Qué es Salvación? || Victory Church

Very well, good morning, family. We gather the band again. Today, the whole team of Victory is here. Let's welcome Midtown, Hamilton, Mill and Cobb. And our family online, here, next door and around the world. How are you all? I'm excited for today because I'll say it like this. If you've ever felt broken. Maybe even broken beyond repair. If you've ever felt that, maybe. There are things that happened in life a long time ago that are still there. Like unwanted guests at home, today. If you've ever felt that you can't leave a bad habit. Or even if a deep addiction has infiltrated your life. Even after putting all your faith in Jesus. I want to tell you that today is your day, okay? Because today I want to present, or maybe re-present. One of the words that I would call the most misunderstood in the whole Bible. And this is what I believe. If we really understand this word, this idea, this concept, this truth. This revolutionary gift that God wants to give us. I believe that you, even you, could leave here today with a renewed joy. A renewed hope, a renewed vision. Maybe even with a renewed freedom. Come on, someone. I believe it for you. That would not only remain for the rest of the day. But in reality, it would remain for the rest of your life. Well, I believe that this is the gift that God wants to give you today. We are continuing our one-year trip through the book of John. And in fact, we are in John, four times a second week, sitting with Jesus. While he essentially sits with a woman by a well.

And last week we saw several things. But I just want to talk about it quickly. Because maybe it will give a renewed language to us. If you missed it, because you don't want to miss what we talked about last week. In essence, Jesus is traveling from south to north. And he stops in this area called Samaria. And the Jewish men of the time actually surrounded Samaria. Because Samaria was the arch-enemy of the Jews. But instead of surrounding Samaria, Jesus goes to Samaria. Because he needs to meet this complicated woman in this complicated well. And this is what I love about this idea. That instead of avoiding complicated people, Jesus goes to complicated people. So maybe, even right now, this is a reminder that you are not too complicated for Jesus. Come on, tell your neighbor. He is talking about you. Yes, you. Because I know you are quite complicated. And there, in this small town of Samaria, Jesus stops in the well and meets this Samaritan woman. And in fact, we discover quite quickly that in high school, she was chosen as the most likely to always have a boyfriend. Because she has been married five times. And in fact, she is living with a man. Even while she is talking to Jesus, with whom she is not married. And Jesus, in fact, with this ashamed, abused, used, rejected, discarded woman, has the longest conversation recorded in the whole Bible. Why? Because some things simply take time. So maybe today, from the beginning, this is a reminder that Jesus also has time for you. And right there, in that well, Jesus extends his hand to this woman, and essentially invites her to stop going to the well of men to feel satisfied, and instead come to him to be satisfied. Jesus will never ask you to give up something without giving you something better, okay? So maybe today, soon, Jesus could be calling you to give up something. But I promise you this.

If he calls you to give up something today, it is because he has something better that he wants to give you. Everyone say better, quickly. Come on, let me listen to those from Midtown. Okay. Yes, great. In the middle of their conversation in John 4, we skipped this part last week, because we are going to talk about it right now. And right there, in the middle of the conversation, Jesus introduces a key word. Jesus introduces this word that stands out. When I read this, this week, it impacted me. And I believe that this key word could become a gift that could essentially start to revolutionize your life if we really embrace this word that God wants us to unpack today as a gift. And here it is, in John 4, verse 13, Jesus says, Anyone who drinks from the water of this natural well will soon be thirsty again. But those who drink from the water that I give them will never be thirsty again. It becomes a bubbling spring within them that gives them eternal life. And she says, Lord, please, I have to have that water because then I will never be thirsty again. And I will not have to keep coming here to get water. And Jesus says, hey, go and call your husband. He is preparing it. This is not the time to catch her. When we heard this, she said, I don't have a husband. Jesus answered, true, you have had five husbands. It is in essence Jesus. inviting her to be honest. Guys, if you want to move forward with God, you have to take off your mask. That's what this conversation is about. Jesus is saying, let's have a real conversation. So he says, yes, you certainly told the truth. You're not married.

