The Two Priesthoods

What's going on, family? Welcome to video number two. This video is powerful. It sets the foundation for why Jesus's priesthood is superior, why it's eternal, and the only priesthood capable of producing both intimacy and authority in the believer. So we're gonna talk about two priesthoods, Levi versus Melchizedek. All right, this is really important. I feel like a lot of people get confused when it comes to priesthoods, especially Melchizedek, because the scriptures talk about Jesus coming from the order of Melchizedek, and just the fact that the Levitical priesthood, through Aaron, those were the high priests, and Jesus was born of Judah. So we're gonna talk about all this right now, why Jesus is not a Levitical priest, and why his priesthood is eternal. Let's get into this, all right? So if you don't know the priesthood, you don't understand Jesus. If you wanna understand your identity, you have to understand Jesus's identity, because it's been given to us, our identities in Christ. If you wanna understand priesthood, you have to understand his priesthood. Most believers know Jesus as Savior. Many know him as King,

but very few understand him as high priest, very important. Yet the book of Hebrews gives us more attention to Jesus's priesthood than almost anything else regarding his ministry, because everything he purchased for you, your forgiveness, your intimacy, your access, your authority flows from priesthood. So here's the key. Jesus, again, is not a Levitical priest. Jesus is a priest in a completely different order, and Jesus functions in the order of Melchizedek, and that changes everything. Let's break it down. The Levitical priesthood was holy, but limited. Under the old covenant, God established the priesthood through Levi, the tribe of Levi, Levi, tribe of Levi. Numbers chapter three, verse 41. "'Then you shall take the Levites for me. "'I am the Lord,' "'instead of all the firstborn among the children of Israel.' "'The Levites were holy. "'They were chosen. "'They were ordained, but listen carefully. "'Their priesthood was temporary. "'It was earthly, "'and it was imperfect under the old covenant.'" Hebrews 7.11. Therefore, if perfection were through the Levitical priesthood,

what further need was there that another priest should rise according to the order of Melchizedek? The Levitical priesthood could not take away sin permanently, give believers direct access to God, make men spiritually perfect, bring eternal redemption, produce intimacy with God, or even cleanse the conscious. The priests themselves were sinners, and they had to offer sacrifices for themselves. They died. Now priests, when they died, had to take their place, new ones. They were shadows, not the substance, shadows. So they were like previews before the real thing, right? The Melchizedek priesthood, superior, heavenly, eternal. So let's talk about this. Before even Levi, the Melchizedek priesthood was revealed long before Moses, long before the law. A mysterious figure appears in Scripture. We see that in Genesis. It speaks about how he was a king, a priest from God with no genealogy, with no beginning and no end. Genesis 14, 18. Then Melchizedek, king of Salem,

brought out bread and wine. He was the priest of God most high. This is the first time the word priest appears in the entire Bible. And notice, he is the king of Salem, which is actually Jerusalem before Jerusalem was established. Salem, which means peace, Jerusalem. He is a priest of God most high, a priest of Yahweh. Wait, what? How was he a priest of Yahweh before even the Levites were established? He brings out bread and wine. What is this a prophetic picture of? Communion, the bread and the blood of Jesus. And Abraham, actually in that passage, pays a tithe to Melchizedek, showing honor and superiority. Abraham, being the father of faith, bows down to Melchizedek, this mysterious figure who was a king of Salem before Jerusalem was a Jerusalem, right? Pre-Jerusalem, who, you know, he comes out with the bread and the wine. bows down to him and pays a tithe of the enemy spoils. Abraham was taken over dominion, right? He was taken over, he was, he was moving in power and he came and brought a 10th of the enemy spoils till Melchizedek.

