♪ We're living in victory ♪ The battle's won in victory ♪ We've overcome whatever comes our way ♪ Your word is just a seed ♪ We're living in victory ♪ Through our Lord Jesus Christ Hello, this is Mike Cannaday with the Living in Victory broadcast. We're gonna continue our series today on the goodness of God. Stay tuned with us. We still have a couple very key items to cover in this series. Today we're gonna start on the goodness of God in regards to the names of God that reveal the character of God, His goodness. This is part 17 of the series. The series is based on Psalms 34, verse 8, which says, oh, taste and see that the Lord is good. He is good to me. The more you recognize His goodness, the more you thank Him for His goodness, the more you declare His goodness, the more He will be good to you. Amen? You're giving Him glory and praise. Every time you tell Him thank you for His goodness and He says, oh, you think that's good?
Let me show you this. It goes on to say, blessed is the man who trusts in Him or who has faith in Him. Amen? In the second verse, it's John 10, 10. It says, the thief does not come except, these are the only reasons he comes. What kind of a creature comes to kill and to destroy? Evil, devilish, selfish creature. Amen? He wasn't created that way. He chose it. You know, you have choices today. You can choose whether or not to believe the Word of God, to trust Him, to serve Him, to obey Him, or to do your own thing. And the Word says, choose this day whom you will serve, life or death. You can either have life today and eternal, or you can choose death and have eternal death, damnation in hell. I choose life. What about you? It goes on to say, I have come or Jesus has come that you and I may have life
and have it more abundantly. Glory to God. Well, join your faith with me, Heavenly Father. We come to you asking you for understanding of Your Word. Show us things in Your Word, how to apply them to our lives that we would be doers of Your Word living in victory, living in Your goodness, experiencing Your goodness. Father, show us areas that we have thought incorrectly regarding Your goodness or blamed You for situations. Show us the truth in it and we thank You for it. In the name of Jesus, amen. Well, each of the names of God carries deep significance about God's nature, God's character, His relationship with His children. These names are not just titles but they're powerful declarations of who He is. You know, God is who He is to you if you believe it and declare it.
If you believe He's a bad God to you, well, He's not going to give you the goodness in your life that He wants to. Amen? These names back in the Hebrew and the Greek and the Bible, they were not just labels or a brand. Okay? You go to the store and you see all kinds of labels and brands and all they are is a brand name that somebody came up with. These are names that carry descriptions about who He is, the power He is. Amen? They carry weight. They are very heavy and they define His goodness. Psalms 148 13 says, Let them praise the Lord. Let them praise the name of the Lord. I praise you, Lord. Well, which name are we talking about? We're going to go into some of them. There are numerous names in the Bible but we're going to talk about a handful
of these, maybe up to 16 that are specific situations about His goodness in times of turmoil. Let them praise the name of the Lord for His name alone is exalted. His splendor is above the earth and the heavens. What is the name of the Lord? Egyptian names back in the Old Testament. They were numerous names about worthless, powerless gods, their descriptions of their minimal ability, what they could do, who they were, what they controlled, and what they could not control. But all these gods, they are based on evil, demonic descriptions of demons that are back in it. But Jesus stripped them of all power, all authority, brought them to naught, just like he did their leader Satan. I want to serve the person who stripped him of their power and gave that power and authority to you and me, amen? So we took, we have the ability to speak against the schemes of the enemy because Jesus took all authority, all power, and he gave it to you and me. But we still must resist that loser and stand on the Word of God, amen? You know, some of the Egyptians' gods were like Ra, Osir, Isis, Horus, and you know, like the word Ra. And back then, humans believed that Ra's tears and sweat were where they came from. In other words, they called themselves the cattle of Ra. I don't want to be a cow. I don't want to be an old heifer. The myth of the celestial cow, that's a doctrine of mood. That cow needs to be killed, not just tipped over. It needs to be killed. Kill that old heifer, amen? Osir, or Osir, it was a god of fertility, agriculture, and life. And Isis was
