The Goodness of God - Part 26 - Biker Sunday, God is Good!
Brother Mike preaches a message about The Goodness of God on the Living In Victory Broadcast.
Let me introduce my pretty wife to you, Shara. She's been a blessing to me. That's the goodness of God right there. So matter of fact, when I met her, I got married in 58 days or 59 after we met. I figured if she got to know me, it'd be over. So I had to lock it in while I could, you know. She's in covenant, man. She's stuck. So she may have got the bad rap, but you know, I came out pretty good. And if you would, turn with me to Psalms chapter 34, verse 8 for any of you guys that have your Bible. I grew up, my dad, after coming back, you know, he was over in the war from Vietnam days. And you know, whenever he came back, he told me I was going to church. And so he made me go to church seminar with Pastor Barry. But the church I went to, they taught me hellfire and brimstone. It didn't matter what I did, I was going to hell for it. And I ran from God for years, me and my wife both did. And I wanted nothing to do with God. I thought any God that's going to send me to hell, that's that mean? I want nothing to do with. So I ran from him and partied all over the place. But the mercy of God brought me out. The goodness of God brought me out. I realized God was good. The word says in Psalms 34, verse 8, it says, oh, taste and see that the Lord is good. Well, I got some real revelation of that after I got married. So we were in Houston a couple of days before we got married. And I said, where are we supposed to pick up your mom? This is when you could still go to the gate.
And she says baggage came. I said, well, where else would you pick up a mother-in-law with her baggage claim? So the baggage that came with our marriage is my mother-in-law. And so that's going to cost me. But it wasn't long, and she said, let me cook for you. I didn't stay outside. I went in, tasted it, and thought, mm, this is good. You can't taste the goodness of God by not coming close to him. You've got to taste it to know it. It's not just by looking at it. You've got to experience the goodness of God. So over time, I learned to experience the goodness of God and understand that he's good. And, you know, I was taught that God is not a good God, and that he could take your kids, he may take your life, cause you poverty, because he may want to teach you something. That's ignorance. If it was your kid, do you ever tell your kid, I'm going to spank you because I want you to learn something when you've been good? No. That doesn't even make sense. It's only in religious circles, stupid religious circles do you hear stuff like that. God is good, and he does good, and he wants to do good today. And John 10.10 says the enemy comes to kill, steal, and destroy. So it's real simple. If it's killing, if it's stealing, it's destroying, it's not of God. If it's good, God's involved. It doesn't matter what it is. God's involved in it. There's been times where I, well, up here in Colorado riding around, I about straightened a curve more than once up in the mountains. You ever had that happen?
And all of a sudden you're back in the road? That's the goodness of God helping you. He protected you. I'm sure everybody in here has had that situation in your life, whether you've got a scooter or not. And see, people don't know the authority they have in God, how good he is. There was a meeting where I was invited to it, and I went to it for the first time, and a warlock, anybody know what a warlock is? And he came up to me and he said, you know, that Jesus stuff is cool. But he said, let me show you, you know, my God. Come with me and bow your knees and do some saint worship, and I'll show you, show you, show you real power. I turned around, and I said, my God created your God. My God defeated your God. Greater is he that's in me than he that's in you. He actually sees me today, and he goes, hey, man, he walks by me on the other side of the room. I don't know what he saw. But see, the goodness of God gives you authority, it gives you mind, it gives you power, and it protects you and blesses you. And I was never taught that growing up. Let's continue on. It says, blessed is the man who trusts in him. That word trust. It has faith in him. I used to have a Panhead, not as nice as Pastor Barry's, and, uh, man, I lived in Castle Rock. I couldn't even ride through the springs without having to have, you know, a bucket of bolts and, and things with it. It's a cool bike. But I couldn't trust that bike to take me anywhere. But God blessed me with a Screaming Eagle, kind of like Pastor Barry's. I can trust that bike to take me something. You can trust God if you believe in Him to bring you up, to bring you out, to help you,
