(upbeat music) (upbeat music) (upbeat music) (upbeat music) (upbeat music) (upbeat music) (upbeat music) (upbeat music) (upbeat music) (upbeat music) (upbeat music) - With that pastor David allows me to be up here. So, pastor David, we thank you very much. I thank you very much for this honor and this opportunity. Let's get into some prayer. Lord, I thank you very much for this day, Lord, and I thank you very much for what you are doing. I thank you very much that you are moving. I thank you very much, Lord God, that I have breath in my lungs. Lord, there's a lot of complaints that I can give to you today. There's a lot of complaints I could give to you yesterday, and I can even think of some for tomorrow. But Lord God, I'd rather thank you, Lord Jesus, for the breath that I have today. You told me not to worry about tomorrow, but to focus on what is today.
Lord God, and to be able to keep, to take things captive and give them away to you, Lord. You know, pastor David always says that this is your pulpit, Lord. This is your stage that you speak the word from, Lord God, and I will say the same thing, Lord. It's your pulpit. Let me get out of your way, Lord Jesus, and use me as the conduit for what you need me to say, what I need to do. Lord, let obedience in my heart be there, Lord. Guide us, lead us, open up our ears, open up our hearts, ready to receive whatever is coming forth, Lord. In Jesus' name, amen. All right, so this is what we're getting into today. First Timothy, that's where pastor left off last week. Well, actually he didn't leave off last week. He was getting started this week with first Timothy. So we're gonna open up our Bibles to first Timothy chapter one. First Timothy chapter one. Okay, now I know pastor David has his book that goes ahead that he has picked up, I forget where it is, where you picked it up from, but explains a little bit about who wrote the book and about what the book is about. I have my own book that I'm very blessed. As a matter of fact, it's because of pastor David, I went out and found one and it just, it's been a blessing to me.
So author of the book of Timothy is Paul. So in case you guys didn't know that, Paul is writing a letter to Timothy. The audience of who he's writing it to is Timothy, Paul's spiritual son in faith. We'll get into that here in a bit. Super duper cats, that's right. The date of this was roughly around 62 to 63 A.D. So after Christ, right? The outline of this, the opening of chapter one, verse one through to ordering and organizing the church, administration and the public worship. You will see in part one in different verses, the ordering and the organizing of the church, dealing with false teaching and ministering to different groups in the church. And then the part two, and then there's a closing. This book is about, well, first and second Timothy 'cause there's two letters that he wrote to Timothy and Titus, that's another letter that he wrote, are called Pastorial Epistles, letters written by Paul for pastors and leaders to help them bring order to ordain pastors for the churches he planted. What's the purpose of this book? To reveal and emphasize glorious truths of God. Good relationships and spiritual growth can only come when the church grows in maturity. Did you hear that? Only when the church grows in maturity
and distinguishes truth from the church. false teachers oppose unorthodox doctrines and maintain his personal faith and warns against falling away qualification for the church leaders a helpful list there's all kinds of stuff in Timothy that and we'll get into that right now what it means to live in the household of God the proper treatment for widows and expectations for slaves and workers so that's just a brief summary of what this book is another thing that I wrote down was Timothy was an evangelist who converted to Christ from Paul so Timothy was saved you know went through salvation with Paul Timothy worked and Timothy's work and commission was the same as the apostles to plant churches and also to water the churches that had already been planted this was the first letter that Paul had written to Timothy of two of them as we will read this one Paul wrote from Macedonia and the second letter which is known as second Timothy that's when he wrote from he was locked up in prison so let's get started in 1st Timothy chapter 1 verse 1 and 2 it says I Paul this is out of oops I'm sorry David pastor David does the ESV 1st Paul an apostle of Christ Jesus commanded command of God our Savior and of Christ Jesus our hope to Timothy my true child in the faith grace mercy and peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord in the message it says I Paul an apostle on special assignment for Christ our living hope under God our Savior's command I'm writing this to you Timothy my son in the faith all the best from our God and Christ be yours I mean Paul is saying hello and what a significant way to say hello to somebody right he is basically writing a letter he's not basically he is writing a letter saying all the best from our God and may Christ be yours may you be led through Christ right so I wrote down how many of you whenever you say hello to anybody how many people actually say hello like this right so the other thing is to is that Timothy is looked at from Paul as his son in the faith because he's the one that brought him in to a walk with Christ and he is the one that led him in the teaching and mentorship of where Timothy will be going forward with so Paul took it upon himself and like it became a very you know father son
relationship and he made it very personal to him and when you read these letters to him to Timothy and to Titus you'll read when you put it when you read it like that you'll realize the personal father relationship that he was telling him the other thing is to is in these right here I remember many years ago when I was young in my faith and I was walking in on this a lot of men's groups would call Timothy and Titus the man book and they would call these these were for men men did you want to know what it is to be a man of Christ you read these books and then as I've matured in my faith I've learned that these two books right the first and second Timothy these are for God's children to grow in Christ and that's how we need to be able to read them let's get into verse three and four three and four all right as I urged you when I was going to Macedonia remain at Ephesus so that you may charge a certain person's not to teach any different doctrine nor to devote themselves to myths and endless genealogies which promote speculations rather than the stewardship from God that is by faith in the message it says on my way to the province of Macedonia I advise you to stay in Ephesus well I haven't changed my mind stay right there on top of things so that the teaching stays on track apparently some people have been introducing fantasy stories and fancy for instead of pulling the people back into the center deepening faith and obedience. So that's very, very good. That sound familiar of today's life? Anybody, somebody raise your hand and say something. Does that sound familiar to today's life? Of people teaching false doctorate? Yes? So it doesn't sound like too much has changed from the day that Timothy wrote this in just this one verse of today's life. Yes?
All right. So these are some of my notes. In the message version, it says stay right there on top of things so that the teaching stays on track. Paul made it very clear that he didn't want any other doctrine being taught to these people from what had already been told to them and didn't want them coming up with corruption of something that had already been given to them and that was through Christ. He says here, you may charge certain persons not to teach any different doctrine. So he wants Timothy, he's telling them to walk up to them and call them out on what they're doing. Calling anybody out is very difficult to do. For one, the people are already looking at you like you're, I guess arrogant would be the word to be used there, right? And then for you to be able to call somebody out, you need to be equipped for what you're gonna call them out with. You can't just year one, week one, day one, month one, you can't just walk up to a Jehovah Witness and call them out on their stuff. You know why, because those people know what they're talking about and they will probably convert you. I mean, that's just real. For me, I didn't go calling people out in year one. I went out and was telling everybody they were going to hell. I highly suggest that you don't do that either.
But the thing about it is that's what Paul is saying, stay on top of it so that way they don't start teaching false doctrine. Then what he says right here is the both them, nor for them to devote themselves into myths and endless genealogies. So nowadays, there's a group of people, I'm gonna try very, nope, I don't like that word, I'm gonna attempt very much so to not name off the certain groups of people I'm talking about in today, okay? If I do, so what, I'm just gonna attempt not to. The thing about it is there's a group of people out there that are teaching false doctrine. And then what they do is they find the genealogy that leads them back to Israelites. These people were born in San Jose, born and raised, moved to Modesto, and they've lived in Modesto in California their whole life. But yet when you ask them, they'll tell you that they're Israelites. Or there's people who have never been to Jerusalem, have no family tree ever whatsoever of any people from Jerusalem, but will consider themselves Jews. It's a false genealogy. Do I know if it's true or not? I'm gonna venture with saying yes. But the thing about it is it's like you don't need to worry and pay attention of your genealogy, leaning back to King David.
The big joke, my last name is, you know what, I didn't even introduce myself, I'm so sorry, I apologize. For those that do not know me, (laughs) my name is Tino. And I'm very honored for Pastor David for allowing me, no, I'm just kidding. So I already did that. So my name is Tino, my last name is Uriah's. The big joke with people with, not the big joke, I don't wanna say it's a big joke, but people always like to joke around with that my family name goes back to Uriah, right? And I'm like, okay, cool, that'd be cool if it did, I want my money, you know what I mean? For what, you know, what happened to Uriah's. So anyways, but that's just a thing. People come up with false genealogies and that's what he's telling them here, which promotes speculation rather than stewardship from the God that is by faith. Over here in the message it says, fancy stories and fancy full family trees that digress into silliness. Instead of pulling the people back into the center, deepening faith and obedience. Verse four, this is my notes, he didn't want them falling into false stories, made up of family lies that go back to made up genealogies. As ESV puts it, the message calls it silliness
is what these people will be falling into where is the ESV says stewardship from God. from God. your life. And don't devote yourself into myths. We can start making things up about ourselves. We can start making things up about what are not necessarily true. And we fall into it. And then we find a scripture to back something up. And then now we think it's all devoted into where we're going with it. Yes. I don't have a microphone. Yes. Yes. Yes. She's asking about the bloodline is genealogy like the bloodline. And then the example that she gave is that people are saying about how there's part of Abraham's seed. Yes. Yes. So we are saved, which puts us under the family tree of our father God. And that's where we're at. So your family tree, your bloodline goes to God. Get it? That's as far as the genealogy search that needs to happen. If you want to do more, hey, man, you're more than welcome. There's products out there for you to go and find out. I'm not saying don't do it. I'm saying don't make it up. That's what he was saying. They were doing. Why were they doing that? Because there was false teachers out there telling them, Oh, well, my genealogy leads back here. So then these people in their head, well, if the if these people, these higher ups, these high priest, these Pharisees, these Sadducees, all these other titled people, right? If they're having genealogy and bloodline going back to them, then where does mine go? And trust me, when I say I fell into that because then until somebody put me in my place and says, your bloodline goes back to God. He's the one that created you. He's the one that gave you life. He's the one that gives you breath. He is the one ever since then I stopped looking. I don't need to know anymore. What DNA do I carry? Jesus Christ. Period. That's my DNA. Want to check it? Here we go. You know what I mean? And that's how I feel. That's what it's going to be. Nothing's changing my mind, my heart or my effort. And I'm going to continue pushing forward with that. First five. Let's do a five and six. We're going to read five through seven. I'm so sorry. I apologize. Five through seven. ESV. The aim of our charge is love that issues from the peer of heart and a good conscience and a sincere faith. Certain persons by swerving from these have wandered away into vain discussion. Design verse seven, desiring to be teachers of the law without understanding either what they are saying or things about which they
make confident assertions. Over in the message version, it says the whole point of what we were urging is simply love. Love uncontaminated by self-interest and by counterfeit faith. A life open to God. Those who fail to keep to this point soon wander off into dead ends of gossip. They set themselves up as experts on religious issues, but haven't the remotest idea of what they are holding forth with such imposing eloquence. Okay. Let's go through the notes real quick before I get to rambling. Okay. So, look at exactly what it says here. I guess I'm not reading off my notes. We're going to do it this way. The aim of our charge is love. The message says the whole point of what we're urging is simply love. A love uncontaminated by self-interest. A love uncontaminated. Meaning that you are coming, he wants Timothy to go at the people of Ephesus with love that is only of Jesus himself. Not of Paul, not of Timothy. No self-interest. So, whenever this is, okay, I'm going to give you the example. If I go out there, and I'm saying look at the love that I'm showing everybody right now I'm loving these people the way that Jesus loved everybody there is that a love of Christ or is that a love of self-interest? Why is it a love of self-interest? Why I Want to make sure that you see me doing something right? Whether these people get a benefit or not good for them They will be fed. They will be clothed They will whatever it is that they need good that the work is being done But I took away the love of Christ from me not them Because I made it about Tino It's an uncontaminated self-love. Oh, I would like this version better. Oh No, I'd like this one over here by self-interest a counterfeit faith Now, let's be real Okay, I don't want a show of hands, but I do want you to really think about this has anybody ever walked around with a counterfeit faith I Know I have well. Thank you very much for raising your hands I didn't even ask for it. But anyways, I know that I have my faith was counterfeit as can be I Affected it. I knew exactly what it was I was the blessed and highly favored person that you would see every day and then be drunk two three hours later Counterfeit faith. I knew the lingo. I knew how to be able to pray
I knew what would make you I would hear something and then I would pray about that and I would sound prophetic. Yes, Dale Hold on real quick What I want you to say again is how do you obtain this love and a pure heart and faith? I believe you have to repent and come to Jesus Christ and be washed in his blood Be sincere about it Because this is not a game Okay, and that's why I want to bring that out because a lot of you say about we got to walk in love and all that But it's important to know how do you get that love? Because I speak in tongues, but if I don't have the love Mike tongue so sound anything to God Well, I have to have his love for my speaking to him in my gift of tongues You know, so what I'm saying is it's really important. That's John 3 16 Come to Jesus, you know and repent because a lot of people they don't bring that out anymore You have to repent of your sins and come to him and he will forgive you You know, I say the Lord's prayer every morning I'm a big cry baby. Yeah, I am. I knew I have yes, okay Thank you So they'll is saying how do you get it, right? It is by Christ and by Christ himself It is by walking with him with a pure heart see the understanding is knowing salvation is What you're gonna be able to receive the day that you surrender yourself The growth in salvation is by changing your life 180 Right a lot of people are like, oh, let's go 360. I don't want to go 360 I don't that puts me right back to where I started I want to do that man. I was all messed up right there, but the love of Christ is Where the pure heart that's why for example is in the book of Samuel? He says There's no way that it could be him Look at how little he is
And he says for you for I For you look at the outside appearance and I look at the heart You could be strong in the heart when it comes to Christ But you can be the smallest guy for me. It was like Okay, this is this is Tina's vision. Okay. This is this is the what I think of when I read about Oh my god, I just brain farted on his name. What's the guy with the hair? Samson Samson. So when I read about Samson, I don't think of Samson being some strong big 6 foot 8 290 just buffed out. I don't see I don't think of that. I see Samson as like a buck 20 soaking wet with long dreads No muscles. No nothing that he can take this guy that's 120 soaking wet and do what he did. And if you know about the book of Samson, you'd understand where I'm going with it. That's my vision. Do I know that's true? No, as far as my knowledge, he doesn't give any description of how big he was. He just, his strength is what he talked about. So, but it was a counterfeit faith, a life open to God, those who fail to keep this point soon wander off in the deep ends of gossip. It says over here, verse six, certain persons by swerving from these have wandered away into vain discussion. Into vain discussion. I said in my notes, where am I at?
