Freedom in Christ: How to Get Free and Stay Free
As part of the JAILED series, five speakers share one freedom journey: recognizing what binds us, leaving it behind, renewing our minds, remaining in Christ, and walking in purpose.
- RECOGNIZE — Identify what has you bound.Freedom begins with truth. You cannot heal what you hide or confront what you excuse. The Holy Spirit reveals bondage to lead you into freedom.John 8:32
- RENOUNCE — Decide you’re leaving it.Repentance is more than feeling sorry—it is changing direction. Freedom requires leaving behind what keeps you bound and deciding, “I’m not going back.”John 8:36
- RENEW — Change the thinking that kept you there. You can leave the prison and still think like a prisoner. A free life requires replacing old lies, labels, and thought patterns with God’s truth.Romans 12:2
- REMAIN — Guard the freedom Christ has given you.Getting free can happen in a moment; living free is a lifestyle. Stay rooted in Christ through prayer, Scripture, worship, community, and accountability. Don’t reopen doors God helped you close.Galatians 5:1
- WALK FREE — Use your freedom to fulfill God’s purpose.Freedom is more than the absence of chains. Christ frees you to serve others, walk in the Spirit, and become who God intended you to be.Galatians 5:13
Jesus didn’t just open the prison door so you could stand outside the cell. He set you free so you could walk into purpose.
I want to thank you for joining our broadcast on the Pando App. We love you and we're praying for you. How's everybody doing today? It's good to see everybody in the house of the Lord. What an incredible opportunity today to receive what God has for us. So I pray that our hearts are open, our ears are open and our eyes are open to receive what God would have for each one of us today. So as we get ready to start, I just want to say since I've been at Purpose House, I am always amazed at how many talented, anointed, gifted people we have in this house. Say, "Man," and today we have some of the most talented and anointed people in the Kingdom of God coming to speak to us today. We have five people, and so just excited to hear what God has laid on their hearts to share with us today, man. So without further ado, I want to introduce you to our first speaker today, Mr. Seth Bumpus. Can we give him? Good morning. Can you hear me? All right. I've got a short amount of time, so we're going to get right into it, okay? Hey, we've talked today. We've praised the Lord and declared how He is worthy. Is God not worthy today? God is worthy of all the praise, the honor, and the glory. And today, we're going to talk about freedom. How many of you all have experienced freedom in Jesus Christ? Oh, man, we're going to dive right into this. Listen, some of us have been jailed. Some of us before Christ, and even some of us in Christ, have been jailed by the lies and the schemes of the enemy. I'm here to tell you, there is freedom in Jesus Christ.
Healing is in the house today for you and for me. Amen? All right. Listen, there are forces and patterns that lead people into bondage. So we want to jump right into this today, okay? So we're going to be shifting from what binds us to how do we get free and stay free, which is a whole big topic, okay? So here's the first thing I want to say. You can't get free from what you do not confront. We'll say that one more time. You cannot get free, be free, stay free from that which will, you will not confront. In John 8, 32, in the New King James Version, it says this, "And you shall know the truth and the truth shall what set you free." How many of you guys know that Jesus Christ declared this statement? I am the way, the truth, and the life. No man can come into the Father except through Jesus, through Him. He is truth. How many of you guys know that the Holy Spirit has come and dwelt inside of every single one of us who have proclaimed Jesus, and now the Holy Spirit leads us and guides us into all. So can we have truth in our lives? Can we receive truth? Come on now, that's good stuff. Freedom begins with truth. Before God can bring us out, we must recognize. I don't like doing this but I'm going to have you do it. Can you say recognize? Say one more time. We must recognize what has us bound. Wounds, lies, wounds, habits, relationships, fear, bitterness, and pride.
Let's jump into Psalm 139 here. King David has an amazing prayer right here. Many of you have read this but let's just dive into this. Here's what David says, very open, vulnerable, honest prayer. He said, "Search me, O God, and what know my heart and invitation to the Lord." Then he says, "This, try me and know my thoughts and see if there be any grievous way in me and lead me in your way, everlasting." David is asking right here for exposure, say exposure. Exposure can be a nasty word for some of us but in the kingdom of God, when the light comes who is the light of the world, Jesus, it exposes what? Darkness in you and in me. So we want exposure in the kingdom of God, God, he's saying, "God, come and search me. Search my heart, those deep caverns." And not only that, he said, "I want you to search my thoughts. Try my thoughts." You know what that word "try" there means? It's like a testing of medals. Now, I went to school for welding and I'm going to run out my time if I don't stop. But there is a purification that can happen in medals. You guys have heard so many amazing messages on silver and gold and how the heat brings out that dress and you pull out the impurities. The fire of the Holy Spirit is more than just shouting and having a good time. It actually puts us on the altar where we become more like Him. We become set apart through the fire of God. But that comes to exposure. You gotta expose yourself to the flames and the fire of God, amen? And I want more of that, don't you?
