I want to start with a story of something I experienced years ago at the house of a friend named Eric Samson. He is known as Eric the Flute Maker. He is the flutist. Some have known Eric through the years here in our church. He is an American man with a long beard, but he speaks Spanish perfectly because he was a missionary in different parts of Latin America throughout his life.

And Eric makes flutes. He is a flute maker for the whole world. In fact, most of the instruments he makes in his house, here in Davie, he has them in his workshop, which is in his patio. He has a large patio full of bamboo. The whole patio is a reserve. I would say more than three decades. I have known him for 30 years. I think he has been living in that area since that time. He has been working with bamboo in his land, in his patio. It is interesting. If you have never learned or heard of bamboo, it is fascinating. When he started that, he told us the story at his house when we were there for a reason. He told us that when you first plant bamboo, as he had to do years ago for the first time, you water it, fertilize it, work the land, and take care of it. But let me tell you, nothing comes out of the surface of the land for a long time. Year one, nothing. He keeps working it, he keeps watering it. Year two, nothing. I imagine that the neighbors at some point approached him and asked him, what are you watering there? Bamboo. Year three, are you sure there is bamboo there? Nothing. Year four, nothing. But the fifth year, this expert in bamboo explained to us, something extraordinary happens in the fifth year. The bamboo breaks the ground, that is, it comes out of the ground, and suddenly in six weeks it can reach up to 90 feet in height. In six weeks, that is, in a month and a half. He asks, did the bamboo grow 90 feet in six weeks?

No. He has been preparing, cooking, and growing, developing its roots under the ground for all these years, strengthening and preparing for the coming growth. Many of us want God to work quickly. We want immediate answers. We want God's celestial break in our lives immediately. We want immediate solutions. Es fácil confiar en Dios cuando las relaciones están saludables. Es fácil confiar en Dios cuando las finanzas están estables. Es fácil confiar en Dios cuando las cosas van marchando como esperamos y queremos que marchen. Pero, ¿qué tal cuando la vida toma giros que no esperamos? ¿Qué tal cuando nos llega un diagnóstico médico después de los exámenes que nos hemos hecho que no esperábamos? ¿Qué tal cuando el trabajo que antes estaba estable de repente ya no está?

¿Qué tal cuando la relación está quebrantada? Cuando los sueños están aparentemente en pausa. Cuando estamos haciendo las cosas correctas, pero experimentando los resultados que no queremos o no esperábamos. Esos son los momentos que prueban nuestra fe. Y si somos honestos, todos hemos experimentado momentos como estos. Yo he descubierto que la mayoría de las personas no tienen problemas con el poder de Dios, sino con el tiempo de Dios. ¿Por qué? Years went by, and suddenly the pharaoh, the king, has strange dreams that are attributing him over and over again. I'm sure Joseph suddenly arrived at the palace, surprised. And the pharaoh says, they tell me that you are a dream interpreter. Joseph says, well, what God allows me to understand, well, I share it. I don't know if God has an interpretation. The pharaoh tells some dreams he has had. Among them is the dream of some fat cows. And suddenly some skinny cows come out and eat the fat cows. And I don't understand what this is. And Joseph, well, God gives Joseph the interpretation. And he says to the pharaoh, well, pharaoh, God is having mercy on you because he is giving you in advance what is going to happen. The seven fat cows represent seven years of abundance, seven years where there will be so much food, so much abundance that they will have to store. Because the seven skinny cows represent seven years of famine and scarcity throughout the land that will follow those seven years.

