oye, ¿sabes qué? Quiero seguir a Jesús todos los días de mi vida. El pasado fin de semana, casi 900 personas renovaron formalmente su compromiso de ser discípulos y el seguir a Jesús. Es tan hermoso pensar en el cambio de vida que ha ocurrido aquí en los últimos 7 días. Pero estoy aquí para decirles, Iglesia Victoria, que se adaptarán. Comenzó. Y es precisamente por ese motivo que les ruego encarecidamente que no dejen pasar esta extraña y rara oportunidad de renacimiento que se nos presenta ahora mismo en esta casa. Estamos en medio de una serie de pasajes del libro de Juan. Tendrá una duración de 17 años. Y estoy muy feliz por eso. Porque entregué mi vida a Jesús cuando tenía 17 años. Y recuerdo bien 1993. Yo estaba en mi último año de secundaria. Estoy rodeado de un grupo de personas que son relativamente nuevas en mi entorno y que todas tenían esto en común. Todos estaban fascinados con ese hombre llamado Jesús. Me resultó confuso. No fue mi educación, no era mi pasado. No me resultaba lógico,

pero había algo en su amor por ese Jesús que resultaba extrañamente atractivo. Así que me encontré pasando el tiempo con ese grupo. Y finalmente, una noche, sentí el amor de Dios derramarse sobre mi pecho como un balde de lava. Y eso me transformó en ese mismo instante. Y lo primero que sucedió después de entregar mi vida a Jesús a los 17 fue que el amable pastor de jóvenes puso una Biblia en mis manos. Solíamos regalar Biblias grandes allá por 1993. Hoy en día, por la inflación y el precio de los recursos, lo que te dan es una edición de bolsillo bastante endeble. Pero a mí no. And they gave me this same Bible. I found it just this week. You see, I found this one, which is the first Bible they gave me in my life. An edition of the study of Tapa Dura, NIV, from the year 1984. I asked my young pastor, what do I do with this Bible? He said, read it. And what should I read? He said, the book of John. So the first thing I read as soon as they gave me my first Bible was precisely the book of John in this same Bible. And that transformed my life forever. My heart is filled with joy when I think that there are people in this place who began their journey with Jesus last week and who are now going through the book of John. And maybe, in 33 years, you will be looking at the same words that began to transform your life, even at this stage.

This week, my task is to continue this series in the third chapter of this book of John. I will be looking at the verses from 1 to 15. If you have your Bible, will you accompany me to John chapter 3, verse 1? Next week, Pastor Johnson will continue with this, perhaps with the most famous verse in all of the Holy Scripture, John 3.16. But this week, we will look at the precursor, the verses from 1 to 15. John chapter 3 follows the chapters 1 and 2 of John. This is not profound or theological, it is basic mathematics. John chapter 1 begins with an introduction from the heart of God about His Son. This is Jesus, who is the Word, who was with God in the beginning. He is God forever, and this Word would make His dwelling among us. Our God is not a distant, indifferent, apathetic God before our situation. He is the God who entered time and space. And He is life, and He is light. Speaking to death and making it go back. Speaking to darkness and making it go back. This is Jesus breaking into the scene. John chapter 1 continues with John the Baptist, the prophet prophesied. The one who would come before the Messiah, pointing to Jesus. He is the promise that is being fulfilled. He is the main character of this great and glorious story. If you seek life, He is the answer. If you seek hope, He is the answer. If you seek the path to follow, He is the answer, and only He is. John chapter 1 ends with Jesus calling His disciples. Men and women, to join Him in a mission. To announce good news. To preach the Gospel. To bring life and light to the darkest and deadliest places in the world.

John chapter 2 begins with a scene. Jesus and His friends spending time at a wedding. They are gathered there. The time of Jesus to begin His ministry was about to begin. There was a problem. The wine was finished. But the ceremonial tins would be taken to Jesus, full of water. And He would turn the water into wine. But do not be mistaken. That was much more than a simple party trick. This was Jesus declaring that I have command and control over all natural things on earth. Everything you see with your own eyes, I control with my deity and my absolute sovereignty. I can speak to water and completely change its substance. I can speak to cancer and make it decrease. I can speak to blindness and the eyes can open. I can speak to depression and the cloud can dissipate. I can speak to anxiety and peace can become your story. All things on earth are under the control of this King. And do not lose sight of the meaning of turning water into wine. Because now Jesus is declaring that He is the new wine. He is the new covenant. What you could not satisfy before is now at stake. A new wine that can satisfy our souls. And then He would go from this wedding to the temple. A religious order established by God. With the original intention of creating a connection between heaven and earth. But through legalism, religiosity. The pride and time, instead of becoming a path of return to the Father God, became a blockage that kept people away from God. But Jesus was not going to allow it.

