Testing, testing, there we go. All right. (indistinct) Let's bow our heads, Lord God, we thank you so much for this opportunity, Lord God, to open your word, Lord God, and to receive what it is that you have for us today, open up our hearts and our minds, not only those that are here,
but those that are watching through their screens. We thank you so much, Lord God, we honor you. We love you, we adore you, Lord. In Jesus' name, amen. (indistinct) All right. So we finished Second Corinthians last week. So today, we're going to the Book of Jude. It's still continuing with the life of following Jesus. And this is a one chapter book. But if we can go ahead and go to the Book of Jude, it's toward the end of your Bible. The whole book is 24 verses. Anthony De La Garza, shout out to him. There's a super chat, super cat. All right. Everybody else that's watching on live stream, God bless you. Okay. A lot of times we don't know too much about this book. And it's just a really short letter. And I think still though, because he's talking to the community at that time, I think it's important for us to know and understand, give us some context and hopefully make it relevant for us today, so we can understand. There was a lot of things that were going on in the church back then that he kind of calls out. And that's why I think it's important.
I think throughout this whole study that we've been doing, it helps us to see the things that the churches were going through back then. 'Cause a lot of times we think the issues that we're going through were churches or ministries. We think it's something new, not realizing that, man, this was happening from the beginning. And I think we should find comfort in that because obviously they had issues and the church has continued on. So that means the issues or problems in our day, the church is still gonna continue on. Jesus says on this rock, I will build my church and the gates of hell will not prevail against it. That's what Jesus said. So now that's why I wanted to read this, even though it's just a short book, but I think it's important. So we go to Jude chapter one, verse one and two. We'll start off there. And it just says this. It says Jude, a servant of Jesus Christ and brother of James. To those who are called, beloved in God, the father and kept for Jesus Christ, may mercy, peace and love be multiplied to you. So again, this is a letter. So obviously anytime you start a letter, you kind of started with salutations. I'm gonna read it in the message also.
It says, I Jude, I'm a slave to Jesus Christ and brother to James. Writing to those loved by God the father called and kept safe by Jesus Christ. Relax, everything's gonna be all right. Rest, everything's coming together. Open your hearts, love is on the way. I believe he's saying this to the church because things were happening in the church. There was some persecution going on. There was some hatarisms going on. There was different things going on. Everything's going to be OK, because it's in Christ. And I think that's a good way to start a letter. And then he's going to kind of drop in about kind of the subject of what it is that he's talking to us about. Well, talking to them about, but the Holy Spirit was talking to us. So in verses 3 and 4, he starts off by saying, "Beloved, although I was very eager to write to you about our common salvation, I found it necessary to write appealing to you to contend for the faith that was once for all delivered to the saints." Verse 4, "For certain people have crept in unnoticed, who long ago were designated for this condemnation and ungodly people, who pervert the grace of our God into sensuality and deny our master, our only master, and Lord Jesus Christ." I'm going to read in the message, and we got some stuff to talk about here.
He says, "Dear friends, I've dropped everything to write to you about this life of salvation that we have in common. But I have to write insisting, begging, that you fight with everything you have in you for this faith entrusted to us as a gift to guard and cherish." What has happened is that some people have infiltrated our ranks. Our scriptures warned us this would happen, who beneath their pious skin are shameless scoundrels. Their design is to replace the sheer grace of our God with sheer license, which means doing away with Jesus Christ our one and only master. I mean, clearly he's writing his letter, and he's alarmed. He's alarmed of the things that are happening. He's alarmed with the things that are going on. And like he says in the very beginning, that he was very eager to write to them about the salvation. He was very eager to write him a great letter. But he found it necessary to write for them to contend for the faith. And the message I like it, it says, he says, "I have to write insisting that you fight with everything you have in you for this faith entrusted to us as a gift to guard and cherish." I believe that that fits for us today, that fits for the church today. I think it's fitting that as Christians, as believers, we need to fight for our faith. We need to fight on what we stand for.
We need to fight, and I don't mean fight people. The Bible says we don't fight against flesh and blood, but against principalities. There are demonic forces. There are things that want to destroy the church, attack the church, and even more so, infiltrate the church. And he says, "Man, I'm begging you. Fight with everything you have for this faith that was entrusted to us as a gift." Think about it. How many of you that you have a gift that was given to you by somebody that, maybe your grandma, she ain't no longer there? I have my grandma's Christmas table cover. And that's something that means a lot to me, because it was entrusted. It's a gift that can't be replaced. How much more the gift of Jesus Christ that he died for us? The gift of salvation. It is not just because it's free, does it mean it's cheap? You know, a lot of times they'll say, "Well, salvation is free, but discipleship will cost you everything." And he's like, "Listen, man, I'm contenting with you. I'm begging you to fight with everything you have for the faith, the gift that you have that's been given to you, something precious, something that he suffered for. And we can't take it cheaply. You know, and I think in this day and age,
and obviously it was happening then, people were coming in then, people were trying to corrupt the church then. And I'm gonna say even more so now, we have to be careful in a lot of times in this day and age where we will follow the church that has the most social media. We follow the church that has a marketing strategy behind them. We will follow the church because maybe the pastor speaks eloquently or whatever this is in that, but what does it matter if what he's teaching is not biblical? What if he's teaching nothing but garbage? And we bypass it because he's likable. contend for the faith, fight for the faith that you, that, that gift that you have. And he says it in verse four, certain people have crept in unnoticed. It says again in the message, he says, what has happened is that some people have infiltrated our ranks. You know what infiltrate means with somebody creeps in, somebody goes unannounced like, like, like, like, they go in acting like something that they're not and they infiltrate the church. You don't think that there are people in witchcraft, people in most things that aren't sending people to churches to cause nothing but destruction and division and perversion. And a lot of times that will go after the leaders, will go after the pastor himself at the pastor's not. The pastor's wife for the worship leader. Do you realize what you're asking when you say,
man, I want to be part of worship. Do you realize you're putting yourself on a bullseye right in your forehead? Are you really understanding what you're asking for? I have met many people that were not ready for worship but they insisted, they insisted that they insisted and their marriage fell apart, family fell apart, things happened because they weren't ready to handle it. And no, nothing we say, they would listen. He says, you got to fight for it. What has happened is that some people have infiltrated our ranks, our scriptures warned us this would happen. He says, I'm going to read it in the message for certain people have crept in unnoticed who long ago were designated for this condemnation, ungodly people who pervert the grace of our God. You know, the word pervert doesn't, it's not a sexual word, pervert just means to take it off track. If something is taken off track, it's been perverted. So somebody has taken the message of God of Christ and have perverted his grace into something else that it shouldn't be. And this is what he's saying. He says they have perverted the grace of our God and actually here says they perverted it into sensuality and they deny our master Jesus. You know, we just got to be careful. You know, I've always said before, I've heard, I don't know,
I've heard it said so many times, maybe it's not even true that people that go after counterfeit money, they don't study counterfeit money. They study the real thing because then when you study the real thing, you could always spot the fake. And I don't know if that's true or not. It sounds good, but I think that, you know, have I learned a little bit about other religions? Yeah, a little bit, but honestly, I'd rather study the word of God. Do I know a little bit about other things? Yeah, I do just kind of just by life, by being alive, you kind of learn things, but don't ever go on a tangent where you're reading other false doctrines more than you're reading your own Bibles. But these people that were happening, whatever was happening to that time, they were coming in and they were perverting and turning it into sensuality. And in essence, they were denying Jesus. Sister Phyllis, thank you for that. Bam, Westside Cat for you. Thank you. Anybody guys, over those of you that are on YouTube, if you give us a super chat, we give you a super cat. Helps us to pay the internet here, so we just kind of make it fun. All right, so obviously things were happening
and things were going on in the church at that time and doing this, and it's weird because we're reading this and I feel like man, I feel like Jude was written for 2026. And in verse five, he says, now I want to remind you, although you once fully knew it, that Jesus who saved the people out of the land of Egypt afterward destroyed those who did not believe. Wow, actually on a, he says, I'm gonna read in a message. He says, I'm laying this out clearly as I can, even though you want knew all this well enough and shouldn't need reminding, here it is brief. The master saved the people out of the land of Egypt. Later, he destroyed those who defected. I don't know if you guys remember, but all the people came out of Egypt, Jesus. I mean, the Lord saved them, rescued them, delivered them, back down they were in rebellion they were worshiping a false golden calf and the Lord opened the ground and swallowed the people. So what's he saying here and we got to be careful because we don't we're not trying to turn this into a Turner burn type of a thing but the fact is this is that if God is the same yesterday today and forever then we need to be careful because he's a holy God and we can't forget that. Does he have mercy? Yes of course because if he saves somebody like me I know he's got mercy but don't forget that he's also got a wrath and a lot of times we don't want to hear that or we forget about that or that makes us uncomfortable or whatever but the fact is that he is a god of wrath he's a he's a god of war he's a he's a lord of host when he speaks mountains tremble and he's just like man just because he saved you and he's obviously Judy's talking to the Jewish people and he's like just because God saved you from Egypt don't forget that he destroyed those who came against him and then he uses an example an interesting example in verse six he says and the angels who did not stay within their proper position of authority but left their proper dwelling he has kept in eternal chains under gloomy darkness
until the judgment of the great day in the message it says this it says and you know the story of the angels who didn't stick to their post and they abandoned it for other darker missions but they are now chained and jailed in a black hole until the great judgment day I think we talked about this on week three of the identity of Christ's sermon series that I just finished not this last Sunday but the Sunday before we talked about this at the Bible talks that there was angels that they were so wicked they were so wicked because they stepped out they abandoned what they were supposed to do because even demons have to listen to God but there was some demons that that did not stay within their own position of authority they left and because that God has chained them into the center of the earth and we see that here so a lot of us think like those of you that have ever had to deal with anybody or yourself with demonic possession or anything like that and you're just like man that was bad well those are the those are the demons that that can still roam imagine the ones that are locked up that's like going to prison and saying man it's bad on the yard oh you haven't been to the hole though you haven't been to Pelican Bay you know and it's like that's where it's bad there are people in prison that scare the people in prison so again you know I want to read that again he says and the angels who did not stay within their own position of authority but left their proper dwelling he talking about God has kept in eternal chains under gloomy darkness until when until the judgment of the great day yeah so they're on hold but their day is coming God chained them but the day is coming the day of reckoning is coming where they will answer to God that's why the Bible says every knee shall bow confess that Jesus Christ is Lord everybody even the demons they will bow and even though they are chained the day is coming they think they they think they're in torment now matter of fact you know the Bible says that that that hell is not even the lake of fire yet so they're in torment now and it ain't nothing man he said the Bible says that he will take hell and throw it into the lake of fire not even there yet so yeah so it says in the judgment so now so he used an example of Israel even though they they got saved but they disobeyed so God handled business now he's saying these angels remember angels are holy beans they're angelic beans and God's like yeah I'll lock them in chains they don't want to act right now he's using the third example in verse 7 he says just as Sodom indulge in sexual immorality and pursued
unnatural desire, serving as an example by undergoing a punishment of eternal fire. I'm going to read that in the message. It says, Sodom and Gomorrah which went to sexual rack and ruin, along with the surrounding cities that acted just like them. Or another example, burning and burning and never burning up, they serve still as a stock warning. Wow. So what did he do to that city? He burned it. Matter of fact, they can't even find where those cities were. They think they have found where they were because it's just barren, but they've dug in the ground and they don't understand why there's just many feet of ash. And they're like, where did this come from? What burned here? There's nothing. Nothing will grow there. So they're not sure if that's where it was, but that's wild. So these are three examples in the Book of Jude that God's like saying, listen, these false teachers, man, God ain't playing. God judged Israel, even though he saved them, God judged the angels, even though created them, and God judged the cities of Sod and Gomorrah because they disobeyed. So these are three examples that we have. So in verse eight, this is yet in like manner, these people also relying on their dreams, defile the flesh, reject authority, and blaspheme the glorious ones. And the message says this is exactly the same program of these latest infiltrators. Dirty sex, rule and rulers are thrown out and glory dragged in the mud. You know, I want to kind of back up on something because I don't want to just pass through it in verse seven. I want you to notice something, guys, because I know
in this day and age, people say, well, what's wrong? Love is love. And why can't a woman be with a woman? Men be with a man? Why? Because we are not going according to what the world says, we go according to what the word of God says. I can't change it. You can't change it. And look what it says in verse seven, it says they indulged in sexual immorality and pursued unnatural desire. Perversion, that's what perversion means, to be taken off track, to be taken off to to is going one direction and sent another way. Now, here's another thing though, if you are practicing being with a bunch of women or a bunch of dudes, and then you're pointing at the homosexual, you're just as perverted as them. Why? Because it's still unnatural. It is still not the way God meant it. The Bible says that a man will leave his father and mother cleaving to his wife and together they shall become one. So we got to be careful. But it does here mention here about pursuing unnatural desire. It is not natural. God did not make it that way. Why do you think, oh, I was just talking with us, we're talking of, I don't remember who I was talking to you or maybe the guys on the podcast or I don't know who about this is why Satan attacks children. This is why Satan wants to expose children to things that they should be exposed to because the enemy knows that if he can get them then he will destroy them to their adulthood already. A few days ago, right? So we have to be careful. This is why the enemy wants to destroy our children. In verse nine it says, but when the archangel Michael contending with the devil was disputing about the body of Moses, he did not presume to pronounce a blasphemous judgment but said the Lord rebuke you. In verse nine of the message is the archangel Michael who went to the mat with the devil as they fought over the body of
