When God Calls You!
How does your life change in response to the gospel? What does it mean for you to be deployed? What does it mean for you to say yes to your calling today, to be deployed? Because there's no time to waste on the calling that God hath over your life. You have to say yes to being discovered. You have to say yes to being developed. You have to say yes. But I just want to start by recapping the last few weeks here at HistoryMakers. Two weeks ago, Pastor Emma helped us find his presence. She spoke a word on consecration and what it looks like to have a consecrated prayer life and how it positions us. And then last week, Pastor Terrence helped us find our people. He spoke about community and conviction and how a healthy community brings just dialogue to talk about what God's been doing in your life. And today my goal is to help you find your purpose. Because when you find his presence, his presence leads you to his people and when you're planted among his people, you begin to discover his purpose for your life. You see, we actually need the consecration. We need community. We need conviction because we are called. You're called. Despite what your life looks like, despite what you're gone through, you have purpose today. And so today I want to talk to all the people who have ever asked God, what did you put me on earth to do? Over the last five years, I've had the privilege of serving here at HistoryMakers and I want to walk you through my journey, the what, the who, the when, the when, the why. The good things, the fruitful things, the things that were challenging, the things I had to learn and I think the best way to do that is to start before the beginning. So it's always really cool to hear how people have came here to HistoryMakers.
Some have come through one social media post. Some have come through word of mouth, but for me, before HistoryMakers, I was actually a part of a church plant where my in-laws PJ and Lisey pastored. And we were serving the Lord faithfully in that season. And in 2019, we experienced a ripple. And if you were here last week, you saw what a ripple does. It's when one power of an invite brings life transformation to several people. And we experienced that ripple because we, our ripple person, was actually Hector Lopez. And in 2019, we invited Hector to come and preach at our church that we were serving then and he brought along pastor Terrence. And the rest is history from there, Pastor Terrence quickly fell in love with our family. And time had passed as we were serving our church plant, time had passed and COVID hit the world. And when COVID hit, we saw our church shrink down in size to really just about our family. So in 2020, what we did was we decided we were going to pray and fast before the New Year started to see what the Lord had in store for us, what the plan was. And it was so funny because at the end of our fast, we had a call from Pastor Terrence. PJ gets a call from Pastor Terrence and he's like, "Pastor Terrence wants us to join his church and help build this church." And we had just gone through prayer and fasting and seeking the Lord and trying to hear from him what he had in store for us and then we get a call. So we decided that God was giving us clear direction and God makes no mistake. So we decided to join history makers to build this church. And I want that to be a clear picture that sometimes when we say yes to God, it's not always linear. There's different routes to your calling. There's different routes to your yes, but God is in every route. My whole life leading up to 2020 had been full of the promises of God for my life. I've had prophetic words and insights. People who don't know me would speak into my life and say, "You're going to do this.
You're going to do that." I heard that a lot growing up. And so because of it, I acted on the call and I've done youth ministry. I've preached. I've led worship and I had given God so many yeses. However, we sometimes believe that the call over our life is a final destination. The thing is that the pathway is the call. The call over your life does not have just one assignment. The call is the journey. And so everything I've experienced up until now, every yes I've ever given God, has led me to where I am today. So for you, you may see a yes to be on this platform, a yes to lead worship, but behind this yes is a continuous yes to being discovered. It's a continuous yes to being developed. It's a yes to being defined, and it's a yes to being deployed. Many of you are maybe a new believer, you're new to the faith, and you're probably asking, well, what is my purpose? What am I supposed to be doing? Does anyone know? Maybe you have a relationship with God and he's been giving you a glimpse, or maybe you're walking in it, or maybe this is your first time here today, and you're like, I'm not really sure what I'm saying yes to. Pastor T says this quote all the time.