to prosper you, to protect you, to help your kids out. Anybody here want their kids doing well? Yeah. See, we're children of God. If you've given your life to Him, we're His children. He wants us to do good. He wants us to prosper and has a plan for us to do it. I remember, uh, oh, this has been 15 years ago. There was, uh, one of the guys here in one of the clubs. He was a, a president at the time. And I, Sharon and I just got this brand new convertible twin turbo Corv, and it was a sports car. And so Sharon and I drove up to his house and his son's out there looking at it, man. He's like, wow, this is cool. So I tossed him the keys, brand new, had a couple thousand miles on it. And he's like, really? So he starts driving 20 miles an hour with his kid in it around the block. Come on. So he came back and I'm like, dude, either drive it like you stole it or let me take your son out. And man, he had a blast. He spun the tires going out. I had a blast just watching him see the goodness of God. If I didn't have the goodness of God working in my life, I couldn't have tossed him the keys to that. See, God blesses me so that we can be a blessing. And that's the plan of God. I had a blast with that. You know, there's so much fake news going on. Well, let me tell you the fake news of the millennia is that God isn't good. That's just a lie. God is a good God. He has good plans for us. That's the real fake news. And anybody here ever got a bad rap? I have. A matter of fact, Pastor Barry, the first time I told him that I was coming up here to start a chapter and we're going to minister to outlaw bikers, he looked at me and he goes, you yuppie, what are you talking about? And a little Pete met me not too long after that. And he was like, what is tribe of Judah Ben-Priest thinking about sending this yuppie up here? You know, thought that they were out of their mind and thought he was going to get killed, you know, being around me. But it's the goodness of God that draws people. And I remember, what was it, October 1999? There was a situation down in the springs where a bunch of guys got busted and it was a bad rap. And man, if some of the things that people hear were true, my mama should have been in prison years ago. I don't know how many times she told me, boy, I brought you into this world, I'm going to take you out. She had a bad rap. And I bet there's some moms in here that should be too based on some of this stuff. Well, there was about 40 guys, but the goodness of God, they were over at Orchard Road at that time at a Biker Sunday. The goodness of God, we were able to pray over about 40 of them. Not one of them was sent to prison. And it was all over stuff over a bad rap, just junk. There
is so much lies out there, you can't believe it. You should know what's in your heart according to the spirit of God and God will reveal things to you and you know the truth. But his plan is to help you. And so, I got a bad rap from your own pastor here. Anyway, going right on. It says, I'm going to back up to Psalms 34. It says, I will bless the Lord at all times. His praise shall be continually in my mouth. Why? Is it just a bunch of religious nuts? Well, some of them are. But your praise is in your mouth because God's good to you. That's why. Why else would you praise God? Why else would you even come to a church? Because he's a good God. I wouldn't want to waste my time going to a God that wasn't good, a weak God, a puny God. No, not at all. My soul shall boast in the Lord. The humble shall hear of it and be glad. Oh, magnify the Lord with me or brag on him. I remember we were in Sturgis one year and we were praising the Lord that morning, which is something we do every time, every morning. And man, this gnarly, ugly storm came rolling in. And there was a small party group there, club, that had made fun of us. That's not too smart. And it rolled in. And before you knew it, their tents were blown over. And this big tree fell down. They had a van with all their food and everything in it. It fell down on top of this van and over on top of a bunch of their motorcycles. The president of the club comes running over and he goes, dude, you guys didn't have anything blown over. He goes, pray for me, man. And I'm like, that's just the goodness of God. But I guess they got their lesson from making fun of me. God's good to me. That's all I can say. And then it says, I sought the Lord and He heard me and delivered me from all my fears. Man, there's so many people that are afraid of everything in the world. I'm afraid of the sun. I'm afraid of breathing. I'm afraid of the air. Man, God delivered me from all that. I remember whenever I first, before I went drag racing, you know, airplanes, perfectly good ones, are made to jump out of, hang gliding, and, you know, motorcycles, speed. Well, the first time I went down the track, there was a port-a-potty at the end. I went right to it. It was wild. And right after that, I'm like, let's do it again. You overcome fears by dealing with them head-on. There's a couple guys in here that know of a situation a few years ago. There was a club out west that said, we started a chapter out there, and they said, you guys aren't going to start here. And so, they wanted to meet with
