Dig Your Own Well | How to Stay Connected to God Every Day
And as you sing and declare scripture, you're digging a well that leads to rivers of living water. Some of you are going to just make the smallest change of changing your 6 a.m. Wake up alarm from that piercing beeping to a worship song. So your spirit wakes up to worship. God doesn't want us just to experience His presence in just a moment, not in just a mountaintop moment. He wants us to build a life that sustains His presence every single day. Amen? His presence is not just meant to be experienced. It's meant to be carried. We are glory carriers. And I want to show you something today in Genesis 26 because there's a man named Isaac. And he finds himself in a famine. And in the middle of the famine, God tells him to stay. He doesn't tell him to escape. He doesn't tell him to run. He tells him to stay. And what Isaac does next is something that I believe God is speaking to us about today. Isaac begins to dig wells. He begins to dig wells. And you see last week, we learned how to surrender to the river. But today I want us to talk about how do we cultivate a life that always continues to draw from the source. His presence is not just meant to be experienced. It's meant to be carried. We carry it like well water where glory carriers. And there was a season in my own life where I was asking God to lighten some of the burdens I was carrying to lighten some of the weight that comes with ministry. I was asking God, can you lighten some of the load of the responsibility of what you've called me to do? And in prayer one night, I heard the Holy Spirit say very clearly, no, no. I'm not going to remove the burden. I'm going to strengthen you so that you can sustain it. And here's how he specifically said it to me. He said, you need to dig some deeper wells. Dig some wells. You know, it's the Holy Spirit when he speaks in language and words that you don't use in your everyday vocabulary. I had never talked about wells. I'd never dug deep into his word to see what wells were. I didn't use that in my everyday language. But after that, I went on a deep dive, a search, which is the Bible have to say about digging wells. And God took me on a whole journey of digging some deeper wells in my life, deeper wells of hearing God's voice, deeper wells of time in his word of believing for miracles again and uncovering some old wells that at one point in my life were dug deep and there were rivers of living water flowing from them, as it says in John 738, rivers of living water. But perhaps over time, due to unanswered prayer disappointment, they'd been filled up and were no longer flowing. And here's why it's important
Church. Luke 1248 says, "But to whom much is given, much is expected." And I don't want us to miss the harvest. We prophetically declared this year the word for our church, which God gave us for this year, 2026. It's harvest time. And I don't want you to miss the harvest. And this isn't just for the person next to you. This is for you. This is for every single person in this room. And if you don't believe me, I want to remind you of what he says about you. He has good plans for you. One Corinthians 2, 9, it says, "No, I has seen. No ear has heard. Neither has it entered into the hearts of man, the things that he has for his people." That's his promise for you, for you, every single person in this room. Jeremiah 2911, "For I know the plans I have for you, plans to prosper you, plans to give you a hope and a future." This is his word for you. So my question, Church, "Is are you ready to receive the weight that comes with the answered prayers that you've been praying?" The answered prayer of a spouse, of a husband, of a wife, it comes with a whole lot of stuff. Are you ready? The answered prayer of a child comes with an increased capacity needed for mess, an increased capacity needed for, you know, wiser spending habits, a whole lot of stuff. The answered prayer of a flourishing business comes for greater wisdom in your life. You need the wisdom of Solomon. You need discernment. You know, and not only managing your problems, but all your stuff and their problems. Your capacity needs to increase, to be able to steward the answered prayer that you're praying. You know, my dad is such a wise voice of wisdom in my life. He passed that a church in Australia for 43 years. And when I Ask him now when I He's like, "Girl, you are standing in answered prayer." He's like, "I prayed for the problems you have. Too many people, not enough seats. You mean you have to do a third service? Like, you best pray and you best be grateful." And I want to speak to you this morning from this topic, write this down. After, beyond the encounter. Beyond the encounter, dig the wells. Beyond the encounter, dig the wells. One of the most life-transforming trips