So God is telling you, you have to store and have strategy during these seven years of abundance to store and have provision for those seven years of famine. The pharaoh was so satisfied with Joseph's interpretation that he says, pharaoh, who is more precise to direct all these matters and be in charge of all this? It is Joseph himself. God has given him favor, he has given him understanding. There he gives him a wife. Look, you marry him. He gives him a family from one day to the next. Joseph goes from being the slave, prisoner in prison, to being the first minister of all of Egypt, to being the second in command after the pharaoh in all of Egypt. Understanding that God used him to save and preserve many lives, including his own family, which we will talk about later. It is tremendous that Joseph went from the well to Potiphar, to prison, to the palace. Now, Joseph's story teaches us many things. He is not a hero of faith because he never suffered or because he never saw adversity or because his life was easy. No, on the contrary. He is a hero of faith because he remained faithful and rooted even when everything was against him in the midst of adversity. I want to give you four keys to stay rooted through the proofs. Four keys to stay rooted through the proofs. Are you ready with me? Are you ready? Number one, trust in the presence of God. Are you ready with me?

Trust in the presence of God. This is one of the most important truths in Joseph's story. It is not what happened to him, but who was with him with everything that happened to him. If we are honest, we read Joseph's story and it seems that God is not blessing him. Joseph receives a dream of God. Then he is betrayed, sold as a slave, separated from his family, taken to a foreign land, forced into slavery. If we were writing this story, we would conclude that God abandoned him. However, Scripture tells us the opposite. Look at what Genesis 39, verse 2 says. Genesis 39, verse 2 says, The Lord was with Joseph. Pause. What does it say? The Lord was with Joseph. That is why he was successful in everything while he served in the house of his Egyptian master. Potiphar noticed this and realized that the Lord was with Joseph. Again, he was with Joseph. And he was successful in everything he did. Incredible. He was successful in everything he did. It is interesting. What was Joseph at this time? A slave. And what does the Bible say? God was with him. Sometimes, wrongly, we assume that the presence of God

is measured by our circumstances. And we think, wrongly, if God is with me, then everything should be easy. If God is with me, I should not have any obstacles in life. If God is with me, I should not have problems. That is what the Bible says. mundo a veces piensa. Es más, por eso hay gente que dice, ¿cómo puede existir Dios? La pregunta no es, ¿cuán rápido puede Dios cambiar esto? La pregunta es, ¿confiaré en Dios en medio de esta prueba? Porque las personas arraigadas no se anclan a las circunstancias, se anclan a Dios. Segunda clave, permanece fiel en la adversidad. Dilo conmigo, permanece fiel en la adversidad. Una de las lecciones grandes de la vida de José es que él permaneció fiel aun cuando parecía que todo lo que le sucedía era injusto. Piensa en todas las oportunidades que José tuvo para darse por vencido, para tirar la toalla. Sus hermanos le traicionan, termina como un esclavo en Egipto, es falsamente acusado, es olvidado en la prisión. Podemos permanecer fiel cuando no nos dan la promoción. Podemos permanecer arraigados y fieles cuando enfrentamos injusticias y adversidades. Podemos permanecer fieles cuando nuestras oraciones no están siendo contestadas inmediatamente. Muchas personas quieren disfrutar el palacio, pero no están dispuestos a perdurar la prisión. Muchos quieren recibir la promesa, pero no están dispuestos a atravesar el proceso que conlleva a la promesa. Y muchas veces Dios nos desarrolla en medio del proceso antes de soltarnos a la promesa. Entonces, para reiterar un poquito esto en la prisión, Génesis 39, versículo 21. Génesis 39, versículo 21 dice, pero el Señor estaba con José. ¿El Señor qué? Otra vez estaba con José en la cárcel y mostró su fiel amor. El Señor hizo que José fuera el preferido del encargado de la cárcel. Y dice, poco después, el director puso a José a cargo de los demás presos y de todo lo que ocurría en la cárcel. El encargado no tenía de qué preocuparse porque José se ocupaba de todo. El Señor estaba con él y lo prosperaba en todo lo que hacía. Nota que vemos la fidelidad de José a pesar de que era la cárcel. Muchas cosas cambiaron, pero la fidelidad de Dios nunca cambió. Muchas cosas cambiaron, pero José permaneció arraigado. ¿Se han dado cuenta ustedes que muchas veces nos encantan los milagros microondas? But spiritual maturity, walking with God through time, leads us to understand that the value, growth, and strength come from the development of character, not from accelerating our comfort. I know that it took many years to learn what God wanted me to learn. Some of you today could say, Pastor, today I find myself in a season of well, or a season of prison, or a season of slave in the house of Potiphar, and all of a sudden you say, I don't want it, I don't understand it, but let me tell you, God is working in you. Don't let your trial define your future, and don't let bitterness replace your faith. Remain faithful. Keep praying. Stay firm. Stay rooted. Keep obeying. Keep reaching. Keep seeking. Because God has not finished writing your story. Amen? We are called to remain faithful in the well, fruitful in prison, while God prepares us for the palace. Amen? Number three. Third advice. God was not only preparing a position for Joseph, God was preparing Joseph for the position. Because they are two different things, right? The dream was immediate, but the preparation was gradual. And many times in our lives, God can give us a promise, a vision for the future, but it does not mean that it will be tomorrow, it means that there is a process. Ask me why. Ask me why. Because he loves us too much, he loves us too much to prematurely put us in a position that we are not ready. I give you the example. It is the same reason why you do not give your 10-year-old son the keys to your truck. It is not because you do not want your son to someday be able to have the responsibility to manage a car, it is because you know that right now, at the age of 10, your son needs more process, more preparation, here is the word, more maturity, to be able to manage that responsibility. Is someone with me? It is the same reason why you do not give your 10-year-old son $50,000 in his hands. It would be a very large Nintendo expenses.