Then right after verse five, he lets you know when it's not that way of a pure heart, good conscience and sincere faith. These people wander off into a gossip and that's when they start getting into those type of discussions. Verse seven says, God, where am I at? Verse seven says, "Deziring to be teachers of the law without understanding, "either what they are saying or the things "about which they make confident assortions." I said, "Those same people in the gossip discussions "are the ones that will start talking about the law "and what you're supposed to follow under Moses's law." And they start making themselves people who they really are not. They are people who do no reading and let other people tell them what they should think. They're people who read about what was at one time. They want them following around in ways that will be, they're manipulating the law for you to follow the way they want you to follow. Does that sound familiar of life today? Yes? So the thing about it is, who are some of these people today? These are some of those people who take materials and they make them idols and they make them something that have no significance.
And then they find a scripture in the words. See, this is what a lot of these different type of people would do. These doctrine maker uppers. I don't even know if that's a word, but you get what I'm saying. And the thing about it is is that what they do is they take these things and they hold it up and they say, "This container was the container "that Christ poured the wine from." And then they find a scripture in the Bible and then they make this an idol and then they make this a religion and then they make this a doctrine. And then they make this whatever it is, they wanna make it. And if you don't do any reading for yourself, then you believe because they have elegant speaking. Elegance speaking is mentioned in Revelation. And the thing about it is, is that these people can talk you out of anything because you don't read. See, these people that are even saying what they're saying, they don't even know what they're talking about, they're just coming up with it. Salesmen. I'm a salesman, but I'm telling, I'm reading all reading out of the words, so I'm telling you exactly what's in here. Do you wanna say something with that microphone? Do you have a question?
Okay, so anyways, verse seven, that's, so it says right here that they don't, in the message, it says they don't have the remotest idea of what they're holding forth such imposing eloquence. That's through the message in verse seven, which they make confident assertions. They speak with such eloquence. And unfortunately, the people over here that if they were speaking with such eloquence, they immediately started listening. They immediately started drifting towards them. They immediately started getting manipulated because these people can speak in languages that they couldn't, meaning the words they were using and the different ways that they were speaking, maybe they put on an attire so that way they can walk around and you would look at them. You get what I'm saying? So that's what was going on here. So, yes, Dale. That's you, Mickey. - Let me hear it down. - Oh. (indistinct chatter) - Well, I'm glad that Theo was bringing this out 'cause this is really important. 'Cause right now, we're living in the last days and there's gonna be a lot of false prophets out there
You got the internet, TV, all these people coming out. India alone has over 3,000 false religions. And when the Antichrist shows up, he's going to be slick. They got this AI. You know, the beast is going to be talking like an AI. So you really got to be careful. Stick with Jesus as close as you can, you know? And when you tell my experiences, when you tell somebody about the gospel, just stay with the cross. Just give them the cross. But Jesus, it won't go your way. Let the Holy Spirit do the threats. Because what they're going to do, you mentioned Joel Windes, I call him Satan Windeses. And just go your way, let the Holy Spirit, because all they're going to do is argue with you. They're going to do this and that and that and that. When you stay with the cross, you can't argue with the cross. Either you're going to accept Jesus or not. Thank you. I like the word imposing, because it kind of means the word. Very good. Say that on the mic. Can you repeat that, please? It wants to. I said I like the fact that the message says the word imposing, because imposing typically means like forced or put upon someone in a negative way. That's very, very good.
I wanted to say the beginning of verse five again. It says in the message, it says the whole point of what we're urging is simply love. Now, I talk about these, about the different type of people, because when I was young in the faith, I was reading my words so I can go and what's that word I use? Debate. I didn't read the word to learn it. I've read it to strictly debate with Mormons, Hebrew, Israelites, whatever ones are around, with Jehovah Witnesses, and I used to do that to prove them wrong, so I could feel good that I was proving them wrong. Like I tell you, it's not a joke. I would literally, you can ask my wife if you don't believe me. Everybody doesn't really believe me, but they believe my wife. But the thing about it is, they'll say amen to that. So the thing about it is is I would argue with them and debate with them. Until I really wish I could tell you when it happened, but eventually what I started realizing I didn't want them, I didn't want my point to get across. I wanted them to really know who Jesus Christ was. So when Paul is telling Timothy what we are doing in Ephesus is simply teaching the love of Jesus, that's all I want to do. So nowadays, when I do talk to these people, they stopped coming around me after a while. Yes. I just wanted to add something. When he would come home, he'd be searching in his Bible and he would have all this anger and say,
they're so wrong, they're so wrong. I'm going to tell him this and I'm going to tell him that. And I just would look at him and tell him, you are not going to win them over by approaching them like that. He was so angry and so mad and would have so forceful. I didn't want to win them over. When you're not doing this for the love, and I'll speak from experience, when you are not doing this for the love of Jesus, you don't care about their salvation, you don't. You have no concern about the book of life. You have no concern about what they're going to be burning in. And that's what's sad. But I'm very, very grateful to God that he showed me that. And so in my life today, when I do talk about them, we can have a civil conversation. I'm not trying to convince you, but we can simply talk about your word. The greatest thing that I did was read their word. And I learned what they're thinking. So then I know my word. I don't know it as well as Pastor David, but I stopped with all the comparison. I teach what I know. And as long as God gives me the opportunity, I will do this until he takes me home. And so the thing about it is because your salvation is very, very important to me. It's very important that your name is in the book of life. I talk about a line for people to be walking in,
and that's what's important to me. That's when he's saying a peer heart over here in the ESV version. When he's talking about the peer heart, a good conscience, and sincere faith, we're not going to talk about this. We can go ahead, we can have a wonderful conversation, but it all ends up with, you know what? You need to die to self, and you need to pick up a cross. If I'm once to say that if you follow the words in red, you'll make it in. You'll make it in. Let's get into verse eight. We're gonna try to do verse eight through 11. In the ESV, now we know that the law is good. If one uses it lawfully, understanding this, that the law is not laid down for the just, but for the lawless and disobedient, for the ungodly and the sinners, for the unholy and profane, for those who strike their fathers and mothers for murderers, the sexually immoral men who practice homosexuality in slavers, liars, purgers, and whatever else is contrary to the sound doctrine. In accordance the gospel of the glory, in accordance with the gospel of the glory of the blessed God with which I have been entrusted. Over here it says, it's true that moral guidance and counsel need to be given, but the way you say it and to whom you say it are as important as what you say. It's obvious, isn't it?
That the law code isn't primarily for people who live responsibly, but for the irresponsible, who defy all authority, writing roughshod over God, life, sex, truth, whatever. They are cynical toward this great message I've been put in charge of by this great God. Okay, where am I at? My note says, we know that the law is not for those that obey, but for those that disobey. Yes, we all agree on that? Whether it be Moses' law or the law you live in today, we agree that it is for the people who disobey it. Yes? Okay, so then in verse nine, it starts to let us know. This that the law is not laid down for the just, but for the lawless and disobedient. Okay, let me see here. For the lawless and disobedient, for the ungodly and the sinners, ,we need to understand that we ourselves, just caught that. So whenever we're looking at the law that they're talking about, we need to understand that we ourselves cannot match up to what was going on with them. We can't sacrifice anything. We can't get righteous right with God through Moses' law. We can't, we're the sinners that he's talking about.
We were the sinners. You need to say something, Dale? Absolutely, yeah, one moment. Dale says that we are redeemed from the curse of the law. So the thing about it is it's right here and it says for the ungodly and the sinners. Do you guys remember being ungodly? Do you guys remember the moments in life and the way that you thought when you were ungodly? Do you remember the times when you were thinking as a sinner? So the thing about it is what keeps rolling in my head is that I'm not so much a sinner. Do I sin daily? But the intentional, intentionality, is that how you say it? The intentional part of sinning isn't what I do anymore. I really put a lot of effort into not sinning but unfortunately because of my humanness, I sin without even knowing it. Now I'm a man, it's very, very simple to give you an example of sinning but it's just the eyes. It's the eyes that my eyes can lead me into my mind and my mind can start to wonder and then I can see something different or when we really think about it and we read the words in red and we talk about sin, Let me go to over here. It talks about no, oh here we go.
It talks about the sinners for the unholy and the profane, for those who strike their fathers and their mothers for murderers. What does Jesus say as murder? Somebody please. If you hate your brother, if you hate your brother, if you have hate towards your brother. See, that is crazy. And I'm reading this right here and it says, that's what the law was for. This is talking about physical murderers, okay? This is talking, Moses was talking about people who murdered other people for things that they stole and different things, they even built an island for these people who accidentally killed somebody. So if they were riding a donkey and the donkey walked over them and killed them, that was an accident 'cause they weren't paying attention, they had a place that they can go. There's a whole, whole lot in that. But the law represented a lot of what goes on in the New Testament and that's where a lot of people, when he's saying that they're making up and they're confident in their assertion, they're imposing eloquence. They don't know what they're talking about. But this is for the unholy and the profane. I went ahead and wrote down profane. These words, I don't know if I really paid attention to showing disrespect, contempt in reverence,
in reverence, however, toward God. Religion and sacred things are using crude, obscene and vulgar language. Anybody ever done that? That's what the law was for. Another thing is too is the profane and those who strike their fathers and their mothers for the murderers, the sexually moral. Did I write that down? The sexually immoral are fornicators, basically sex out of wedlock. Men who practice homosexuality. Do we really need to get into? Do I need to explain what that means? I don't think so. Okay, cool, very good. In slavers, what did I write down for that one? I didn't write anything. These are people who treated their workers very bad and treated them slaves, beat them and whoop them and did the things that they were doing. That's what the law was for. Liars, purgers, liars are a person who tells lies does not speak truth and intentionally communicates false information. Purgers is a person who intentionally lies and gives false testimony. This is what the law was for. And whatever else is contrary to sound doctrine. So the thing about it is, is what's the sound doctrine?
The sound doctrine in what he's saying here is Jesus Christ going forward. The sound doctrine was for us to understand what was going on from Moses all the way to Jesus. The forgiveness of sins, the salvation going forward, being able to raise a church on Jesus Christ himself, right? We wanna be able to allow his salvation, his cross, his raising of the grave. That's all Paul wanted to teach. That's the sound doctrine. If we learn anything else, if you don't learn anything else, how do you think your faith would be in Christ? There's a saying that I say that says, if he never blesses me again, I will still continue to follow him. Would you agree on that, Pastor El? If he never gives you another blessing from this day forward, would you still follow Christ? It's a question that needs to be asked. Now grateful and so thankful to God that obedience as long as we stay going forward and moving with obedience to God, he will continue to bless us because that's what he does because he's almighty, loving. He's our father, man. He's our father. Who in here is parents? One moment.
Who in here is parents? So you know what it is to want to give to your children. We wanna be able to do that. And we wanna do it with a peer heart, a good conscience and all sincere faith. Yes, go ahead. - I appreciate coming here 'cause last day we were always sharing the good news of the open door for salvation, the blood that was shed at Calvary. And you see it in the days we're living in now has become not focused to, when Jesus came, it was only supposed to be for his own people. no longer Jews, Gentiles, Greeks, or slaves, we're all one in Christ, and knowing my history of sin coming out of like, I would look at myself, I would fit in the Gentile. What did I Lord? And it really opened my eyes to see how privileged it is to have that door open for salvation. Because now you just hear, oh, Jesus is not a genie in the lamp, let's, what can we get? Blessing, blessing, blessing, like, it reminds me in the Bible when you're, when he says someone will just come for the fishes and the loaves, and I think they're getting away from the cross. The places are getting away from the cross, and I'm thankful we're still, they're still talking about the bloodshed on the cross. Absolutely. Without the blood, I'm never clean. I mean, I believe it's, it says that the blood washed me white, right? There's a song that talks about your, your blood that's red washed me white, white is snow, right? And so I mean, that's, it's, it's phenomenal, it's, it's the blood shed on the tree.
It's the blood shed on the tree that's everything. Verse 12 through 14, I thank him who has given me strength, Christ Jesus our Lord, because he judged me faithful, appointing me to do his service. Though formerly I was a blasphemer persecutor and an insolent opponent, but I received mercy because I had acted ignorantly in unbelief. And the grace of the Lord overflowed, overflowed for me with the faith and the love that are in Christ Jesus. Verse 12 through 14 in the message, I am so grateful to Christ Jesus for making me adequate, excuse me, to do his work, to do this work. He went out on a limb, you know, entrust in me with this ministry. The only credentials I brought to it were violence, witch hunts and arrogance. But I was treated mercifully because I didn't know what I was doing, didn't know who I was doing it against. Grace mixed with faith, faith and love poured over me and into me and all because of Jesus. Amen to that, yes? Verse 13, I mean 12, I wrote down how much more plain and simple can we say it. I thank him who has given me strength. Christ Jesus our Lord because he judged me faithful, appointing me to his service. I thank Jesus for giving me strength because he judged me faithful and has appointed me to his service. We have to really take that into consideration and make that a life verse. You need to, we need to, I don't like to say this, I promise I don't. You can ask my wife again. I don't like to tell people what they need, but this is different. We need to take this verse 12, 1 Timothy, chapter 1, verse 12 and say this daily. In any version and we need to be able to say, I thank you, Jesus, for giving me the strength and being my Lord because you judged me faithful and appointed me to his service. Now let me tell you this, if you have truly given yourself over to Christ, Jesus himself truly in your heart, you have been appointed to his service just because you don't have a microphone or a stage or a pulpit, doesn't mean you can't do the service of Jesus himself.
