An Example to Follow | Pastor Tim Payne

Hey, welcome to Momentum Church. We have an awesome message for you today. Come on. Don't you love that song? I woke up this morning and in bed, before I got out of bed, I began to just thank the Lord for some things, you know, that sometimes I forget. Sometimes I forget is aching for it. And how many of you got something to thank God about? How many are alive? How many are breathing? You got good health? Come on. You got a family that loves you? The devil wants us to focus on everything that's not right. But you know what? When we look at what is right, we got a lot to be thankful for. What I know personally is when I begin to thank God, it puts me in position to praise God. For you'll never praise Him if you're not willing to thank Him. You'll never see how big He is

if you can't even realize what He's done. Does that make sense? God's been so good to us. I don't know about you, but sometimes I go back and I remember. I remember where I was when God found me. I remember how low I was when God rescued me. I mean, God had to bend down to pick me up. You know what I'm talking about? When we just remember how much God loves us, it'll put us in the right position. Got a great message for you today, and we're glad that you're here today. Turn to someone besides you. You don't know how bad they need encouragement. Michael Jordan said this. I have it written. It's in my desk. It said, he said, Michael Jordan said, everyone breathing needs encouragement. Everyone breathing. So this few seconds might be exactly what that person next to you needs, and you don't even have a clue. So I want you to turn around and say, good morning. All right, would you do that real quick? And then we're gonna jump in. So good, guys. You can be seated. I think I told you I'm glad that you're here.

We're so glad that you're here today. Got a message for you out of John's gospel. John's gospel. It's in the New Testament, Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. We're gonna go to John 13 today. But I wanna start with this question. I wanna start with this question. And the question is, when it comes to God's house, this is God's house. If you're a Christian, this is his temple. He lives inside of you. The spirit of God lives inside of you, but this is God's house. Now, I don't know about your house, but in our house, my wife drinks coffee. She likes that coffee. Anybody here like coffee? All right, come on. I asked last gathering, I gotta do it again. Anyone had one cup of coffee so far today? Anybody had two cups already? Do I have anyone here who's had three cups already? Anybody, four or more? Come on, some of y'all. We still got people going. Some of y'all, you're good people, man. You're good people. You know that like on the seventh day when God rested, God had coffee and he's like, that's good. Yeah, that's good.

When it comes to God's house, I got a question. And today is one of these messages that may step on your toes. How many of you love those messages? You lie. No, how many, you know, like I wanna be encouraged. I'm gonna encourage you today, but I'm gonna tell you this message is convicting and it's in love. It's not in hate. It's not in anger. It's in love because God has so much for you. But this question is when it comes to God's house, are you a contributor or are you a consumer? They're two different things. There's two, you can't do both. You can't straddle the fence when it comes to God's house. And this message is for everyone. If you're a Christian, this message ought to convict you. If you're not a Christian yet, this message is a great introduction to who Jesus is, because we're gonna see Jesus as the greatest leader ever because he modeled servant leadership, servant leadership. So we're gonna look at this today, but I want you to wrestle. And if you and I were having coffee together and I could ask you a couple of questions, the truth is this would be one of the questions, a keystone question. This would be a question I'd wanna ask you.

When it comes to God's house, are you a contributor or a consumer? And when God birthed me, The vision of this church in my heart, it was during a time of fasting and during a time of prayer and there were moments when I could not write fast enough because God was forming this church. I couldn't sleep. I was like, God, what do you want this church to look like? Anyone ever worked with concrete? You know the importance of forming it because you got to shape it because it's going to settle. And you don't want to just go wherever it wants. There's a form that you're pouring it into. You want it to look a certain way to accomplish its purpose. And when God was forming this church, one of the things that I did is I wrote down things I love about church and things I, about church, things I don't like about church. And one of them was when it came to serving, you either saw a church that was so heavy about serving within the walls of the church, which newsflash, like when you're coming here for a while, I hope that you go from that's the church I go to to that's my church. You know, it's not like, you know, that's the woman I live with. It's like, that's my wife. You know, you know, you know, that's the gym I go to. That's my gym.

