Well, we're gonna jump right into it today. Go to the Gospel of John, the Gospel of John, John chapter two, John chapter two. It's interesting because we're gonna pick up today in the very first miracle Jesus ever did. And there's so much here for us to learn. What's interesting is in the miracles that John chooses to tell. For there were many miracles John could not include in the Gospel. Do you understand this? There were many miracles, in fact, at the end of John's Gospel, like there's not enough books in the world to be written to talk about the impact Jesus made in three and a half short years of ministry. So what John does is John says, hey, I'm gonna pick, I'm gonna select, like you chose your outfit today. He said, I'm gonna choose, I'm gonna pick some of the miracles. And it's interesting because the first one is found in John chapter two, and it's about life. It's about life. And then the last one is still about life. For Lazarus had died, and Jesus shows up, and Jesus says not today, devil. It's not gonna end this way. Aren't you thankful for our God who intervenes and interferes and steps right into the middle of your pain, right in the middle of your sorrow?
And you know what? He will step right into the middle of your disappointment. I got a question for you today. What is your greatest disappointment? Now, I didn't say who. Some of y'all went to who. I said what, and maybe your what is a who. Maybe you got a bunch of who's, and you got them over here in whoville. You're like, yeah, I could tell you about some disappointment. Jesus is greater than life's disappointments. Sermons, the word of God, it says preach the word. I'm gonna preach the word today. Preach the word. Be instant in season and out of season. And I'm gonna preach the word, but here's what I know about us as mere mortals. Here's what I know. We don't remember sermons. We remember sentences. So when there's a sentence out of a sermon, God can change your life. And here's the sentence I want you to remember. Jesus is greater than life's disappointments. Let's go to John's Gospel, John chapter two. John chapter two. Let's read this together. John chapter two. We're gonna read a couple verses here, 11 verses.
The next day, there was a wedding celebration. The next day, there was a wedding celebration. There's no celebrations like a wedding. And if the wedding's not a celebration, I'm a bent man. I remember doing a wedding. I won't mention the names. Maybe some of y'all were there. But it was at Christ Church. And if you know, you know. And this couple couldn't get their, they couldn't keep their hands off each other. I'm like, y'all ain't married yet. I mean, and she was almost petting him, you know. I mean, we were like, we're gonna have to, we're gonna have to end this thing quick. I mean, she was kind of rubbing his shoulder. I'm like, easy now, easy. There was love in the air. There was love in the eyes. Today, I want to preach a message entitled, do whatever he tells you. Do whatever he tells you. Do whatever he tells you. There was a wedding celebration. A wedding celebration in the village of Cana in Galilee. Galilee is the north part of Israel. It's the north part. It's where Jesus lived in that area. It's where Jesus ministered.
85% of Jesus' ministry was in Galilee. And so here is Jesus, and he chooses this time to perform his first miracle. I love this. Jesus' mother was there. There's something about when mama shows up, you're in your best behavior. You know, mama got eyes in the back of her head. But there's something also comforting when your mom's with you, hopefully. I'll speak it personally. prophetically. Just believe it by faith. Jesus' mom was there, Mary. Boy, Mary had been there his whole life. Mary was there before the Holy Spirit conceived the seed. For the first seed brought forth sin and death, but this new seed, this second Adam, would be the resurrection and the life. She was there the moment the angel told her, you're a virgin, but you're going to conceive a child. She was there during all the pregnancy. She was there when Joseph didn't believe at first. She was there when Joseph did believe. She was there when Jesus was born. She was there when the shepherds showed up. She was there when the wise men came a couple of years later. She was there. She was there watching him run around as a little boy. Isn't there something when you look back at pictures, you look back at pictures of your kids or your grandkids and you're like, dear God, seems like yesterday. How did, how did 10 years go by? How did 20 years go by? How did 30 years go? How did 40 years go by so fast? She was there. Mary was there and Jesus and his disciples were also invited to the celebration. I want you to remember that the wine supply, the wine supply, the supply ran out as your supply ran out before emotionally, mentally, physically, relationally, spiritually, where you just came to the end. It was dry maritally. Well, the wine ran out during the festivities. So Jesus' mother told him they have no more wine. How did Mary find out? I don't know, but she found out, did someone come to her? Did she just, she was just paying attention. Did she overhear someone or did she go to get another glass and there was no more? I don't know. But at the end of the day, Mary knew that the