afterlife and a god of death. Well, what if Isis and Osir disagreed? You got a problem. Are you getting life? Are you gonna die? Which one's gonna win, amen? I want a God that is above all this stuff, not this devilish stupidity of demons that try to manipulate you, to kill you. What kind of gods are these? They aren't gods. They're defeated demons, losers, amen? Moses, whenever he went in to Egypt and he was going against some of the different ten plagues, each one were about gods of Egypt to prove to them that they had no power of the God, the King of Kings, God who said, I am that I am. We're gonna talk about that in the next couple messages about what that means. Moses, whenever flies came, the God of flies. We need to kill the fly, amen? The God of the Nile, the frog. He was a God that went ribbit and ate flies. Well, wait a second. The frog ate the flies. Well, does that mean that the God of the Nile was more powerful than the God of the flies? Well, what about God over dust? That's where the lice came out of. No, we need to kill those nasty things. Go to Walgreens. Go to, you know, your local drugstore. Buy some Overt and kill those nasty things, amen? They're not gods. Buddha, what kind of God is a fat man that can hardly get up? No, he's a dead fat God, amen? He is no God. He can barely walk, let alone do something for you. Why do you want to serve a God that can barely get up, let alone do anything? I want a God that's powerful. Allah, he dead, amen? He's in the grave. Most of these so-called Egyptian gods have a description associated with trickery, associated with lies. Well, Satan is the father of lies. Of course, any demon that we call a god is going to be, that's underneath Satan, is going to have trickery, deception, amen? The Bible says truth, the spirit of truth, the word of truth, which is a Bible, it sets us free. And he who the Son sets free is free indeed. I want freedom, amen? See, when Moses went in and stood against Pharaoh and all their gods, it showed that they had no power, amen, against the God of the Hebrews, the God of the creation of heaven and earth, amen? He's the God that set the Hebrews free. And if you're going through a trial, a tribulation, God will set you free, amen, if you trust him and do it his ways. Well, I've done business in India, Hyderabad, places like that in the software industry. You know, the
Hindus have over 300 million gods. It's hard not to upset one, amen? Some of them is like Ganesh. It's an elephant head. What God makes himself an elephant head? Now, you know I ride motorcycles, but Jodhpur, J-O-D-H-U-P-P-U-R, H-P-U-R, I don't know if I said it right, but Jodhpher is the motorcycle god. We need to rebuke that thing, amen, the spirits behind it. Bullet Baba. It's a 3,500 cc Royal Enfield Bullet motorcycle. Kickstart, it won't work, it's even got a flat tire. What kind of god won't start? Has to have a human kickstart it, is rusted, and doesn't even have air in his tower. I mean that is a serious poor god, weak god. No, this is serious stupidity is what it is. Karna Mata, the rat god that blesses the country with nasty disease, nasty carrying rats and rodents, you know, that get people sick. No, we need to kill that rat. It ain't no god. Some of this stuff is just ignorance, amen. They're backed by evil spirits. Don't go to fortune tellers. Don't go to card readers. Oh, they know about my past. No, the word says that there's demons that have been around for millennia, and they know things, so you're talking to demons who want to lie, steal from you, kill you. Don't go to them, amen. You're opening up the door. Talking to the dead is actually not talking to them. Their spirit is either in heaven or hell. You're talking to demons, to evil spirits, amen. It may sound cool at first, but it's really unwise. It's actually dumb. They are drawing you into a trap to keep you out of the goodness of God. We need to serve the one true God over all, amen. So all the names we're going to go over today were names given in times of trials, times of battle, testimony of God being in somebody's life and doing things for them in the midst of trials. Let's go over one of them which is and started in Genesis chapter 1 verse 1. It must mean it's pretty
important if that's where it starts. Elohim, Elohim, the creator, the mighty creator. Genesis 1.1. In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. This is before light, before creation was spoken into existence. God created heaven and earth. He spoke darkness into life, amen. These names are not just who you call them, but it defines who they are, who he is. In other words, in some of the Bible, God changed names of people like Abram to Abraham, father of many nations. Simon to Peter. In John chapter 1 verse 42, which means rock, amen. James and John, sons of thunder. That's a cool name to me. You know, getting on my heart, I'm thinking sons of thunder. That's cool, man. Well, these guys rock the world around them for God, amen. Saul, who became Paul. Not a murder of Christians, but a leader of people, a leader of leading people to Christ, amen. Building churches. Elohim or Elohim is God in the plural form. What do you mean by that? Well, it highlights his power, his majesty, and role as creator of the universe. But any word in Hebrew that ends in I am, India Mike, at the end, makes it plural. In other words, cherub is one angel. Cherubim is many angels. Seraph, it's a burning creature. Seraphim is many burning creatures. So Elohim is God had three in one. Now, the Hebrews didn't understand this at first because they couldn't understand how God could be plural. And over time, they saw this, that it became God had three in one. God, his son Jesus, and the Holy Spirit, amen. Well, Elohim is mentioned 35 times in 31 verses in Genesis chapter 1 alone. It's a deliberate description of God who created, who had the power of creation of the sun, the heavens, the earth, of life, amen. Everything God created was good. You might say, oh man, cockroach? That can't be good. God created that? Well, we live in a curse-filled world today.
