Christ Un-barred - EP 111 - Road Trip (San Diego & Phoenix AZ)
We hope you enjoy our ROAD TRIP. First, we drove to San Diego to ride the Silver Strand bike trail, which begins in Coronado and runs down the coast. Then we drove to Phoenix, Arizona, to finish my book and meet with brothers and sisters in Christ who watch our content on YouTube. House of Rest Church 500 9th Street B1, Modesto CA 95354
(upbeat music) (upbeat music) (upbeat music) - Hey guys, guess what? Oh, the road again. Oh man. - Oh man. - Oh man. - Oh man, hold on. We can't do it like that baby. - You can't do it like that? - No. - No. - Come on, you gotta do it right. - All right, let's do it. - Here it is. Ready? - Yeah, I'm ready. I already have it from the last time. (upbeat music) - Woohoo. - Roll it again. Just keep waiting in the whole road again. Why did my love is faking music with my friends? Why keep waiting in the whole road again? - All right, there we go. - Roll it again. All right, now it's official. - Yes, now it is official. - This is video number one.
We are on the grapevine heading into Southern California. Once again, it feels like we were just here. - I know, we were. - Yeah, and got a whole busy week. So tomorrow is our daughter-in-law? - Yes. - Baby shower. - My son and my daughter-in-law's baby shower. - First baby. - Yeah, so only females, so I got something to do with Louise, Sharon's brother, the one who did 20. And unfortunately, I think a storm is gonna ruin our plans. We were going to do a 43-mile bike ride. Half in Oceanside, half in sunny San Diego, but in the enemy sunny, they say. And then we were gonna end it with barbecue, with brother Fernando. But it looks like it might not happen. I got my bike on the rack. But either way-- - Look, they get to look at the marshal-looking part. - The marshal-looking part. - No, the Tesla. - Yeah. - So whether it rains or not, I told Fernando we're still-- I'm still-- I still got nothing to do because it's a women's-only baby shower. So whether we ride tomorrow or not, we're gonna head down to Oceanside in San Diego. And maybe I'll take the ferry anyways, just so they can see. - Yeah, why not?
- And have the barbecue guys. And then Monday heading out to Arizona. That's gonna be cool because I'm gonna finish writing my book. Sharon's gonna start writing hers. The book I'm writing is "The Aid Light Lessons I Learned in Solitary Confinement." And then, so we're pretty much gonna lock ourselves into this spot, and write. And then on the last day, we're actually gonna do a meet and greet with people that watch us on YouTube and Facebook. And I set a special invite to them. So far, I'm getting good response. And the added bonus is Phoenix now has a buckies. Perfect timing because I ran out of my seasoning for my steaks. My buckies seasoning. So I'm really excited about that. So, yeah, you're gonna see what do you think? You're gonna see San Fernando Valley. You're gonna see Oceanside. You're gonna see San Diego. You're gonna see buckies in Phoenix. It's gonna be good. You wanna add anything? - You said San Diego? - Yeah. - Oh, okay. - Yeah. So there's a special bike ride, guys. So those of you that don't now send me a go like a military base. That's where the Navy seals train and there's a bike ride that goes along the
coast called the Silver Strand. I haven't done it in years. I forgot when the last time was we did it. When I was staying to the hospital, doesn't it? I don't know if it was that. No, that was Ocean Avenue. Didn't Leana do this? Yes, she did. That was years then. And I was so looking forward to this. And now the weather. We're going to pray that that weather clearly. Yeah, I'm hoping. I mean, if it's like this. If it's drizzling, I'll do it. But not if it's straight up storming. I mean, that's dangerous. I like my bones intact. Yes, I like you intact too. Yeah, so either way, guys, it's going to be a great road trip. Hopefully you enjoyed the last one on Pacific Coast Highway. That was a really, really good road trip all the way from downtown L.A. and all the way to San Francisco. And we brought the letters to read guys. We're hoping to catch up to all the letters. Yes, all the letters. So we're going to try to dedicate time every day to continue our reading. What we're out here so we can have one good size video and try to catch up to everything. Yeah, it'll probably be a two-hour video. Yes, that's okay though. Yeah. Well, this is video number one. If we eat something that looks exciting, I'll show you. We see something that looks exciting. I'll show you. That's it. So God bless it. Oh, I'll finally get to introduce Luis. He's busy to be with me that whole day. Yeah, and if there's anything on my end, I'll record something on my end to share about the baby shower chance. So, all right, so we're now going down the grapevine. What is this? Casté? How do you say it? This is Casté? Casté Lake area. Yes. Yeah, so we're heading down guys. We are now officially in Southern California. This mountain range is with splits. Northern California to Southern. And see you later. God bless. All right, here we are. Just a little chain. Getting ready. Talking to the camera. Talking to the camera? Yeah. Look at this, San Diego. About to take the ferry to Coronado and the bike right all the way down. Down downtown San Diego. Beautiful. All right. All right. Hey. All right. All right. All right. All right. It's a little town over there, close to Eloy, close to Florence, south of Phoenix. I'm munching on these pistachios. Don't know why they're so expensive, but they're really good. The border on the left coming into California is packed. This is the state line, this bridge, this river. Arizona, right, boom, right here. We are now in Arizona. Welcome to Arizona. Yeah, I've been waiting guys. I put enough gas just to get here because it drops by $1.50 the gallon.
Just because it's Arizona, well because it's out of California. Look at that, flying J449 gas. Wow. In LA it was $6.650 the gallon of gas. This one's going to be packed, are you going to do it here? No, there's nothing else after that. So I specifically guys put enough gas just to get here. I'm at 41 miles of empty right now. And now I can fill it to the top. At $4.49, that's beautiful. Welcome to AZ. Look at that traffic over there. Oh, heading back into California. Wow. Wonder why? I don't know if you guys know, but I'm flying J is our favorite truck stop. There's loves flying J pilot, which pilot is owned by flying J. Why is it her favorite? It's just, I don't know. I washed my cup and put a little bit of ice on it. Oh, oh yeah, they got the icy look. Hey, look, everybody's putting gas here. Yeah, you know what it is? People going back to Cali, they're filling up. Instead of having a pay $6.50 gallon, the weight is worth it. Are they doing what we're doing? Yeah. Yeah, I'm just going to wait because real alternative is paying a lot. All right, guys. All right, guys, we just left flying G. So I filled it up. It was packed $128 to fill up. What is this on there? Wow. 128 to fill it up, which of course still sounds like a lot, right? But back in California, it would have cost 165.