wine supply ran out and Mary knew that that was a problem for all through the Bible. Wine represents joy, joy. Mary knew that this was embarrassing. Mary knew that this probably was not just embarrassing, but frustrating because the party was just getting started. What do you mean the wine? What do you mean the joy? What do you mean? This is ran out like no, no, no, no, no, no. Mary turned to Jesus with her problem. I want to ask you a question today. Where do you, who do you turn to when you got a problem? Mary took their disappointment and she took their disappointment to Jesus. See, as ministers, when you're in the ministry, and by the way, raise your hand if you're in the ministry, there should be every hand. If you're a Christian, you're in the ministry, you're in the ministry. Some of you just got ordained, you're in the ministry. So when we're in the ministry, we make a business of taking other people's disappointments and we turn them to Jesus. For they didn't come to Jesus. Some people don't know, my God, I'm going to preach it today. Some people don't know what to do with life's disappointments. So as ministers of the gospel, we get to, don't have to, we get to help people turn to Jesus with life's disappointments. That's what Mary did. And then I love this. This is so, this is so incredible. They've got no more wine. And Jesus says in one translation, woman, in this translation, dear woman, and Jesus wasn't talking down to his mama, but Jesus is speaking here, not just as her son, my God, but he's speaking as her savior because she wanted him to display his glory because she knew why he came. She knew he came to seek and save that which was lost. She knew who Jesus was and no one else in the celebration truly knew Jesus had just recruited his disciples. They didn't know yet. They were just excited. They're like, baby, we wedding crashers, let's go. They had a wedding. Jesus gets an invite. They're included. We're with Jesus. They're checking the guest list. I don't see your name, Doubting Thomas. It's probably not there.
Peter, James, John, some of y'all catch that tomorrow. I don't see your name. We're with Jesus. Oh, you're with Jesus. Come on in. We got front row seats for Jesus. Jesus says, dear woman, dear woman, my time has not yet come. But right before he says that, he says, dear woman, that's not my problem. It's not, this is not my problem. My time has not yet come. Now watch the faith of Mary. Mary, but his mother, scripture says, told the servants, do whatever he tells you. Did you know Mary had faith? Mary could have just backed down. She wouldn't be disrespectful or rebellious. He's like, woman, dear woman, the time has not come for them to, my hour, God's, and she's like, and she's mom too. And in faith, she turns to the servants. She looks at them. She gives that mama look and she says, do whatever he tells you. And you know what mama does after. She makes a statement like that. Mama leaves. Because mama understands the weight of her words. She walks out and I want to tell you something,
that faith, that faith will trigger miracles. See, faith is the trigger that ignites miracles. You don't believe it? Here's the first miracle of Jesus. And it's John chapter two. She has faith that even though he said his hour hasn't come, that she had faith that she could bring her problems, she could bring her life's disappointments to Jesus and watch this, she didn't take it with her. She left it with him. It's one thing to cast your cares on the Lord, first Peter five, seven, for he cares for you. But it's another thing to cast and not pick it back up. I don't know about you, but sometimes my burden stay on the hook and I cast it to Jesus and I reel it back to Tim until I can't handle life no more. And then I, oh God, I gotta cast it back to you and I reel it back to Tim. Because he's taking too long. He's not doing it my way. I don't think anything's happening. I don't feel any fish biting. So I'm gonna reel it back in, are you with me? But the Bible doesn't just say, just cast it. The Bible says he will sustain you. You can cast it and you can leave it. She brought the problem. She brought the frustration.
She brought life's disappointment to Jesus. And then when Jesus said, oh, it's not my time right now. She's like, mm-hmm, y'all do whatever he says. And she's out. Now look at how the story changes. I wanna ask you a question. Did you come up with it yet? Did you come up with life's most disappointing moment? Your most disappointing moment? If not, keep thinking. Because Jesus is greater than life's disappointments. Jesus is. He's greater than life's disappointments. And Mary turned that disappointment, she turned it around because she took it to the one who could handle it and do something about it. Have you done that with that disappointing moment? Have you done that with that disappointing season? Have you done that with that disappointing decade? Have you done that with that disappointing divorce? Have you done that with a disappointing relationship? Or should we say relationship slip? Have you done that? Mary teaches us something here. Take your problems to Jesus and leave it. And know you can walk away confidently, very confident. You can walk away and know Jesus got it. I don't gotta carry it anymore. Come on to me. All of you that are weary, tired, burdened,
you're exhausted, and Jesus said, I will give you rest. Jesus said, when you come to me, I'm gonna work on the thing that's been working on you. I'm gonna get to work on the thing that's been working and draining you. And we can just take it to him and we can leave with great confidence that he has it. Let's read on. Verse six, standing nearby were six stone water jars. Six, six in biblical numerology. is the reference for man, for imperfection. There were six. There were six, and what's interesting about these six, they were a lot bigger than this, but in my mind, I went into my office and I grabbed this real quick, because this just, I mean, this just feels like Bible times to me right here. I'm like, this just feels like something they probably had in the Bible. It was bigger. There were six of them, and the purpose for these stone water pots, where they would keep water in it, and this is how you washed yourself. This is how you washed before you ate. You'd wash your hands, you'd wash your feet. This was a religious, this represented, it really represented religion and the religious standard that you had to clean yourself.
