God's like, um, hello, like even though you messed up This is where you need to go to not self but to the word that says you're approved So it's study to show yourself that you're approved because every day Satan is showing you that you're not approved that you messed up and you're flawed, right? So God is saying you're perfect. The Bible says we're perfect Satan goes No, you're not though and look at yourself and then right there it comes down to focus Where are you putting your focus on? Are you focusing on the word? Are you focusing on self and your thoughts and when that happens you lose sight of focus you lose sight of God? That's why God gave us the Bible as a tool and as armor to protect us from these types of things So when you read it it then shows you oh, I'm approved because there's times where brothers and sisters to like especially new Christians They'll be on fire and then they'll be like, oh, but what if I lose my salvation like they'll burn out and be like Oh, they question their salvation. So if you're questioning your salvation nine times out of ten, I'm gonna be honest It's probably because you're looking at yourself again Whereas when you did receive true biblical salvation You're studying the word and what the word Jesus Christ and God says about you So somehow it got like muddied and you're like now looking at yourself again And so that's why they go. Oh, I messed up again. I did this I did that And so everyone that comes to me, I always go. Okay, you messed up right? You don't feel like you're perfect No, I'm not perfect. You remember your sins. I remember my sins and then we go to Hebrews 10 14 Hebrews 10 17 I don't remember your sins and you're perfect. So which one is right and right there They have to study that to show themselves. Oh, I'm I'm still approved right of God. I'm qualified by God
But if you don't read the Bible, you're only in your feelings Like I say if you're not in your word, you you can only be in your feelings so So reading the Bible does not make you approved but only through reading it. Can you realize you already are? Yes, got it. You got it. Bingo being but most people think the opposite, right? Oh, I have to read to then show that I'm approved and qualified to speak the word to tell people the truth It's like not necessarily right and that's a legalistic thing So they study and they study and study, but they don't realize it's not for them. It's for you, right? It's for yourself Absolutely. Yeah study for yourself to be improved interesting. Yeah Wow, deep bars clippy somebody wrote this and as a comment and I thought it was good because it pertains to the episode Episode today about focus and discipline. She said her name was oh, sorry. It could be a guy Gin, I thought it said Gina, but it's gin Hi, I was wondering why why I'm not retaining information for example when I listen to your podcast or sermons I can't seem to remember it or apply it to my life without getting distracted That's good because they want information not transformation right like information is gonna lead you to Being knowledgeable, but like you have to be surrendered to so the reason why is because they're kind of accessorizing the word to then want to be You know transformed right? Well, hold up timeout Johnny Timeout Johnny, is it my tonality? Yes. I wanted to say something. Okay, somebody had in our life today came in I'm not telling you who somebody came in. They said I prayed for you to die Because of your tonality and they said is that wrong? And then I was telling them about it and then they were like, yeah, whatever bro. All you do is yap You don't know anything about the Bible. So I was like if you claim to be a Bible-believing Christian But you pray for someone else to die Low-key that's committing murder Right because the Bible says in your heart if you you know, if you lust you already committed Don't you in your heart? Obviously it was in his heart to take it to God to be like I want him to die
It also sounds familiar because they did this in acts Right the Sanhedrin went against Paul and was like we're gonna fast and pray for 40 We're gonna 40 people Fasted and prayed and told God we will not stop fasting and praying until Paul dies and in the end they ended up dying Right, so, you know It's it's and why I'm bringing this up is because it was the same thing a lot of the times, right? People can't retain or even hear the truth and they just it's because they just want information People follow us right and I'm not trying to like fluff our feathers, but we've studied the Bible we give unlocks But people, people idolize, yeah, the three wise men, people, three wise guys, people idolize information. They idolize wisdom so much so that they're missing Jesus for it. Right. And I spoke about this. So people think like, Oh, I can get the wisdom and not be surrendered. I can get the scripture and I don't need to surrender to Jesus. Right. People love collecting truth and collecting information. Right. But when it comes to repentance, obedience, and the truth confronts them to then change, they don't want that part. And so then they say, it's your tonality. But today I was extremely calm and I did it on purpose to be like, I guarantee you it's not tonality. It's the fact that they see, they see peace, clarity, things like that. And that, and they're not peaceful and they're not clear, let's say. And because of that, it disturbs them. Right. And it's like, your light will always disturb someone's darkness. Right. Your hard work will always disturb someone who's lazy.
Your, you know, again, your peace will always disturb someone's chaos. So it's really not a tonality thing. Now to get back to that point. Well, come on. I can't skip over that. That's pretty wild. So then. Like, what did, how did the conversation end? The guy just was like dipped and was like, I hope you die. Just like, I hope you, I'm praying for you to die. And you know, because I don't like your tonality, I should've been like, I'm praying back for you and I'm more spiritual than you, so I got to pray 10 times as hard. No, no. The way I saw it was like this, right? Obviously you could be like, that's hella disrespectful. There's one side. But the other side of it was like, it's Sunday morning and this was right before church. You woke up and you chose that to lead with. It's kind of, it's pitiful to me. It's like, dang, like lamentations three 23 says his Mer his mercy is new every morning that the wrath passes over you. Cause we're all deserving of death. Right. And I mean, honestly, he kept it real. He was like, yeah, I want you to basically, I pray for you to die. Cause I don't like you basically. Okay, cool. But at the same time, where is God in all of that?
If you claim to be a loving Christian, which is a fruit of the spirit, a loving Catholic or dog, whatever it is. Right. Why did you lead with that? Right. And it's like, and then to ask, is that wrong? It was almost like a rage baiting type of thing. Like, of course it's wrong. Right. But what I saw was like, man, I don't know. I just felt sad for them. I was like, dude, you're someone who you don't know. Parasocially online has triggered you so much because of certain scriptures that I'm quoting to then make you go and be like, I want you dead. That was kind of crazy to me. Right. And it's just like, I wonder how they live their lives, not even in no disrespect, but it's like, if, if someone online who doesn't really matter can affect you so much to then go in front of God, to pray about them, to die, it's like, then there must be a lot of things that be affecting you. I don't even pray for like, you know, I'll just say like murderers in prison to die. You know what I'm saying? Like, that's just a crazy thought. Now, when you position it like that, it's like, yeah, bro is definitely sad because that means he had to join the discord, which is another level. And then know that you were online to come in to say something like that. Yeah. So on a Sunday morning, you know, so I just saw it as like, I get it. There's times where I was like frustrated and I, you know, I think it obviously it's the enemy.
Right. So I tried not to, I try to be more understanding in that way, but people were also blown away because I saw it and I couldn't not see the comment. I was just like, what? And then he double and quadruple, like triple down on it. Basically like, yeah, bro, all you're doing is yapping. Like you didn't preach the Bible. Right. So you should die. And then I realized there's a lot of people that think like that. He was just bold enough to say it. Right. And so through that, I'm just like, it makes sense why the Bible says what it says, you know, and, and, and there was other people that were even like not agreeing with him, but was just like, if you're a heretic, that's what you deserve. You know what I mean? Like you deserve to be like this. Again, not knowing the full context of what I was saying, mind you this whole time, I was literally just answering people's questions. It was more talking about anxiety. There was like atheists in there trying to like bring them to God and like, they don't care. Like the way that the culture, modern Christianity is nowadays. It's like, I feel like you messed up and you're not saying something that's, that I feel like is right. And so therefore I can treat you however I want. Like I have a right. And not only that, it's almost like my due diligence and my duty from God to like get you, you know what I mean? And it's, it's kind of wild.