So that's a 20, 38, 48, 58. That's a $34 difference. That is huge. $34 difference. I don't know why that line, see that line of traffic? That's going back into California. Not sure what's going on. I don't know if it's construction or something else. It's like construction. Is that border? Yeah, and border it's coming in. No, they're expecting cars or something. Oh, no. Coming in. So the next stop is somewhere very special to me, to us, to the world. Bucky's. What are we doing right now? It's on the outskirts coming in. I thought we were doing that on the way back. Yeah, we are. So since you're poor DaVin tree, commercial vehicles, so look at that traffic. I hope it's not like that when we come. But this we'll see how it looks right above this little hill. Is this the Phoenix side? What do you mean the Phoenix side? What side of Arizona is this? We're in Arizona now. I know. What side of entry? What porto entry is this? Life. Highway 10. Oh yeah. The traffic keeps going. Wow.
That's too cool. That's where the seats are. Yeah. Have I told them why we're going over here? No. Should I tell them? Okay. Okay. Well, it's okay guys. Oh, there's really quick, there's inspections being done at the checkpoint. Oh wow. They're being screened incoming traffic for restricted produce plants and firewood and invasive pests. So it's bottom necky to the high volume. It's a high volume traffic route. So that's why there's a lot of inspections taking place. Did you say? Firewood? Yeah. Why firewood? Is it because termites may be for what? Could be. Huh. Because of an invasive pest. Oh, it probably is because of that. Wow. I've never, every time we go through, we just drive right through, it never stops. Yeah. What a trip. Anyways, there's a book that I'm going to finish up and we have an opportunity to stay
here because actually we were looking for a place to stay up in the mountains more toward where we live. Because when I'm at home, there's other stuff to do and when we're at church, there's always something to do and I've been telling Sharon, "Really need to get away so I can concentrate on finishing this book." And then this opportunity came up. So we took it and it's going to give us a few days away and the book is called Eight Life Lessons. I learned in solitary confinement so it's going to be 10 chapters, the introduction, the summary at the end, but eight lessons and I'm really, really excited about it. I can't wait to share it with you guys. I know Sharon is laying down her foundation for her book so while I'm riding mine, she's going to be working on her, kind of the timeline and all that. When there's a heavy, like there's a state trooper right there, I saw a state trooper flying Jay. A lot of assets. A lot of heavy law enforcement presence. Oh, she beat him at 75, I'm over here going 70. We don't have 75 in California. So that's what we're here for. And then on the last day that we're leaving Arizona, we're kind of putting together a meet and greet. Because we have a lot of people that watch us on Facebook and YouTube and we're going to meet at a restaurant and so hopefully you get to meet some of them, we'll be able to film that just kind of as a, you know, we don't want to come into Phoenix area, let me, nobody. Actually, I think some of you might even have some family members. they'll be able to see them all and you'll get to see if you wanna yeah yeah it's gonna be really nice yeah look at this landscape that's beautiful those of you that never been Arizona did you think it's just desert well this is a
lot of desert but look at the landscape really beautiful yeah it's always you know when we see things like this we always thank the Lord because he's a creator he created all things and you've seen our road trip so you know we say it every time we're driving through Lake Tahoe Reno Montana we're like look at what God did I also wanted to I'm not sure but I'm hoping David will include it with this video though but I wanted to congratulate him because we just he just did a video on on actually opening up his first his first edition of his workbook he actually finished his workbook for the identity book that he has which is you who you are who are you who are you who are you identity or are you identity in Christ and he completed the workbook and it is now been published and it's available on Amazon and we finally got a physical copy and I recorded him getting his first copy and I would love for him to include it on here because he we actually did I you know we got home from the funeral that we did at our church for Johnny and Diana for his mom I'm sure that you guys have seen on the Sunday service that Johnny's mom passed away unexpectedly and we were able to honor her with a beautiful celebration of life on Thursday which was just on the 9th of the night of October and it was such a beautiful service such a beautiful woman it was definitely you know definitely beautiful beautiful service so on that day when we got home David had a package waiting and it was his workbook so we'd love to share that with you guys and very proud of him guys this was something that had been on your heart for some time right yeah I finished a notebook workbook I'm sorry workbook that goes with the identity and Christ book I wrote and they work together and then I'm finishing this book this week the eight life lessons I learned in solitary confinement and then as soon as I'm done with that I'm finishing up a novel that I wrote well actually a movie I did well they're always with you guys you guys seen it always with you I'm making it into a book into like a novel book and I started that a long time ago never finished it so I'm tying up all these loose hands of publishing things that's why just you know got the notebook out the way of getting this one done and then that one next I know Cher is gonna be
working on hers yes so excited for her with that you know we really want to publish books and I did my testimony lost in the storm I did the identity Christ we've had a several from the church where they dump their testimonies and we help them publish also I think in order for us to be able to help others we need to be able to complete the things that we began in order for us to go forward with anything else or anybody else you know and we need to finish what we started in order for us to be able to do that so these are these are the sense I guess you would say the things that we that we got started we need to finish those get that off our plates that way we can continue being a blessing and that way we can continue doing other things as well so we're just trying to finish what we started guys and I think that this is we need to be able to do it with no distractions and be able to find a little bit of time that we can so we can be able to get it done. I think it's the first Arizona town, at least on i-10. So, I'll turn it back on when we're closer to Phoenix, and of course you'll see buggies, because on the way out, Sharon's right, she was planning on the way out, but on the way out's gonna be midnight, and I don't think she's gonna want to stop at midnight when we leave Arizona, 'cause on the way out, you've got to get your nephews, so, and it's on the entry into Phoenix, or it's our only chance right now. So, most likely, the next clip will be getting close to buggies, alright guys. We're here, buggies in Goodyear, Arizona. And that's what it's called here for years. It's a town of Goodyear. Oh, oh. Yeah, we're on the outskirts of Phoenix, and man, it feels weird to be a buggies. Like, I'm feeling like I'm at my in Texas, or mine, so, I'll turn it on right now guys, where we're inside. That's another? I don't know. On the road again.
