La Fe Personal || Victory Church

Hello to all of you, I have a vivid memory of when I was 9 years old. We were in Grapevine, Texas, just outside of Dallas. My mom took my older sister, Lara, my older brother, Bishop, and me. We went out the door and sat outside. She started, I don't know what happened to her, but she thought, my children will meet Jesus. I remember him explaining the gospel. And I have this feeling that I know where this is going. So I look at my sister and say, Larry, do you believe this? And she says yes. I drink saliva because I think, now I know exactly where this is going. So I look at my older brother and say, Bishop, do you believe this? And he says yes. And then he looks at me and says, Johnson, do you believe this? And I had my answer ready. No. We talked about this last week, but I grew up in the church. I don't know what your story is, but I grew up in a different context. I was a Presbyterian. And so I sang very occasionally in a children's choir. I was in the bell group. Come on, was anyone here from my bell group? Do you know what I'm talking about? You play a little guy, and if you really have to make a double bell like that guy. I was the boy who put on his tunic and came in with a candle to light the candles, until in a service I sat in the front row and spoke during the whole service. So they took away my opportunity to do that. It's a real story that my parents confirm. I never lit candles again. That was my punishment.

But I didn't believe. I grew up in the church and didn't believe. I was just a child growing up in the church, right? And then after the first year of high school, we packed the church truck and took several from the United States. We took the boys from Boone, North Carolina, to Panama City Beach, Florida, for a youth retreat, a youth conference there. In one of those night sessions, in July 1994, the guy on the platform preached and spoke about Jesus. And suddenly my heart began to pay attention. And then he began to talk about how much God loves us, and how we have revealed ourselves to Him, and what Jesus did. And what our answer should be. And I immediately raised my hand. And I suddenly understood. As if the light was on. I'm sure he said the same thing as my mom. Do you know that sometimes when a stranger says the same thing as someone you love, that's when you listen? It happens every week. I say something and you think, well, I've never heard it before. Your wife says, really? I've told you a thousand times. I'm sure this guy said the same thing. But that was the night when my heart lit up and responded. And the youth pastor stood me up later and said, well, were you rededicating your life? And I said, I don't know what that word means. It sounds like a strange Christian term,

but re means to repeat. So no, this was the first time I believed. This is the first time I put my faith in Jesus. And here's the thing, guys. Everyone assumes that the pastor's son is a Christian. Okay, but maybe this will help us in the next few minutes. There's a difference between being good in the church and being good to God. That day, God, in a merciful and sovereign way, rescued me from the darkness and took me to the kingdom of His beloved Son Jesus Christ in July 1994, almost 32 years ago. And after that night session, I also remember this very vividly, I went outside and it was completely dark on the beach. I sat in the sand and I heard the waves coming to the shore. And I made this decision for the first time in my life. I'm going to pray. I'm going to talk to God for the first time in my life. And the next morning, I woke up and I found a Bible. And I thought, for the first time in my life, I'm going to read the Bible. Do you remember the first time you read the Bible? Without knowing what to do, I used the Bible roulette. That's what I thought. But I was determined. Jesus is here somewhere and I'm going to find Him. I'm going to find this guy. And for the first time in my life, I said, I want to learn more about Jesus. And listen, guys.

And from that day on, my life never became the same again. And I've had innumerable, innumerable experiences with Jesus over the years. I received the Holy Spirit in 1997. I've been here a long time, so from the beginning to the middle of 2000, we had countless experiences. We had experiences with Jesus and the young. If you're young and you're not in the Ministry of Young Adults, what are you waiting for? When Jesus gave me the names of our children before conceiving them, the dream of God for a million people happened here in Victory. It all goes back to that night in 1997. in Panama City Beach, where I was born again. It was then that I made my faith. And listen, I don't know what your story is, but each one of us needs that moment of, that's when I made my faith. I'm going to say it again. I don't know where you're coming from tonight, this morning. I don't know what your story is, but each one of us needs a moment, a date in the calendar, or a memory in which you can say, I overcame that. And I got to the point where I made my faith. We need that story. In our journey of almost a year through the book of John, during the last few weeks, we have accompanied Jesus sitting with a woman by the well. And we have been here for so long

because the story is just so good, and it is so real, so practical. And some of the conclusions that we have drawn are basically these. Jesus invites us to leave our empty wells, to come to him, to make the well that will never dry up. The good news is that Jesus gives. He gives us eternal life, but that eternal life begins today. That God begins to restore us today, that we can worship Jesus in spirit and in truth. And then last week we saw that this beautiful idea is that, listen, your soul will never be satisfied until you associate with God to do the will of the one who sent you. To be, to save souls. Very good. And there is one more part of the story. Everyone say one more. I promise you that after today we will move forward. There is one more part of this story that we need to see before continuing. Let's go back to verse 25 to finish this story. The woman at the well told Jesus, I know that the Messiah is coming, and when he comes he will explain everything to us. Then Jesus declared, I am the one who speaks to you, I am the Messiah. Then, leaving his well of water, the woman returned to the town and told the people, come and see a man. I love it.

