Divinely Different | Pastor Terrence Mullings

Have you ever noticed that most of us spend our life trying to fit in when God created us to stand out? Have you noticed that? I remember growing up in Australia and living in Wagga Wagga and I was the guy who was so committed to fitting in that I wanted to be who I thought they wanted me to be. I mean, when I played basketball, of course, I had to be the black guy and I was Michael Jordan, amen? That was me. In fact, do you know growing up, for most of my teenage years and my young adult years, I shaved my head because that's the picture in Australia we got that black men do. So I shaved my head because that's what black men do. You want a picture? Next week, come back next week for the picture. In fact, I played soccer and I didn't even like soccer. You know why I played soccer? Because my dad told me that the best soccer player was a black guy. His name was Pele, Pele. I didn't even know who Pele was. I even was tempted to try and play golf because they told me Tiger Woods was kind of black. I don't know. But have you noticed that we spend most of our life trying to fit in when God created us to stand out. And think about it, God could have made us all the same. He could have looked the same, talked the same, thought the same, we could have all voted the same. In fact, God could have made us all

to have the same personalities, the same fingerprint, the same voice pattern, but he didn't. He made you and he made me. God made you and I. And I believe that some of us have spent so many years trying to fix what God does not call a flaw. In fact, your difference is not a defect. Your difference is a divine design. Your difference is not a defect. Your difference is a divine design. And today I want to speak to you from this thought. I want to speak to you about becoming divinely different. Divinely different. Divinely different. And in fact, there are seven deadly mistakes that we make when it comes to discovering our purpose. Seven deadly mistakes. And if you don't think there can be deadly mistakes when it comes to discovering your purpose, well, ask Judas. If you think your purpose is just to get money, you will betray Jesus and you will die. And so I want to help us not make the mistakes that most people make when it comes to discovering our purpose. And I said this last week, if you're wrongly diagnose your identity, you will wrongly prescribe your destiny. And so last week we understood our identity. So there's a part two today.

Well, I know who I am in Christ, but what do I do? What did God place me here to do? And that's what I want to talk about today. Write this down as number one. Number one, this first deadly mistake that we make when it comes to our purpose is this. Purpose is found in his presence, all right? Purpose is found in his presence. So the mistake we make is we try to decide our purpose instead of discover our purpose. Come on, those taking notes. And come on, note takers are history makers. We try to decide our purpose instead of discover our purpose. And purpose is never chosen by preference. Purpose is always revealed in his presence. Come on, write that down. Purpose is not decided by your preference, but it's discovered in his preference. And sadly, many of us will choose careers before we actually choose a calling. And we'll chase opportunity rather than chasing obedience. And the reason we do that is because we're more focused on getting money than pleasing our maker. Don't chase money, chase the maker and the money will chase you. And God will add riches and add no sorrow. And that's the difference when we chase God first. Here's three points that are important is that number one, we've got to find the father.

Find the father. He's the maker. And we learned last week, the product does not decide its purpose. Because if the iPhone decided because it heats up, it should be a water heater and a kettle. You will abuse the product if you don't check with the manufacturer what the purpose of the product. Just like that as created things, we don't decide our purpose. We need to go back to the manufacturer, our maker, whose name is God, amen. And so number two, you got to follow the son. Follow the son. We saw at baptism, three important things that happened when Jesus found his purpose in relationship with the father. Number one, it was acceptance. This is my son. Can I tell you, if you've been accepted by God, you don't have to do anything to be accepted by other people. You don't need to compromise who you are to get acceptance from others because you're already a child of God. Affection, affection. This is my child who I love. Can I tell you, don't just settle with anyone. Find the one Jesus

and know that he has already given you his affection. And then now you're just looking for your number two because you've found the one. Affirmation, with him I'm well pleased. Can I tell you, you have nothing to prove because you are. are already approved. So many of us are trying to get the affirmation from God and we think God stands like this to us with his back to us. No, no, no, cancel the audition because the chair's already turned. The chair's already turned. You're a child of God. And number three, you're gonna be filled with the Spirit. The Spirit gives you power to pursue your unique purpose. Last week, we learned that there were five wise virgins and five foolish. What made the wise ones wise? They had the oil. You will need the oil of the Holy Spirit or you will burn out and you'll never see what you're called to do. You need the oil of the Holy. The oil of the Holy. First Corinthians two says this. No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind has imagined what God has prepared for those who love him. But verse 10 says,