So she says, sir, said the woman, you must be a prophet. I have a question. Now, this is the deal. You see a small change in the conversation with this woman. Here it is really, well, I don't know if you know. I'm a pastor. This is what I really think is happening right here. This woman is like the innumerable people that we find in the vestibules and that I find in the planes and things like that. That when they find out that I'm a pastor, they take out of their pocket that question that they've had all their lives. That's what I'm saying. The sermon was about this. Someone will come today to ask me about the rapture. Oh, you're a pastor, a question? That's what's going on here. She's like, I've had this question. And then she says, basically, the Jews say that we're marginalized because we don't worship in Jerusalem. We come to Mount Gerizim. So where should we worship? And Jesus went straight to the point. He says, believe me, woman, the time will come when it won't matter if you worship the Lord in this mountain or in Jerusalem. Samaritans know very little about whom they worship.

While we, the Jews, know Him well because salvation comes from the Jews. Salvation comes from the Jews. And there's the word. There's the word highlighted in black and color. It's in capital letters, in black, another color. It's the first time we see this word in John's book. It's the word that this woman desperately needed in her life. And it's the word that I think is so tragically misinterpreted in the world of the church and in the culture that surrounds us today. Salvation. Salvation. In Greek, salvation is soteria. If you go to the seminary, you'll study soteriology, which is the study of salvation. But what exactly is salvation? It means to be saved, preserved, rescued, and set free. This means to be saved, preserved, rescued, and totally set free from all evil. Am I in the right church this morning? Is there anyone from the people of God excited to be saved, preserved, rescued, set free? Set free? Come on. Is anyone excited about salvation? Come on. The church I pastor, it's better if it's excited to be saved, preserved, rescued, set free. Come on, man. It never gets old or cold for the people of God the fact that we've been saved. But this is what I think, okay?

That we really don't fully understand that word. Okay? Because here's the question. What is salvation really, right? Beyond those words, could we really describe it to the people around us? I think we're doing a deficient job right now understanding salvation personally and sharing its beauty. Here's the thing. If salvation is that, why does Jesus mention it to this woman? A woman marginalized and rejected by a well. Why is it relevant to her at that moment? And what does it mean to us today? Okay, I'll quickly go through the first two points to get to something very special that I think God will do here today. So, what is salvation? First, salvation is the story of God. If you don't know how all this started, we don't simply float on a rock thousands of millions of years later. No, this is the story of God. And there in the garden, after the original sin, right? Where Adam and Eve rebel against God, turn their backs to God, they want to be God themselves. And so they eat the forbidden fruit

and sin enters the world and death for sin right there. God didn't give up on them. Even in the garden, God gave the first clue to salvation by cursing the serpent, by cursing the devil. In Genesis 3, verse 15, this is what he said to the devil. He said, I will put enmity, which is hostility. In other words, I will create a fight between the devil and the woman, and between your offspring and his. He will crush your head and you will hurt his heel. This is what is happening. This is what God says in the garden. Devil, you and the women are going to fight. That is why, in truth, you pray better than men. I'm telling you, God put it in your bones. God put it in your DNA. That is why you are spiritual warriors. This was put there from the garden. And he says, and now he is speaking prophetically between your offspring and his. In other words,

the son of Eve will one day grow up and crush the head of the devil. Even in the tragedy of original sin in the garden, God does not discard Adam and Eve. In fact, he kills an animal and covers them with his skin. Something dies because of his sin. And then he prophesies that a Messiah will come one day and crush the head of the one who caught them in the slavery of sin. It is the first messianic prophecy, Genesis 3.15. We see, after the garden, everything falls apart. The firstborn kills the second. Evil overflows. God floods the earth. Let us advance in time. God chooses Abraham, through whom he will create a people to tell his story of redemption, the Hebrew people. Abraham has Isaac, and Isaac has Jacob. Jacob has 12 children. And basically, while Jacob exhales his last breaths, he begins to bless his children. And it says this, Genesis 49. 18, it says, Now, let's take this a step further, okay? If soteriya is the Greek word for salvation in the New Testament,

okay? The new is in Greek, and the old in Hebrew. If that is the Greek word, then what is the Hebrew word for the Old Testament? Let's read this one more time. I hope in you, Yahshua, oh Lord. Now, here's the thing. Some of you are already grasping this, others aren't. Does anyone know how we translate the word Yahshua into English? Yahshua, Yahshua is the name we translate as Jesus. The name of Jesus means, the Lord is salvation. God saves Jesus. When you say Jesus, what you are saying is, God saves me. That is what the name of Jesus really means. God is salvation. That is why when the angel comes and announces that Mary is pregnant, it says this in Matthew 1.21. She will give birth to a son, and you will name him Jesus. Why? Because he will save. Why is he called Jesus? Because the name Jesus is Yahshua in Hebrew, which literally means God saves. Why is he called Jesus? Because he saves. His name means God saves. If that action were another word, that would be his name.

