All right, we'll be picking up where Alfredo left off last week. In Isaiah 40 and 41, the Israelites are in exile in Babylon and they're in captivity because of their idolatry and their rebellion. They had rebelled against God and His commands. So God punished them. Go ahead and jump ahead to Isaiah 42, verses 21 and 22. The Lord was pleased for His righteousness' sake to magnify His law and make it glorious. Por causa de su justicia en hacer la ley grande y gloriosa. But this is a people plundered and looted.

They are all of them trapped in holes and hidden in prisons. They become plunder with none to rescue, spoil with none to say restore. And these servant songs are prophetic poems. Y estas canciones acerca del siervo son poemas proféticos. And they're all about the person and the work of the servant of the Lord. Y todas ellas tienen que ver con la obra del siervo del Señor. So who's the servant? Ahora, ¿quién es este siervo o sirviente? Well, let's read Isaiah 42, 1 through 4 together. He will not grow faint or be discouraged till he has established justice in the earth and the Coastlands wait for his law. Mi escogido en el que mi alma se complace. So who's this describing? A quién está describiendo aquí? Well, let's think ahead to the transfiguration. Pensemos por un momento en la transfiguración. What does God say to the disciples? ¿Qué es lo que Dios le dice a los discípulos? This is my son, my chosen one, listen to him. The Lord says, I will put my spirit upon him. Remember what happened at the baptism of Jesus. In Matthew 3, the spirit descends like a dove and rests on Jesus. And then the Lord says, This is my beloved son with whom I am well pleased.

He was filled with the Spirit. And he obeyed every commandment of God perfectly by the power of the Spirit. He performed all of his miracles by the power of the Spirit. And his ministry was not going to be restricted just to the Jews. The Lord says he will bring forth justice to the nations. This includes the Gentiles. The Messiah would come and declare and fulfill all righteousness. And he would come and make a way for all nations to be saved and reconciled to God. This is a reminder that God is a global God. And he is passionate for his glory among all nations. And his plan is that people from every nation, tribe, and language will know him and worship him. And how will this happen? Through his servant. Through Jesus Christ. And in verses 2 through 4, we see the character of the servant. He would not come with a political agenda. He would not come to overthrow the government. He would not bring justice by force. He would bring justice through humility. A bruised reed he will not break. And a faintly burning wick he will not quench. He will faithfully bring forth justice. The humble servant would come and bring comfort to the brokenhearted. He would come and strengthen and encourage the weak and struggling. He would come not to be served, but to serve. He would come to give his life for sinners. He would come to satisfy God's justice against sin. He would come as the gentle and lowly Savior. Listen to the words of the servant himself. Many of you are familiar with this passage.

Matthew 11, verses 28 and 29. Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. This is the character of the servant. He's gentle and lowly at heart. Here's something Charles Spurgeon points out. Out of the four Gospels, Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John, which is 89 chapters, this is the only place where Jesus tells us about his own heart. He's the humble Savior who welcomes sinners. All who are weary and heavy laden, Jesus says, come to me. He will provide rest for your souls. That's his mission. That's his mission. Look at verses five through nine. Thus says God the Lord who created the heavens and stretched them out, who spread out the earth and what comes from it, who gives breath to the people on it and spirit to those who walk in it. I am the Lord. I have called you in righteousness. I will take you by the hand and keep you. I will give you as a covenant for the people, a light for the nations. To open the eyes of the blind and bring out the prisoners from the dungeon, from the prison those who sit in darkness. I am the Lord. That is my name. My glory I give to no other, nor my praise to carved idols. Behold, the former things have come to pass. And new things I now declare. Before they spring forth, I tell you of them.

Y yo anuncio cosas nuevas antes de que sucedan, os las anuncio. So here we have the mission of the servant. Entonces aquí tenemos la misión del siervo. God begins by declaring that he is the one true God. Él comienza diciéndonos, declarándonos que él es el Dios verdadero. He's the divine creator of the heavens and the earth and everything in them. And what would the servant come to do? Y qué era lo que iba a venir a hacer el siervo? He would come to fulfill the Lord's will perfectly. And he's speaking of the new covenant. Y le está hablando acerca del nuevo pacto. This was a covenant between the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit before the foundation of the world. The Son would willingly die for sinners. Y el Hijo habría de morir voluntariamente por los pecadores. And the Spirit would apply the works of the Son to repentant sinners. He says, I am the light of the world. Jesus declared that He is the eternal Son sent from the Father. Sadly, many rejected Him. Many still do. Jesus told Nicodemus, this is the judgment. The light has come into the world.

