Day 57: Walking into a room as the person God says you are. | The Walk Out
There’s a difference between knowing who you are in your head and walking into a room as that person.
The walking is the harder part.
TODAY’S TRUTH You can be the person God says you are even in rooms that don’t see it.
THE READ “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” — Joshua 1:9
God said this to Joshua right before he walked into the room of his life. The room was scary. The work was hard. God’s instruction was: be the person I say you are, walk in there, I’m with you.
In your own words — what's this saying to you?
THE REAL You walk into rooms every day. The yard. The cafeteria. The job. The visitation room. The classroom. The dinner table.
In each of those rooms, the people there have a name for you. Inmate. Coworker. Mom. Dad. Ex. Failure. Drama. The quiet one. The funny one. They see whatever they see. You absorb whatever they’re projecting.
Walking into the room as the person God says you are means refusing to absorb the projection. It means knowing who you are before you walk through the door. It means staying that person inside, even if everyone in the room thinks you’re somebody else.
This is hard. The pressure to conform to the room’s expectations of you is enormous. The path of least resistance is to be the person they think you are.
But you don’t have to.
You can walk in as the person God says you are — beloved, made on purpose, wired for something, called for something, in Christ — and let the room adjust to you instead of the other way around.
Sometimes the room won’t adjust. That’s OK. You’re still that person. You don’t lose who you are because the room didn’t see it.
This skill takes practice. You won’t get it right today. You won’t get it right tomorrow. But the more you practice walking into rooms as who God says you are, the more natural it gets, and the less the rooms can do to you.
PULL UP What’s a room you walk into where you forget who God says you are? Why does that room hit so hard?
Write it out — don't just think it:
THE MOVE Today, before you walk into a hard room, pause. Say to yourself: “I’m walking in as who God says I am. I’m not absorbing the projection.”
Did it today? ☐ Yes ☐ Not yet — what happened when you did?
TRACK IT Did it work?