They're mighty bold when they're anonymous. Yeah, it's true. But it's, it's, it's again, it's not even. them. I genuinely believe that that's the enemy because 10 years ago when I was in the streets doing all of my crazy stuff nobody was saying nothing about me. Now that I'm telling people hey guys you're righteous and you're perfected not because you're good or I'm good or we're perfect but because the perfect one died for us gave us you know the transmission of sins and remission of sins and forgave us and from that alone people are like he don't believe in the Lord's prayer which is not true. He doesn't believe in repentance not true. He doesn't think that dreams and visions are from God not true. All these things are spinning and it's basically like bro thinks like he's better than everybody. Bro thinks he's better right. People will come into my live and be like submit to Rome and I'll literally go why do you lead with that? Why not submit to Jesus? Like why is that the first thing that comes out of your mouth? And then they move well Rome was submitted to Jesus and it's like right but why would you come in with that? That prideful attitude is this you know so you know again to not to go too far but to answer the question right to come back to this question people can't retain information because they're not focused on transformation. They're focused on information. They want to just know the knowledge but again guys knowledge reading scriptures without surrender is actually satanic. What? Right people are like that's crazy. If you read scripture and only to get unlocks and to be big brain and to have knowledge first Corinthians 8 says knowledge puffeth up right and love right has you have to have love basically with the knowledge which is charity and Jesus. So if you think about it why I say it's demonic why you idolize idolizing wisdom and knowledge is is a bad thing and it can be a bad thing in that Satan was like that. He knew all the scriptures. He knew everything about God. He was literally a guardian to the throne. He was literally beautiful wise all that but he had no surrender. He didn't know how to surrender to the information. He just took it and was like oh I'm like basically number two here and I'm better than everybody and then that fed his pride and his ego so much so that he was like man I deserve that throne and he didn't like throw lightning bolts and like thunderbolts and fight in heaven. He just had that one heart. I want to be the most high and God kicked him out just like that because he knew this guy's already corrupted. You know Pharisees have this mindset where it's like I know what I know and if you say
something against what I know because it scares me I'm going to kill you and that's literally what they did to Jesus right. Jesus came and flipped their foundation and was like y'all search the scriptures but you missed God inside of them and they're like what we love God and it was this constant. It wasn't like he was harsh to them. He was just like if you love God you would have loved me. I'm from God and they're like blasphemous you're a wine babbler you're this this and that you're you love you love prostitutes etc etc. Like it was because he was showing them finally his truth was disturbing their peace and it was making them realize maybe I don't know and so the things that I say without no disrespect if I just say it truthfully it exposes to a lot of people that maybe that what they're saying isn't right and so that's scary right. It's like dang now I don't know so I need to make him the bad guy. Your tonality I'm gonna it's a distraction it's not my tonality it's me telling the truth and then you that truth is disrupting something inside that you're not ready to let go of and if you don't let that go then you're gonna be like all right Johnny's the evil one. We have to everybody needs a villain right. Some people need you to be a villain respectfully why so that they could then hide behind their acts they can hide behind they can skirt accountability right and I tell people I'll be the villain all day that's fine but at the end of the day when we stand in front of God how are you going to unpack that if you don't unpack it now and accept it now how are you going to unpack that you know. So it's very dangerous but I will be the bad guy you know there's a Scarface when he's like you need people like me so that you can go look yeah there's the bad guy right it's like you need people like me so I genuinely understand that like I have to be the whatever they say that I am because if I'm not then they're gonna have to face the reality that they may not know what they're talking about and they may lose their congregations overnight respectfully and they may be like dang maybe I'm not shepherding correctly and instead of flipping their foundation because they have a platform fueled by ego they rather just be like I'm cool let me hide behind this and be like you don't know what you're talking about and I'm not gonna change or even just having a conversation with you yeah because to that person you're saying like okay well that's because you're looking for information not transformation maybe she's a complete beginner too right she doesn't know that it's Satan, you know, her intention is pure. Yes. I just taught you, you just told me
about how I should read the Bible to accept not to understand or whatever it is, or when you get angry, this is what you should think about or reject your thoughts. Sure. She's trying to retain that so that she can apply it some way in her life, right? Then what would you recommend somebody? What does it mean to be surrendered as a beginner when they're listening to something like this and you know? Surrendering is in that situation is you have to realize that God is allowing this to happen. Cause if she could keep the, and retain the information and it was good for her, don't you think God knows that? Why would he not allow that to happen then? So there must surrender is, oh, God's not allowing this to happen. What is God's heart? So she wants to learn information because of good intention, right? Sure. There's nothing wrong with that. But you also, have you thought about God's heart though? In everything that we do as Christians guys, especially for new believers, listen up. We have to think about God's heart. But what do we think about is, we start off just thinking about our hearts. How do I preach the gospel to someone? How do I level up?
Okay, I wanna be like Johnny Chang. So I need to start reading. So I need to start praying. Okay, how do I fast so that I can fast? It's all I. Surrender is, what is your heart in this God? And what do you think about? A lot of new baby Christians think that surrendering is, I have to do this. I have to give this up. I have to learn more. I have to grow spiritually. Of course, those are important things. But the one thing that people forget about surrender is not adding God into the equation. What are you surrendering to? And what are you surrendering for? God. You surrender your pride so that God's humility can take over. You surrender your control so that God can take control. This is what surrender is. It's not, oh, I'm going to study to have more control so that I don't have any more, I want more peace. God doesn't want that because then you'll idolize peace. Then you'll idolize control. So a lot of people, especially baby Christians, they go extra hard, read five chapters, 10 books a day type stuff, and then they burn out because God is trying to shift them
from performative conditional faith and confirmation to actual faith and surrender. And this is what God wants from us. So when you're wanting to learn and retain information, beautiful, but you're missing the whole thing about retaining the information comes from grace. Grace is this thing of, I will work hard and I will plan boldly, but I'll surrender the outcome to God and that's what it comes down to at the end of the day. Every baby Christian, listen up, this is what you have to learn about surrender is not what I can do for God. It's what can I step and step away because of God? How can I allow God into the equation so he can do it for me? That's the whole premise of surrendering. This thing is blowing my mind right now for the reason that I hurt my Achilles or whatever and I was like so focused on the recovery process. I was like, I need to sleep right and do all the workouts George gives me perfectly or whatever and never once in that thought process was like, hey God, I'm gonna do this to the best of my ability and if you can heal me, I would appreciate that. Now I did recover at the end of the day and then I hurt my back and even in this back process, I keep, it's so much of me of like, oh, like I didn't stretch properly
which is why it feels strained today. I'm always, I have this nervousness versus okay God, it's not healing exactly the way that I want so that must mean something. So I will do the best that I can. I'll rest today. I'm always trying to like ice it a little more so maybe I could go a little extra hard or like okay, my back doesn't feel amazing today but I'm gonna still push through the workout because that's gonna get me closer to recovery instead of just thinking like, all right, it's not going the exact way that I want. God, what do you want from this and that's it. Maybe I won't. Yeah and it's also crazy because there's also even, I just think about everything that we're doing on the business side. It's like we have plans and we all work very hard and I've had the idea of like, it must be God in reality. Like right, we always have plans and they always go 10X what we expect. Like it's always just the result is never what we think it's gonna be. And even in planning for 2026, never have I, well, I have thought, okay, like we're gonna plan all this and we're gonna do our best and hopefully God blesses it. But I'm never truly like, every day I wake up and I'm like, I gotta move through this checklist or else we're not gonna get to the end goal
versus I'm just gonna do the best I can and God, if it is your will, then the results will come. Come facts, not surrendered, not surrendered. Yeah, basically. But that's why I'm here, Mita. Yeah, but you're mean to me. No, that's why I'm mean to you. That's why I'm mean to you. Look at imagine working with a guy who thinks he's God. I'm just kidding. Oh, yeah. No, I'm genuinely, though, not surrendered in in in a few senses of that. Don't touch me. I'm genuinely, though, not surrendered in the sense that I can have I can. I understand that surrendering is like alignment with God's plan. Basically, how can you align with what his plan is already for you? And then just accepting that kind of I guess the non surrender comes from. Like, I just really hope the plan is fire for me. It's like I just really hope the plan does not. So I was talking to this kid at church about that. Well, I've seen five years old. He's now 17. You know, he's grown up and, you know, he's just he's just a good kid. And he's he was talking to me about looks maxing. Right. And he's like, bro, I my plates are closed. What he said, you need a lot of it. Look it up. He needs looks maximum. No, but like so he was talking about knee lengthening, lengthening surgery. What's that?
