Here's the truth Alcohol is not inherently bad But we have to recognize that it has often been used for evil Paul says in Galatians 5, something key Brothers, you were called to be free But do not use your freedom to satisfy the desires of the flesh Do not use your freedom to satisfy the desires of the flesh In other words, over the years I have seen innumerable Christians Who lie to themselves about their freedom And this is what happens Pablo is trying to say, Christ has made you free. Listen, if you have already overcome it, if you are less than 21 years old, don't drink. Just repent if you are drinking at this moment. Okay, go back to Christ. But this is what I want to say. You are free in a way, to consume alcohol. But what I have seen is that people use that as an excuse while actively lying to themselves because they know they are going to drink in excess, but they hide it under freedom. That's what Pablo is talking about. Don't use your freedom as a lie to enslave yourself to something again. I see that even Christians regularly exceed themselves. I see Christians drink a glass of alcohol to fit in, which by the way is never called fitting in. It is called standing out in the name of Jesus. What I see is a oath in the life of many people who drink regularly. I see a freedom in everything. That's what alcohol does. It makes you more free, but I have seen that they become free towards sin, that they loosen their heart towards God. Where you really don't take sin seriously. And here is my challenge. This is my challenge, okay? It's a very good question. Answer this question to yourself. Has alcohol improved my life? We already have an answer. Look, some of us have a story. That's why we need to have this quick conversation here, okay? Look, personally I don't know anyone to whom alcohol has improved their life, but I have met hundreds of people to whom alcohol has made their lives worse, okay? Depression, violence, sexual sin, driving drunk, sexual morality, cold hearts towards God,

stealing futures and destroying marriages, tormenting children for decades. Listen, that's why I don't drink. Well, I'm not morally superior to you. Listen, as a pastor, but also as the pastor of this church, I choose not to drink. I don't impose it on you. You must decide before God. I know that there are some here who were alcoholic parents, or that you yourselves have fought against alcohol and drugs. And if by chance you saw me drinking, that would be your perfect excuse. Or it would irritate you. And to do something, that's why Pablo talks about the beginning of the weakest brother, that I will not use my freedom to make you fall. I refuse to use my freedom to make you fall. Well, and because for me, alcohol is simply not worth it. And I would challenge you to think if it really should be as worth it as it is for some of us. Well, but let me get off that pulpit. Because what matters, listen, this is not a story about alcohol, okay? But that will distract us if we are not careful, okay? It's not a story about alcohol. But I thought that, as you said, John, water becomes wine. Yes, that's where this story comes from, but that's not what the story is about. In fact, John is very clear. He says, in reality, this is the story about a sign, about a sign. And in fact, there are seven different signs in the first twelve chapters of John. In fact, theologians call the first twelve chapters of John the Book of Signs. They are the signs. The last chapters of John are called the Book of Glory, okay? Book of Signs and Glory. Nowhere in the book of John does He call a miracle to something that Jesus does. He calls each miracle a sign. Very important. I will put it here for you, okay? Miracles come from the Greek word dounamis. An act of amazing power. Every time you see Jesus doing a miracle, people are amazed. Dounamis is the dynamite power of God. But a sign comes from the Greek word semeion. Which is an action that points to something greater than itself. Okay, there is a difference between a miracle and a sign, okay? A miracle can be a sign. But if we only see the miracle, it is not enough. The miracle is the act of power. The sign points to what it indicates. Very good. Let me do it super natural for a moment. This is what I mean. If I did tricks like David Blaine or Penn and Teller, like choosing a card, something incredible, right? You'd get out of here saying, Oh wow, that was great, right? But if you were driving and you saw this... What would you think? Oh, man, I have to be careful, right? You ran over a deer or someone dressed you up. Enough! Do you know what I mean? As soon as you see that, you think, Wow, as if you saw it coming.