Why? Because it is not that you do not want that someday you can bless your son with something like that or that he can have that responsibility, it is that you understand that at the age of 10, it is not the moment, there is more process, development and maturity that has to happen for your son to be able to manage. But you have to trust. God knows. Suddenly, you and I are waiting for something, but God, what happened to you? And it is that He is waiting. I remember in the times when we prayed, I prayed, I prayed, before being a pastor with my parents, I prayed, Lord, send the harvest, Lord, send more sheep for our church, we want to reach more people. And once, at the beginning, when I first took the church, I prayed for multiplication, I felt that the Holy Spirit answered me, I felt that He whispered to me, Virgilio, I love you, and because I love you, I will not answer that prayer. And what I understood was this, Virgilio, if I answer your prayer right now and send 300 new sheep today to our church, they do not have the structure to sustain that growth, and I will not send them sheep to neglect. And it was then that I started to pray strategically with my wife and the team to discover strategies and systems to be able to have an infrastructure to raise leaders, raise people who help us to take care of sheep, to be able to sustain the growth that we were praying for. And we will see that after several years we start to see the fruit. But sometimes we want microwave miracles. You have to trust. Look at this verse, Isaiah 40, verse 31, talking about trusting in the Lord, it says, On the other hand, those who trust in the Lord will find new strength, I say new strength, they will fly high as with eagle wings, they will run and they will not get tired, they will walk and they will not pass out. I want to give you an important statement about waiting. Waiting is not wasted time when God is involved.

Waiting develops trust, waiting develops patience, waiting develops dependence, develops perseverance. And many times in that season of waiting is when we see growth. I thank God. For years I prayed, Lord, property, a building, but we were not ready. We had to be good elders with what we had at the time, because 10 years ago we could not have bought or dealt with this property that we have today. We now have nine acres, family, six buildings, a great vision. But do you know what we have next to that? We have a new mortgage. And we could not, although it was a microwave miracle that we wanted 7 or 8 years ago, we could not sustain it. The process is the time of God. And someone needs to listen to something today because you are waiting for something tomorrow, but I am saying, hey, you are in the process, we are in the process. It is like someone from the old guard remembers the photographs, revealing them in the dark rooms, that would be to reveal the photographs in the dark, that suddenly the image was, but it was invisible and had a process in darkness and in time, because many times God is working in our lives in the middle of a dark time where we want immediate results, but it requires time, it requires process. God never arrives late. Last point, number 4. Believe that God has a purpose through your pain. That is a difficult amen, that is a difficult amen. Pastor Kiko gave me one, but it's okay, I understand it. But we have to get to the point where we want to amend this, why? Because we understand the value. We have to believe that God has a purpose through our pain. When we get to the climax of Joseph's story, we get to a very powerful point in the scriptures, and at this point, Joseph's life has dramatically changed.