If you thank him for what he has given you, he will use you with the strength. What is the strength of the Lord? That's a question, somebody answered. It says joy is the strength of the Lord. Joy is... Is that what you said? Is that what he said? I mean, I don't believe him because he didn't answer on the microphone, so... He doesn't get it, Ben. I'm sorry. Ben didn't say it, didn't get the answer. Nobody got the answer wrong. You're all wrong. Okay, yeah. So anyways, joy is the strength of the Lord. So, when you thank him, joy will be filled up in your heart, which gives you strength. You know what? One of the things that I pray is, Lord, please let me be at my weakest so you can be at your strongest. Because when I'm weak, he's strong. He tells us that. He will lift me up. He will strengthen me. And by the joy that he gives me in my heart, I was just talking to a young man yesterday, and I was asking him the difference between happiness and joy, okay? And in case you don't know, happiness comes... Being happy comes from happenings. Something needs to happen for you to be happy. See what I'm saying? Happiness makes you happy. Joy only comes from Jesus Christ. There is no other place you can go ahead and get it from. Only Jesus. Jesus gives a happy heart. That's what he says. And I mean, he's not wrong according to Scripture, right? Joy only comes from the Lord. And so the thing about it is, is that when you have joy that comes from the Lord, He has given you this strength. He has judged you faithfully and appointed you to His service. This is something that I believe that we need on a daily basis to be able to say this. Yes, go ahead. I just have this in my notes, and I was looking over my notebook here, and I just wanted to share it. It's 1 Peter 1 8. Though now you do not see him yet, believing you rejoice with joy, inexpressible, and full of glory. An inexpressible joy is a feeling of profound happiness, so overwhelming that it cannot be adequately described with words. It is a joy that is speechless, all-consuming, and defies human expression. Extremely well. Thank you. Verse 13, though formally He appointed me to His service, though formally I was a blasphemer, persecutor, and an insolent opponent. I wrote down here in my notes, I said, ask anybody, have you ever been a blasphemer? Anybody ever in here blasphemed? All right, thank you for your honesty. Has anybody in here been a persecutor? Has anybody been a rival, an insolent opponent?
I think that's how you say it, an insolent opponent, a rival? Or at least I wrote down, at least tried to be a rival towards God, right? The message says he didn't know who he was doing it too, and that was me as well. I remember I was 17 years old. I supposedly found Christ. I accepted Him as my Lord and Savior. I don't know if it was real or not. I'm not very open about my life. But then what ended up happening is the person that was running that church ended up taking all the money and the donations and so on. And the thing about it was, is it really turned me away from God. But I don't know why it turned me away from God because I didn't even really know what was going on at that time. But I said some pretty off-the-wall things about God at that time of my life for many, many of years. And I've repented from that, asked forgiveness, and God is absolutely amazing. And the thing about it is, is like, I know what that is. And the thing about it is, is I really didn't even understand who I was doing it too. I remember we told this story earlier today, is I remember when my wife was wanting to go back to church and I told her, I said, why are we going to waste our time? God doesn't work. It doesn't work for people like me and you. You're too screwed up for him to help you. That's what I told her. And so the thing about it was, is that we ended up there anyways. And, you know, so many years later, here we are. I've been the blasphemer. I've been the persecutor. I've been the wannabe rival. I just didn't know who I was doing it too. And I've repented for those people that I made go astray. I pray for those people that they found their way back to Christ and that they were able to continue going forward. But I received mercy because I had acted ignorantly in unbelief. That's what Paul says. The grace of the Lord overflowed with me with Christ Jesus, I'm sorry, overflowed for me with the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus. Verse 15, okay, we're probably going to finish up here. Verse 15, "The saying is trustworthy and deserving of full acceptance that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am foremost." But I received mercy for this reason that in me as the foremost Jesus Christ might display
his perfect patience as an example to those, excuse me, example to those who were to believe in him for eternal life, to the king of ages immortal and visible, the only God be honor and glory for ever and ever, amen. Here's the word you can take to heart and depend on. Jesus Christ came into the world to save sinners. I'm proof. Public sinner number one of someone who could never have made it apart from sheer mercy. And now he shows me off evidence of his endless patience to those who are right on the edge of trusting him forever. Deep honor and bright glory to the king of all time, one God immortal and visible ever and always. Oh, yes. I love this because he starts it off in verse 15. These are trustworthy, no matter these, what does it say? The saying is trustworthy and deserving of full acceptance that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners. That's every one of us here. That's that's every one of us that is online. That is every one of us who is searching. That is every one of us, excuse me, who you are able to help. That's who he came for. You're the special one. You're the one. You know how we love to sing that song about the 99, right? And you love to hear about how he goes after the one. You're the one, man. Yes, I just want to bring this out. How many people remember the upper room were 120 when God poured out his Holy Spirit to the 120 in the upper room? Yes.
Well, the reason I want to bring this out because we live in a day. People are talking about immigrants and illegal immigrants and different people with different nationalities. Well, I want to bring this out, you know, what are we supposed to be? We're supposed to come with a gospel no matter who they are. And in the upper room, 120, they were all from different countries. Go ahead and read it for yourself. They were all different. They're all immigrants from different countries in the land of Israel. And I thought that fascinating. So what we're supposed to do is no matter who they are, tell them about Jesus. This one guy came to me. His name was Robert, man. He says, you know, Dale, I don't know why he told me this. I was at the gym. He said, you know, Dale, my name is Robert, man, I'm a illegal alien. I started thinking, I said, you know what? No, you're not. You're a man created by God for God, man. That's who you are. I don't like people. I'm a big nom vet. I don't like people putting labels on me like they did when I was a big nom. They call me all kinds of names, you know, just because of my nationality. I'm actually Italian, but anyway, they call me beater anyway, but anyway, you know, but you know what, man? Don't put labels on people, don't judge people, man. They're God's creation. Look at them like God looks at them. They're people.
Yeah. They disappoint you, yeah, all the time. But you know what, show them the love of God, tell them about Jesus. Thank you, Tina, for doing such a good job, bringing a lot of stuff out there, just God lays on my heart. I just have to say, he's about a lot of stuff, brother. Amen. Amen. Thank you. [BLANK_AUDIO] He's saying himself that he's the number one man that needed to be saved. I received the mercy for this reason that in me as the foremost as the number one God showed his mercy Jesus Christ might display his perfect patience as an example to those who were to believe in him for eternal life. Let me ask you guys this have you guys ever said that if Jesus Christ can save me he can save anybody has anybody ever said that yes I know I've said that many of times and then he ends it off like this at this moment to the king of ages immortal invisible the only god be honor and glory forever and ever amen 18 19 and 20 I'm just going to read this real quick so we pastor David could start off chapter two this charge I entrust to you Timothy my child in accordance with the prophecies previously made about you he's telling Timothy at this moment you know what I'm putting you here because of the prophecies that were given to you so I'm being obedient to God and I'm allowing you to move forward with this with my teachings that I've given you and the equip of what you walk in that they may that by them they may wage a good warfare holding faith and good conscious by rejecting this some have made their ship wreck of their faith he's saying about what does it say over here it says all those prayers are coming together so you will do this well fearless and in your struggle keeping a firm grip on your faith and on yourself after all this fight we're in that some of these people let go of their faith they're moving forward they're doing good they're allowing God to take them over their faith is leading them forward it's taking them over to places that they typically wouldn't be but the thing about it is they started letting go of the grip so a lot of people what happens is you start to elevate and you start to make it more about yourself and you make a ship
wreck is what he called it of their faith among whom Hymenaeus and Alexander who I have handed over to Satan that they may learn not to blaspheme we need to be very very careful of what we are doing who we are talking to things that we are saying to people and you know what whenever you are doing this remember it's not about you being elevated but Christ himself make sure that everything that you say when you are doing God's work that you are giving God the credit and not yourself I don't sit here I want to be able to make sure that God gets the glory it's his story that I am telling I like to freestyle a lot and I like to make up flows and do my thing I like to play around in the car Laudedada and I like to say that I make history by telling his story and that's how exactly how it goes it's his story that I need to be telling not mine it mine doesn't matter my testimony only leads to his story his cross his salvation what he's done for me what he has given to me his raising of the and defeating the grave it doesn't matter about what I've been through it does not matter how I feel but I want you to know who he is in your life so you can understand how he is moving for you God woke you up today for a purpose and you are a blessing to this world don't look at yourself any other way if you are fortunate enough to wake up tomorrow remember that when you look at yourself in the mirror you are a blessing to the people you will be around don't tell yourself anything less than that because God has given you breath which means he gave you purpose amen this worldwide welcome home all right how's everyone doing good to see you get to see everybody here on this Wednesday night and well let's actually let's hit our heads in prayer first Lord God we thank you for this opportunity to be here together we give you all honor and our glory we just thank you for this week Lord God and in getting us through this first half half of the week Lord God and we know you're going to be with us for the second half of the week bless everyone that's here those that are watching on their screens we thank you in Jesus name amen all right so if you weren't here on Sunday and if you are a pin holder for your pin holder meaning that you did the six discipleship classes I want to let you know that on November 21st we're going to have our first annual pin holder meeting for all of those if somebody doesn't have their pin well you're out of luck not just playing so that meeting because let me well first let me back up what is that meeting about. Every year we have leadership meeting and and we have the leaders of all the
ministries get together and we project and talk and and cast vision about the next year but this time we decided we're going to do with everybody that did the six classes because we want you to know what's going to happen next year so we can all do it together and make it happen we don't want to leave anyone out if there's somebody that's been here and you're just like man I just never get to the classes but man I want to be a part of this this meeting we're going to do a yeah we're gonna jump you in we're going to do a what I don't even know what name we came up with yeah there was a second word though wasn't there I don't remember but basically we're gonna just get you through the classes and that one and and and get through all six classes either on a Saturday or Saturday or Saturday or Sunday because I don't know if I could do it all in one day we're not we're gonna have an opportunity to do that between now and that meeting November 21st because that's coming in like in three and a half weeks and so even if you started the class this Sunday you're not gonna do it because it's six classes we want you to be a part of it we want you to and do it and really excited so a few things other things is that within the next week or two we're gonna move this Bible study back to the sanctuary and and there's reasons for that but you won't know unless you're a pin holder and you go to the meeting so you but I'm excited about it there's reasons why we moved out to the lobby but there's also reasons why we're gonna be moving back and so that's like I said it might be next week or the week after that you're gonna come in here not see the benches here not see this stuff here and we're gonna be in there and it's gonna be awesome you got the full name ignite what accelerated discipleship all right it's like becoming a disciple here and throwing miracle grow on you okay yeah like a chia pet you're gonna get chia petted so we can open our Bibles to 1st Timothy chapter 2 I know that we did chapter 1 last week with Tino and you know just to just to kind of reiterate or explain even more Timothy was very close to Paul the reason it's called first Timothy is because it's a letter to Timothy from the Apostle Paul and what Paul did was literally take the great commission what did Jesus say he
said go and make disciples of all nations so Paul was pouring into younger men so they can continue in what he was doing not only to multiply himself but every leader should be raising up someone to come after them and follow after and continue to lead we see you know we see that continually in the word of God in the Bible so Timothy is very close to Paul and he's writing him this letter why do I include we've been doing this the Bible study series on the life of following Jesus you see it on the screen there and we chose specifically books that teach us because so many people say man it's cool learning the Old Testament it's cool but how I need something to help me in my life right now today in my marriage and my life and my and just as a Christian today in 2026 and we chose to do this series 1st Corinthian 2nd Corinthians Jude and and now we're here in 1st Timothy because these are books that are important because it talks to the average believer so anyways we're gonna dive right into chapter 2 verse 1 I read it in the ESV and then I read it in the message just to make it a little simpler because sometimes you know somebody might say man I don't understand what he's saying oh yeah so it isn't interactive if you want to chime in say something as long as we stay on the subject to the Bible study we know we want to be interactive we want to we want to all be I should have had it open so give me one second here. So first Timothy chapter two starting to verse one. I'm going to read one through three in the ESV and then we'll read it in the message bible. Oh yeah, anyone on here that's on youtube if you're doing the super chats you get a super cat. Gerald Bainbridge, thank you brother. Well, first of all, I owe this to Sister Phyllis the West Side Cat and Gerald Bainbridge. Thank you. Those that are watching on Facebook and youtube appreciate you. God bless you. Chapter two verse one through three says this. He says first of all, then I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people. For kings and all who are in high positions that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life godly and dignified in every way. This is good and it is pleasing in the sight of our God our Savior. I'm going to read the same thing but in the message bible it's very simplified but it says the first thing I want you to do is pray. Pray every way you know how. For everyone you
know. Pray especially for rulers and their governments to rule well so we can be quietly about our business of living simply and humble contemplation. This is the way our Savior God wants us to live. Believe it or not that sounds nice but in a day right now where there's so many politics going left and right and up and down and upside down. This is a good reminder. Now you can't say well Paul didn't know what it was like in United States in 2026. Well let me tell you. Israel was under oppression of Rome. So he was living under an oppressive government. Christians are being persecuted and yet Paul says we got to pray for our leaders. The word of God is the word of God. We can't go against it. We can't argue with it. It is what it is and that's why it's important for us to read not only our favorite scriptures but scripture. And I'm going to say it again he says to pray to intercede thanksgivings for all people. And I know like we like to pray for the people we love. What about the people you don't like? He says give thanks giving and intercede and prayer. What does intercede mean to pray for them pray for the salvation. Pray for their families. Pray for good things of the Lord for their hearts to be drawn to the Lord. And even here it says for kings and all who are in high positions who regardless of who the governor is the president the mayor or the councilman. Pray so we pray that like let's say they're doing something that's ungodly or are we going to pray for for their ungodliness to go no we're praying for them that we've got to move in their hearts. For all kings who are in high positions that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life godly and dignified in every way. This is good and it is pleasing in the sight of God our Savior. We got a few more here all right Raven you get the super cat with the Superman suit and who else we've got here. Sierra the lawyer cat for her and name of Jesus I have defeated you you have no power victory in name of Jesus the trapping cat thank you all right so you know a lot of times we think that well that person is not godly I shouldn't pray for them I think we should pray for them even more. I'm not talking about just politicians, just people. Like, man, I'm not going to pray for them. Actually, that's who you should pray for more. Because if God reached you and me,
some of us are really horrible people, then they deserve salvation too. They deserve to hear the gospel too. They deserve to hear about the Lord too. And you know, when I read this, it's a reminder not to you only, but to me too. 'Cause it's really easy to pray for those we love. That's really easy. Verse four through seven. It's kind of a continuation from three because there's a comma after three, so I'm going to read three again, so it flows into four. It says, "This is good and it is pleasing, "and the sight of God our Savior, "who desires all people to be saved. "And to come to the knowledge of the truth." Actually, let's pause there. So who does God want to be saved? Everybody. His desire is for all to be saved. I know a lot of times it's easy to make some people good and some people bad in our list. Oh, those are wicked people. Those are evil people. Those are, well, guess what? God wants them to be saved too. Now, whether they get saved or not and reach out to the Lord, that's not our business, but I want them to understand, like, how is it that we, how do we rejoice over someone's life
going to hell if God doesn't rejoice in it? He doesn't rejoice in that. Matter of fact, scripture says, I don't know, top of my head in Old Testament. It says, "He finds no joy when a sinner dies." So, I mean, I'm gonna put it like real blatant, like, let's go all the way, like when the world rejoiced that Hitler shot himself, God didn't. Think about that one. The world rejoiced. And I'm not saying that what he did was right, the things in this world, see, here's the thing is that there's repercussions to the things we do in this world. But I'm saying in the scheme of things, in the schemes of eternity, God finds no joy in it. So, it says here in verse four, who desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth, God desires for everybody to be knowledgeable of God, of him. And verse five says, "For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, who gave himself as a ransom for all, which is the testimony given at the proper time." Verse seven says, "For this I was appointed a preacher and an apostle."