Good. And if you saw this? Okay. By the way, there's an exam to renew your license. We're going to do this in the dressing rooms after a certain time. Okay, fine. Okay, there's a slippery road ahead. What I know is that instinctively, when I'm driving and I see that sign, I do this. Right? Because I'm not afraid of that sign. That sign indicates that you must be careful ahead. And this one? Many of us didn't grow up in the mountains. That's one of my worst fears. Driving and a giant rock falling on me. Rocks falling. So when you see that sign, it's better to look up while you're driving. I'm not going to be caught by some kind of final destination. But you know why I drive like this, right? Okay. Because every sign, listen, doesn't point to itself. It points to something that transcends itself. The signs take us somewhere. They teach us something and show us a deeper truth. Juan tries to do this here in the second chapter of Cana. And he says yes, absolutely. Listen.

Jesus does miracles. 100%. Wow. An act of God's power. But if all we do is take the miracle at the foot of the letter, we're going to miss the lesson he's trying to teach us. Because every sign points, through the miracle, to a greater reality. I can say it this way. Every sign says something about who Jesus is. Every sign says something about who Jesus is. And let me be very clear. This is not a story about Jesus turning water into wine. Okay? That's the miracle. That's the miracle. In fact, if you stop there, of course, it's great. Because that's how many of us read Juan II in the past. Maybe you'd say, oh wow, that's incredible. Jesus loves weddings. Yes. Yes. Jesus loves weddings. Amen. Let's all go home. Okay? But we're going to miss the sign. Okay? The miracle says something. But we have to look further because it's a sign.

We can't limit ourselves only to the miracle. So the question is, what sign does the miracle point to? And I would say yes. The basic level of understanding is yes, Jesus can do miracles. Yes, Jesus loves weddings. Actually, there are three levels to understand this story. So let me put it this way. Here's the first one. The wine is a sign that Jesus responds to faith. The wine is a sign that Jesus responds to faith. Let's look at this again. Let's go over this story again. What causes this wine to become a sign? Verse 3. When the wine was finished, Jesus' mother said to him, You have no wine. Woman, why do you involve me? Jesus replied, My time has not yet come. And Jesus is like, why do you involve me in this? I'm just sitting there enjoying the music, right? Why are you dragging me into this story? And then Mary, and this is my favorite part of the story, Mary looks at the servants and calmly tells them, Just do exactly what he tells you.

And she simply leaves, right? A classic mother's movement from the past. Does anyone have a mother like that? That says, do what I say, just do it. And she simply leaves. It's like, girls, you are born knowing how to do that. And it's incredible. It's like, it's great. So, I'm going to share more about that in a few minutes. But listen, why is this moment so important? Well, because there's something we've come to know. You've been a Christian for a while. You know this, but not where it comes from. This is where we get it from. Well, listen. This is the first time in John that we see faith activate the miraculous. Well, how do we know that our faith matters? The miracle of the sign of wine. Mary asks Jesus to intervene to help. She believes he will, and then it happens. Okay? I'm not saying that Jesus is a genius in a bottle that comes to manifest your desires. No, what I'm saying is this. Kenneth Hagin said it better. I love this. He says, What he does at this moment is to readjust expectations, which is very good news for us. Jesus says, You are my mother, and you will not force my hand. I only do what I see my heavenly Father do.

The fact that you are of my blood will not give you a special treatment. Understood? But he does it anyway. Why? Because Mary had faith. And this is good news for us, guys. I would say so. Faith, not family, makes you a friend of Jesus. That is, some of us think, Well, I'm nobody. I'm not like the Virgin Mary, much less. No. I think what John does here in his book, Again, you will see this everywhere as we continue to move forward. He leaves almost everyone in history in anonymity. There will be a blind man in chapter 9 of John, and he does not call the man Bob. Why? Because if he calls him Bob, we could think that only the blind called Bob are healed. But, He calls him blind man. Great news. All the blind can be healed. Not only those called Bob. So, what does John do here? Keep in mind that he does not call her Mary. But we are all heard. That is what the sign of wine tries to show us. It is that your faith attracts God to make it supernatural. And I just tell you, we need more saints today who are brave enough to cry out to heaven and come to make the impossible in our world. Listen, the mother of Jesus had, in the Jewish sense, what is called chutzpah. She had a lot of courage. She had courage. She had something that pushed her out of the comfort of what was merely natural. A kind of sacred chutzpah to call God to come and do something absolutely supernatural. She was not afraid to ask God to act. Listen, not even for her own benefit. She asked God for someone else.