Just try me, the same one. Look at those moves. Can you dance like that? This is a nice one. Look at these little shirts. Okay guys. Look at this. This is, see, we've learned a lot of times we get snacks, and the ten minutes later from buggies, it's gone. This is the thing that keeps on going, so we got steak seasoning for... Two dollars and ninety-eight cents, that's cheap. We've never had this flavor, but I bet it's good. And they're all two dollars and ninety-eight cents. Yeah, and brisket. Two ninety-nine. This will last me. Two ninety-eight. Two ninety-eight? Yeah. This will last me until we go to buggies in Houston in April. So three flavors, plus of course we got our three meat sandwiches. You know how expensive seasonings are in the store? They're expensive. Yeah, like eight dollars. Like seven dollars, six dollars, and this is two dollars and ninety-eight cents, that's right. And this stuff's good. Yeah. Alright. So on we go, I give a disclaimer, if you're hungry, don't see this next few minute or so.
This is a triple meat, buggies sandwich. They looked at it. Yep. Alright guys. This thing's about to disappear. [Music] (upbeat music) (upbeat music) (upbeat music) (upbeat music) (upbeat music) (upbeat music) (upbeat music) (upbeat music) (upbeat music) (upbeat music) (upbeat music) (upbeat music) (upbeat music) (upbeat music) (upbeat music) (upbeat music) Well here we are guys from Arizona. This is a few days later. I have literally have been writing my book for three days straight. We didn't leave our room. And I'll show you a picture. I'm taking a picture of me when I was typing. And we checked out today. We're headed downtown to show you guys around.
Right now we're in North Phoenix, which is really Peoria, I think. That's how you say it. Peoria, which is, I guess, connected to Phoenix. I feel a bit. I'm good. You're good? Mm-hmm. All right. Did you get rest? Yeah. It was very quiet. I know. I got a lot of the book done. Didn't quite finish it, but man, probably 80% of it. Done. And I can't anticipate why I'm not going to finish it over the next week. And go through the editing process, the formatting process. Formatting means to get it sized to fit the book, the actual book size. Because right now I'm typing it on Google Docs, which is like Microsoft Word. And then get it published, you know. So really excited about it. I've been on a rollman, knocked out that workbook. Now I'm knocking this one out. And I'm actually going to make a book that I've always with you, but I'll probably take a couple weeks break because I've got to do some other things for the church. And then make that always with you into a book novel, which will add more, I guess, more character build because, you know, in the 90-minute movie, you can only put so much. fiction of books since "Missed of My Confusion." That's a book I wrote before Christ. And we're looking forward to doing that. I know Sharon is, I started working on hers.
And how's that going? Sharon is hard. Yeah. It's harder than you thought. Harder. Not the, not the writing part of the emotional. Yeah, revisiting the revisiting of things. The extracting of stuff. It's a lot harder than than what I thought. You know, the extraction, the memory, a lot of things. I didn't realize that for so long. I didn't realize that it was me being intentional with not wanting to remember things. I thought that I had forgotten things that I guess I realized that I was more intentional with not wanting to remember things. Because when I really wanted to dig deep, to remember, I actually remembered some things that I had to sit there and really dig deep to remember them. And I had to be intentional to remember them. I just didn't want to. So it makes sense to you because there was a one point where I would take breaks guy, Sharon. It was a, well, I'll show you the video, the place we got. You can see there was a kitchen there. And actually by this time, you probably already shown that video because I edited in. But that way we could just stay in and eat. It's a lot cheaper and it's more convenient. And that way I could just keep writing. But those times where I would take breaks and I'll share with her some of the things I was writing. I think yesterday I'm like, man, I'll just cry. So it makes sense to you. Yeah. And I know you thought that you didn't even hear me. I didn't even have the TV on. I didn't have anything on. And there were moments where you probably thought that, what is she doing? And it wasn't that I wasn't just doing anything. I was just really in deep thought for a long time. Like I was like, I don't even want to get up. I didn't want to move. I didn't want to do anything. Like I was just like, I was kind of like almost like scared to go do anything. Like I didn't want to do it for a minute. I was being almost like rebellious to want to go do it. I was like, I don't know. Like I was like, Lord, like give me the strength to want to go do this. And I was like, I can't. I can't do it. I can't get myself to do it. But I knew that I had to do it. But this is her first time writing a book. It's not easy guys. It's not easy. And there's stages. There's stages that I've learned a system before when I wrote my first one. I would just write. Not knowing where else going, where else went with the story. I was just making it up as I went. I was missing my confusion. But there's actually a system to writing a book, you know, and that
makes it a lot easier. And then I finally decided to, to voice it. And I started to record myself. And I started to tell my story, like record, we record myself in. And there were long pauses. And there were moments where I got emotional and, you know, I don't know. It was, it was tough guys. She has this voice recorder we both do that basically records and dictates everything you say. And then if you ask it to after, it summarizes what you said for you, you know, and it just makes things like, it puts memories down. I'm really proud of her though, because she's been talking about writing a book for years, for years. I had the title for a very, very long time. Maybe the last 20 years, I've had a title in my heart before we met. I've had that title. I've had it for a very, very long time. So I'm really proud of her. And then, you know, even, I don't know how many years now, because ever since you've known me, I've been wanting to author books. And yeah, I did loss in the storm. I did And this is the first time we actually did it. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I think it was just a lot of quiet time there when there's quiet time, you're able to be in your thoughts, you're able to be in the moment, you know, you're able to just quiet yourself and it's, and, and I'm sure you guys know that, you know, because you guys are in, you guys, I'm not going to say that you're in that quiet because it's probably not quiet there. But I'm sure you're in a, in a very secluded, secluded, you're your ice. Yes, you're isolated and there's those moments when you're isolated away from the world. Away from everything, away from the people that you love, away from everything, it gives you a moment to think, reflect and reflect and reflect and to think about things. And sometimes we need that. It's important because when you take away all the noise, when you take away all the distractions, when you take away everything, it makes you think about those things that are important and makes you think about like, man, I don't have all of those distractions anymore. Like, you are the focus, you, you and God and nothing else. And I think, I needed that, I really, really needed that, I think that was important. Yeah, I think that in the same way, so originally, we came this way so I could finish my book.