Moses, wouldn't have dared level him with the blasphemous curse but said simply no you don't. God will take care of you. This is interesting. This is actually this is little pause here there's only time this is Moses died up in the mountain. There was a reason for that. I believe, again, I could be wrong, that if they had the body of Moses, they probably would have ended up worshiping him. And I believe this is why God did not want Israel to have his body. In the same way that Islam has the body of Muhammad, that's why they go and do their stuff, whatever they do, because God did not want the focus to be on Moses. And it's interesting because, again, this is just my thoughts. It's important for me to say that because I never want to teach something as biblical, that we don't know. It's just my thought that I wonder if the reason the arch angel Michael was fighting for Satan for the body of Moses was because Satan wanted to do exactly that and build a religion based on Moses. And the angel was like, no, you don't. Yeah, I rebuke you. No, you don't. Now, why is it? Here's another thought. And this would lead to a whole other study. I believe this is biblical that the Bible says that there's principalities. Well, a lot of times when we think of principality, we think of only demonic principalities. There's a principality over San Francisco, a principality over Oakland, a princess, you know, and we talk in that sense, which I believe is true. We don't fight against flesh and blood, but against principalities, right? Now, the word principality is because there's a prince over that. But a lot of times we think negatively that's only demonic, but here's the thing is that, again, it'd be a whole other study. Maybe that's something we can do later. It seems as if Michael was the prince over Israel, like God assigned Michael to be the prince over over that nation, to be the lookout for them, to watch out for them. And God sends archangels to be princes over different nations. And it seems like those the angels that are on God's side are fighting against the princes of darkness over a contending over that same thing. So it's it's when you go deep into the Bible, it seems that Michael is the prince angel over Israel. And that's why it's Michael fighting for the body of Moses, because he's over that principality of Israel. And anyways, again, we don't know, but it seems to be this only time this is
mentioned of this. So I don't want to stay too long on it, but it's just an interesting verse, interesting verse, verse 10. It says, but these people blaspheme all that they do not understand, and they are destroyed by all that they, like unreasoning animals, understand instinctively. Verse 11, woe to them, for they walked in the way of Cain and abandoned themselves for the sake of gain to Belom's error and perished in Korah's rebellion. I'm going to read that in the message. It says, but these people sneer at anything they can't understand. And by doing whatever they feel like doing, living by animal instinct only, they participate in their own destruction. And I'm fed up with them. They've gone down Cain's road. They've been sucked into Belom's air by greed, and they're canceled out in Korah's rebellion. So again, you know, after he's using these three examples of Israel, of these angels that were thrown in chains of Sodom and Gomorrah. And then even using this example here, he's like, listen, these people who what people, these false teachers, that's what he's talking about. These false teachers are blaspheming God, and they don't even understand what they're doing. And that's why it says that they're living by animal instinct only, and they participate in their own destruction. In other words, they're creating the very bed that they're going to have to lay in. And that's why he says, I'm fed up with them. Jude was saying, I'm fed up with them. I'm tired of it. They've gone down Cain's road. What does that mean? What did Cain do? Cain was a hater of his own brotherhood, of his own brother. Not only that, but he clearly didn't honor God because God didn't want nothing to do with his, with his offering. he's like these people, these false teachers, they're acting like Cain. Like how, like how? As far as the whole teachers and the whole scriptures and saying the glass scheme things that some of these guys are saying. Yeah. Is that in the same category or? I believe so. I might just leave you somewhere. No, no, I believe so. I don't know if you guys heard, there was this, I might as well talk about it. No, no, it's all good. I'm not gonna say his name, either, but there's this preacher who has seen it where he was basically, he basically said that for the three days Jesus was dead, that he was molested by demons and hell. Anybody heard that? Yeah, praise God you didn't hear it. That is the worst blasphemy I have ever heard in all my life. And then he got a lot of backlash and so he said I'm gonna make an announcement talking about it, you know, and I thought he was in a backpedal and clarified. No, he doubled down. He doubled down on it. And what's interesting, we're not interesting, what is sick is as I'm reading this. That's exactly
what I was thinking of because look what it says. Let's go back a little bit. It says in verse four. It says people have crept in unnoticed who long ago were designated for condemnation, ungodly people who pervert the grace of our God into sensuality. Everything is sensual, everything sexual, everything. And that's what this, I'm not even gonna call him a pastor, but that's basically what this man was doing. Just false teaching. Where are we at? Twelve? Verse 12. Let's read 12 and 13. Maria, thank you so much. You'll get the chaplain cat. Thank you. Oh, Andrew on here too. Let's see. You get Bruce cat. Every single super chat, you get a super cat. Thank you. Helps us. All right. 12 says these are hidden reefs at your love feast. As a feast with you without fear, shepherds feeding themselves, waterless clouds swept along by winds, fruitless trees in late autumn twice dead and uprooted. 13. Wild waves of the sea casting up the foam of their own shame, wandering stars for whom the gloom of utter darkness has been reserved forever. I'm gonna read that in the message. It says these people are eyesores at your love feast as you worship and eat together and they're giving you a black eye, carousing shamelessly grabbing anything that isn't nailed down. They're puffs of smoke pushed by gust of wind, late autumn trees stripped clean of leaf and fruit, doubly dead pulled up by the roots, wild ocean waves leaving nothing on the beach, but the foam of their shame, lost stars in outer space on their way to the black hole. So what is it? You know, again, clearly these people that were coming and teaching false teachings, guys, it should make you sick. It should make you angry. If you get angry when somebody talks about your football team, but don't have an issue with somebody blaspheme God, how dare you? How dare us? If we get mad at things like that, but things of the word, we don't get angry or things that no, that's why it said in the beginning of the letter, to fight for the faith that we have. Don't be afraid of it. Don't be ashamed of it. Again, these false teachers in verse 12, I'm gonna read that this certain part again in verse 12, he's talking about these leaders, these false teachers, he says they're shepherds feeding themselves. It's just about them. They don't care about the people. They don't care about the families.
Don't care about the marriages. Don't care about the children. Don't care about the gospel. What worth is a cloud without water has no worth. That's like salt without being salty. Yeah, unsalted salt. He says you were nothing but shepherds feeding themselves waterless clouds swept along by winds. You know what that makes me think of is whatever, whatever is in right now, whatever is, is, is a fad right now, whatever ideology is out right now, it's like these, these false teachers, they just go with it. They just go with whatever is popular, whatever, you know, Fox, CNN, whoever says, whatever is popular, they just go with it, whatever this, whatever is happening, whatever the college students are protesting about, they just go with it. Hey, Brian, thank you. Let's see. You're going to get the, where's the spread cat? Bam. Spread cat. Look at that spread, man. So, and then not only are they swept along by winds, he says they are fruitless trees. Man, one time in the other house when we lived in Stockton, our tree in the front, that would give us those little, what's the proper name? I feel dumb calling them cuties. Tangerines, like in a manly, I'm going to go some cuties, you know what I mean? Like just tangerines, one year, it didn't give us nothing. That was weird. Remember? Yeah, don't be for pollinating at all. Yeah, it's like big old tree, nothing. He says fruitless trees. And he's, and then he goes on, not only fruitless trees, but twice dead and uprooted. He goes, that's what these false teachers are. There are a bunch of trees that have no fruit. And matter of fact, they're uprooted and they're dead. Twice.
I guess that's an old way of telling people off, you know what I mean? Can you imagine somebody cusses you out and you're like, you're an uprooted tree. You fruitless tree, twice dead. Yeah. Yeah, and that's a whole different kind of a road rage. Start learning to tell people off like the Bible does. Yeah. Yeah, he waterless cloud man, whoo, that's to, that's taking it to biblical proportions. Verse 14. It says it was also about these that Enoch, the seventh from Adam prophesied saying, Behold, the Lord comes with 10,000s of his holy ones to execute judgment on all to convict all the ungodly of other deeds of ungodliness that they have committed in such an ungodly way. And of all the harsh things that ungodly sinners have spoken against him. 16 says these are grumblers, malcontents following their own sinful desires. Layer, they are loud mouth boasters showing favoritism to gain advantage. Wow. And, um, hold on. I think this is the part because I know that Jude quotes the book of Enoch because people have asked about the book of Enoch. And they're just like, is it hook him Enoch's not in a Bible? It's not part of the Bible, but Jude quotes Enoch here. That's what he's talking about. I believe somebody fact checked me right now because I believe this is where it's at when he, when he quotes it. Anyways, um, in the message, it says Enoch the seventh after Adam prophesied of them saying, look, the master comes with thousands of holy angels to bring judgment against them all. I'm reading the same verse, but in the message, um, convicting each person of every defiling act of shameless sacrifice of every dirty word. They have spewed out of their pious filth.
These are the complainers, the belly acres grabbing for the biggest piece of the pie, talking big, saying anything that, Wow, I Think Jude's on one He just mad He just like man. I'm sick and tired of this all these false teachers coming all these false teachers coming and just Spewing their garbage and all these things so I believe Jude was like fed up with it. He's like man. You know what? I'm gonna tell people the way it is But honestly, have you ever heard of a righteous anger a godly anger Exactly, that's the Jesus when you over flip over the table is exactly and I believe that because remember we believe that the Scriptures are Inspired by the Holy Spirit. We believe that we have Emotions because God has emotions. That's why the Bible said God says to make man in his image So I believe Jude was feeling this frustration because the Holy Ghost is feeling his frustration And he says write this down because the church needs to know these things So when we're reading this even though it's Jude writing it, it's the spirit of God in him That is that is upset You know what does the Bible say that the Holy Spirit will only speak of Christ and We'll we'll bring we'll speak we'll bring conviction of sin So we see that here Jude So it is quoting Enoch Okay, thank you That there also was a book of Enoch. Yeah, I got a couple super cats here pirate cat to Raven and Sandra Vargas gets I wish I had one with the busted knee but The evangelist cat All right So um, so yeah, that that's that is quoting the book of Enoch and in verse 17
Through 19 He says, but you must remember beloved The predictions of the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ They said to you in the last time there will be scoffers following their own ungodly passions It is these who caused divisions worldly people devoid of the spirit And the message it says this but remember dear friends at the apostles of our master Jesus Christ told us this would happen In the last days there will be people who don't take these things seriously anymore And they'll treat them like a joke and make a religion of their own whims and lust These are the ones who split churches Thinking only of themselves and there's nothing to them no sign of the spirit So even though he's frustrated even though he's upset he's like guys we knew this was going to happen We knew it was going to happen. It was a matter of time and I think this pertains to us today Is that when I see things like that so-called preacher said that I get upset, but the same time I'm like didn't Jesus say these things would happen didn't the Bible say these things would happen That people would find to have itching ears and find themselves teachers who are false and they're going to say the things they want to hear So I love the fact that he's coming full circle as he's nearing the end of his letter And he's like listen this was already talked about we know this was going to happen So what do we do if it's going to happen? That's that's what we're going to that's what we got to talk about and deal with within ourselves Is is think like man, you know, what do I do when these false teachings come along? What do I do? Because again, I think I'm going to say this too is that I don't like this either Not everything's a false teacher just because it doesn't agree with exactly how you do it I think that's that point needs to be made You know, um Let's say I don't know. I can't think the top of my head. I can't think of nothing but Okay Um, I baptized in the name of Jesus here in water I don't baptize like that because of the oneness church or nothing like that
I'm a historical Christian. I like to see what they do in the Bible and I do know historically speaking in the Bible in the name of Jesus, when you cast out devils in the name of Jesus, when you lay hands on a sick in the name of Jesus, historically speaking they baptized in the name of Jesus. Baptism means that Jesus died and was resurrected, so he's the one that died. Out of the Father, Son and Holy Ghost, he's the one that got, he's the one that got put in a barrier. These are reasons historically speaking, why do it? But there are many people that are here, you got baptized already before you came here, you're a Christian already, and that's ridiculous to say, "Hey, so I'm not a Christian unless you baptized me Jesus name, because I was baptized in Father, Son and Holy Ghost, I might do it." Clearly evident the Spirit of God is on you, I'm not going to baptize you again. That doesn't make sense, because I understand the Father, Son and Holy Ghost is still one. It's the same difference, I'm just telling you how I baptized, but I'm not making it into a doctrine. But let's say, actually there have been people that have heard me do it and say, "Oh, that's false." And I'm like, okay, you know what I'm saying, tell me, so it's false to use his name, explain that one to me, I said, "Because I will not say you're false for baptizing Father, Son and Holy Ghost." That's what I mean, don't do things like that, and say, "Oh, that he baptized is different than Pastor David, so he's a false teacher," no, that's just, no, now there are things that I'm going to hold tight. If somebody comes and says, "Jesus was not born of a virgin Mary," I'm saying, "You are a false teacher that is false." I will fight for that one, why? Because if Jesus was not born of a virgin, that means he was born from the seat of man, and if he was born from the seat of man, that means he was born in sin, and if he was born in sin, he couldn't be sinless, and if he wasn't sinless, he couldn't die for us, and we are still heading to hell.