He went from being a slave to being a governor. He went from being a prisoner to being the leader, prime minister of all of Egypt. The forgotten dreamer is the second in command in all of Egypt. The years of abundance have passed and the years of scarcity have arrived. Imagine this. The years of scarcity have begun. Egypt is the only place that has abundance of food. Why? Because of the sustenance, because of the wisdom that God gave to Joseph. All the peoples and all the nations are coming to Egypt, coming to the door, begging, saying, Please help us, in line, in line, looking for provisions and food. And suddenly, Joseph looks up, towards the entrance, and sees eleven men who look like his eleven brothers, just a little older. But when he hears them, he says, they are the same old men. Imagine this. Your eleven older brothers are in line. They have come a long way for food, because there is no food. There is famine. To save your people, to save your people. Can you imagine? This is a perfect setting for revenge, isn't it? What would we have done, you and I? Well, you are saints, pure. But many out there, I think, would have said to the soldiers, Look, take these eleven and put them in a cave for two days. And don't give them food. And suddenly, the story says that Joseph, he recognized them, but they did not recognize him. And Joseph had an interpreter, although he understood everything they said.

An interpreter saying, Who are you? Where do you come from? No, we are from our father, Jacob. We are eleven brothers. One is no longer with us. But the youngest is at home with his dad, we are looking for food to save our family. Do you know what did Jose see when they arrived? He saw 11 showing up, coming for mercy. Do you remember the dream? And Jose, at that moment, I think it's interesting because Jose puts them to sweat a little bit, and says, come here, I don't believe that story, I'm not going to believe that story until they bring the youngest. He puts them to sweat, and they are worried. Eventually, some interesting things happen. Eventually, he has them privately at 11. He takes off his real things, and he reveals himself, he exposes himself. Brother, it's me, Jose. Can you imagine? It's me. And that has a double effect, because on the one hand it's, Jose is alive! And on the other hand, he's going to want to kill us. And that's where we learn one more lesson from Jose. Because God gives him a perspective that sometimes is hard for us. Genesis 50, verse 20. Jose says, brothers, you set out to do me wrong. But God, say with me, but God. But God arranged everything for me. How do you say, how does someone say, God arranged everything for me? He put me in this position so that I could save the lives of many people. Notice what Jose doesn't say. Jose doesn't say, everything that happened to me was good. Because betrayal is not good. Slavery is not good. False accusations are not good. Prison is not good. And pain is not good.

Now, Jose is not minimizing the reality of suffering. But Jose is magnifying the sovereignty of God. Jose is saying, what you did for bad, God could redeem for good. And this is one of the most important truths that we can learn from Jose's life. Here it is, I give it to you. God does not waste pain. Now, he does not cause all that is pain for us. But he can redeem all that is pain for us. He can take our pain and turn it into purpose. He can take our despair and turn it into hope. He can turn our suffering and turn it into strength. Now, Jose could only see this and understand it because he could look back. Tell me, look back. And he could look back to see the faithfulness of God. While he was in the well, when Jose was in the well, he did not see it. When Jose was in the house of Potiphar, falsely accused, he could not see everything that God was doing. His vision was limited. When he was in the well, in the well, in the well. But eventually, he recognized what you and I, as Christians, can recognize. What Romans 8.28 says. And it is the following. Jose learned this lesson. What does it say? It does not say that all things are good. It does not say that God makes all things cooperate for good. And this is tremendous. This is tremendous. Maybe the test is not good. Maybe the loss is not good. The disappointment is not good.