This, this, this right here in Hebrews gives us the mystery, Hebrews chapter seven, verse three. He was without father, without mother, without genealogy, having neither beginning of days nor end of life, but he was made like the son of God and remains a priest continually. Melchizedek is a shadow, again, a shadow of Christ. He is not Christ, he is a shadow of Christ. He's not a Levitical priest, he's not an earthly priest, but a heavenly priest that existed before the law and continues after the law. Man, this is, for some people it's confusing, like what? So then I don't get it. How does he have no father, no mother? Was he, was he God? No, he wasn't. Melchizedek was revealed to us in scripture as someone with no genealogy. When you read the book of Genesis, you see all throughout Genesis, it talks about genealogy and, and, and, and, and where people came from. It's constant genealogy, right? I know you guys have read it. You know, you read the Old Testament, you're like, dang, it's even New Testament coming from this person and this person and this, and you're like, man, let me skip over that, right? But you see Melchizedek having no genealogy. Does it mean that literally Melchizedek had no genealogy and he just poofed up from out of the earth,

from out of nowhere? No, Melchizedek was an actual person, but he's revealed to us symbolically in scripture as someone who has no father, no mother, no beginning, no end. It was a shadow or a preparation for the Messiah who would have truly no beginning, no end, who truly, right, was born of a virgin, heavenly father is his father, who truly is from a different priesthood outside of the Levitical priesthood. God wanted to prophesy through Melchizedek of who Jesus would be so that the Jews would understand that Jesus wasn't from the Levitical line. Jesus did not, I mean, the father did not want Jesus the son to be born through the tribe of Levi so that religion could be broken, so that they could realize that the Levitical system of sacrifices and animals and all the things they were doing was flawed. And it wasn't, that wasn't what God wanted. That was like a preview to the real thing, Jesus. So, cause you know, the Jews would have confusion like how is he a priest? He's not born of Aaron, he's not born of Levi. How can he be a priest? But in the Torah, in the book of Genesis, Melchizedek was mentioned for that very reason, to prepare for the actual priesthood of Jesus Christ.

That's why he's in the order of Melchizedek. Many Christians don't realize this, that Jesus could never be a Levitical priest. Jesus could not legally be a priest in the tribe of Levi. Why? Because he was born from the tribe of Judah. Hebrews 7, 14, for it is evident that our Lord arose from Judah, of which tribe Moses spoke nothing concerning priesthood. So what? What? Moses spoke nothing of the tribe of Judah, nothing of the tribe of Judah having priesthood. Judah is actually known for, that word Judah is for praise, right? Tribe of Judah is known for praise. So what? Jesus is a priest, but he's not born from Levites, which is the actual priesthood lineage. How? Because he's from the order of Melchizedek. His lineage is not flesh and blood and carnal, it's from heaven. Under the law, priests could only come from Levi. So Jesus could not serve as priest under the old order, but God never intended Jesus to be a Levitical priest. He intended again, for him to be something far greater. Jesus is a priest in the order of Melchizedek. Again, this is the revelation.

God himself, not man, speaks a prophetic decree over the Messiah. Psalm 110.4, the Lord has sworn and will not relent. You are a priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek. It's again, a messianic prophecy. This is the father speaking directly to the son. And again, Hebrews confirms it. Hebrews 6.20, Jesus has become high priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek. This means Jesus's priesthood is eternal indestructible, heavenly. Remember I spoke about how the Levites, when one would die, another would replace. This has nothing to do with flesh and blood. It's eternal, indestructible, heavenly, straight from the third heaven, perfect, royal, unshakable. changing, superior, and everlasting. His priesthood cannot be transferred, replaced, or ended. The Levitical priesthood was temporary under the Old Covenant. The Melchizedek priesthood is forever. So what makes Jesus' priesthood superior? Hebrews lays it out plainly. His priesthood comes with an oath from God. Hebrews 7.21, The Lord has sworn and will not relent. You are a priest forever. No Levitical priest ever received an oath, but Jesus did. His priesthood is based on indestructible life. Hebrews 7.16, According to the power of an endless life. Priests die, Jesus rose. The priesthood brings a better covenant. Hebrews 7.22, By so much more, Jesus has become a surety of a better covenant, which means better promises, better access, better relationship. His priesthood is permanent. Hebrews 7.24, but He has an unchangeable priesthood. That means no replacement is needed. You can't