but it was to us that God revealed these things by what? His Holy Spirit. We're gonna need the Spirit to discern why God placed us here. For his Spirit searches out everything and shows us God's deep secrets and plans for us. When you discover your purpose, you will shine like the sun. Someone say shine like the sun. Shine bright like a diamond. You need to shine like the sun, not the S-O-N, but the S-U-N. Because when you discover who you are, you will shine like the S, special, U, unique, and N, it makes you necessary. And when you know you are special, chosen by God, unique, designed by God, and necessary, sent by God with a purpose, watch this, you will stop comparing yourself and you will actually start shining who you were called to be. Let me break this down for a minute. S, special, special. You gotta know you've been set apart from God. First Peter two nine says you're a royal, you're a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, special possession. I want everyone to say this. I am not common, I've been consecrated. You are not common, you've been consecrated.

That means God didn't just save you, he selected you intentionally. He didn't just save you, he selected you. Let's go to you. You are unique, unique. That means you've been divinely designed on purpose, so you were never meant to fit in. You were always created to stand out. Here's the verse, Psalm 139 says, I praise you because I'm fearfully and wonderfully made. Your works are marvelous and this I know very well. Can I, let's all say this together. My difference isn't a flaw, it's a feature. Come on one more time. My difference isn't a flaw, it's a feature. Your gifts and talents were given to you by the Holy Spirit and let me prove it to you. In first Corinthians it says this, a few more scriptures. Is this okay? There are different kind of gifts but the shouted out distributes them. There are different kinds of service but the same Lord, there are different kinds of working but in all of them and in everyone it is the, come on, you are the same God. You are the same, that's all right. Oh Lord, my God, I need you. Like we need, why do we need God? Verse 11 tells us because all these, the giftings of service, the giftings of ministry

are the work of one and the same Spirit. Let's underline that for the next time and He, God distributes them to each one of us just as who determines? God determines, you do not decide your purpose, you need to discover your purpose and it will make you unique and the N stands for necessary, necessary. Come on, look at the person to your right and say I'm necessary, I'm necessary. Come on, look at the other person you ignored and tell them you're necessary, you're necessary. Can I tell you, here's what, you are not optional, you're essential for what God is building here on earth. You're not an option, you are essential. Here's what Ephesians says, it says, for we are God's handiwork created in Christ Jesus to do good works which God prepared when? In advance for us to do. Come on, let's say this line together. I am not an extra like in a movie, I'm essential. Come on, one more time, I'm not an extra, I am, I am essential. If you don't show up, then what God has planned in heaven here for earth will never show up. Have you ever thought of that? In his presence, you don't decide your purpose, but in fact, in his presence, you're gonna find three things and they're gonna be the next few points.

It's gonna, you're gonna find a plan, you're gonna find a place where you got to live out that purpose and in fact, in his presence, you'll also discover the problem that you were created to solve. The first deadly mistake is this, you do not decide your purpose, you need to discover your purpose and here's the reason and this is the clincher, this is the linchpin right here. Matthew 28 says this, then Jesus came to them and he said, some authority in heaven. heaven and on earth. Oh, I read it wrong? Oh, no, no, he said, let's put the scripture back up there if we can. Thank you, Anna. He said, in Matthew 28, then Jesus said, all authority in heaven and earth has been given to me. Therefore, he says, go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing. Now, what does baptize mean? It means to immerse. We did that last week. Baptize them in the name. En el nombre de que? Jesus. They have three names, actually. It's the name of the father,

the name of the... And the name of the... You know, last week, we baptized 64 people in these names. Clap your hands. 64 people. And here's why a name is important, because if you wanna change the narrative, the story of your life, you need to change the name you've been living under. So the name represents a narrative, and the name represents the nature of a person. In fact, you know, in the olden days, if you wanted to know what someone did, their last name told you. If your name was Smith, you were possibly a blacksmith. If your last name was Fisher, you were possibly a fisherman, because the name talks about your nature. Now, look up. Let's put that scripture back up for a second. That scripture in Matthew 28 is universal. That is for everyone. First scripture, if we can, Anna. The first one. Baptizing, yeah, that one. That is for everyone. This is universal. We've all been called to have authority from heaven