So I will fight on that hill that he was born of the virgin Mary. I will fight for the fact that he died on the cross, and the same body that was ripped and broken and nails driven, and the thorns, that same body rose again after three days. I will fight on that hill. Why? Because other false teachers have said, "Well, he was God, so he didn't really feel the pain." No, he felt the pain, even though he's completely God, he's completely human. He had to. He had to suffer for us. The Bible says that he was tempted in every way that we were tempted. That he felt that pain, and he resurrected bodily in three days. That same body came up healed, because if he did not rise healed, then that means there's no hope for us. So there are certain things that if somebody tells me something different, if somebody says that the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are completely separate, that is false. I'm sorry, because they asked Jesus, "What is the greatest commandment?" He says, "Here, O Israel, our Lord God is one." He says that. They asked Jesus, "What's the greatest commandment?" That's what he said. But when you have a Jehovah witness, I want to say that Jehovah, and then Jesus is the lesser God, I'm sorry, that's a false teaching. So those are things that we stand for, things that we're going to contend for. This is what I'm talking about. That is a false teaching. But the way we worship, the way we do this, or we do that, don't be so quick to say somebody's false. That's all I'm saying. Be careful with that.
I guarantee you, if I get 10 pastors in the room, great pastors that are here in Modesto, we're probably not going to agree on every single thing. That doesn't mean nine of us are false teachers, and one is not. But I'll tell you what, I guarantee you, all 10 of them will say, "Yes, I believe in the virgin birth. Yes, I believe that Jesus died on the cross. Yes, I believe that after three days, he rose again in power, and he's coming back again. All 10 preachers, and if anybody doesn't believe that, then they are a false teacher, because that is doctrine, that is biblical. But anything else, there's people that, again, the flood, was it the whole world? Was it regional? Man, that's not a hell or a heaven issue. You know, who did Cain marry? I thought it was only Cain and Abel and Adam and Eve, and the Bible says that he went and went to a city and got married, and I'm like, "What does that have to do with your salvation? I might have a theory about it. You might have a theory about it. You might have a theory about it. And what, the one you agree with, that one's true and the rest are false?" No, those are just silly arguments. So be careful on throwing out false teacher haphazardly. When I see people bring in witchcraft, Because that is not cool. That's not right and a lot of times as Christians We don't know that because we didn't come out of witchcraft. We didn't come out of something Yeah, we didn't come out of whatever it is and and people want to mix that and they want to bring it into the church And they want to do and the whole time you're thinking they're worshipping but they're doing chance up there That is a false teaching That's what I'm talking about. So we have to learn and we have to understand and have discernment And what is wicked and what is evil and what is just different and what is false? You know, so I
Just ran to just like Jude Marcelo save me brother you get the prayer cat brother because you're always praying That's a good thing. Hey, man Okay, where are we at? Yes But Doctrine means like a teaching It's just it's just another word for teaching can somebody let what's actually the the definition of doctrine, huh? Like a teaching They set up or principles believes or teachings that a group school of thought or government Or teachings that a group or school Yeah, so it's a set of rules It's a set of rules and principles So let's say this church believes, you know They have a set of rules and another church has a set of rules another church. It's set of rules. So that's their doctrine, you know Nothing wrong with doctrine in the sense of It depends on what you do for instance. I use this silly example If you work at Burger King you have a Burger King uniform. You really like your Burger King uniform You just really like it. You just wear it on your day off, right? You know, so So I mean you just love that uniform and And then you get fired, but you keep your uniform so you go get a job at McDonald's and you show up in McDonald's in your Burger King uniform and They pull you to the side. They're like Hey, man, you know, you make good burgers you make good fries, but you can't wear that uniform here and They're like why this is America. I have the freedom to wear any whatever I want and I've freedom to express anything That's true. We are in a free country right, but When you decide to join McDonald's then you have to be accordingly because when you're going into McDonald's They want you to wear the uniform they want you to wear so I say that to say this some churches Now I don't have an issue if some churches say hey, we got to dress up dress your best For instance, you know suit tie dresses all that. I don't have an issue with that
Because if that's the type of church you're going to then dress accordingly Here's the problem when that church says you're not really saved unless you come in a suit That is a false teaching now. You're adding your own church doctrine To biblical doctrine see that's a problem You know, it's a problem and there's churches that have certain rules that those are fine That's great. That's the way they do things But the moment it becomes a hell or or have an issue or a salvation issue with this or that Then they're mixing their doctrine with Bible and that is dangerous, you know, so Then that makes sense Yeah, okay, you know, I don't think there's anything wrong, you know, if Yeah Oh Oh Oh Oh Oh Oh Oh Oh Oh Oh Oh Oh Oh Oh Oh Oh Oh Oh Oh
Oh Oh Oh Oh Oh Oh Oh So you know your house being so you're just supposed to be the office for sale? you're asking about like a prosperity that everything's about money everything's about is that what you're saying yeah Enrique I think that would be the way to explain yes yes there are a few things and that's what you mean for and you're going to visit that the other and there's a lot of variation when we just finished the book we're starting to win and that will be the issue they were having to do for folks right they would come in and bragging about all the stuff that they had they were throwing their title not trying to get into that yeah that's more of a theological yeah right discussion what you're saying right now that's what you hold on the other stuff can be debated yeah yeah I also think people can produce church documents with belief statements when you're a new Christian yeah I think they can easily confuse belief statements church belief statements with church documents very easily especially when they're new yeah well our our belief statement is only nine and I kept it very minimal for that reason because I don't want to add a bunch of things that here at house of rest you know I don't want to add all that stuff so Dale yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah I'm in a bad situation I got my more fun yeah I'm out thank you huh yeah yeah that's been a constant for when you walk yeah I got an example I don't agree with tattoos as a Christian I know that's not a heaven or hell issue I know there's people here they get tattoos I'm not like get out of here you know I mean like I don't because I you know that's that's you that's you know that's you I'm not gonna I just don't agree with it
because of what tattoos meant for me in the past just the same way I don't wear red there's nothing there's no nothing sinful about the color red at all but what it meant to me I have a conviction of it but I don't have it in my belief statement oh as a house of rest I will not wear red you know I mean that's ridiculous that's my thing you know I'm saying so yeah there's certain things that are biblical doctrinal things like like you're saying the essential things and then there's other things that are you know like it's the same thing with alcohol you know the Bible never says you can't drink it says don't be drunk I don't drink at all though you know I'm saying but if I see somebody and they have a beer or something and they're not drunk or something I don't have any biblical basis to say nothing to that person unless I knew they came out But all I would say here at House of Rest, I said, listen, okay, you were never drunk, you didn't deal with alcoholism, you have a glass of wine on your anniversary. Can you not put that on social media? Because there are people in this church that came out of alcoholism. And the last thing you want to do is cause your brother or sister to stumble. You know, so it's little things like that that we gotta be, you know, we gotta be careful with calling somebody a false teacher, false Christian, or preferential, you know, and yeah, you know, the fact is, there's a lot of people here that came out of addiction, you know? And if you're like, well, I don't care. Well, that says a lot, 'cause Jesus says, love the Lord your God with all your heart or your soul, your mind or your strength,
then likewise, love your neighbor. So if you're causing brother or sister to stumble here, then you're not loving them. And if you're not loving them, then you don't have the love of God in you. And if you don't have the love of God in you, I'm gonna question your salvation. See what I mean? So it kind of builds up to that. Somebody raise your hand? I don't know. Okay. Where are we at? I don't wanna end this without finishing it, 'cause we're just right at the end. - 20? - No. 20? - Yeah. - All right. - 20. - 20, he says, "But you beloved, "building yourselves up in your most holy faith "and praying in the Holy Spirit. "Keep yourselves in the love of God, "waiting for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ "that leads to eternal life." And the message is, "But you, dear friends, "carefully build yourselves up in this most holy faith "by praying in the Holy Spirit,
"staying right in the center of God's love, "keeping your arms open and outstretched, "ready for the mercy of our master Jesus Christ, "this is the unending life, the real life." In other words, what he's saying, I'll summarize that. Staying your lane. Keep your hand to the plow. Quit worrying about what this person is doing and that person is doing, you do you. And worry about your salvation and build yourself up. You know, that's the best thing you can do is be a living example for everybody around you. In verse 22 and 23, it says, "And have mercy on those who doubt. "Save others by snatching them out of the fire "to others show mercy with fear, "hating even the garment stained by the flesh." It says, "Go in the message, "go easy on those who hesitate in the faith. "Go after those who take the wrong way. "Be tender with sinners, but not soft on sin." Mm, let me read that again. Be tender with sinners, with the person, but soft, but don't be soft on sin. The sin itself stinks to high heaven. That's powerful. And then 24 and 25. It says, "Now to him who was able to keep you from stumbling "and to present you blameless
"before the presence of his glory with great joy "to the only God, our Savior, through Jesus Christ, "our Lord, be glory and majesty and dominion "and authority before all time and now and forever, amen." And the message just says, "And now to him "who can keep you on your feet." 'Cause you can't keep yourself on your feet. I can't keep myself on my feet as Christ who keeps us on our feet. He says, "Standing tall in his bright presence, "fresh and celebrating, to our one, to our one God, "our only Savior." There is no other Savior. Your pastor, your Savior, your evangelist, things are Savior. Your favorite YouTuber is not your Savior. Your president and not your Savior. Your mayor is not your Savior. Your governor is not your Savior. There's only one Savior. His name is Jesus, through Jesus Christ, our master. (congregation applauds) Be glory and majesty and strength and rule before all time and now and to the end of all time. Yes, so I love that. I love the fact that even though he just kind of ranted the whole time, he ends it with man, it's all Jesus. It's Jesus and Jesus alone, there is nothing else. There is no name, other name in heaven that you can be saved. He's the only one.
He's the only one that can save the drug addict. He's the only one that can save the prostitute. He's the only one that can save the drunk. He's the only one that can save the atheist. He's the only one that can save a witch or a warlock. He's the only one. There is nobody else. It's only Jesus. Bill? - Oh, I just want to say so. No, I don't want this. No, I don't want this. [BLANK_AUDIO] [ Inaudible ] [ Inaudible ] [ Inaudible ] [ Inaudible ] And I agree. I'll go say this. I don't know if you guys know this. Because I've never drank alcohol in my life. I have never tasted it in my life. And people are like, wait a second. I thought you were this drug dealer. I did. I did do those things. I wasn't gangs. I wasn't all that. I never drank alcohol in all my life because I saw my father as a child. He was an alcoholic. Then my brother became an alcoholic. I used to see my mom cry and cry and cry until my dad got saved. And I said within myself, I would never make my mom cry. I made a cry for other reasons, but not for that. But we can't say alcohol is a sin because the Bible doesn't say, we can't add to it. I almost wish it said that. But it doesn't say it. But it does say to be drunk is a sin. And most people I know can't stop with one drink. So, you know what I'm saying? I think it's just better to abstain, to be honest with you. Nothing, nothing good ever comes out of it. Yeah, I never saw anybody's life get better. Nobody said, you know what? My life was horrible. But the moment started drinking, man, my life got really good. Tina? In the first, then it says, "To others, show mercy for fear." What does that mean?
What part? Read it. I don't have my mom. Was it the last 22? 23. It says, "Save others by smashing them out of the fire to others show mercy with fear." I mean, honestly, just top of my head the way I see it is a lot of times we could get very prideful. Like, just because we're saved, we think we could just talk any other way to anybody that's living in sin. That's how I take it. I could be wrong. You know? That's how I take it. It says, "Be merciful to those who get out. Save others by smashing them from the fire to whether show mercy makes good fear." Hating even the clothing staying my corrupted flesh. I think next to fear, part of the news, like the web breaks. Doesn't mean to be afraid, scared of the soul of God. Well, yeah. I think, too, though, let's say you're having an argument with somebody who doesn't believe in Jesus. And now, all of a sudden, you're just like, "Dude, you're going straight to hell, man. You're going to hell, and I'm going to heaven." You kind of lord over them. Do you not have fear for that person's soul? Yeah, I don't know. For me, I mean, I've done a lot about the soul we're saving. Yeah. As I said, the other people born, even though the person that you had, did that out here before, and that went through for a Vietnam state. Yeah. We have a bunch of on here said, "Only drunks say that they function better when they're drunk." [laughter] [inaudible] I'm drinking. [laughter] You have a problem with me. Yeah. [laughter] So, man, that was a good little rant that Judah had.