And he would literally turn to a table declaring, I have come to transform all that is wrong into something right. To completely eliminate that great insurmountable obstacle. To open a door that was completely closed and locked. This is precisely the Jesus that we see at the end of John, chapter 2. And then we get to the Gospel of John, chapter 3, verses 1 to 15, where Jesus has an interesting conversation with a man named Nicodemus. As we will read, Nicodemus was a recognized leader within the pharisee movement. The pharisees were the guardians of the law, the most religious among the religious. The elite of the doers of good, who felt that it was their responsibility to keep the Israelites pure and aligned with God. But how far they had fallen, how far they had deviated. And you will see that Nicodemus approaches Jesus during the night to ask him several questions about his faith. Although he was religious, his heart was hard, his mind was closed. He could not deny that there was something in him, this Jesus. There was a weight, there was a love, there was a power, there was a compassion, there was an authority in him that was profoundly and extremely attractive. And Nicodemus went to see Jesus in the middle of the night to ask him questions. You know it's okay to ask Jesus questions. There are people here this afternoon who are full of fear. You can ask them your questions. There are people here in this room right now whose lives are marked by doubt. He is not insecure. He can handle your questions. There are cynics in this room. Even right now, while you logically refute the points I am presenting to you, I am here to tell you. I am very glad that you are in this room right now. And even if you are cynical about everything related to Jesus, He welcomes your questions.

That is what we see here in Nicodemus. And what happens is that while Nicodemus asks questions about who Jesus is, what he has come to do, what is the peculiar message that this Rabbi brings, Jesus, for the first time in the book of John, exposes the glorious gospel. The word gospel is simply a beautiful and ancient word. That means the good news. This is the macro message of the Bible. And it is so beautiful to immerse yourself in these verses again and with freshness. Because it is so important for us as a community of faith to return again and again to these glorious good news. It does not matter how many buildings we build, how many thousands we gather, how many songs we write. It does not matter if we become the most famous church on earth. Unless all our work is centered on these glorious good news that Jesus came to deliver, everything will be in vain. But if we as a community could, with constant fidelity, proclaim these glorious good news to your family, your friends, your co-workers, your neighbors, your children, your daughters, and your parents. Everyone around you will see the light. And with that light there is hope. It is so important that we speak continuously of the good news. Everyone say good news. There are people in this place who love Jesus. If you love Jesus, shout with joy. If you want to share the good news with the people around you. I tell you that to share the good news, it must be in your mind and heart. If the gospel is fixed in your mind and heart,

it will flow naturally through your lips. Think about it. When something is really good in your heart, you can't keep it to yourself. That's why if you have a good secret news, don't tell me. I'm going to tell everyone. And I'm sure it will come out one Sunday morning through a microphone. Do you understand? I can't keep the good news. I remember when my future son-in-law, my daughter, marries in June. And when my future son-in-law is not well. Well, it's terrible. It feels like I'm in the movie, Searching for the Implacable. I'm losing my daughter and I'm also paying the bill. I remember when the young Titus came and asked me for my daughter's hand, asking me to keep it a secret because she had to prepare for a month. Now you have to prepare a lot to propose to her, you know? With Pastor Johnson it wasn't like that. In my time, asking the question was easier. Do you know what I mean? Pastor Johnson, dear Pastor Sommer, this is the situation. I'll take her to a quiet place. I'll kneel and give her a ring bought with my father's money. It's easy. But today, young people have a lot of pressure on them. There has to be a destination involved, some kind of transport, like a helicopter. The boy has to take out a guitar and sing a song that he himself wrote. The boy didn't even play the guitar before his marriage proposal. The boy learned to play the guitar and composed a song when proposing to her with a ring, much more than he could afford.