I'm pacing through here, let's go. So he's asking a real, vulnerable and dangerous prayer. He is confronting anything in Him that is not of God, okay? So exposure, there's a couple definitions, but the one I want to focus on, the condition of being subject to some effect or influence. Here's some questions. What are you allowing to influence you and your family? Are you yielding to the spirit, to the fire, to the purifying work of the Holy Spirit? And are you confronting the lies of the enemy in your life? So not only is he asking for these things that are not in line with the ways of God to be exposed, he is asking God to test his thoughts, just like we talked about, which comes down to this, combating strongholds. And I can't wait to hear what we have to say about that, but strongholds need to be broke because they're mindsets, the enemy can be gone, but the structure's still there. God, we need to take down those strongholds, brick by brick, amen, amen. Number five here in 2 Corinthians 13, 5, excuse me, it says examine yourselves to see whether you are in the faith. This is a very sobering scripture. Examine yourselves to see whether you are in the faith. And he says, test yourselves. Or do you not realize this about yourselves that Jesus Christ is in you? One of the most amazing profound scriptures is that when Paul says it's Christ in you, the hope of glory,
is that that is the mystery of the ages, is that Christ is actually living in you and me through the person of the Holy Spirit, through the Godhead of the Holy Spirit. And through that we can have victory if we remain in him, amen? So here we are being asked to examine ourselves to see if we're really in the faith and living in the light. Here, the word examine, I won't give you the Greek word here, I'll butcher it, but it means to inspect carefully with a view to discover the truth or the real state of a thing. Most of us do not really want to hear the truth. How hard is it for you to really tell the truth to someone? Come on now, let's be honest, we're all human. It's very hard. Not for some of us, there are some who are very blunt. Amen? Yeah, that's right, Gigi, she tells us how it is. But for a lot of us, we run from the truth, but here's the deal. You can't get free when you don't confront the enemy and you can't walk in freedom without the truth of Jesus Christ in your life. So it's viewing the real state. Okay, we got to get down to bare bones, I'm examining myself, I'm looking what's going on here. And it's just like if you were to look at a ship, if you were a crewmate, you're looking at a ship, can this ship handle the seas, right? Is it sea worthy or a home? If you're looking at a home, will this home withstand? Is it going to be able to withstand storms and does it need repairs?
That's the kind of view that we bring ourselves into. And sometimes we need to take account for that. Not before Christ, in Christ. There are times where healing comes in layers. I wish I could go longer than what I get. Healing will come immediately through the power of God. And then there are times where the Holy Spirit's going to walk you through a process. I'm getting off that. But here's the thing. We don't want to deny the Holy Spirit when He is revealing and helping you recognize areas in your life that need healed. Surrendered, repaired, and restored. They are revealed in the light. And this is my last scripture. In Ephesians 5, 13, it says, "But when anything is exposed by the light, it becomes visible." Right? Too many times we try to hide and cover up what the Lord wants us to reveal. He wants to reveal and heal. And the enemy wants to keep you and me in darkness and in hiding. When we are in darkness, we cannot fully see. But when the light comes, you can identify those areas where the enemy has been wreaking havoc. And true healing can come. Say healing will come. Healing will come when the light comes in. And Jesus Christ is the light of the world. The Lord does not reveal these areas. Listen to this. This can be hurtful for some of us.
Let's get real. Some of us have some pretty deep trauma. We didn't have the best upbringing. We got things that we've seen in our family that were normalized, which were demonic, which were not right, which were chaotic. And we're trying to come out of this. But I'm here to tell you, the Lord does not reveal that to you to shame you. He reveals it to you because He wants to heal you. And the Holy Spirit is a gentleman. And He will walk you through healing. I'm telling you, when He walks you through healing, whether it's immediate or a process, it's worth the grind. Amen? Amen. All right. I'm doing good. Praise God. When you are physically hurt and sick, there are times when you need a doctor. There are other times when you need a doctor. In the operating room, you are exposed like never before, but that's where some major healing can take place. I'm here to tell you, I had my appendix taken out before. I was in a lot of pain. I needed some help. We prayed. I came against the enemy. I needed to have surgery.
You know what? I felt very exposed. But when I got done with the surgery, after that healing process, guess what? I was a new man. Sometimes spiritually, we need to go to the OR room and let the Lord do what only He can do. So remember, you cannot heal what you hide. You cannot confront what you excuse or escape what you refuse to identify. The Holy Spirit reveals bondage not to condemn us, but to lead us into freedom. Amen. Amen, amen. (audience applauds) - Awesome, praise God. Thank you, Seth. We appreciate Seth and Pastor Lindsey and what they mean to the body and the word that they pour into our children. Can you just honor them today? That is just precious. (audience applauds) Praise God. And we are thankful for the ministry of Holy Spirit because it is Holy Spirit in John 14, 26. He's the one that comes to, in the Greek, he comes to teach us. And then over in John 16, verse 13, he guides us into the Greek really means full truth.
