Part 8- Good, Submitted & Living So the Word Is Not Blasphemed

Welcome back everybody. We are in part eight of the Woman of the Word series. You made it, you made it to part eight and I just cannot wait to hear about the transformation and the growth and what you've learned and what God has taught you with this series. I'm just so excited about every single thing that we spoke about and we are in Titus chapter two verse three to five and we know it likewise the older woman likewise that they be reverent in behavior not slanderers not giving too much wine teachers of good things that they admonish the young woman to love their husbands to love their children to be discreet chaste homemakers and this is the part we're talking about today part eight obedient to their own husbands so that the word of God may not be blasphemed and that's the real reason why we're a woman of the word is so that the word of God may not be blasphemed and in part one we spoke about being reverent in behavior part two not slanderers part three not giving too much wine part four teachers of good things part five that they admonish the young woman part six to love their husbands and children part seven to be discreet chaste and homemakers in part seven we talked about being all those three things to be a keeper of their home and a woman who is governed from the inside out and who guards the atmosphere of her home with the wisdom of peace of God and today we're going to talk about the final part and what closes this entire teaching what Paul closes with is both the last set of qualities and the reason behind all of them and it's to be good obedient to their own husbands that the word of God may not be blasphemed and you will find this titus chapter 2 verse 5 and this is what this means the greek word is agathos that's what we're looking for that's the greek word for good agathos it means not performing goodness when people are watching it means intrinsic goodness the kind of good that flows from who you are your nature and not from what you want people to think about it is kindness that costs something it's not just being kind but kindness that costs something in you the spirit trains us to give without calculating return to serve without needing recognition that is the kindness that costs something that Paul is talking about that type of good the Jesus type of good now no one could be like Jesus but we have the spirit of the living God residing inside of us and he can teach us how to be this type of good this type of good that costs us something that when we do something nice for someone we're not waiting to get something back in return that when we are doing something good we're not waiting to be recognized that we know that God already recognizes us right when you're serving in your local church that you're not waiting for the pastor the leader of the church to see you because you want to be recognized but you know

Jesus God is watching you and I want to talk about the next part of part a where it says for them to submit to their own husbands and the greek word for that is hypotasso okay this is what it means means to submit but the word literally means to arrange under for the purpose of harmony the greek word right hypotasso means to submit but the definition of it is to means to arrange under for the purpose of harmony I want to give you an example of this I want to give you a visualization of this to arrange to arrange for her so you have a husband and you have a wife right let's say you have a table and imagine this the table is the wife and you have a vase a glass vase with flowers both of them have a job to do in a room the job of the table is to keep the vase up the job of the vase is to make the room look beautiful now if I went and took the table away the glass vase will fall and break and now the glass vase is not doing its job you my friend are the table you woman of the word are the table your husband is the flower pot your husband has a job to do in this house but because you are not submitting you're not allowing yourself to be arranged under that flower pot you want to be removed from under that flower pot now the flower pot has fallen do you see how much influence you have on what your husband's position in the body of Christ is to do how much influence you have on your husband's position in the kingdom of God to do when you decide you are the table you were arranged under the flower pot for the purpose of harmony for the Lord this is not forced compliance when you submit. It is voluntary cooperation rooted in trust. It mirrors the way Jesus submitted to the Father not from weakness but from love and from trust in God's order not from weakness from love trust in God's order and then Paul gives us the reason for all of it that the Word of God may not be blasphemed that's the reason why we want to be a woman of the Word. Why do you want to be a woman of the Word you ask? So that the Word of God may not be blasphemed. The Greek word for it is blasphemio that's the Greek word for blasphemed to discredit to slander. You want to be a woman of the Word so that the Word of God is not discredited and not being slandered by your actions by the way that you talk by the way that you walk by the way that you dress by the way that you carry yourself by the way that you worship the Lord by the way that you love your husbands by the way that you delight in children by the way that you teach other women. You do not want the word to be discredited or slandered. Paul

is saying your life is a translation of Scripture. When women walk in these virtues not perfectly but genuinely and consistently the gospel gains credibility. You are teaching the gospel through being a woman of the Word. A woman of the Word is a woman who carries the gospel. So many women are wondering how can I preach the gospel if I'm with children in my house all the time? How can I preach the gospel if I'm not out in the field like my husband? It's to be a woman of the Word because when you're a woman of the Word you are literally portraying the gospel. You are keeping the gospel. The gospel is gaining credibility through you becoming a woman of the Word and not a woman of the world. The world sees something they cannot explain and they begin to ask questions because they don't understand how you're operating the way that you are. Think about the widow with the two mites in Luke chapter 21. Jesus watched as the rich put large offerings into the treasury. This widow then dropped two small coins. Everything she had that was the only thing she had and Jesus said in Luke chapter 21 verse 3 to 4 truly I say to you that this poor widow has put in more than all for all these out of their abundance have put in offerings for God but she out of her poverty put in all the livelihood that she had. She was not performing for an audience. She was not calculating that she would get in return. She was not thinking I'm gonna get this in return because I'm giving my last two cents. She gave from the inside out. Jesus saw her when no one else did. That is agathos. That is the goodness of God. That is the woman of the Word. You want to be that good. You want to be agathos like the widow who gave her very last without waiting for something in return. She wasn't thinking God's gonna give me this because I'm doing this. She wasn't doing it for performance. You don't want to act good for performance. You don't want to submit for performance. Do not submit for performance but submit for harmony in God's kingdom. You are no longer part of the world anymore. You do not have to act like you're this humble person who submits to her husband but yet at home you're a different person. You actually want to embody a woman who submits to her own husbands so that the Word of God may not be blasphemed because a woman of the Word submits to

the Word of God. So when you can submit to the Word of God you will also be able to submit to your own husbands. A woman who does this serves unseen and rejoices when others succeed. You do not become bitter when others succeed. You rejoice when others succeed. She supports unity through respect and prayerful dialogue with her husband. She lives so consistently in the grace of God that even those who do not believe cannot deny that something in her is different. That is how you preach the gospel. That when they see you they can't believe that something in you is different. What is what is different about this woman? A woman who does not do this withdraws kindness when she goes unnoticed or is unthinked. When she's not thanked for something she withdraws being kind. She uses manipulation or silent resentment to get what she wants for her husband and she preaches loudly about what others should do while living carelessly herself. And that is not the type of woman you want to be because when you live carelessly for yourself the Word of God will most definitely be blasphemed and that is not preaching the gospel. That is not giving credibility to the Word of God. And this is the question the final question I want you to take away. Would someone reading my life believe that God is good? Would someone reading your life everything that you do in your life as a believer as a woman in the body of Christ believe that God is good? And I want to leave you with this prayer. Lord, I thank you that every single person that's watching Lord has learned how to be a woman of the word. I thank you that they did not take this as a checklist. They did not use this Lord God as condemnation or things that they're not doing right, but they use it as encouragement. Jesus, let their life be a clear translation of your word. Let their goodness be the kind that cause something that keeps going. Even when no one is watching, teach them the strength that comes from surrender to trust your, your order enough to walk in it with peace and not resentment of their husband. Lord,

let the watching of the world see something in them that they cannot explain that people can't explain and let them lead people straight to you straight to the gospel. Lord God, their life is going to give credibility to the gospel of Jesus Christ and their becoming and they are a woman of the word the way you created them to be. God bless you in Jesus name.