But God is always good. And he has the ability to work in the darkest moments of our lives. Have you ever looked at a tapestry on the reverse side? Let me show you the back side. The back side of a tapestry. Or in English we would say a tapestry. This is the back side of a tapestry. When you see the back side of a tapestry, what we see is knots and loose threads. I show you this and it's not a big deal. Why? Because it's the back side of the tapestry. It's the back side of the tapestry. We see something, but we don't know what we see. Are you with me? But the interesting thing is that when we have the right perspective, look at the front side of the tapestry. This is the front side of the tapestry. The front side of the tapestry is the side that we have to see. But many times we are trapped in life just looking at one side. Let's look at the comparison. We are in the well and we don't see. We are in the house of Potiphar, a slave, and we don't see. We are in prison and we don't see. No es hasta luego en la vida, cuando podemos considerar todo lo que ha pasado y procesar todo lo que hemos experimentado y darnos cuenta, mira lo que Dios estaba obrando. Pero depende de mi perspectiva, depende del ángulo. Entender que no se llega a esto sin eso. El problema es que tú y yo queremos esto, pero no queremos esto. Pero es imposible llegar a esto sin el proceso, sin la preparación. Un día descubriremos que el Señor ha estado entretejiendo algo muy hermoso a través de nuestras vidas que quizás no lo hemos podido ver todavía.

Pero si confiamos, si esperamos, podemos ser como José, que eventualmente José pudo ver el lado correcto. Por eso él pudo decir, lo que ustedes quisieron para mal, Dios lo tornó para bien. Último punto, Dios puede transformar tu prueba más grande en parte de tu propósito más grande. Y por eso yo no sé qué pruebas estás atravesando, yo no sé qué pozo estás experimentando, yo no sé qué prisión estás enfrentando, quizás Dios está preparándote. Él siempre está contigo, no lo dudes. La vida de José nos recuerda que Dios sigue escribiendo nuestra historia, Él no ha terminado. ¿Qué estás enfrentando ahora? ¿Qué desafío? ¿Qué prueba? ¿Qué temporada? Quizás algo se siente injusto, pues yo te reto, en vez de preguntarle a Dios, ¿Por qué Dios me está pasando esto? Empieza a preguntar, Señor, ¿Qué me quieres enseñar a través de esto? ¿Cómo esto me prepara para lo que tú tienes más adelante para mí? Y en vez de medir la fidelidad de Dios por medio de mis circunstancias, puedo medir la fidelidad de Dios por medio de su presencia en mis circunstancias. Esto es lo que hizo José, permaneció arraigado, permaneció firme y fiel. Así que no te des por vencido, no eches para atrás, mantén tus ojos en Jesucristo, mantente arraigado y firme en Él. Idea principal de hoy, donde arrancamos, cerramos. Dios suele hacer su obra más profunda en nosotros mientras atravesamos nuestras pruebas más oscuras. Oremos, Señor, gracias, gracias por la historia de José, que es un ejemplo poderoso para todos nosotros hoy. Gracias por recordarnos que Tú eres fiel en toda temporada de vida. Gracias Señor por demostrarnos una vez más que Tú estás con nosotros en medio de toda situación, circunstancia y adversidad.

Algunos hoy están esperándote, Señor. Algunos están esperando que Tú contestes sus oraciones. Algunos estamos eligiendo confiar en Ti en toda situación. Señor, ayúdanos a permanecer arraigados en Tu presencia aun cuando la vida se pone difícil. Ayúdanos a permanecer fieles cuando las circunstancias aparentan ser injustas. Y ayúdanos a confiar en Tu tiempo aun cuando nos parece muy largo el tiempo. Ayúdanos a creer que Tú estás obrando para que todo obre para el bien de los que te amamos. Fortalece los corazones débiles, trae esperanza a los desesperanzados, renueva nuestras mentes y corazones, danos perseverancia, Señor, para seguir adelantando y progresando con fe hacia los propósitos y las metas que Tú tienes para nuestras vidas. Tocamos nuestras vidas, nuestras familias y nuestro futuro en Tus manos, en el nombre precioso de Jesús. Amén.