I've ever been on was about 15 years ago. And I got to spend some time up in Northern Uganda in a place called Kickham. And the war, which was between the Ugandan government and the LRA had only finished a couple of years earlier and the whole area was very much in repair. And I learned very quickly on that trip how integral a well was to life. A well was a central point of life in every village. There were a few days due to where we were traveling. We were moving around where we had one bowl of water for 24 hours, one bowl of water a day. And you choose how you use it. I've never valued water more in my entire life. And I learned on that trip the main difference between a cistern water system and a well. A cistern water system stores water from an external source, but a well is the source. A well is the source. And every village was built around the life source that was a well. And if the well dried up, the entire village would move. Otherwise they will die. And in Bible times, wells had a very similar significance. Whole cities were built according to where a well was. If the well dried up, the entire city would migrate because the shepherds needed it, the sheep needed it. The existence of a well was everyone's livelihood. And the wells that you dig in your life will be the difference between life and death,
between purpose fulfilled and purpose dying. And I want us to look at this story this morning. It's in the Old Testament in Genesis 26. I'm gonna set this scene for you. There's a famine in the land and Isaac has an encounter with God and God tells him to stay. And it makes no sense in the physical, but God sees the big picture. He knows what the future holds. He knows what's coming. He knows what's about to end. And that's why you need to be obedient if God tells you to stay somewhere, amen? Isaac stayed and God blessed him. And we're gonna pick it up in Genesis 26.18. For those who aren't familiar, maybe you've heard of Abraham and Sarah and the promised child, Isaac, this is Isaac. Genesis 26.18. It says Isaac reopened the wells that had been dug in the time of his father, Abraham, which the Philistines had stopped up after Abraham died. And he gave them the same names his father had given them. Listen, there are some wells that maybe you dug in the past or maybe a previous generation dug, but Judah, disappointment with God, aren't answered prayer, they've been filled up. And God is saying you today, you need to reopen that well. You know, a well in Isaac's day
carried incredible importance, all the things we just talked about, but also in Isaac's day, it spoke of land ownership. By digging that well, it declared that this land belongs to me. I now have ownership over this land. And Isaac is digging wells in the same land that his father dug wells, when they were filled up the wells, when the Philistines filled up the wells, they were basically saying, we don't honor the ownership of this land. Verse 19, Isaac servants dug in the valley and discovered a well of fresh water there. But the herders of Gerard quarreled with those of Isaac and said, the water is ours. So he named the well Essek because they disputed him, verse 21. Then they dug another well, but they crawled over that one. So he named it Sitna. And I just wanna pause here for a minute and point out to you, just because God told you to do something doesn't mean there won't be opposition. Verse 22, he moved on from there and dug another well, and no one quarreled over it. He named it Rahoboth, saying the Lord has given us room and we will flourish in the land. Verse 23, from there he went up to Bishiba. That night the Lord appeared to him and said, I am the God of your father, Abraham,
do not be afraid for I am with you. I will bless you. I will increase the number of your descendants for the sake of my servant Abraham. pitched his tent, and there his servants dug a well. He dug it first and then his servants dug a well. You dig these wells of living water in your life and then watch your kids start to dig wells. Watch everyone connected to you start to dig wells because they're gonna see the rivers of living water flowing in your life and they're gonna be like I want some of that. I want some of that. Verse 32, down to verse 32 it says that day Isaac servants came and told him about the well they had dug. They said we've found water. He called it Shiba and to this day the name of the town has been Bishiba. Listen there are seasons when we drink from wells that others have dug, but if God is gonna move you to where he needs you to go you're gonna have to dig your own wells. We cannot keep drinking from other people's wells. We're grateful for the wells in our life. I'm grateful for my dad Pastor Jeff. I'm grateful for the deep well he is. I'm grateful for my husband Terrence and the deep well that he is. I'm grateful for the ministers in this house that Jasmine Lemma a deep well, but I can't live off their water. I can't live off their water. I have to dig my own well of time in God's word. My own well of revelation from God to me. You know when my mom died she was just 37 years old and my oldest sister had already passed away and my dad dug some deep wells in his time in worship in prayer at the feet of Jesus and he got his own revelation that gave him peace that surpassed understanding as to why that happened, but I could not live off his revelation. I could not live off his well. His revelation could not sustain my questions and my questions for God and the anger that I had. I had to dig my own well and your kids at some point parents in the house. Your kids are gonna have to quit drinking the water from the wells that you provide and they're gonna have to dig their own wells. You know I say here every time we do child dedications I say we have to our job as parents is to win our children on to God. We cannot be Jesus for them. We cannot be