That's my coach. There's ownership there, right? And with ownership comes accountability. And sometimes we don't want the accountability. So we just pass on the ownership. You with me? But I'd ask you that question, which one are you? Where do you fit in when it comes to God's house? And as a Christian, I know God wants us to serve. But I also noticed something about churches that then there were churches that they would talk about, you need to serve here at church, but they never talk about serving the world. They never do anything outside the walls of the church. And I was like, that's not right. But then I also observed churches that would just talk about go out, go out, go out, but they never talked about serving in the church. And so I was like, Lord, I believe what you're speaking to me is you are birthing a church that will do both, do both. Let your light so shine before men that they may see your good works and give you all the glory. Nope. And glorify your father, which is in heaven. People ought to see our good works because faith without works is dead. They ought to see our good works and it ought to point to our father, which is in heaven.

Are you with me? And then the goodness of God should bring people to repentance. The goodness of God, not my judgmental attitude, the goodness of God leads men and women to repentance. That's what we need. Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good. I feel like preaching one more time. Can I preach today? Come on. Now we're in John's gospel and I gotta speed up because I preach. I stayed on track early gathering and then last gathering, I went way off. I went way off. On message, felt like they just need a little extra preaching. You know, we hit resistance and I'm like, I'm here for it. I just kind of went in for it. We'll see how that goes. John's gospel. John was the disciple. He always said the disciple whom Jesus loved. It's how he referred to himself. The disciple whom Jesus loved. And Jesus had three of his disciples were his inner circle. I hope you have an inner circle. If you're in leadership, you need an inner circle. You need an inner circle.

Jesus had an inner circle, Peter, James, and John. And kind of like Michael Jordan would get the ball, LeBron would get, right? And you just talk about these athletes put the ball in their hands, right? Because there's some people like put the ball in their hands. This is not everyone touches the ball. This is, we got to score or we're not gonna win. Put the ball in their hands. And Jesus knew the ball need to be in their hands for Peter would preach Pentecost. James would lead the church in Jerusalem. And John, God had real big plans for John. And so I'd like to think of John, not just as like an egomaniac who is just like, hey, I don't know if y'all know or not, but I'm the guy, I'm the disciple. I'm not Peter, not even James. I'm the disciple whom Jesus loves. But I think he relished his relationship with his Lord. I think he knew he had something special with Jesus. John's the only one didn't die for his faith. They tried. Every disciple, like, why would you die for a lie? Every disciple. they were martyred for their faith people said we will kill you we will drag you till your limbs fall off we will cut your head off we will feed you to lions we will put on us we will kill you and every one of them said that's fine I cannot deny him I saw him I heard him I walked with him I talked with him

he's God take my body but you can't take my soul maybe a day in America where we need that kind of faith and Jesus is filling the weight of this moment and he is sitting around a table in the culture back in those days the table below not high and we're tabletops high tops you know these were the tables were low and they would sit on their bum they recline on each other they just sit and this was the meal and Jesus knew this was the last moment they'd have together in graduations coming up we have a graduate some of y'all are graduates getting ready with a college or high school you know you go to camp and we say we'll never all be together in this room again and that's one of those sayings if you're a teacher and you say to your class we'll never all be together right right and Jesus knows this moment is huge because Jesus is going to depend on them to get the gospel to the world there's 12 around the table in Jesus 13 and one of them is going to betray Jesus and his name is and he is there he is there and Jesus understands that your last words are really important and he understands that our words carry weight how many know that as a leader your words carry weight how many know as a parent like your word how many know as a friend your words carry great weight Jesus knows this and he steps up to this moment aren't you thankful we have a Savior he didn't run from the moment no one had to go find him let's go to John's gospel John 13 let's go through 1 verse 1 through 17 we'll read about half the chapter before the Passover celebration and if I had an hour I'd tell you more about the Passover celebration but before the Passover celebration Jesus knew his hour had come now this was huge because now we're at the end of his ministry but if you go back to the first miracle the beginning of his ministry where did he perform his first miracle the wedding they ran out of and a woman who was his mother came to him and said we have a problem we've run out of wine they have no more wine and Jesus turns to his mom respectfully and he says my hour has not yet but now he's saying my hours come my hours come to leave the world and return to the Father he had loved his disciples during his ministry on earth and he loved him to the very end it's one thing to love the little