Are you with me? This is gonna make sense in a minute. There were six of them. Six represents what? Man. Six represents what? Imperfection. Let me tell you, man can't do what God can do, and it happened, it happened that those six water pots were empty. They were empty. They were supposed to be filled, but they were empty, and in the Bible, in this story, these would represent religion, for religion says I will clean you up, but religion will always leave you empty, and the emptiness of religion is it can't cleanse your sins away. It can't get rid of your guilt. In fact, it will speed up your, it will accelerate your guilt, but it won't cleanse you from it. There were six of these, and they were empty, and it's interesting, look at this. Standing nearby were six stone water jars used for Jewish ceremonial washing. Each could hold 20 to 30 gallons, 20 to 30 gallons. That's a lot. That's definitely a lot bigger than this, but I like this.
I like this prop. 20 to 30. Think about this just for a second. Jesus told the servants, fill the jars with water. Fill the jars with water, and the next part of the verse says when the jars were filled, so it took some time. It took time to fill those water pots. There were six of them. 20 to 30 gallons per pot. If we had that here today, it would take time even if you had gallons of water. If there were three of you, it would take some time to fill those six to get it full, but notice what Mary said. Notice what Jesus said. Notice what they did. By the way, they obeyed because the next part of the verse says this. Jesus said fill the jars with water. The next part of the verse, the end of verse seven says when the jars had been filled, when the jars had been filled, and I wanna ask you a question. How good are you when it comes to obeying Jesus? How good are you when it comes to obeying Jesus? John 14, 15 reminds us where Jesus said, hey, if you love me, if you love me, obey my commandments. Obey me if you love me.
Would you say that with me? Obey me if you love me. Obey me if you love me. That's what John says, and so here is a wedding, and by the way, marriage, biblical marriage is holy. Biblical marriage is sacred. Biblical marriage was ordained by God, so how cool that Jesus chose a wedding that it was his idea for marriage. How cool that Jesus said, I'm gonna do my first miracle here because when you go to Genesis chapter two, it tells us about God making Adam. He was in the outback. Then God has a garden, and he brings Adam into the garden, and then later, he makes Eve in the garden. Women and men are different. Man was made in the outback. That's why men, you come alive when you're outside. Women. I love it. Come on, girl, let's go. You know, I miss you, and you ain't here now. You know this. I look for you. Some preacher's got. favorites, I'm just saying. Y'all talk to me like that, you'd be my favorite, too. But women be a little bougie. Look, come on, we got a little boutique here. Guys were like, yeah, I think that Dollar General may have corn chips. Eve was made
in the garden. They were different. And God brought Eve to Adam and he ordained marriage. Marriage is holy. In fact, let me tell you how holy it actually is. Scripture reminds us in Hebrews 13 verse 4, give honor to marriage. Give honor to marriage and remain faithful to one another in marriage. God will surely judge people who are immoral and those who commit adultery. That's Hebrews 13 4. So here is the setting. Here is the setting. We are at a wedding. They're having fun. They got wine. They got wine. Jesus said, fill it up. And notice what happened. Fill it up with water. And you want to talk about the God of acceleration. Let me just tell you what happened. Some of you already know. As soon as the pots have been filled, he said, now dip some out and take it to the master of the ceremonies. So the servants followed his instructions. You and I are God's servants. You and I are supposed to be God's servants. God's servants follows God's instructions. God's servants, we follow God's instructions. These guys were doing, they're like, we ain't answering to Mary. She had that look in her eye when she said, do whatever he tells you. We're gonna do it. And the servants followed his instructions. Verse 9, when the master of ceremonies tasted the water that was now wine, not knowing where it had come from, though of course the servants knew, he called the bridegroom over. A host always serves the best wine first, he said. Then when everyone has had a lot to drink, he brings out the less expensive wine. But you have kept the best until now. Save the best for last. Just when I thought the moment had passed, there you go and you save the best for last. Some of y'all old enough to remember that theologian Vanessa Williams. Most people, they bring out the cheap wine. That's not, I guess, too bad. It's cupcake. And by the way, listen here. If you struggle with alcohol, listen to me. The Bible says don't let anything control you, okay? So, so if you're here and you struggle with that, don't like leave and go get a bottle of wine. Well, I'm preaching a Bible message. So, we got to know when to hold them, know when to fold them. Like if that's where the enemy's got a grip on you, then declare you ain't keeping a grip on me. What else we got in here? I bought this bottle in