We can receive God's full truth. Amen, that's wonderful. Holy Spirit is the truth giver. Amen. He is the one who comes and reveals unholy and unhealthy flesh patterns, lies we've believed of the enemies, so the soul wounds that we like to hold on to. He is the one who comes. He wants us free. It was for freedom in Galatians 5-1 that Jesus came to set us free. The Holy Spirit wants you free. He wants me living in freedom. And he comes to show us what we are trying to hide and what we do not want to face. And anything hidden deep within you has power over you. Anything hidden deep within you and me that we will not face or confront as Pastor Seth was explaining, has power over us. Jesus wants that power because you know what his power looks like? It's called freedom. Amen, nothing tastes as good. There's no sin, there's no lie, there's no habit that tastes as good as freedom feels. (congregation applauding) And in Galatians 5-16, here's the trick. We are to live and walk habitually. When we become born again and we are a believer
and we are a true lover of Jesus Christ, we are to walk and live habitually. It's our habit every day in the Holy Spirit, teaching us and guiding us. But you know what? It requires a response from us. Holy Spirit comes, what is our response? And it's a word that we do not hear often. It's called renounce. And you know what? I'm gonna have you do what Seth did. I want you to say that word renounce. And I actually want you to say, I renounce. Well, what is it that we are renouncing? Renouncing in the Greek means to disown. It means to lay something aside, withdraw from it, strip it off. In Acts 3, 19, we are told to repent, which is a type of renounce, turn around, change your mind, change our purpose, and do what? Return to God. Holy Spirit is wanting a response from us. Renounce means we formally and decisively reject the enemy's lies, the deception of the world, anything in the dark spiritual realm that we have allowed into our soul realm, to renounce means we disown it, we abandon it, we reject any patterns of ungodliness trying to come back into our flesh.
It means we break totally from the world's ways and we turn back to God. Renouncing, saying out of our mouth, I renounce you, formal, deliberate moment. As when you were born again, you just didn't do it. You stopped, you prayed about this, you fell Holy Spirit there guiding you, and you said, "Right then, I'm giving my life to Jesus." That's what it means to renounce a deliberate, active choice. It's a response to allow God to break those bondages of your past way of living, false teachings, soul wounds, or spiritual darkness. Action is required, and it's expressed as a spoken word out of your mouth, a declaration, "I renounce the enemy, Lord God, I repent, and I turn back to you." I'm turning away. I renounce. Say, "I renounce." I'm turning away. I'm deciding right now, influences of the world, the enemy, my flesh, emotional hurts or past disobedience, I renounce them. Renouncing is declaring out of our mouth and meaning it. It's not just confess this, confess that. It's professing it and declaring it to the air. So every being can hear it, including my born-again spirit, because my born-again spirit has ears and is listening, declaring, agreeing, declaring, and renouncing, stripping off all of those old patterns in Ephesians, chapter 4, verses 22 through 24. Listen to some of the language. We are told to strip ourselves of our former nature, to put it off any previous manner of life. And we are told to put on our new nature. In Hebrews, chapter 12, verse 1, listen to the language. We are to strip off, throw aside. Who does this? We do it. It's a choice. It's an action and a response to Holy Spirit. It's a renouncing of those ways. To strip it off, throw it aside. Every encumbrance, every weight that so cleverly cleans to us. And we are to anything that entangles us. And what are we to do? We are to run with patience, the course that God has set before us, looking to Jesus. Because you know what? He started this in us. He's going to finish it. So renouncing is really submitting. And you know what? We can do it because Jesus did it. He was our example. Renouncing is really that moment you decide that you are submitting to someone else's authority. God's authority. God's will. God's way. And God's truth. There's only one truth. And that's God's. In James 4, 7. We love this verse. We love the last part of it. So be subject to God. Resist the devil. And he will flee from you. That word subject is submission. It's a military. This entire verse has military imagery in the Greek. It means
it's a military term. Submit. You willingly rank yourself under someone else's authority. You rank yourself underneath someone else's authority. So we are yielding to God's authority. The word resist is a picture of the military standing against something. It's a soldier holding a firm battle line. And he refuses to yield ground. When we renounce, we are getting rid of how the enemy has gained place within us. And we have drawn a line. And we're saying, I renounce you. Patterns, habits, wounds. I renounce that. And I'm standing firm yielding to God. Devil is the obelos for Greek. It doesn't just mean accuser. It means false accuser. We are standing free, and the enemy coming to accuse us, he's a liar. He is a false accuser, and the beautiful thing I love about this verse says he will flee from the Greek, that language is he flees from the believer in fear. Oh my goodness, I don't have to receive fear, I don't have to walk in it. He's the one fleeing from you, believer, me, believer in fear. So as Pastor Bryn comes, the Holy Spirit is wanting a response. He's wanting a response of announcing what does not be long in us to receive God's truth. So what is our response to Holy Spirit? We yield ourselves to Him willingly, deciding we are leaving prison, and we are saying it, and we are doing it. So we've talked about recognizing and renouncing things that have held us in bondage. And the next part is necessary as well, if we are going to get free and stay free, right? So the next part is renew. So can everybody say renew? All right. So just because we renounce something, it does not mean that we still don't believe that lie. So we can renounce things but still believe the lies. And we can walk away from things but still allow those things to have authority in us mentally, right? So that's why we got to renew our minds, just as Romans 12.2 says, "And do not be conformed to this world but be transformed by the renewing of your mind that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God." So the renewing of your mind is getting what you were delivered of out of your thinking. In other words, don't let the world shape your thinking, don't let your past determine who you are or what your future is going to be. It's not pretending that the past didn't happen, it's refusing to allow your past to have the final word, to have the final say. And renewing is the process of bringing those old beliefs, lies, thought patterns into the light of God's word and learning to believe what he says instead of lies. And this happens when we stop allowing feelings, emotions, lies and past experiences to have authority rather than the truth.