baby when they're born it's another thing to love them when they're a teenager and how many remember you being a teenager how many remember your parents hopefully loving you through those teenage years because not easy and it certainly hadn't got easier and I don't know it's gonna get easier are you with me how many are thankful for a spouse who's love you to the end a spouse who stay with you even when you're kind of in a rut in a funk he loved him to the end and when when John says he loved him remember John loves that word love he said Jesus loved us he loved us sorry the little windscreen fell off not sure where it is it's MIA but we good loved him till the end loved him to the very end it was time for supper and the devil had already prompted Judas by the way the devil's ready to prompt you the devil's ready to tempt you if he tried to tempt Jesus don't think for a second he's not gonna try to tempt you and don't think for a second he don't know what kind of candy you like are you sugar you know you sugar salty like sweet or salty he knows and he's ready to prompt you to go out and lose yourself and and you don't have to listen that station we got XM radio we ain't stuck what do we want you know you can listen to something different and he's gonna betray him Jesus knew the father had given him authority Jesus had his identity in place do you your identity comes from the father not your father maybe didn't have a good father maybe had a bad father maybe trying to recover from the lack of a father Can I tell you something Jesus says come to me all of you he wants everybody the dirty and the clean all of you that are tired you're worn out of religion he said I'll give you rest there is a heavenly father that can help you and he's a father to the fatherless you didn't have a father you didn't have a good father let father God teach you what Abba is all about let him heal you let him love you let him carry you let him embrace you ain't no one like our father and this is where identity comes from if you're looking if you're lost if you lost your identity you're looking for identity you need to look to the father that's what I say the heavenly father our heavenly father which art in heaven that father he knew that his father given him authority over

everything and that he had come from God and he would return to God this is what Jesus knew which is why Jesus was able to be calm in the chaos the fact that we know that we belong to God ought to help us be calm in the middle of our chaos when business is at an all-time stressful high when employees are acting up or not showing up calm in the chaos and they would take Jesus and they would try they put Jesus on trial y'all can you imagine that they put Jesus on trial they'd mock him spit on him beat him they crucify him they do all these things to Jesus but he knew that all authority on in heaven and on earth had been given to him so he didn't have to be he didn't have to pretend he didn't have to fake it till he make it because God already gave it to him that's that's where confidence comes from he had come from God he'd returned so now he gets up from the table and he takes off his robe now he's rabbi I want you to understand something in biblical times when these kids when these kids were young they would memorize the Torah the books of Moses Moshe the law the penitent whatever you want to call it Genesis Exodus Leviticus numbers in Deuteronomy and most of them would have it memorized by like age 5 age 5 and a rabbi would walk and a rabbi would say I'm not sure about you guys well Jimmy maybe maybe Jimmy can follow me and be like me I think he has what it takes one day at such a young age and they would take him as a at a young age and they would follow their rabbi and their rabbi would teach them so that one day they would also be the rabbi that would teach others that would choose are you with me all Jesus disciples had been passed over you ever felt like you've been passed over looked over people didn't see the good in you they saw the rough never saw the diamond saw the sand never saw the pearl mm-hmm and now Jesus is there and Jesus has surrounded himself with misfits misfits he believes in and he knew that they could do what he does and so he's got to teach him one more lesson that's a big lesson and the lesson would last a lifetime how do we know doubting Thomas took the gospel to India that's how we know I hope that's not my clock I just getting started she got up from the table he got up from the table no she there it was a he he got up from the table took off his robe he wrapped a towel

around his waist and they would look at Jesus as their teacher their master day their rabbi but now he's taken off what everyone sees on the outside so he could show him what's actually on the inside his heart and he bends down and he pours water into a bowl into a basin when he does this Peter speaks up now Peter is the oldest Peters the leader Peter James and John they're the inner circle they get to go on trips the rest of the disciples don't get to go on they get more time of Jesus because as a good leader Jesus knows these are my top 20% I'm gonna focus 80% on my top 20% I'm gonna get maximum impact are you with me that's what we're talking about here and so now Peter who's the leader he he's gonna speak and sometimes it's good and sometimes this is foot in his mouth how many identify with Peter come on come on here we go and so Peter speaks up and I think there's a little humor here Peter's like Lord you go you really gonna wash my feet like maybe Peter had the stinky like the stankiest feet that's that stinky like takes all maybe you had the worst smelling feet and all the disciples knew it Jesus was God but he was also man and you would walk everywhere You went and there was being dirt all day, mud and other stuff you could imagine. And the servant would stand like, Josh is standing at the door. The servant would stand there. And then whenever you'd entered the house, kind of like culture in the Eastern countries, you don't take your shoes into the house. I've been to China twice, you don't take your shoes off outside. Cause you've been walking in who knows what, and we don't want the who knows what in our house. So leave the who knows what on the outside. And in biblical times, they're like,