He says, the greatest, there's two great days in someone's life. The day that they're born, and the day that they find out why. So let's open up the word today. To Jeremiah chapter one, verses four to 10. And when you have it, I want you to give a loud, resounding amen. (congregation laughs) Amen, who else has it? (congregation laughs) I love Sam. And it reads like this, you don't have it yet? Amen. (congregation laughs) Now the word of the Lord came to me saying, before I formed you in the womb, I knew you. And before you were born, I consecrated you. I appointed you a prophet to the nation. Someone say, discover. (congregation laughs) Then I said, oh, Lord God, behold, I do not know how to speak for I am only youth. But the Lord said to me, do not say I am only youth for to all to whom I send you, you shall go. And whatever I command you, you shall speak. Someone say, develop. (congregation laughs) Do not be afraid of them for I am with you
to deliver you, declares the Lord. And then the Lord put out his hand and touched my mouth. Someone say, define. (congregation laughs) And the Lord said to me, behold, I have put my words in your mouth. See, I have set you this day over nations and over kingdoms to pluck up and to break down, to destroy and to overthrow, to build and to plant. Somebody say, deploy. - Deploy. - Let's pray. Thank you, Jesus, for your word. Thank you because your word says that we are called for such a time as this. So breathe in this room today. Move in this room and have your way in Jesus' name. Amen. Amen. - In these verses, we read about Jeremiah who considered himself maybe too young or too inexperienced to fulfill the calling of God over his life. But I love the very first verse, it's so critical because it says, the word of the Lord came to me. In other words, the call on your life is God's initiative. It's his big idea for you. He created you with purpose and on purpose. So make no mistake, the word of the Lord goes first.
And the hardest part about purpose is that it isn't always discovered in just one moment it's discovered in process. And we can look at the call on the purpose over our life in four major points to discover, to develop, to define and to deploy. Because God designed something in me before I could see it. Then he helped me discover it. He put people in my life to help me discover it. He positions me to be developed and over time he defines it and eventually deploys it. So the first point today is discover. God knew you before you knew you. So God designed something in me before I could see it. There was a season in my life where I felt like I was hidden. So I knew the call over my life, like I said earlier. I knew that there was more, but my life didn't actually look like the call. But God was actually taking me through a process, and I felt like I was hidden. I had a picture in my mind of this, and it completely looked different. So within a few weeks of joining history makers, we attended a one-day Destiny Steps Express, and on that day I learned all about our Aussie pastors. I learned about who they were, why they were here, the vision for history makers. And there came a part of the day where you discover your divine design. You see, divine design, the design that God made you, the way He created you, it reveals your destiny. The way God designed us is directly connected to our destiny. And if you're here today and you want to discover your divine design, I'm going to call you out, and I'm going to invite you to Destiny Steps this Saturday. And I can't wait, wait, clap your hands if you're going to be there. Clap your hands if you're thinking about it.
Alright, I'm going to challenge you this morning for you to show up on Saturday so that you can discover your divine design. I'm actually believing that hundreds of you will be there, because I believe that in order to start the process of your calling, you got to make one faith step. So will you say you would be there this Saturday? During Destiny Steps, there's a section where you answer some questions about yourself and at the end of it you score it. And I scored pretty high in worship and administration. And over the next months, after Destiny Steps, I started to serve on the worship team. And there came a time where Pastor Terrence and Pastor Emma were looking for an assistant. And in that season, I felt like I was already serving the church. And so I said, "You know, God, is this something that you want me to do?" And I felt the Lord say, "Go." And so I quit my job, I became their assistant, and I just walked into it, had no idea what I was getting myself into. You see, I had never done ministry like this before. It was new territory, new ground, new culture, new people. And like Jeremiah, who didn't feel like he was good enough, but knew that he was cogged, I also experienced like maybe I'm not what they need, because I don't actually know how to plant a church like this, but my gift made room for me. And in that, I was like, "I don't really know these people, I don't know this side of things." And I grew up in more of a Pentecostal kind of church. And so I felt like they were on the opposite end until I realized they're not. But in the time, I was like, "This is completely different for me." In my old churches, when someone corrected me, I felt like it was criticism, and they were judging me, and I wasn't good enough. But on this side, when I got feedback, it was hard for me to really get it, because I thought I was being judged, but what I was actually doing was being discovered. As their assistant, I was learning everything for the first time, and they were also learning me, learning who I was, where I came from.