And people love darkness rather than the light because their works were evil. Many despised and rejected Him. Again, many still do. I pray that no one in this room is. But many reject Him because they're slaves to sin and they love their sin. Porque si lo haces, aquel que lo hace es esclavo del pecado y aman su pecado. But Jesus came to bring repentant sinners out of darkness. and into marvelous light. And he would come to open the eyes of the blind and set prisoners free. Jesus himself says in the Gospel of Luke, the Spirit of the Lord is on me. I've come to bring good news to the poor. He sent me to proclaim freedom to the prisoners and to open the eyes of the blind. He was not sent to free people from the Romans or earthly suffering. He came to bring good news. He came to meet our greatest need. He came to free us from the bondage of sin. He came to free us from the slavery in which sin holds us. Jump to Isaiah 43 verse 25. The Lord says, I, I am he who blots out your transgressions for my own sake and I will not remember your sins. How does he do this? How does he do this? How can a perfectly just God blot out our transgressions and still be just? Just like the Israelites, we're rebellious sinners. And our sin cannot go unpunished. For the wages of sin is death. That's what we deserve. So how can we receive forgiveness?

Through the work of his servant, Jesus. The gentle and lowly servant came to do what none of us can do. He obeyed every commandment given by God perfectly. Jesus himself said, you must be perfect as your heavenly father is perfect. Jesus was perfect. He obeyed God perfectly. And then he willingly went to the cross as our perfect substitute. He took the punishment for our sin. He sacrificed himself to satisfy the justice of God. Our sin was laid on him. And this was to fulfill what Isaiah said in Isaiah 53. He was pierced for our transgressions. He was crushed for our iniquities. This is the love of God in Christ. This is how God can be both just and the justifier. So when we repent and come to Christ, all our sin is laid on Jesus. Because he took our sin upon himself on the cross. And then he clothes us in his perfect righteousness. We are dressed in the righteousness of Christ. So God sees us and treats us as though we lived Jesus's perfect life. We're justified in his sight. And this is all of grace. It's not because of anything we've done. But only because of what God has done for us through the person and work of Jesus. Sino por lo que Dios hizo por nosotros a través de la obra de Jesús. Pero ahora, grito como mujer de parto, resuello y jadeo a la vez. Asolaré montes y collados y secaré toda su vegetación. Convertiré los ríos en islas y las lagunas secaré. Conduciré a los ciegos por un camino que no conocen. Por sendas que no conocen los guiaré. Cambiaré delante de ellos las tinieblas en luz y lo escabroso en llanura. Estas cosas haré y no las dejaré sin hacer. Serán vueltos atrás y completamente avergonzados los que confían en ídolos. Los que dicen a las imágenes fundidas, vosotros sois nuestros dioses. Esta es la alabanza por la victoria del siervo. Y este es un llamado a una adoración de parte del mundo entero. Y es un llamado para que su gente, su pueblo, declare su alabanza hasta los confines de la tierra. Este es un llamado para que todas las naciones glorifiquen a Dios.

Because God is passionate for his praise and glory among all nations. And everything he does is for his glory. He created the heavens and the earth for his glory. He created you and me for his glory. He saves us from sin and death for his glory. He provides for us for his glory. He empowers us by his spirit for his glory. And he sends us to proclaim the gospel for his glory. You remember what John the Baptist announced when he saw Jesus coming toward him? Behold, the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world. That's what, that's who Jesus is. And that's what he came to do. And that's what we are to announce among the nations. Behold, the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world. We do this by his grace and for his glory. As we're preparing to come to the table together, I want to read Isaiah 43 verse 25 again. I, I am he who blots out your transgressions for my own sake and I will not remember your sins.