you're clean, but your feet ain't. You ain't coming to dinner, cause I don't want your stinky feet next to me, cause we're all sitting on the floor. You with me? And so Peter's like, hey Jesus, you can wash my feet. What? You can wash my feet? And Jesus replied, you don't understand what I'm doing. You don't understand right now what I'm doing, but one day you will. Amen. And then Peter protested, no, he exclaimed. He said, you're not washing my feet. And Jesus said something significant that still speaks to us today. He said, unless I wash you, you won't belong to me. Religion can't wash you. Being a good person can't wash you, make you right with God. Tradition, well, I'mma insert whatever denomination, whatever church you were born into, a family that goes to this church, a Catholic, a Methodist, a Presbyterian, a Baptist, that don't get nobody to heaven. Jesus said, unless I wash you, unless I wash you, only Jesus can wash you. There's not a person or a Pope. There's not a church that can wash you.

Only Jesus can wash you. Without the shedding of blood, there's no forgiveness of sins. If you've not been to Calvary, and if the blood hasn't cleansed you, you don't belong to him. You can think you're a good person, but it's not about being good that gets you to heaven. Only God's good, truly. We're sinners, we mess up, God doesn't, he's holy. Jesus says, unless I wash you, you won't belong to me. And how does Peter respond? Wash me, not just my hands, wash my head, wash my feet. Wash me, Jesus, wash me. He's ready to be washed. Peter remembered where he was before Christ found him. Peter remembered the times he had messed up. I mean, Peter messes up afterwards. He's gonna deny him three times. He's gonna try to kill a man with a sword. He's gonna protect Jesus. A lion don't need to be protected, but he's gonna swing at a head and get an ear. He's gonna mess up. He's gonna curse to a middle school teenager and say, I don't know him. He's gonna really mess up, but Jesus is okay. Cause watch this, Jesus is clean, but he knows we're dirty. And we can't clean up ourselves like a baby.

Little baby can't clean themselves up. They need a parent to clean. God cleans us up. You don't get cleaned up to come to God. I come to God just as I am without one plea, but that your blood was shed for me. Lamb of God, I come. I need you to do for me, but I can never do for myself. Peter says, wash me. And then Jesus says this, he replies, a person who is bathed all over doesn't need to wash. Listen up, he said, you know, just disciples except for the feet to be entirely clean. And he said, you disciples, you are clean, but not all of you. For Jesus knew who would betray him. Of course, Judas would betray him. That's what he meant when he said, not all of you are clean. Now, verse 12, after washing their feet, he put on his robe again and he sat down and he asked, do you understand what I was doing? Now, this is important. When the teacher asks a question, there's a reason. My dad was a teacher, a pastor, a principal. And dad was like, Tim, listen, if a teacher ever repeats something, pay attention. Better pay attention, better write it down. Better highlight it. If a teacher asks you a question, you better pay attention.

Then later coaching, you know, if your girlfriend or your wife asks you a question, you better pay attention. He says, do you understand what I was doing? And he says, you guys call me teacher and Lord. That's what you call me. And he says, and you are right. You're right, because that's who I am. And we can preach a whole message on I am that I am. Who do men say that I am? Moses said, who do I say? The Israelites, who sent me? What am I supposed to say? Tell them I am that I am. He said, that's because I am teacher. I am Lord. And you are right. And since you're Lord and teacher, Lord, Implicates obedience. That's what Lord, Savior's like, like he's my Savior, but Lord means like I'm walking in obedience. He my master. It's like with your dog, when you train your dog, you expect your dog to obey. It's like Jesus saying like, y'all belong to me. You're my kids. You God's property. I expect you obey because I'm your Lord. You with me? And so now he says, since I'm your Lord and teacher, and I've washed your feet, you ought to wash each other's feet. You ought to do it. And he says this, I've given you an example to follow. I titled the talk, an example to follow. Some things are caught, not just taught. And Jesus is trying to communicate to different creatives so that they can understand the importance of what he's doing. For somebody, he's teaching and hoping that they get what he's teaching, what is taught, but he's hoping other people will pick up and it will be caught. Not for a day, not for a decade, for a lifetime. What I'm doing for you, this is the goat, the goat. Like Michael Jordan will bow down one day to him. Michael Jackson will bow down one day. The Beatles will bow down one day to Jesus. George