somebody. I was an officer international at that time. And so, I flew out to meet with them. And they took me to a back, way away from town, out into a field. They had this clubhouse. And they took me inside it for this meeting. And they invited me to go down to the basement. So, of course, I'm like, okay, what's going on here? And there's a meat locker back there. Anyone know what meat lockers are good for? Yeah. And so, I'm thinking, am I going to be hung up and strung there? And so, they came in, and a couple of guys are there. And they pulled guns on me, told me that we weren't going to be there. And I had the opportunity to be afraid. The opportunity. But see, I know where I'm going when I die. When you know where you're going, you can truly live. When you're not afraid to die, you can truly live. If you're afraid to die, I can help you out with that today. As soon as you know where you're going in the goodness of God, what's there to be afraid of? I'm going to get to glory sooner? Well, they brought me in. They told me we weren't going to be there. I said, yes, sir, we are. They said, no, you aren't. And they asked me a bunch of questions. And then they said, who gave you the authority to be here? This freaked them out. They didn't understand it. And I said, well, God told me to be here to bless you, to help you. And they were like, oh. Okay, cool. And it was over. And we've been up there ever since, doing good things. But see, the enemy will try to stop good things from happening in your life. He'll try to put these walls in there. He'll try to put a tax on there, attack your kids, your body, your finances. Because he doesn't want you to know that God is good. But as soon as you realize how God good is, and stand on his word, and humbly, mercifully ask for his help, he'll come in and help you in those situations. He'll quicken you. He'll give you strength. He'll encourage you. You know, I was over in Samoa a few months ago. Anyone know they're growing big there? Man, oh, there's some big people. I mean, their forearms are bigger than my chest. And I won't say my belly, because my wife says I'm getting chunky. But I'm talking to one guy, and he said, I like Americans. You know, and of course, most of their language is in Samoa. I like Americans. And I'm an American, so I'm like, yeah. We're a good country, man. Good people. He goes, tastes good. Send
more. I was on a cannibalistic island. That'll stir you up. You know, these ribs out here, they're not from a cannibalistic island, okay? Just so, so interesting fun times. I'm going back there in a few months, I guess. But anyway, going on. It says, they looked to him and were radiant, and their faces were not ashamed. The poor man cried out, and the Lord heard him, and said, oh, man, I want you to be poor. No. I cried out, and he saved them from all his troubles. What was his troubles? He was poor. See, God is good. He wants to prosper you. He wants to bless you. He wants to give you health. He wants to help your children. That's his plan. John 10, 10 says, the enemy comes to kill, steal, and destroy. But I have come to give you life, and life abundantly. So the poverty was a reason for his troubles. And then in verse 7, it goes on to say, the angel of the Lord encamped around him. Anybody here glad they've got angels? Man, every one of us has had an angel that's protected us. We wouldn't have made it past two years old if we didn't. At least if you lived like I did, jumping, you know, thinking you were Tarzan at five years old, and trying to find the tallest thing to jump off of, and, you know, trying to figure out how many times you go to the emergency room during the summer. And, you know, some of you guys know I've been in emergency room a few too many times. Drag racing, I hit the wall. That didn't, that didn't feel good. And I was lifelighted, but I was out in two days when they told my wife I'd be mentally retarded or paralyzed. She tells you she can admit. by God's word that I am not paralyzed. Figure out the rest of that one on your own. Well, no, God is good to me. And I experienced the goodness of him in the land of the living. You know, like I said, I was taught when I was young that hellfire and brimstone, you didn't go to church every day, you're going to hell. Anybody here want to go to hell, burn? I see that hand, no, no, there's no hands, nobody wants to go and burn in hell. You don't even like a third degree burn on your hand.
So that's just deception of the enemy, it's just a lie. See, Satan is a loser, man, the biggest loser of all time. Why would anyone want to do that, serve somebody who's the biggest loser of all time? He was God's right hand angel and because of his pride, he's done, he's going to burn in hell. Who wants to do that? He's a weak God. As a matter of fact, I'm going to show you a short video clip about, give you an example of how puny and weak he is. So if you guys would, why don't you show that video here real quick. Enough! You are all of you beneath me. I am a God, you dull creature, and I will not be bullied by — Puny God. See my God's not puny, my God's not weak. Gives you an idea of what the real creator of heaven and earth really is. He's not a puny, weak God. God doesn't like anything weak, neither do I. Anybody here like weak things, a weak motor? No. God likes, God's powerful. He created us to enjoy the things of power. That's why he created us and gave all authority to us from heaven and earth that we have power. If you would, turn with me to Matthew 15, 22. He's a good God. There's a friend of ours and she didn't know the goodness of God. One of her sons was murdered in an outlaw biker shooting and her other son was in prison because he went to that club and blew up their clubhouse and got busted. So he was in federal prison and she had five of her grandkids that she was raising. And you know, they were having to take the bus just to go get groceries.