the Holy Spirit for them. We have to win them on to God. I know we want to be and we try to be. You know who you are. But our job is to win them on to God. You know the great Catherine Coleman she had arguably the most successful healing ministry in the 1970s and 18s but 80s but after her passing it was found that very few of her staff had any devotional life. They all relied on her and in a vibrant church like ours sometimes we can be inclined to just feed off the corporate anointing instead of digging our own wells. And you might be here saying Emma that sounds great but why does it matter? I'll tell you why it matters because here's what it looks like when you don't. Maybe you were in a dysfunctional environment and you created coping mechanisms to survive in that dysfunctional environment but now God has moved you to a healthy environment but you're still doing the same things and you see over there everyone was doing it so it blended in but when he removes you from that environment your coping mechanisms stand out and now you're self sabotaging but what is the solution you got to dig your own wells? God will realign. God will heal. God will teach you. When we don't dig wells in our life we are tossed and turned by our emotions and some of us in the room like our spouse they don't know what to expect. They don't know what's happening today because every emotion it's like a boat on an ocean but it says in Hebrew 619 we have this anchor for the soul firm and secure. The anchor is Jesus so as you dig your wells you're gonna drop your anchor. You aren't gonna be driven by your emotions, Emma. Maybe you were once the victim but now you're not your victorious because you have the victor living on the inside of you and you're gonna get to know who you are and who you are in Christ as you dig those wells. So when the devil tries to bring up something from your past or maybe it's your auntie at that family gathering or maybe it's that friend that used to know you back then and they try to remind you of who you used to be. You're not gonna be shaken by it because you know I know who I am. I'm a new creation in Christ. I have been made whole redeemed by the blood of the lamb. My sins are as far as the east is from the west. He remembers them no more. That's what his word says. He remembers them no more so
So why are you trying to remind him? between a good idea and a God idea, because God breathes on his word, not just good ideas. And for some of you, you're in a rebuild season because maybe your marriage has ended or you're in grief from losing a loved one and you're in the rebuild. Listen, the wells that you dig will not only get you through this season, but they will sustain you for years to come. Amen, that's why it matters. And we need the church, we need each other, but each one of us also needs to develop our own personal relationship with Jesus. So when disappointment comes, when life gets heavy, when no one else is in the room, do you know how to draw from him? Do you know how to draw directly from him? I wanna give you three practical ways that you can dig deeper in your relationship with Jesus. I want you to write these down. Note takers are history makers so that you can keep drawing from him long after the encounter. The first one is dig wells through your worship. Dig wells through your worship. Worship does the digging. Praise and worship invites the presence of God into our lives. Worship is a weapon.
It's a conduit of his presence. It's a powerful force that God speaks to us through and changes us in. It's the soundtrack to his presence. When you choose to worship, when you choose to play that song, when you get that bad news and you choose to sing out worship, when you choose to sing out worship, when you get that challenging text, listen, it causes confusion for the enemy. It causes confusion. It causes panic and confusion in Satan's ranks because praise is the opposite of a lie and Satan is called in the Bible as the father of lies. His language is lies. And most worship songs are scripture. It's his word. In fact, every worship song that we sing here at history makers church is scripture because I check all of the lyrics. 'Cause I don't want you singing nothing that is not his word. His word is powerful and yes, it's a catchy melody. So you're singing it over and over. That's how God designed music, God created music, by the way. That's how he designed it. So you're actually singing scripture and speaking scripture over yourself as you sing these songs.