It was not a selfish prayer. In reality, it was a generous prayer. And that day, she called God to act in favor of her neighbor. And we need more Christians with a little sacred chutzpah to cry out to heaven in favor of this world. Where are my mothers who pray? Come on, where are my grandmothers who pray? Where are my praying aunts? My parents who pray? Where are my grandparents who pray? Where are my friends who pray? Those who ask, seek, call, and cry out to heaven so that salvation may sprout from the earth? When did you say for the last time, God, save Atlanta, you would save Atlanta, would you call the prodigals home? God, would you protect our children from evil? God, would you cover their minds? God, would you guard their tongues? Because we are surrounded by a world that only sees the natural. But we are a people who walk by faith, not by sight. Listen, the world walks by sight, and that is why everyone is desperate. Warren, Iran, my God, oh God, a terrorist attack is taking place in Moabit. We need people who cry out to heaven and know that no problem is too big. No husband is lost, nor any nation is as lost as to go to hell. No cancer is big. No demon is strong. No war is so fearsome. Our God manifests himself as Jehovah Nissi, who guides us to victory. We have to start praying like this again, saints. You have to stop listening to Fox News and CNN telling you how to act, how to believe. Listen, this afternoon you will enter the social networks. It will remind you again what you should be afraid of. We are not afraid of anything, because perfect love expels fear. We are different in this world. We should not... Obsesionarnos con el ruido. Jesús responde a la fe. Pero esa señal del vino sigue apuntando más allá. Así que la señal del vino nos dice que Jesús responde a la fe. La segunda cosa es esta.

You touched sinful things, and then that impurity stayed in your hands. So this had nothing to do with dirt.

It had to do with sin. So how do we remove sin from our hands? The stain of this world. Well, when I get home, I need to put my hands in clean and crystal clear water to completely purify them. So they had these stone pots with pure water for the ritual purification of their hands. And they looked like this, right? In these pots at the waist, you submerge your hands for a special ritual. So why stone? I don't know if you noticed, but it would be very laborious to carve it out of a single piece of stone, basically like a barrel. Because they believed that porous things could be contaminated. So the ceramic objects, the leather items, or the fabrics, could really become impure. So, in other words, if you had water in a ceramic pot and you put your sinful hands in that water, sin would actually cross the water and contaminate the ceramic. And then you would have to throw it away. But the stone is not porous, so sin couldn't penetrate the stone. Do you follow me?

Do you know what I mean? I mean, there's a lot here. And in fact, you couldn't just put ordinary water there. You had to put what's called living water. If you've ever read about living water in the Bible, living water means water that hasn't been manipulated by human hands. That means, for example, a river or a stream. They would often channel rainwater into these containers so that it wouldn't be touched. If human hands touched it, sin would make all the water become sinful. Is anyone tired? So, to purify yourself, you had to have a stone bowl full of living water. Are you understanding all the complications? In reality, it's much more complex than that. I tried to simplify it. So, what happens in this story is that Jesus says, Fill the containers with water. And then that water became wine. And it's very easy to overlook the sign of what just happened. Okay, here's the question. What was wrong with the containers? Even in the story, what was wrong with the containers? They were empty. He says, you have to fill them. Fill them. Let's see, what did the containers have? They were empty. What was wrong with the old covenant and its form of purification?

It was something empty and hollow. How can water take away sin? And what does Jesus do? He fills it again with something different. It's not full of water anymore. Now it's full of wine. He says that before they purified you with water. Now you're purified with wine. What did wine represent in the last scene? My blood poured out for you. He's saying that you don't purify yourself with water anymore. Now you're purified with blood. If you go to John 19, when Jesus dies on the cross, the Roman soldier approaches him and stabs him in the side. What comes out? Water and then blood. Because the old system needed to be filled and replaced. And Jesus fills it and replaces it with his own blood. Jesus replaces the water of the old covenant with the blood of the new covenant. And now there's only one way to be clean before God. Through the blood of Jesus Christ. Revelation 7, verse 14. I love this. This is great. He says that they washed their clothes and whitened them in the blood of the lamb. How is that possible? Come on, girls. Come on, guys. You go down to the laundry. Hey, are you going to wear tights by chance? Not at all. It's blood. Blood.

