Day 55: What it means to be “in Christ” without the church code. | The Walk Out

“In Christ” is one of the most repeated phrases in the New Testament. It’s also one we tune out the fastest. It sounds like church code. It’s not.

TODAY’S TRUTH “In Christ” is a real status change, not a religious slogan. It means your identity is now wrapped up in His.

THE READ “I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.” — Galatians 2:20

That’s Paul. He’s saying something specific. The old me is dead. Christ is now living in me. The “me” that’s living now is wrapped up in Him.

THE REAL “In Christ” is the New Testament’s shorthand for what happens when you say yes to Jesus.

Before: you were on your own. Your name. Your record. Your work. Your earning. Your direction. Your stuff to figure out.

After: you’re “in Christ.” Which means God now sees you through Jesus. Your record is wrapped in His. Your standing is wrapped in His. Your worth is wrapped in His. Your future is wrapped in His.

This is not magic-thinking. It doesn’t mean you stop being you. You still have your personality, your wiring, your gifts, your story. But the source of your identity changes. You used to be drawing your worth from your own resume. Now you’re drawing it from being His.

That’s why people in the New Testament keep talking about a “new” identity. It’s not that they got a personality transplant. It’s that the basis of their identity moved. From their own performance to Christ’s. From their own resume to His. From what they could earn to what He gave.

Practical version: if you’re “in Christ,” you don’t have to earn God’s approval anymore — Christ already earned it for you. You don’t have to be afraid of failure — your standing isn’t dependent on your performance. You don’t have to perform — the audition’s over, you’re in. You’re free to actually become who you were made to be, because there’s no longer anything to prove.

That’s not church code. That’s the deal.