One of the songs we did this morning, a Victorian authority past the Terrence wrote that song. And I was looking at that song 'cause I saw we were doing it today. And listen, there are pages and pages of scripture in that song. Let me just show you authority. One Corinthians 1557, "But thanks be to God who gives us the victory "through our Lord Jesus Christ." Luke 10, 19, "Behold, I give you the authority "to trample on serpents and scorpions "and over all the power of the enemy. "And nothing shall by any means hurt you." Matthew 28, 18, "All authority has been given to me "in heaven and on earth." And that's just two of the lines in the song. Songwriters in the room, you will actually be a better songwriter the more you read your word. You'll be a better songwriter because the devil cannot be in the presence of your worship. He cannot be in the presence of your worship of you singing out praises to your King of Kings and your Lord of Lords. And some of you just need to sing out in worship for the first time. And as you sing and declare scripture, you're digging a well that leads to rivers of living water some of you are gonna just make the smallest change
of changing your 6 a.m. wake up alarm from that piercing beeping to a worship song. So your spirit wakes up to worship. For some of you, it's as simple as turning off why 100 on your way to work and you're gonna put some worship on and you're gonna sing it out, amen? You're gonna sing it out. In John chapter 12 verse three, we read the story of Mary's worship and she pulls out expensive perfume at the feet of Jesus and in verse five, Judas complains. He says that could have been sold for 300 denari, 300 denari at the time was a year's wage. But the reason that she would or someone in that time would have had a year's wages is because it would have been saved for a wedding or a burial plot. So in pouring it out, Mary was surrendering all her plans, all her hopes, all her ambitions, all her securities, the total material security that she had. And then the Bible says that she wiped his feet with her hair. seen with her hair loose. In the culture, the women wore their hair bound and covered. Mary allowed herself to be misunderstood in her desire to worship Jesus. And in verse three, it says the house was filled with the fragrance of the ointment. Let's read it. As then Mary took out a pint of pure night, an expensive perfume, she put it on Jesus' feet and wiped his feet with her hair.
And the house was filled with the fragrance of the perfume. When they left that day, two people would have carried the beautiful aroma, Jesus and Mary because it was in her hair. When you have spent time worshiping at the feet of Jesus, you carry the aroma of the presence of God with you wherever you go. You treat people different, you speak to people different, you respond to people different. You're different in how you love people. We have to dig a well without worship. We carry the presence and the aroma of God with us everywhere we go. We dig a well when we worship in the weight for what we're believing God for. We don't need a generation or professional water drinkers. We need a generation that will dig their own wells, their own wells that lead to rivers of living water. The second tool I want to give you, write this down, you dig wells through his word. You dig wells through his word. The second well is God's word. Ephesians calls it the sort of the spirit. And when pressure comes, we need this truth established deep in us. We need his word established in us, reading it, remembering it, speaking it, obeying it. It builds a life that continues to draw directly from Jesus. And 617 says, take the helmet of salvation and the sort of the spirit which is the word of God. The sort of the spirit is the one offensive weapon out of the six items talked about in Ephesians six. Do you know the six? Okay, we'll do a series on that because not many of you said yes. But the sort of the spirit, the rest will protect you. The breastpray, the righteousness, everything will protect you except the sort of the spirit. That is how you will take ground. We dig a well when we fight by going to the word of God.
Paul tells us in Ephesians to put down the weapons that are futile. It means incapable of producing any useful result, pointless. And he says, let me show you how to really fight. What is the weapon that Paul tells us about in Ephesians 617, he says, a sort of the spirit, which is the word of God. The sort of the spirit is the word of God. Now here's something I want you to understand. This verse in the original Greek, which is what Ephesians was originally written in. The word translated word, and you can put this on the screen screen because I want them to get this, it's not the more common Greek word, logos. I'm sure many of you have heard that word, logos. That means written word. But in this original context, it's actually a Rema, Rema means spoken word. So in this passage, the Holy Spirit wants to work with God's word as it is spoken. The Holy Spirit wants us to speak God's word. And as we do, he will empower those words and use them as a sword against the enemy. His sword is God's word in your mouth. It's not enough to study the word, to know the word, you need to speak the word. Hebrews, 4/12, it says, "For the word of God is alive and active, sharper than any double edged sword. It penetrates even to divide soul and spirit, joints and marrow. It judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. There is power when you speak out the word of God into an atmosphere. When you are going into a situation and you feel fear, and instead of saying, "Please don't make me fearful," you declare His word, 2 Timothy 1, 7. Do you know it? "For God has not given me a spirit of fear, but of power, love and a sound mind." When that relative says, "Are you crazy? Your mind's crazy." Uh-uh.