He will leave them shining white. How does that work? Because the only thing that can purify us is the blood of Jesus. It's not your ritual. It's not your ceremony. It doesn't matter the obstacles to overcome or to have holy water. Come on. Before you had to wash your hands with water. But now your life has been washed with the blood of Jesus. And the glory of Jesus is that his blood is clean. Only He can purify us from all sins and cleanse us from all injustice. Now we don't resort to the ritual. Now we resort to Jesus. That's why when I see people wandering through this life in ceremonies, rituals, and idolatry, my heart breaks, friends. And we all know these people, and some of us are those people. 2 Corinthians 11, Paul says this, But I fear that in some way, just as the serpent deceived with its cunning, so also your minds may be corrupted and depart from simplicity. Everyone say simplicity. That's in Christ. There is a simplicity in Jesus. Jesus came to fill and replace the old. There are no more obstacles to overcome, friends. Don't go back to slavery. Jesus set you free. A friend of mine, just out of the oven, just left the freedom and simplicity of Jesus Christ and walked directly towards slavery and servitude, towards rules, ceremonies, witchcraft, and darkness. He left freedom in Christ to return to darkness. And listen, friends, today some of us are trapped in the old systems. Whatever your old system may be,

it could be witchcraft, Hinduism, Islam, Judaism, or Mormonism. It could be a Jehovah's Witness or pornography. It could be greed, it could be lust, it could be money, it could be any achievement. Sex, drugs, whatever. But today I'm here to tell you what you already feel. The wine is over. It doesn't satisfy me. It doesn't fill you. There is still that feeling that there has to be something more. It has to be something else. And I promise you this because you are surrounded by people who have tried and seen that the Lord is good. The wine of salvation. I promise you that Jesus is what you have been looking for all your life. Jesus doesn't leave you wanting anything more. Jesus leaves you wanting more, Jesus. I just want more. I want more of that. I want more of that. Because He has come to replace the old and broken systems with what is true, real, satisfactory, and that gives life. What we have desired all our lives. And the truth about the sign of the wine is that Jesus replaces the old. He responds to faith. Finally, Jesus reveals right here that He is the Messiah. This is the point. I know, again. It's like, yes, now. How do you say that? How do you know that Jesus is the Messiah? Well, the sign of the wine is right here. What was the Messiah going to do when He came? Produce an abundance of wine. So what does Jesus do? What is the first thing He does?

He makes 150 gallons. Not cheap wine. Come on, you can't get this in Target. Come on, He fulfills the prophecy. With His first miracle, He announces that the Messiah has come. And this is my favorite. Please, give them all ears to hear this. Well, here it is. Verse 9. We said it again a moment ago. The master of the banquet tasted the water that had become wine. He did not know where it came from, but the servants did. He called the bridegroom and said, All serve first the best wine, and then the cheapest wine, when the guests have already drunk too much. But you have kept the best until now. Again, this is what He is saying. Jesus does not make wine from a dollar store. It is the best that anyone has ever tasted, okay? Listen, remember, this is not just a miracle. This is a sign. He is pointing out something bigger than just what it seems at first glance. Here it is, here it is, here it is. The host of the wedding says, Listen, this is incredible. Usually people serve the best first, and then leave the worst for last. But you did what no one else has done. You kept the best for last. And Jesus says, Look at me, I am that one over there.

I am God, patiently keeping the best for last. You have read the prophets. You have gone to the temple. You have sacrificed the bulls, the goats, and the animals. You have followed the systems. You have tried to purify your hands in the water. But now, something better is here. Because God has kept the best for last in Jesus. No one keeps the best for last, except God. Except God. And Jesus is the evidence that when it seems that everything is broken and will not improve, nothing is impossible for God.