And then, I don't know what prompted Sharon in one day, she's like, you know what? I don't want to start mine. So I'm not sure what, maybe she could answer that now, but I think I would like to return the favor because there's a sister we met, she was actually, she would watch us on Panda from Colorado. Remember? Yeah. And we met her at the real V, the, I don't know what you call it, was that like a memorial for Mama Eve? Yeah, yeah. Yeah. A celebration sort of, because she didn't want, she didn't want a funeral. It sounded like a celebration, yes. Yeah, that's where, and we met this sister. Yeah. And she owns a... I don't like a bed of breakfast. A bed of breakfast cabins out in Colorado. And she has always offered for us to go there for a few days. She goes, just get here, and I just want to be, you guys are such a blessing to me on Panda. I want to return the favor. And I think that we're probably going to take her up on that offer later, you know, and get closer to writing her book, because right now she's working on the outline, you know. I wish she can have that time in the same way, I had the time to do this one for me, you know. But you know, you know, not even just that, though, not even realizing that a few months ago I had worked on my own little workbook for the department's disciples. Yeah, no, and you didn't tell me.
And I, you know, because I didn't think, I guess what really encouraged me was, you know, finishing your workbook. No. And I think I felt a little embarrassed to show you a look at what I did, you know, and when I see you accomplish that, it made me really proud of what I did. And I was like, let me show you what I did, and it made me want to finish it there. And me completing it there, I was able to show you, like, look what I did, you know. And it made me really happy to see how proud you were of me. Yeah. Yeah. And for you to tell me, you know what, that's really good. It is good. You know, to show you and for you to say that that was great work, that I was really happy about what I did. Do you ever tell me what it is or not? Yeah. And it's a women's discipleship workbook, and it's actually 15 women, 15 women of the Bible that really never gets spoken about. And it's a lot of different women of the Bible, and what it does, it gives a quick little recap of about the different women of the Bible. They're all unison, every single page is unison, and it gives a quick little title of so that the women can answer a few questions, maybe like four questions, and at the bottom, it gives a good little prayer, and it also gives a journal input, and on the next page, it's gonna have an area where they can actually journal every single time that they talk about that, and they can actually journal as well, and so I loved it because I want to give the women something to do, what we can do for the women's discipleship, and make it into a workbook, and I've decided, you know, I was thinking, should I just make this a house arrest, you know, discipleship, but then after when looking at it really good, this can be just a women's discipleship workbook for any women, you know, any women's discipleship, not just house arrest, so I'm thinking about making it into a complete women's discipleship book.
Getting it published in Amazon? Yeah, and getting it published, so I'm really excited, I love the outline and the way that I did it, so I'm kind of really excited about it, I pretty much completed it while we were here, I was able to get a lot of things done, guys, while I was here as well, I just sat there in silence, I made sure that my husband was fed, right, they went to carry you, I was making sure that he was being fed, I was making sure, the only thing that we bought was some meat, eggs, sandwich stuff and fruit and coffee, and I was just making sure that I was taking care of him and making sure that he was eating and working, and that was it, and I just did quiet the rest of the time, and I was staying busy as well, so yeah, a lot of things were done while we were here, so it was an amazing moment working, and at the times that we were taking our breaks, it was a lot of communication, a lot of talking about vision, casting vision, ministry, reading, we were reading letters, and just working guys and working, I didn't even really get a chance to watch TV or anything, I think we watched TV once, yeah, we watched TV, a cooking show one time, and that was about it, but yeah, it was a good moment, guys, it really was. Well, guys, why is there a roller coaster, half-made roller coaster that is weird? Maybe this is where they made them. Anyways, we'll be back when I get to downtown, so you can see the city, to see you later. All right, guys, so we arrived, I believe downtown, if you're from here, I apologize, I'm not from here, so I don't know, but I'll tell you something that's strange, I always noticed this, but I remember just now, is that when you're driving into Phoenix downtown, there's like two downtowns, so if you're from Phoenix, please explain it to me, because it seems to be a cluster of high rises, and then the space in between, and then a whole other cluster, like it seems like there's two downtowns, I don't know, but either way, I just got off the exit, and let's see what we see. For those of you that are from this area, let's see, what street are we on? We are on 7th Avenue, north 7th Avenue. I saw a bunch of high rises, now they disappeared, I don't know where they went, oh they're, I think they're to the right. All right, guys, we're just exploring, so I can't sit here and tell you I'm showing you around, because I'm just driving, I don't even know where we're going, I don't know where I'm going, I thought I saw high rises on the exit, this is weird, maybe it's an illusion, maybe it's a mirage. At that light, I'm going to turn right, though I think you see high rises to the right, and see where it leads us.