It was a new culture. They're Australian, I'm American, and Hispanic. I'm like, "Do they understand me? Do they get what I'm trying to say?" And it's easy to get stuck in the discovery zone, because things are different, because it's hard. When God sends you into your calling, like Jeremiah, you're probably like, "Well, how do I actually do what I'm called to do?" In verse 5, God says three things that shape us to trust Him in the discovery season. He says, "I knew you." So God knew Jeremiah personally, he knows you personally. He said, "I formed you. Make no mistake. Your life is not random." God is intentional with His creation. And number three, He said, "I consecrated you." You see, God set you apart for a purpose, and slowly, but surely, I started moving into a season of development. Point 2, development, your purpose requires process. Verse 6 says, "Do not say I am only youth, for to all, to whom I send you, you shall go." This is not a maybe you'll go, maybe you'll think about it, it's you shall go. And whatever I commend you, you shall speak. And I can imagine the fear that maybe Jeremiah had So it's not just one group. It's many groups of people that he had to speak over. What if they don't listen? Maybe you're asking God some questions about your calling. What if this is not gonna work? I can imagine the fear that he had
because sometimes I deal with that fear of the unknown. I deal with the fear because I actually like to be comfortable. I like to have a little bit of control in my life. Jeremiah is looking at the assignment through the lens of his limitations, but God is looking at the assignment through the lens of his calling. Your responsibility today isn't to decide if you're qualified or not. Your responsibility is to obey. Some of us want to be deployed. Some of us want the mic without being developed. But God loves us way too much to expose what he hasn't yet developed. It's a process. So what is God asking you to do? And what are the excuses you're giving him? When I wrote that down, it hurt. 'Cause development is uncomfortable. You see, Pastor Terrence and Pastor Emma, they run strict programs. They work very hard. And we all live in America, but that program is Australian. Okay, because for me, part of the program was to, part of their program was and is to pull what God showed them about me out of me. And they saw what was in me and weren't afraid to stretch me. And that shepherds, their job was to pull me up
and into what my calling required. You see, there's a cost to the call over your life. And when you say yes, there is a process attached to your yes, where God begins to shape you and mold you and form you into what that purpose requires. So whatever it is that you're going through, maybe the shaping and the forming hurts a little bit, but it's required for the call. There is discomfort in the development process. When Pastor Terrence said that God gave him 40 years, a vision of the 40 years of the rest of his life, I should have known that I was a part of that vision, that he also has vision for his sheep. You see, in the development process, I learned, I watched as a staff, we traveled together, shout out to the staff of History Maker's Church. (audience cheering) I know what it feels like. I know what it is to be on staff. So I honor you today, I honor your commitment, I honor your yes. We would travel as staff and we would go to different conferences and we would learn how other churches did what we wanted to do. We saw their systems and what we did is we would come back and we would create the system using a template and form it the way that History Maker's needed to go. We developed our own, we dreamt together about all that God would do at History Maker soon. We dreamt what History Maker's worship would look like.