to come to earth in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, and use it to make disciples followers of Jesus. That is universal. Everyone say universal. But the next scripture, put it up now. And don't just baptize them, God says, but teaching them, teaching them, verse 20, to obey everything I have commanded you. This is so important, because God is saying it's not just universal. Don't miss this. God has placed something inside you that makes you special, unique, and necessary, and he has now commanded you. You don't wanna break one of God's commandments. He's now commanded that what I've placed inside of you, I need you to teach those around you. And this is where most of Christianity has missed it. We understand the baptism of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, but we never discover what God has placed in me. And it is a commandment that you teach others everything that he has commanded you. Write this down. Everyone shares the same source, but not everyone shares the same assignment. Everyone shares the same source, Father, Son, Holy Spirit,

but not everyone shares the same assignment. There is a different assignment for you that makes you unique. It's your unique part that you have in his story. So it's from God, which makes it divine, but it's also different from everyone else. And this is where we get the thought that you are divinely different, divinely different. Everyone shares the same source, but not everyone shares the same assignment. So Jesus, at baptism, he realized that not only am I obviously made in the image of the Father, not only am I filled with the Holy Spirit, but watch what happens when Jesus discovers his, not just the same source, but his assignment. It's in Luke 4. Are you tracking? Luke 4 says this. Jesus says, the spirit of the sovereign Lord is upon me because he has anointed me to do five things. Number one, to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim that the captives will be released, that the blind will see, that the oppressed will be set free, and that the time of the Lord's favor has come. So Jesus knew why God sent him here, not just that he was obviously God, but he knew why he was here.

Do you know those five things is where we get our vision from? Good news to the poor, that they don't have to be unholy, they can be holy. Sent me to pray that the captives will be released, they'd be healthy, they don't have to be bound, they'll be free. The blind would see. When you see, that will make you happy, that the oppressed will be set free, that you can go and do what God has called you to do, that's bring heaven to earth. And watch this, and that the time of the Lord's favor has come. Look up the back on that wall, what does that say? It's the time of the Lord's favor, we call it harvest time. Clap your hands if you believe that in this place, amen. Amen. So here's the point, write this down. Jesus didn't just know God, He knew what He was anointed to do. Jesus didn't just know God, He knew what He was anointed to do. The first deadly mistake that most of us make is that we don't discover our purpose, we try and decide it outside of. the presence of God. Write this down as number two, number two. Number two, it's not just in his presence

you gotta get into, but in his presence, you're also gonna discover his plans, his plans. Someone say plans. Here's the mistake, the deadly mistake we make. We don't discover his plan and his blueprint. So we seek provision before we seek his plan. Can I tell you, never build without a blueprint. Luke 14 says this, suppose one of you wants to build a tower. Weren't you first, everyone say primero. Weren't you first, sientate, sit down and estimate the cost to see if you have enough money to complete it. First, you gotta sit down and take a seat at his table and discover whether this purpose, this plan is your plan or God's plan. Because Adam and Eve thought, I'm not gonna do God's plan, I'm gonna do my own plan. How did that work out for them? Heaven doesn't fund confusion, heaven funds clarity. If you want God's provision in your life, you better get clear on what he wants in your life. Come on, if it's not God's will, it's not God's bill. There is a reason why we took so long to move from Australia here to America because we had to discern, is this God's plan or just mine? Jeremiah 29, 11 says this, for I know the, shout it out, I know the plans that I have for you, declares the Lord. It's plans to prosper you, not to harm you, to give you a great future and a great hope. God has a plan, but notice, watch this,

it has to be discovered and it has to be, you have to deploy and do it. You gotta walk it out, walk it out, walk it out. You gotta walk this plan out because it will require both obedience and action, obedience and action. You're not taking notes, you gotta write these things down. If there was a life message that I would preach to my children, it'll be this one. You gotta discover why God has placed you here. Isaiah 1 says this, if you are willing, and shout it out, obedient, then you will eat the good of the land. But if you resist and rebel, you will be devoured by the sword for the mouth of the Lord has spoken. If you asked Adam and Eve, what would they say, the biggest mistake people make about their purpose is watch this, they would say, follow God's plan. Follow God's plan because if you get off script, it is deadly, it will cost you more than you're willing to pay, and it will keep you longer than you're willing to stay. Someone say, follow the plan. Follow the plan, follow the plan. Number three, number three, the third deadly mistake that we make when it comes to discovering our purpose, and it is deadly, just ask Judas. If you misdiagnose your purpose, you think it's just to get money, not only will you betray Jesus, but you will end up dead. So encouraging today, Pastor T, yes.