[inaudible] [inaudible] All right. Thank you. We are still on the life of following Jesus. We read through 1 Corinthians 2 Corinthians and Last week we read through What was the book last week? Jude yeah, the book of Jude and today we're on Titus Titus is another short book. It's only three chapters But they're very short chapters first. I want to give a shout out to Anthony De La Garza for the Supercat super chats and And we're just gonna go ahead and start in the book of Titus This was a because a lot of times we look at Timothy as a very close student of Paul's But Titus was also a student of Paul's and when I say a student He was a student, but he was also a teacher He was there he was raising up these men to be leaders and to help start churches and establish places of worship So these were his closest and Titus was another one that was very close to the Apostle Paul This is a letter that is written to Titus as he's giving him instruction of what he wants him to do and We're gonna go ahead and start we're gonna read one through four and The ESV and then one through four in the message and then we will talk about it Okay so it says Paul a servant of God and An apostle of Jesus Christ For the sake of the faith of God's elect and their knowledge of the truth Which accords with godliness in hope of eternal life which God who never lies? promised before the ages began and At the proper time manifested in his word through the preaching with which I have been entrusted by the command of God our Savior and Then he the salutation to Titus this because this is a letter my true child in a common faith Grace and peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Savior
So we know Titus was obviously a younger man to the point where Paul saw him as a son In the same way he saw Timothy in the message. I'm reading the same verses, but in the message It's made a lot simpler and it says I Paul am God's slave and Christ's agent for promoting the faith among God's chosen people Getting out the accurate word on God and how to respond rightly to it My aim is to raise hopes by pointing the way to life without end This is a life God promised long ago and he doesn't break promises and Then when the time was ripe he went public with his truth I've I've been entrusted to proclaim this message by order of our Savior God himself dear Titus legitimate son in the faith Receive everything God our Father and Jesus our Savior gives you so this is a salutation This is the beginning of the letter that he's writing but he says some important things that I just want to point out before we move on and Again, this is how we establish a lot of the things that we know about Paul is number one He called himself a servant now Somewhere along the line sometimes in ministry We think that if we have a title that were to be served matter of fact the bigger your title the more you should serve And the Apostle Paul is saying he's literally saying I'm a servant of God I'm a servant and so it's interesting because within the same sentence then he says and an apostle What is that an apostle somebody that establishes a work? He's not an evangelist He's an apostle so an evangelist goes and preaches a gospel and keeps it moving an Apostle stays there builds up leaders raises a church and then he leaves after he establishes it So this is who Paul was so not only he goes. I'm a servant of God, but an apostle And for what and he says that in the next the next portion he says for the sake of the faith Of God's elect and and their knowledge of the truth which accords with godliness in hopes of eternal life So he goes this is my job is to share eternal life with people And I love it because he says which God who never lies the Lord doesn't lie
That he promised before ages began so he promised eternal life. So Paul's mission is to teach the God eternal life because God doesn't lie because God has always promised it and And then it says in verse three and at the proper time manifested in his word through the preaching Which which with which I have been entrusted? I like that because in the message what he says there is And when the time was ripe he went public with his truth and I have been entrusted He says to proclaim this message by order of our Savior So Paul is like listen. This is who I am. This is what God God has given me a mission God has given me a directive God has given me marching orders and this is what my job is to do is to tell people about him About his eternal life. This is important He says and obviously at the end of that verse for he's we know who he's writing to he's writing to Titus Titus is like a son to him in the faith So he's writing his letter so he right after that that salutation. He dives right in and in verse five He says this is why I left you in Crete So this is an actual place that still exists today So we can kind of follow in a map of where he's talking about So why did he leave Titus in Crete? He says so that you might put what remained into order And appoint elders in every town as I directed you and the message is as I left you in charge in Crete So you could complete what I left half done Appoint leaders in every town according to my instruction So I love the fact that now Paul is not going around establishing churches himself He would go establish start to build up leaders and he would leave Timothy or he would leave Titus And I'm sure he probably had more and he's like hey He goes I'm gonna keep it moving, but you don't you stay here and establish these leaders pour into them Pour into them and establish leaders and solidify this church and then I'll meet you. So it seemed like Everywhere he went he will start and then he would give it to these guys. How are these guys ever gonna learn? Unless he gave them some responsibility They were never gonna learn until that happens, you know, so again, we see that in verse And also and I liked how it he very clearly says that I left you there to appoint leaders So it's interesting to that Paul wasn't even appointing the leaders He's he trusted Titus so much that he's like, you know, you know Titus
I went to establish that church you choose the leaders that are gonna be there you choose the pastors the elders you choose the leaders that are gonna be there and Then this is the the good part here because he goes into a list of how to choose a leader I never forget a Pastor told me I was not yet pastoring house of rest yet and And he says David he goes listen to me because I think he had been ministry almost 40 years He passed away a few few years ago, but he's to have he's to come over and have coffee with me every day He was already retired. He wasn't pastoring the church and he would spend his mornings with me And you know when you get somebody that has been a pastor for 40 years you're gonna talk less and listen more and I would just sit there and listen to this man, and I'll never forget one day. He told me he goes You know how you choose leaders And obviously he knows he knew what he was an answer me But he wanted to see what I was gonna come up with and I'll just say I don't know and thought about that He was you gonna pastor and you never thought about how you're gonna choose your leaders. I said well, I mean That's what I got you for right And he says this he says never choose your leaders during good times He says you got to see them through the storms Because that's when you see what they're really made of And I never forgot that You know it's it's it's when somebody goes through something. I remember my my friend. He lives in Mexico now He's he's a marine. He went to Iraq and fought and he used to say that They had a hard time listening to officers that would come That were in a spotless camouflage like it looked like it just came off the rack He says now he was you ain't salted And I said what do you mean by that? He says well when you sweat Like if you have a hat and you always wear that hat it has that ring of salt
He says if an officer came and he wasn't salty. I wasn't gonna listen to him. He's gonna get us killed He was if somebody came and they were salted up that means that they were out in the desert and they knew what they're talking about He was they had been through hell and back He was so he was it was I've never you know forgot him saying that you know by this time, I would say Paul was salted up. I mean, we read on the last, I think that saying Corinthians, all the stuff he had been through, remember when he was bragging? He's like, man, I've been beat up, I've been stoned, left for dead, all that stuff. So so now he's telling Titus how to choose leaders. So here it goes in verse six, he says, if anyone is above reproach, the husband of one wife and his children are believers and not open to the charge of debauchery or insubordination. For an overseer as God steward must be above reproach. He must not be arrogant or quick tempered or a drunkard or violent or greedy for gain. So that's verse seven. I'm going to read it in the message. And it says this, as you select them, is this man well thought of? What do people think about him? You know, as you guys, I'm not sure you guys already know this, but a piece of paper that says your pastor don't mean nothing. It doesn't mean nothing unless you're, it goes according to this list, because it's just a piece of paper. And that's all it is. You know, so it says here, it's a man well thought of. And then the second question, is he committed to his wife? Wait, my screen turned off. Give me a second. Is he committed to his wife? Are his children believers? We're going to talk about that one right now. Do they respect him and stay out of trouble? It's important that a church leader responsible for the affairs in God's house be looked up to. He not pushy, not short tempered, not a drunk, not a bully, not money hungry. The first one above reproach, above reproach is beyond blame. You know, if somebody wants to lead, and I'm not talking about just pastor in a church, just even leading a ministry, this should be the criteria. Because you're leading other people, you're, you're, you're leading them into either hell or heaven. It's a serious thing. So are you above reproach above blame? Is there all kinds of scandal about you? Is there kinds of, you know, all kinds of this and that about you? Is there a bunch of unaccounted time? Nobody knows where you're at. Nobody knows what you're about. Nobody. Yeah, yeah, we see you on Sunday. What about the other six days? You know, and so it's like above. Are you well thought
of? And then the second one committed to a wife or the wife, the husband of one wife, obviously, because there's some stuff going on back then. And I think stuff goes on now. Because you know, I remember a lot of times for a woman, if a woman wants to know if a guy's going to treat her right, how does he treat his mother? Right? Because if he treats his mom bad, oh, for sure, he's in a treat you bad. So the husband of one wife. And then this part, this part gets, people get stuck a lot. And again, this, this next part may be opinion. This is what I think. But it says, and his children are believers. I got children that are not believers right now. How many of you have children that are not believers right now? Okay. So you struggle when you read that, you're like, Oh, man, I shouldn't pastor them. My, my phone keeps blinging or being over here, whatever. So anyways, you got to remember in the Jewish culture, when you were 12 and has your bar mitzvah, you were considered a man. At that point, you were responsible for your own self. It wasn't your parents. That's why bar mitzvah in the Jewish culture is an important thing. It's a sign that you are now a man. After your bar mitzvah, you could actually participate in a synagogue. You could read scripture in a synagogue because you are not a child anymore. People will get married young back then, you know, and I'm not making an excuse. But basically, it's like, again, this is opinion, maybe. I'm just basing my opinion. What I, what I believe scripture saying is that when your children are little, they're your responsibility. It's your responsibility. If they're going to be disrespectful, it's your responsibility. If All this stuff, that's your responsibility. You know, I don't know about you guys, but in my day, however I acted as a child, reflected on how my parents were raising me. You know, and I know nowadays, nobody wants to discipline their kids. But it is what it is, man, you know, and the Bible says, don't spare the rod. We have to be able to discipline our kids, why? Because we don't, we want them to learn respect. We want them to have honor.
We want, most of all, we want them not to grow up and be adults, they just do whatever they want to do. You know, and here I am talking and after being a prison and other, but I'll tell you what, my dad, if my dad wouldn't have disciplined me, I know for a fact that would have been worse. But, you know, I think God had a dad and a mom that would say, oh, you keep acting, I'm gonna tell your dad when he gets home. That's all it took for me. Anybody of you, any of you, all you had to hear was, okay, I'll tell your dad when he gets home. That was it, and I'll calm down. You know, so again, when I read this scripture, he's talking about your children. Are they believers? Are you raising them right? Because it was up to the father to teach the children. You know, and a lot of us, we think that we're doing our kids a favor, but we don't discipline them, but you're not, you're hurting them. You truly are, you know? And unfortunately, I'm gonna say this, you're gonna pay for it later in tears. You are, I mean, it's better to make them cry now than to call you on a collect call because they didn't learn discipline from you.
So now they're not gonna listen to a police, they're not gonna listen to a principal, they're not gonna listen to a teacher, 'cause they don't even listen to you. That doesn't help, you're hurting them. So, his children are believers and not open to the charge of debauchery. Verse seven, for an overseer has got steward must be above reproach, and then again, he can't be arrogant. So you don't want, who wants a leader that's arrogant, thinks he's all that. You know, there's some preachers I see on TV, I'm just like, man, that dude is so arrogant. So it's like, you already got to strike out. How is it that you have this church? We need to be humble. We need to humble ourselves. Nobody is above anybody. We're all, what did Paul say in the beginning? We are servants of God. That's it, we're just servants. You know, I don't have this thing of, hey, when you address me, call me pastor. You know what I mean? We're all servants. You know, and I think that's important for us to understand is that, you know, we have to know and understand that the opposite of arrogant is to be humble, man.