And during that time, what we did was we planted seeds that five years later, we're seeing the harvest from. In development, my giftings became clearer. My first time preaching at History Maker's wasn't technically at daughter's conference last year, it was a middle school girls group in an ice cream shop. It was a small yes, but don't despise the small yes to leading a group because now I actually get to see those same girls leading other people. You see, when you commit to development, it doesn't just affect you, it pulls everyone around you to another level. Justin and I had been, my husband and I have been dating before History Maker's and in my season of development, Justin was also being developed. Justin and his family, that is a line of worshipers, so worship wasn't neat to him. The form was a little different. Justin is a dancer as well, and so is his family. But what happens is when we both committed to being developed in worship leading, who would have thought? Who would have known what God would do? Who would have known that every week we get to lead together, that every day we get to be side to side, worshiping together and leading other people into worship? What happens in the development season? If we didn't commit to that process, we would have never saw what the Lord can do. looks like when you stay planted, when you commit to the process, because your development will require a process. The next phase is to define. Define means to
clarify the call. Verse 9 says, "Then the Lord put out His hand and touched my mouth. After a few months, a year and a half or so being on staff, I had to enter into a transitional season where I made the choice to leave staff and just be fully a volunteer. And this season I felt like the Lord was really defining my call. What I thought was going back to a development season, God was actually taking me through refinement. And what that looked like was I was like, man, maybe I have to start all over, but I remember the Lord telling me very clearly, I had to use the season of discovery and development as an assistant so that He would use me in a different season to define my call. You see, to say that better, it didn't mean that I wasn't supposed to be their assistant. It just meant that God used that season to develop me so that I would lean in. And when I left staff, I went into a transitional season. I got married. I started a new job. It was just so much different, different things that I was experiencing. And it made me feel like, God, I'm back to that place where I don't actually know what I'm doing. Jeremiah 6, verse 6 says, "I don't know how to speak." But then in verse 5, God puts out His hand to directly touch His mouth. You see, God addresses the exact place where Jeremiah feels inadequate. So for me, I felt like the Lord started to touch and speak into the areas of my life where I felt like I'm inadequate. I'm not enough. I'm not good enough. But what He does in His grace and mercy is He extends His hand and He touches His mouth. And this is where God begins to define. This is where He begins to refine so that we can trust Him to sustain it. You see, I left a position of administration, but I walked into a position of worship leadership. He's trying to define what maybe you're hiding from Him. Well, maybe you're not giving because you feel like maybe this is just not it. The call is a process and He's ready to define it. When God calls you, He may not always give you confidence in your ability, but He will give you confidence in His ability through you. You see, refinement to me looks like leading a worship team that constantly changes and is growing. But if I didn't trust the path for the calling, I would have quit prematurely and stopped the development. And when you're on a team, you begin to
learn and understand the why behind the what. And the season of refinement, the Lord is equipping you and He will use people to do it. A part of the touch where I felt like God led me was to bring community to clarify the call over my life. So He will use team leads. He will use group leads and community to hold you accountable. Do you want to be held accountable? Because it's a part of the process. We need people, find your people, find your purpose. For me, it was Emma and Terrence who will not back down because they see what God sees. For me, it was PJ and Lisi through their years of wisdom and how they speak into my life. For me, it's also Joel and Hector Lopez who aren't afraid to correct me and keep me on a narrow path. And the path is narrow, my friends. You see, there are leaders in the room who are walking in consecration and they can see your calling clearly. Will you let them speak? They're ready to equip you the way that God equips them. And because of the process I'm actually no longer afraid, I can't believe I'm saying this, I'm no longer afraid to speak into other people's life. There's some people in the team that I'm like, there's leadership over your life. You should actually lead a group. Tell me a little bit about that. Why did you think that? Oh, okay. So you should share that with other people. I'm not afraid because purpose gets clear in community. That's just my experience. Because when you're being defined and refined, the call over your life is clear. So you actually can't run away from it anymore. We see in the Bible with the story of Jonah where God called him to preach to a city. He heard the call, he knew what he was supposed to do, but he ran away from it. And maybe you hear the call over your life today, and it's clear as day. But you're afraid or you actually just don't like it, 'cause Jonah didn't like that city.