Every purpose has not just a plan, but it has number three, a place, a place. Someone say place, let's pop it on the screen, a place. You gotta discover your place. The mistake that we make in our purpose is that we ignore place and we choose a platform. We ignore place and we chase a platform. We want influence, but remember, visibility, when it comes to this, listen to this. If you chase a platform without a place, you will have visibility with no authority. So remember, David, before he became king, he was a shepherd in a field for many years. Jesus, before you saw his notoriety for three years, he had 30 years of obscurity. Jesus was hidden for 30 years before he was revealed for three. Do not despise the day of small beginnings. Maybe God is hiding you on purpose. If you chase a platform without a place to outwork it, you will have that visibility, but you will have it without any authority. Every purpose has a place. Geography does matter, it does matter. God said to Abraham, leave this place, Ur of the Chaldeans, leave your father's household, because as Emma said, it ran in your family until it ran into you. You gotta leave this place where there's so much depression and oppression.

They are idol worshipers. If you stay in this place, you'll become like them. Come on, but they're not like us. Leave this place and go to the place, and watch this, barrenness was broken when they got to the right place. Jeremiah, leave this place and go to the potter's house, and there you'll hear my voice. Watch this, silence was broken in the right place. You can be called and still out of place. That means if you are out of the wrong place, you're gonna be out of your purpose. We're gonna get in the right place, and this is the right place, the house of God. You put it up there quickly. When you're out of place, you are out of your purpose. Watch this. God made places before he made people. Can you imagine if God made the fish before he made the ocean? So God always prepares a place before he places you there. And you need to know that this is the place. You're in the place. Come on, anyone grateful that they're in the right place with the right people serving the right God? Don't miss this. I'm telling you, if I had one message to preach, I would tell my children this. Where you are determines who sees you. Ruth left Moab, followed her mother-in-law, Naomi, back to Bethlehem, and in that place she met her Boaz.

Ruth did not receive favor until Boaz saw her. There is a reason some of you have not met the right person because you're not in the right place. We had a dream team party two nights ago, and I'm telling you, I looked around the room, that's a good guy, that's a good man. That girl, she's awesome. The reason why you didn't meet them is because you weren't there. I'm not playing. I'm not playing. Do you know Kevin, one of our amazing team on our Sons Conference team, make sense, wave, both of you, wave. You got two children now, and Kevin met Christina because he was in the right place, which was at our dream team party in 2022. They happened to be sitting at the right table in the right place because where you are determines who sees you, and now he's living the life of his dreams. Clap your hands with the woman of his dreams. Man, be in the right place at Sons Conference. If you miss it, you will miss purpose. You will miss real life. God doesn't bless you in any place. He blesses you in the right place. Joseph didn't get promoted until Pharaoh saw him. We can make that a build next service because I want to make sure people get this.

Joseph was in a prison, and it was when the new Pharaoh came and saw him because he was using his purpose to interpret dreams with the baker and the butler, that someone heard about him because where you are determines who sees you. Let's think about Moses. We think of Moses being in the right place. Now, what do you think when I say that? You think burning bush moment. No, no, no, it wasn't just that. Think about Moses. If Moses was not put down the river Nile by his mother, Pharaoh's daughter would never have seen him in there to rescue him. Where you are determines who sees you. Now, watch this. If Moses' mother put him in a river Nile that could have destroyed him, sometimes you think that God is trying to set you back. No, no, no, God is setting you up for your greatest comeback in Jesus' name. Come on, anyone grateful that what the enemy meant for evil, God will use it for your good. What about Jonah? He was instructed to go to Nineveh. He rebelled against God. And when you're in the wrong place, he had to enter the well university to learn to listen to God,

that you do not choose the place, God does. 5,000 people were instructed, 500 were instructed to go to the upper room. Jesus said, listen, esperate, wait, wait deso, right yeso. No deso, right yeso. It's not right, but let's just roll with it. Wait right here, don't leave. And only 120 stayed and only 120 received the power of the Holy Spirit. You cannot work for 40, 50 hours a week in the wrong place expecting an hour and a half on a Sunday to change it. You got to ask God, am I in the right place doing the right thing? This is why this message is important. This is why some of us are not happy because we're not discovered the right place. Can I tell you healing happens in a place. The blind man did not receive the instruction from God that caused him to be healed until Jesus saw him in the right place. Let's build this one as well next time. The woman with the issue of blood, she had to be in the right place to be able to reach out and touch the hem. Place matters, place matters. Here's what you need to ask God, write this down. Am I where you have called me to be? Am I where you have called me to be?