And so what this is, is this is the truth of God becoming louder than any lie that we have ever been told, that we have ever heard, that has ever been spoken over us. And in that renewing your mind is knowing, understanding and believing what has happened to us spiritually and learning to think in agreement with the truth of what God has done in you. And it's not earning your freedom through perfect behavior, but it's learning to stop thinking and doing the things like the person that we were and becoming and living like the person that God has called us to be. So we can leave addictions, bad relationships, sinful habits, shame, bitterness or any other negative pattern of behavior, but if we keep believing the same lies that kept us bound, then we'll keep fighting the same battles. So you might have left bondage, but did the bondage leave your thinking? So did the bondage actually leave your thinking? Because the enemy doesn't have to put us back in prison if he can convince us that we're still in prison, even though Christ is set as free. So you can be free and still think like a prisoner, forgiven and still under condemnation. You can be in new creation and still struggle with old patterns of thinking, which is why we must renew our minds. So the renewing of our mind is pulling down these strongholds as 2 Corinthians 10 instructs us. For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but they're mighty in God for pulling down strongholds. So a stronghold, it's a fortified walled fortress, or it's something that someone relies on. Or a false argument, wrong thought pattern, wrong mindset, wrong belief in which someone seeks shelter to escape to. That's a stronghold. And these ingrained thought patterns try to exalt themselves against Christ. And these could be ingrained from old voices, old labels that were put on us, old thought patterns, past trauma. And if these are not pulled down they will still continuously try to build yesterday. So just like Christ didn't set us free, so we could spend the rest of our lives in still living and thinking in the past bondage, right? He didn't set us free to do that. He set us free so that he could get the bondage delivered out of us mentally, so he could get the bondage out of us completely so that we can live out every purpose and every calling that he has over our lives. Amen? (congregation applauding) And in that, just because the Israelites, right? Just like the Israelites. Just because God delivered them out of Egypt, right?
It does not mean that they did not think, believe, or act like Egypt. But he delivered them out of Egypt not to go into the wilderness, necessarily. The wilderness was not their fulfillment of freedom. The promised land was, but the wilderness was necessary because it revealed how ingrained in them, Egypt was. And it revealed in them how the need that they needed their mind renewed to enter into the promised land, right? And that's the exact same thing that Jesus Christ has done for us, right? He's set us free. He's delivered us of that bondage. But then right there, right? He's saying, you need to renew your mind and I'm trying to show you how much Egypt is still in you and it is holding you back today. (congregation applauding) And the point of the wilderness was to reveal all that. And he's done the same for us, to reveal that need. 'Cause physically they were out of Egypt, but Egypt was not out of them yet. 'Cause they struggled to trust God and was start to look back at Egypt when tough times or pressure came. And how many times have we done the same thing? How many times have we done that? It's easier to send be a critic to them, but because the familiar can feel safer than the freedom that we've not learned to walk in yet.
And we forget the pain and remember the pleasure. We forget how it kept us bound and remember the momentary escape it provided. And a renewed mind does not mean that we will never have temptation. It means that the temptation does not have the power and the authority over us anymore. (congregation applauding) Because God wants to teach us how to respond differently, how to love differently, how to think differently and how to live differently, right? He doesn't want us to live the same way as when we were impented, right, and we turned to him. He doesn't want us to live that same way. There's a whole different way of life that he has for us 'cause he wants to transform us and not just remove things from us, right? Because freedom is not just the absence of something but it's the ability to live free through Christ and to live according to his word and his calling and his purposes, right? So listen, he delivered me a drugs and alcohol but what life would I live if I woke up every day and I tried not to drink and do drugs? Is that freedom? Not at all. If my mind was so fixated on, "Hey, Brian, don't do drugs today and don't drink." Oh my goodness, oh, don't do it. You're gonna, no, that's not freedom.
But see when I wake up and my mind, my heart, my eyes are fixed on the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords. There is no room in me for the drugs and the alcohol because I am so consumed with heaven that there is no place, right? And that's why we need to be transformed by the renewing of our mind so that we can understand God's good pleasing perfect will and that we can take every thought captive to the obedience of Christ, right? And transformed there means to be transformed from being with and renewing is symbolizing it's also spoke of a renovation, okay? So the only way that we are transformed by the renewing of our mind is to the power of Holy Spirit and being with Christ. There is not any possible way that we can be transformed by the renewing of our mind if we are never with Christ because we have to know Christ to be able to take thoughts captive to the obedience of Christ. And that's through prayer, right? Studying his word, spending time with him. And they're both a present and continuous, a present and continuous. And it's a daily ongoing progressive process, not a one-time event. And I truly believe that this is where renewing our mind has to start in how we see salvation and how we see deliverance.