In fact, because of his own situation and his own view on things, he went the opposite way and ran and if you don't know how the story ends, he actually ended up in the mouth of a fish. And so God will make things very clear for you. If that a fish's mouth is not clear enough, God will make it very clear for you that you're running away from your calling. Something happens when you respond to the call. The call over your life can be costly, but it's not always easier or cheaper to run away than to stay. I'm here to tell you today that your calling is not on sale. Unfortunately, there are no discounts here. But how beautiful it is to stay on the potter's wheel, to look at what the Lord has done, because I decided to follow the call, because I said yes to the call. My family is a beneficiary of it. My marriage benefits from it. When I decide to enter the call, it's a ripple effect. When I say yes, the anxiety surrender, the loneliness left, because I said yes to submitting myself to the journey of my calling. So imagine what God can do for you when you remain yielded, when you give him a continuous yes to being discovered, to being developed and to being defined. And my last point,
my last but not least is deploy. Purpose is something you do. Verse nine and 10 says, "Behold, I have put my words in your mouth. See, I have set you this day over nations and over kingdoms to pluck up and to break down, to destroy and to overthrow, to build and to plant." You see, God gave Jeremiah the assignment after he establishes Jeremiah's identity and assures him. So Jeremiah had to go through the process. Jeremiah had to hear an answer to the call before the assignment was assigned. The assignment is not the calling. The calling is the journey. The calling never stops. You've been chosen for such a time as this. In the last year, I've actually leaned into deployment. There's a cost to the calling when we say yes, and there's a cost to the calling when we say no. You eventually have to participate in your purpose. Last year, I joined Daughters Leadership Co, which is now History Maker's Leadership Co. And there's gonna be a QR code behind me that comes up on History Maker's Leadership Co. And really quick, I wanna talk about that for just 10 seconds. Daughters Leadership, History Maker's Leadership Co, really challenged me to be a better leader. It really took me from one level to the next level. It challenged me to read more because leaders are readers.
It caused me to actually make a decision to lean in. And if you're here today and you lead a group or if you lead a team, you need History Maker's Leadership Co. So sign up with the QR screen behind me because I'm really, really, really, really believing that it's gonna shift some things. It's gonna make, that community is gonna make your calling crystal clear. So I leaned into being developed as a leader because you never stop learning. I leaned into History Maker's worship and with the originals alongside Pastor Terrence and songwriting it, I leaned into being a better leader for the worship team. I had to make a lot of apologies for who I was before, but now I know 'cause the calling is clarified. It's my turn to see the call over their lives and to push people up and pull them up and push them into their calling. Matthew 28, 19 says, "Therefore, in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. That is the great commission, and we have been commissioned. We've been commissioned to go and make disciples, but we cannot take anyone through a process we haven't been through ourselves. How does your life look like? How does your life change in response to the gospel? What does it mean for you to be deployed? What does it mean for you to say yes to your calling today, to be deployed?
So today I wanna encourage you, and I want to deploy you as I wrap up. That's it? Because there's no time to waste on the calling that God has over your life. You have to say yes to being discovered. You have to say yes to being developed. You have to say yes to being defined, even though it hurts, even though they don't understand me. You have to say yes, because there are people who are waiting for the call of your life. You have to go through the process in order to be deployed. Will you answer the commission? So I wanna deploy you today. I wanna challenge you to give God one year of your life, to give him one simple yes, one Saturday. Worship to God may often look like what we sing, but worship is a stance. It's an action to live out the call over your life. So will you do it? Will you respond to the call? It has to start somewhere. For most of you, it's gonna be this Saturday and I can't wait to meet you. I can't wait to hear about what God is doing. I can't wait to hear about what He, what you feel like He hasn't done so that someone can say, "Actually, this is God." Take the first step to being planted. It doesn't mean that you're gonna figure out
your entire life on Saturday. It doesn't mean you're gonna figure out the entire future, but it's a start where you can respond to the calling over your life with your time, your talent, your treasure. So I wanna make a few calls today. You guys can stand to your feet. The first call is to know Jesus, the one that called you. So maybe you're listening like, I actually, who is this Jesus? Who is this God that you guys are talking about that has called me? You would have heard it from my story. You would have heard it from the story of Jeremiah in the Bible that the Lord will never leave you, nor forsake you, that in every season He promises to be there. And if you wanna know Jesus for yourself today so that you can live out this call over your life, so that you can live out the purpose in which He designed you and accept Him as your savior, would you just raise your hand in this room today? Come on, I see your hand, one, two, three. Come on, out four, five. There is a call over your life. And I'm here to tell you that though it is a process, it is so worth it. It is so worth it knowing the Jesus, the savior of the world. Romans 10, nine says that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart
that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved and not only will you be saved, but you would walk out the call with Him right next to you. So if that's you, would you pop up your hand one more time and we're gonna pray and I just want you to repeat this prayer with me. So Father, thank you for sending Jesus to die on the cross from me, so that I would have access, so that I would be able to live with you for the rest of my life. Today, I repent from going my own way, I just turn from going my own way and I choose to follow you Jesus, so that today I will no longer be curious, but I would know that you are the savior of my life, that you have called me for a time as this, that I would have walked into the calling with you on my side. In Jesus' name we pray, amen and amen. Come on, would you lift it up for them? The second call today You're probably thinking like wow, this is a lot of destiny steps talk But I want you to know that it's so important because even though it's destiny steps. This is the first step And if that's you today and you want to join there's gonna be a card in the pocket right in front of you Would you just take that out? Discover your divine design at destiny steps and it starts here Would you just fill this out first and last name phone in the email so we can contact you So that we can connect with you so that we can prepare for you on Saturday Commit to discovering your design
What I want you to do is if it's you and you and you're gonna fill this out I just want you to come in you can just leave it in the button these baskets that are gonna be up here. You can take your time Come and drop it up here and The last call is that you've already done destiny steps maybe or maybe you already know the call over your life But you need someone to speak into the call someone to pull you up Would you come here so that we can pray for you? Would you take that step so that we can pray for the calling over your life? The way that God called Jeremiah to be a prophet of the nations He called him to pluck up to build to plan and maybe today you actually want to respond to the call over your life I'm believing that we're gonna partner with you in community so that we can pray for the call over your life For you, maybe you're on the fence Maybe on this side of your know because it's comfortable and on the other side is yes Today, I want you to take that step of faith and say yes to your call I'm gonna pray for you right now father. Thank you so much Thank you, Jesus. Thank you for you for your people, Lord. Thank you for what you're doing in their lives Thank you for the call Lord. We know that the call is costly, but today we stand we stand and we take action And we say yes, we say yes to the call we respond to the call Lord because you won't forsake us Because you're already on the other side. So holy spirit Have your way holy spirit have your way in this place that we would respond to the call God That we will no longer be in fear that we will no longer think we're inadequate But Lord that we would walk into the call. We would take the step of faith and we would say yes We would say yes a small yes today to open up a pathway of worship Pest way of our call right now we commit to the journey we commit to the journey Jesus we thank you because you committed to the call you committed you committed God And so we thank you Jesus for your ultimate sacrifice. We thank you Jesus. Lord. We worship you We thank you. We thank you in Jesus name we pray Come on the worship team is just gonna sing put your hands up your hands in this place Have you Say

So fill this out, but I want to pray for you as you leave today. Father, we thank you. Because there is no doubt in us. There is no doubt that you've called us to such a time as this. We thank you because you give us, you equip us in order to say yes to the calling. It means you don't ever leave us nor forsake us. You don't just leave us to figure it out on our own, but you provide a community so that we can look up to you, Jesus, together. So I thank you for the anointing in this room right now, God. I thank you because we get to say yes together.
Lord, that this week they would begin to make small yeses and small choices and give it to you because they won't despise a small yes, but that they would look back in a few weeks, a few months, a few years to see that they've gone through the process because of their yes. So I thank you for History Maker's Church. I thank you for our pastors. I thank you for the vision that you've given them so clearly, God. I thank you in your son's name, you pray. Amen. Amen. Amen. Hey, heaven is celebrating and we are celebrating with you. And we want to walk this journey together. So if you prayed that prayer or you just want to know more about Jesus, follow the prompts that are on the screen right now. We are so proud of you. And honestly, God's vision for you is to see you live that better story. Epic and eternal, we say like this to see you. Holy, healthy, happy and bring in heaven to earth. And if you're watching and you want to help others find Jesus like that, you can partner with us and together we can make that epic difference. Hey, giving details are coming up on the screen and we just say God's blessed you. You can be a blessing to other people as well. And hey, if you're here in the South Florida area, we'd love to see you in person. Check out the description below for times and the location where you can come to a service. We would love to see you soon. This is History Makers Chat where friends truly become family. See you soon. [Music]