I just don't remember the street. Maybe it'll come to, oh wait, I do see some buildings up there. Maybe it's first street. Does that ring a bell to you, guys? No street that goes through downtown. Why does that ring a bell? I don't know. Let me ride back. Okay, guys, I found it. It wasn't first street. It was central, duh. Central goes through central Phoenix. So I just turned on Indian School Road to going south on central. And this goes through the heart of downtown Phoenix. I have not driven here since maybe late '99, '98. I don't know. It's been a long time. It's been over 25 years since I've been on the street. One of our main distributors of our music, our record company, was based out of Phoenix. Oh really? Yeah, an associated Leonard Singer. He was a major distributor for Sam Goody, music land, Hastings. He had a huge store downtown called Circles. So we would visit often. And yeah, it's been a long time. I think second after Northern California, Arizona was our biggest people, our biggest consumers that bought our music. Was Arizona after Northern California. It's a really nice downtown. I'll tell you that. The first thing I noticed, guys, being from Cali, is their downtown is spread out. Not all congested, huh? Yeah, because LA, San Francisco, San Jose, it's congested. Like it's skyscraper, it's nice. Look at this. Notice the look how open it is. Which makes it different because when you have, like, San Francisco, everything's clusters, you have more people walking around. Because they're walking to coffee shops and delis and, you know, wherever they work. And I imagine here, because of the heat, probably not so many people
hooking around. But it is a nice looking downtown, I'll tell you that. Everything looks new. Not a lot of signage everywhere. No. Like LA? Mm-hmm. I wonder if they do their privacy though. They probably have more regulation. To make it look clean, the regulation. Yeah, it looks very clean. Guys, I don't know where the hood is at, but what I see now is a really nice clean city. I know you guys got your your spots, man, because I've seen cops when they're in Phoenix, but what I'm seeing now is really nice. Shout out to all the Arizona people. Hey, look at your dad's clean car. It's all nice. I've been making mine for a cruise, isn't it? You know that was gifted to my dad? Somebody at the church the other day, we're talking about the road trips. Yeah. And they're like, you like driving, huh? I think it was Tino. He's he like driving. I told him we're going up how we want. Yeah. I was like, you know what? Honestly, I do. I know you do. I said, I do. I said, as long as I'm rested, I said, when I'm tired, then I don't like it, because I don't like risking my life or whoever's life is in the car. and number before we would you would be i think i prefer those type of dates like you know would be like let's just go for a drive yeah just get on the car and just drive wherever we can go you know it is and i like those drive i like those dates i like to see different things i enjoy it i and i don't even want to say it's because i was locked up i think i i've just always liked it i remember being a kid my brother likes that he just likes to just drive and just go i'll be like we're four hours away he's like it's okay i'll be right there i'm like okay i think that is because of incarceration yeah but did he like driving traveling before them i think he did but i think he likes it even more so now yeah like he's okay with it he likes to see difference he likes nature yeah i do know that but i remember being a kid and like let's say we would my dad wants and
i'll take us to the services good museum you know the museum we go to the maryam and i would be fascinated just looking out the window at the city at oakland at you know driving to great america in san jose i don't know it just and then i would look my dad had better back then you had maps because he didn't have gps yeah my dad had a drawer of maps i think everybody did back then because like texas or something yeah i used to have this book yeah like the atlas yeah they were called something though um the thomas skates was it a round mcnally's or something like thomas skate big old thomas skate and then you open it up yeah so i would actually go in my dad's map drawer and i'll pick a map any map of different cities it'd be sacramino he would have never since go he by los angeles phoenix uh sanaton and i would just stare at the map is that crazy yeah and i would just look at i don't know what it was just and i think that that carries over to now you know is i still like it that's a trip we're still downtown see how far and wide it is yeah they're not crazy like sometimes i get excited and it's like i don't even know what to call on my dad or yeah or i just don't even know what to call him anymore monster okay my dad you know i don't even know how to address him was there moments of i don't know it's kind of weird i don't know how to how to phrase my question i think before before i was nine years old yeah before nine years old there were moments where he was a father a dad a dad yeah that's what i yeah that's what i was gonna ask because i was that i was a happy little girl before nine years old after nine years old he stole he stole for me he took that little girl away from me you know Ben Buren i've heard of that rule before but i think you because when you talk about your childhood good times it's always involves your brother and your sister your sisters or mostly i hear you talk a lot about your brother you looked up to him well because my brother became my he became my safe place my brother became my like my hero like my brother was everything to me didn't he have like a paper route yeah my brother at 12 years old he he ended up taking a paper route he became on his bike he became a paper boy at 12 13 years old he became a paper boy and and he would he would get paid his little money and and i remember it was probably 40 bucks yeah he would get but you know there was a store it would it would be called Susie's deals it was a five dollar store and back then everybody wanted to dress like Cindy Lauper Madonna okay the real fluorescent stuff and remember those bracelets of black bracelets a plastic bracelets and everything and i wanted to be like my sister
and like my older sister and everything and i wanted to dress really cool too and i wanted to work cute things and and everything so my brother had finished his paper route one time and he had gotten paid i think he had gotten paid maybe like like like he said 40 bucks So for us, we were like so my brother had gotten paid and he's like okay. Come on. I'm gonna take you guys to He had gotten paid his little bit of money and I was you know My sister was one year older than him and I was younger and I was maybe like 10 and and we were all excited Cuz he got paid and he's like come on. I'm gonna take you guys shopping. I'm gonna take you the Susie deals And we were like my god. That's a big deal Susie's deals to five dollar the five dollars store Wow, we get to spend five dollars, you know, and he's like come on I'm gonna take you each you guys can buy one thing at Susie's deals and we're like Everybody all the girls would go to Susie's deals like it was a huge back then, you know to go to No, it was almost like going to forever 21 All the accessories all the accessories and everything so we would walk all the way to where You know Miller's Outposts Mervants and all without I think we finished it was like a whole like little mall place where Susie's deals was and Remember why I showed you where Chuckie cheese was at yeah on the Royal Canyon. Oh yeah, we would walk from Rialto in Telfer all the way over there and so we would go through the alley area and we'd take a shortcut and we'd go and He's he would spend his little money He would spend ten fifteen dollars on us right there. We're in a hood. Yeah It's graffiti everywhere. So I thought that was really cool. Yeah, so my brother would do that for us So I remember seeing my older brother Ruben like Like a hero Like I don't know. I can't even put in words how I saw him. I don't even think he realized how I saw him Is that that's kind of how I hear you describe Luis? Yeah, but there's no more because you know remember how I told you we would take those shortcuts down that alley So for some reason Me I would become a target to weirdos Remember I told you I became a target to weird men in in those alleys There would be men that would follow me in those alleys