Because someone is supposed to succeed because you saw them. And you're supposed to succeed because someone sees you. To whom have you been sent? Success is always linked to a place. History Makers Church is not planted in Wagga Wagga, Australia. History Makers Church was not planted in the Maldives, but that would have been nice Lord. History Makers was planted here because God had a plan and a purpose for you to discover all you were created to be. be in His purpose. If you're grateful that this is the right place, clap your hands that Jesus is in this place. Number four, the fourth mistake that we make when it comes to discovering our purpose is not only do we not get in His presence, not only do we not get a plan, not only do not we stay in the place, we don't realize that God has called us to solve a problem. God has called us to solve a problem, but you only receive that in His presence. And write this down. We avoid problems instead of solving them. Mistake. We avoid problems, and so here's what we pray. God, will you please remove the problem? And God says, no, no, I sent you to solve them. Don't remove the problem. Can you imagine if there was no Pharaoh?

If there was no Red Sea, there'd be no purpose for creating Moses, because Moses was a deliverer. But if there's nothing to deliver them from, what's the use of having a Moses? If there was no Goliath, we don't need David. And David doesn't become king until he encounters a Goliath. Your purpose is often hidden inside the problem that you're trying to avoid. Your purpose is often hidden inside the problem that you are trying to avoid. When David solved the problem of Goliath, he was rewarded with tax-free living and kingship. Money follows problems solved. Solve big problems, big reward. Solve little problems, little reward. The thing that bothers you the most is possibly the thing that God has called you to fix. Moses, I hate injustice. God says, solve it. Nehemiah, the walls are broken down. God says, I called you to solve it. Jesus, there's sin, and people are separated from me. I've called you to solve it. You are gonna be remembered for two things in your life, the problems you solve and the problems you create. What problems are you solving? Everything God created was to solve a problem. Cars solve a problem for transportation. Mechanics solve car problems.

Dentists solve teeth problems. Pastors solve spiritual problems. Teachers solve educational problems. Some would say politicians create, we won't go there in Jesus' name. This is why God created us. You know why God created us? Because he had a problem. He had so much love and he needed someone to give it to. We are the product of his desire to pour out his love, to share his nature. He didn't want just to rule in heaven. He wanted someone to rule just like him, offspring here on earth. Why did God create Eve? Because Adam had a problem. Let's put a scripture up. In Genesis, it says, Adam had a problem. It's not good that man should be alone. I'm gonna make a helper meet equal to him from his side, not beneath him, not above him, a helper. But then they both had a problem. Who's gonna take care of them in their old age? Who's gonna look after? Who can they pour their love into once they finish up? And so that's what Psalm says, 127. A children are a gift from the Lord. They're a reward from him. Children born to a young man are like arrows in a warrior's hand.

How joyful. Who will I disciple? Have a child. Who will I pour into and make better? Have a child. I was made in God's image to love. I need someone to pour that love into. Here's my point. You are a solution to somebody. Do you know that? Marjorie, you are a solution to somebody. You are a reward to someone. Sam, someone needs you. Someone wants you. And I wanna reject the lie from the enemy that makes you think no one needs you and no one likes you. You are desired. God placed you here because Brittany, someone needs you. Someone wants you to be made in the image of God. You are necessary to someone somewhere. You are necessary to someone. Ronnie, you are a walking solution to someone. So shine like the sun, Jewel. Special, unique, and necessary. If you don't find your people, if you don't find the problem you are called to solve, you will never discover your purpose. Write this down as number five. We're almost there. Number five, number five.

The fifth mistake that people make, is this helpful? The fifth mistake that most people make when it comes to discovering their purpose is they don't realize that God has sent them to a people, to a people, with which to make history with and to make history for. Here's the mistake. We isolate instead of finding our people to congregate. Now I'm speaking to the choir, but I may be speaking to you online. We isolate instead of congregating. Here's what we think, I'll figure it out on my own. And instead of looking upwards, we look inwards. You're not gonna find it there. Everyone has a person. Paul had a Barnabas. Moses had who? Aaron, Aaron, Jesus had who? The 12 disciples. You do not discover your purpose in isolation, you discover your purpose in connection. That's why we prayed for one divine connection every day when we moved here from Australia. Because we knew that what God had called us to do, we could never do alone. And if you're doing it alone, you'll soon be done. God created us to do it in community. Here's what Galatians 2.8 says. For the same God who worked through Peter as an apostle to who? The Jews, shouted out. He also worked through me, Paul, as an apostle to the? You are not called to everyone, but you are called to someone. And you need to discover who it is. Peter was called to the Jews, Paul was called to the Gentiles, Jesus was called to the lost, and Emma and I were called to you here at History Makers Church. You are not just saved, you are sent to someone. I was called to a people here in South Florida, but I was also called with a people, five of them. Hosey, Jerry, Izzy, Kiki, and Emma. During my 40-day fast, I