Both families come out of nowhere. They must take communion together. I mean, it's a whole event. So Titus had a month between asking for permission and asking my daughter's question. Caitlyn, that almost kills me, family. I'm telling you for real. Every time I saw my daughter knowing what was about to happen, I was like... She thought I was going crazy. Because that's how you get when you know good news that would transform another person. If you really want to enter into an evangelical grace, if you want to see that these beautiful days of revival become salvation for the people around you, just make sure that the good news that you were immersed in last weekend that Easter, continue to be good in your heart. Come on, we have to go back to the good news. Do you know why? Because good news can turn into bad news very quickly. Have you felt that before? Something that has ever been so good. After so long, it gets boring. You were there and you did it. You already know it well. When I used to travel from Australia to the United States to preach, I would always make a condition. That the first place I would eat, a wonderful establishment, mainly here in the South, as soon as I landed the plane, I needed to go to a Cracker Barrel.

At ten o'clock at night, or at nine o'clock at night, I would go straight to a Cracker Barrel. Do you know why? Because I love those biscuits. Fluffy biscuits. And you may not know it, but Cracker Barrel has something called Apple Butter. Well, Apple Butter is amazing. Okay, let me tell you. It's not that it's weird, I'm just telling you. Apple Butter is amazing. Apple Butter is good. Apple Butter is basically the United States taking something fundamentally healthy, like an apple, and turning it into a liquid form of diabetes. So good. Many of my first nights in the United States I would fall asleep in hotels with crumbs of biscuits on my chest. With the stained face of Apple Butter. When I arrived in 2017, those three months, I only ate at Cracker Barrel. I was at Cracker Barrel a couple of weeks ago. I didn't even touch the biscuit. Do you know why? I've been close enough to that.

I've eaten enough. I got used to something so beautiful. Now the biscuit is still fluffy. That Apple Butter is still so good. But I've been close enough to that. No matter how strange it sounds, that's what happens with the Gospel. That thing that left you breathless last weekend. For the first time, I'm telling you, if you're not careful, in a year, you'll hear that same message. And it won't even make your heart beat faster. We have to fight that and make sure that good news never becomes old news. That these good news, come on, keep being good news. Amen? Come on. We have to go back to these words of Jesus in the third chapter of John. Because not only good news becomes old news. Good news can become false news. If it's enough,

if people keep telling the same story over and over again, at some point, it changes. Do you remember that game you used to play in elementary school, Telefono Descompuesto? In Australia, that same game was called Chinese Whispers. It was pretty racist. But if we played Telefono Descompuesto, starting on this same side, and we followed the whole line, the final message would change. Especially if we started with Brother Jerry. Because I'm telling you, I love your Latin accent, brother. But every time I whisper it in your ear, the first time you whisper it, you know what I mean. It's like, I just love being here in Victory. I love being here in Victory. And then it goes to, and from there it goes to... And that happens to the Gospel. People take their own interpretation, their inclinations, their prejudices, they add their own twist, their own flavor. And then before you can even realize it, you find something that is completely far from the original. So what do we do?

We go back to the original and to the words of Jesus while he himself explains this glorious Gospel. Good news. Can anyone say a good amen to that? So what we're going to do is read John chapter 3, from 1 to 15, and then we'll do some observations together about what Jesus is saying, since for the first time he exposes and explains the glorious good news. John chapter 3, verse 1, the Bible says, Now there was a man of the Pharisees called Nicodemus. I can't believe this. It impacts me every time. I'm still here reading and preaching from the same Bible that they gave me with love that unforgettable Sunday night. Thirty-three years ago, this important man called Nicodemus, a member of the Jewish Council of Governors, he came to Jesus at night and said, Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher who has come from God because no one could do the miraculous signs that you do if God was not with him. In response, Jesus said, I assure you that no one can see the kingdom of God if it is not born again. How can a man be born when he is old? Nicodemus asked. Can he enter his mother's womb for the second time and be born?