Where you're walking home when I would walk home from school and everything and I almost got kidnapped and My brother my brother would walk either ahead or would walk that he would always be around to me and I would always be a target for weird men either trying to Expose themselves to me or one time one man opened up his door to his car And he tried to lure me to his car and my brother would see that in my brother Was always the one the protector who would rush to these men and try to beat them up and try to you know So he's always been like the protector He would always be he'd run to go get a bat to try to beat these men He was always like that So I saw him I grew up seeing him as my protector like my hero So how do you see him now fast forward now 20 years or 25? How do you see him that the moment he sees me? He comes straight to me and he gives me a kiss on the forehead He he addresses me always with a kiss on the forehead Yes, every time you don't know this every time he comes and he grabs me. This is me on the forehead So you're still his baby sister. I'm always his baby sister He'll grab me and he'll kiss me on the forehead every single time and that to me is such a Gonna make me cry already I remember because he's always been like that with me I Don't think ever anybody's ever done that to me except for him and now seeing him free. How does that make you feel? It feels good like when he'll send you pictures of him in front of a waterfall or just I feel so good seeing him free Like I don't want to see him any other way free like he admitted he was iffy about me At first because he's locked up and here's his little sister is going off away from San Fernando Mary some dude. I Think he feels so comfortable with you now. Yeah, yeah have done nothing but hurt me, but he also knows that that's a residual from, it's a residual from what I have been through and all the decisions that I have made have been because of our father, because of what he put me through, I made so many wrong choices in my life and he has told me I wish I could have saved you and he has come to me and he has told me I am so sorry sister that I couldn't save you this one night, yeah I had to turn
right because each block I'm getting worse I don't know if you noticed I start seeing funeral homes and bail bonds and I get along with him very well, I think he knows because this is one thing you guys, you guys know man, when you're locked up you get like x-ray vision on people's personality, you know exactly what somebody is about within a minute because you have to, you have to hone in and reap people because that's life or death, I think you guys can read through us, you know, just as well as we can see through a lot of your letters, you know, I think it goes by subversive, you know, and I think that's why it's so important, it is so important that, you know, we have to just be ourselves and not be anything other than ourselves, you know, we have to be transparent with one another, we're not trying to be something other than ourselves, it's exhausting to be something you're not, that's why I'm just like, I'm not gonna edit this stuff, a lot of times I know and I'm not faulting other podcasts, they can do what they can do, they can do however they want to do, it's too much work for me, I'm not gonna pretend or act or be like, oh let me say that again, you know, hit stop and record again, like man we're just gonna let it roll, yeah, time for that guys, yeah, and that's, I don't know, some people maybe don't like that because it's not polished, but we're just gonna do what we do and be who we are and hopefully you like it, you know? It is what it is, you know, we, we love, sometimes we love a little too hard and too good for our own good and sometimes for some people we don't love enough, you know, for some people it's not enough and for some people it's too much, I don't know, but we are who we are and it's okay, we're not gonna be everybody's cup of tea, we've learned that, I think we've learned a lot along along the way in all these years, you know, I've learned a lot, I'll tell you that much, I've had to, yeah, I'm turning back toward downtown 'cause I'm sure, I don't know where this leads, oh man, those people from Arizona, they've got to see their hometown a little bit, I bet you this one or two, hey that's my block, that's my sister's house, that's my, I used to work there, oh I robbed that please, I'm joking, oh look, they're downtown, oh yeah that looks nice right there, that's a good view, that's my abuelo right there, we did have somebody, we did have somebody when we went to, where was it that we went to, it was Idaho, the potato thing, yes, that he actually, his nephew worked here, like man, you talked to my nephews, that was my nephew that was working there and
then actually we went down the corner and it's like, thought, those were my family members right there in that corner, that was crazy, like, I mean that was crazy, just the fact that you got to see your family members walking down the street and then we got to see your family members working in the potato museum, I thought that was awesome, but you got to see your family, that was amazing. (eerie music) saw me in numbers in Arizona. Lower Buckeye, and I thought that was a really bright fire, but I thought he wasn't going to stop. No, it scared me. Well, guys, I'm going to stop the video, I'll show you a little bit more throughout if I see some that's worthy of filming, but hopefully enjoy this little talk, and cuddles. I realize I haven't shown you guys a movie theater, so we're wasting, not wasting, we wouldn't let it come and do something until later, we're going to meet up with some brothers and sisters in Christ. So we thought we'd come watch a movie. So this is a theater somewhere in Tempe, Arizona. We're in Theater 16, so obviously I can't show you the movie, because that's against the law, but showing you guys what a movie theater looks like, a lot different than what we grew up with. Yeah, look at that Godzilla one. So this is what we're going to watch guys, it's called the whale fall, never even heard of it, so today it looks good though. I'm going to show them how it looks inside, and then I'll, so guys, if you remember the theaters you grew up with, very uncomfortable seats, they're all changed now, everything's recliner seats, look at that, all right guys, see you later. This is made out of Legos, where you look at that. This is $45,000 Lego bricks were used to build, this is $45,000 Lego bricks were used to build the small barrel. All right, we, it is now Friday, it's our last.