You need foot shrinking surgery. Do they got that? Yeah, but it's OK, but sorry, sorry, but he was well, got paddles for feet. They'll fix this medically someday. He has to get custom shoes. Boy, you guys shack shoe shack. Yeah. So he's talking about looks maxing and he was just being honest with me. He's like, you know, Johnny's uncle Johnny in Korean. He's like, I feel like a lot of people tell me things just to cope. He's five, six, 17 years old. He has a hard posture to want to be tall. And so I was like, hey, you know, I know you're tired of hearing. Pray about it. Maybe God will make you taller. Right. He was very logical. He's like, I went and got x-rayed. The doctor said that my plates closed. Apparently, that means you can't grow anymore. The fact that there is no more calcification in the bones, et cetera, et cetera. Right. All this logical these 17. I'm like, these kids are smart, bro. When I was 17, I was like a prison. Like that was it. You know, so I'm sitting here and I'm like, man, this kid is logical, but I could see he's super condemned. So he tells me straight up, Johnny, I don't even pray anymore because I almost feel like it's a it's fraudulent. When I'm sitting here and I'm saying I'm thankful to God, I'm really not. So I'm like, you know, what's funny is like you're you think that you have to be
this, you know, super beautiful, articulate prayer. I told him, just keep it real with God. And it was like I his eyes lit up. He's like, I was like, you can tell him, hey, God, I honestly do want to be tall. And I pray, Lord, that yes, with my because he's doing stretching to get taller. He's running to get taller. Right. I guess at 17, you just want to be tall. You just want to, you know, whatever it is. So I understood him and I wasn't telling him the pastoral ministerial guidance that most people would say have faith in God, believe he'll do it. And if not, you know, you don't need that. That's vanity. Like I didn't tell him any of that. I said, if you want that and it matches up with alignment of God's plan, why wouldn't he give it to you? The thing is, I don't think he wants you to idolize it. So he's not going to give you something that's going to poison you. However, I think you should still go to God and be like, God, this is my real heart. I really want this. And if that's the case, like if you give it to me, great. If you don't give it to me, OK, then can you give me the heart? Because I'm going to be honest. I don't at least for now. I don't want to. I don't want to be short. Like no one wants to be short. You're 17. Why do you have to be short? Right. It's not that bad. Yeah, the way you're saying it is triggered. The way you're saying it is just kind of a little bro. It's not like your life isn't over forever.
I know it seems like it now. That's your time. I know it kind of is. But I'm sure, too. I'm five, three. So it doesn't matter. Anyways. And Jeremy must be like three, nine. Just kidding. Continue. So so I told him that and he was like, so Uncle Johnny, do I just tell God like what I really feel? And I was like, yes, because he doesn't want you to fake it. And this kid was very like sincere and he was honest about it. He's like, I just don't want to like be this height basically. And I don't I can't change my heart to sit there and say that I'm OK with it. That's not what I want. And I was like, so then go to God. And I was like, there's times where I think about it, too. Like, OK, God, I'm I'm frustrated and I'll pray like that. And he just looked at me like you pray like I'm frustrated, God. Like, yeah. What's wrong with that? If he's our father, right? Like imagine talking to your dad like oh Dad of all dads like your worldly dad, you know Amazing father of mine best chef in Koreatown father like, you know, it's like he would be like, yeah, hurry up Like what do you want? You're looking at me weird. So I told him when you talk to you your father Just talk to him. Normally, I think that I don't know his dad So I can't say but I think that for me was like when I was talking to my dad It was very like dismissive or like it's a Korean dad. Like there's no love. There's no understanding and again It's a lot of like just either, you know, work hard pray about it. You don't go to church enough It's a lot of like you don't do these things, which is why you're where you're at So sure, I cannot kind of understand as a 17 year old you're not the close your dad is like the last person you want to be close with true, but that is That's kind of crazy to me that at 17
He's thinking about leg lengthening surgery, and I think that's the power of social media though dangerous the crazier thing that you said is um You're like get your hand away from I'm not gonna touch you. I swear why every time I talk Already leave comments. I swear to God They already leave comments about making it worse Can't hide it. Um No the craziest thing cuz he's not going to his dad he's going to God and it's like the thing that you said is um, like if you're gonna pray for some things like it may happen and if not pray that you have the heart to accept that it Doesn't or whatever which is like that's the craziest parts like When you pray correctly You're gonna get one of two things What you prayed for or the heart to accept that you're not getting what you pray or number three sometimes something better Yeah, interesting. You just never know. I think it's always better Even if you pray for exactly what you want It is always better than what you exactly what you want because you don't you think you know what you want Until God goes this is what you actually want and it like blows your mind I would not be mad if I suddenly was like six four just putting that out there God's like this is what you actually want like platform shoes That's why they made those tick-tock shop shoes that yeah, it's five foot one six foot one or whatever it is Yeah, it's like well then but that's counterproductive because then I'll just buy those shoes and I'll be like seven Still I'll just waste a hide at that point Being comfortable in your airplane seat Also, just like the joke thought of like you not understanding any of it and you going home and just like praying to be taller God, I know I'm like pushing 30, but please reopen those plates Show up next week like it frickin words We'd have the number one podcast I Prayed for Tom's IDs
I can now reach the top of the fridge. Oh Dude on that topic cuz cuz a young kid being influenced like that is it is Yeah, it is very hard like especially the way that people structure information. It can be very believable Yeah, he was talking about peptides. You just crazy kids Do it when you're young you don't need peptides because your body's producing on all maximum just healthy food and you can like Literally focus on it now like you're gonna be fine, but kids want that It's that shortcut hack, right? It's it's like that. I want it now and it's impulsive, you know But I think he was able to just have fellowship with me and then be freed from all of that And yeah, of course, he's gonna change his heart again, you know and stuff like that We're hiring guys core of the heart is hiring but listen carefully we're not just building a company We're building one of the fastest growing Christian communities in the world in just a year and a half This community has grown to over 3 million strong and we're nowhere near done Our mission is simple but massive to build the best tools and resources to help anyone in the world get closer to God Our first immediate goal is to get a hundred million people in the heaven So when we say we're hiring understand this we're not looking for employees We're looking for mission driven a players that want to change the world Our criteria is simple don't show us what you could do show us what you've already mastered Like if you want to be the short form editor show me the millions of views you've gotten on short form if you want to Be the podcast producer show me the shows that you've successfully produced. Genuinely, I can't do this without a team, so I'm very thankful for anyone who supports the mission. I look forward to hearing from you guys. Australia just passed a law in December that bans all social media for kids under 16. Social media platforms must make effort to make sure that they're not sneaking around trying to get back on the platforms. Do you guys think that's good or bad? Really? Yes. There's their kids' content, like I know there's kids' YouTube. No, they cannot get on, they're not allowed to make an Instagram account, TikTok account, you're not allowed to be on the platforms if you're under 16. Really? Yes. That's fire. Yeah, I read an article about it. I like that. I think it's good, and with everything, it's gonna have good and bad. Good in that, of course, they won't have all this brain rot access to all this thing that, literally. Or just influence like that. Right, but also it could, I don't know, I also see it as,
I'm not a conspiracy theorist or whatever, but I do know the one degree shifts and the good intentions. I always know that good intentions are not God intention. And everything, marriages that end up in divorces, divorces didn't just start off as divorces. It started off with two families bringing each other together and getting married and good intentions. So just being careful. I don't trust the human heart. It's not even the government, whatever. The human heart, we're naturally corrupted. I say this even about kids. When do you teach kids how to lie? Baby Isaiah was like two years old, bro, was lying already. I was like, where did you learn this? You're born in church. These other, you can't even say anything. You're like, da, da, ma, ma, like that's it, but you're lying. He was throwing rocks at Pastor Kim's car one time. Boy had the biggest rock in his hand. I sat there and I was watching him. And he had horrible aiming. He's just like, yeah, pew, pew. And then I walk up to him and I go, Isaiah, why are you throwing at rocks at pastor's car?