Washington and on and on and on and on. Every movie star, they're going to bow down to him. This is the goat, the greatest of all time. And he said, what you're seeing me do, I need you to do that. That's what I need. And, and, and this is so important to leadership that the next wave, the next group, the next class, the next child, they get it. This is what equipping looks like. I'm doing it. You're watching it. You're experiencing it. Now you're going to go do it. It's an example to follow. Do as I've done unto you. Verse 16, I tell you the truth. Slaves are not greater than their masters. They're not greater, nor is a messenger more important than the one who sends the message. They're not. Now that you know these things, God will bless you if you do them. If it's conditional, that means you got to do it. If you do them, if you do them, I need to volunteer real quick. I saw Tim, come on up here, but don't talk. This is my message. Come on, Tim. Brian, come on. I love you, man. I love you. That's why, that's why I teach you, cause you know I love you. Jesus does something that catches everyone off guard. First gathering, our neighbor who we were next door neighbors, then they moved to Texas. Now they moved back. They came up here. Nathan came up here and he had no clue. And it was cool. Cause we got to bring them to Christ. So cool. So awesome. Got to bring them to Jesus, bring them to church. Got to baptize them. And I got to wash his feet. We were next door neighbors and now he lives right around the corner from us. We're neighbors again. God's just good like that. See, God sees your future and he's smiling in your present, in your present, because he knows that when you catch up to where he is in your future, you can be like, God did that. God already knew that. And now Jesus stoops to serve. When it comes to God's house, are you a contributor? Are you a consumer? If you're a Christian, if we're going to be like Jesus, which is what Christian means, Christ-like, then we're to be serving, not swerving. Serving, not swerving. You take your shoes off, please, and your socks. I'm gonna wash your feet. When we started the church, we were at the middle school. That was our third location. And, um, God gave me this idea and I went out and asked a homeless man to come to church. He said, I don't want to go to church. I said, I'll pay you. How's a hundred dollars sound? He said, sound like I'm going to church. That's what it sound like. I don't know where I'm going to get the hundred, but by faith, amen. He came and I asked him to stand outside the middle school for the, they did all the construction of the cafeteria for that. And he was standing outside and we were walking by and I, I wanted to see how mature our church was. We were six months old and I wanted to see if we knew what love was, who would look the other way and pretend they didn't see him.

And who would turn to him? Who are the good Samaritans and who are the hypocrites? So I stood outside and I watched, Pastor Tim! And I watched some of our people speak to him, I was so proud of them. God help me. I preached a message at the end of the message. I called him up on stage. He sat in the back. He stunk to high heaven. He looked just like he looked the day I talked to him. Got him lunch. Pulled him up on stage and I said, guys, this is James. Y'all don't know James, but James is my friend. I invited James here today to see how you treat him. I mean, it was like a vacuum. How many convictions fell, boy? You thought it rained last night, but it was, it was, it got hot quick. And I said, James, my friend, man. And then I said, man, James, I want to wash your feet. James was dirty. By the way, so were you. So was I before Christ washed us. That water was clean before I started washing. It got real dirty. I bent down to him just like I'm gonna wash your feet and I began to wash his feet. You know what I love about Jesus? What I love about Jesus is Jesus doesn't approach the mess like this. Father God, let this cup pass from me. Not what I want, what you want. Jesus, He came for the mess. He came to seek and save that which was lost. Jesus, this was the very purpose. He came. He came to His own. His own received Him not. He said go into the highways and the byways and the hedges. Invite everyone. Get the people that are too broken. Get the drunks here. Get the people that are so messed up emotionally and relationally and sexually. Get them here. I'm here for this moment. I didn't come for the people that don't need a doctor. I came for the sick. I came for the lost.

I came for the broken. And when we started this church, God was saying this is the church. Move to the mess. Don't tell me about your faith if it ain't dirty. Your faith better be dirty. Don't tell me what a great fisherman you are if you don't smell like fish. That was someone else's fish. Your hands don't smell like it. Dirty faith. And Jesus moved to the mess. And Jesus is washing Judas' feet. Knowing that Judas is getting ready to betray Him. Knowing what the devil said to him. Knowing what's in his heart. And just like when I was washing James' feet, I didn't have a washcloth that day. Just my hands. And the Holy Spirit was washing His feet. I was washing them like this. And the Spirit of God said to me on stage that day, I kid you not, the Holy Spirit said, wash in between his toes. And when I did, I don't know what it was, but it went clean. It was nasty. And the Lord was like, that was you, buddy. That was you, Tim. I'm thankful that He still washes what's in between the toes. And washed. Jesus washed. He washed the feet clean. Tim, you got pretty clean feet here, buddy. Love you, Tim. I can imagine Jesus saying, I love you, Peter. Oh, James. James, blessed are the feet of those that preach the gospel. Don't be ashamed of the gospel, James. It's the power of God to salvation everyone who believes. And I could imagine Him trying the feet of Judas. Saying, I love you, Judas. I love you, Judas. He washed all of the feet. He was demonstrating.