Night here in Arizona, it is, yeah, we're heading to a restaurant, we posted it on YouTube, and well not really on YouTube, but we reached out to all the people that watch us on YouTube and Facebook, whoever watches us, then out of the Arizona area, and then I messaged them and basically meeting them at a restaurant, after the restaurant we're leaving back to California, but yeah, so our thing is this, is we know that there's people that watch us, and we want to be able to meet them. So many people say, man, I feel like I know you, but here's a problem, they know us, but we don't know them, so we're meeting at this restaurant, and hopefully I'll get to introduce some of you to them, and just the fellowship, the time that get together, meet them, talk to them, break bread with them, before we head out, just as a way of just saying thank you, you know, because, man, there's so many other YouTube channels to watch, and it's humbling knowing that they're watching us, you know, and we also, we love meeting people, you know, we met some good people over time, different cities we go to. So I want to thank some of our family members, yeah, yeah, actually some of your family, brother Leonard, his wife, Brenda, Brenda, and her husband, yeah, thank you, yeah, we were able to eat pizza and fellowship with them last night, and then right now, just now, brother showed up and they're on their way to the restaurant brother and I know that's your sister and you know they it was just really nice to meet them and hearing about you brother just I just want you to be encouraged man the Lord's always in control no matter how this world looks no matter what anybody says the Bible says that God guides the hands of kings and directs them any which way he pleases you know and I find comfort in knowing that ultimately the Lord has a last word on everything so we're headed to this restaurant it's gonna be nice I'll get a little bit of footage of that and then we're headed back to headed back to Cali Cali remember that song hello cool J so I remember brother Leonard was telling me that he can tell when cards are from California guys because the paint jobs aren't all tore up apparently the Arizona Sun destroys the tops the hoods and the trunks of the cars here because of he basically ruins yeah yeah like ruins the the clear coat really yeah yeah cuz he he laughed as soon as he saw my my hood you'll know yeah to
California car you can tell cuz your paints intact yeah well yeah now I'm gonna be looking at all the well I'm looking sure enough all these cars their hoods are all chipped away like that car Abraham was looking at remember yeah I wonder though because I'm I'm wondering if you first of all you probably have to keep it in a garage to prevent it at least to slow it down but what if you don't have a garage and then you probably have to always keep it waxed you know because of wax because that protective coating on it I wonder if it's still if it's still if that helps it or does it stop it or it doesn't matter because this heat is vicious in the summer I was here on a summer and it was like a hundred and sixteen degrees and I don't know if you're from Arizona maybe that ain't nothing but man I was melting so anyways guys I'll see you at the restaurant I'll show you guys around of course I'm gonna show you what we ordered I don't know I heard the beans are really good that they give out with chips in the beginning but I heard it's good all right there they're chattel beans I know everybody's really into those chattels yeah I will say this that those of you from Arizona we really enjoyed your state it was a nice week out here and really enjoyed the what do they call it Arizonians yeah all right guys Douglas later okay we're pulling out to Arriba Mexican grill right there there's TJ Maxx Burlington home goods we told everyone at six thirty but we're here thirty minutes early because I'll be weird people showing up and we're not here yeah okay let's see and there it is right there all right see them in it look there was a parking right there hey guys I ordered a Mexican pizza because I thought it was small I Taco Bell look at my hand look up look how big this thing is this is huge Sharon says I have to eat it all what did you get I got crunchy tacos crunchy tacos all right Leonard say hi what'd you get my very nice chicken damn it I love you all all right some of them later, but I'm gonna dip into this right now. Look at that. They got us the anniversary cake. Why are you showing them a shank? Hahaha.
Say "Hi" to you know who? Chris should say something to the guys. Hmm? Say something to the guys. Chris, this is gonna go out to all the prisons. What do you want to say to them? Man, everybody just stay safe, keep your head up, come out, do good. Ain't nothing in there for you guys man. Got a family out here that loves you guys. I've been there, done that, done with it. I walked away and I'm living my life. The God. Man, thank you. Go ahead. Hi, my name is Diane Smith. I know where you are. I've been there. Clings for the Lord. Do what he says and know that what he used to tell me was Mark 536. Don't be afraid. Just believe. And he will free you. He won't even feel like you're in a bad place. He will give you freedom no matter where you are. And I put a blessing over all of you. Everybody that's incarcerated around the country. I love all of you and I pray for you every day. How do you know about us there? Oh, I used to watch them on adobo. Religiously used to wait with made in breath for all the episodes to be uploaded. And I'm just so grateful. They're great people and I'm so grateful to the Lord to be here today and be free. And how long was your experience? Five years in county jail. And the Lord kept telling me that I was going to be free and he just told me to tell the truth. I refused to sign anything and my third settlement conference. I refused again and everybody in the courtroom flipped out even the judge. And I said, "Well, I do what God tells me to do and he's telling me no." And she went crazy. My family was mad at me. I was like, "You don't understand, I'm close to the Lord. He's telling me what to do any year later. I walked out of there." Wow, I am mad. They faithful unto the Lord. You just have to believe what he tells you and obey. Hey man, so I just want to thank you for coming out and meeting us. I'm so glad to be here. It means so much to us.
Thank you. I met a lot of people that are here and every son of us. And I pray that you just stay connected and stay in touch with them, okay? Absolutely. Alright, thank you. God bless. Hey guys, so this is an amazing couple that we were able to fellowship with. I know they wanted to just say hi to you guys. Bless you from me all, Jesus loves you. Putting a God for Christ. He has a plan for you. And everyone else in there, keep your head up. His Christ loves you too. And he has a plan for you. He's molding you the way he wants to mold you. So you're ready when you come out. God bless each other, every one of you. And keep pushing in the name of Jesus Christ. Hey man, do you want to say something? Yes. Brothers love you. I just want to say it stays strong. God has a plan for you guys. Amen. And remember, you fought forward. Amen. And you're not going through this alone. You're going through this with Jesus and God. And he's right with you guys. And just stay strong. We love you guys. And God has a plan for you guys when you guys get out. Well, count those down for Jesus Christ. Amen. Thank you. Alright. Our final stretch.
We are in Palm Springs. We stay the night at family's house. We're refreshed. Bright-eyed and bushy-tailed. Sharon just made some amazing soap-a that I didn't get to taste. For her nephew. I know. Everybody else got to taste it. No, no, no, no. It is. That is a few minutes later. It's two minutes away, he said. No. Yeah. He's a manager there. But everybody else got to taste it, which is awesome. They loved it. So, he was gracious enough to let us stay the night. Yeah. Yeah. And we didn't get here to, like, almost... 120? 120. We didn't get to bed to, like, almost 2 in the morning. So it helped break up the ride, because we didn't want to wake up in Phoenix and have to drive all the way home. Yeah. So now we're in California side, I don't know, a couple hours in, into California. California's a big state, guys. So there's still many more hours, but I feel a lot better because we cut that time down from the drive yesterday. I'm going to introduce you. We're going to stop up here, because, uh, Brother Johnny, who was actually with me in that water in my last two years.