So everything has not, has been devolved down to a situation due to the curse of man's sins where it's not what it was supposed to be, not what it did. But even cockroaches, they have benefits. I mean, geckos, cute little geckos eat them. Owls, ducks, so they're food for them. But they also help in life cycle of plants because they transport transport pollen for plants. reproduction. But there's some cool things about them. Yeah, I said cool things about a roach. It's because of them scientists are researching applications in the medical field for antibiotics. Because a roach can live through just about anything. So their antibiotics for staph infections, MRSA, things of that nature, are being used to fight some of these germ killers. Amen? Some of these germs. In other words, a roach can be a germ killer for you. What if your little baby has a staph infection and you found out that something that was created that is in a roach and gave scientists wisdom saved that little baby's life. Amen? They're also studying them because of the way they move on how to develop prosthetic and robotic applications, arms, veterans from war that come back. They are learning how to use things from a roach on how to make prosthetic arms to make them have capable quality lives. Amen? Well, 1st Timothy 4.4 in the NSU says, for everything created by God is good and nothing is to be rejected if it is received with gratitude. Satan has twisted everything on this planet. He's tried to corrupt it. Storms, friction, volcanoes from pressure. If you're feeling pressure, stop and seek the Lord. Make a quality decision. Pressure is not of God. So all these pressures of the slates hitting together, of tornadoes that are coming from friction in the air, you know, from creating lightning and thunder, that's not of God. See, when in the Old Testament, when there were storms that came, you'll find out if they were of God, there was no destruction, no damage. We need to follow peace. Amen? Ephesians 2 verse 10 says, for we are His workmanship created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them. If you've been contemplating suicide, listen to this. Amen? You are valuable. God did not
make mistakes. He doesn't make junk. Amen? Oh, your mom and dad may say that you were a mistake, but God was not surprised. He knew you were coming. Okay? I've even heard people say, oh, God put a man in a woman's body. That's why I want to be a transgender. No, that's a lie of Satan to rob you of your true identity of who you are in Christ, your value. That's why so many people that try these things are so confused. They never find answers because they're looking in the wrong places. You know how to tell whether you're a man or a woman? Look at your equipment. Amen? Mm-mm-mm. The parable about the wheat and tares or the weeds and Matthew is about Satan sowing bad seeds, bad thoughts, twisting things. Amen? See, that's all he wants to do is twist, but Elohim is the Godhead three-in-one great God Almighty creator of everything. Glory to God, which means He created you. He came, His goodness to give you life to create you so that you could serve Him, bless Him, that you could have a good life. Amen? El Shaddai, the Lord God Almighty or the all-sufficient word that the word Shaddai, S-H-A-D, means breast or total supply. Think of a baby getting fed by its mother. Total supply, all nutrition, everything that they need is fed from the mother, from the love of the mother. Well, see, God, His word El Shaddai, Shaddai means breast or total supply. Everything you need is in Him. Amen? Genesis chapter 17 one says, When Abram was 99 years old, the Lord appeared to Abram and said to him, I am Almighty God. Walk before me and be blameless. In other words, choose right, choose to do what's right, live righteous, be holy. I didn't say you were perfect. Choose, endeavor to do the right things. Amen? And I will make my covenant between me and you and will multiply you exceedingly. So here we are in Genesis, first book of the Bible, chapter 17, and what's he telling the father of many nations, the father of faith? You walk before me and I'm gonna prosper you. I'm gonna be good to you. I'm gonna multiply you exceedingly great. See, God is a covenant God. When you receive Jesus as your Lord and Savior, you enter into covenant with Him and God does not break covenant. See this word that he calls himself El Shaddai It speaks of God's limitless power and ability to provide for his people. Remember, the Hebrew gods, they had different names of their ability or
where they had power. Oh, I'm the God over light. I'm the God of darkness. We're fighting. Well, which one's gonna win that day? No, I'm gonna serve the God over all that who created it, who's spoken into existence. Amen? See, there's really not a good English equivalent to the word El Shaddai, so we're trying to explain it with multiple words of what it is. Basically, God said at the end of Abraham and Sarah's life, when they were wanting a child, they were at the end of the rope. If you're at the end of the rope, you need to listen to this. God said, I am enough. Tie a knot. Hold on. God will meet you where you are if you turn towards him. Amen? It's not about your ability. It's about God's ability. Abram waited 24 years and tried it his way. Sarah had given Abram her little cute little handmaid servant and said, go sleep with him. The man did. Got off. But at the end of all that, God is faithful. Kept his covenant word and they had a child together. Amen? See, God needs faith in action. Don't try to do it your way. Trust him and do it his way. Amen? Don't quit. Don't give up. Don't create your own path. That's where Ishmael came from. Amen? Patience requires trust and faith to see the goodness of God. God will meet you where you are and bring you up, but