This is what Paul is saying. "I am telling the truth. I am not lying a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and truth." I'm gonna read it in the message. We'll talk about it. It says, "He wants not only us, but everyone saved. You know, everyone to get to know the truth, we've learned that there's one God and only one, and one priest mediator between God and us, Jesus, who offered himself in exchange for everyone held captive by sin to set them all free. Eventually the news is going to get out. This and this only has, this and this only has been my appointed work, getting this news to those who have never heard of God and explaining how it works by simple faith and plain truth." So Paul is saying, this is why I was called. This is what God is having me do. This is why he appointed me to be a preacher and an apostle to reach as many people as I possibly can. You know, it's crazy because in the same way he died for us 2,000 years ago, he died for every single person. And I think I appreciate a couple of weeks ago that every single time somebody dies without Christ, that was a medal that belonged to him that should have been his. Every person has been stolen by the enemy and the Lord deserves his reward. What's his reward, that person's soul?
Because he ransomed, he paid for it, he died for it. He died for him, died for her. You know, he suffered. How many of you get upset when you buy something at the grocery store Does that ever happen? Right? You're like, "Hey, where's my candy bar?" And lookin', lookin', lookin', and it's like, I think I didn't put it in the bag. Oh, I get mad because I paid for it. It belongs to me. That's my candy bar. And if you feel like that, how much does the Lord feel when somebody goes to hell? That he paid for? He said, "That is mine." She belongs to me. He belongs to me. Let's read that part again. He says in verse six, "Who gave himself as a ransom for all, "which is a testimony given at the proper time." Talking about a ransom, how many of you like, you watch movies like these crime dramas or whatever, where somebody gets kidnapped and they're like, "Well, leave a million dollars "in the trash can in the alley, "and we'll give you the person back."
And the person, the family gather together, get put a million dollars, put it in the duffel bag, put it in there, and then they get the person back dead. "Hey, I paid a ransom for this." Well, Jesus paid a ransom. But he paid more than a million dollars. He paid with his life. He paid with his life. That all comes from repentance. Yeah, exactly. He wants all people. So, if Paul is telling, he's pouring into Timothy, and Timothy's a young man, and he's telling Timothy, "Listen, "this is why I was appointed a preacher "and an apostle to let people know "that Jesus paid the ransom for them." He didn't raise us up to have Sunday services on how you can be a better this or a better that. He didn't do it so we can have services to teach you how to, whatever it is. You know, ultimately, the reason we come together, the reason we gather together, the reason we have these cameras and sounds and throw it out on YouTube and Facebook, 'cause we're hoping somebody hears the message of the cross. Because that's the most important thing that Jesus died for them. Not to be a member of this church,
not to be this, not to be able to be saved. Because he paid the ransom. I didn't pay the ransom for nobody. Your other pastor, Vangelis, your favorite YouTube, created content, whatever. They didn't pay the ransom for what Jesus did. And that's, I love the fact that Paul is like, "This is why I do this. "This is the only reason I do this." In verse eight through 10, it says this. "I desire them that in every place the men should pray, "lifting holy hands without anger or quarreling. "Likewise, also that women should adorn themselves "in respectable apparel with modesty and self-control, "not with braided hair and gold and pearls "or costly attire, "but with what is proper for women "who profess godliness with good works." I'll read that one in the message. It says, "Since prayers at the bottom of all of this, "what I want mostly is for men to pray, "not shaking angry fist at enemies, "but raising holy hands to God. "I want women to get in there with the men "in humility before God, "not primping before a mayor or chasing the latest fashions, "but doing something beautiful for God "and becoming beautiful doing it." So, you know, a lot of times when we,
I've said many times when we don't understand the context of letters, we take something wrong, like I have literally heard of churches that say, oh, it says here women can have braided hair so they think it's a sin for women to braid the hair. Man, there's something deeper here that's going on. And then you'll have an entire denomination over braided hair, not braided hair. You get to understand that in the context of that time, okay, for instance, how many of you remember Daisy Dukes? Who doesn't know what Daisy Dukes are? Who doesn't? they find from Pastor David saying hey the women shouldn't wear dasic dukes in church you know they're not gonna know what that means because of what that meant in our time we understand what it means in our time so you got to understand that what the women wore of that time of the world the women that were a lot of women were prophecies they were prostitutes for other gods there's certain things they would wear so we have to understand the context of Paul is saying listen you you are not that anymore so don't look like that it's not specifically that he was talking about braided hair braided hair was whatever it is that the women of the world were doing them but I will say this is that are we following the trends of the world now are you trying to look like you're in the world now why is the church looking like the world so much now why is it that that that that men you know like like sometimes you can't tell the difference that they're saved or not and the women too so that's what it's saying it's going much deeper than braids it's going much heat it's not saying like you it's not saying like oh man that's a sin then I you know I can't have braided hair or gold or pearls or costly attire and you know I mean what is costly attire I go to Ross and something's for five dollars that was 50 so I
can't wear that because the original price you know like so again what's in the heart was in the heart of things you know and but we can't ignore the fact that he started off talking to the men first what does he tell the men it's interesting right because he's telling the men you need to be praying and quit fighting with each other he says it in the very beginning what I want mostly is for men to pray not shaking angry fisted enemies well I was a gangster for the streets I'm a gangster for Jesus and Paul is like men shut up and pray just pray lift up your holy hands and pray start to start to to to battle in the spirit what are we doing here shaking your fist at enemies so he rebukes to men he's like Timothy this is what I want you to tell them that in every place the men should pray lifting holy hands without anger or quarrel and quit arguing with each other quit trying to do this trying to do that I'll do each other trying to out match each other and just pray all right boxer let's see what we got for you I know what I got for you or is it at the spread cat for you it's good all right so but you know he's telling the men to praise telling the women it'd be respectable but I'm not gonna stay there much longer but I do want to re-read ten it says but what is proper for women who profess godliness to be godly be godly be godly in the way you present yourself be godly I know those of you like if you go to a an interview if you go stand before court a judge you gonna dress a little differently right because how you look is how you're gonna be treated you know I I get frustrated I'm not saying it's right I'm not saying whatever but there's times where I'll be relaxed a few years ago we went into Rite Aid and and I think I had that day I had like like some tennis shoes on basketball shorts a t-shirt and I got followed around in the store yeah and you know how they tell you wait 20 minutes you know so we're like well I mean let's look around so she's like well I'm gonna just sit here because they have the chair so I'm gonna go look around I walk and then I just came back after a few minutes if she was what's wrong I said and they're following me all over the store I got upset but I'm gonna be honest with you I would follow me because I look crazy I know
suspicious I looked up in the mirrors I look like that suspicious guy oh that's me I know now I will say this to add to the context I was in Stockton you know now I have I have gone in that store after Sunday service and I'm wearing a suit people talk to you different right Oh, they're misjudging me there, this and that, but let's be honest with you. You know, when you look, when you look your best, people treat you different. You know, ladies, you know, be modest, dressing away that's appropriate. Because you know what? You're gonna track the way you look. Same thing with the guys too. You're gonna track what you put out. And that's just the honest truth. You can get mad about it, you can do whatever, but there's a reason Paul is saying, listen, just be godly, be godly. Verse 11, it says, let a woman learn quietly with all submissiveness. Okay, this one's gonna get controversial and I'm gonna give you some context. Don't get mad already. Hold on. - I heard that through two, so I hear. - It says, in 12, he says, I do not permit a woman to teach or to exercise authority over a man. Rather, she is to remain quiet. (laughing)
- That looks back, yeah. (laughing) - This is the my letter. - Yeah. Who? You know, that one got warm in here. I'm gonna take my jacket out of there. (laughing) I'm gonna read it in the message. It says, he says, I'm gonna talk, we're gonna talk about context guys, 'cause this is important, but he says, I don't let women take over and tell the men what to do. They should study to be quiet and obedient along with everyone else. I think that's the part I, yeah. Okay, how many of you got riled up right there? Let me put a little bit of context. Number one is that at that time, the men were educated, the women were just taking, let's put it, they didn't have first, kindergarten, first grade, second, like we do, but let's put it in that context and make it easier to understand. The women are allowed to go up to third grade, the men were allowed to graduate high school, you know, in that sense. And their school was the Bible. Why do you think they had a bar mitzvah? Because the young man would actually memorize
the entire Bible and he would be able to recite that Bible and he was considered a man. So now that they're coming into the Lord, Paul's preaching, talking about, well, you know, Jeremiah and Isaiah and quoting Moses, the men understood that because they were taught that, they were educated that, the women weren't. Like what's he talking about? What's he talking about? What's he talking about? Kept interrupting service. So there's another part of another letter of Paul's like, "Hey man, you need to teach your wife." That's one thing in context. The second one is this, is that we do know that, actually he says it in the next verse. Let's read that first. It says this, "For Adam was formed first, then Eve. And Adam was not deceived, but the woman was deceived and became a transgressor." In the message, it says this, "Adam was made first, then Eve, women were deceived first, our pioneer and sin. But Adam was right on her heels." I have seen many women raise boys and you did your best. You know, I'm sure that's not easy to be a mom and dad at the same time. But that was not the proper order that God intended it to be. In the same way that a young lady, a young daughter, needs mom to be a woman.