This was the one who had his feet washed with perfume. That took like a year's worth of income to purchase. And a woman who realized how dirty she was when He washed her. She took her beautiful hair and leveraged it to clean his feet. He should have been having his feet cleaned for they were getting ready to be pierced. But now he is washing feet. This was the dirtiest job. This was like if you're the rookie. You clean up. It's a rookie's job. It's a servant standing at the door who people didn't know their name. And Jesus was saying, this is the kingdom of heaven. This is the kingdom of heaven. Unless I wash you, you won't belong to me. And I can imagine every one of those disciples crying last gathering. Washing Christie's feet. She's up here weeping. I don't know what God was speaking to her. But it was holy. I can imagine it was holy in that room as Jesus was drying the feet. I mean here's Jesus. He made the body. Just think about this. You know some people here like you like them pedicures. You know what I'm talking about? And you pay $75 because you get the massage at the end. You know what I'm saying? It's like just take your time. Can you five more minutes? You know and I can imagine Jesus who loved him all the way to the end. That Jesus was giving him a little foot massage at the end. And right because love's a verb. It shows action or state of being. Jesus doesn't just do a little. He's the God of abundance right? Like Jesus doesn't struggle with commitment. Like Jesus is here for it. And the God that made the body. Maybe he was doing a little acupuncture while he's at it. You know he's doing some pressure points and all of a sudden the migraine was gone. And they're like holy cow he touched me. Jesus touched me. And they never forgot what he did. Thank you Tim. Thank you for letting me wash your feet. Love serves. Pride swerves. Save people, serve people. When it comes to God's house do you believe you, are you a contributor? Are you

a consumer? I could ask it this way. Do you exist for the church or have you swallowed that slick lie of Satan that says the church exists for you? There was a president that once said, right I'll just ask, right? Like don't just ask what can they do for me? Like ask what can I do for my country? Not just what can my country do for me? I don't know if it was, I don't remember if it was Mother Teresa or if it was Martin Luther King Jr. One of them said not everyone can be great but everyone can serve. Everyone can serve. We're saved to serve. Our Savior stooped to serve. He got low and then he got dirty showing us this is what it's supposed to be like. If Satan came to kill still and destroy but if Jesus came to give us life and give us life abundantly and if Jesus came, there's a verse that says he said I came to serve not to be served. So if Jesus came to serve and he did, what did you come for? What'd you come for? And how do you know you're a servant when you don't get twisted when you're treated like one? My God, that one stings me. You with me? Like that shit hit everybody here. I want to be like Jesus and I don't always get this right. I don't. We were traveling neighborhood Bible time. I was in college. We were traveling and our summers were preaching. There were 40 college students from all over. We got to go to churches and preach and we did massive events in Mexico and Canada and America. I believe it was my second summer doing this and there was a young preacher boy there. We were all college students, preacher boys, whether it was evangelism major or whether it was Bible major or youth ministries or missions major and but there's this kid and he just had a big mouth. He just a lot of ego and I didn't like that. That rubbed me wrong. How many of you know that the thing that you maybe struggle with is the thing you don't like about someone else? This guy was just always. I was just like, he's a punk? I wouldn't say it, I just really believed it. Why? For real. And then one day during worship, we were worshiping, and the Spirit of God spoke to me. I'd never heard God's voice say this to me, and it's happened since, and it's broken me every time. God said, wash his feet. And I wish I could tell you, like, I was like, yes, Lord. Here am I, send me. But I was like,