You know, and people tend to become arrogant the more they have, the more they build, the more they have this and more than that. And he's like, listen, you can't be arrogant. What's the next one? Quick tempered. Just to get just always angry, always fast, short fuse. And, and you know, I know women are short fuse too, but men, sometimes you're like, well, that's just the way I am. I thought you were born again though. Oh, that's the way I used to be. Nobody would talk to me like that, but I thought you were born again. I thought you're new creation in Christ. All things passed away, all things become new. 'Cause I'll tell you what, if you get offended that easy, it means you haven't died to yourself yet. 'Cause I can go and offend, I can go to the on scenic drive right now to the cemetery and start offending all those people laying in there. Nobody's gonna argue with me. You know why? 'Cause they're dead. But the Bible says that you're dead in Christ. So why are you getting so offended? So again, you know, he's like, listen, you have to be above reproach, you can't be arrogant, cannot be quick-tempered or a drunkard. We talked about this last week,
we talked about alcohol, he can't be a drunkard. He can't be violent or greedy for game. In the message, it says, money hungry. Everything's about money, everything's a come-up, everything's a hustle, everything. If every conversation you have is because you wanna get something from them, you already started bad. Do you need to check yourself? Like are you really talking to them because you wanna be their friend? You're really talking to them reaching for Jesus or you're really talking to them because you wanna get something from them? little title it's a qualifications for an elder or a leader and if that is happening then that's a check mark but in verse 8 then he says what a leader should be Francis Allen thank you so much you get the pastor cat thank you all right in verse 8 this is how we should be verse 8 says but be hospitable a lover of good self-controlled upright holy and discipline the message says he must welcome people be helpful wise fair reverent and have a good grip on himself so this leader can't be all over the place getting mad real fast doing this doing that just no control no nothing hospitable and a lover of good to love the things that are good the things that are right the things that are righteous and and and it's this upright the upright to me is is to be in right standing that you don't have this double life you you you're upright you're you are in right standing with God you're not two people or three people depending on who you're around just be upright you know and I'm going to say this too is that if you're reading this and you're
like well I'm not a leader I'm not a pastor your leader of your house you lead over your children so that does apply and maybe you're reading this and you're like oh man I'm disqualified no don't do that say okay now I know what I need to work on because if you're reading this you're like man okay I'm good with this I'm good with this I'm not so good with that don't throw your Bible way and give up just say Lord help me in this now you've got something to pray for and just be honest with God Lord I'm really this list that we read there's two things that I really struggle with Lord but I want to please you so how how can I become better at this because the Lord can change a man and a woman he can change your heart this isn't a list to count you out this is a list of what to pray for it and I like that because after it says self-controlled upright it says holy holy means set apart for God are you set apart for God you know and it's like in other words you're not giving yourself to God on Sunday and then giving yourself to say then that's like you're you're with your spouse on the weekend but then you what do they call them no when people have those spouses at work what they call them a work wife or work husband that ain't right is it no but we do that to God we can't do that to the Lord we got to be holy set apart for him I'm yours Lord I belong to you I don't belong to you and then say that's cheating on God Lord I belong to you everything I have is yours and everything you have is mine and my heart is yours my my thoughts are yours my my my my dreams my future my children my house my family it is all yours I want to be holy set apart for you and it says and disciplined you know we have to learn to be disciplined we have to learn to and then some people say like oh man I'm not disciplined I can't do that I get on diets and I mess up or do this and get but you go to work you discipline to go to work you discipline to pick up that paycheck you discipline to get the stuff you like at the grocery store when you run out of this or run out of that you make sure you have some you know you're disciplining the things we want to be so we need to be disciplining the things of the Lord and prayer and reading and fellowship and worship be It's like oh, there's no game. I'll go to church then
What Jesus gets your seconds I want my Jesus to get my first The first fruits He should get the first he's first You know is your hand raised or you just okay go ahead I This I Was like church is not priority. I was like don't I tell me that again, but I have My kids my kids love coming, but for her to tell me that I kind of felt away like no like this is my schedule I have an encounter we can church every Wednesday Sunday every other Friday We do our classes online. Yeah, I for her to tell me that I kind of like Okay, you don't you don't tell me I have a church prior or church is a part of it Yeah, I know Sharon has a similar right Yeah, and in 30 years I have I have never worked weekends I have never accepted a job that tried to take me away from The church, but here's the here's the beautiful thing though because I need my example for that I have always turned down. There's been jobs that I've tried to say I need to order weekends I'll be like sorry. I can't I won't do it. I have never in 30 years Abraham now Abraham will not take a job that would take him away From from this church at all because you know I think to him it's like I have to be there on Sundays and he will not take a position And that's been ever since he started working but I think that I think we need to hold to that standard because you know that I think that's important because our Children will follow suit and they will we have to be the ones to lead by example And I think that's that's really important, but my family For a very very long time It's you know, it was a cold. It's this it's that it's that your children only church church church church church church But it took many many years many years that now it's my family that calls for prayer
It's my family that calls. So I'll tell you just do not give Yeah, and shut him up. She had a book's terrible. She's perking over. Yeah Yeah, but you continue you continue to stick you know we're both fast on that because you know what you will be that filler in your family and you will be the one Meeting by example because that day will come where you're gonna be the one praying for your family and you're gonna be the one Leading them to the Lord and everything so continue to hold fast on that man Dale Yeah, cuz we're all leaders Yeah The profit was a seer but an overseer somebody that oversees like a like an elder. Yeah Okay, so Where are we verse 9 verse 9 says he must hold firm to the trustworthy word as taught So that he may be able to give instruction in sound doctrine and also to rebuke those who contradicted man This is a good one. So let me read it in a message So besides the the leader having to be you know, not all these things It says they need to have a good grip on the message on the scriptures Knowing how to use the truth, which is the word to either spur people on in knowledge or stop them in their tracks if they oppose it You know and and that's a big one that a lot of times, you know Get skipped over. This is why this is so important This is why the meat of this church is Wednesdays not Sundays because we dive into the word We read the word because I want you guys to be able to read line by line verse by verse because that's the only way it's it's gonna get ingrained in you You know, I purposely don't like to do topical Bible studies or I'll choose a topic because you know what happens I end up choosing my favorite topics and And I don't want that that doesn't do you any good. I Rather just read through the word and sometimes it forces you to hit verses that that convict? how it says that this leader must hold firm to the word as they were taught so they can give instruction in sound doctrine. That way, that way you teach things right. You don't lead people astray. You don't lead people according to this doctrine or that doctrine, but you instruct with what the word says. And it says you're able to rebuke those who contradict that word.
You know, and there's so much stuff out there right now. I mean, there are some good, good good churches and good pastors and good evangelists and good, but there's a lot of bad, you know, and man. And if you don't, it's like buying a car, you go to buy a used car and they don't want you to see the engine because they want to show you how shiny the paint is. And then they want to show you how good of a speaker sound system it has. And you're like, can I see the engine? Oh, but it has both speakers and it has, you know, and I'm like, can I see the engine? Oh, the windows are really nice. And can I see the engine? And a lot of times we do church, not us, but we have church with, it just looks shiny. But nobody wants to show you the engine. The engine is the doctrine of the word of God. And everybody just, you just want to, we have a great kids program and we have this and we have that and we got slides and we have swings for them and books for them and all kinds of stuff for the youth. And we take them here, we take them there. But what's the engine of this place? What's that? In what way? What do you mean? When you look at the shiny things. Oh, yeah. Yeah. And in this sense of your eternal life. So it's important guys that you being your words and my prayer is that you're not only in your word on Wednesday here, that you're in your word that you have your own personal study or your audible. If you if you drive a lot, if you commute a lot, if you're at a warehouse and you can have earphones, why you listening to music for it? Yeah, worship, but listen, listen to the word, put the Bible, you know, and be edified, get built up in those things, you know, and to the, even if you got to play it over and over, even let's say Titus, you're like, after this Bible study, like I'm going to listen to Titus every day, this week on Audible. And then listen to your music, your podcast, whatever. But listen to Titus till it becomes ingrained in you. Adele? Yeah. I'm talking guy, and you say, I think a lot of oldies are good. Yeah. Okay. And that's the two moral times. But then the wife got me a Bible, you know, this pain. So basically the oldest verses get me almost because, yeah. And now I have it in my car. It's a word all over time. That's all I want to listen to. And it made that change. And I realized that the moral is for goodies. Wasn't really helpful to me at all. Nothing. I mean, you know, if you listen to them too much, you can get the words in your hand. And you're going to be, can't even hardly pray because you have to be solid. I mean, you know, that's what happened to me. Yeah.
So I don't recommend anybody to get, I've got to display it. Get the word of God, and sell everybody, you know, get it displayed. And you can learn a lot. I learned a lot. The things that I didn't even know. Yeah. There's so many places we get the word. I'm even in movies right now. Right now in the theaters, right here at Brendan, they're playing Daniel. And it's a story of Daniel. It's called Daniel in the fiery furnace. It's playing right now. We need to support Christian films. Take your families. Take your kids. You know, we went to watch it. And it, you know, a lot of times Christian films sometimes they kind of really deviate from the scriptures. This one stays pretty close to the actual story. It's really good. And again, you get it in you. And then it becomes a conversation with your children. Because then you talk about, what's your favorite part? What do you think about this? Because it's Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, and they throw them. Yeah. And you have a great, great conversation, you know, for them. You know, for those of you that have children as well, they have the New King James version of Bible that actually plays with along with the pictures and everything. It's a great idea. It's actually for like over 30 something hours on YouTube. And that's something that-- - So it's free. - And it's for free. And you put it on and believe it or not, it actually grabs your attention. And if you just put it on, eventually your kids are gonna wanna sit down and watch the visuals as this is playing because it grabs your attention. And you actually see the visuals of the words as it's telling the stories and it just goes on. And that's something great to play for your children. Just play it in the house because I love to just play that. And sometimes it just grabs you and it just brings you in and you just sit there.
And I suggest for children, you just play it in your house and you're gonna see how your kids are just gonna gravitate towards it. I think it's great. Just look it up, look it up and you're gonna love it. - Tina? - You know, when it comes to the word of God and your children, always remember you don't need to know it all. Don't think that, oh, I don't know the word good enough so I can't speak to my children about it. That is a self-inflicted, that was the word I'm looking for. Anyways, don't do that because you know what, and these children are gonna question everything about it and that equips you. That's one of the main things with my children. They fought against everything of what I was believing to be true in the word of God. And it equipped me to learn more about it. - Sharpened you. - It sharpened me. And they gave me questions where I was like, and that's a really good question. And then I questioned that word and then I learned it. And so they were teaching me to question the word and that's one of my big teachings is if you stop questioning the word of God,
you stop learning the word of God. And so don't ever think that if you're teaching you that because you don't know the word of God good enough, you can't teach your children. That's false, you are incorrect because you will learn together. - That's good. - Thank you. Yeah, so it's important. I'm gonna read nine again before we go to 10. The elder must hold firm to the trustworthy word as taught so that he may be able to give instruction in sound doctrine and also to rebuke those who contradicted. So you gotta know your word. Verse 10, it says, "For there are many who are insubordinate, empty talkers and deceivers, especially those of the circumcision party." Verse 10, "In the message for there's a lot of rebels out there full of loose, confusing and deceiving talk. Those who were brought up religious and ought to know better are the worst, they've got to shut up." So you gotta remember that everywhere Paul was traveling, these people that were following Judaism were coming behind Paul. And that's why he says they're the circumcision party and they thought that God was only for Israel and not for Gentiles and they were coming and basically saying, well, you can't go to heaven, you're a Gentile unless you do the things we do and follow the laws and this and that, whatever.
So, "But he calls them empty talkers and deceivers." And then he specially points out these Jewish leaders, those of the circumcision party. And like I said in the message, he calls them rebels and he calls them full of loose and confusing and deceiving talk. And again, you know, don't ever let somebody, don't ever let somebody make you believe that you don't have to know the word. And believe it or not, there are places of worship where they're like, hey man, it's all about speaking in tongues, it's all about feeling the spirit of God, it's all about a prophetic word, it's all about this and that, whatever. You can't leave the word out of it. The word is important, the word solidifies. The word is the sword. It is a double-edged sword. We can't do away with it, you know? And you can't, the word of God is what's gonna sustain you and that's important and unfortunately, (silence) And they left the church because I teach too much of the word. That doesn't even make sense. I know, right? That's like going to the gym. Yeah, these people work out too much. That doesn't make no sense. You know? So, in verse 11, he's talking about these people who are insubordinate, empty talkers, deceivers. In verse 11 says, they must be silenced since they are upsetting whole families by teaching for a shameful game what they ought not to teach. Which verse 11 says, they're disrupting entire families with their teaching
and offer the sake of a fast buck. One of their own prophets said at best, "The creams are liars from the womb barking dogs and lazy bellies." So, whoever these people are, whoever these false teachers are, whatever it is that they were doing, they were upsetting entire families. And they were teaching for a shameful game what they ought not to teach. They were doing it for themselves. And he mentioned straight up in verse 12, one of the creams, a prophet of their own, said, "Creens are always liars, evil beasts, and lazy gluttons." So, clearly, that this was happening in the time of Titus that Paul was writing a letter, and he's just basically saying, "Listen, I'm giving you responsibility to choose these leaders, but this is what they should be, and this is what they shouldn't be." And that's why he's going down this whole list. And I think this is important in the series of the life of following Jesus, because I think if we're all leaders, then we should be able to follow this list and pray for the things we lack at. I don't know. I've heard that before. I don't know. Abraham Rodriguez, the warrior cat. Thank you for the super cat. Yeah, I've heard that before. I don't know where that's from. Yeah. I believe that he's quoting a Greek book. I believe so. Let me see. If my footnote says that or not, no, it doesn't say. Yeah, it doesn't say. Yeah. Okay, where am I at? 14 or 13? 13? Well, 13 says, "This testimony is true. Therefore, rebuke them sharply that they may be sound in the faith, not devoting themselves to Jewish myths and the commands of people who turn away from the truth." 15, "To the pure, all things are pure, but to the defiled and unbelieving, nothing is pure, but both their minds and their consciences are defiled. They profess to know God, but they deny him by their works. They are detestable, disobedient, and unfit for any good work." I'm going to read that part in the message. It says about the creams. It says, "He certainly spoke the truth, get on them right away, stop that disease, talk of Jewish make-believe, and make-up rule so that they can recover a robust faith. Everything is clean to the clean-minded, and nothing is clean to the dirty-minded unbelievers. They leave their dirty fingerprints on every thought and act. They say they know God, but their actions speak louder than their words.
