I'm thankful to God for another opportunity to gather together. If you have your Bibles, go ahead and turn with me to Isaiah chapter 25. We're in week two of our seven-week series on the glory of God. Last Sunday, Alfredo walked us through Isaiah 6. We talked about a believer's response to the glory of God. We respond with admiration. We respond with adoration. We respond with confession. We respond with submission. This morning, we're going to be reading from Isaiah 25 and 26. In chapter 24, Isaiah speaks about God's judgment that will come upon the earth. And in chapters 25 and 26, Isaiah responds with praise to God for his salvation and for bringing judgment on the enemies of God. So let's read chapter 25 together. Please bless the reading and teaching of your word this morning. Help us to store your word in our hearts that we would know you more, love you more, and become more like Jesus. It's in your precious name we pray, amen. It's in your precious name we pray, amen. So current statistics suggest that over 60 million people around the world die every year. So that would mean there are over 160,000 deaths every day in the world. No one likes the idea of death. But death is a part of life. And death is a result of the fall. When Adam and Eve rebelled against God in the garden, sin and death entered the world. And as a result of their disobedience, we've all inherited a sin nature and we're all dying. Our bodies are dying. Our bodies are wasting away. And one of two things is going to happen first. We're either going to die or Christ will return before we do. These two things are inevitable. And everyone knows they're going to die. But people still try really hard to avoid thinking and talking about death. And there are even people who try to avoid death altogether. I just learned this week that there are a lot of people

I just learned this week that there are even billionaires who are having their bodies or their brains frozen to try and avoid death. They hope that science will advance, continue to advance, and that they'll eventually be revived. It's like a sci-fi movie. It's sad. That's the extent that people go to now to avoid death. But for a believer, death is just a doorway that we don't have to fear walking through. As John MacArthur once said, all death can do for the believer is deliver them to Jesus. If you're a believer, then death is not something you need to fear. Because God saves his people. God saves his people. Look at verses eight and nine. He will swallow up death forever and the Lord God will wipe away tears from all faces and the reproach of his people he will take away from all the earth for the Lord has spoken. It will be said on that day, behold, this is our God. We have waited for him that he might save us. This is the Lord. We have waited for him. Let us be glad and rejoice in his salvation.

What a wonderful promise. Isaiah is looking ahead to the day when sin and death will be eliminated forever. He's looking ahead to the day when people from every nation, tribe, and language will forever say, behold, this is our God. He's looking ahead to the day when people from every nation, tribe, and language will forever say, behold, this is our God. It will be people around the throne of grace shouting, holy, holy, holy is the Lord God almighty. We will forever shout, Salvation belongs to the Lord. We will forever shout, Worthy is the Lamb who was slain. But until that day comes, there will continue to be death in the world. But if you're in Christ, then you can be certain that death will only deliver you to Jesus. Because Christ came into the world to save sinners. And whoever believes in him has eternal life. There's no condemnation for those who are in Christ. Because Jesus conquered sin and death. How did he do it? He came, he obeyed every law given by God perfectly. And then he went to that cross as our perfect substitute. He was pierced for our transgressions. He was crushed for our iniquities. The Lord laid on him the iniquities of us all. So he paid the penalty for our sin. He died our death. And then he was buried in the tomb. And if he had stayed in the tomb, then all this would be pointless.

But he didn't. On the third day, something incredible happened. He rose from the grave. He rose from the grave. He is risen. He demonstrated his power over sin and death. And he secured eternal life for all who repent and believe in him. Listen to the words of Jesus himself just before he raises Lazarus from the dead. John chapter 11, verses 25 and 26. Jesus said to her, I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live. And everyone who lives and believes in me shall never die. Do you believe this? That's the question. Do you believe this? Everyone who believes has eternal life. They will not die. Because God saves his people. So rejoice in his salvation. And make his salvation known to others. I mean, how can we keep something like that to ourselves? That would be a very selfish and unloving thing to do. The world is full of lost people who need to know what God has done to save them. And as long as we're here, until we die or until Christ returns, we must declare his glory among the nations. We must declare his saving power among all peoples. We must implore sinners to be reconciled to God. Because Christ came into the world to save sinners. Let's look at Isaiah 26. I want us to read verses 1 through 6.

But even as believers, we cannot enjoy the peace of God if we're just occasionally thinking about him. Because the perfect peace of God is experienced when we're trusting and resting in Christ and his promises. In 2 Corinthians 5, Paul describes the believer as a new creation. En 2 Corinthians 5, Pablo describe al creyente como una nueva criatura. He says if anyone is in Christ, he's a new creation. Y esto es todo por gracia. It's all of grace. Todo por gracia. Glory to God. Gloria sea a Dios. So one way you know that you've been born again is by your desires. Because we don't have the ability and the power to generate those desires. They're from the Spirit. But religious behavior itself can be faked. Unbelievers are capable of doing religious things without having a desire for Jesus. Unbelievers can come to church. Unbelievers can give money to the church. Unbelievers can serve in the church. I'll give you an example. I grew up believing I was a Christian

just because I went to church and tried to be a good person. And when I was in high school, I started leading worship in the church. I was doing what Honas does. Leading worship through song. And then I went to college. And while I was a student, I was hired to lead worship. I was on stage singing songs about Jesus. I even wrote a few songs about Jesus. My mom still has that CD. It's terrible. But internally, I was dead. I was a slave to my sin. I had no desire for Jesus. I had no appetite for his word. I never read the Bible. I had no desire to know him and love him more. I didn't even really have the desire to lead worship. I did it because I was paid to do it. Inwardly, all I desired was to be a famous musician and make a lot of money. And that's what I pursued because that's what I desired. I might have looked like a Christian because I was doing religious things, but I had no desire for Jesus. Actions can be faked, but the desires of our hearts are real. So what do you desire? I remember Jesus's words in Matthew 5. Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness.

If you're hungry and you're thirsty, what do you desire more than anything? Something to eat, something to drink. If you're starving and you're dying of thirst and someone comes and offers you some gold jewelry, will you be satisfied? No. You'll say, I don't want or need that. Why? Because what you desire the most is something to eat and drink. Because what you desire the most is something to eat and drink. Those desires and longings are real. So if you desire Jesus, if you desire to follow him, if you hunger and thirst for him and his righteousness, if you desire to honor him and glorify him, then give glory to God because that's the work of the Spirit in you. Those desires come from God himself as a result of his grace. Psalm 73, verses 25 and 26. I love this passage. Whom have I in heaven but you? There is nothing on earth that I desire besides you. My flesh and my heart are full of you. There is nothing on earth that I desire besides you. My heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.

Do you desire him above all else? Because nothing this world has to offer you can satisfy you. Because nothing this world has to offer you can satisfy you. Wealth, comfort, relationships, fame, power, validation, sex, none of these things can satisfy you. True and lasting satisfaction is found in Christ alone. And he promises to satisfy all who trust in him. So if you have Jesus, then you have everything. He is everything. He's all we have. And he's all we need. He is our strength and our portion forever. Thanks be to God. And that's what we come to the table remembering this morning. We remember Jesus, what Jesus has done for us. We remember all that he has done for us so that we can know him and enjoy him forever. So as Jonas and the worship team lead us in song, let's take time to examine our hearts. Let's take time to confess and repent of sin. Let's remember what Jesus has done on the cross for forgiveness and salvation. And if you're here this morning and you're not trusting in Christ alone, then we kindly ask that you refrain from participating. But we would love to talk to you after the service.