And he goes, puts his hand like this. And he's like, no. And I was like, did you throw rocks at the car? No, no, literally. I'm like, who taught you to lie, bro? We're born that way, right? It says Isaiah in Psalm 58, verse three, it speaks about this. They speak lies from the mother's womb. And it's like, interesting. They don't even know English or the language yet, but it's just their nature, right? And so if we're naturally just kind of opportunistic without realizing it, we have good intentions, but unintentionally or subconsciously, we do these kind of evil, inherently bad things, then I can't trust it. Because when money's involved, hearts change. When motives are involved, hearts change. Like when shiny object syndrome comes, hearts change. We flip so fast. It's just crazy. I saw a TikTok recently where this power couple was on social media. I don't know who it was, but it was like, they were famous A-list celebrities. And it says something like, he was holding the girl behind, right? And it's like, how can you go from this, and they were together for like 10 years,
to then they broke up, and then on the streets, they pass by, and they're not even looking at each other. It's like, I was like, shared my body with you, shared my time with you, shared my life with you, shared my family with you. And then when I see you, I'm just like, whatever. Like, you go from like being married, to straight up being, I don't even know who you are. Like, nor do I care who you are anymore, you know? So that's what the human heart does, genuinely without God, 100%. And even with God, things, you know, wishy-washy, get tempted, et cetera, so. So if Prime Minister Chang, what would you do instead? Do you think that it's just like a stupid law? Bro, I would fix the issue at the core. You guys know already my answer. If you bleed the gospel into everything, I genuinely think, if you're teaching what the gospel teaches, think for others, place others above yourself, which, and I'm not talking about one set of people. I'm talking if everybody thought like this. If everybody was like Jesus, and thought, and just modeled your life like him, I don't think these issues would arise. I think we would sit there and be like, yeah, I wanna do this, but let me think about other people. Now, obviously, that's fantasy land,
because nobody's really gonna follow that. But that's why we're here to try to at least blanket the world with the gospel. The gospel is literally, as cliche as it sounds, to me, I believe wholeheartedly, it is the cure. If you teach somebody the gospel, if it can change someone who went, who did crazy stuff like me, you guys know my story. If it can make my father, who was literally like beating me, telling me he hated me, to then go and give parental advice online, and be like, I'm sorry, I messed up, this is where I messed up, and have all this awareness, and self-reflection, and et cetera, et cetera, then how can it not change even the worst corrupt people? We went to the Polonsky unit. We saw literally people just changing. And like going, wow, I never heard it this way. We see them in these little cells, locked down 23 and one, 23 hours a day, one hour of rec, and they're flipping through the Bible, telling me to like, hold on, hold on, so they could get to the Bible verse. Like, this is what God does to people, and people don't realize that. This is what the gospel does to people. But again, a lot of people don't reach that position. They're like, whatever. Pastor Kim was talking about it today in the sermon,
how his father was like, oh, you can't listen to church. They're full of hacks, and they're full of scammers, and they're this and that. But when he kind of had a brush with death, and he realized that none of those things mattered, then Pastor Kim was able to then preach the gospel to his own dad, and his dad passed away, receiving salvation. Yes, it was a deathbed salvation, but still he received it in the end, right? He went from mocking the church, not being able to even bring up Jesus, because he was so repulsed by the name, to then being like, you know what? I'm gonna die. And on his deathbed, he was calling all of his friends, like, yo, guys, I'm gonna go up there and prepare a place for y'all. And they're like, what the heck? Like, I only have six friends that are left, and I wanna preach to all six of my friends. Like, how do you go from ridiculing the church to having a change of heart and going, I was wrong, and I really do wanna be a good friend and care about them, and then preaching the gospel to them? That's just only the gospel, I think. There's nothing else that's really transformative like that. Just give them Angel Studios, basically. Yeah. Is it like all gospel-centered social media?
Yeah, core of the heart. Yeah, I'm like, maybe we can, I don't know if we even wanna leave this in, but. Christian Mingle? If there is no, like, just straight up Angel Studios of Instagram, like what Angel Studios is to Netflix of what a Christian app should be to Instagram. That's what I'm saying, we can cut this out. No, no, no, leave it in. My question is. Who would be interested in that? No, no, no, no, no, it would be, what is Christian social media to you? Because my idea of social media is, it's social, you're posting about things, and at the end of the day, it's like, who's determining what's Christian or not? Because I wanna post my gym fit, and someone else is like, Jezebel, you know what I'm saying? Or I want to. We should do it like OG Facebook, where it was just like a community, and then didn't it start like that, where it was just college, and you had to be fraternity, and it was just in there, and then obviously it branched out to everything else. We should do spiritual, test the spirit quizzes,
where it's like, are you guys aligned with scripture? And then let them do it, because then it would be like, what's the issue with all of that other stuff? We have to sit here and re-imagine what social media is, because our idea of it is only the Instagrams, and the Facebooks, and the Vine, but what would? I think it would be just pretty terms of service that was biblically anchored terms of service. So at the end of the day, people can disagree whether or not I'm posting a bikini pickers or whatever, but there would be moderation on it, that would just be like. Is this, yeah. More than 50% skin, not okay. If you want to wear a crop top, 30%, like whatever the terms of service is, it's like you can. Oh, so maybe everyone should be covered except their eyes. That sounds like something. Oh. I'm just kidding. Only show 2% skin. Yeah. No. Haram, haram. No, that's funny. I think that that Australia ban on social media
for everyone under the age of 16 is interesting, and I'm jealous of them, and good for those kids or whatever, but low key in the state of the world, it could just put them behind. It's like when you have so many people making entire lives and careers off of social media, and now an entire continent is not gonna get it until they're 16. I mean, they're just totally behind at that point. You're late. I would, it makes sense, but I think they would be more mentally developed though. Yep. I also disagree with that, because also the percentage of people actually taking advantage of social media is tiny, tiny. Think about the people that would literally give them a blueprint of how to make a viral video, and they don't do it. Sure. It's so, so small, and I think also, I also felt that way about my friends that were homeschooled. I was like, you guys are weird, but then they would attack, they would. Jeremy, stop.