replace the Messiah. No successor, no one came before Him, no weakness. His priesthood is perfectly effective. Hebrews 7.25, Therefore He is also able to save the uttermost those who come to God through Him. Levi could never cover sin. I'm sorry, Levi could only cover sin temporarily, but Jesus removed sin permanently. So what Melchizedek reveals about Jesus? Melchizedek shows that Jesus is a king, right? King of Salem, king of peace, a priest, meaning intimacy, priest of God, most high, the source of communion. Again, he brought bread and wine foreshadowing the new covenant, a superior to Abraham. Abraham, the father of faith, tithes to Melchizedek. Hebrews 7.7, Now beyond all contradiction, the lesser is blessed by the better. So Jesus is greater than Abraham, greater than Levi, greater than the law, greater than religion, greater than every earthly system. So why does this matter for your identity? This is where it becomes personal. If Jesus were a Levitical priest, then your identity would be taught, would be tied to the law. If Jesus, again, was a Levitical priest, your identity would be tied to the law, to performance, to sacrifice, to distance, to human weakness. But because Jesus is a priest after the order of Melchizedek, your identity is tied to intimacy, access, dominion, kingship, priesthood, righteousness, grace, and eternal life. Some of you might be asking, so then am I of the order of Melchizedek? No, you are of the order of Jesus. You are royalty. Jesus is the king of kings. We are a king. We are kings under the king, given full authority, access, dominion, but we are still under him. We are submitted to him. He's the only one after the order of Melchizedek. Again, God the Father used Melchizedek as a way to prophesy about who Jesus would be. Melchizedek, you know, this is theologically debated, but I believe he was an ordinary man born of a father and a mother. He just had a revelation that was straight from God of priesthood and kingship. He was a king and a priest, but God will use people to fulfill his will. You see, people can't, it bothers them because they can't accept that. Like, what? God likes to use ordinary people to demonstrate what he wants, his sovereignty, his power, his authority, so that nobody gets the glory because people will look at Melchizedek like, who is he? I want to know him because they really want to worship somebody other than God, but God wants us to worship him so he can put a king and priest, you know, a mantle or that the kingship and the priesthood that Melchizedek have on an ordinary man to demonstrate his power to prepare the way for Jesus Christ. So, it's not about Melchizedek, it's about Jesus. That's the whole point. He comes from the order of Melchizedek. God was using Melchizedek to teach

the people of Israel that he's not coming through Levi. It's not about the law, old covenant. It's from the order of Melchizedek. No beginning, no end. You write Prince of Peace. It's a messianic prophecy. Melchizedek is a literal foreshadowing or messianic prophecy of Jesus Christ. This is why Hebrew says, Hebrews 10 19, Therefore, brethren, having boldness to enter the holiest by the blood of Jesus, you can enter because your high priest is eternal. We have access to the holy of holies because Jesus Christ is eternal. We have access to Everything you know how much that is my brothers and my sisters. It is grace. It is on we don't deserve it But we've been given it to we've been given it because of the blood of Jesus First Peter 2 9, but you are a chosen generation a royal priesthood again. We are part of a royal Priesthood we are a king and a priest just like Melchizedek and like Jesus, but again, we're not from the order of Melchizedek We are from the we are from the order of Jesus right him he gives us the order of royalty Simple a royal priesthood not a Melchizedek priesthood not a Levitical priesthood a royal priesthood My god, we're both kings and priests under the King of Kings Your identity flows from his identity Jesus the the Levi priesthood is over in the Melchizedek priesthood again is For as Jesus comes from the the line of the order of Melchizedek is now through Christ But we are not part of Melchizedek. We are part of the the priesthood of Jesus Christ as royal royalty simple Hebrews makes it clear Hebrew 712 for the priesthood be being changed of Necessity there is also a change of the law. So the moment Jesus rose the order shift Is shifted the Covenant changed the access changed the priesthood changed and the entire spiritual reality change We are no no longer under the shadow. We are under the substance We no longer have to approach God Through earthly priests we approach God through our heavenly high priest Jesus We are no longer part of a priesthood of death. We are part of a priesthood of life You belong to a superior priesthood family. Listen You don't belong to the order of Levi you don't belong to the Old Covenant You don't belong to to the order of Melchizedek. You don't belong to the to a powerless religion You don't belong to a priesthood of weakness in Christ. You belong to the order of kingship priesthood authority intimacy eternity victory and righteousness