A young boy needs a father to be a man. And there's things that women, you guys, God bless your hearts. God bless my mom. But there's things that she would hide from my dad that I wish now as an adult she didn't. She should have let dad deal with me because a mother's love is a beautiful thing, but sometimes a father's discipline was what I needed the most. So I could be molded into the man that I should have been. And as men, I don't know if you ladies know this, I'm gonna tell you a secret, we are a little stubborn. You guys know men can be a little bit stubborn, little bit. [BLANK_AUDIO] take men to teach other men to serve God. It's going to take men to teach younger men how to be warriors for Christ. Dale, yes, them? I just want to point this out. You know what we're thinking about? We're going to clean the side of the church. So we're going to find the side of it. Jesus, after you've got a huge ocean of dead, a tall woman to go and tell him. He didn't say it'd be quiet, but he said, "Told a woman to go tell him if I had a vision." I think we got to use wisdom for the Christmas. That's right. He's right because what I don't like is, again, remember how we're talking about whole denominations will start because of braided hair? There's whole denominations that take that about this verse and say women can't even stand on the pulpit. Women can't even be on the stage. Women can't this. Anybody been in a church like that? Okay. I have seen churches like that. They're extreme that every man feels
like they can tell any woman what to do. And I'm just like, you ain't telling my wife to do. I'm the head of that house, not you. Oh, I'm the man. And Bible says, dude, no, you're tripping. You know, so the Bible never says that women can't prophesy because it says young men and women will prophesy. Bible never says women can't go and share the gospel. Bible says women can't ever teach. Bible says women can't never preach. It never says that. But it does say for the man to be the head of the house that Adam was made first that the man should be the pastor, the man should be the one that leads. Now, do I know women pastors though? And I love them. I know specifically when woman she passes a church successfully in Long Beach. She shared her story. She's an older woman. I was locked up with her son. And she, they had her and her husband started the church. The husband was a pastor of the church. It was growing church. They loved the families, loved on the families. He decides to leave her for somebody else and completely abandoned his family, his wife in the church. She didn't know what to do. She loved these families. They were her whole everything, her children, everything. And on that Sunday, she got behind the pulpit and started preaching. And she's like, I ain't no preacher. I don't know what I was doing. But I didn't, I just couldn't let these families fall apart. In the same way that a mother will rise up and be a mother and a father to when the dad leaves. It wasn't the proper way, but she did what she had to do. But that's not the way God intended. It's not what he intended. You know, so I have had, I have had Sharon chair, I have had Sister Lydia preach on a Sunday. I know Diana and Angel have done messages. And I have actually had not nobody here. Somebody, you
know, had hit me up on email because, you know, everybody's brave on email. And they're just like, Oh, I thought you were biblical church. Why are you letting her preach? You know, and I'm just like, she's preaching. She's not pastoring. I'm the pastor. So what's the problem? You know, so, but notice what it says in the message, he says, I, he says, I don't let women take over and tell the men what to do. I have talked to there's a lot of women that would say, man, I would, and that's women are crazy. And women crazy too, because I know men are just stubborn. But if we all laughed at men being stubborn, can we say some women could be a little? No, no, no, no, am I getting in trouble here? Well, no, not my woman, but yeah, there's something interesting that happens, right? Is is when we get in trouble. I'm in it anyway. So, no, not with you, with all the women in this place, they're gonna jump know, I know some men can be very emotional creatures. But for the most part, men, we have it ingrained in us to make the hard decisions sometimes. You know, and that's just that something that God gave us. I'm not saying women can't, I'm not saying women don't, I'm not saying that sometimes I met some very emotional men, you know, a lot of times it's because they had a mother to raise them. You know, and but a lot of times it's up to the men, you know, my mom made a lot of decisions at home. But when it came to the serious decisions, it was dads. You know, it's the same thing here. There's little things here and there that that that Sharon would decide, but there's trust me, there's major decisions. It came from me. And it didn't come from me. It came from supplication. It came from prayer came like Lord, give me vision because I have no idea what I'm doing. I don't know how
to pass through this church, Lord, because ultimately a man should be in submission to God. And if and if a man follows after the Lord, a woman will a woman wants to follow a man, but that man better be following the Lord. And if a woman sees that in the heart of man, she will gladly follow that man. But we see man, we like that. Oh, a woman, you better submit to me. Oh, but you're not submitting to God. It doesn't work that way. There's something about seeing a man after God's own heart and there's something beautiful there. And what an example that sets for the spouse for the wife. And then she says that example for the children. That's the way it should be. So in verse 15, it says, yet she will be saved through child bearing if they continue in faith and love and holiness with self control. What that means, I'll be honest with you, these are one of those things where I'm like, I have no idea why he said that. I don't know what he means by that. What does he mean by the women will continue will be saved through child bearing, you know, and the message is says, but this salvation only comes to those who continue in faith, love and holiness gathering all into maturity, you can depend on this. So anyways, I will be honest with you, I have had a lot of I've read a lot of scholars that they don't know what to make out of this verse 15, yet she will be saved through child bearing. Because obviously, there's a context we don't understand because if you just read it at saying, well, if you have kids, you'll be saved. Well, I know a lot of you have a bunch of kids and you don't act safe. Oh, go ahead. So I'm reading along. Yeah, I couldn't hold you out with the women thing too. But I thought it's
fun to watch it. But I will get back to that. It says here that saved my child bearing, stumbling that this verse refers to me, this refers to the price and that the women, the woman was married. However, I mean, refer to the woman's special cast. So it's kind of connecting the women to the women. It's I mean, it's not really held that much. Yeah, I didn't help much. Anybody else have to be anyone else? Anybody? You guys on it? So, so these curse users was that she was going to go through hell with the child person. And maybe it connects to that, where we're going to get refined it because of what their ancestors talked to them about about their story, stories in the Bible, never just Bibles, but they were having such real stories that they would pay for the money. And that was he's Chris, was that she was going to go basically to hell, which is a problem. And it makes sense, because he's literally talking about either. So obviously, that was in his mind. And then he mentions safe to childbirth. So that's the hard part being safe. Right. So how does that again? Yeah, giving childbirth. I was very I think that's the only way to affect the world. I just want to thank you. So I have a wish there. Yeah, honestly, I think it's closer to what are the medical same because he's never talking about eat here. And said, yeah, it should be safe for a child better. But I mean, yeah, I'm not going to say it. It's not. Well, there's a JCPAT that means salvation, speech, and salvation.
Speaking as a woman, when a woman goes through childbearing, the childbearing process is such a difficult thing. But once you're done with the childbearing process, it's the joy after. When you're done with the childbearing is the blessing. It's the birth. The birth is what's beautiful after because there's life to it. And I almost feel that that has maybe has something to do with it because through that blessing comes life. [INAUDIBLE] You know? What if they keep going? So-- I didn't refer to this in computer. You didn't refer enough? No. So salvation referred to here is not the justification, but the daily sanctification. Most likely, Paul is referring to being delivered from the desire to dominate by recognizing if he wants appropriate blessing of God's creation order. That place is in him. So it just hits basically it's low-falling in there for-- Yeah, natural order, yes. [INAUDIBLE] He says, "Ain't no such thing as a gangster for Jesus. Jesus doesn't need to be a gangster.
He's Lord. I find it crazy when people say they're a gangster for the Lord. All right. All right. We're going to just-- we've got a few more minutes. We're going to go into the next chapter, chapter 3. And verse 1 says, "The saying is trustworthy. If anyone aspires to the office of overseer, he desires a noble task." In the message, it says, "If anyone wants to provide leadership in the church, good, but there are preconditions." Everybody wants a title. Nobody wants to do the work. And I love the fact it's interesting that he says, if you aspire to it, that's good. That's good. OK. OK. But there's things that come with it. And verse 2-- and again, this is why we're including this in the study. Because I believe that everyone's a leader in their own home. So don't sit there like, oh, this chapter has nothing to do with me. No, you're a leader of your own home. You're a leader of your children. You're a leader over-- you're your own leader.
If there's unsafe people in your family, guess what? You're supposed to lead them. So this pertains to all of us. But here, he is obviously talking about a church and a leadership. But he says, "You desire noble task." Verse 2 says, "Therefore an overseer must be above reproach, the husband of one wife, sober-minded, self-controlled, respectable, hospitable, able to teach, not a drunkard, not violent, but gentle, not quarrelsome, not a lover of money. He must manage his own household well without dignity keeping his children submissive. For if anyone does not know how to manage his own household, how will he care for God's church? He must not be a recent convert, or he may become puffed up with conceit and fall into the condemnation of the devil. Moreover, he must be well thought of by outsiders so that he may not fall into disgrace into a snare of the devil." I'm going to read it in the message. Is, "Is anyone wants to provide leadership in the church good but their preconditions? A leader must be well thought of, committed to his wife, cool and collected, accessible, hospitable. He must know what he's talking about, not be over fond of wine, not pushy but gentle, not thin-skinned, not money-hungry. He must handle his own affairs well, attentive to his own children, and having their respect.
For someone is unable to handle his own affairs, how can he take care of God's church? He must not be a new believer, lest the position go to his head and the devil trips him up. Outsiders must think well of him, or else the devil will figure out a way to lure him into a trap." to raise up leaders. Now, most likely you're not going to find a new Christian and they're going to have all of this in line. So it's not about disqualifying yourself. It's about using this as a measuring stick, a measuring rod for your own life to say, okay, this is what I need to be then. Where do I start? Above be above reproach. What is above reproach to, to not have accusations, not to have all kinds of, you know, I call it this all the time. I've often said this. It is not to have idle time or unaccounted time where nobody knows where you're at. Nobody knows what you're doing. Your spouse doesn't even know you're at three, four hours at a time. That's not right. I'm not saying like, like you got to, you know, bug each other stuff or this, but I mean, to, to, to be able to have a nobody, to be above reproach. Yeah, accountability. That's the word I was thinking of. So an overseer must be above reproach and the husband of one wife. Obviously we knew people back then they're kind of a bunch of wives and, and whatnot. And so the husband of one wife and look at this sober minded. So some people, you know, Christians, they'll look at the person, you know, over there smoking weed, but you're taking prescription drugs you shouldn't be taking. Oh, but, but a doctor gave it to you. You know, and it's like, they gave you 30 days worth, suppose the last 30 days and you're out in 10. Well, quit pointing at the pothead, you know, because it says to be sober minded. If you're not sober minded, how can you, how can you be in your right mind to make the right decisions to be above reproach? So reminded self controlled. That's another one. And I know he's talking to men here because sometimes we tend to lose control, but he's saying to be self controlled. Notice it doesn't say that the Holy Spirit isn't going to control you. It says be self controlled. You have it in your own self. Oh man, I break things in my house because that's just how I am because
you ain't self controlled. I think it's really important for a man in the moment, then to forgive quickly, don't hold, don't hold somebody's face. You know, like sometimes, you know, I'm jack up. We're going to jack up some time. But then I'll take out the trash. You can't get home. I'm going to text you tomorrow throughout the trash. So he says be sober minded and self controlled. That word self means that it's within yourself. You know, and that was something that took me years to get older, man, because I was before Christ, I had no self control at all. I would fly off at the handle and then I became a Christian. And then when things got me mad, I lost control. You know, and I'm like, man, this is this this ain't right. And I had to learn to self control. You know, for me, guys, this is what I had to do is I had to really get in the word of God and understand who I am in Christ, understand my identity, understand that I'm an ambassador, understand that I'm a representative of the kingdom of God, understand that everywhere I want. So for instance, when you see a police officer, you see a police officer do bad. Doesn't that make the whole station look bad? Well guess what? Ask Christians when we're not self controlled and you're acting out of pocket. They're like, Oh man, house of rest is off the hook. The whole church is off the hook. So we that he need to be self controlled. [BLANK_AUDIO] Thank you. Exactly. You know, even before Christ. Okay, I remember I was raising my kids, my little kids, and every time I would leave on the weekend with my friends, I always got into something every time. And I would just be like, man, you know, why does this keep happening? And you know what came to my mind one day? Don't leave. Stay home. You know what happened that weekend when I stayed home? Nothing crazy happened because I wouldn't put myself out there. And, and it got to the point where I'm just like seriously like I'm out there, like almost hurting people and sometimes hurting people and this and just all kinds of drama. And I didn't want to be like that. So I just said, you know what, I'm just going to stay home. If there was a, I was a Raiders fan and so I had the biggest TV out of my friends. So I used to be like. What is barbecue? Let's watch the game here, because they wanted to go to a bar or a pole haul and then somebody looked at us wrong. And you know, I took myself out of that I was smart enough in sin to say, I know where this leads to so I'm going to do something different. Why do I say that? Because it's coming back to the self control thing. I go with, you know, with my homeboy man, I get high. Well quit going with your homeboy. Be self controlled. You know yourself. You know yourself better than anybody other than God. You know, be self controlled. The next word respectable.
Those of us that have been locked up. You don't give respect. You ain't going to get respect. You give respect. You get respect back. Be respectable. People are going to treat you in the same way you treat them. Hospital, but what does that mean to be to be hospitable to be to be the way it says here. What's a good word for hospitable? Inviting. Inviting. Welcoming. Yeah. Be hospitable. You want to be a leader? Be hospitable. Be welcoming. I'm able to teach. Oh. Be teachable. So many people. Oh, they love hearing about God until they get rebuked. Until you get corrected. Until you get called out on your stuff. I don't like it either. But you know what scripture says, I have to be able to be teachable. How can I teach anyone if nobody can teach me. So we have to be able to teach, able to teach and also not only able to teach, but to be teachable. There's no way you can teach others if you're not teachable. But right here he's saying for a leader to be able to teach. Are you able to teach? And obviously the list, not a drunkard, not violent, but gentle, not quarrelsome and not a lover of money. Chasing after money. Go ahead. Not to be what the truth of the spirit. Like we should be the fruit of the spirit, not what this is. Yeah, exactly, but we need to, you know, reflect the fruits of the spirit. Not a lover of money. A lot of people get this wrong. They say that money is a root of all evil. If that's the case, give it all to me. The Bible doesn't say that. It actually says the love of money is a root of all evil. Money is what makes this world go around. Money is what puts gas in your tank and food in your refrigerator. Money is what pays your bills. Money is not evil. But if your love for that money, then you have created and made money your God. Don't ever chase money, chase after the Lord. Jesus says he goes seek me and all things will be added unto you. So there's a difference there so he's Don't be in a position to where you're just chasing money. Don't have a church and try to think, how can I get more money or in a ministry? How can I do this where I can get more money? How can I do this? Then you're doing it wrong.
Don't be a lover of money, but it takes money to pay the rent here. We have the same landlord. He shows up every time. Yeah, in case you guys need body work, Orlando's right here next door. There's a little plug for you. That's all good. You have a dent who'll give you a discount. No, but when you are busy for God, God gets busy for you. But when you make it about something else, and again, the rest to me is self-explanatory. He must manage his own household well. Be respectable in your own house. Be a respectable person. Does it mean your kids are always gonna listen to you? If they listen to you every time, please counsel me. I didn't always listen to my dad, but I'll tell you this, I respected him. Because I saw that he worked hard. I saw that he was a man with conviction. He served the Lord. And whether I was angry at my dad or didn't listen to my dad or whatever, I never lost respect for him. I would have him like this. What happened? I would have him like this. What are you talking about?
He said, how old do you work here? Oh, yeah. You scared me. I thought you were trying to tell me something. (audience laughs) I was like, don't scare me like that. Don't scare me. Don't scare me. You know something I don't. (audience laughs) But again, if someone does not know how to manage his own household, how will he care for God's house? How will he care for God's house? And again, I know we're gonna wrap this up, but this is really important too, is he must not be a recent convert. I've had so many times over the years, people give their life to the Lord. They're super excited. They're on fire for God. And we immaturally put them in a position of leadership and it destroys them. And a lot of times they don't understand when I tell them, hey man, you're not ready yet. You're not this and then they'll get mad, they'll get upset. You know, it shouldn't be that way and it can't be that way.