Because if we see them as these one-time events then what we do is we see them as the end. But really they're the start to something greater. And see if we see deliverance as the end, you come up here today to this altar and you get something cast out of you. And you see that as the end and you never renew your mind because that stronghold that lie has never been dealt with because you have not renewed your mind. You have not been transformed into the image of Christ. And see, if we see salvation as the end too and not the beginning to start of something greater, then what happens is we don't think that we need to be transformed by the renewing of our mind. So therefore we push all this stuff off, but renovation actually is not done until glorification. The renovation of this temple is not done until Christ's second coming. So I don't know where, how long ago you've been born again, but there's always more glorification or more transformation, sorry, more transformation to be ahead. Because here's what happens. When you're born again, it gives you a legal right to recognize and renounce. And then through the power of the Holy Spirit, it allows you to start renewing. It starts the process of renewing. It starts the process of renovation, right?
Which leads to transformation. And through that, right, that we sometimes think that there's three options there in Romans 12, 2, that there's conformed to the world, transformed by the renewing of our mind in a middle one. In that middle one, I would call stagnation. And I feel that that's what God's asking us today. Because stagnation leads to conformation, which is being conformed to the world. And I feel like that's what God's asking us today, because the middle is not a position to stay, but a choice to be had. Are you gonna be conformed to the world? 'Cause there's a constant pressure from the world. And the ruler of it, are you gonna be transformed by the renewing of your mind? And be transformed into the image of Christ more and more. 'Cause the middle is stagnation, and stagnation leads to conformation. Formation with an O, right? So don't settle for spiritual stagnation. Don't get comfortable. Church, do not get comfortable. 'Cause we're renewing our minds so we can live differently when temptation comes, when pressure comes, when old thoughts try to come back. So refuse to let the world shape what only God should be shaping. But it doesn't stop at renewed. Because it's one thing to get free,
it's another to renew your mind. But then you've gotta make up your mind that you're not going back. And that's where this next step comes in. (audience applauding) (audience cheering) We now have to remain. Freedom has to be maintained. Getting free can happen in a moment, living free is a lifestyle. Jesus doesn't simply call us out of bondage. He calls us to abide by Him. Galatians 5-1, stand, O Lord, stand fast therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made us free. A few months ago, I said, God, give me a new word. I'm ready. What's gonna happen next, God? He said, Lydia, I need to tell your testimony. No, sir. I said, I don't want to say that, it's embarrassing. I don't want to pick you, you know, church folks. Oh my goodness, did you hear what Lydia said? She said, what? Do you know who her parents are? Oh my goodness, I'm gonna write an email. Not on me. Not on me. And I said, Lord, I'm not doing that. He said, but Lydia, who are you to deny me, my glory? He said, if I am to use you the way you want to be used,
you have to be unashamed of what I brought you out of. Your testimony was never about you. It would, to be ashamed of your testimony means you are not free. And I don't know about you guys. If you guys don't listen to the Lord, I don't sleep. I like my sleep. It's a long weekend. I'm gonna get a whole lot of Z's. So at a young age, I was exposed to pornography. It was a little click on the side. I clicked it. I didn't know what it was, but I liked it. Over time, I was sneaking in corners. I was trying to hide when I saw footsteps coming, but let me tell you some about Helen Ellis. I call it a trinity. She's got good ears. She prays, and she got quick hands. And she caught me, and I'm so grateful, Mama, that you caught me that day. She caught me, we sat down, and we had conversations. Me, Mama, and Daddy, devices were taken. I did the prayer, I repented, I was good. I was good. I said, God, I'm with you now. I'm not going back. because you have to remain in your freedom. When I went off to college, I was very stoic. I'm okay, it was off and on.
It was, I'm not really in it like that. No more, it's okay, God, it's okay. And I said, well, ashamedly and naively enough, I thought, God, you still love me, I'm okay. Nothing's happening all this time, I ain't hurt nobody. In fact, nobody knows about it. It's okay. But God said, when would you let me help you? John 15, four their five says, abide in me and I in you as the branch cannot bear fruit of itself unless it bears, unless it abides in the vine. Neither can you unless you abide in me. I am the vine and you are the branches. He who abides in me and I in him bears much fruit. For without me, you can do nothing. It is foolish and it is prideful to think you can do it alone. Whether it's accountability partner and you have to be at this altar every week. If you have to call somebody every 15 minutes, you better call somebody. If that person says, girl, quick, call me, find another one. But we have to be truthful with ourselves of why we like our sin. It makes me feel powerful. I like when I feel chosen. I like how I feel. First Corinthians 10, 12 through 13 says, therefore let him think he stands, takes heed lest he fall. No temptation has overtaken you except such
as in common to man, but God is faithful who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also take away of escape. But you may, that you may be able to bear it. God will always give you an out if you choose to accept it. As believers, we want to get in a place where we say, Lord, I am so rooted in you, nothing can take me away. No thing can take me away from you. To get to this point, your people and your surroundings much change. We have to say, Lord, I don't wanna flirt with my sin anymore. Lord God, I wanna completely expelled out of me. I don't wanna see how close I can get to sinning without truly sinning. Lord, send me people to replace the ones I think I have lost. Lord, I love them, but they don't love you. And I just think if I love them and pray hard enough, they'll come to you. Lord God, it pays my bills and I like money. Lord God, I will be alone if I leave them. But Lord, sin and a niacin, sin and Barnabas, who was anti-niacin, niacin, means Yahweh be gracious or favored of the Lord. A niacin was the disciple that was sent to restore Paul Saul's physical sight, fill him with the Holy Spirit and baptize him after he encountered Jesus on the road to Damascus. Barnabas, Barnabas, his name means son of encouragement.
