Day 38: Made in God’s image — what that actually means. | The Walk Out

You’ve heard “made in God’s image” before. Probably in a Sunday school class with a flannelgraph. Probably it didn’t mean much.

It means more than you’ve been told.

TODAY’S TRUTH You carry something of God in you. Even on your worst day.

THE READ “So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.” — Genesis 1:27

This is the third sentence of the Bible’s story about humans. Not the tenth. Not the fiftieth. The third. It’s the first thing the Bible says about who you are.

THE REAL Made in God’s image doesn’t mean God looks like a person. It means people are stamped with something of God.

What’s stamped on us: the ability to create. To love. To make moral choices. To know the difference between right and wrong. To self-reflect. To be in relationship. To make beauty. To grieve injustice. To recognize when something is broken and want to fix it.

These aren’t human inventions. These are the parts of God that He put into us when He made us. They’re the imprint.

Here’s what that means for you, today, on this page:

There is something of God in you. Right now. In whatever cell or chair or room you’re reading this in. Whatever you’ve done. Whatever was done to you. The image is still there. Tarnished maybe. Hidden maybe. Beat up maybe. But still there.

You can’t lose the image of God. You can ignore it. You can act against it. You can let people convince you it isn’t there. But you can’t actually lose it. It’s stamped in.

Anybody who told you you were worthless was telling you something the third sentence of the Bible disproves.

PULL UP What’s one thing about you — a quality, a way you treat people, a thing you care about — that you can now see as a piece of God in you?