really? You want me to do what? The Spirit of God said, wash his feet. Everyone went for lunch. I got a bucket of water, soap, and a towel. I said, Dad, I need to wash your feet. He's like, what? I said, I know. I need to wash your feet. And you know what? God broke something in me, because that's what happens when you serve. When you serve, it changes people, but the first person it changes is yourself. As I was washing his feet, I started weeping. I'm a college guy, man. Testosterone at an all-time high. I started weeping, and I started confessing to him the unforgiveness in my heart, the attitude I had, because I didn't like his attitude. And forgiveness started flowing. Before it was all over, we were hugging. We were crying, and I believe with all my heart that day, God said, there's a special anointing on you, Tim, because you obeyed me, because if you will do this. I don't know if it's a physical, if there's someone's feet that you physically need to wash, it might. It might be your spouse, that you're so angry. You're just so resentful. They don't deserve it. He changed me. He might do the same for you. We're friends to this day, because God went out of his way to teach us to stoop, to serve. That's what it's about, guys. I just feel in this gathering, like God's saying it's just time. It's time to get off the bench. No more sitting in the Lazy Boy, critiquing why that quarterback should have thrown a better pass with four 400-pound men trying to kill him. He's like, well, if he would have seen that, the slot receiver was open. Well, we sit and sit on our Coke. You with me? That should not be named among us one time, where we come and we just consume. If we're not careful, it's a slippery slope. It could be like, well, the kids, and I can't wait for them to take my kids for a week and do this, and I hope the coffee's here, and man, I hope the parking team's got the umbrellas outside. It's raining, and if you're not careful, you can become so selfish. How do you know if you're selfish? You don't serve nobody, because it's all about you. Can I tell you a secret? It's not about you. You're too small. I'm too small. It's about others. You want to have joy? Jesus, others, and then you. Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus. We need to have the mindset of Jesus. We need a stoop to serve. What should it look like? And I'm through. It ought to look like you're not sitting there, sitting, soaking, and souring, but you're like, you know what? I've got gifts that God's given me, and you know they're from God. You know there should be back to God to bring

glory to God. God didn't just give you your skillset so you could pay your mortgage. God gave you your skillset so you could build kingdom. This is what I'm talking about. God didn't just give you your job so you can pay your bills. God gave you your job, and your income, and your raise, or your multiple streams of income so you could build kingdom. There's contributors, and then there's consumers, and the consumers didn't clap for that, because that one stings a little too much. And conviction is from God. If you're not convicted, I ask if you're, if you're really a child of God, because whom the Lord loves, He corrects. If you don't love your, if you don't correct your kids, I don't think you love them. If you're like, don't touch little Johnny, Johnny can't do nothing wrong. Like you're building a problem. If it's always the teacher's fault, it might be Johnny's fault. It's a thought. You with me? See what I'm saying? And so I say this lovingly, this church is a church where we step up to serve. There ought to be abundance. We've been praying for months. God give us some keyboard players, Lord, some keyboardist, some musicians. We've got great musicians, specifically keys, Lord Jesus. And maybe you're out there and you have the gift. I'm not talking about grandma's like, you're so good. You know, in middle school. Yeah. Remember the first middle school band we go to, you know, we're going to have to listen to this for three years. You remember that? The confidence got to start at some point. And we're talking about the gift, not the wish, the gift. Y'all got just a few seconds. We had a night of worship. It was a night of worship at Navarre high school and the kids were worshiping God. And it was so awesome, except for one musician, he had no clue what he's doing, but he was

having fun doing it. But the notes were totally different. The songs were totally different. And you look at the other people who were like, like doing it right. And they're like, Lord help him. He don't know struggle plus everything. He's in his own world, man. He's making a joyful noise to the Lord, but he was off. Aren't you thankful when people are on? Aren't you thankful? When people come here, there's a church and the greeters actually like people. And the kids that work, the adults, excuse me, I work with the kids. They love kids. They're not like, I can't do this today, right? Like, like this is the body of Christ and we all have gifts and abilities. We ought to leverage them for his glory. And if you're on the bench, get off. You are actually invited into the game. This church ought to resemble heaven. That means this church, we ought to be serving on earth as it is in heaven. Inside the church, where can you contribute? If you're a Christian, tithing is not an option. Tithing is not a suggestion. It's actually a command, believe it or not. And if you don't like that, Jesus talks more about money. Why? Because he knows how people, how funny they get when you talk about money, because money reveals who your gods are, your idols are, where they are. Wherever your treasure is, your heart will be, your heart will be right there with your treasure.