Barnabas was a mentor and an individual who was a father figure to Saul. We need both of these individuals. We grace, we need favor. But sometimes some of us seasoned saints talk to God like we don't know who he is. Lord, do you know who she is? I saw her on the six o'clock news. I ain't going to talk to her. Lord God, I'm not gonna go talk to him 'cause I heard last week that he did this and that just doesn't go with me. But God said go, and I mean, and a niacin asked a very valid question. This man can harm me. This man is killing the folks who are just like me. I ain't going over there. But God says go for he is the chosen vessel of mine to bear my name before Gentiles, kings, and children of Israel without Saul we wouldn't be here. Saul had nobody who's surrounding the people around him was a forceful change. Everyone from Saul's past wanted to kill the people that he now rolls with. Saul had to be all in, and so do we. Ephesians 6, 10 through 11 says finally my brethren, be strong in the Lord and the power of his might. Put on the whole armor of God that you may be able to stand against the wows of the devil. It's a quote by C.S. Lewis, but it's really by ST stud
and British missionary, and he says, my prayer is that when I die, all of hell rejoices when I am out of the fight. I don't know about you, but I want to wreak havoc on the enemy. I want to be so in sync and covered in the word and pray it out that the enemy says, you know what, we used to get it through pornography, and we used to get it through lies, and we used to get it through this, but we can't get it through that no more. We can't get it through that no more. I found God, I found my CR group, I found my accountability partner, I found the word. Lord, I want myself to be held up with you about of your truth. Lord, I want to know that my heart is guided by your right, guarded by your righteousness, my feet walk in your peace. And Lord, I have faith in that you are with me. Lord, I thank you for my salvation from the top of my head to the soles of my feet. I want to pick up your sword, your word daily. Lord, so that I might remain free in you. James 4, seven through eight says, therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. Draw near to God and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded.
This is your takeaway. Don't revisit what God has delivered you from. Don't reopen doors, you have already closed. Prayer, scripture, worship, community, and accountability aren't merely religious obligations. They are part of guarding your freedom. Don't keep visiting the prison God has brought you out of. (audience cheering) (audience clapping) Praise the Lord, come on, praise the Lord, somebody. Praise the Lord, praise the Lord. So, the next part of this, it's talking about walking free and staying free. Somebody say, I can't stay, I can't walk. Come on, say, I can't walk if I can't see. Say it again, say, I can't walk if I can't see. See, the thing of walking free, you've got to see freedom. See, you've got to see freedom in order to believe it at times, or you forget about it, or you just say, you know what, that's not for me. But I can stay where I've been as time to walk free. So, if you've got a crazy praise in this church house today, shout to the Lord with a voice of triumph. (audience cheering) Come on, if you're free, shout to the Lord with a voice of triumph real quick. (audience cheering) Yeah, yeah, it's some folk who free in the house
because they sensed it and they saw it. So, you might be sitting next to somebody this morning to be like, look, I'm walking in freedom. I'm gonna take you with me because I'm going somewhere. See, typically, what holds us back from walking free is invisible chains. Somebody say, invisible chains. Things that your prayer partner may not be able to see, but it's invisible. You know, some of the stuff you can hide when you're coming in church, you know what I'm saying? Invisible chains. See, if anyone is in Christ, a new creation has come. The old has gone, but the new is here. That's 2 Corinthians 5, 17. See, the Hebrew children exiting Egypt, leaving behind that harsh slave master. The fears of their children being killed and the daily work of someone else's game. But it's time that we walk free. See, yet when they started traveling toward the promised land, it became clear that part of their mental mindset was still in Egypt. See, invisible chains. Imagine they would say invisible chains. They had something that was in their mind that because they were familiar with slavery. They were familiar with that slave mentality. So when Moses said, let my people go, they were walking in the flesh,
but they were still stuck with invisible chains. Somebody gonna get free this morning. I'm just gonna tell y'all that right now. Somebody gonna get free. See, I would never forget the day that I picked up my first ever pair of prescription glasses. Your brother couldn't see. I was in high school sitting in the back row, squinting and the teacher put the air in, you gotta come up front. But I remember when I picked up my first pair of prescription glasses, as I put the glasses on church, it was like seeing an HD. Like stuff began to be like, oh my God, I got hair on my arms and there's rocks on the ground and the leaves just meant everything was so vibrant because I had my prescription glasses on, right? So as a Latin would say, it was a whole new world, basically for me. it was the lens that I was looking through. The world didn't change. It was just like I picked up these glasses and I said, okay, it was the lens that I began to look through in order to see the change. And that's why I got to tell somebody today that you got to look through that spiritual lens of freedom. Because it may seem like, yeah, yeah, yeah, it may seem like some things are going in your life and it may be true. But if you look at it from a spiritual concept, in that spiritual lens, you begin to see freedom. See, if the children of Israel begin to get with Moses at the time, they will see the spiritual concept when God said, let my people go, it was a literally proclamation. It was firm. It was steady. It wasn't like it may be my people going to go. And I feel like we're dealing with freedom like that. It's freedom for me. The enemy has been messing with folks and you