You know, that's pretty rough life whenever they don't have anything to even — a way to go get food for her grandkids. So because of the goodness of God, Sharon and I were able to bless her and we bought her a van. Tell me, that's good, isn't it? Helping somebody in need. So we were able to help her get a van. And over time, we were able to help them, you know, at times get some money for them, raise them. Well, her kids ended up all getting to know Jesus. Her son ended up getting to know Jesus as a result of that goodness in prison and ended up telling other people about how good God was. See, that's the goodness of God. That's what's supposed to be happening. We're supposed to be blessed so that God can help us bless other people and help other people. Amen? Matthew 15, 22. Anybody here know that God is good? All the time? Yeah. Let's talk about that. See, is that really true? And behold, a woman of Canaan came from the region and cried out to him saying, have mercy on me, O Lord, son of David. My daughter is severely demon-possessed. Who wants a kid that's possessed? I don't. So she went to Jesus and he said, but he answered her not a word. He ignored her.
That's not, how can that be good? Doesn't sound like that's the goodness of God, is it? Let me give you a piece of advice. Always stay on God's side. She could have got upset and left at that point in time. And his disciples then came and urged him saying, send her away before she cries out after us. Get rid of this stinky, smelly, psycho chick. She's annoying us. That's what the, that's what the members of the staff at the church did. Like, you know, our brother pastor here, the associate. That's the type of people that did that. That's what causes people to not want to go to church. Instead this church is a church known for compassion. And instead Jesus had to correct his own disciples and said, send her away before she cries. But he answered her and said, I was not exempt, sent except to the lost house of the sheep of Israel. I'm here for my own family. My family's got enough problems. Anybody here got family that's got challenges? We all do. We all got some crazy people in our family. And then she came and worshiped him saying, Lord, help me. In other words, she got real with God. If you want. God to help you, you have to get real with him. She came to him with the attitude of let me just go and get something from God. And then I'll go back. She had to get real. You want something from God today, you get real with him.
And he will move on your behalf, amen? And she said, Lord, help me. But he answered her and said, it's not good to take the children's bread and give it and throw it to the little dogs. He wasn't calling her a dog, let alone double dog ugly or coyote ugly. He was saying, you live like a dog. Why would I want to help you? You come in here prideful, arrogant. Let's go on. And she said, Lord, yet even the little dogs eat the crumbs which fall from their master's table. Even the little dogs. See it doesn't matter what you've done, what you've done in your life, what you're doing today, if you come to God humbly, with honor, you don't think he knows what you're doing. When I was out partying, you think, oh, I kept it from my parents. Try to act like a good little kid that they wanted me to be, put on a big facade. But they knew what I was doing. As soon as I got real, God was able to intervene in my life and help me. Same thing here. She got real with God. Then he answered and said, oh, woman, great is your faith. Let it be to you as you desire. Everybody here got desires of their heart, things that they'd like to see done in their life, ways to come out, things that are challenging, whether it be finances, health, situations with their boss, work, whatever. God can move on you and help you because he's a good God. And he said, and her daughter was healed from that very hour. That very hour. As soon as she humbled herself. Because you see, God is a good God.