Um, one of my best friends, uh, actually when I left, at water, when I got to, at water, there was no Bible study group, no nothing. When I left, it was a group of 15 men that I was leading, and, um, when I left, I left it in charge with Brother Johnny, who you're going to meet in a little bit. And then he got out, I want to say two, two years, maybe two years later after I got out. So I think, I'll ask him, I got a 2010, I want to say he got out 2012. I could be wrong though, but anyways, um, he lives this way, so he's going to meet me off the exit because I told him that, you know, we got to get home. Uh, but we're never in this area, so I want to get to see him. Anyways, uh, this is, uh, what's it called? Palm Springs. Palm Springs. Yeah. It's basically the desert before, you know, what Riverside, Los Angeles, all that. Yeah, how'd you feel meeting, um, all the people that we met yesterday? Oh, man. It was... Amazing, right. You know what's crazy is the people that came to see us. We had no idea who's going to show up guys, first of all. We just reached out on YouTube and I said, "Hey, if you're from Arizona, let me know." I didn't say why. I just said, "If you're from Arizona, message me, email me something." And, um, I had about 13 people respond. Um, but you know, these are people that are couples, so really a lot of them. It's 13 people, it's 26 people, you know. Yeah. And, um, so I didn't know. So we had Brother Leonard, the, the brother and, and the sister. I call her, I always call her Brother Leonard's wife. Sister Elizabeth. Yes. And, um, they found a restaurant.
They're the ones that reserve that space we had, you know. So I had no idea who's going to show up, who wasn't going to show up. I just told the restaurant to have 50 chairs ready. So, um, how many people showed up? Uh, 25, many children. Yeah, 25 people. But man, back to what Sharon was asking me. They came excited and they don't realize how exciting it was for us, for me. Yeah. I needed that, guys. Um, just to hear their stories, we, we sat with every single person. Uh, heard their stories, uh, their lives, how they came to Christ. It was just, it filled, it filled my heart, man. You know, I'm sure, you know, I want Sharon to share what it did for her, but it truly encouraged me. Guys, do you know what that's like? Well, maybe you don't. To go to a completely different state in a city and have dinner with people, like family. Yet, you don't know them, you know. But yet, you don't feel like strangers. Yeah. That's amazing. Only God, who there does. It was, it was a feeling like, you know, I just sat there and had watched and listened. And observed and everything. And I was like, wow, Lord, to know that the impact, how you can have the impact in somebody's life. And even, even if they're going to other churches, or it doesn't matter, but we're all part of the same kingdom. But to know that we had a muster seed of a, of an impact that we had. Yeah, that there was a planting of that seed. and I was like Lord it just made everything that we ever gone through been through whatever it doesn't matter every ache and pain in the body sometimes
where we're just tired or we're just feeling a certain way I was like Lord everything is worth it everything is worth it babe yeah it almost takes me back and it just like it's like like the Lord is just telling me that those are the fruits of the labor it's a reminder of why we do what we do yeah and it really is and I'm like these are the reasons why we cannot complain and sometimes what we don't see in other places we see it here kind of like your guys's letters yeah exact sometimes we sit to open letters maybe we're feeling discouraged that moment or that day and then we start reading and your letters are sharing what God is doing or I used to be a shock collar but I gave my life to the Lord or I was I was doing this but I gave my life to the Lord because I was watching you I mean just man it just lifts our spirit and it's like God saying this is why you do it these are lives because what does the Bible say every center who repents all of heaven rejoices can you imagine that you sharing Jesus causes heaven to have a party while and then when we walked in then the Lord strategically strategically places he places the waiter a young man a young man he places a young man who is hungry guys hungry for God does not saved but it's searching and he's like you know he's like I messed up he's like I messed up and he goes and I know that I need I need God and you know I made a mistake but I need something more in my life and you know I told him and I said you realize God's given you another chance because there's people that made one mistake that are in prison right now and in your mistake could have costed you your life and God's given you a second chance and man that stuck hard with him he just his face got he just stopped dead in his tracks and he just like man he's like you're right and I literally told him we get hundreds of letters from people that made one mistake and because of that one mistake they're in prison for life they're in prison for years and they're away from everything that they have unlocked and he's like I need a turn to God I need God in my life and right at that moment and I said you need a surrender to Christ and at that moment we were able to connect him with one of the men right there and we were able to just speak life into him and everything and he was so open to it
and he just he says I need it I need to talk I need to take this table I need to be here with you guys and he just stuck with us that whole night and he got numbers from the men there from everybody there so he can he can connect to some of the men there so that that way they can connect with him and follow up with him and just be able to pour into him it was beautiful guys beautiful yeah it was it was worth it going out there writing the book meeting the people ministry having dinner it was all worth it the time I we got to spend together it was nice do that billboard just Jesus is God he loves you and I love it in an even coming We don't have to get something out of- we don't always have to get something in return, you know. I just wanted to do something for him because I know my little sisters all the way in Utah and I know that this made, this made my sister like my sister was so happy. She's like she almost wanted a cry right now. She was on the phone and she's like, "Sister, thank you so much for doing this for him." You know, but I do this because I know, I know that sometimes, you know, our children, they, they need that, they need to feel that, that love sometimes and are young adults sometimes. They're in that transition of living on their own and sometimes they still need that love, they still need to have that that feeling of like, grandma's soup, you know, when they're feeling sick and everything. And I brought him the baggie so he can be able to back some of that soup and put it in the freezer and take some out whenever he just feels like he wants a little bit of that. Those are the things, little things when you go the extra mile. Those are the things when we do things without expecting anything back or any recognition back. Like what can you do today for somebody without expecting anything back? You guys know they have all these air wind, wind, what do they call it? Windmills? No, they're not called wind turbine. They're everywhere guys, they're pretty ugly. But let me pour electricity. I don't know, I just read a lot of stuff about them that the energy it takes to make them doesn't isn't worth the energy you get out of them. But who knows? All right guys, so check this out, Saturday. October 24th, I want you to come through. We have a grocery giveaway and we want to be a blessing to you. And we're getting all these bags ready for you guys. And yeah, look at that. These are my favorite tricks.
So we want to be a blessing to you. I got to do a pull-up house arrest church, 509th Street, Modesto, California, here in Stanislaw County. We want to be a blessing to you. And we're getting these bags ready just for you. So make sure you show up or share this with somebody that you know needs groceries. It could be a neighbor, a cousin, somebody, a grandma, your grandpa. And we're getting these bags ready. All right guys, he who puts his hands to the plow and looks back is not fit to the kingdom. Midasaws, green beans, four black beans. Okay, sweet firm. Sweet peas, all of these. Everybody's getting at the four bags. This is one bag out of four that you'll get. Now for the carrots. Thanks for our duty state. [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music]