His word says, "He's given me a sound mind." You speak it out. God has not given me a spirit of fear, but a power of love and a sound mind. There is power when you pray with your prayer requests to God, but you stop by declaring scripture. When I pray for healing here on a Sunday, I'm sure many of you have heard me say it. I say his words. will say to you, you say it, you say it out of your own mouth. Because I want the enemy to hear you declaring scripture, he can't stay in your presence. By your stripes, we are healed. I have prayed over myself. Many of you know my story years of debilitating depression. And I would declare scripture over myself. Psalm 118 17. I will not die. I will live and I will proclaim what the Lord has done. I used to speak that out over myself every day. I will not die. I will live and I will proclaim what the Lord has done. And guess what church? I didn't die. I lived and I proclaim every day what the Lord has done. The power of speaking out his word. But to be able to pray the word and speak it out, we actually have to know it first. We have to know the word. My favorite country, apart from America, my second favorite country is Thailand. And I know here it sounds very exotic, but Australia is close to Thailand. It's kind of like you're Mexico. Okay. So I've been to Thailand three times. And I love Thailand. I love the people. I love the culture. I love the food. I love all of it. And the first time I went to Thailand, we have a lot of Thai people in Sydney. So we had learnt, it was our honeymoon, actually, and we had learned some Thai words so that we could just communicate with some of the Thai people. And I remember waking up there the first morning waking up there
and the ocean is like crystal clear. It's like a movie. And there's this family there with the kids. And they're just standing like this far in water. And they're literally catching fish with their bare heads and pointing it in their basket. I'm like, oh my gosh, it's amazing. And so I run over to them. And I'm like, kok kok kok kok kok kok. And they were just looking at me. But everyone else was had been talking back to me. They know at the airport and they're just looking at me and they're like, because they're really friendly people. So they smiled. But I weren't talking and I'm like, kok kok kok. And I went back and I said to Terrence, I'm like, they weren't speaking back to me. He's like, and I said, I was saying kok kok kok kok. He's like, you're saying thank you. So I'm like, thank you. Thank you. They're probably thinking like, for what? What? What is this crazy tourist doing? Like, thank you for your existence. I don't know. Like, but I meant to say so what a car somebody might say, hi, how are you? You know, but I'd I'd mix up my language because I didn't not well enough. And I needed to increase my vocabulary to be able to have more conversation. And it's just like that with the word of God, the more we know the word, the more God will bring it to our remembrance in our time of need as we pray. God will bring the word to your remembrance as you pray. And the more you know the word, the more he has to speak to you with, the more he has to speak to you through. How many of you were there on Saturday last Saturday at conference? So I told some of my story last Saturday at conference. And I'm a pastor's kid but left church at 14. I was away from God and church deconstructed the whole thing. And all of y'all had a whole lot of opinions about it for eight years came back at 22
years old. That's the express version. And when I came back to God at 22, I got radically saved on a Sunday night. Now at the time I had two jobs like a normal job. And then Thursdays and Fridays, I worked at a lingerie restaurant. Some of you weren't expecting that, were you? This is what you miss out on when you don't come to conference, you get all the tea. So I get radically saved on Sunday night, I had my normal job and then it's Thursday. And I don't know what to do because I'm feeling the conviction of the Holy Spirit for the first time. And I know that I can't be there. I know that I shouldn't go there but I don't know what to do. Two things. I'm like, how am I going to pay my rent? And also I was actually very scared of the people that ran the place. They're very controlling. There's lots of threats. They make you feel like you can't leave. And so I go on Thursday and I actually start to make my way in and my heart is beating. And I'm like, I know I can't be here. I don't know what to do God. I don't know what to do. I go in and it's the morning and we start setting the tables. We actually did set the tables. And I'm like, God, I can't be here and I walk into a linen closet to pretend to get a table cloth and it's this little tiny closet and I close the door behind me. And I pray. And I said, God, you got to get me out of here. Because it was like rain the presence was so tangible in that place and I hear the Holy Spirit say just walk out But I started talking back in My little 22 year old self. I might be you don't understand these people are so scary They're gonna grab me. They're gonna let not let me leave and also like are you gonna like how are you gonna work it out for me to pay my rent like and I hear his voice again just walk out Now remember, I'm a church kid. I knew lots of scripture. I knew lots of Bible stories I just had no idea how to apply it to my own life and in that moment