They're real creeps and disobedient, good for nothings." That's a message, Bible. You know, a lot of times when somebody should know that you're a believer of Christ, not by what you say, but what you do. You've got to let your walk be louder than your talk. Don't go around with the Christian shirt and you're just the rudest person in the store. kingdom than ourselves so we need to act accordingly and we need to be representatives of the Lord of Christ because he says people you profess to know God but you deny him by the things you do and and he says man if you if that's who you are then you're detestable and disobedient and unfit for any good work I mean I might be a lot of things but I don't want to be detestable and I don't want to be disobedient and I don't want to be unfit for the Lord so it goes on into chapter two Raven which when do you want huh surprise you well the Olympic cat thank you the Olympic cat all right so chapter two verse one we're gonna read and it says so now he's going back so after he said this whole list to Titus about what to look for in an elder now he's going to tell them something about himself he says but as for you now he's talking to Titus himself he's like listen this is how you choose a leader but now he was but as for you teach what accords with sound doctrine so I love that because he's now he's turning around say hey Titus you need to teach what's right you need to teach what sound verse two older men are to be sober minded oh so somebody here let's say you're sitting here reading this guys and you're just like well I'm not an elder I'm not a pastor I'm not nothing well if you're an older man and you're older to somebody so you're an older man and you know some of you like Ben if you think well it's not me I bet you've asked those youth if you're an old man they'll say you weren't he says older men are to be sober minded dignified self-controlled sound in faith in love and instead fastness wow sober minded can be high can be tipsy can be taken Vicodins on the under sober minded dignified to walk with dignity have respect for yourself self-controlled again it kind of the same thing as the other one and sound and faith in the message it says your job is to speak out on the things that make for solid doctrine guide older men into lives of temperance dignity and wisdom into healthy faith oh I love that
I love that healthy faith because sometimes you you not you churches unfortunately teach this I guess basically you know instead of believing in in the miracle the miracle maker you have faith in the miracle don't do that you have faith in the things you were blessed with and this and not in faith in the one that blesses there's a difference and unfortunately sometimes you'll have places that teach doctrines of blessing of abundance of finances what happens when you don't get those things you lose your faith because you had your faith on the things and not the one that gives it so when I read here it says sound faith it's faith in the Lord Lord if I am healthy or if I have a disease I have faith in you Lord if I am rich or if I lose my house I have faith in you Lord if I pastor big church or the church crumbles I still have faith in you sound faith if my family falls apart I still have faith in you that's sound faith it's also in the messages in a healthy faith in love and endurance - Thank you. [BLANK_AUDIO] lot but oh now we're going to the women so you guys aren't counted out oh they're women likewise are to be reverent in behavior in other words act right reverent in behavior not slanderers it's interesting that he doesn't say it to the men because women man you you women know how to tear somebody down if you really want to it's a gift in the message it says guide older women into lives of reverent so they end up as neither gossip snore drunks so it says be reverent in behavior not slanderers or slaves to too much wine they are to teach what is good and so train the young women to love their husbands and their children to do what to be self-controlled to be pure working at home kind submissive to their own husbands that the word of God may not be reviled I'm gonna read it in this message let's see but models instead of not drunks models of goodness by looking at them the younger women will know how to love their husbands and children be virtuous and pure keep a good house be good wives we don't want anyone looking down on God's message because of their behavior I think that's where it ended right yeah and again you know I mean you
got to remember he just rebuked all the men first because men how are you gonna have your wife do that if you ain't doing what's right unto the Lord you know cuz men we like to say oh you got to submit to me really okay are you submitted to God because if we're submitted unto the Lord that's different but if we want to just be the opposite let's say let's say the man is arrogant quick temper to drunkard he's violent he's greedy for gain he's not hospitable he doesn't love what's good he's not self-controlled he's not upright he's not holy he's not disciplined but then he's like oh you got to submit to me woman now it doesn't work that way God spoke to Adam first where we at verse six likewise urged the younger men to be self-control we got to teach this to the youth because they're just getting out of hand watch it's gonna turn into a circus as soon as this ends and that's got to stop you know where it stops mom and dad seriously they shouldn't be up to the ushers they shouldn't be up to the greeders sure should be up to me because I had to get one of the youth last week and that's not my place urge the younger men to be self-controlled you know how I know they can do it because I had to be self-controlled when I was young that's just you know you just had respect oh I acted up when I was around my cousin stuff but not around mom and dad and my uncles and my aunts and I'd know and then I'd get that look from my mom and if I was close there's this thing called the Pentecostal pinch and it's right here that needs to come back I give permission to Pentecostal pinch them I think you should still pinch him sometimes so I went to pinch him and he was like, "Don't pinch me, don't pinch me." (laughing) You don't see, so I never pinched anybody after that, but. (laughing) - One time, my niece, my parents had my niece and they went to food for less and my mom said, "I'm gonna get off real quick,
"this is a good 20 years ago." And she went to the store and my dad was in the car waiting with my niece, his granddaughter. And I think she wanted to go or something, but my mom was like, "No, I'm just gonna go in real quick." You know, kids, they go in and then they want a toy and candy in this man. She starts crying, having a fit. And my dad was like, "Mea, you gotta stop." She didn't. Somebody called the cops. That's the thing you know, the cops pull up. - Oh. - You know, and he's like, "Hey, there's something going on. "Somebody, there's a child here." And he's like, "Yeah, my granddaughter." And she got real scared. You know, and he goes, "Who's this, my grandpa?" What's wrong, somebody said you're crying. I wanna go in the store. He goes, "Do you want me to take your grandpa to jail?" No, she's always crying more. And the cop was like, "You can't do that." 'Cause next time I'm gonna take your grandpa to jail. That cured it right there. Yeah, that Pentecostal pinch, man. I still have nightmares about it. - That ain't nice. - Yeah. I preach because if not, my mom will get me.
Okay, what are we at? Oh, Marcello, which one do you want, brother? Let me know what you want. - JK. - Okay. Seriously, why are we? Seven? Okay. I wanna read the young men again. Likewise, urge the younger men to be self-controlled. Verse seven, show yourself in all respects to be a model of good works. And in your teaching, show integrity and dignity. Now eight, and sound speech that cannot be condemned so that an opponent may be put to shame, having nothing evil to say about us. In the message, it says this, but show them all this by doing it yourself, trustworthy in your teaching, your words solid and sane, that anyone who is dead set against us when he finds nothing weird or misguided might eventually come around. And actually in the message on the young men one, since I like that one, guide the young men to live disciplined lives. Nine, bond servants are to be submissive to their own masters in everything. They are to be well-pleasing, not argumentative, not pilfering, but showing all good faith so that in everything, they may adorn the doctrine
of God our savior. In the message, it says guide slaves, and we're gonna talk about that 'cause you're like, what? Guide slaves into being loyal workers, a bonus to their masters, no back talk, no petty thievery, then their good character will shine through their actions, adding luster to the teaching of our savior God. Okay, real quick, I think it needs to be said. A lot of us in America, when we hear verses like this, like the slave needs to listen to the master, we immediately think of the slave trade. This is 2000 years ago before that. The worst slave was a little bit different than what here in America think of slaves. So right now in our day and age right now, there's people that are in a low poverty level, and then there's middle class, and there's kind of high middle class, and then there's people that have more. The majority of us are probably middle class somewhere in there. There was no such thing as that back then, guys. There was no middle class. You were either in poverty, or you had money. You were rich. There was no middle class. Now think about this, if you had nothing, so you couldn't go put application. So you would basically sell yourself as a slave to somebody that had money. Why? Because the slave masters had rules on how they had to treat you too.
Because they couldn't mistreat you. Because again, we have these images of the horrible things that happened in the slave trade a few hundred years ago. The slave master had to provide housing, food. They basically became part of the family. Now the person that would do it say, "Man, I'm going to either be a beggar or I'll go to this rich person, sell myself as a slave, so then at least I have a bed and food to eat." So it's a different thing, you know, so again, when we read the Bible, we got to remember reading the Bible. This is the Middle Eastern book written 2,000 years ago and we can't look at it through the filter of America and what happened, the atrocities that happened during a slave trade, of course. It was horrible. It doesn't take away from that. So even here, God is saying, listen, if you are a slave, you're a bonus to your master. You're the one that you gave yourself up for slavery, so don't back talk. And just be a representative of God, we have good character. I mean, even, okay, good example, we read the story of Joseph. Joseph was basically made a slave, he sold as a slave, right? His brother threw him into a pit, he was sold as a slave. What did he do? He was over potter for his house and he gained favor. And then he was taken to prison, which is basically modern, to me, prisons are modern day slavery. He got favor in there too. Daniel, speaking of Daniel, the movie that's out now, Babylon came and took them as slaves. But they didn't throw them in dungeons, they didn't put them in chains, they were just enslaved to them, but they were treated right. Matter of fact, Daniel was told you can eat off the king's table and just be a good service.
So even Daniel was able to follow this, even though this was written way after Daniel, he was a bonus to his master, no back talk, no petty thievery, he had good character and eventually that character shined through, he had a good testimony. So we could probably apply that to today as character in the workplace, sometimes we may be working and of whatever job it is, it's like some people take things both, and it is kind of like a small fever, but to have the character always, because not that there are masters, but to respect them and not have a bad mouth or gossip or anything like that, so it got a good character at work as well. Yeah. Tina? In the slavery in the Bible, that after the seven years, if they didn't want to leave, then they gave them the mark and then they stayed as their slave. Like you said, it was because they became part of the family. They saw how good they had it, but because of that one word people miss out on that part of what those people didn't even want to leave their quote unquote slavery, they ended up raising their family with that family that owned up for, you know, it did everything. You know, another thing too, what sister, what you said is basically if you having nine to five job, you were a slave for eight hours. That's a form of slavery because back then you learned a trade. If you were a carpenter, you would treat your children to be carpenters and they would treat their children. So you had your own business. If you were a farmer, if you had whatever, you did a family business. But if you actually worked for somebody, that was slavery. So technically, if you're working a nine to five, you're a slave today. So it's kind of the same thing. Now, does that, you shouldn't talk back to your boss. You should be respectful. You shouldn't have a good testimony, but your boss has a certain way he has to treat you also.
There's laws. He has to give you a break every two hours. They have to give you a lunch. They have to, you know what I mean? So again, kind of the same, not the same, but the same, you know, to help us kind of understand the form of slavery that they're talking about here. Oh man, it's 808 already. Who are we? So I know we're... [BLANK_AUDIO] there is no Bible study next week, because the conference, everybody's going to be gone. Everybody that's, you know, most of the leadership is going. So no Bible study next week, and but yeah, we'll be back for Sunday service, obviously. So just mark that in your calendars next Wednesday, no Bible study. And make sure you go watch the book, the movie Daniel, take your children, have a conversation about it, open the Bible, read it with them, you know, and let it be a blessing, blesses you, blesses your family, it blesses, you know, people that are making Christian films, because I don't know about you, but I want more Christian films. I want more. I want more. I want, I want, I want Jesus talked about every day. So yeah, let's, let's bow our heads. Lord God, we thank you so much for this opportunity to read through your word. We thank you for, for the book of Titus. We thank you for the things that through the Holy Spirit that Paul was saying to Titus. So it gives us an insight. All right, here we are back at it again. My background is just a little bit different because I made a little bit of a move from one room to another. So yes, if you guys are wondering, background is just a little bit different, a lot of same stuff up there too. But anyway, we are back for this month's edition of Bible talk. Let's get into it. And of course, we'll always bring in my good friend from house arrest, church, woman, special diva Rocha. Hey, hey doing, sir. Good, good man. You make my wall look plain with all that stuff behind you. It takes, it takes a, it does take some work to you. I'm always late on this. All right, let me pass to David Rocha. It takes a little bit of work. But yeah, I, I put some post to appear of the magazine 10 for it's a trucker magazine, a
very popular trucker magazine. Yeah. And I took it off the wall from the other room. And I just kind of like pushed it right there. And I said like, Oh, wow, look, it's sticking and I start putting everything up. And I'm like, I forgot about it. Because I was really going to put new sticky stuff to the back onto. And I never did. And I kept on forgetting and I'm like, okay, it's, it's there. It's staying up. But my fear now is that one day I'm going to be live or something. And the suckers just get collapsed on here. But I'm like, you know what, I'm not going to mess with it. If it's staying, it's staying. So very good. Our podcast room, you know, I always find little things to put on the table or put in the walls. Yeah, yeah, I mean, the big, the big table you got that it must have been tough moving that sucker around. Yeah, I think it's heavy. Wow, man. Wow. We can't even get it upstairs. We had to take the legs off of it. I bet. I bet. How's life been faster? Good. Good. I just did a ride through 22 mile bike ride in Lake Tahoe with Sharon's brother, the one that just got out from 20 years. And man, it was probably the nicest ride. And that's saying a lot because I've done some nice bike rides with Elman's beautiful. But we got we got October coming. Yeah, we do. Yes, we do. So I got to get on them pedals. I I cycled once, but yeah, it's been a few weeks. It says, gosh, we've been going through this heat wave over here. It's just ridiculous. I don't need it to be nice and fair weather. But I just need to just to cool down just a few degrees. Yeah. So I can get out there and cycle. So so yeah, I'm gonna I'm gonna get out those pedals. I'll be ready to rock and roll. And now I have this challenge coming up at the end of September, one would be running upstairs. You're doing that again or a different building? Yeah. Yeah, yeah, I'm doing that again. So I'm excited. I'm excited for that. So you know, Pastor, I come across quite a few videos and quite a few people that have changed their life around. You know I changed my life around man You know I gave my life to God and you know They're they're very passionate and what they're saying and talking and it's like hey man, you know I should be overweight or I used to do this or I used to do drugs or I used to you know be on the streets Or I went to prison or I you know all kinds of things right and now they're fit. They're in great shape You know, they're they're all 10 it up and Man there as as they're saying they give their love to God and everything
There's a lot of colorful language coming out of their mouths You know, it's like and you got it, you know, you got a effing wake up, you know, I mean you got it You got be a mother effing beast, you know, and it's just like there's a lot of that language coming out and I just Huh Hey, I sit back and I trip by sometimes it does kind of motivate me a little bit But every time they're cussing and some of the some of the ones are like wow. It's really coming out, right? I mean, they sound like a true trucker I'm like, wow, I don't know a piece to do do you know in a motivational speech? I I kind of get it, but when they're throwing God in and he's like man I give my life to Jesus Christ 20 years ago. I was all effed up, man I was all I was down the mother effing gutter and it was ass and it was like I'm like, yeah It's confusing, right? Yeah, I yeah, I get like, okay, okay, man I you know, I think the message would have come off a little bit better If you if you kind of clean it up a little bit, so I'm here basically past you that to to ask you Well, when it comes to as always before we get into the subject What is your thoughts? When you hear somebody that says hey, you know what? I'm born again I'm a Christian man or woman, right? You know all that sort But you you hear their foul mouth, you know, they're not from what you see. They're not living a bad life You know, they're not doing anything wrong, but they they they tend to have a foul mouth Well, what's your first thoughts? My first thought is It's a lazy vocabulary Now this is aside from Christianity. I don't know I don't know if I've ever talked to you about this or not, but even in my sir dino days You will not hear me cuss one time in any song What? Yeah, I mean, I was talking about selling dope. I was talking about You know doing hits on people I was talking crazy. I Did not say one curse word
Because that is a lazy way of wrapping All right, just just in case anybody doesn't know Pastor David Rocha had a wrapping career back back in the day way back That's what he's referring to sir dino. He was yeah, I just throw that out there pastor because maybe there are some people Most people know you people from that, but I think there are some people that don't know that about you Yeah, and I've always saw that as a lazy way of vocabulary a lazy way of writing rap So anybody can drop the F word anywhere on a rap, you know, I mean and that's just a lazy way of communication You know, and and so even more so as a Christian Do I think that that guy's going to hell or whatever, you know, that's for God I don't I don't think so, but I think it leaves a bad testimony You know no matter what the way you talk the way you present yourself whether you're cussing or not in any given situation in an interview for a job You're gonna present yourself a certain way if you don't you're risking not getting that job And if we're gonna clean up our language in front of a judge in court If we're gonna clean up our language in front of a boss or possible boss in any of you, why would you not clean it up for God? You know, it's just a lazy way of communication to me Yeah, I I remember I remember I spoke with you quite a few years back and I had asked you I said, hey pastor, you know when I first got on YouTube. I Realize I was cussing up a storm. Yeah, maybe totally. Yeah, I didn't I didn't even really realize it, right? I was just like wow I would look back at myself. I'm like, what the heck is this man, you know, I'm like, you know You guess some dude. I'm talking about myself. Yeah, you know, you got some dude on their man over there and all kinds of things, right? I was making a point, but I guess I didn't like the way it was coming off. - Yeah. - I think what I saw was somebody who was still somewhat angry, which I was, but didn't know it at the time. That's one thing, Pastor, that's one thing. And I don't want to switch subjects here, but I think there's a lot of people that are angry, but don't know it.
