Day 48: Your name. (What it means. What it could mean.) | The Walk Out

Your name was given to you by somebody. Maybe with intention. Maybe at random. Maybe with love. Maybe with bitterness. You’ve been answering to it your whole life.

Names are not nothing.

TODAY’S TRUTH Your name is a gift. Even if you didn’t like the giver. You can stand in it differently.

THE READ “To the one who is victorious, I will give some of the hidden manna. I will also give that person a white stone with a new name written on it, known only to the one who receives it.” — Revelation 2:17

There’s a name God has for you that nobody else knows. Just you and Him.

THE REAL Your name probably means something. Most do, especially if you Google it. Most names have a meaning in their original language — courage, light, beloved, valley, gift, beauty, follower, righteous one, something.

Some of you got your name from a parent who loved you. Some of you got it from a parent who was checked out and just picked something. Some of you got it from a grandparent. Some of you got named after a pop star. Some of you got named after Bible characters and don’t know it.

Either way, that’s the name you’ve been carrying.

Two things to consider today.

First, the meaning of your name might be a clue about what God’s been trying to say about you. Look it up. See if anything resonates. Sometimes the meaning fits in ways the parent who gave it didn’t even know.

Second, the name you’ve been answering to might not be the one you’re going to be answering to forever. The Bible promises a new name to the people who follow Jesus all the way. A name that just God knows. A name that fits who you actually became, not who you used to be. That name is being prepared.

You can stand in your current name differently starting today. You don’t have to inherit your parents’ meaning of it. You don’t have to keep believing it’s a curse. It might be a clue. It might be a placeholder. Either way, you’re more than the syllables somebody picked.
