Zion Church | Home Work Pt. 2 | Senior Pastor Keith Battle

Summary

In Colossians 3, Paul places the entire household under the lordship of Christ and reminds every family member to focus first on their own responsibility before trying to change someone else. Healthy relationships begin with praying, "Lord, work on me," because the people closest to us often reveal the areas where we still need growth and healing.

Paul teaches that a wife's submission is a willing and personal choice that reflects God's design for order, not inequality, since both husband and wife are created equally in God's image. The relationship within the Trinity shows that submission is about love and purpose, not inferiority. Husbands are called to love their wives with unconditional, sacrificial love and to reject bitterness, resentment, and scorekeeping. Instead, they should faithfully choose love each day, even when it requires sacrifice. Paul addresses the marriage relationship first because it is the foundation of the home. Like a plant, a marriage will flourish or wither depending on how it is cared for.