You're gonna get canceled. No, no, no. My sister was homeschooled. My oldest sister was. Sleepy was. Yeah, and look at her. Nah, I'm just kidding. I'm just kidding. She's weird. She's awake. She calls herself Sleeps. My oldest sister was homeschooled, so it's like, I have a black friend, you know, it's the same. My oldest sister at homeschooled, don't come for me, but, you know, a lot of times where I would think like, oh, like you said, they developed in other ways where I'm like, they're way ahead of everybody else, and then they get the socialization in like three, four years of high school, you know what I'm saying? Figurative facts. So I actually, I'm really excited to see what the difference is, and I think it's gonna be just different. I don't think they're gonna be that negative.
I think that there's gonna be some positives from it. And a lot of times, like I didn't like that my dad did this to me, but at the same time, I do appreciate it. When cell phones came out, I did not have a cell phone. Until I was a senior in high school. So everyone in middle school. Yes. Yes. So no, no, no, no, no, no. Sorry. Sorry. Sorry Junior end of sophomore years when I got my cell phone going into display But when were all the people you were friends with getting phone middle school? So eighth grade seventh grade They also had phones. You know what? My mom would do to track me down. She'd call all my friends So every one of my friends had J mom saved in their phone and then they would just be like yo Your mom was looking for you like that's so fun. Yeah, but um, but other than that though I just didn't I didn't really have a phone or like it's not like hooked on all those things Yes, I felt like I was missing out but look how smart and intelligent I am No When did you get your first phone? 25 really didn't have one at 6. Yeah. No. What do you think he was? I think at that time we had only beepers I think Like yo pages like pull up It just says eight yeah You just turn back 35 remember that like pages that was like hey That's what I remember. No, no, no that that I'm lying. There was a like a razor. I remember a razor phone I remember the little tiny flip phones. I remember motor. I remember it's Nokia phones where there was snake But I didn't have any of those, you know, so your first one was really 25, what was it? Oh, I don't know if I remember it was either sidekick or a blackberry or both. I had either or yeah Yeah, I think I'm both of them. I shared my first phone with my brother until Seventh or eighth grade lame When you got your first phone, what are you laughing at?
I just I'm just funny what I'm thinking about when I got my first phone Yeah, when you got your first phone was your mind blown blown I Was like, what is this? I was literally like I didn't even want to use it Under his bed his dad's trying to come on Johnny. Come on out Bluetooth my teeth gonna turn blue I Mean, you know, there's a comment where people hate you Yeah No the guy was literally like every time Johnny's about to say something and it's so serious and Jeremy just cuts him off. Hey, listen, I agree. Hey, listen, this is what I like. No, no it didn't and I'll say this I read them. I read them every once while and this is my message to you lock eyes with me. I will never go away So if you don't want me you could go tune into a live stream I'm never there or a main stage or anything else But for now on this podcast, I'm never going away The podcast just lost 10,000 subscribers. Yeah good Please don't subscribe. I'm so sorry. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I was I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I just Apologetic I was genuinely Mind-blown and I made a decision. I was like, this is too hard. I felt like my parents Like, you know how my mom she would like when I would give her like I remember getting her eMachines computer from Best Buy No Circuit City at that time and she she was like double click What the hell is a double click and then like she would double click the right? Right and then it would like it, you know, you have to like double click with the left She would like double click the right and she just got so mad. She's like this machine to broken, you know She's like getting mad. Yeah legit. I would get mad at her be like, what are you talking about? You don't know that right? But then when I got the phone, I felt like my mom, right? I was like, what do you do with this? I don't like aren't you? Why don't you just know bro? You could check your emails you go. Why would I check my emails? Why would I do that? No, but look at the keyboard It's all like this big. I'm like, why would I do all of that bro? Like where's the number at like where do I put in the number to like call my homies big old Shrek hands trying to type
On those tiny keyboards and then they had the they were teaching me with the blackberry because they had the ball like the yeah And I was like, what the hell is this? Like, uh, you scroll too hard. It goes too far. You scroll too late, right? It's like dude, I'm sick of this and I legit in my mind. I was like, oh, that's cool But I started to feel almost depressed low-key. I was like dang I literally am NOT with the times like I I'm like I went and I told people do you guys have flip phones and they Would be like, yeah, and they were like 20 30 bucks and I was like, I remember these were like hundreds of dollars Why are they so cheap? And he's like bro. The guy at T-Mobile was literally like So I'll be real for the first like Maybe two months. I had a flip phone and I was Do all my stuff on my flip phone. And then they would send emojis and stuff. And I wouldn't know what the, like, it just would be all like messed up. And I'm like, Oh man, you just see the square, the blank square. Yeah, it was, yeah, it was like, I was, it was Hebrew. It was a Hebrew letter, but I was like, Olive. Well, that was my trauma. You're dying. I was literally so sad. I was like, I'm not going to use these. So then my first real phone that was a smartphone, believe it or not, was an iPhone. Really? Yeah. I forgot which one it was. What made you like, okay. After you hating it and having such a poor experience, I'll tell you what it was. I'll tell you what it was. My mom got my dad an iPhone. And I'm like, if that freaking old crusty man could use it, like I got pissed. I was like, I'm going to use it.
And so I didn't, and me and him were beefing at that time, obviously. But I was just like, man, I'm going to try that. And I tried to learn it and believe it or not, it was way simpler. Yes. And then I was like, whoa, this is easy. Like, okay. I can click here. I can touch here. Like, oh, wow. There's a touch, but like now it's on the screen. Right. And then I remember like the guy was like, what, what's the best pointer your finger, you know what I mean? And I was like, oh, true. Oh yeah. The, a womb, you know, I was just like touching it and it was, it was better after that, then I started to get like cocky with it. And then they were, Samsung's were coming out and I was like, Oh, you could do more. And then people were like, Samsung's are better because like iPhone updates will take like, like 20 years to get this update that Samsung already is like, has like 10 updates ahead of it. You know? Yeah. I remember jailbreaking my iPhone. Yeah. You have to go through Voyager warranty, all this illegal stuff just to get like green texts, like purple texts. I'm like, guys, look at this customization, like stuff Android has done for years. So then after that, I got pissed at, like, I felt like iPhone was just trying to put us in a prison.
Right. And I didn't understand like their whole culture and they're creating a world, obviously. So I was like, man, forget that. And then I went straight up Samsung number one, number one, number one. And literally I did. I always use galaxies. I always use, you know, the note, the note to all that. And then, yeah. And then recently I, because of you guys, every time we have to make a new group chat, then he's like, uh, guys, sorry. Yeah. It's like every single time we want to add somebody, you have to create a whole made other new employees, get iPhones required, but that's the most genius of iPhone. They can easily, they can easily make it cross compatible, but they said, no, they cornered us, but there is some cross compatibility now with it, but not the same. It's not, it's not, no, it's not. I was galaxy forever to literally bully people into getting the iPhone. It's like a status. I remember switching over. I was galaxy forever. It was way better. Always better. I remember you could split screen on the galaxy, which iPhone still can't do. There was so much that there was swiped to texting on it years before I found everything widgets, all of it. It was, it really was amazing. But I switched over eventually because, um, Snapchat was just worse.