I already have it. Yeah. So we have to be able to manage our household. We have to be able to basically, I'm gonna sum it up like this. Be the person you are in front of the church. Be that person at home. Be that person in front of others. Be that person in your own house. Your family should be able to give the best testimony of you. And if not, then work on that. Pray about that. Submit yourself to the Lord about that. And this last one, the verse seven, you must be well thought of by outsiders. And I have heard people, I think they don't realize what they're saying and people will say, man, I don't care what they think. I don't care what they think of me. You better care. You better care. You better care what people think of you in the church and you better care what people think of you outside the church too. So I don't care, that's a spirit of pride saying that. When you say I don't care, that's prideful. You should care 'cause scripture says you better care. To be above reproach, to have good testimony in the church and have a good testimony outside the church. And I think that,
again, I'm glad Orlando you're here because this is your first time here. You've been across the alley here for three years. And I'm guessing you've been watching. And you probably watch how me and Sharon are outside of Sunday. And I have a feeling. - I think how we are. - We call it our. - The church. - We call it our reflection of the identity. - Even when we walk your back, we'll use it while we talk about it. - Sorry about that, by the way. - There are a reflection of you and I have been very impressed Amen. Amen. And that speaks volumes. Okay. To have a good testimony inside the church and outside the church. That's really important. How people see you at your job. How people see you at your school. How you're fat, how you're not believing in family sees you. Thank you. Thank you. But they're all getting drunk and arguing. How do they see you? On Christmas. How do they see you?
That's important. That's important. They might not like you serving the Lord, but trust me. When trouble comes, guess who they're going to go to? Hopefully you. Hopefully you because they have seen your walk. And all of a sudden you have this people that make fun of you, family that look down at you and then they call you and they say, can you pray for me? That's what we want to have a good testimony inside the church. Outside the church. Um, what are we going to have a great new one? We're going to be calling it cat. Oh. And if I lost somebody, you get the limpy cat. And if I lost somebody else, you get a cat at that time. And if I lost somebody else, you get a cat at that time. And if I lost somebody, you get the limpy cat. And if I lost somebody else, you get the limpy cat. And if I lost somebody else, you get the limpy cat. And if I lost somebody else, you get the limpy cat. And if I lost somebody else, you get the limpy cat. And if I lost somebody else, you get the limpy cat. And if I lost somebody else, you get the limpy cat. And if I lost somebody else, you get the limpy cat. And if I lost somebody else, you get the limpy cat. And if I lost somebody else, you get the limpy cat. And if I lost somebody else, you get the limpy cat. And if I lost somebody else, you get the limpy cat. We are a Grace International Church, part of a global family of more than 5,000 churches worldwide. Welcome home. Hey, man, how's everyone doing? I know there's -- oh, there it is. That doesn't space. Unfortunately, Pastor Angel and Diana are sick. There's no youth, there's no young adults, and instead of being sad about that, pray for your pastors because everybody's sick at that house. Ezra, Justin, the whole family. And so just keep them in prayer, and I know we are releasing children, though, right? All right, so we are releasing children. Amen. So, we are changing things up a little bit, coming back into the sanctuary. As you can see, some of the children, time to move this way and to be back in here and for those of you that are online super chats will be coming back probably hopefully next week this computer does not have the super cats loaded up on there so they have to set that up and put that in there because the super cats for those of you online they were on my laptop because when we would do it in the lobby I had the laptop
there and all of the super cats are on there but I have to put it on a memory stick and give it to them and they have to load it in so we are going to continue let's just let's bow our heads oh we'll meet and greet each other after prayer all right all right well just for now just look around and say hey what's up you know I mean so all right yeah Lord God we thank you for this opportunity Lord God to read your word to open our scriptures Lord God and to to dive deeper into what it is that you were saying to us we thank you for this sermon this Bible study series that we've been doing for quite some time Lord God is is living a life of a Christian following after you Lord and we thank you for what we are learning we give you honor and all glory in Jesus name amen so we are in first Timothy chapter 3 verse 8 this is where we left off last week and and we're gonna dive right in and it's it's really interesting because something that well I'll just read it and then we'll talk about some things first Timothy chapter 3 starting at verse 8 you know I if you were here Sunday I did a message called the master counterfeiter and and talking about just I basically was was saying to be careful be careful of what you are taught careful of what people are saying especially in this day and age of social media and TikTok and Instagram and YouTube and faith you know a lot of times you hear teachings or you hear different things and and even here I mean you should always test everything the Bible says it tests test everything and that's why it's so important to be a biblical church and a lot of people say well this is biblical because it says it in the Bible but they'll take it out of context you know because you can make the Bible say anything you want to say without any context you know and you got to just be careful to understand if I gave you a letter that somebody wrote to me 50 years ago and all you read was one sentence you could take that whole letter completely wrong because all you're doing is taking that one sentence not having any idea of who that letter was written to what they were going through what was happening at the time that letter was written you know and
so think about it you read the Bible that was written you know thousands of years ago and if you don't understand who was written to why was written to what was going on what was happening who wrote it you don't get the full the full context of it and that's really dangerous and that is why there's so many false teachings around you know and so this is why we purposely do our Bible studies on Wednesday book by book line by line scripture by scripture you know so we can try to get the best understanding we possibly can could it be possible that when we face the Lord and we're in heaven he's gonna say you know pastor David you know I don't feel coming pastor David probably son he'll be like you got that one teaching all wrong you know me but he's it's like we while we're here on this earth we're gonna try a hardest to be as biblically sound in context as we possibly can and I think that's important especially the way things are going and this is what he's warning about he's he's pouring into Timothy who was his his student he almost sees him like a son and he's pouring into him and he's sharing with him the way things are going and so right here he's telling him how a leader of a ministry or church should be and I said this last week and I'm gonna say it again is that this doesn't mean for somebody to be here say well I'm not a pastor that doesn't pertain to me well you're a leader of somebody man if you're if you're a man you're leader of your house women if you're leader of your children you you you are leading those who are in your family who don't know Christ yet so this applies to everybody okay so The first Timothy chapter 3 verse 8 says this. not greedy for dishonest gain. They must hold the mystery of the faith with the clear conscience, and let them also be tested first, then let them serve as deacons if they prove themselves blameless. Their wives, likewise must be dignified, not slanders, but sober-minded, faithful in all things. Let deacons each be the husband of one wife, managing their children and their own households well. For those who serve well as deacons gain a good standing for themselves and also great
confidence in the faith that is in Christ Jesus. I'm going to read that portion in the message. It's the same scripture, but the message is worded very more, a lot more simpler, and it goes like this, 8 through 13 in the message. It says the same goes for those who want to be servants in the church, serious, not deceitful, not too free with the bottle, not in it for what they can get out of it. They must be reverent before the mystery of the faith, not using their position to try to run things, let them prove themselves first. If they show they can do it, take them on. No exceptions are to be made for women, same qualifications, serious, dependable, not sharp-tongued, not over fond of wine. Servants in the church are to be committed to their spouses, attentive to their own children, and diligent in looking after their own affairs. Those who do this servant work will come to be highly respected, a real credit to this Jesus faith. I find it very interesting that we're reading this part in First Timothy because it just, I think, two days ago, this pastor in Ohio basically presented to his congregation his second wife, and he literally called both women up, and not only did he say he had two wives, but he said it was unbiblical for a man to only have one wife. And this is all over the internet, all over YouTube, and I'm just like, this is insane because what Bible does he have? And again, this is a perfect example, is that we have to be careful because I literally saw him in an interview last night where he was not doubling down, he was full on saying this is biblical, and it was the strangest thing when you see somebody completely blind by the enemy, not able to see the very scriptures in your face, and actually this scripture was brought up to him because he proclaims himself a prophet, and somebody asked him, what about First Timothy, chapter three, where it says bishops and deacons, and he goes, oh, I'm not a bishop, and I'm not a deacon. So that doesn't pertain to me, you know, and I'm just, are you kidding me? Are you serious?
You know, because you got to remember bishop and deacon were English words, but original in the original context of Greek, an overseer was a leader, a pastor, a minister, anyone that is over a flock that pertains to you, you know, and it's like, it's like doing these spiritual gymnastics to try to make the scripture say what they don't say. I mean, in the very beginning of Genesis, what had got established in the very beginning, he says, a man will leave his father and mother and cleave unto his wife, and together they shall become one flesh, let no one separate that. That's one thing, you know, and it's funny because what's not funny, it's sad actually, but the situation that he's even in his claim, let's pretend for a second that he was right, that because he has two wives and they're okay and it's biblical, but it's crazy because they asked him, well, how did you, how did this come about? And he says, well, she was really close to my wife and she was always over at the house and I started to get feelings for her and I shared it with my wife and I'm like, boom! So Jesus says if you look at a woman and lust after her You're an adult her I mean there's there's so if there's so much wrong in so many ways that even led him to that position And you know what the sad part see people are gonna do what people are gonna do Here's the crazy part The congregation clapped When he introduced the second life If I ever do that Guys jump me Just beat me down like I'm in the gang or something and and and drag me out of this church It's sharing to do it on our own, too, but Of course But my point is this oh you had a question The first life let him live yeah Yeah, a lot more stuff is coming out now that kind of brings light to that because I thought the same thing at first And I don't want to make this whole video about this couple, but I'm just saying it's insane because the fact that we're reading this right now You know, I think it's only fitting
Because it's straight-up says here as we read In verse 11 no, I'm sorry in verse where we at where we at 12 let deacons each be the husband of one wife and If we back up even to last week's study It says for overseers or somebody who is leading the church In verse 3 - therefore an overseer must be Above reproach the husband of one wife So remind itself control and all that so then if you go down actually to verse Seven I know we're going into last week, but this is important too, and then I'll keep it moving verse seven says moreover This this leader must be well thought of by outsiders So that he may not fall into disgrace Today me and Sharon will kind of go in seeing who else was talking about this online and there was so many non-Christian channels And here's the thing right what happens when when somebody looks bad it makes So all these people were talking about pastors because of what this clown did and This is exactly because we bring shame We bring shame to the name of Christ We bring shame, you know, that's why it's so important is that we have to have we have to be well thought of by the outsiders It doesn't mean we're going to be liked by the outsiders, but we're not going to give them a reason to talk You know and that's exactly what this person has done So he's bringing damage not only to his own self. He's bringing condemnation to his own self his own relationship his own whatever it is But he's bringing condemnation to the body Because it brings shame you know, so Yeah, man. It's just wild, you know, so
But besides that part We can't ignore this other part where it says to be dignified Um, oh actually let me back up this back up. Yeah verse eight Be dignified has some dignity Which again goes back to you know, living a dignified life living a way that is that has dignity not double-tongued So when it says double tongue, it says to not be deceitful. Don't don't don't be deceiving Don't lie don't manipulate don't be a master counterfeiter Don't be double tongue not addicted to too much wine not greedy for dishonest game So even scripture says that we are not to chase after Money in a dishonest way. It doesn't say that you can't be successful If you if you have a job if you do overtime if you have a business, there's nothing wrong with st. Lord bless my business you know because There's nothing wrong with that God bless. He says he doesn't does subscription not say that he will bless everything you touch You know when I when I paint something to sell at a gallery, you don't think I'm asking God to bless my hands You know when I'm writing a book or whatever it is. I do you don't think you know, so everything we do if you're a landscaper You know, so there's nothing wrong, but it says don't be greedy for dishonest game You know to gain financial by dishonesty because then that's wrong And it says that they must hold the mystery of the faith of the clear conscience Whatever it is that you do with the clear conscience that you know that you're not doing nothing. That's manipulative Make your money grow your business. Do your job get get some overtime do all those things, you know, and Do it with a clear conscience And like verse 10 says and let them also be tested first then let them serve as deacons if they prove themselves Blameless so even before you give somebody a position of authority a position of leadership Let them be tested first See how they are see how they they they carry themselves how they you know having a lot of knowledge means nothing without wisdom How do I know that there's a bunch of people coming out of universities and have a dollar knowledge and there's a lot of 80-year-old men that haven't been a college, but have wisdom and Older women, you know, I mean so this wisdom is different than knowledge so
we want to test people first and Then I love this because in verse 11 he doesn't get the women off the hook He says their wives likewise must be dignified Again hold yourself with dignity hold yourself where people respect you Have dignity for yourself have principles for yourself and in the way you you you present yourself in all ways And it says not slanderers So don't go slandering people don't go just talking about you know In here and the message just says Don't be sharp-tongued Like just What's the Spanish word? Go mad at us Just gossiping The Bible says don't do that Don't do that You know and I know a lot of times in church circles. We do it But we do it in the you know, like you don't want to really be gossiping So you're just like man, let's pray for that sister because you know, she's It says don't be slanderers but be sober-minded and Faithful in all things be faithful in all things And again, it goes back to the husband of one wife managing their children and their households. Well, you know To a certain point we can't control your children, especially when they get older But are you setting an example for your house? You know, I've heard parents say well, you know, they're gonna hear cussing and this and that they're gonna see smoking and all that out in the world I said so you're gonna show them at home, too How about if you show them a different way of life Separate from the world now every child grows up to being adult and we're all gonna make our own decisions But are you gonna set them up for failure now? That's why it says that to be attentive to your own children and
diligent and looking after their own affairs are you doing things in a way that's teaching them right and Verse 13 for those who serve well as deacons they gain a good standing for themselves And also great confidence in the faith that is in Christ Jesus So in the message that last verse is those who do this servant work will come to be highly respected And that's important not for our sake But for Christ's sake because remember again, we are ambassadors and ambassadors are representative of the Kingdom of God So how we present ourselves reflects him You know, have you ever seen a semi-trux that says how's my driving call this number? Because if you're driving for a company and you're just all over the road you're making the company look bad You know, so We have to conduct ourselves in a way that that holds great confidence and and is highly respected in the way people see us people see you know and a Lot of people that you know That don't serve the Lord. They don't say nothing, but they're watching They're watching man and the moment it slips up to the first ones that call you on it You know, so verse 14 He says, "I hope to come to you soon." Is it Paul writing to Timothy? But I'm writing these things to you so that if I delay, you may know how one ought to behave in the household of God, which is the church of the living God, a pillar and a buttress of the truth. That's 14 and 15. And the message it says, "I hope to visit you soon, but just in case I'm delayed, I'm writing this letter so you'll know how things ought to go in God's household. Is God a live church? Bastion of truth."