But the name of Jesus is Jesus, because Jesus means God saves. God is salvation. That is why when Jesus is in front of the woman in the well, he proclaims once again in John 4.22, salvation comes from the Jews. Why does salvation come from the Jews? Because Jesus comes from the Jews. Well, let's be totally honest. Let's take it out of culture just for a moment. Let's not forget, in this world full of anti-Semitism, at this moment, that Jesus is a Jew. So be careful. Listen, listen. I am not making a political statement. I am making a spiritual statement. According to the Bible, God told Abraham that he will bless those who bless him, and curse those who curse him. Just be careful. That is not political. That is spiritual. So yes, Jesus is God. He is also the Jewish Messiah. He was born in Bethlehem. He was circumcised on the eighth day. He grew up in Nazareth and celebrated Easter. The history of salvation develops through the Old Testament, which is an explicitly Jewish book.

God sends prophets year after year to announce that the Savior is coming, the Redeemer is coming, the Redeemer is coming, the one who saves is coming. Jesus did not appear out of nowhere, simply falling from heaven. When did Jesus appear for the first time? Well, Matthew 1.1. No, Jesus was there from the beginning. From the beginning. He was the light. He was the word. We see this in John 1.1. In the beginning, he was the word. Jesus was there. Before there was a beginning, Jesus was already there. Come on. Jesus is God. Jesus also entered a Jewish context. He came as a result of thousands of years of prophecy, of the promise of a Savior, and lived a perfect life, and died the perfect death, and went to the cross to take our place. He took the death that should have been ours so that we could have the life that was His. On the third day, the stone was removed, breathed the breath of life,

conquered sin, death, hell, and the tomb. He ascended to heaven, lives to intercede for us, and will return to finally save His bride. He comes to save us. So when we repent of our sin and put our faith in the finished work of Jesus Christ, His victory becomes our victory, and God saves us. What are we saved from? We are saved from God's judgment for our sins. Jesus took it for us. We are saved from ourselves. We are saved from the devil. We are saved from judgment. We are saved from death. We are saved now. And the story that God tells from Genesis to the Apocalypse is one of salvation. From the fall in the first garden to the restoration in the last garden. It's a story of salvation. Why? Because our God is the God who saves. He doesn't want even one to perish, but for each person to come to repentance and to the full faith in Jesus Christ. And all this redemptive story revolves and orbits around one man, Yeshua HaMashiach, Jesus, the Christ. The story of God is a story of salvation. That's what it is. The story of God is a story of salvation centered around the man, Jesus Christ. So, what is salvation?

First, salvation is God. Second, salvation is eternal life. I will pause for a moment because this sermon has been preached a thousand times, and it must be so. Well, because God has placed eternity in the human heart. Every person you have seen will always exist. Even those who bother you. Death is not the end for anyone. Perhaps you already know, this is the bad news. If you are only born once, you die twice. But if you are born twice, you only die once. If you are only born in flesh, but you are still dead in spirit, without being born again in spirit, you will die in flesh and in spirit. In eternal hell, punished for your faults, living the life you desired. But if you are born twice, in flesh and in spirit, you will only die physically, but you will live. You will live forever in the presence of God, eternally. And here are three scriptures. I'm going to read them to you like a blast. Romans 6, verse 23. For the payment of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life. Eternal life. How? In Jesus Christ. Yeshua HaMashiach, because He is the Savior. In John 11, Jesus is talking to Martha and says, I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me will live, even after death. Everyone who lives in me and believes in me will never die. Do you believe this?

Let's go, 2 Corinthians 5. Because we know that when our earthly dwelling is taken away, we will have a house in heaven, an eternal body made by God and not by human hands. Friends, this is the good news. For Jesus, we are saved to be with God forever. When we close our eyes here on earth, we open them forever in His presence. Abandoning the body is being with the Lord, and everything improves for His people. Good news today. This earth is the closest to hell you will be. That's all. It only improves for the people of God. So death is not the end, and Christians should not fear it. Mother Teresa said, Death is nothing more than going home to God. The bond of love will never be broken for all eternity. And friends, let's celebrate that. That changes everything, okay? But this is what I really want to say today. There is a big problem with everything I have mentioned. For most of us, in every campus I go to, for most of us, salvation as eternal life is our only understanding of salvation. So let me say this. Salvation is the history of God. Salvation is eternal life. But here is the third thing. Salvation is also now.