developed a love for the people here, and I wasn't even living here. And I started to see, as we were researching the stats during that 40-day fast, these statistics that for some reason they just started to move me. Things like poverty. Even though this is the most rich, affluent area of America, we have so many people living below the poverty line. Divorce rates, off the charts. Losslessness, that 97% of people claim no relationship with Jesus here in South Florida. That started to move me. What do you mean, out of the seven million people, that about 6.8 of them are not going to heaven because they don't know Jesus? That started to move me. They had more abortion clinics, when I did the stats, more abortion clinics than Starbucks. That means more places to take life, than to give life. Because who knows, coffee gives life in Jesus' name. Because Hebrews, can I get an amen? Danielle, I saw that amen. Come on, I clocked that one. Why were these stats moving me? Because God was sending us as an answer, I believe, to many prayers, including my grandma. My grandma lived here for many years before she passed away. She served as a housemaid for a beautiful family. Her prayer was, can you not criticize me for going to another church? We don't want just a Jamaican church. We don't want just a Hispanic church. We don't just want a Haitian church. Because my Bible says, every tribe, every tongue, and every nation, God wants His church for all people, whether you're Spanish, Haitian, Indian, Jamaican, or Australian. Come on, can we clap our hands louder than that? And thank God we're a diverse church. Black, white, brown, everyone is welcome in the kingdom of God. And my question for you is to discover your purpose, you need to know who are you called to. So can I tell you, whose tears move you? Whose pain affects you? Joseph was a reward to Pharaoh because Pharaoh's torment moved him. I can do something about your nightmares. I can interpret those dreams. He also, because he was moved by Pharaoh's tears, he saved all of Egypt during a famine. And in fact, he ended up saving his whole family who rejected him because he was moved. He knew he was called to a people. God is a creator. He's not a duplicator. So if He created you, you are a designer's original. Stop trying to fit in when God created you to stand out. Someone needs exactly who you are and what God has given you. You've got to find your place, but you've got to find your people because when you find your people, you will find your purpose. This is why we have groups here at History Makers Church. Do you have your group? Let's pop it on the screen. You are a

reward to someone somewhere. Thank you, Anna. You've got to find those people because you are a reward to someone somewhere. The keys can come. The keys can come. Here's number six, second last mistake that people make when it comes to discovering their purpose. They don't understand that purpose is revealed by passion, by passion. Let me ask you this question. Let's put on the screen. What do you love? What do you love? John 3 16 says, God so loved the world. Now don't go there. Watch this. The deadly mistake is we choose purpose led by comparison instead of what I'm passionate about because I was passionate about going to the keys, but then I saw you go to Cabo, Mexico, and now I'm comparing my life to you. And so I want what you got instead of what God gave me. So instead of looking upwards to heaven, we're looking sideways. And when you're looking sideways, you're going to step out of your lane. And if you're looking sideways, you're going to step out of your lane. You step out of lane, you're gonna get disqualified for the purpose. Why am I not like them? Why don't I have their gift? Why can't I play like Mario? Why can't I sing like Emma and Jazz and the worship team? Why? Can I tell you, comparison will kill the clarity in your life. God didn't make you to be like them. He made you to be like you. God didn't make you to be like them. He made you to be you. You know, I remember when Emma first got saved, she was, she told you, she's got a, had a music contract. She was writing songs, almost had a record deal to come here in America. And she's like, I feel called by God. So she comes to church that I was at, God in the city in Sydney, Australia.

And she joins the worship team. And she gets to the worship team and she's like, I cannot believe. Why are they late? Why is no one here that we're meant to be rehearsing? Why has no one learned the songs? She could not believe the lack of excellence that people would have for the King of Kings when in the world they practice, they put in the effort, not for God, but for the devil. And for self, for selfishness. If you would do that in the world, how could you not do that for God? She just could not understand why people would not give their best to the house of God. Do you know why she was so passionate? Because she discovered her purpose. That's why when she's up here worshiping, she's in her zone. Passion reveals where God has placed power in your life. So here's the question for you, two questions. What do you love? What do you love? What do you love is a clue to your purpose and a clue to your assignment. In the year 2000, I went to Cuba. Alguien aqui de Cuba? Okay, un poquito, un gente aqui de Cuba. I went to Cuba, I had dual citizenship, so I flew into America on one passport,