Jesus replied, I assure you that no one can enter the kingdom of God if it is not born of water and of the Spirit. What is born of flesh is flesh, but what is born of the Spirit is the Spirit. Do not be surprised that I have told you that they have to be born again. The wind blows wherever it wants. You hear its sound, but you do not know where it comes from or where it goes. This is how it happens with everything that is born of the Spirit. How can this be? Nicodemus asked. Jesus said, Are you a teacher of Israel? And you do not understand these things. I assure you that it is true. We speak of what we know and give testimony of what we have seen, but even so, you do not accept our testimony. I have spoken to you of earthly things and you do not believe. How can you believe if I speak to you of the heavenly things? No one has ever ascended to heaven but he who descended from heaven, the Son of Man. Just as Moses raised the serpent in the desert, the Son of Man must also be raised so that all who believe in Him may have eternal life. What is happening here? There are three parts in this discourse, three elements of the Gospel that Jesus is presenting in the most beautiful and amazing way.

And what I love to do in my remaining 21 minutes and 32 seconds with you is to highlight this again and in a fresh way what Jesus did when he had for the first time the opportunity to expose this glorious Gospel. To this man, Nicodemus, the truth that was spoken 2000 years ago still resonates in this moment. The nuance, the angles, the tones and nuances of the Gospel should continue to shape our way of telling it today. So what is the glorious Gospel? If you are taking notes, could you write that in your notes? What is the good news? If you are taking notes, take out your leather notebooks and pens right now. Write something down. You don't have to take notes again, for God's sake. I say, why take a risk? Go to the end. It's like an open exam. Do you know what I mean? I'm just kidding. It's not true at all. It's not true. But write down some things to review later. Where are my iPad and iPhone users? Give thanks to the Lord for Steve. Jobs says, do it. What a great technology. Where are the users of Samsung and Google? Save it. I have nothing for you. And your friends, because you ruin our group chat with your invasive energy of green bubble. Do you know what I mean? I'm just kidding. You can also write down some things.

Here are the distinctive characteristics of good news. First and foremost, you must be born again. That's what he declares there in verse 3. Let me tell you about the Gospel I've come to bring. It's about being born again. And the reason why it's so important from the beginning that Jesus establishes this distinction is because it goes directly against all error or notion that had kept people captive for so many generations and that even today continues to keep people captive. Because the main thought 2000 years ago and the main thought with which I find myself even here in 2026 is that the Gospel is mainly about how bad people make more effort to be good. Here you have a lot of things that you've done wrong. This is what you have to do now to fix it. And if you do this, enough time, God in heaven, who watches you with an angry gaze and a lightning bolt in his hand, will give you a pass and let you enter heaven. But only if you do enough things, right? And that wrong thought has stopped so many people for so many years from entering a life based on grace, marked by mercy. A friendship with the God of this universe. And Jesus transforms everything by firmly declaring that the only way to progress towards a new life is that you must be born again. Nicodemus says that that doesn't make sense.

How can a man go back into the mother's womb and be born again? And Jesus smiles bitterly and says, You know what? This doesn't make any sense. It's just not within your human capacity to get it. But here I am. You must be born again. The Gospel is not about bad people trying to do good. It's about dead people coming back to life. Those are good news. I was dead. And then he breathed his breath of life upon me. And so I was fully revived. I'm going to tell a very graphic story right now. So if you get easily upset, cover your ears. I told this story last night. I told this story in the first service. I'm going to tell it again because I think it illustrates this reality beautifully. But again, especially when it's about puppies, dogs, pets, and all those kinds of things. If you're apprehensive, cover your ears. At the beginning of the year, I was in New York preaching at a friend's church. After the service, I was behind the stage with part of the staff and an intern. The main pastor asked an intern to tell me a story about something that had happened to him that week. Here's the story.