Salvation is today. Today is the day of salvation. And this is where I really want to stop for a while, okay? Because our biggest problem, I think our biggest problem today, is that we misinterpret salvation. How do we misinterpret salvation? Because we think salvation is only for heaven. Why do I think that? Well, first, it's in the conversation. But second, if you asked anyone in the culture that the only thing they know about Christianity is for us and for the message we transmit, what is salvation? And if they had any idea of what they are talking about, they would say something like this. We sin. Jesus died on the cross. And this is how we go to heaven. Okay, right? In other words, I am bad. Jesus is good. He lives. Right? That is salvation. That could live, right? Here is the problem with that. That has nothing to do with my life today. That is only one day. That is only one day. Thank God for that. What would we do without Jesus?

I mean, where would we be if it weren't for eternal life? We would be condemned, right? But if he is only out there, what motivation do I have to enter salvation today? Come on, guys. I'm going to give you the secret trick. If that is the truth, just wait until just before you die. And pray a little prayer. Jesus, Jesus, Jesus, I'm sorry I didn't love you at all. I still don't love you, but I'm going to pray this prayer right here. And then you come in and say, and the angel says, Damn, I decipher the code. He had his salvation at the last moment. Okay, the problem is that those who plan a last-minute salvation die at 10.59. Okay, that is a problem. That is a problem. Okay? You don't have another breath guaranteed. Okay? I think that's it. We superficially understand salvation, it is noticeable that we live like everyone else. But we Christians are not perfect, we are forgiven, so I will go to heaven. There is this idea of a very far-fetched salvation, I will tell you this, yes, there is an essence. Well, we are bad, Jesus is good, let's go to heaven? Ah well, in a way, yes.

I think a better way to talk about salvation would actually be this, okay? Jesus is the Lord. The kingdom of God is here. We are being transformed today. Which of these starts to excite you? Which of these really impacts the present? I think this is actually more precise than what Scripture would really say, that Jesus is the Lord. The kingdom of God is here. And now you are being actively transformed to the image of Jesus, day after day, by the power of the Holy Spirit. In a few weeks we will see John 5, verse 24, Jesus says, Those who truly hear my message and believe in God who sent me, have eternal life. Yes, they will not be condemned. Everyone say, yes, you have gone from death to life. Guys, good news. If you have been born again, if you have put your faith in Jesus Christ, it is not that you are dead now and that one day you will have eternal life. No, eternal life, you already have it, you already have eternal life. You have gone from death to life. You have come out of the grave forever. You are alive eternally. This means that eternal life does not start that day. It starts today. It has already happened. So maybe, let me give you a different language, okay? What this means is that receiving Jesus is the end and the beginning of a journey. Receiving Jesus is the end and the beginning of a journey. This is what I want to say.

It is the end of the journey. It means that by trusting in Jesus, you are already totally saved. I know that the most religious believe that they can become more saved. That is impossible. It is not that you obtain extra insignia, like the Boy Scouts, to reach heaven. They would say, you look like a general up there. The angels would say, yes, sir, but you were saved by grace, by faith, not by works, so that no one would be glorified. If we added something to the salvation of Jesus, we would boast. And some of us think it is good. You are the most saved. Once you say yes to Jesus, you are as saved as the one who accepted Jesus five minutes ago, even if it was 50 years ago. We simply cannot add or remove anything from the work of Jesus on the cross. The salvation is already yours. That is the end of that journey. You are saved. That and moreover, God is just beginning to make you a new person. You will become, day after day, in whom God, who began a good work in you, is faithful to carry it out until it is completed in the day of Christ Jesus. Okay, that is the end and the beginning of a journey. That is salvation for us. Let me go over this quickly, okay? Does it mean that he has justified us? Okay? What does that mean? Because I have said yes to the finished work of Jesus in my life. It is exactly as if I had never sinned. It is in the moment of salvation, this language of justification. It is a question.

