He's Got the Whole World in His Hands | Pastor Jason McKinnies | Purpose House Church

You have your Bibles, so we'll move quickly. We took a little bit longer in worship, but that's okay. And in just a few moments, you're gonna learn a song. Some of you may know it, but we're gonna learn an old song. We're gonna kick off a series today called A School Called Sunday. We're gonna stay in this till about Jesus comes. And how many of you went to Sunday school? Lots of hands around the building. How many of you enjoyed Sunday school? How many of you remember singing songs in Sunday school or in children's church? We're gonna sing some of my favorites over the next eight weeks or so. Some of them, you're gonna get a little radical. We're gonna do the Christian hokey pokey. That's called Father Abraham. Father Abraham, there's no sermon with that. We're just gonna sing it, so gonna sing that. And today, I wanna talk about a song that most of you learned, but maybe you didn't fully understand. And let me give you two verses and then we'll talk about the song. Matthew chapter 28 and verse 18, I'm gonna read out of the New King James Version. So all of you that went to the bookstore and bought a New King James Version of the Bible because that's what I use, we're back using that.

So I got saved and sanctified from the NLT since two weeks ago. Matthew 28, 18, and then we're gonna jump to John chapter 10 and verse 28. And then I'm gonna read those and then we're gonna walk through a little thing. Jesus came and spoke to them saying, all authority, everybody say all. All authority has been given to me in heaven and on earth. And this is where many of us would use an old Christian cliche, this is where we get it from, that he holds all power in heaven and earth in his hand. Anybody ever heard that before? He holds all power in heaven and earth in his hand. Then in John chapter 10, verse 28, Jesus is talking, people are trying to stone him, they wanna put a hurtin' on him and he's having a conversation with them and they're asking him some questions and he gives a response, this is verse 28. And I give them eternal life, thank God for that. I give them eternal life and they, he's talking about us, they shall never perish, neither shall anyone snatch them out of my hand. How many of y'all thankful for that? Nothing and no one, so let me ask you a question, is Lucifer a person? Well, he's not a thing, so he cannot snatch you out of the hand of God, okay? So there's an old Sunday school song,

we grew up singing and it was this. He's got the whole world in his hands, he's got the whole world in his hands, he's got the whole world in his hands, he's got the whole world in his hands. Y'all know it. He's got the itty bitty baby. He's got you and me, brother. He's got the itty bitty baby. He's got the, in his hands. He's got the whole world in his, he's got the whole world. He's got the, he's got the whole world. He's got the whole world. He's got the whole world in his, do you know this one? He's got the wind and the rain. He's got the wind and the rain. In his hands, he's got the whole world in, he's got everybody here. He's got, he's got, he's got.

In his hands, he's got the whole world in his hands. We are? Oh, okay, all right. Are you ready? You ready? Okay, start me off. All right. He's got the whole world in His hands! He's got the whole world in His hands! He's got the whole world in His hands! He's got the whole world! He's got the whole world! He's got the whole world! Oh, He's got the whole world! He's got everybody here! He's got everybody here! He's got the whole world! One more time, he's got the whole world! Sing it out! He's got In his hands, he's got the whole world! Well, he's got the whole world! He's got the whole world in his hands! Yeah! You be seated. It's a great song, isn't it? Years ago, I read a book. It was called, Who Stole My Church? And in it, there was two groups of people arguing over worship. There was an older crowd that was arguing about the fact that they were singing new songs. Then there was the newer crowd, the younger crowd, that was upset that the older crowd didn't like the new songs. So, the pastor got both groups into the office and asked them, asked the first, the older crowd, why are you so adamant about singing the old songs? He said, we learned our doctrine through our worship. So, they turned to the younger crowd and said, why do you like your new songs? We're learning our doctrine through our worship. What we sing and how we sing it and what we put into our lives really determines our worship and our doctrine and our foundation. And so, most of everything that I needed to know, I learned in Sunday school.

We sang songs, but do we really understand the meaning of them biblically behind them, that he's got the whole world in his hand. That carries a truth really deep. In fact, it stretches from creation all the way to the cross and then to the resurrection. We sang it as children. Now, we dance like Gigi. If you don't know who Gigi is, it's... We sang it, all these songs as children. Like, we're gonna sing, The Devil is a Sly Old Fox. I'm in the Lord's Army just because I love the emotions of that song. Clay Bradley's favorite song, Deep and Wide. I should have known better. We sang all these songs as children, but most songs, you don't understand them until you've lived long enough to realize how much actually God has the world in his hands. The question becomes, if it's not in my hands, if my life is not in my own hands, then whose hands is it in? And it has to be the hand of God. And I think sometimes we kind of brush over this about the hand of God being on our lives. And if you don't ever know how to pray, just pray that God's hand would never depart from your life and that you would be on the right hand of God. Isaiah 59 and 1 says, Behold, the Lord's hand is not shortened that he cannot save, nor is his ear heavy that he cannot hear. And so, we talk about God's love, we talk about his voice,