flew to Jamaica and flew to Cuba on a different one so I could get back in, because at the time you couldn't go back and forward. When I went there, I realized that Cuba has the number one medical system in the world. Number one, when it comes to medicine. I was gonna study medicine. I actually had my interview via a phone call, conference call, we didn't have Zoom back then, in Cuba to actually get a scholarship to study medicine. Reason why Cuba has the number one medical system in the world is because if you're gonna study in a communist country, if you're gonna study eight years to become a doctor, do you realize in Cuba you get paid the same amount as a street sweeper, as a teacher, as whatever other career, but yet you've invested six plus years more? You know why people do it? Because they love it. And you know why they're the best? Because they love it. They've discovered their purpose. And so here's my question for you coming up. If everyone in the world only got paid $10 a month for whatever work, what would you do? What would you do if everyone only got $10? Let me ask it a different way. Here's how we used to ask all our launch team when we started the church, you remember this?

If money wasn't an issue, if time wasn't an issue, and you could do anything for God, what would you do? When you answer that question, it's an answer of love. Then you've started to discover why God has placed you here. Then you've got to discover it. You've got to then develop it. You've got to define what that thing is. And then you've got to deploy, go out and you've got to actually do it. You've got to discover these things. You know, during a 40 day fast, this is where I discovered my why, what I'm doing here today. Not just my who I am, my I, but my D, my identity was, what am I supposed to do? In fact, I remember sitting down and praying on behalf of my wife for two of those days. And it's like, Emma, these are the four things that I believe that God has placed in your life. And let me just help you put some handles on it because you know, and these are the four things that God spoke to me about my wife during that time, is that Emma, music is one of your passions. Media is, can we put it on the screen guys? Media is one of your passions. Ministry is one of your passions. And then God went on to tell her that in different seasons, different boxes are gonna be in front, but you need to define your why God placed you here. And it's based on, these are all the things she loved.

For me, it was, Terrence, you're a pastor, you're a preacher, you love presenting. I was doing TV presenting at the time, but above all those things, you're not just a pastor. You've got to remember you're a partner to Emma first. Before that, you're also a parent to these kids that I've given you. Don't get the order wrong in purpose. I'm a communicator. I love collaborating with people to see things done. So here's what I want you to tell you. Do not compete with others. Do not compare yourself with others and do not complain about what God has put in your hands. because if you do you will compromise the call of God upon your life. Don't compete, don't compare, don't complain. Don't compete, don't compare, and don't complain. What God has placed inside of you is not something you decided, it's something you discovered that he placed in your heart. Clarify your passion, what do you love? And finally the last mistake that people make when it comes to their purpose is this, what do you hate? I know I talked about passion, what do you love, but what do you hate? The mistake we make is that we complain about what others, what we're actually called to correct. We will complain about the very thing that we're called. What bothers you and what breaks your heart? What makes you righteously angry and frustrates you? Because what you attempted to complain about could be the very thing that God has called you to correct. Let's pop it off the screen. What you complain about could be the very thing God has called you to correct. See, dentists can either complain about crooked teeth or they can realize that God placed them here to correct it. Lawyers can either complain about injustice or they can realize that God sent them to right the wrongs. Christians, you can either complain about sin, suffering, and separation from God or

you realize that God has sent you to baptize others in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. And he has sent you and commanded you to teach others what he has taught you. Help them discover their part in his story. So my question for you is, what breaks your heart? What you hate is a clue to something you're assigned to correct. Moses hated slavery. When he saw an Egyptian beating an Israelite, anger rose up in him, rage rose up. Why? Because he was a deliverer. You cannot correct what you're unwilling to confront. And some of you run from the thing that you hate. No, no, you run to that thing. I hate this Goliath. Who is this uncircumcised Philistine? How dare you come against the armies of the Lord? Stop complaining about what God has called you to change. Stop complaining about things here in church. God's called you to change it. Get off the stands, get in the game. Get out the stands, get in the game. What are you complaining about in your house? Don't complain about your wife or husband. Get in the game and help them. Stop complaining at work. What do you see? Because God has shown it to you because he wants you to change it. Do you know I hate disorder? I hate inactivity. When we're doing our church planning assessment, we have about 15 church planners in the group and they tell us to solve a problem and everyone just looks at each other. I'm like, hey listen, you're gonna do this. You come in. You do that. You do this. Because I hate disorder. In fact, it's a blessing and a curse. Emma said to me yesterday, Terrence, you see everything. You see it 120%. She says I see it 80%. She said others see it 50%. What you see. But I got to be careful to not let that thing cripple me. Don't compete. Don't complain. Don't compare. But realize the thing that you see is something that God has called you to change. An angry man is an awakened man. Moses was awakened. I was angry when I watched music videos back in 2009 where women were objectified. Where women were seen as objects. I didn't complain. I created a TV show called Positive Hits and created our own TV show so we could talk about the music, the movies, and people that are changing the world. Do something about it. MADD. Mothers Against Drink Driving. You know why she started that? Because her own child was lost at the hand of a drink