questioning your freedom. You're questioning why am I going through this? This must not be for me. But when God told Moses, it's very clear, let my people go. It was time to let my people go. So I just want to tell somebody who's dealing with some stuff today. You got to let it go. You got to let it go because it's not for you, but you got to look through a certain different type of lens to see this thing. Are y'all with me this morning? I know I got four minutes. Y'all going to have to bear with me. See, in the same way, we ought to look at our own lives through a different lens, a spiritual lens. Once you apply the spiritual filter of your life, you will quickly realize there's more to life and more to what I'm dealing with. It's time to walk free. Can you imagine being free and not realizing that you're free? That was the children of Israel. They were free, but they didn't realize they were free. That's a crazy condition. I'm telling you, church folk, and we deal with it all the time. They were accustomed to the bondage and the harsh conditions and it just began part of them. Although the proclamation was given to Pharaoh to let my people go and Exodus 1, they felt like they were still stuck. When God told Moses, "Pharaoh, let my people go." It was not a suggestion, and some of y'all are dealing with bondage as a suggestion that I may not be free. It was not a suggestion. It was a request, and it was non-negotiable. Ah, y'all, too quiet on me. It was non-negotiable. It was non-negotiable, and we find ourselves church folk we're dealing with, we're trying to negotiate with it. And no, the Lord said, "By your stripes you are healed, then you are healed." I just believe the word of God too much then, if you don't understand what I'm saying. If you believe it, you've got to receive it. Non-negotiable. It was a divine command backed by authority and the power of the Almighty God. So, God, He wants you free. He wants you to stay free, and He wants you to walk free. Because that's why if you are a joint heir with Christ, somebody say join heir of Christ. You are a new creature. You are a new creation. So, if it belongs, if God said it what, it's going to be so. So, I just ask you to look at it from this standpoint. The proclamation was given to the children of Israel, and it was final. Wasn't negotiable. They were free, but they didn't realize it. Some of you are in here and you're free, but you don't realize you're free because of the symptoms of that old mentality. So, I would ask you this morning, church folk, to look through the freedom with the land, your freedom in the spiritual lens. Get off that of the old habits and the old mindsets and the traumas
that has just got you all entangled and realize that God has literally set me free because I'm a joint heir with Christ. See, the enemy would try to block the proclamation if we let him. He'll allow you. He'll speak in your ear. Who are you? You were born on the wrong side of the tracks. He told me that all the time, church, oh, who are you to preach the gospel and you don't have to, to sense to rub together. You broke his ear. But look, but when God raises you up, he'll shut the enemy's mouth. Yeah, yeah, yeah. He'll shut the enemy's mouth, and he won't only shut the enemy's mouth. He will allow some things to start coming up to surface in your life. Remember that prayer you prayed, AP? You know, to understand what freedom really is. See, freedom is really truly walking free. It's firm, it's steady, and I ask you this morning to walk in freedom. The Bible has a powerful theme of walking free. Y'all with me, y'all good? Okay, okay. Freedom from trauma, from sin, from fear, from bondage, from shame, and the things that have held us back for centuries. The secret sauce, somebody say secret sauce. The secret sauce to freedom is this. It's the presence of God. It's the presence of God. Are you in this presence of none? Are you reading a word? Are you bowing before the Lord? And you know, because a lot of times we give too much credit to the enemy. We serve a big God, do we serve a big God or not church? So this morning, I'm asking you to put God first in your life.
I'm asking you to allow the Holy Ghost, which is a little, I'm a little old school. It allows you to allow the Holy Ghost to do some stirring in your life and begin to cut away some stuff, right, that you have been entangled with. How do we do that? We do that by coming to the altar. Time and time again. The old church mothers will say, bring it to the altar. It's time to come to the altar. Allow the Holy Ghost to move, son. You know, but what happens with us, we're in this microwavable generation. If it didn't happen in two minutes, five minutes past the Michael we give up on God. But allowing the altar to sever some stuff away in your life, how do you stay free? You will keep continually going to the altar time and time again. Not worrying about what you're named. Oh, they back at the altar again? Yes. Hey, I'll be on my face as much as it takes. Yeah. How do we get free? We get on our face before the throne. But the enemy would try his hardest to keep you from the altar. Many of us rely on the Facebook posts
and the YouTube videos instead of the altar. I'm just gonna do some deeper dive in here. I'm over 48 minutes. I'm closing it out. We gonna be all right. We rely on the Facebook posts and the YouTube videos versus running to the altar for freedom. The only way to walk in freedom is to remain at the altar. If you got a problem remaining at the altar, then you got a problem with freedom. How do we stay free? Right here. You don't need nobody necessarily laying hands on you and I know we got some mighty men and women of God, but I'm gonna tell you, sometimes you just need an appointment with the king. You just need a, you know what, Lord? I just need you in this situation. You know, the wonderful counselor, and we have some great counselors. My wife is one of the best, but I'm talking about the wonderful counselor and his name is Jesus. When you make an appointment with a wonderful counselor, I guarantee you that your life will change. The bondage just would be broken. The generational curses would be broken and there will be a restoration in your life. An appointment with a wonderful counselor. So important.