This young woman, this intern in New York City, was taking care of the apartment of a family that spends the winter in Florida. So she had a big situation. She had an apartment right there in the center of Manhattan with a direct view to Fifth Avenue and Broadway. A beautiful place. All she had to do was take care of this family's old man, Golden Retriever. And as clear as the sound of a phone ringing in a quiet room, it was very evident that one morning something was wrong with this Golden Retriever. He had died peacefully while he was sleeping. So now we have a problem. We have a 20-year-old intern with a 40-pound dog in this apartment. What do I do with this dog? So she calls the family. Obviously, they're devastated, but in a way, they didn't expect this to happen at some point. It was an old dog. So they said, what you have to do is take this dog to a veterinarian with whom you've worked before, and the veterinarian will take care of the dog's body from there. So how do you do that? eso. Eso es quien soy. Solo soy alguien que anda por ahí con ropa de diseñador falsa y la muerte por dentro. Y entonces Jesús aparece y habló a las partes muertas de mi vida y volví a la vida. Jesús ha resucitado y en verdad ha resucitado y sigue vivo hoy. Y esto, amigos míos, es la base de una muy buena noticia. No eres una buena persona ahora tratando de ser mejor. Ahora eres una persona muerta. Esto es una muy buena noticia. La segunda parte de la buena noticia que Jesús explica en el tercer capítulo del libro de Juan es la siguiente. No solamente es necesario que vuelvas a nacer de nuevo, sino que ahora el Espíritu Santo va a transformar tu vida. De hecho, el Evangelio trata fundamentalmente sobre la transformación completa por el Espíritu Santo. Una de las experiencias más profundamente tristes que tengo como pastor es orar con personas. En el momento en que entregan su vida a Jesús, comienzan a seguirlo. Y después tener que verlas tan solo una semana después. Es una de las cosas más desgarradoras que experimentarás en el ministerio. Personas que responden a la gracia de Dios, pero que nunca creen verdaderamente en el poder transformador que tiene el Espíritu Santo para cambiar todo en tu vida. Algunas personas piensan que el Evangelio se trata solo de una oración que haces, una línea que cruzas, una mano que levantas, un formulario que llenas.

Pero el Evangelio es mucho más que eso, amigos míos. Se trata de cruzar una línea hacia una vida completamente nueva y eterna. Y la única manera de entrar en esta vida eterna es la sumisión total y absoluta al poder y la persona del Espíritu Santo. Y eso es lo que Jesús presenta aquí en Juan capítulo 3. Él te está haciendo saber que la carne da a luz carne, pero el Espíritu da a luz Espíritu. Y el Espíritu sopla libremente donde quiere, va hacia donde Él desea. Es misterioso, pero está obrando, está obrando en el corazón de cada creyente. Y estoy aquí para decirte hoy que el Evangelio no solo te salva, el Evangelio tiene el poder de liberarte, poner tus pies sobre tierra firme, darte un futuro completamente nuevo, un futuro completamente nuevo. Esto, amigos míos, es el Evangelio. Buenas noticias. No se trata solo de salir del infierno y entrar al cielo. Se trata de salir de esa situación resbaladiza y fangosa y ahora tener tus pies puestos sobre tierra firme, donde avanzas hacia todo lo bueno que Dios tiene para ti. Como predicó el Pastor Johnson el fin de semana pasado entre el Simón y el Pedro, el que tú entres en la plenitud de Dios tiene menos que ver con esforzarte más y más que ver con. It doesn't mean that you don't fall. It doesn't mean that you don't make mistakes on the way or that we don't have an identity crisis, asking ourselves if something has changed. It doesn't mean that the devil doesn't try to lie to you and make you think that nothing really happened. He's still the same as always. That's going to happen. But every time you hear that voice, you can respond and say, the Gospel tries to be born again and then be totally regenerated and transformed by the power of the Holy Spirit. Go and review the live transmission of the empty tomb right now. He's not there yet. That means that he's still as powerful as ever. The amazing thing is that the Bible clarifies in Ephesians 1 that the same power that raised Christ from the dead acts in us. ¿Dónde? ¿Esto es un artículo genuino? ¿Esto es real? ¿Y esto es lo que mis familiares te van a decir? Por eso puedes tener paz en la tormenta. Por eso puedes liberarte de tu adicción. Por eso la ansiedad desaparecerá. Esa es la razón por la cual tus dolencias pueden ser sanadas y por la que la oscuridad que te rodea cederá ante una luz gloriosa. Esa es la razón. Aunque tu vida tuviera vergüenza hasta hoy, desde ahora puede estar marcada por libertad y emancipación, por el mismo poder que obra dentro de ti. Está en el Evangelio. Debes nacer de nuevo. El mismo poder está obrando. Y en tercer lugar, ¿qué está diciendo Jesús aquí en este diálogo con Nicodemo? Nos está haciendo saber que este glorioso Evangelio siempre ha sido acerca de Jesús.