driver. So she did something. She hated the fact that people are taking people's life through alcohol. Gary who just went out the back to help and Sharif's team hate the fact that money's mismanaged. This is why we put on Financial Peace University. Come on who graduated from FPU this week? I'm so proud of you. Congratulations. Miss Marjorie is not even on the kids team but she hates the fact that kids don't understand generosity. Takes her own money. Goes over to kids. Gets hundreds of dollars and gets him in ones. Gives them ten one dollar packet and says these nine are for you. This one is for God. She lets them keep the nine and so the... What makes you sad? Pay attention to your tears. Pay attention to... I don't know why but anyone else cried those videos when soldiers come home to their families? You know why? You know why you cried that? Because you hate disconnection. You hate families being apart. And so for me, I love divine connections. They're important to me. Tears move me. Anyone else cry at those videos you watch where people get groceries and they cry because they feel so undeserving? You know why you cry? Because you hate seeing people who feel unworthy and you wanna see them discover God's love and God's purpose. Where you hurt is a clue to what God has called you to heal. What makes you hurt the most is a clue to what God has called you to heal. So let me bring it all together and say it like this. You discover your purpose when you discover, number one, his presence.

You discover a plan. There's a place and there's a problem to solve. But once you discover all these things, God will develop you when he places you amongst the right people. No, write it, put it up. And then once you find your people, God's gonna show you that there's a power and a passion when you discover what you love. This is where he defines who you are, and then he will deploy you when you discover there's a purpose. I don't have time to go into this purity required to stay in that purpose, but eyes up. Your purpose is not just that. Your purpose is actually a person. His name is Jesus. Watch this. Jesus was found in the presence of God. He found his purpose in the presence of God. Jesus followed God's plan. Even when it cost him his life, Jesus left heaven, that place, to come to this place for you and I. Jesus was the only perfect one who came to solve the problem called sin and separation. Jesus came for his people. Jesus waited until he received power at baptism. Jesus is your purpose. Jesus is our purpose.

You might have success here this morning. You might have money. You might have influence, but you'll never have fulfillment in life until you have Jesus. Until you have Jesus. This morning, if you've never invited Jesus, who is the answer to help you discover, number one, what's divine, but your difference, don't make the deadly mistake of not inviting Jesus in your life, because it is deadly, asks Judas. With every eye closed and every head bowed, if you're here and never accepted Jesus, I'm gonna lead you in a prayer of salvation for Jesus, the name that's above every other name, to come into your heart and bring power, peace, a plan, perspective, to show you the problem you were created to solve. So if you're here today and you've never accepted Jesus, I'm gonna lead you in a prayer of salvation that invites purpose himself into your life. And if you want me to include you in this prayer, with every eye closed, every head bowed, no one looking around, if you'd like me to include in a prayer, lift that hand up and say, yep, I need this Jesus. Maybe you once walked with Jesus, but you walked away. Lift those hands up and say, yep, Terrence, include me in that prayer.

Awesome, I see your hand over there. Awesome, fantastic. I see your hand pop up just there on my right. Yes, in the middle, I see your hand. And one, two, three hands, four hands, I see your hand. Five, is that a hand? Awesome, young lady. I'm so proud of you. You can lift that hand up, I am proud of you. I see those two hands down the back, but if I didn't see your hand, I want you to know that God sees your heart. He sees your heart. So let's say this prayer together. Let's say, dear God, thank you for sending Jesus to find me and forgive me. Come on, let's all say, today, I repent for going my own ways and I follow you, Jesus, my purpose and my peace. Today, I am saved in Jesus' name. Amen and amen and amen. Come on, clap your hands and thank God for those great decisions. Amen, amen. Hey, heaven is celebrating and we are celebrating with you.