I saw a picture of a story I knew from when I was a little girl and it was Sodom and Gomorrah It was like a cartoon of a Bible story I'd seen and it was lots wife and the family's running and lots wife turns back and she turns into a pillar of salt and she dies and in that moment, I saw that picture. I hadn't thought about that for probably 18 years But God brought that story to my remembrance in that moment and I realized in that moment that he was showing me I'm giving you a way out, but you have free will It's up to you what you're gonna do, but if you stay you will die In that moment God brought to my remembrance something that I knew of him and I remember I walked out I was really scared. I didn't make eye contact with anyone and I'm quickly grab my stuff I quickly get dressed and to get out it was an underground restaurant I had to run upstairs now this restaurant hadn't opened yet and I didn't know if the doors were locked I didn't know if we could get out But I knew that I couldn't have any conversation with anyone because they would convince me to stay and I knew I didn't have the words to say like how am I gonna tell them that I'm leaving? Like I was very very scared and I remember grabbing my stuff and I run through the restaurant I run up the stairs and I've honestly I've never been so scared in my life because if that door was locked I was in trouble and I push on the door and it opens and I run out into the street and I ran honestly four or five blocks straight I ran I did not look back and I never went back to that place God worked it all out but in that moment God brought to my remembrance his word and the more we know the word the more that he has vocabulary to speak to us you're gonna be in a situation and he's gonna prompt you with a scripture he's gonna prompt you with a Bible story that you've read he's speaking to you we have to increase our vocabulary to fight dig a well of the word in your life put it on post it notes around your house dig a well speak it out whatever problem you're facing there is a solution in this book there is for the exact problem that you're facing we have to dig a well to understand what God says about us you know I came into a relationship with Jesus back into relationship at 22 and I needed to learn what God said about me who I was and who's I was because I had been living
by what people had said about me and I had to get into his word and understand to Corinthians 5 17 therefore if anyone is in Christ Jesus the new creation has come the oldest God the new is here Romans 8 1 therefore there is no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus Romans 8 28 he works all things together for good for those who love him and are called according to his purposes do you love him have you given your life to him well then he's called you to great things that's you Romans 8 37 knowing all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us some of you need to take some pictures of these scriptures because you can't write them down far enough fast enough you need to put them around your house you need to put them in your car 1 John 4 4 for he who is in you his greater than he who is in the world this is the living word the living word it is alive it is active and as I spoke out the word it washed over me it healed me I had to learn who I was and whose I was in Christ I may have felt unloved and alone but Jesus had actually never left me and as I dug it deep well of knowing who I was in Christ he healed me and some of you need to start digging that well God will bring the word to your remembrance if you know the word, but we have to increase our And I'm not talking about naming it and claiming it for some self-serving decision, okay? I need you to understand this. I'm talking about, hey, parents in the room, this is what you need to pray. Proverbs 4.25, pray this over your children that they will look straight ahead, fix their eyes and what lies before them. Mark out a path straight for your feet. Stay on the safe path. Don't get sidetracked. Keep your feet from following evil. Declare scripture over them. Pray for them that yes, in this generation, the instant gratification generation, everything at their fingertips, that they wouldn't be the weakest generation. As people have said, this would be the strongest generation because with everything at their fingertips, they would still choose God. It's harder today to choose God than ever before. Pray these scriptures over them. The sort of the spirit is the word of God. Jesus even used it. What did Jesus do? 40 day fast in Matthew? We read the devil comes to him saying, well, if you are the son of God, jump off this cliff. The devil comes to try and actually distort scripture. He takes it out of context. And what does Jesus reply? He quotes scripture. It happens three times.