you've got to turn towards him. Amen? Don't quit. Go back to where you were. Stir yourself up. Trust God. Expect for him to come in and bring you up and out and live in the goodness. Amen? But that requires faith or trust in God. It requires us to surrender ourselves to him or submit to him. Obey him. Man, our culture does not like this. Submit? I ain't gonna submit to nothing. And you're not gonna have the goodness of God. I'm gonna submit to the Creator. He created me, man. He good. He will help you if you have nothing. He will help you if you've made tremendous mistakes. If you're in prison, if you're a single parent, it doesn't matter what you've done, what mistakes you've done. You turn towards him. Ask for his help. Ask for his mercy. Ask for his forgiveness. And he is faithful to help you. Amen? El Shaddai. Turn to him as he being your total source of supply. Amen? It's about his strength. Amen? El Elyon. The Most High God. The Maker of heaven and earth. It refers to God's omnipotence, his holiness, his gracious nature. Above all else, he is the God Most High. So why serve any of these
other so-called gods? They aren't gods. They're losers. Amen? You know Lot, Abraham's nephew. He messed up, man. He got captured. But Abraham took 318 servants and went against armies and brought him back. The odds were stacked against him. Oh my. But see, he boldly went forth in obedience to God in faith. Trusting God. And that's when El Elyon shows up. You need to trust God if you're in a battle. Amen? Do what he's called you to do. Not fear. You've got to resist fear and trust the Most High God. Amen? When the odds are stacked up against you, that's when you can have a testimony of a miracle. Don't get into pride. Oh, look what I did. Because that will hinder you from the blessings of God. The goodness of God. The grace of God. God gives grace to the humble. Or God gives his ability, which is unfailing, total ability to the humble. Those who turn towards him. If you do this, you're going to have faith like David that took out Goliath. Took out the giant that was trying to stop him. I don't know how these servants, these 318 servants that Abraham had, how they had training. They weren't professional army people. Fighters. Maybe they were taught like karate kid. Wax on, wax off. I don't know. The moral of the story is don't mess with a covenant man. He was in covenant with God. Remember we read that. If you serve me and obey me, I will make an everlasting covenant with you and I will bless you Exceedingly he was in covenant. Don't mess with a covenant man a man who's got a covenant with God. Amen one Genesis 14 18 Melchizedek who's the priest of Salem? He's a high priest. He's a prophet. He brought out communion elements Covenant elements. This is the Old Testament and they're bringing out communion elements that describe the covenant Now Jesus hadn't even been born let alone let alone went to the cross and they brought out Communion elements and he spoke blessings over Abram in Abram. What did he do? He gave a tithe He gave 10% of everything that he had back to God He honored God people say all tithing is not for today. No tithing was before the law During the law and after the law in the Old Testament, it's still for today Give God what is his and read and he will rebuke the devourer In other words, the enemy comes to devour you he comes to take you out to steal from you God will prevent that I didn't say the enemy wouldn't get in a sucker punch
He wouldn't have to pass test and trust God to see his goodness But you will win you will come up and out on top. Amen This is the first mention of tithing in the Bible and it's tied to the blessing It's tied to the goodness. Just think of this El Elyon the Most High God made Abraham rich prospered him Protected him. Amen kept him. He will do the same for you and me as we honor him Tithing is a thing of honor It's a thing of turning towards God saying I trust you. I honor you with everything I have Bringing them the 10th or the first of everything You know Sharon I have a God account and as soon as I get paid 10% plus goes into that account if it's in that account it got money It's been sanctified or set apart as something holy for him It's in there and then I say Lord What do you want me to do this week? You want me to take care of that issue? You want me so towards it and people wonder why oh, man, I'd like to be a part of that But I don't have any money. Well, why not? Partly because you probably aren't tithing you aren't setting it apart And then some people say all the tithe goes to to the my local church every Sunday That's not what the word says. I know some of you are gonna disagree with that I encourage you to find a scripture where the tithe goes to your local church No, the tithe goes to God where he tells you to give it. Amen Oh My goodness to God it is his goodness The God most high that made Abraham rich and he will do that for you and me You say oh, you're one of them rich preachers talking about money No, I'm talking about the goodness of God and what he wants to do for you But if you don't believe it, you don't receive it. It won't happen In your life. Amen What does the word rich mean? Well, it means different things to different people. What's your call?
What do you what you have to deal with? But it's having all sufficiency for all good things that you live in the goodness of God Your needs are met and you can be a blessing to other people. It's not a dollar amount It's quality of life longevity of life the goodness of God the peace of God. Amen Well, this is mike kennedy with living in victory. I call you blessed in the name of jesus Join with me on part 18 We're going to talk more about some of the names of God And who he is and how they apply to his goodness. Amen. Have a blessed day You
