Day 56: Identity is not a feeling. It’s a fact you stand on. | The Walk Out
A lot of us were sold a feelings-based version of identity. Be who you feel you are. Trust your truth. It sounds nice. It also leaves you exhausted, because feelings change every six hours.
TODAY’S TRUTH Identity is something you stand on, not something you feel. The fact doesn’t change when the feeling does.
THE READ “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.” — Hebrews 13:8
If your identity is in Him, your identity is the same yesterday and today and forever too. Even when you don’t feel like it.
In your own words — what's this saying to you?
THE REAL Some days you wake up and you feel like a beloved child of God. Some days you wake up and you feel like a fraud. The feelings are real. They’re not the truth.
The truth is what God says about you. He says it on your good days and on your bad days. He says it when you feel it and when you don’t. He doesn’t change what He says about you based on whether you feel like His kid that day.
This is a huge relief once you actually internalize it.
You don’t have to manufacture the feeling to be the thing. You’re the thing whether you feel it or not. On the days you feel close to God, He’s there. On the days you feel a million miles away, He’s there. On the days you feel like His beloved, you’re His beloved. On the days you feel like a screwup, you’re still His beloved — you just feel like a screwup.
The feeling will catch up sometimes. Sometimes it won’t. Either way, the fact stands.
This is why faith is a verb (we covered that in Vol 1). You don’t wait to feel it before you act on it. You stand on the fact and act accordingly. The feeling shows up when it shows up. The standing on the fact is the work.
Today, when the feeling betrays the fact, stand on the fact anyway.
PULL UP When was the last time you felt like a fraud, like God didn’t actually love you, like you didn’t really belong? Did the fact change in that moment, or just the feeling?
Write it out — don't just think it:
THE MOVE Today, when the feeling betrays the fact, say out loud: “What’s true is what’s true. The feeling will pass.”
Did it today? ☐ Yes ☐ Not yet — what happened when you did?
TRACK IT Did the fact hold?