He's been good to me. Amen? Just like Renny, the lady I talked to, told you about, man. He's been good to her. But you see, you have to be real. A few years ago, some of you guys knew, I got real thin. I was dealing with internal bleeding. I was on three, two to three pints or units of blood a week. I went to the Mayo Clinic and they were trying to tell me that, hey, in a couple of years you probably won't be here. You won't be able to work. No, you won't be able to ride. Well, anybody know that the FAA requires you to be at a certain level of health and go through a physical to fly jets, let alone internationally? I've been restored from that. Even though the doctor said from the Mayo Clinic that they can't. See, that's the goodness of God. I know that God is here to heal, to help people, to bring them up and out. He did it for me. Yeah, boy, during that time, my wife, I'd be on the ground, pain rolling, and she'd come in and she'd be like, get up. Get up. See, that's just like Jesus. If you saw her, you'd think she's being mean. No, she was telling me, you're not going to quit. I'm not going to pamper you and baby you and do everything for you. She's strong. A normal woman would be like, oh, my baby, let me get something for you. But she's like, get up. No, you got the strength, you're healed by the stripes of Jesus, you're healed.
Get up. I'm not doing it for you. No. And she'd go off and do her thing, let me there. But it caused me to fight. It caused me to get the attitude, I'm an overcomer. God created us to be overcomers, more than overcomers. He created us to be fighters, not big sissies. You know, one of the things I despise in these old Western movies is you see these preachers hiding out underneath the wagons with the wives, with the women, and the real men out there fighting. That's a bunch of bonk. It's not a preacher. See the man of God is supposed to be powerful and mighty. Remember King David? I'm only going to take a few more minutes of your time, but some of you guys remember King David. He was a short guy like me, good looking, and you know, but what happened? He went after Goliath. Here's all these big warriors, and what'd he say? Man, give me a stone, I'll take him out. He said, give me three stones. He's got brothers, I'll take them out too. See that is the spirit of God working in him. That's the spirit of God. And what'd he do? Take out that rock, boom, hit the guy right in the head and used his own sword to take his head off. See that's what a man of God is supposed to be. So many people think God's mean, God's not nice, God doesn't care, or that Christians
are supposed to be whammy-tamby people. That's just such a lie. David was actually ready to reload, you know, and take out the whole bunch. See he had a perspective of a lot of bikers. His perspective was, you cut one of my brothers, we all bleed, and I'm going to make you bleed, I'm going to take you out. That's the attitude we're supposed to have, amen? More than overcomers. I'm not going to quit, anybody here a quitter? No man, we ain't made to quit, we're made to fight, to overcome. Well King David, he had, um. He had a bunch of guys that were nomads. He had a nomad chapter, and he had 400 men that were traveling with him, right? You guys know the story. But do you remember that there were three men that crossed the enemy lines to get him water? And it goes on in Talks in Samuel, chapter 23, where there was a fourth one that did greater feats than these. Four men out of the 400 did amazing things. That was the first one-percenters. They'd been around for years, guys. Men who were willing to go to war. Men who were willing to do tough things. Not big sissies. And that's what these men here are about. They don't like weak, whammy-pammy things. If they do, then they really aren't who they say they are. And I know most of them are. See, that's the way God has created us to be. A life of strength and overcoming.
But we're supposed to fight. If you're not a fighter, man, you need to get your attitude right with what God has created you to be. He created us to fight. Not to be losers. Not to be quitters. Not to be big sissies. And um, but part of being a man of God is also having compassion. That's what Jesus did. He had compassion. You know, to go to the cross and die for you and to die for me, and to be whipped, that takes some strength. They didn't have things back then like we do now to take away pain. That takes some real strength, real man. And uh, that is God's plan for us today. But He also has compassion, amen? That's what this church is about, is showing compassion. There's some people in the biker world around here, and one of my greatest desires whenever I can help the people, man, and my friends that are in different clubs. Compassion works. And Jesus has done that. And if you don't know Jesus as your Lord and Savior, you can get to know Him right now and He'll have compassion on you and give you eternal life. That is the greatest thing that anybody could ever have. Yeah, we're all gonna die. Your dog gonna die. Your cat gonna die. Your flowers are gonna die. We're all gonna die. But the good news is, is you can go to heaven for eternal life.
Or you can go and be like Lockie and be flown around with Hulk and be a loser. But if you don't know Jesus, man, all you have to do is right now just say, Lord, I worship you. I ask you to be my Lord and Savior, and it's done. You don't have to come up to a front, all that kind of stuff. It's between you and God. You can get yourself right with God right now and have eternal life. You do that, your, your name is written in the Lamb's book of life, in His book for eternal life. Amen.