Like when you would take the camera quality, everyone would see, like, you would know who was had an Android. It was like laggy buggy. And I remember it became like, you're kind of, it became a pretty big part of my life. So I was like, that literally is what made me finally switch. I bought an iPhone for Snapchat. I'm laughing. The things that make, the things that make you change is to just one up someone. They basically call you a B word, whether it's directly or it's, you know, indirectly your dad, because your dad, that's so funny. That's what got you into technology for you. It's like some goofy dinky thing that I remember when I was a freshman in college, purple text. When I was a freshman in college, I was, I was, they've just started the Snapchat campus stories. That wasn't stories that like the group stories first existed. I remember I would go viral on there like constantly. And I finally was like, I got to get the iPhone. Like what would you go viral for? I would just post random Snapchats. Like I would just post things of just whatever's happening around campus or whatever. Just like good stuff. Just my friends doing stupid stuff. It's all on my Tik Tok now. Like you can go find it all. That's so funny. I got my first hundred thousand followers on Tik Tok, just doing nothing but posting old Snapchats.
Wow. I was like, wow, I have hundreds of 10 second vertical videos. That's what Tik Tok was made for at the time. Posted them all. And then it's good content. Wow. Dude, that's so the, the, the cell phone store is funny because then after that, like, you know, it's interesting. It's like, once you learn how to use something, you have that knowledge and the framework works for, if you have an iPad or whatever it is. Like for example, like once I learned on the cameras, the, the, the, I blanked on the name already. ISO. Yeah. ISO, aperture. It's like any camera I look at, I'm like, okay, I, I don't know what the buttons do, but I'm like, if I could control those three, I can make it look decent or whatever it is. Um, yeah. So it's just like basic structures. What do you remember? Brick break on, on Blackberry. it was like the game where like the ball is bouncing you know no no you know break you'd have to break you'd have to break bricks all day no no I know step on bricks brick brick lace brick break I'm not familiar with that one this episode has been about a bunch of different topics but it's all kind of focused on focus yeah it's all been focused on focus it's all been centered on focus how do you make sure you don't lose focus on God when you're constantly being blessed the only way that you lose focus on God is if something becomes more important than God so with every which with whatever
you're doing you always have to keep God at the sensor and yeah well okay so wake up to-do list for work yes and it could be monotonous thing I got to go talk to the lawyer I got to do this meeting I got to write out this marketing plan how is that really got at the center you know what I'm saying I just have to get through that list like a puppy who doesn't realize how big they are yeah felony was like that my king course a huge boom just jump on me I'm like throw on my back a girl or a guy who's a boy felony would be a like a pretty girl's name yeah it would be if you named your daughter felony no that's a that's the negative kind of no you just think about a felony felony don't think about it like you're thinking of like Melanie yeah but just remove the word if it was just like felony felony sounds good okay are you named after that what was the question see I forgot men no because you said so he's going to work you're doing your you're doing your routines how do you got there yeah how's that keeping God at the center because at the end of the day I'm just doing a task keeping God at the center is not just doing tasks for him right if you have the mindset of like oh like I have to do something for God by keeping him at the center no keeping him at the center can be something as simple as I'm doing all these tasks God but I know that I need your grace to then allow me to do these tasks so yes I'm gonna do these things and again I'm going to plan boldly but I'm gonna surrender all of this to you I'm gonna surrender daily and so God here you go yes I'm gonna move forward thank you again for even allowing me to move forward thank you again for whatever outcome that comes out of it if this messes up it's either a lesson or a blessing and so I appreciate that that is something as small as that is keeping God at the center because most people don't even do that they get up and they again very monotonous with everything and let me do this let me do that and then they're like yeah I did that no at the end you could be like wow God you did that you allowed me to do what I did but at the end of the day it was because of you hmm and that seems like I think that's easier when you're the your question was like how do you keep God at the center when he's blessing you and I think it's almost easier for me at
least to be appreciative when I'm being blessed but how do you keep God at the center when you're taking L's when it seems like he's not blessing you in a sense yeah by trusting him so trusting in God is not oh you it makes sense to me you're blessing me then I'll trust you it's Lord I know that this doesn't seem good right now but I know and I trust in your goodness cuz you're God you have no evil so this looks bad to me I might have just lost my job or I might have just you know got lost this relationship but Lord you never like subtract without multiplying so I think genuinely you don't have to plan everything out and see all of the good you just have to know that God is good and if he's if his hand is there and you have given it up to him through surrender then you can then trust that aspect right like kids who are walking across the street with their parents they don't know why they have to hold their hand like they don't know what protection is they don't know any of those things they just know when I'm crossing the road I have to hold my dad and mom's hand and yes they will I guess I guess keep me safe but they don't know what true safety is they don't know what true danger is even right because they don't know any of those things so it's it's the trust that their parents will lead them to safety in the same way I don't know there could be you know the car of depression the car of loneliness the car of failure but like as long as I'm holding to God's hand and I know for sure he's holding on to me my parent then everything is gonna be okay and this is how we're able to then trust God with everything through everything for everything okay well that trusting God does sound nice and easy while I'm sitting here in my own comfort but like when something horrible happens let's say I crash my car it's hard for the first thing I think to be like okay I trust that this is okay it's like what do you have any practical steps what do you personally do yeah so I let my emotions process I don't try to fight it if I get frustrated I acknowledge that and I trust that and trust that to God Lord let's say I crashed my car Lord or my beautiful Audi crashed my car. I love that, I love that car so much,
but God, I know that you allowed this to happen, but I am frustrated. Obviously, now I gotta do insurance and everything else, and I don't have another car, let's say, and Lord, please give me the heart, because if you don't give me the heart, I am gonna stay frustrated. So allow yourself to be frustrated, allow yourself to be human. And then, in the same way, that does huge, it just helps so much in that you don't, you're not dealing with it by yourself anymore. You're gonna process your emotions regardless, right? But imagine adding God into the equation of that. It's not asking God to take away the pain, it's asking God to step into the pain. And so this is what it comes down to at the end of the day. God, please help me. Don't remove the pain, or if you think you should remove it, great, but please help me with everything, and yeah, I'm hurt, that's why I need your help, right? People are trying to do this toxic, super Christian vibe, right? Where it's like toxic positivity on a spiritual sense. Oh, even though it got crashed, yeah, I broke my leg. Yeah, thank you, God. Like, no, that's not what we're asking you guys to do. We're being honest here, just like the kid who asked me for the advice at church.
I was like, just be real with him. Lord, I'm frustrated. There's so many times I literally pray, and I'm like, I'm frustrated, I'm tired, God. Like, why do I feel like I have to always bend? There's times where I'm like, Lord, I feel like I'm a babysitter for everybody else, but nobody else babysits me and helps me anymore. Pastor Kim is kind of doing his own thing. I'm doing my own thing. How come people don't understand me, and I have to bend for everybody else? I will literally go to God with this, and then I'll be frustrated with it for a little bit, and then I'll talk to certain people, fellowship, even get in my feelings again, and then God always kind of returns it back, right? So that's just life. Yeah, that's crazy that it goes back again to not necessarily gonna ask for the pain to go away, but more so just to understand why the pain had to happen in the first place. Or it's like, you know, you crashed your car, but you could have gotten murdered on the road in 10 minutes from now if you didn't get in that little crash or whatever it is. It's like, if I crashed my car, I'd be like, thank you, thank you. Like, one of our elders was supposed to be on the flight to that New York flight that went through one of the towers.