Israel. That's cool. It's got the Bibles, it's got the Bible verses on the back. The story I'm reading from John chapter 2 is right there from Israel. I bought that. What we got here? 2017. There's probably 2026 February. Oh crap, my time's gone. I'm just getting started. That's one of our favorites right here, this German wine. That's a good stuff. I got all this out of Stephanie's cellar. Some of y'all know about Caymus. What is this, Napa Valley 2019? And then we went to Mexico. We got this bad boy. It's gonna be a special occasion. I started thinking about this. I got to hurry up. I started thinking about Jesus turned the water into wine. When you take a seed, a grape seed, and you plant it and then you care for it and then you produce it, then you harvest it. How long does it take for the seed to turn into joy? Some would say great wine would take 20-30 years. Am I on track with that? And in an instant, because of faith, which ignited obedience, which invited the miracle, Jesus in an instant accelerated wine. Now I want to tell you something Real quick, I've heard a lot of messages from John chapter two, but no one ever told me how much wine Jesus Changed so I did the math. I Studied a little bit. It said there were six water pots each could hold 20 to 30 gallons That's what the Greek tells us 20 to 30 gallons. So on the low end if they were just 20 gallons Jesus Turn the water into 600 bottles of wine 25 if Instead of 20 gallons if it was 25 gallons 750 bottles of wine But if they were 30 gallons Jesus turned the water into 900 bottles of the best wine these guys had ever tasted That's the power of acceleration That's the power Jesus is greater than life's disappointments. Imagine real fast. Imagine the groomsmen Telling the groom
We don't want to tell the bride, but we're out why we just started Imagine how the groom felt This was not a good feeling. He was disappointed because he's like someone back there helping themself Someone's had more than a couple wine glasses glasses of wine They were disappointed Because that wasn't supposed to happen at the celebration. There are things in your life that wasn't supposed to happen But it did and The God of miracles accelerated a miracle in your life. I think about Johnny John Sullivan, dr. Bread's here. Sarah's here. I think about what God did in his life Yesterday at man up prayer breakfast, I didn't get the count, but I'm sure we had a hundred it was incredible. I love that I love that. I love what's happening with our men. By the way, ladies, if your man wants a motorcycle fully support him Fully support him. We we start a men's motorcycle ministry called. Let's ride Just support him You want a man not a boy just treat him like a boy You want a man not a boy just treat him like a man. Come on. Say come on. Come on. I know you dangerous. I Know I know you strong. Come on. I know you King, baby Come on, can the guys be a little courageous in this moment? Say man, come on. All right some of You But I started thinking I'm gonna lay in the plane cuz I could preach this message for hours But but I started thinking there's so much I want to tell you about this message so much I had to cut out of this message, but I just couldn't get past this one thought they invited him to the wedding He was invited what would happen if Jesus wasn't invited to the wedding Do you understand that because they had his presence they actually had his power a lot of us want the power But you don't get the power without the presence You don't get it and I started to think to myself What if they didn't have his presence? What if Mary was there? What if just the disciples were there? What if Jesus was the one that wasn't invited to the party? Have you invited Jesus to your party? Have you invited Jesus to your marriage? Have you invited Jesus to your parenting? Have you invited Jesus to building your business? What if Jesus had not been?
invited 900 bottles of great wine Was what hung in the balance? But because they had his presence They had his power You want his power get back to his presence Get back to spending time with Jesus get back to say it. Just give me Jesus and I'm done. Let's pray Heads bowed and eyes closed if you would Would you just stand to your feet I'm gonna ask the prayer team to come I Believe there's some people stuck I've been Before I've been even recently. Well, you get stuck in disappointment I'm here to tell you today you can turn and you can take life's disappointments to Jesus because Jesus Is so much greater than life's disappointments and Jesus can take that problem and he can turn it into a miracle. But for that power to flow, man, you need his presence. And it's available today. I wonder how many people will be honest. Maybe this message is for one person. I wonder how many people would say, Pastor Tim, I'll be honest with you. Like, I am right in the middle of the most disappointment I think I've ever gone through in my life. And if that's you, would you just raise your hand? Say, I'm there.