So as we read these scriptures, we have to read these scriptures in a way is this is how God instituted the church to be. He orders that there be order, that there be dignity, that there be respect, that the leaders not have a bunch of wives and all this stuff, all this list, because if whatever leadership is in the church, whether it's a pastor, leader of a ministry, whatever, we are setting the example of everyone else that comes in the building. We cannot expect the congregation to be a certain way if the leaders are not a certain way. So we are held to a higher standard and that is important. That is why we have to be careful and say, well, are you really called? Because a calling is a heavy calling. It is a heavy calling. And how many times have you seen pastors fall in the entire church disperses? That pastor is gonna have to answer to God for that. And that is something that is heavy. That is something that's real heavy because I remember when I first got saved, the Lord, I felt he was telling me to preach. I wanna say almost two years later after I got saved. And I argued against it because by that time, I'd probably read the Bible five times and I would see the warning where God says,
he would say to the shepherds, to the pastors, he would say, if people, if you tell people and you teach them false teachings, they will go to hell but their blood will be on your shoulders, on your head. And I used to read that and then so two years later when the Lord says, you're gonna preach. That's the verse that popped in my head. I'm like, I don't want nobody's blood on my hands. So it's a serious thing. And I don't think, I think that goes beyond just the pastor. If you're leading a ministry, if you're leading evangelism, if you're leading ushers or greeters or worship or teachers, are you doing it in a dignified way that is respectful to the Lord? Because we are setting the example in this, okay, put it this way. In the same way I said, okay, the world's gonna hear those things but that don't mean your children have to hear that stuff in the house, right? Well, guess what? The congregation is gonna be hit with all kinds of garbage Monday through Saturday but then they gotta come into the house of God and see it too, that shouldn't be so. This should be a place where people come almost like a refreshing from what they've been, especially if you come from a family that is not saved and your work is not saved
and you're just hearing all this garbage at work and all this garbage at home and then you come Sunday and you hear more garbage? This should be a place of refreshing. This should be a place that it's fresh water. It's fresh bread where you have been had loaded down with the things of this world all week and this Sunday you come to the house of God not because this building is holy because the people come and we are holy, we're set apart for God and we set an example and we give people breath of fresh air with a clean conscience. And that is so, so important and unfortunately, I think that many times, many places of worship forget that and they wanna be so cool, they wanna be so inviting to the world that we end up diluting ourselves to the world and that can't be, I truly believe that people are going to get hungry for what's real and I think that's gonna sweep across this nation. I think that God is raising up some generals People are seeing that and that's awesome. That's great. But then they're gonna say where's in Modesto? Can I go? That's like that? And sometimes people are looking for what's real, you know, and many times I compare it to fast food You know it's weird because the last few years almost ever since maybe after COVID You started seeing a lot of mom-and-pop stores pop up again like they used to Little coffee shops little burger places little taco places little, you know And it wasn't for a minute there in the maybe the late 80s 90s 2000s Everything was like the same no matter what city you went to it was the same talk about same McDonald's same Starbucks
same Burger King same thing same thing But there was money in it. So people were buying into those franchises and say well, there's everybody's a McDonald's So let me open one in town, but after a while you get tired of it. You're just like I want a real burger I Want a real taco? I want some real I want some coffee that don't taste burnt And they start popping up and I believe in in the spirit People are gonna do that in cities across America people are sick and tired of the fast food gospel And people are gonna say where is it where it just served for real? and and I believe that there's gonna be a turn and and people are gonna look for that but it almost starts with us Because even if you're sitting here at part of house arrest and maybe you're not in leadership But what if there's a flood of people coming that don't know Jesus and they're gonna get to know you before they know me Well, guess what? You're the example now for them So we have to live according to this because we don't ever We don't ever want to make God look bad. I Don't want to make the Lord look bad. Do you? No, I want to exalt him I want to raise him up lift him up. I Want people to come up and be like man, what do you got? What why do you have this peace? Why do you have this a man because Jesus Jesus? He set me free But instead with people like this clown it makes people say I want nothing to do with Christianity because look at they're just a bunch of circuses we don't know Can't have that Okay So this verse here is one of my favorite. I say that all the time, but this is one of my favorite in verse 16 He tells Timothy this beautiful thing. He says great indeed. We confess is the mystery of godliness That he Jesus was manifested in the flesh Vindicated by the Spirit seen by angels proclaimed among the nations Believed on in the world and taken up in glory Oh In the message it says this
He appeared in a human body Was proved right by the invisible spirit was seen by angels He was proclaimed among all kinds of peoples believed in all over the world taken up into heavenly glory Why do I love this verse because this verse is saying that God was made into flesh Islam denies that Judaism denies that But the Bible says that he got the Creator the one that all things were made by him and for him That somehow he was born through Mary through the Virgin Mary and yes She was a virgin because the Bible says so because if she was born from the seat of a man He would have been born in sin, but he came through the Holy Spirit and Conceived in Mary and because of that God was manifested in the flesh He walked among us. It was the artist of the painting going into his own painting See this is what separates Christianity from everything else Don't ever allow somebody to tell you don't allow Muslims to tell you don't allow anybody else to tell you that oh, we all worship the same God Jesus says if you deny the son then you deny the father too So that's what separates us because we believe that God was manifested in the flesh See see here's the thing saying don't mind churches talking about God because God could be anything Heck our money with the all seen eye with the pyramids says in God we trust which God does the government trust though niche about confess that Jesus Christ is Lord same doesn't have a problem with us talking about God why do you think a lot of times that you have like the what's it called the inauguration of presidents many times and they'll have all these people come up these these spiritual people come up and they'll talk about God talk about God talk about God there's a pastor out of out of Sacramento they had him pray in a few years ago I don't even remember which president it was yeah pastor Rodriguez although I think he's a simply of God in Sacramento they asked them to pray the inauguration but they told him hey whatever you do we want to invite you just don't say Jesus you think he listened you could go back in YouTube and watch it at the Samuel Rodriguez yeah and he went on there and they told him not to say it and he said it man you can go back and watch it he
said he did this long prayer about God and then he goes in the name of Jesus and he just goes off and you know me so here's the thing that Satan doesn't want you to say the name because oh man at the name of Jesus demons tremble I'm getting excited here I'm told you I like this verse he was manifested in the flesh so that's the good verse okay chapter four verse one through five so it goes on and says this now the spirit talking about the Holy Spirit expressly says that in later times in the last days right how many of you believe we're in the last days okay so this pertains it now look what it says the Holy Spirit says that in later times some will depart from the faith by devoting themselves to deceitful spirits and teachings of demons so what do you think this guy bringing up a second wife it is blasphemy it's blasphemy Jesus says he's coming back for his bride not brides and a marriage actually represents Christ and the church he's not coming for church is he's coming for his church but look what happens is here's the thing right it is I was watching their testimony and and the wife the first wife well technically the only wife in God's eyes she's like you know my husband was saying about a saying and I didn't know I didn't know so I fasted and I prayed until the Lord told me himself that he was right and it's like here's the thing okay let me say this don't ever pray for something that the Bible already gives you the answer that's ridiculous what was she doing fasting and praying whether her husband sure have a second wife why are you asking why you asking God for an answer if the answer is already here God is not gonna go against his own word I quoted it the other on Sunday the Bible says that God's word is even above his name so God's not gonna go against his word so why are you praying for something that's already written why because that person that couple their own lustful desires are being led by and when you do that then you're being led by deceitful spirits look what it says it says in the later times they will depart by the faith by devoting themselves to deceitful spirits and teachings of demons in the message it says the spirit makes it clear that as time goes on some are going to give up on the faith and chase after demonic illusions put forth by professional
liars man that's pretty clear right it's pretty clear verse two how are they gonna do it look what it says through the insincerity of liars whose consciences are seared who forbid marriage and require abstinence from foods that God created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and know the truth verse four for everything created by God is good and nothing is to be rejected if it is received with thanksgiving for it is made holy by the word of God and prayer. Let's read that in the message. their capacity for truth. Think about that. Have you ever met a liar that they're, they lie so much they don't even know the truth is anymore? Yeah, it's lies upon lies upon lies and they don't even know how to get out of it. It's a sport. So that's, that's what he's saying right here is that the lies are upon lies upon lies. They will, these liars have lied so well and for so long, they've lost their capacity for truth. I have met people in my life that they lie so much they lie for things they don't have to lie about. It's weird. Yeah, they're just like, why did you have to lie for that? That's weird, why did you lie? They're just, they're just such liars. It says, they will tell you not to get married. They'll tell you not to eat this or that food. Perfectly good food God created to be eaten heartily and with thanksgiving by believers who know better, everything God created is good. I sure hope so because I had some pork belly the other night. So good. I know it was good. I'm just saying because they didn't eat swine.
Remember the Jewish people had certain foods and that's why when Peter had that dream and the animal, I think there was a pork belly in there and God says what God has created, what God says is clean, let it be clean. When God created is good to be received with thanks, nothing is to be sneered at and thrown out. God's word in our prayers make every item in creation holy. But he's talking about not just food, he's talking about everything. The things that we, that we take in, things that, you know, to do things right, to do things in a clear conscience, not to follow after lies, not to follow people that have devoted themselves to deceitful spirits and teachings of demons. You know what that scripture lets us know? That means there's demons trying to teach, right? I don't, I don't understand, you know, I don't understand how someone can be behind a pulpit and not have the fear of God. That makes zero sense to me because I don't fear the congregation. I fear God because he knows all things we can't hide from him. Matter of fact, he says what's done in the dark will be brought to the light. See, I don't like humble pie. It doesn't taste good. So I want to live my life that's according, where I don't have to eat humble pie. I just, huh? See, where's the mic guy? That way online can hear you. I just have a really hard time understanding a church full of people that are there applauding and following and doesn't have the discernment to walk away from something like that and can support that. Yeah. That's what I had really. That no, it's not. It's not Mormon.
So what we have learned is that he's been teaching this slowly to his congregation for the last five years. So that, that is, what's that called when you do that? No, no, when you, when you, oh, when you, you're grooming. Yeah. It's like he was grooming his congregation. Some, I found out that over the years as he's gone talking about it, more and more people have left. But I'm not talking about just this pastor. I'm talking about a lot of, as a whole, there's so many, there's just been just a lot of different pastors that have, that have just made a mockery of the things of God. And I see large, large congregations that just feed into it and feed into it and feed into it. And I just, to me, it just, it's grieving. It doesn't make sense. It's, it's, it's such grieving. You know, how somebody can be so blinded to it, and that's-- Blinded, yeah? Blind, and just, if somebody, if you know the word, and that's the problem, is because they're not reading the word for themselves, they're not, they're relying on, I believe that they're just coming and relying on what they're learning instead of opening up for themselves, and learning, and being Bereans for themselves. And I think that that's what the problem is. - Well, the book of Acts, I'm glad you brought up Bereans, and the book of Acts, everywhere Paul went, he would share the gospel, and people would reject him.
But then he went to the town of Berea. He shared the gospel with them through the Scriptures, and they didn't reject him. The Bible says that the Bereans, after Paul taught, he left, and they checked the Scriptures to see if what he said was true. And then when they realized it was, many of them got saved. So have a Berean, a heart of a Berean, you know? Dale, are you gonna say something? - Yeah, yes, well, sorry about that. Anyway, a lot of things that the pastor has said, you know, I was raised Catholic. And what I wanna say is, I was taught everything that was just said about not eating certain foods, couldn't eat, I used to eat fish on Friday, telling my sins to a man in the box. And what I wanna bring out is, if the priest got up there and said a certain thing, I wanna clap for it, 'cause that's what I was raised to do. My parents taught me to go to this church and this and that. It wasn't until I really met Jesus that I found out the truth. The blinds were lifted from me and praise God, you know? And that's what I'm saying. These people are like Sharon was saying, they're blind. And that's what makes the cross so important, because I heard about Jesus before I was gonna take my life after returning from the Vic. Now, I heard about the cross, I've heard about Jesus.
I said, "Well, I'm gonna see if he's real." So that's why, especially us, tell 'em, tell 'em about the cross of Jesus. Tell 'em, give 'em a way out, you know? 'Cause a lot of 'em been raised in that type of environment and they're blind that they can't see it. I couldn't see it. I had to get knocked off the stool. That's what Jesus did it to be. And then when I got up, I was saved. I mean, that's all, really, you know? That's how Sharon was saying, you can't understand how people would do that. Well, I can. - Yeah. - Because that's the way they were trained. That's the way they were taught. Ever since they were little. - Hey, man. - And us being Latins, you know what I'm talking about. - Yeah. - Okay. - Thank you. You know, I've said this before. You know, one of the things that I found freedom in Christ, like I think all of us, when we say man, you know, the Lord set me free. I think that matters. I think that's a different definition to all of us. 'Cause some of us were addicted to drugs
and God set you free. Some of us are addicted to alcohol and Jesus set you free. So many people for different reasons say, man, the Lord set me free. I didn't have an alcohol problem. I didn't have a drug problem. I had a bunch of other problems. But one of the major problems, I think that is almost the root of my other problems was that I would live a double triple life. I was somebody else to my family, somebody else to my friends, somebody else to the mother of my kids, so I was all over the place. I was like three, four, five different people. So when I say the Lord set me free, that's what I'm talking about. So why would I want to leave that, then to have that here? That makes zero sense to me. When I say the Lord set me free, it's because I'm able to be myself. I'm able to be, you know, if you watch our YouTube, whatever, there's a reason why I don't edit like the prison stuff, like I'm like, man, if I'm yawning, sometimes we bump heads on the video. I don't edit that stuff out because I'm not gonna be fake. I'm gonna be who I am and that's it. You know, but that's why I say that the Lord set me free and I don't want to live a life like that. It's exhausting.