Oh, really? Yeah, and so he was pissed. He was like arguing, like, no, I missed the flight. He was like going there for like cycling, basically, right? And so he basically had his career based off of this, and they just didn't let him on. I think he missed the gate close, like 15 minutes, whatever. He was like begging, and he was like straight up being a Karen and a Ken, right? Like, I wanna talk to your manager. They didn't let him go on there, and so he was pissed. He went home, he said he was spiraling, he was depressed, he was angry at God, he was swearing, he was cursing, and then on the news, it was like, boom, you know? That's crazy. Then he kind of felt like, whoa, okay, like, I'm wrong. You know, like, obviously God protected me. Then survivor's guilt came, right? And he's like, well, why would God only protect me and then not all these people? And then it started to kind of get into this thing, and then he had to go to God about that. Lord, what is it, what exactly am I thinking? Why did you preserve me, et cetera, et cetera, et cetera? And then pastor told him, it's not that God preserved you. It's that at the end of the day, God works, and he gives grace to who he gives grace to, and he gives, like, you know, blessings to who he blesses. You don't have to think about it like that. What you should do is honor all of those people
that were, you know, you were supposed to be part of that, and you should live your life accordingly. And honestly, he's been at the church, like, he used to drive from, he's from Florida, I believe, and our church would be four hours one way, and bro would drive four hours to go to the church, and then four hours back home. He would spend eight hours on the road just to hear a sermon at a house in Korean. Like, he couldn't, he was married to a Korean girl, and he couldn't even, like, understand it, but his heart was so thankful after that to be like, man, I want to serve God, and he's one of our elders in our church. So he's old. He's a white American dude, was in the Army, was in the Air Force, you know, for years, and was just, like, super legalistic in a lot of ways. But I love him. Me and him are, like, super close. He's guided me in many ways, and I'm just like, wow, you have a lot of faith. But it took him to be like, dang, I was supposed to die, and now I cherish my life 100%. His wife passed away from a cancer, and I think it was something as simple as a blood transfusion or blood infusion, whatever, but they didn't have that back then, right? Or I think she got it from the blood transfusion, something like that.
I forget the story, but he was okay with it. He was like, hey, you know what? Like, I understand God. Like, I can be thankful and joyous in all things. I count everything glory to him. Everything works for his glory. to those who love him, Romans 8 28. And man, he has tremendous faith. Like he gained that by realizing, dang, I have to go through this. I have to process my emotions. I had to lose my wife. I had to go through all these things to be as faithful as he was. And I don't think it's because of God. I think it's because we're hardened. It's because we're people who are very like, I need answers. And you know, and he had to break us down. If we were just humble from the beginning, I don't think God would have to humble us. Sure. Right? Why does it feel like like old white guys always have like 20 careers. It's like, I went through the military and then I had like my three kids and then I started a company and then I met the president. And then now it's just like.
They're all Forrest Gump. Yeah. Yeah, literally. I'm just like, bruh, I'm 35 and I can barely hold a job. Like, how do you live so many lives? It's my first house for a nickel. Their first house for a nickel is crazy. I'm always just like so impressed with their efficiency. So true. They're hard. They come from an era of just hard work. Yeah, they were. Our parents do too, though, low key. They just be grinding. My dad, my mom, same thing. Even my dad was an alcoholic. He was functional. Bro had like three jobs. I was like, dang, you're working hard, bro. And still couldn't pay rent or anything. But it was just, it was difficult back then. All that and you can't post every day on Blame Johnny Chang. Oh. Oh. Yeah, it's not like I'm doing a million other things like Johnny Chang Live and doing TikTok videos. Do you know, you're invited to my Orlando. And having people like Jeremy, you know, my freaking CEO throw stuff.
I mean, God, I bet you wanted him to hit me. It's like, oh my gosh, dude. Yeah, it's not like I'm spending time doing those things. I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry. That was a joke. That was mean. I quit. Don't hurt me, don't hurt me. I'm scared. It's not like I'm fighting with you guys on main stage. I'm just kidding. For five hours straight. My other question is with focus also comes a level of discipline, right? And so, you know, there's a lot of people that will probably listen to this and be like, you don't need God for the discipline. You just need to set that alarm. You just need to David Goggins yourself out of bed, which for some people that can work. It worked for me to a certain aspect. Obviously I burnt out. But what would you recommend to beginner Christians, and it's not even related to growing spiritually, but as they're trying to move into the new year and better their lives, how would you recommend someone stay disciplined? Like, is there a morning routine you would follow? Is there a technique? Like, how do you recommend someone build discipline?
Start your day with the word of God. We do our daily devotionals for a reason. That single handedly, we're talking to Israel today. Bro wakes up 4.30, four o'clock. All he can do is talk about God. He used to worry about job, work, whatever. Bro is like doing good, lived in the church and did all that. I'm not telling you guys to live in the church, but live as if every single day there's something to do like for God, not in a legalistic way, but like, okay, God, I woke up. You woke me up for something. Because if you think about yourself, right? Here's what I've learned. Every single day you have to lose to yourself. What I mean by that is Johnny gets up and he's like, bed. Bed is amazing. Bed doesn't argue with me. Bed doesn't call me heretic. Bed is so nice. Bed loves me. Bed is the sleep master 3000. Bed is amazing, right? It's a sleep number bed, okay? So it hugs me, right? Cuddles me. But for me to, if I win and I go, yeah, Johnny wants to lay in bed, so I'm gonna let Johnny win and do what he wants,
then I would get nothing done. Every single day I have to lose to myself. I want bed. Nope, get up. I have to fight myself. So step one is to start with the daily devotional, but step two is to lose to yourself every single day. Do the things you don't wanna do. Obviously productive things. You don't wanna do laundry, even if it's a little bit, do a load. If you don't wanna like, I mean, some people, I'm sorry, they struggle with like hygiene, flossing, brushing their teeth, things like that. You should do those things. You should do that, right? Taking a shower, whatever it is, like start small, right? Start small and then it's just the same with the Bible. If you wanna read the Bible multiple times, start with one verse. Read one verse. If you can get another one in, read two verses. If you can get three, read three. If you can get four, five, six, read until you're like, oh, I'm good and then stop. Do not force it, number one, right? But more importantly is you have to realize I can't do everything that I want. Because if you want to do everything you want, you will end up basically living miserable. You will be your own boss, you'll be your own creator, your own master.
And you're going to lead your life to destruction. That's just how it is at the end of the day. When I did whatever I wanted to do, I was literally, literally ended up in prison. I don't know why that is funny. That's a good routine. First, when you're saying lose to yourself, I was like, this guy stays losing. This guy's killing it for some reason. No, I'm just kidding. It's fair. I lose to myself and everyone around me every day. I'm just kidding. Is it biblical to lock in? Yes, it is. It's biblical to be interlocked in. Interlocked in the gospel, interlocked in Jesus. You have to be locked in with God. And what that means is, again, placing him above your thoughts, your feelings, your emotions every single day. And the way you do that is to reflect on every single time you reacted emotionally. And how did it work out? It's a net negative. If you're being honest with yourself. I can't be honest for you guys. I can only explain, lead you to the water. I can't make you drink. But if you're real with yourself, every time I had my emotional outburst, it never worked out well, right? My emotional 10 seconds, I traded 10 seconds. I literally 10 seconds of my life costed me 10 years of my life, essentially, right? A 10 second, literally 10 seconds.