It is a language like a courtroom. What this means is that when I said yes to Christ, God, the heavenly judge, struck his staff with force and said, Innocent. He declared you not guilty by the blood of Jesus. And now the Father no longer sees you as someone guilty. Guilty. In reality, he sees you with the justice of Christ imputed to your life. You have a mantle of justice for which you did not pay. Jesus paid for it and then gave you what was yours. You have been justified before the Father. He also sanctifies us. Sanctified means that you have been made pure, clean, and holy before the eyes of God. And now you are set aside to live in a different way from how you lived before. It also means that he regenerates us. Which means that you have been born again. You have gone from death to life. You have gained life from within. This means that you have not only been forgiven, but that you are a new creation. He reconciles us, which means that we have been restored to the relationship with the Father. He adopts us. God has put his Spirit within us, which he calls Abba, Father. Which means that if you are born again and you say, Dad, you are not a hypocrite. Because in reality you are. You are not an orphan. You have never been alone. You have a Father in God. You are a family in this church and you will never again be abandoned in your life. He sets us free.

The power of the devil has been broken. In your life you no longer belong to him. Why? Because Jesus crushed his head, broke the chains, and set you free. And he has redeemed us, which means that our old way of life, which was worthless, is now dead. ¿Por qué? Porque redimir significa devolverle el valor a algo. This is what I'm going to say. If today you feel broken beyond all repair, God is here to heal you. Because the damage and the defects are not for your shame. Listen, the damage and the defects actually become your story. And some of you need to start sharing your damage and your defects, of how God has healed you and has reunited you. TODAY, GOD IS HERE TO HEAL YOU So that we can start breaking down the idea that salvation is only eternal life. Praise be to God who is. But it's also now... And guys, this is this. Let's go back to that. This is this. This is what the woman in the well was looking for. Why does Jesus talk about salvation to this woman? Salvation is only eternal life? Even if it sounds strong, listen. Her question in the well that day was not, Jesus, will I go to heaven? Her question was, Jesus, can I get my life back? Could God somehow rebuild me again? Because I'm broken without remedy. I was used by five men, and now I live with someone who doesn't love me so much to put a ring on my finger. Am I even worthy of being loved? Could you somehow rebuild me again?

Listen, this is what I love. Jesus is not saying that to her that day. Listen, this is how we would say it, this is how we would tell the world. He would say, hey, lady, cheer up. No one loves you here, but one day in heaven, you will finally be loved. Oh God. This is what Jesus is saying. Hey, can I sleep with you? Can I make you be complete again? Can I join the pieces of your life? I know, I know, I know. Everything seems destroyed. I know that everything seems scattered, like a puzzle of a billion pieces without the image of the box. I know, I know, but I've numbered all those pieces. I know you better than you know yourself, and I can put you back together. At the beginning of our marriage, Summer and I went through a certain stage in which we disagreed out loud because Christians don't fight. And she told this story up here. I'm not exposing her, okay? But this stage was so, so crucial in our lives. It literally changed our lives. And so we kept having the same fight over and over and over again, right?

And normally it sounded more or less like this. If I reduce it to a simpler language. She said something like, you're just not meeting my needs. Okay, now, ladies, stop hitting your husband right now because we're going to talk about this. And she said something along those lines. You don't love me enough. You don't do this or that. And I thought, well, probably not. But I also thought, well, something must be wrong with me because I'm giving everything I have, right? This is only after a few years of marriage, but somehow it's still not enough, right? We had that discussion. I encourage each of you who are married. Try to overcome it, but if you can't do it alone, look for an external voice. We sat down with a counselor and he gave us the best marital advice we've ever received. He changed our lives and changed his marriage. And this is what he said. He said, Summer, do you have any holes in your bucket? You didn't receive affection. You became addicted. And now you don't accept your son. This has to stop now. And it stops when you receive inner health. How do you repair the gaps in the bucket?

You need inner health. And that's the beautiful thing. That's not something additional to salvation. That's salvation. Jesus restoring the parts of your life that are broken. That's how I would say it. It's okay to be broken. It's just not okay to be broken. This is a safe place to be broken, friends. But listen. If you just keep ignoring it for 30 years, I think God feels disappointed in you. Maybe not in you, but in you. You have so much freedom available to you. Why wouldn't you want to take all that God has for you? So here's the question. I'm going to spend one more minute here. How does Jesus begin to heal us? Technically, these are corrective life experiences. What do you read? Yes. Corrective life experiences, this is what it means. God wants to give you life experiences with him that correct those broken ones you've already had. This is what I mean. You need to sit with God. You need to surround yourself with a community of faith. You need to be in environments like this. You need to raise your hands in worship, whatever it is for you.
