Day 59: Letting go of the names that aren’t yours anymore. | The Walk Out
Some names you’ve been carrying need to come off for good. Not just quieted. Removed.
TODAY’S TRUTH You can put down names you’ve been carrying for years. You don’t have to carry them forever just because you’ve carried them so far.
THE READ “Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.” — Isaiah 43:18–19
He’s making a way. New thing. Forget the old. Stop dwelling.
In your own words — what's this saying to you?
THE REAL There’s a difference between remembering what happened and carrying the name that came from it.
Remembering is fine. You don’t have to pretend the past didn’t happen. You don’t have to amnesia your way into a new self. The past is part of your story.
Carrying the name is different. The name says: this thing that happened isn’t just part of your story, it’s the headline. It’s who you are. That part has to come off.
Some names you’ve been carrying:
- Loser (from a parent who was disappointed)
- Stupid (from a teacher who didn’t like you)
- Trash (from a system that processed you)
- Failure (from a marriage that fell apart)
- Addict (from years that owned you)
- Felon (from a sentence that’s still being served)
- Damaged (from things that were done to you)
- Worthless (from your own internal voice that won’t shut up)
Some of those describe a behavior or a circumstance. None of them describe you, the person made in God’s image and named by Him.
Today is for letting them go. Not pretending they were never there. Just refusing to carry them anymore.
You can write them down. You can say them out loud and then say “you’re not mine.” You can pray and ask God to take them. You can do all three. The point is to make a deliberate move to put down what you’ve been carrying.
You’re not your past names. You’re who God says you are, going forward.
PULL UP Which names are you ready to put down today? List as many as you want.
Write it out — don't just think it:
THE MOVE Today, write down the names you’re letting go of. Then say out loud: “That’s not me anymore. I’m putting it down.” Then physically tear up or destroy the paper if you can.
Did it today? ☐ Yes ☐ Not yet — what happened when you did?