I didn't know it, that will save that service for another day, but I had no idea I was angry or hurt. I was like, the heck are you talking about? I'm not angry, but I didn't know it at the time. But yeah, I look back and I'm like, wow. - Yeah, man, and I remember I talked to you about it, and I'm like, hey, Pastor, you know, I don't cuss anymore, especially on YouTube. Every now and then, if I'm gonna be truly honest, if I'm talking with a homie or something like that, every now and then, a word might still come out here and there, but nowhere near what once used to be. I definitely, it just, almost real though, it's starting to feel unnatural whenever I do it, and which is completely rare. And I'm with you, Pastor. I feel better. I don't know if that makes sense. It's strange because I feel so much better not using that language. - Yeah. - It does something for me mentally. It does something for me in my heart, not using that language. You know, once upon a time in my life, there is no day on the calendar that I would go without using that language, you know, who knows how many times. Now, I go just about almost every day without using that language.
And it's like, wow, you know, maybe not every single day, but very close to it. And I'm like, wow, I don't know. It just feels better, Pastor. So that's what we're gonna get into. We're gonna get into the power of words, profanity. And basically what the Bible tells us about it. I mean, I'll ask you right off the rip, Pastor. Power of words means what to you when God tells you about the power tongue. - Well, you know, when you hurt somebody verbally, that can last a lifetime. I've heard women say, I would rather my husband beat me than belittle me because the bruises will go away. But the words that he says will stay forever, scar you forever. You know, words are powerful. Whether it's to build somebody up or whether it's to tear somebody down. And you don't have to curse. So a lot of times the Bible says don't curse anyone. People think, oh, I shouldn't cuss them out. You can curse somebody without saying one cuss word. You know, if you could destroy somebody without even a cuss word. So profanity and cursing somebody are two different things completely, you know? But I think you're right is that words are powerful. I mean, you know what's crazy about it is the very fact that even the gospel of John chapter one verse one,
this isn't a beginning was the word and the word was God and the word was with us. So even in the beginning, it was words. I mean, think about it. The sun was made because God said, let there be light. He said it with words. - Right. - And think about this. So you're like, well, that's God. Well, God said, I'm going to make man in my image. So we have our emotions, we have our laughter. If we laugh, it's because God laughs. If we get angry, it's because God gets angry because we're made in his image. And the fact that his words were meant to create, that means he gave us words so we can create in a sense. We're not going to create a planet or nothing, but we create how we talk to our children, how we talk to our spouses, our friends, how we talk to each other. Are we going to build or are we going to tear down? You know, so I think that words are very powerful. You know, and whether there's profanity in it or not. - I, you know, I remember growing up and hearing, and you know what is funny because I just heard this in church. I remember hearing growing up is like, "Hey, sticks and stones will break my bones, but words can never hurt me." And I still do live by God. week before where the pastor of church was like hey you know what child is that's
not true right words can be very very damaging and I'm thinking to myself okay I still live by sticks and stones will break my bones but words can never hurt me to an extent I think it you need to dissect that a little bit see I think it depends who's words exactly is saying like you know somebody could get on the chat right here that I that we've never seen we've never met and they could say something about you and I it's like okay are we damaged you know I mean yeah right right right but if you hear that I said something behind your back or if I hear that pastor David bad mouth or something yeah I'm gonna take that to heart now now I'm a man you know you know pastor David was a good friend you know what you know you know be little me or say something be on my back like that you know so I think it's the power of words depending on whom it is right they have whether they have influence on us or not yeah yeah exactly because yeah the other day I was on a I was on let's just talk I don't know if you were on there that time but somebody went on there like two weeks ago and and I think they were trying to be funny you know and you know I've lost what I've lost like 97 pounds now okay you know and and when you lose weight you know this you can't control where you lose weight some people will lose weight in their face or they still have a big gut or they'll lose their gut but their face is still big or you can't you you can't control in what proportion you're losing weight you know me so somebody went on there and was like oh look at his arms are skinny now you know and I'm like so so what and it just made me it made me laugh right because I think I forgot who I was talking to that maybe it might have been angel and Tina after you know and I'm like what's and I think I flipped it on that person because then they quit saying anything because I said I said man that sounds a little rainbow-ish for you to be recognizing what another man looks like right right right you know and and everybody just kind of just clown back and I just kept it moving you know but it's like those you've got to have a thick skin first of all to be on YouTube you know and to be and for me to be behind a pulpit but you're right it's it's it's if my wife said something to me or my mom or dad or my brother or that's different man because they
can say words that'll just cut to the heart I mean it'll cut to the marrow of your bone you know and other people that have zero influence on my life they're not paying my bills they're not taking care of my kids they're not they can say what they want it doesn't matter to me yeah yeah I guess it's whoever whomever you let into your heart because I'm with you if it's if it's your spouse right and she says something terrible about you yeah man those words can be very damaging right man there's a person at the same time on the flip side that's the person that with words can actually uplift you you know exactly really high so it's because that's you let that person into your heart right wherever it's just you know somebody from the streets or some acquaintance or something like I don't care whatever man so I so I agree with it it just depends whom it is you're so I still I'm sure you like you just mentioned right being on YouTube or in social media or you're on the pulpit right you got a bunch of eyeballs on you I'm sure people have things to say whether under the breath or you might hear something the whole sticks and so it will break my bones kind of applies with that because it's like well I don't know any of these people or they're just I they're not in here quite like that where they can really bring me down if I'm on YouTube or or a social media platform as it would is to somebody that I've let into my heart like parents wife you know things of that sort you know kids things of that sort so I do have a Bible verse for two that I want to go okay that's the school of Old Testament Leviticus chapter 19 verse 12 okay says and you shall not swear by the name falsely Pastor, what does that verse mean to you there? I want to read it in amplified which gives a little more insight first It says you shall not swear and oath Falsely by my name so as to profane the name of your God. I am the Lord Remember how Jesus said let your yes be yes and your no be no Yeah, we're gonna get to that one. Yes. So when people say man. I didn't do it. I swear to God You know you see that on the cops You know, I swear to God that ain't my wallet, you know with a bunch of dope in it
I swear to God that you know, but it is theirs. Well by putting God's name into it It says here that they profane his name You know, so they're it says they're swearing and oath falsely by his name It does that go with You know using his name and fame like, you know saying like GD, right? Yeah, I don't think so. I always took you see I used to take it like that because the word swear was in there and where you know, we were raised Oh, don't swear don't swear in front of grandma Don't swear, you know, but in actuality the word swear is you're making an oath You know, so now what you're saying I don't believe that's right either, but this verse specifically is saying don't swear on God's name unless you're gonna do something Don't don't put God's name in it and it's a lie Because now you're you're making him like in an accomplice to your lie or to your falsehood. I Never heard the words swearing as Profanity till I became like an adult To me growing up when I was a kid I always heard it as cussing. Hey, don't cut No, no cussing. It was until later on in life like a no swearing. It's like, oh, okay, but you just broke it down right there Because I heard people say like hey, I be I'll be there. I swear Yeah Okay, you you'll be there you swear or let go. Yeah, maybe that means he's making an oath He's making a promise right right when he says I'll be there. I swear to God Uh-huh remember Jesus says let your yes be yes, and you know, no, don't don't put his name on it You know if you're not gonna do it. So right. Yes, the swearing is basically an oath It's not talking about cussing or derogatory language Okay, so but people go ahead and use it that way as they ate don't be swearing which it just in every day talk They're talking about don't use profanity. Yes But when the Bible says swear, it's talking about an oath God don't make an oath don't don't make a promise. You're not keeping be a man of your word basically Right, which is exactly where I want to go to pastor if we can go to Matthew You know, it's funny is it's real quick today right now. I told you I'll be on at 130
Right, but they hit like 1250 and I'm like man. We're not gonna get out of here So then that's when I text you and you said well, how about two and I said yes That's me giving my word So then I was getting late like 130 and I told Sharon and I said hey, I gave my word I was gonna be on the two that meant something to me, you know because We were supposed to be men of our word. I Already pushed it from 130 to two. So I was gonna make sure I was here by two So it's kind of what we're saying right to be a man of our word. Well, I was waiting in that text to say I'll be there at - I swear Yeah, no, I I get you and that that's kind of the verse the one that hit me the hardest here Is on a Matthew Look at Matthew verse 33 to 37 what chapter? Chapter five chapter five Okay Alright, so from 33 to 37 it goes Again, we have heard that it was said to those of old you shall not swear of calm Sleean, but shall perform the your oaths to the Lord something that you're just talking about passing our Verse 34, but I say to you do not swear at all neither by heaven for it is God's throne Nor by the earth for it is his footstool nor by Jerusalem Verse 36, "Nor shall you swear by your head because you cannot make one hair, white, or black." I would like you to break that one down, Pastor, but let's go to verse 37 and finish it off. But let your yes be yes and your no be no, or whatever is more than these is from the evil one. All right, there's a lot there, Pastor. - Yeah. - What do you think of it?
- But if you can see it goes back to the vows, it goes back to making an oath. Again, it's not talking about foul language at all. There's other verses I believe are fitting for foul language, but this is not one. This is more about just keeping your word. I mean, to simplify it, that's what the whole thing is saying. It says, "You shall not make false vows." And I'm reading the Amplified, the same one. "You shall not make vows, but you shall fulfill your vows to the Lord as a religious duty." So when you say something, be a man of your word, you know? And, but he says, "I say to you, do not make an oath at all, either by heaven or for it is a throne of God or by the earth, for it is the foot of his feet." So he just like, "Man, don't make a promise on heaven. Don't make a promise here. Don't say," in other words, even, I think a Bible goes even deeper instead of making an oath, just do it. - Right. - Just do it. You know what I mean? Just do what you're gonna do, and that's it, you know? And ultimately, that's the context of what he's saying here, you know? And it is funny here in 36, "Nor shall you make an oath by your head, for you're not able to make a single hair, white or black." So in other words, don't even make a promise on yourself
'cause you don't even know if you're, don't make a promise, say, "Man, I'm making oath. I'm gonna be their next Saturday." Well, you know what? You don't know if you're gonna live 'til next Saturday. - Hmm. - Right? - We have no idea. We can't do that, you know? So that's how I take verse 36, is you can't even make your hair white or black, much less, you know, how are you gonna make a promise on your own head? Or people say, "Man, I put that on my kids." You know what I'm like? (laughing) I put that on my mama, you know? Like... (laughing) - Right, right, yeah, yeah, yeah. Oh man, some people go deep, man. I put that on my dad, mom, like, "Wow." I mean, some people go pretty deep on all this. It's like, "Wow, okay, hey, I don't know how much you really want me to believe you. If you really want me to believe you, just do what you said you're gonna do." - Yeah. - You don't need to put it on anything. You know, just do what you said you're gonna do. You don't even put it on anything, just go do it. And boom, there, I believe you, because you did it, you know?