A 10 second decision cost 10 years of my life. And for what? Because I had an emotional outburst. So again, every time I've reacted emotionally, every time you guys have reacted emotionally, I've said things that were disrespectful that I could probably never take back. I've hurt people just to kind of protect myself. I did so many things that are very horrible that I'm going to have to essentially live with for the rest of my life. And I realized it just wasn't good. So I've learned, do not trust your emotions. Emotions change. They falter. They're weak. Sometimes they feel so real, but they're not true. And there's a lot of miscommunications that happen because of emotions. And at the end of the day, if you want to live miserably, then you follow your emotions. But if you want to live peacefully, you follow the word of God. How can you know the word of God if you're not going to the word of God? At least daily, at least once a day. Dang. Dang, if you had to sum up in one piece of advice of focus and discipline is just being the word daily at some amount. Yes. Simple enough. All right, that's the end of the episode. We're locked in. No, let's just let's just let them know what we're building that is going to launch in two months. Two months? Three months.
Three months. Because it's early January. Why don't you let them know? You're the marketer. No, I'm just saying in three months, we're dropping an app that's going to help you do that. It's going to hold your hand through that every single day. There's going to be all kinds of tools in it. Your daily devotion, street tracking. So you can really see your habit growing. I didn't say that. I thought we said that. Yeah, we did. Actually, I think we said that one before. Yeah, we did already. I'm not going to say the other stuff, though. There's other little features in there that will just make your studying of the word more enjoyable because these are things that Johnny wish he had. Right. So he's basically creating a super app that would make spiritual life easier if he were to do it all over again. So that's all coming, too. But the biggest thing, too, I think is very cool is the gospel bot aspect, which is every single piece of teaching ever. We take all these podcast episodes. We take every single live stream, main stage, every single daily devotion. We feed it into this chat bot. So if you have immediate questions, if Johnny can't answer directly on live or something like that, you can just go to this bot and we're constantly improving it. So it gives very accurate answers.
All those things in itself are just going to help you walk spiritual life. And it's going to be, you know, choose that every day instead of opening it up and gooning or whatever it is you do. Choose that instead of going to DoorDash. Choose that instead of Instagram, even if it's just for a small amount of time. Just make make it a small part of your day. That's our goal. Yeah. Amen. And inside of that app has the actual Bible, too. Should we say? No, no, no. Because that's a cool it does have the Bible, but there's other little cool surprises. OK, don't tell the supplies. No supplies. We want to if they want the surprise. Join our wait list. Yes. Join the wait list because we're ready unveiling. You can only be on the way. All right. God tells me not to say anymore. Wait list is in the description, but I'm pretty sure we're dropping sneak peeks to the wait list. There's only the wait list. Only the wait list. Not even on Discord. They're seeing what the app is going to even look like, literally like the frames of what it looks like. Should I be?
Pull up my phone. No, no, no. You gotta give us your email. You gotta give us your email. Get on the wait list. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. This is gonna be game changing. There's nothing like this out there. We've, again, because it just doesn't exist. We've been working hard on this app, guys. Like, honestly, honest, for months. How long has it been? We've been- Six months? We started planning it. Well, I mean, we've been building parts of it, like Gospel Bot, obviously. Yeah, yeah, yeah. That took a while. But I'd say that it was summer when we really started to put this into motion. Yeah, so like six months? I'd say it really kicked off where it's like, hard, hard work, probably the last three. We've been going ham, guys. Hammy. Not in the finish line, but it's like, oh, it's gonna come up quick. We're playing with it now, which is cool. Yeah, and what's cool is we're gonna keep having updates
the more you guys use it. We move quick here, guys. Updates constantly, you know? And we will listen to what you guys say, too. So that's the cool thing. So true. That's what makes or break any app or game is how responsive the dev team is to the community. That's why I believe Fortnite became the game it was. There was other games that did the same thing, but their dev team was moving so fast, so many updates, so quickly. So I hope to emulate Fortnite. They got sued. They were working their developers too hard. It was illegal. They had an illegally good game. So we're not gonna go that hard. Yes, we are. I like this. I like this energy. Me, too. You know me, Jeremy. Yeah. Ride till the wheels fall off, bloody. I'd say the thing for me, and I'm just being honest here, is when I wake up in the morning, I try to put the Bible as the first thing I pick up, and then I have to pick it up,
and then I have to write notes into the journal. But then I'm like, because I wanna just, because the mind-body connection or the mind-memory connection with writing is better than just typing on my phone. But then I go out through my day, and I'm like, I have none of those notes. Whatever I read, I don't have. And then I gotta open up my phone, which I don't wanna do right away, and then I have to read the Daily Devotion, and now I'm in my email, and whatever it is, so. Figurative facts. So we're just gonna make things nice and smooth. All in one place. One-stop shop. One-stop shop is all we could say. We can get tickets? No. Oh, we could tell them that. We're literally gonna, so it is one-stop shop in that even with just the live events, you guys will be able to scan in, check in, write this so there's no more like, hey, I got four people coming, how do I? You just get the app, scan in, do-do-do, do-do-do, do-do-do, do-do-do, and that's it. Bible class, do-do-do, do-do-do, do-do-do, do-do-do.
Live stream. Oh, wait, wait, wait, wait. If they join the wait list, we'll have rolled out those previews. Okay. Yeah. Join the wait list, guys. App to 323-613-3577. Link in the bio. App, A-P-P, to 323-613-35, share one, share one. Share one, share one. That's gonna help people focus. Yes. That's gonna be the definition of focus. True, true. All right, well. And so that wraps the episode, guys. Thank you again, and I hope that it was fruitful for you guys. And remember, God is faithful. He wants surrender, but he will also help you guys surrender, and it's through resources like this, our daily devotionals, our Discord, all that stuff you can find, link in the bio. And if you did like this episode, please like, comment, share, subscribe. Helps us a lot. And with that being said,
we're gonna pray us out. So let us pray, and let us bow our heads. Father God, thank you again for allowing us this Unlearned Wisdom podcast. Truly, Lord, we can see that focus, determination, credibility, validity, all these things come from you, Father God. And we ask that you allow us to surrender to you, and allow the brothers and sisters to be honest with you, Lord, that you don't want a polished prayer. You don't want things that just make other people sound good, but you want everybody's heart posture through surrender. And God, allow us to remember that we're not in control, that everything, God, is in your hands, good, bad, all these things you will reconcile back to either a lesson or a blessing. And God, for that, we're forever thankful. Please allow the brothers and sisters to remember that sin is only a problem to them, Father God, but sin is not a problem to you, Lord. And to allow us not to focus on sin, because that would make it sin consciousness, but to focus on Jesus, which is Christ consciousness. Thank you, Father God. We leave everything in your hands. And in Jesus' mighty name, we pray, amen. Amen.
What should I leave a comment about? I can't believe Johnny freaked out like that. Oh, craziest crash out of the year. I can't believe Johnny crashed out. Classic Johnny. Yeah, like classic Johnny. Johnny, I can't believe he crashed out like that. I like that. No way. Someone sneak. I saw BC Johnny. Yeah, someone sneaked the word focus in there. Can't believe he lost focus. Yeah. Anyways, good job. Thanks for listening this long.