And then in Matthew 4, 11, it says, then the devil left him and angels came and attended him. Then the devil left him. The devil is allergic to scripture. When Jesus was in the midst of battle, Jesus quoted scripture. It's all throughout his life and his ministry. When he's being questioned by religious leaders, some of you got some people in your life and they know religion but they don't have a relationship with Jesus and they'd be asking you questions. What does Jesus say? What does he respond? Haven't you read? And then he quotes scripture. Even when he's fighting for his life on the cross, he actually speaks scripture. Luke records him saying, into your hands, I commit my spirit. But that's actually scripture. It's in Psalms. Psalms 31 five, into your hands, I commit my spirit. Deliver me, Lord, my faithful God. Even an agony on the cross, he actually is speaking scripture. He's speaking the word. When he's tempted, he speaks scripture. When he's confronted, he speaks scripture. When he's an agony, he speaks scripture. And if the son of God used scripture in the midst of a battle, then how much more should we be memorizing the very words and promises of God so that the spirit can bring those forth to us in the midst of our battle. Dig a well by getting into his word. Every day, you know, the word is a double edged sword is what it says. So yes, it destroys the enemy, but it also does surgery on your own heart. And some of you have been using the word to work on your perceived enemies who you perceive your enemies. But I think God actually wants the word to work on you. Have you allowed his word to be able to go forth and allowed him to be like the skilled surgeon that he isn't cut out anything of your own heart that shouldn't be there anymore? Some of us, he's not going to change our circumstances, but he's going to change us as we dig wells through the word. And the third, write this down. We dig wells through the whispers. And what am I talking about? The whispers of the Holy Spirit when we are in prayer. In prayer. Prayer is a two way conversation. For some of us, we need to dig a well by just getting up 20 minutes earlier. We have two and a half months left of the year. Everything can change by the end of the year. I promise you, if you get up 20 minutes earlier, it's 20 minutes. And just pray. Commit the beginning of your day to God. Just pray. Listen, it's 20 minutes. If you're like, I'll be tired. You're already tired. Like you're already tired. Be tired with the purpose. 20 minutes earlier, you're still going to be tired. Like just be tired. Drink coffee and be like prayed up. Ready for battle. Amen. It's in your prayer time that you'll hear the whispers of the Holy Spirit. It's in prayer that I have done deeper wells of
trusting God no matter what the outcome is. As you dig wells in prayer, you'll hear the prompting to forgive that person, to let go of that person, to send that person a message. The key to the relationship in your life that you so desperately want to heal will be revealed through the whispers of the Holy Spirit as you pray. As you pray. God will help you see situations from his perspective. As you pray, but you have to be humble enough to accept that maybe you were seeing it wrong before. But even the strength for that will come. hear the whispers and you'll be awakened to the wonder of God. Do you want to be awakened to the wonder of God? Do you want to be awakened to the wonder of God? Genesis 26 18, let's read that again. Isaac reopened the wells that had been dug in the time of his father Abraham which the Philistines had stopped up. Isaac reopened the wells, his father had dug and for some of us today is your invitation to return. For some of you there was a time when you bought everything to Jesus, when you opened the Word with expectation, when you talked to Him throughout the day, but somewhere along the way disappointment came, life became busy maybe or you got weary and today God is saying I want you to begin again. I want you to dig the wells again and reopening a well might begin with a simple prayer like Jesus. I miss you. I want to make room for you again because beyond the encounter, beyond an encounter like last weekend there is a relationship with Him through worship, through His Word, through prayer. We keep coming back to Jesus and as we finish today we're actually going to come back to something Jesus Himself asked us to remember and its communion. So if you don't have the elements with you, you should have got them on your way in. I'm going to ask you to raise your hand. Our host team is walking up and down the aisles. They're going to put them in your hand if you don't have it. I want to invite you just to hold it for a minute. We've got some over this side host team. Lots on this side actually. As the host team hand those out, we're going to take this together as a church family so please don't go anywhere. Before we do that, I actually want to give you an opportunity if you've never accepted Jesus to accept Jesus. And maybe you did this but you did this many years ago. Maybe you did it when you were younger but you know that your relationship has grown cold and you