I'm in a disappointment moment in my life that is so heavy, so hard. There's hands in the air. Anybody else? We got a couple of hands. Who else? How many say, maybe Pastor Tim is not the most, but you know what? I'm wrestling with disappointment right now. Come on, hold that hand up. Hold it up. Hold it up. I just wanna invite you to take it to Jesus. Let's turn to Jesus in just a moment. In fact, you could come right now. You could come. See, here's the deal. These people down front, for most of them, I can say this. They've been verified. They got the blue check. They got a relationship with Jesus. I'm joking, that was earlier. Like, they're the real deal down here. From Pastor Steve to Brian, the women in between, Ashley, Lindsey, Cindy, you want these people praying with you, praying for you. You want that. I wanna invite you right now, if there's a disappointment.
Maybe God didn't answer your prayer. He hadn't answered it quick enough. Maybe you just wanna give thanks to God because the Lord is good. But if there's specifically disappointment in your life right now, you're walking through, I wanna invite you just to come pray. You can step out right now. Just step out right now. The Bible says, confess your sins one to another. The Bible tells us that if you will humble yourself under the mighty hand of God, he will lift you up. So it starts with humility. Humility accelerates healing. But God resists the proud. But God gives grace to the humble. So I want the grace. Don't you want the grace? And be humble. And you just come and pray. We're gonna dim the lights. We're gonna sing a song here in just a minute. We never like to close a gathering without giving you an opportunity to invite Jesus in your life. And if you're not a Christian today, I just, you know, this story, I mean, it just goes on and on and on. I could tell you this real quick. The water pots, six of them represents man.
The emptiness of religion, Jesus said, fill it with water. The Bible says that Jesus, the spirit of God is water, is water. That water resembles the word. Jesus said, in the beginning was the word and the word was with God and the word was God. So Jesus was saying, this is so good. Jesus was telling those people, this was not just real physical, this was also spiritual. But he was saying, fill those water pots with water. Let's get back to the word because the word can do what religion can't do. And then what happened, the miracle happened. See, Moses was the first one that did a miracle. He turned the water into blood, but Jesus came. Moses was all these religious leaders, greatest leader, but now Jesus, someone greater than Moses is here. And he's not gonna turn the water into blood. He's gonna turn the water into wine, but wine is significant. It reminds us of the power of the blood. Are you with me? And it was transformed in a minute. And what Jesus was saying to those religious people is what religion, Pharisees, will not, cannot ever do for you. I am here and the blood can change your life in an instant. Instead of religion leaving you empty,
my spirit can change you completely. That was the message within the context of that community. Jesus was making a statement. And I left off the last verse, so forgive me, but at the end, he, after saying my time hasn't come, John 12, 34 is when Jesus says my time has now come. But the end of this, verse 11, the glory of God was on full effect. By the way, every miracle is pointing to the glory of God. And the greatest glory of God is when a sinner becomes a saint. And if you're here right now and you're not a Christian, would you turn to Jesus? Would you give your life to him? And if you wanna do that, I wanna lead you in a sinner's prayer so Jesus can change your life and turn your. life around instantly. He can accelerate. Don't tell me he won't do it. From a sinner to a saint. Let's pray. Would you pray with me, church? You know what to do. Would you say, Jesus, thank you for loving me, bleeding for me, dying for me. I believe you rose again on the third day according to the scriptures. And I declare I'm a sinner. I need a savior. You turn the water into wine. Change my heart. Cleanse me. I declare Jesus is Lord. And I ask you, Jesus, to be my Lord, be my savior. I now give you my life. I surrender it all. I receive your life. Now teach me how to live in Jesus' name. Amen. If you prayed that prayer for the first time, you said, Pastor Tim, I meant it. I gave my life. I surrendered my life. That means he's Lord of your life. That means you're not Lord of your life. That's what that means. If you prayed that, you meant that. I want you to hold your hand up. We're going to clap. We're going to sing this song. You guys can go ahead and start. I want you to hold it up on the count of three. We're going to clap. We're going to celebrate. We got a gift for you. On the count of three. One, two, three. Right now. You prayed this morning. Gave your life to Jesus. You're
watching online. Are you watching at Blackwater? Come on. Hold that hand up. Let us know. Text that number. Text Jesus to that number.