In John 836, let me get y'all some scripture so we can get up out of here. John 836, it reads this way. Therefore, if any, therefore, I'm sorry, therefore, if the son makes you free, you are free. What? It didn't say maybe. It didn't say maybe or sometimes. He said, you are free indeed. If the son sets you free, which is Jesus Christ, the stripes that was slain on his back, if you believe in Jesus Christ and you repent of your sins, the enemy has no right to your life. (congregation applauding) He has no right. He has no right to your mind, to your finances. He has no right to you. Galatians 5-1 says like this. Stand fast, therefore, in the liberty which Christ has made us free and do not be entangled again and again with the yoke of bondage. 2 Corinthians 3, 17 reads this way. Now the Lord is the spirit and where the spirit of the Lord is theirs. Where the spirit of the Lord is theirs. [CHEERING] the enemy has no right, and I'll tell you what, the enemy is silenced when you in the presence of the Lord.
He's silenced. You literally, you can come in the presence of the Lord and he has no right because he can't, he can't enter in in the presence of God. So I would ask you to walk free, remain free. Jesus didn't set us free so we can continue living like we're bound. So we can continue living like we're bound. He set us free so we can walk in liberty. You are free from your chains of your past. You are free from condemnation. You are free from fear. You are free from trauma and anything generational curse that was spoken over in our life. You are free. You are free to worship. You are free to become everything that God has called you to be. And I walk in freedom today. Is anybody walking in freedom today? I'm almost done. Give me a little bit. Come on, Warren, you're looking good back there, brother. Give me some, give me some, give me some keys. So I want you to listen to this for a moment. Just, I'm gonna end it like this and we're gonna call for the prayer team. But the road to freedom may seem our dayshissen and far away for some. But God's deliverance is sure.
I'm gonna say that again. God's deliverance is sure. Past the end, what maybe? God's deliverance is so sure. Just as my grandmother told me of our family story, of our freedom. And the Israelites told their story to their descendants back in the day. So we must share our story of God's deliverance to generation to generation. Because I tell you, our young people has to understand that God is for freedom. He's for liberty. And if he did it for my family, he will do it for you. God invites us to leave behind old mindsets, old behaviors and adopt the true identity. Somebody say true identity, true identity in Christ. Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, and I'll say it again, anyone, it doesn't matter what your skin color is, it doesn't matter how much money you have in your bank account, anyone, anyone who are in Christ, there are new creation and the creation has come. The old has gone and the new is here. Stand with me this morning and as our prayer teams will come. You heard a lot about freedom this morning. But now we get to the point in service where you have to walk it out and the demonstration comes. We've talked about it, we read about it, we sung about it, but now is the time for the demonstration
because the Bible says that the word will not return fully. My God, it won't return void. Whatever the word was spoken for freedom and liberty for your life is for you, don't let the enemy silence your mind. All generational curses be gone right now in Jesus' name. So God, I pray that you just begin to open up the ears to the ear right now because freedom belongs to you. If you need freedom in any area of your life, this altar is open and freedom starts for you today. It starts for you today, sir, for you, ma'am. If you need freedom in your life, just throw your hand up real quick so I know that we've been talking in some folk in this place on today. You need freedom, come on, just begin to come. We're gonna pray with you this morning. I'm gonna pray with you. You need freedom in your life. Come on, just begin to come. All over the building, I see you, sir, I see you, ma'am. Come on, we're gonna pray with you. We're gonna lock arms with you and we're gonna say no more, it ends today. Come on, all over the building. I see you, come on, it's all right. [MUSIC PLAYING] Walk in freedom. Now, I will say this, things that
have been hidden in your life, and you afraid that other people will find out and know about it. God already knows, sir, ma'am. He already knows. Any hidden sin, he already knows. But I would ask you today, if you would give that thing over to the Lord, he will walk your life out the way it's supposed to be walked out in your life. He will continue to move in your life that he will begin to stir some things in your life, sir, ma'am. If that's you, I'm taking time because there's somebody in this place. You've been dealing with some hidden sin, and you just say, you know what, Lord, I'm afraid. I'm afraid what they're going to say, or what they're going to think. It doesn't matter. You're not doing it for your neighbor. You're doing it for you. So Father, we thank you. We bless you. We thank you for the service. We thank you for the wonderful counsel of being in the building today. To take care of the trauma that we've been through and the trauma responses that pop up in our life, God, we give it over to you right now in the name of Jesus. So Father, we thank you, and we bless you. Come on, all over the building. Just begin there. If you're standing out there beginning to extend your arms
and pray, if you need to leave, you can leave at this time. But I tell you, it's all about freedom today. And it's about liberty today, making some stances in our life that no more is happening. So Father, we bless you. We honor you. And we thank you for our pastors, Lord. We pray a blessing and a hand to protection over them as we leave out of this place. But God, would you begin to minister to them where they are? And we thank you for what you're going to do and what you've already done in Jesus' name, in Jesus' name.