- You know what's funny is sometimes I watch those shows like, what's the last 48 or whatever, when they're trying to figure out a murder and... - Oh, right, yes. - Yeah, and they have a suspect, right? And a suspect's in there for a whole hour. They're talking to him for a whole hour, and then they ask him a question, and this is a dead giveaway. He'll be like, "Well, to be honest with you, so insinuating the whole hour, you weren't being honest." - Right, right, yeah. - Well, to be honest with you, you know what I'm saying? I'm just like, you just gave yourself up. You shouldn't have to say, to be honest, 'cause you should have been honest from the gate, you know? So it's funny when people say that in conversation, well, to be honest, man, you know, so everything you said before wasn't honest. I think sometimes people say that just, I guess, not thinking about what they're saying, but yeah, anyways, again, this whole passage is talking about vows and oaths, not language. - Right, well, what you said, that you just be yes and you know, be no, right, for sure. So, I mean, your words, pastor, language, right? I mean, there are so many languages in the world. Who determines what's a bad word? I mean, how is profanity even a thing? I mean, can I just make up a word and just say like,
oh man, this means something derogatory, 'cause I made it up and if it spreads around, now it's a new cuss word and God is gonna recognize it as profanity. - Yeah, exactly. I think that I don't think anybody's going to hell for it. I think that we create that. There's words we use now as derogatory that weren't derogatory at the time. - Right, I mean, once upon a time, you know, like gay, So yeah, I'm with you on that. - So yeah, I don't, so-- - Oh yeah, uses the word donkey in a different type of way in the Bible. - Okay. - But now people would consider that profanity, right? The way they would call a donkey back then. - I mean, growing up as a kid, some people say, "Hey, it's a curse word." I use the word damn. To me, that was never a curse word growing up. My mom was okay with it. Nobody, but I've come across a few people that have said, "Hey man, that's a bad word." I'm like, "Is it?" I don't know. I mean, I used to say G.D., which I never use that anymore. Yeah, no, you don't hear me use that anymore. - Some people think that word--
- But just the word alone, damn. I still go ahead and use it. And I'm like, "Man, I don't know, man." And then, you know, some people, "Is it just in the context?" Because the people use the word hell, right? It's in the Bible, but then some people will use it like, "Hey, what," you know, and it's like, "Okay, how are you using the profanity way?" And, you know, it's in the-- - But again, is hell a bad word? I don't think so. Now, I think there's profanity, and then there's words that probably don't sound right. I don't think it's profanity, though, you know? So even in Cali, you know, like, "Oh man, that's hella cool." - Right, yeah. - I don't say that, but I don't see it as a bad word, you know what I mean? But, I don't know. You know, there's, like, in the same thing you said, you know, right now, but-- - That is just words. - Okay, it's just words, but what would you make if there were somebody up in the pole pit, you know, and throwing some words like that? Oh, yeah, man, you know, you know, he's preaching, and he's like, "Hey," and it was hella cool, and stuff like that.
To me, it would, I don't know. - Yeah, I wouldn't do that. I don't, again, you're in a capacity to, okay, when you're behind the pole pit, it's about God's word. It's about having reverence for God, and I believe you can have reverence in the type of language you speak. Even if you've been slang, I might use slang here and there when I'm preaching because I'm joking around, but I'm not gonna preach and slang because I wanna be reverent to God. I'm up there giving God's word. It's, you know, so it's not something flippin'. It's not something that is nonchalant. This is God's word, so if we have reverence, if you wouldn't talk like that in front of a judge in court, again, why would you talk like that behind the pole pit? Why would you talk like that teaching a Bible study? Why would you talk like that with a Christian podcast or whatever? You wouldn't, you know, you want your language to not make you sound unintelligent. You don't wanna speak in a language or make you sound ignorant. You wanna speak in a language that people can take you serious, you know? So I think for all of those reasons is why we should have a bigger vocabulary and a bigger way to communicate our thoughts
and our feelings and our ideas. Again, I think it's just a lazy way, you know? You know how I'm a fan of? That cuss is a lot. David Doggett. - Okay, yeah, yeah, yeah. - I really like his story. I like his way of teaching, of perseverance, of pushing through. That guy cusses like, I don't know what. And he knows he cusses a lot, he knows, you know? And I think he just made a choice not to clean it up for whatever reason, you know? But that's the way the guy talks, you know what I mean? And unfortunately, I can't share one single clip of his on any of my social medias, even though he does some really great encouraging clips. But he drops F bombs like crazy. So I can't share his stuff, you know? I won't, I won't, I can, but I won't, you know? And that's all. - Man, you know, not you bring that up. Yeah, there is a... Sometimes, you know, somebody wants to share something that we're gonna do, like if all we're gonna do, the round table, or if we're gonna do a men rule the world, And then somebody goes and they put music behind it. And they, hey, look, I made it, why don't you, you know, go ahead and share it. But they put music behind it that has like a lot of cussing in there and everything. And it's just, and I just go, and I just, you know, I just give like a little thumbs up.
Like, hey, cool that you made that, you know, but I'm not going to go share it, man. You know what I mean? That's not a good. I appreciate you did that. But yeah, I'm not, I'm not going to go, I'm not going to go share that. No, yeah, I, I check out David Goggins every now and then, I would like at least to believe that maybe if you sit down one on one without the cameras on, without microphones on, that maybe you can have, you know, a conversation with them where he's not speaking that way. You know, we're not get around people and, and they're talking like that. It's not, it doesn't make me feel like, oh, man, you know, like I'm in a bad company. I mean, you and I grew up around that stuff all the time, right? So it's like, ah, you know, it's cool. But it doesn't really get to me where it's, you know, where I'm like, oh, man, I better get out of here or something. No, it's, it's fine. I'm just, I'm just throwing it out there that I feel just a heck, heck. See, I don't know. Is that, is that, uh, is that where they have a cuss word or not? I don't know if it is, I use it. I just feel a heck of a lot better pastor just not using that language. It just, it just feels good. It just feels good. So I, like I said, I see a lot of these guys and they're cutting up a storm like, like, you know, uh, Mr. Goggins there. Um, but some of these guys, they're, hey, man, I gave my life to God and it's, you know, he, he, he cleaned me up. Man, I, I feel F and better and everything. I'm like, okay. And they can be thinking like, okay, well, wait, why is it a bad word? Because we say it's a bad word. I mean, the English language didn't even exist.
Once upon a time, who determines what's a bad word? What is not it, or, or is it pastor pastor? Is it just this? Yeah, is it just like, yeah, God knows that language didn't exist. But he knows what those words are because as, as the word says, God knows your heart. And if you're using that language, you know, what's what's up with that. Do you find anything there, pastor? Well, I'm going to say this, uh, a couple of things. One is that the Bible says that if you, if something is a sin to you, then when you do it, it's a sin. Most people know they shouldn't talk that. Most people know that that language is not acceptable. You wouldn't say that language in front of children. You wouldn't say that language in front of a judge. You wouldn't say it. So you know what it is. So if you use it, that's a sin unto you. So that's one thing. Another thing I know we got to get going soon is Ephesians chapter 4 verse 29. Let me know when you have it. Oh, let me see. Ephesians 4 29. I just put my Bible away. Oh, I know we got a few minutes. So I wanted to share two verses with you. Got it. OK, go for it. Let no corrupt word proceed out of your mouth. But what is good for necessary edification that it may impart grace to the, to the, to the hearers. Yeah.
In the amplified, look what it says. It says, do not let unwholesome foul, profane, worthless, vulgar words ever come out of your mouth. But only such speech as is good for building up others, according to the need and the occasion, so that it will be a blessing to those who hear you speak. I mean, that's straightforward. That really amplified it. Yeah, that's wow. Yeah, and if you go to the book of James, that's the other one I wanted to get to. There's a little bit after that. I want to say James, what is it top of my head? I want to say James chapter three. Let's see if I'm right. Yeah. James chapter three. Verse. Let's see. There's a lot of it here. So let's see, let's start at verse eight, chapter three, verse eight. Okay, James, three, verse eight. Okay, I got it. Eight, nine and ten. Go ahead. But no man can tame the tongue. It is an unruly evil. And with it, we curse men who have been made in some similar to of God. Yeah, like similar. Yeah. Okay. Verse 10 as well. Yes. Out of the same mouth, proceed blessing and cursing my brethren, these things ought not to be so. You know what really stood up to me, Pastor? That's why I paused. It said with verse nine, we bless our God and father. Yeah. Is he talking about our father here on earth? No. Talking about the Lord. Okay. Yeah. With it, we bless our Lord, talking about Jesus and our Father in heaven. So. Okay. All right. That really stood out to me. Yeah. So, and I'm going to go ahead and read in the amplified. It says that no one, no one
contained in the human tongue. It is a restless evil, undisciplined, unstable, full of deadly poison. With it, we bless our Lord and father and with it, we curse men who have been made in the likeness of God out of the same mouth come both blessing and cursing. These things, my brothers, should not be this way for we have a moral obligation to speak in the manner that reflects our fear of God and profound respect of his precepts. So it's like, how are you going to bless God with the same mouth you curse in? Right. Right. So, those are the two verses that if somebody is going to bring up foul language or even vulgar language or dirty jokes or things like that, you can say a dirty joke without cussing, right? So that's vulgar. You know, how are you going to say that out of the same mouth that you worship God with? Hmm. Yeah. Okay. All right. I get you know, you just pointed that out. You can, you can be vulgar without saying one single what we look at as cuss words. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. You're right. Huh. Okay. I guess I just kind of go back to it's like, okay, well, how does anybody even identify cuss words and how did it even come to be? But, yeah, I would you, would you point it out earlier, Pastor? That's where I think, okay. Okay. I think I get it. So, Pastor, just kind of to wrap it up a little bit here. If you come across someone that is cussing up a storm, like you said, you don't think. I mean, nobody can go ahead and say like, hey, this person's going to hell. This person isn't. That's for God, right? But if you do come across somebody who says they're a brother in Christ and you do hear them, you know, using that language, what would you say to them, right? If they ask you, hey, you know, what I do still talk like this, you know, what's your thoughts about it? I'm hoping that they're a new Christian as learning. So, if they ask me or say something, I'll tell them. I'll say, you know, I'll probably show them these two verses that I showed you. I say, brother, you know, I mean, it doesn't, it's not a good look. The Bible says that we're ambassadors of Christ. That means we represent his kingdom. So, we need to be able to speak in a way that pleases God, you know. Now, once in a while, I'll come across somebody that is a Christian for a long time, and they're still talking like that. There's probably nothing I can say to that person. Their death said in their ways, and that's it. So really, I would say nothing to that person, but to the young Christian growing, I would show them these verses. I wouldn't necessarily tell them not to. I would just tell them, hey, can you read these scriptures out loud for me? What does this scripture mean to you? And hoping that the Holy Spirit will convict them, because who am I? I can't convict nobody. But if they are a self-proclaimed Christian, and they're reading what the
Bible says themselves, that should be enough to make them at least start to think differently. Got you. Okay. All right. Well, Pastor, another good conversation here, again, to those specific verses right there that you just pointed out. And I appreciate you jumping on and sharing this with me. Every time I feel like I learn a little bit more, and like I always say, the more I learn, the more I realize how much I don't know. That's for both of us. And we do have this bike ride coming. 18 point something miles and then we're gonna have lunch and then we're gonna go into our car and go to San Diego I hope you're gonna tell me you're not sure and I'll be there I'll be there okay and we're gonna go to San Diego and do the Silver Strand which is down we park in downtown San Diego take the ferry boat with our bikes and from Coronado go all the way down to was it Imperial I think and we're gonna have barbecue at the end and then make our way back so if somebody's interested get a hold of me or get a hold the cholo so far it's gonna be us and Luis which is my brother-in-law so far it's us three I'm not sure sometimes his sons come along to ride too so I'm not sure but if that's something you are wanting to do with us let us know right away so we can plan and get you on we're probably gonna create some kind of some type of group text so that way we can keep track of each other and up until that date yeah yeah looking looking forward to that and by the way by that time the weather would have been cooled down just a little bit yeah that will that'll definitely be good all right so that is my friend from House of Rest Church one Mr. Pastor David Rocha cholo trucker Bible talk we'll do it again next month all right God bless you