but we really need to be in the hand of God. How many of y'all remember this old hymnal, Hold to God? God's unchanging hand. His hand represents activity, his authority, and his involvement in the affairs of men. And we know that if we have the hand of God, then God is not distant. God is not disengaged. His hand is working even when we don't see it. God's hand is working. The hand of God is what creates. Isaiah 64 and 8 says, we are the clay and you are our potter and all we are the work of your hand. So before you had a name, before you had a past, you were in his hands. His hand formed you and his hand shaped you and his hand designed a purpose into you. So you are not random. You are not accidental. You are handcrafted by God and everything that God crafts is a masterpiece. The hand of God is what sustains us. Psalms 145 and verse 16, you open your hand and satisfy the desire of every living thing. So everything that you need, provision, strength, breath, it all comes from the hand of God. So when the children of Israel needed food, God didn't just speak, he supplied. When Elijah was in a drought, God used ravens because his hand always knows how to sustain us. So maybe you feel like you're running low, but you need to hear that song clearly in your mind. God's hand is not empty. God holds you in his hand. Not only does his hand provide, but his hand protects. Nothing could be snatched out of his hand. So in his hand is a place of safety and it's not a location, it's his hand on your life. So storms may be raging, enemies may rise, but if you're in the hand of God, nothing

can come against you. You are untouchable by anything outside of the will of God because the same hand that formed you is the same hand that covers you. This is a hand that formed the world. Genesis 1 and 1, many people may ask what the most important scripture is in the Bible. It's the first one because if you don't believe it, there's no point in going any further. In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. I read to you Isaiah 64 verse 8, we are the clay and you are our potter. Man was formed by the hand of God and all we are the work of your hand. So from the very beginning, God's hands were not passive. They were very intentional and a potter doesn't just randomly shape clay. Every turn, every press, every detail is very purposeful. So when we say and when we sing, he's got the whole world in his hands. We're not just talking about control. We're also talking about creation. We're also talking about design. The galaxies are in his hands. Your life is in his hands and because you're not random and you are not accidental and you are formed, then you need to understand that God's hand has been on you even before you recognize God's hand was upon you. Let's read it in Psalm 139 verses 13 and 14, for you formed my inward parts. You covered me in my mother's womb. I will praise you for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Marvelous. Look at your neighbor and tell them they're marvelous. Look at the other neighbor you've been wanting to ask out. Tell them they're marvelous. Some of you are looking back at the same neighbor. You need to be maybe looking at the same neighbor. You're marvelous.

When your wife says, how do you look? You look marvelous. Does this dress make me look fat? You look marvelous. You are fearfully and wonderfully made. And that my soul knows very well. So those hands are what create us and formed us, but they are also hands that hold and they reshape us. Isaiah 41 and verse 10, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. So when you feel like you're going down, understand that God will uphold you with his righteous right hand. Then I just want to read this verse to you and I'm going to come back to Jeremiah chapter 18, verses two through four, arise, let me read that in T.D. Jake's form, arise and go down to the potter's house. And the vessel that he made of clay was marred in the hand of the potter. So he made it again into another vessel. Let me reread that for some of you that may be going through something right now. Get up and go down to purpose house. There, you're not gonna find a pastor. There, you're gonna find the potter. And the potter, the vessel that he made, who made you? God made you. The vessel that he made of clay was marred. Where was it marred? It was marred in his hand. You may have wounds and you may have issues in your life, but you're still in his hand. It was marred in his hand. It was in the hand of the potter.

And what did he do with it? Did he throw it away? No, he made it again into another vessel. See, life certainly has a way of slipping through our fingers. Plans fall apart. People walk away from us. Health begins to fail. Dreams get delayed or they seem to be denied. And sometimes you don't feel like you have any control. In fact, you feel like everything is out of control. It feels like everything has been ruined in your life. God's told Jeremiah and he tells you, go down to the potter's house. I want to show you something. And when Jeremiah gets there, he sees a vessel. The vessel that is in the potter's house. It is in the potter's hand. It is not perfect. We church folks have got to get it right in our minds. We were not perfect when he found us. And we're not perfect now. We may be in church and we may be all dressed up, but we ain't perfect. You may have been in this thing for 600 years, like Sherry Al, or been in it for 60 seconds, like some that just got baptized. But my friend, if you can find yourself in his house, you can always be remade and reshaped. What you can't do is get up and leave his house

and get up and leave his hand. So there he found it. It was marred. It was flawed. It was imperfect. It was not what it was supposed to be, but the clay never left the potter's hand. So we often think that if something is broken, we just have to throw it away. If something is broken beyond our repair, we just throw it away. But most things that you want to turn over to God are beyond your repair. Your marriage is beyond your repair. Your finances are beyond your repair. Most of us need to realize that when we come to Christ, we came to Christ in a very selfish season. It was beyond our control. If we could have fixed it, we would have not called on Christ. And most of us find ourselves in situations in our lives so that we will call on Christ. And so what needs to happen though in the church is that once God fixes your life, you need to move out of your selfish season and move into a serve season. That's pastor talk for you need to grow up. Yes. You need to mature. You got fixed.