It's exhausting to be fake, you know, and it's tiring and it's still freeing to just be you and Christ, to allow Christ to shape us. And if I'm just saying, man, if that is you, if that's part of you, just repent. Repent and say, Lord, I don't want to be two people out to three people, four people. I want to be the same person I am all the time. I want to be free, you know? So if we go on to verse six, he says, if you put these things before the brothers, you will be a good servant of Christ Jesus being trained in the words of the faith and of the good doctrine that you have followed. So this is everything we just read. So basically he's telling list, listen, teach the brothers this. And in the message, it says, you've been raised on the message of the faith and have followed sound teachings now pass on this council to the followers of Jesus there. And you'll be a good servant of Jesus. So this is what he's telling Timothy. He's like, listen, all these things that I'm telling you, you have been faithful in it. Now teach it to them. How can we teach it unless we're following it? You know, there's a reason Paul says, follow me as I follow Christ. We need to be good examples. You know, and it's like, I've said it before, I've said, you know, you can teach somebody how to preach, but you can't teach somebody to have a dignified life. You can't teach somebody principles. I will take somebody that has principles and needs some learning on how to present the gospel rather than somebody that can present the gospel in good ways, but their life is wicked. In verse seven, look what he says, have nothing to do with the reverent, silly myths, rather train yourself for godliness. And the message is to stay clear of silly stories that get dressed up as religion.
Exercise daily in God, no spiritual flabbiness, please. And it says in verse that eight, yeah, for a while, bodily training is of some value. Godliness is a value in every way as it holds promise for the present life and also for the life to come. So you guys know the Olympics started in in Greece, right? So they had something, our Olympics now comes from the time of the New Testament. So they would train and train and train to see who's the best. That's why the Olympics are very, you know, Greek oriented. So there was a lot of people that were into being fit and being at the best of things. That's why he's using that example. It's interesting because he says, yeah, you know what? Yeah, OK, it's good. You're healthy. Cool. You're buff. Nice. That's why he says for bodily training, is it some value? Paul's like, OK, all right, you're looking good. He says, but godliness is a valuable and is value in every way as it holds promise for the present life and for the life to come being healthy. It's good. We want to be healthy in this life, but being healthy in the spirit carries over from this life into eternity. That's why in the message, he says, workouts in the gym are useful, but a disciplined life in God is far more so making you fit both today and forever. So then in nine, it says, the same is trustworthy and deserving of full acceptance. Verse 10, for to this end, we toil and strive because we have our hope set on the living God who is the savior of all people, especially of those who believe in the message. It says making you fit both today and forever. You can count on this, take it to heart.
That is why we've thrown ourselves into this venture. So totally we're banking on the living God, savior of all men and women, especially believers. So, so he's, he's pouring into Timothy telling him, this is how church should be. This is how you need to pick your leaders. This is how the leader should be. This is how they should live. So all of these are kind of instructions on how to have a healthy functional church. But then he says this in verse 11, he says command and teach these things. And the message is just get the word out, teach all these things. So he said, you got to teach this. You got to teach this. You got, you got to show them. And then see, Timothy was a young man. >> And I have -- they just -- And maybe I think some were treating him bad because he was young. The reason I say that is because verse 12. Paul says, let no one despise you for your youth. Let no one despise you for your youth, but set the believers an example of speech in conduct. In love in faith and in purity. In the message, it says, don't let anyone put you down because you're young. Teach believers with your life. Look at that. So before anything, he doesn't say Paul doesn't say, hit Timothy, just give him amazing sermons. No, he says, teach him with your life. Let your life be a walking sermon. Let your life be a walking teaching. Teach with your life and by word, by demeanor, by the way you are, by the way you show yourself, by the way you walk and live. He says, by love also, by faith and by integrity. So again, you want to know those are things of underlying right there, guys. If you want to grow and mature in your walk, I would underline the word right here.
Be an example in speech in conduct in love in faith and in purity. Five things you want to you want to be a good example. Then do it in the way you live, the way you talk and the way you conduct yourself and how you love others and your faith in Christ and in purity. How do you live your life? Do you live your life set apart for the Lord? He's given instructions of how to be a good leader. And we, I don't know, we can't ignore that. So once he says that, I'm going to read 12 again, let no one despise you for your youth. Set the believers an example in speech in conduct and love and faith in purity. 13 says, until I come, this is Paul saying that, he says, devote yourself to the public reading of scripture to exhortation and to teaching. So this is why our Bible studies are line by line. Because if I sat here for an hour and gave just opinion and never opened this book, I'd be wasting your time. So, but at the same time, I don't, can you imagine we had a Bible study and all I did was read scripture and said nothing about it. You're not, you're going to leave if you didn't understand the chapter, you're going to leave not understanding, understanding the chapter. That's why he says here, devote yourself to the public read, read scripture to exhortation. What does that mean to, to exhortation means to encourage. So Paul is telling Timothy read the word, encourage the people, exhort them and to teach three things, read the scripture, encourage people and teach them, read the word. So he's telling them how to have church straight up. He's like read the word, you know, so I don't know where this came from. I don't know where it became a thing for pastors to read one scripture in the beginning of the sermon and that's it. I don't know where that came from. I don't understand it. Now, if don't get me wrong, I think you can preach on one verse because some verses are so rich. When you really talk about it and dive into the context and even the Greek and the Hebrew and break that down. And if that happens to turn into a message, but you're on that one verse, praise God. I'm not talking about that. I think that's awesome. But when you literally say a verse and then the rest is just other stuff that's going against this. What does he tell them? Let's read it again.
He says 13 until I come, devote yourself to the public reading of scripture to exhortation, which is encouraging and to teaching. And then he says in 14, do not neglect the gift you have. We're about to have a pinholders meeting November 21st. And those of you that took the six classes. You didn't take the six classes just to take the six classes, get a pen and sit here. Because it, because of 14, do not neglect the gift you have. Everybody has a gift, and everyone in the church can benefit from your gift. Your gift is not meant to exalt you. Your gift is so you can encourage others. And some of you have an amazing gift, and it can't be laid dormant. It has to be put to use for the church, for the body, for the believers. You know, so do not neglect the gift that you have, which was given you. He's talking to Timothy, but I believe the Holy Spirit is talking to us. Do not neglect the gift you have, which was given you by prophecy when the counsel of elders laid their hands on you. He says, practice these things. Okay, there's another one. Practice these things. I believe that I remember hearing this story about Mike Tyson. I don't know if it's true, but some guy, some trainer, some coach saw Mike Tyson in a street fight. And he says, man, you're a good fighter, but I can make you a great fighter. You might know how to fight on the street, but I'll show you how to be a champion in the ring. But you can't take a street fighter and make him a world-class champion unless he trains, unless he practices. You know, the first stories that Michael Jordan didn't make his basketball team in high school. Michael Jordan didn't make the team. You know what he did? He went home and practice and practice and practice and practice. He didn't let a setback like that destroy him or break him. And now you think of basketball, you're going to think Michael Jordan. So why do I say that? Because if you have a gift, now he says, practice these things. If you're called to preach, if you're called to teach, if you're called to evangelize, if you're amazing with kids, like I would be horrible with what Jessica does with the kids. I would be a horrible teacher of kids. I don't know how to talk to kids. I don't know how to talk to kids. I get real quiet around your kids because I don't know how to talk to them. Some people, they just know how to talk to kids. I'm like, how did you make them like you? I don't get it. I don't have that. You know, I don't have that. I made, I made your daughter cry.
I mean, I cry. I made your daughter laugh because nobody was around. So I started dancing and she started, she was crying. And there was no adults around. And I started acting real silly. She saw me because I don't mind being silly in front of my wife. And she stopped crying. And she just looked at me like, what's he doing? You know, so I guess I can make babies stop crying. But the moment she called, I think she told your wife, I stopped, you know, like that frog that dances until somebody comes and he just, that was me. I was just like, hey, I gotta be serious. You know, but he says practice these things. And look at this, the next part of that verse, practice these things, immerse yourself in them. If you're a teacher, if you're there for children or for youth or for evangelizing or whatever, if you have a gift, if you have a heart to evangelize, that don't mean you're good at it. How do I know that? Because God told me to preach. And because God told me to preach, I thought I was going to be awesome. And I remember he told me I was in solitary confinement. God said, I'm a preach. I started writing sermons and writing sermons. I'll send them to my parents. They're probably horrible sermons, but my parents would be like, wow, that was awesome. You know, and so then I finally got to prison. And I was there for three months. And when they asked me to preach, because they would take turns preaching on the yard. And I didn't say nothing. I'm like, God, I'm not going to say nothing. If they asked me, it's you, because I'm not going to say nothing. And then they finally went to the brother that was leading, his name was Mario, he says, hey, you know, I want you to preach on Thursday. I'm like, finally, oh man, this thing's in turn to revival up in here. Everybody's going to get saved in this yard, because I had been practicing and practicing within myself. And he's like, you're going to preach Thursday. I'm like, whoo, man, doesn't it be fire? Holy goes fire in his place. Even the correction offers are going to get saved. I had all these papers and everything. I'm ready. And there was no pulpit. So I wrote the garbage can with the little floppy lids, but the top was flat. And I'm like, that's my pulpit. Put my Bible there and my notes. And I put And, and that was the best part because it just got worse after that. I stuttered through the whole thing. I kept losing my place. I didn't know what I was doing. Man, I got so discouraged. I'm like, Lord, I know you're a perfect God, but I think you were wrong.
When you called me to preach, I was so discouraged. It was horrible, it was really bad. And then after I preached, Mario comes up to me and he goes, hey, he goes, I want you to preach next Thursday. And I'm like, Mario, you don't got to be nice to me, man. I sucked, man. Come on. It's all good, man. Just let, let the other guys, he goes, no, I want you to preach. And I'm like, it was horrible. And he says, the Lord told me that I'm supposed to teach you how to preach. And you have a calling to preach. So I want you to preach next Thursday. So just because I had the call, don't mean I knew how. So I didn't know, I didn't realize there was a, what's it called, a learning curve? I didn't know that. I thought if God calls me to preach, he's, you know, all of a sudden, give me these eloquent words. If God called me to evangelize, he's going to give me these eloquent words. If God called me to teach children, he's going to give me this. It's not that way. It's the ugly stage. Yeah. So every painting, guys, when I do paintings, I didn't know at first, I would have a bunch of paintings that I will start and I would never end because it would look ugly. And then I learned from an artist, he says, every painting has an ugly stage. First you, you have a blank canvas, then you start to kind of lay your painting down. And at that point, everything in you want you to quit because you're like, this
thing looks horrible, but you got to get past that. You got to push through it. And all of a sudden you have something beautiful. And a lot of us in our gifts, many of us in our gifts, we've never pushed through because we only get to the ugly stage and we give up and we start second guessing yourself and thinking like this, God's not calling me for this. This isn't for me. I'm telling you, push through it because scripture says practice these things, immerse yourself in them and push through it. Because you know who else the enemy wants to come to? See, God didn't call you for that. God didn't call you for that. Huh? Yeah, exactly. So in the message, it says, um, cultivate these things, immerse yourself in them. And then it says here in 10 and. Verse 10. Well, what is that? 15, sorry. It says, practice these things, immerse yourself in them so that all may see your progress. Look at that. People will see your progress. It says, keep a close watch on yourself and on the teaching persist in this. For by doing so, you will save both yourself and your hearers. And the message is, is keep a firm grasp on both your character and your teaching. Don't be diverted. Just keep at it, both you and those who hear you will experience salvation. I wanted to quit guys at that time and Mario says, I want you to come again. And you know what happened next Thursday?
It was still horrible. And I just, and every Thursday, he's like, I want you to do it again. I want you to do it again. And after the next day, he was sick with me. He was do it like this or say this or don't do this. How about you? And he would just coach me. He helped me. This is another inmate. Yeah, it was teachable. I love this brother. I love his brother. And, and, and I was like, he was like a magnet. I wanted to be next to him. I wanted to be by him. I wanted to learn and glean from him. And one day they came like at three in the morning and they came and took a whole bunch of inmates and they took Mario. He was our leader. He was my leader and they took him. And he was the leader of the group and, and I ain't gonna lie, man. I was crying. I was crying. I felt like like they had just ripped something from me. Because remember it, before that I was in solitary. I didn't have nobody. And now I had Mario and then they took him amongst a bunch of people. I had him as far as me so I was there for three months without preaching then three months with him preaching and He kept telling me David you got to be ready David You got to be ready David you got to be ready and he was showing me show me show me and then they took him
And I was crying at the table and all the brothers that were there longer than me that we're praying and all of them Basically said because I was like who's gonna lead us now And all of them were like well, we were just in prayer David and the Lord told all of us individually that you are And I'm just like I'm the new guy They're like but Mario saw something in you You know and he ended up getting deported. He was from Mexico. I've never seen him again I don't even know how to find him, you know, but He encouraged me I Wouldn't be here preaching to you if it wasn't for him telling me not to quit Dale Yes, I have something to say might help somebody. I don't know but when I was first got saved. I Want it everything I can get from the Lord and I heard people speaking in tongues. That's why I want that I was 22 years old and So I went to my pastor and co-passure so I want I want that gift. How do I get it? He says all you got to do is ask Jesus for it That's all Yes, so I did Lord Jesus. I want to speak to give the tongues give the tongues and I got these two words that came I still remember sontakai sontakai and and the Presby the pastor and co-passure told me Jesus told me to tell you to keep on saying him two words and he's going to multiply And he did and it's one of the strongest gifts you could have Because there's times I didn't even know what to pray for. So that's when I go in my gift. I speak in the unknown tongue and If you ever want that gift You got the pastor here. You got Sharon here. They could lay hands on you a pastor Al And you other believer he hasn't just asked Jesus for he'll give it to you Okay, that's all I'm going to say. [BLANK_AUDIO]