That's, that's the way you can contribute. You contribute and get on a team. We don't want you to serve every Sunday, but if you're coming and you're thankful for the coffee and there's toilet paper in the bathroom and the, boy, the AC is working and it's just, I'm so glad this is all here for me. Like if you don't know Jesus, or if you're just coming back to Jesus, you're new here, like that's, that's here for you. But at some point, the kids got to make their own breakfast, you with me, y'all get quiet on me now. That conviction starts setting in y'all, y'all not smiling as big as you were earlier. This is what God wants and not just in the, in, inside the church. We ought to be doing it on the outside and that's why we have love week coming up. Love week ought to be a hundred percent. There's no one here too busy, too important to serve at love week. There's nobody here. There's a church grace family in Tampa. Tony Dungy's on the parking team. People pull in and do it because Tony Dungy's parking them on Saturday night and he's on TV on Sunday. Tony gets it. And I say this to you, when it comes to God's house, are you a consumer, are you a contributor? I hope and I pray that you'll move and if this is the first time you're hearing this, it's a good place to start at the beginning. God's got a place for you on the team. You're invited, you're gifted. God wants to leverage your skillset to build his kingdom and I pray that's exactly what we do. Let's pray. Amen. It's bowed and eyes closed.

I'd like to just invite the prayer team up and I like to speak to the men, you know, it's not father's day, but I'd like to speak to the men real quick. I like to speak to the men of the house, men, let's lead the way. Women can do it. Women have been doing it. Men, let's lead the way. Let's not be the last one to the party. Let's not give all to our job and leftovers to our Lord. Let's not swerve, man. Let's serve. Let's show up. I don't know how God spoke in you today, but I read last night before I went to bed, I read my Bible and it said, for those of you with the gift of speaking, speak as if the Lord is speaking. The Lord is speaking through you. So today I spoke to you as if the Lord was speaking through me to you because he is, and he did. Now we get a chance to do something with it. I'm gonna ask you to stand at your feet real quick. Gathering will be over in just a minute, but this is our favorite time right here, man. This is our time where we get to pray, talk to Jesus, it's a moment of prayer. And if there's something you wanna pray about, maybe something totally different than what I spoke about. Maybe you're carrying a burden. Maybe you're going through a trial, maybe a temptation. Maybe you're so discouraged, you're depressed. Maybe you're anxious, you didn't wanna come today.

You're having a panic attack on the way to church and the devil's did everything he could to keep you from hearing the word, but you came anyways, good job. Good job, proud of you. You pushed through, you got stronger. You heard the word today. Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God. Like you are stronger leaving than you were walking in. Are you with me today? Come on, you're not who the devil says you are. You're who God says you are. I wanna invite you to come pray if you're a Christian. I'm gonna speak to the lost in just a minute. I think this altar ought to be packed. I think we got a lot to pray about. Let us be a praying church. Jesus said, my house will be called the house of prayer. We ought to be known as a church. And people say, you know what? We got something, we got a problem. We got something to pray about. We need a miracle. This community ought to know Momentum Church is a church that believes in miracles. They see miracles, they expect miracles. They know how to call on heaven and they know how to watch heaven work. That ought to be the reputation, the house of prayer of this church.

Lord, may it be so. I'm gonna invite you to come. God spoke to your heart. God spoke to your heart. You're like, you know what? It's time to get serving again. Maybe you took your eyes off Jesus and you stopped serving. Maybe you've been swerving for too long. Maybe someone messed with your head and you're thinking and hurt your feelings and you're like, well, that's it. We're not gonna serve anymore. And the devil goes, bravo, bravo. No, no, no. Maybe it's time that you go take it back what the enemy stole. Maybe it's time you're ready to show up again. Maybe you just got a burden. You need someone to pray with you and for you about. I want you to come. There are people already down here. You're invited to come. That first step, that's the hard step, man. It's stepping past your pride. Just that first step. And everyone here, man, listen. This is a perfect place for imperfect people. No one here is judging you. Everyone here is supporting you. None of us are perfect, man, but we're forgiven.

We want that for you. Come and pray. God bless you as you come. Then if you're here and you're not a Christian, today's the day of salvation. Listen to me, sir. Listen to me, ma'am. Jesus died for you. Jesus bled for you. He loved you so much, he laid his life down on the cross for your sins to be forgiven. Not covered, but cleansed. Jesus knew every dirty thing about you. And he still went to the cross for you. He still chose you. He still invites you to come. If you're lost, don't let the devil lie to you anymore. There is a God who's filled with mercy and grace. And it reaches past your greatest mistake. It will run to your lowest place. God will take you just where you are, and he will change you. Scripture says, if you'll confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and if you'll believe in your heart that God the Father raised Jesus, God the Son, from the dead, you will be saved, Blackwater.