Now it's time to bring other people who are also marred and imperfect and put them into his hand. But we often think that God is like us, that when something is broken, he just lets it go. Instead, the scripture says, it was marred in his hands. It was not outside of his hands. It was not beyond his reach and it was never out of his control. It was always in his hands. The potter did not throw away the marred vessel. Instead, he reshaped it. He made it again. And sometimes we think that God's goal is to preserve the original plan. Is anybody else in the room living in God's plan B for your life? My hand is up. You ever wanna hear a great sermon? Pastor Melissa preaches about God's plan B. Often we ruin plan A. And then we think I'm living in plan B, it can't be all that great. No, God's plan Bs can be really good for you. Sometimes we think God's only goal is to preserve the original plan. God's greater goal is for his purpose to be fulfilled in your life. And if the vessel gets marred, he does not abandon it, he reworks it.

You may feel like my life didn't turn out how I planned or I've made too many mistakes or something got off track. You are not ruined, you just need to be reshaped. See, how many of you have children? That means you're thankful for Pastor Lindsey. How many of you like to cross the street without holding your child's hand? I know some of you, I know how you drive, so we're just trying to cross the sidewalk with you driving. But when we cross the street, we're holding our child's hand, the child thinks they're holding our hand. Everybody mind from what I'm dropping? The child thinks they're holding your hand, but if they try to remove their hand out of your hand, what do you do? You tighten it up. You're like, Beverly's driving. I had to throw somebody else in besides Jerry. Or my daughter Zoe's driving, or Melissa is singing while driving. That's me holding on to the door. What often happens is we're like the children who are crossing the street. We just think we're holding God's hand. In fact, God is holding our hand. And when things start going wrong in our lives or there's danger that's happening to us, God just grabs hold of us. And we just think we're doing it all on our own. And the old scriptures hold to God's unchanging hand, but nothing can snatch us out of the hand of God. So God's hand is, his unchanging hand is actually holding you.

See we take the credit for, I'm holding to God's unchanging hand. No, God's unchanging hand is holding you. So God's not finished with you even if you feel undone. Maybe you feel marred or you feel like you're imperfect. But if you're still on the wheel, then there's still some time for you to be reshaped. So God is not finished with you. And if it's in his hands, it's not over. Then we go from the potter's hand to what we celebrated last week, his pierced hands. Jeremiah showed us something powerful that the vessel was marred, but it was still in his hand. And the process was messy, but the potter never walked away. But what happens when the issue isn't just damage, or as my oldest daughter so eloquently talked to me about last week, we used to say we cannot disciple demons. We also cannot disciple your decisions. And life often gets messed up because we make decisions, but it also gets messed up because of sin. And we can reshape some decisions, but sin cannot be reshaped. Sin has to be redeemed. So sin can't go to a potter's hand. It has to go through pierced hands. See, the church needs to get this right again. See, we think we can come into God's house and have sin in our lives, and we just say, God bless my mess. No, you need to take your sin to pierced hands and your decisions to be reshaped in his hands. So Jeremiah tells us there's a God who reshapes. But last week at Easter, there's also a God who redeems. So Jeremiah is showing us that the vessel is reworked, but we come to the gospel and now we don't have a potter and clay. We have a potter who became the clay. Y'all good?

So the potter steps into the clay, John 1, 14, and the word became flesh and dwelt among us. So the one who formed man now has become a man. So some things can absolutely be reshaped and be reformed, but sin has to be redeemed. So God didn't just stay at the potter's wheel, he went to a hill. And at the hill, he's going to let his hands be pierced so that your sin can be redeemed. The hands were pierced for who? For the whole world. Luke 23, verse 33, and there they crucified him. John chapter 20, verse 27, then he says, look at my hands. During the crucifixion, something happened to his hands. So the same hands that formed the world held your life. They reshaped what was broken, but now they were pierced. And this is where we find a little bit of tension, if you will, within the gospel. The hands that held everything now are allowing themselves to be nailed. And imagine just holding on to something that was so valuable that even though you're going through the most excruciating pain that you have ever felt, you refuse to let go of it in spite of the pain. If you look at the cross of Calvary, and when they're piercing his hands, even though it may appear, and the enemy would have you to believe he let go of everything, but as they're piercing his hands, even in all of that pain, he refused to let go of the most valuable thing that was ever placed into his hand, and that's you. He loved you so much that he endured the pain of the cross without letting you go. He holds and held everything. So instead of letting go when pressure comes, he endured the pain to keep holding it. That's the cross. Even when it cost him everything, he did not let go. And then those hands that were pierced, those hands that were the potter, are now hands that rose again. Matthew chapter 28, he is not here.