want to reconnect your life with His. You want to reconnect your heart to His. Keep your hand raised if you need a communion element but I'm going to ask the rest of you just to close your eyes and bow your head just to respect the privacy of those around you praying this for the first time. You know His Word says in Romans, "If you believe in your heart and confess with your mouth that you will be saved." So I want to lead you in a prayer and I'm not going to embarrass you. I'm not going to get you to come out the front. This is between you and God. And in fact everyone has their eyes closed and their head bounced so it's just me that can see you but if you're going to pray that prayer to accept Jesus into your heart could you just raise your hand so I can see where you are. Thank you I see your hand. Raise it high. Thank you I see your hand. Thank you I see your hand. Amen. Thank you I see your hand. Amen. Amen. Amen. Amen. Thank you I see your hand. Heaven is rejoicing. Heaven is rejoicing sons and daughters coming back home. Let's pray this with them church. Did Jesus? Come on pray it loud. Did Jesus. Thank you for dying on the cross for me. Today I commit to follow you. Lead my life Lord. I declare that today I am saved. Amen. Amen. Amen. Amen. Come on. Heaven is rejoicing. I'm going to ask you to stand to your feet. I want to read you this scripture. One Corinthians 11 it says for I receive from the Lord what I also passed on to you. The Lord Jesus on the night he was betrayed he took the bread and when he had given thanks he broke it and said this is my body which is for you. Do this in remembrance of me. I want you to remember what he has done for you. In the same way after supper he took the cup saying this cup is the new covenant in my blood. Do this whenever you drink it in remembrance of me. For whenever you eat this bread or drink this cup you proclaim the Lord's death until he comes. Until he comes he's coming back church. He's coming back. He's coming back. And he gave this to the church as something and he asked us that we should if we could and that we should return to it to remember him. When life is full of joy remember him. When life is weary remember him no matter what you're walking through. Remember And I just want you to close your eyes and just take a moment to ask God, examine my heart God.
Is there an area of my life where I need to make more room for you? Is there someone in my life I need to forgive? Is there something I've been carrying God but I need to put down? I'm going to ask you to take the bread. The bread represents his body that was broken. And you remember his body that was broken for us and let's eat it together. And then take the cup. The cup represents his blood that was shed for us on the cross. He didn't have to do it but he did. Because he saw you and he saw you as worthy. His blood that was shed for us. Why don't you thank him as you drink? Just tell him thank you in your own words. Let him hear your words saying thank you. Thank you Jesus. I thank you that you see us, thank you that you loved us so much, that you saw us worthy. It's for your body to be broken for your blood to be shed just so that we could be in relationship with you. Say thank you. Tell him you're thankful. Tell him you're grateful. Tell him you're thankful. Thank you God we thank you God we're so grateful God I pray that we would be a church that is always in a position of thankfulness of giving thanks to you God for your sacrifice for what you did for us on the cross. God I pray that we would never become apathetic to what you did for us. I pray that we would always be hungry for you God. I pray that you would put a stirring in the hearts of everyone in this room today. God that would that would be a stirring that we would want to seek your word that we would want to spend time in prayer with you that we would want to lift our voice in worship
and thanks and just give glory to you God. I pray that there would be a stirring a fresh stirring a fresh hunger and God I pray that we would always be reminded in our coming and our going in every moment of the day that you did for us that we would always have a posture of gratefulness of thankfulness just for who you are God. In your mighty name we pray.