We celebrated this last week, right? He is not here, for he is risen. What does that mean to us? It means that those hands that were pierced were not defeated. The nails did not win, the grave did not win, and death did not win. And he says, no one will snatch them out of my hand. So listen to this. If death could not take him out of his own hand. Then how can the devil take you out of his hand? Not even death itself could allow him to be defeated. Now the enemy wants you to somehow believe that because of an addiction, or because of a divorce, or because of some issue in your life, some habit, some hurt, or some hang up, that somehow that he can snatch you out of the hand of God. You need to realize today that there is nothing that can snatch you out of the hand of God. And so when we sing that song, he's got you and me, brother, in his hand. We're telling you, brother, that no matter what you've messed up in your life, no matter what hurt you have, or habit you have, or addiction you have, or what you're going through, nothing can separate you from the love of God. You're still in his hand, and there's still time for you to be reshaped and remolded because you've been redeemed. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Nothing can separate you. So he's not just holding the world, he's holding your world.

It's one thing to say all those songs, right? He's got the whole world, but my world is falling apart. See, Easter last week made it personal. He's got my world in his hands. He's got my family in his hands. He's got my future in his hands. He's got my fears in his hands. He's got my failures in his hands. The world's really big. See, that's why people have no problem talking about God, but then when we make it personal about Jesus, therein lies the problem. But if you know Jesus, it's personal, and now he's got your world. It's your world that keeps you up at night, isn't it? God doesn't just manage the galaxies, he ministers to hearts. And some of you believe he holds the world, but you're not sure that he's holding your situation. You've probably been asking questions like this. God, do you see this? God, are you still in control? Or maybe you would even go one step further. God, have you let go of me? Well, if he didn't let go of you at the cross, he's not gonna let go of you now. So it goes from the whole world to my whole world. We started with a children's song. Hopefully now you understand it very differently. It's just not he's got the whole world in his hands,

but now he's got my whole world in his hands. I've asked the team to sing more of an adult song for the end of this. See, when we go through a crisis in our life, all of a sudden we start looking at everything else, except for to his hand. Deuteronomy tells us that when we have hit rock bottom, when we look down, we see the everlasting arms of almighty God. So when you've hit rock bottom and you're at the lowest point you have ever been in your life, what we often do is we look at the doctor's report, we look at the divorce decree, we look at all the social media that's attacking us, we look at all the other things. If you'll look down, you will see the everlasting arms of almighty God. Do you know what's attached to the end of the arm? Hands. You'll see that he holds your world in his hands. Even if you're at rock bottom, God's holding your world in his hands. He's got your life in his hands. He's got your future in his hands. He has your healing in his hands. And because of the cross, you're in his hands. And because of the cross of Calvary, you're still in his hands.

Whatever you're facing in life, his hand is there. It's there to prosper you. It's there to protect you. It's there to provide for you. It's there to heal you. It's there to comfort you. It's there to uphold you with his right hand. And throughout this service, God has moved in magnificent ways. But most of that service was us explaining how good God is. Now I feel like God wants to show you how good he is by extending his hand to you. So we have a question to answer today. Who's holding your hand? Are you trying to hold it all together yourself, or are you willing to turn it over to God and allow God to hold your hand? He's got you and me, sister, in His hand. He's got you and me, brother, in His hand. He's got this disease in His hand. Whatever you're facing, it's in His hand. So just for a moment, with every head bowed and with every eye closed, I want to speak to the ones who are sitting here today with a broken heart, with broken bodies, broken marriages, broken promises, broken lives, and you're wondering today, God, have you let me go? Today God is extending a hand to you for you to be reminded that though you may be marred, you're still in His hand. And today He wants to set you upon the potter's wheel, and He wants to mold you, and He wants to make you into who He would have you to be. So just for a moment, with every head bowed and with every eye closed, if you're in this room today and that's you, you're broken, you've had a broken life, everything seems

to be just falling apart, I just ask for you to stand from where you are and meet me at the front of this place. Lord, I know I feel broken, I feel battered, my dreams have been broken, my family is broken, but Lord, I'm coming to you because I'm in your hand. And I need you, God, to mold me and to make me, Lord, into who you would have me to be. The Holy Spirit, do what only you can do across this room right now, speak to every life and to every heart, and minister, God, to only ways that you can minister, and set us, Lord, upon the potter's wheel, and mold us, and make us, God, who you'd have us to be in Jesus' name. So now if we would across the building, would we stand, and I want you to worship, please don't run for the exits.