Come and see a man who told me everything I have done. Is this the Messiah? And they left the town and went to him. And here it is. Many of the Samaritans of that town believed in him by the testimony of the woman. This is what she said. He told me everything I have done. So when the Samaritans came to him, they asked him to stay with them, and he stayed two days. And by his words many more came to believe. Here is the verse. And they said to the woman, we no longer believe only because of what you said. Now we ourselves have heard and know that truly this man is the Savior of the world. Wow, I'm going to read that again. We no longer believe only because of what you said. Now we ourselves have heard and know that truly this man is the Savior of the world. Listen, I'm going to be honest. I know I say this every week. This is one of my favorite moments in the Bible, right there. Why? Because of how real it is. I mean, can you imagine yourself saying that? Let's follow the story quickly. There is a woman and she meets Jesus.

He changes her life. She runs back and tells everyone about Jesus. So many people believe in Jesus. Okay, I just want to pause. Can we pause for 10 seconds? Come on, guys. Can we pause for 10 seconds and just thank God for the people who introduced us to Jesus? Come on, can we just thank God? Could it have been your mom? Could it have been your dad? Your grandma? A co-worker? A friend? A roommate? Maybe it was me. Maybe it was the pastor of your church. Can we just thank God for the evangelists? How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news. I think the ninth blessing is, Blessed are those who do not keep quiet about Jesus. Blessed are those who risk rejection for Christ. Blessed are those who dare to speak to you about Jesus to rescue you from hell and bring you to the kingdom. Come on, friends. Send a message to that person now and say, Thank you. If they ask why, say, We will speak later. The pastor who was on the platform that night in 1994,

they would not believe who he was. At that time he was a young pastor when Andy Stanley asked to raise his hand. He responded to his call to the altar. He works as a pastor here in the city. I had the opportunity to tell him about it 20 years later. Because look, guys, I'll tell you something. You never know who is on the other side of your obedience. You don't know what's going on. Sow the seeds. Your job is to be obedient. God's job is to produce results. You can't force people to believe, but you have no idea what will happen. Praise God for those who share his testimony and move our hearts. But this is what I would say. Here is the tension in the text we just read. Here is the tension in the text. That's all. Alguna vez, si usas redes sociales, has estado deslizando y de repente escuchas a un tipo hablando sobre Jesús y piensas, ¿qué? ¿Qué es eso? ¿Verdad? Y piensas, ese no es mi Jesús. ¿De dónde sacaste eso? Vamos, chicos. Ignoramos que las Escrituras tienen dos milenios, olvidando siglos de historia y el consenso de la iglesia para oír lo que este tipo pensó anoche. ¿Verdad? Porque ya tiene 500 mil vistas, así que debe ser cierto.

¿Verdad? Están los de frases tipo, te atrapé, refutaré el cristianismo así. Si la Biblia es palabra de Dios, ¿por qué la escribieron hombres? Y nosotros estamos como, oh no, toda mi fe se vino abajo. Porque si las redes sociales son tu única fuente, entonces tu fe subirá o caerá según lo que el algoritmo te venda ese día. Trágicamente para muchos, los influencers moldean nuestra teología más que los pastores o la palabra de Dios. ¿Por qué? Seamos honestos. Y si tienes suerte, la mayoría escucha un sermón a la semana, pero pasas cinco horas al día en las redes sociales. Haz las cuentas. Treinta y cinco horas contra una. Y la mayoría de la gente se queja de esa única hora. El sermón es demasiado largo. Desliza. Casi todos los pastores que conozco ahora son directos. Están diciendo cosas como esta. Ya no tenemos discípulos de Jesús en nuestras iglesias. Tenemos discípulos de TikTok donde buscamos nuestro discipulado. Y ahora la inteligencia artificial ha entrado en juego. Encontré esto. Esta es una estadística real. Hay datos detrás de esto, ¿de acuerdo? Los cristianos suelen confiar más en la IA para obtener guía espiritual que los no creyentes. Oye, Chad, ¿quién es Jesús? Tengan cuidado. No tienes ni idea de dónde estás sacando esas fuentes. Déjenme decirlo así, chicos.

Aquí está el problema con esto. Un algoritmo no fue crucificado por ti. Vamos, vamos, chicos. Un influencer no era la palabra de Dios encarnada. Tengan cuidado de dónde buscan sus fuentes sobre quién es realmente Jesús. Bien, aquí hay otra fuente. Nuestra familia y nuestras preferencias personales. No subestimen la importancia de sus primeros años formativos de lo que se les inculcó. Algunos de ustedes, tal vez su abuela les dijo que Dios es distante porque no respondió a sus oraciones o por cualquier otra razón. No puedo decirles cuántas veces he escuchado esta historia. No, you just created one. Be careful. Because who says Jesus is him? And here is our last source of reference. Here are, unfortunately, the experiences in the church. Well, the vision of Jesus, and to be honest, is filtered by the experience with his people and his church. Okay? So maybe they hurt you in a church. You see? Pastor, do something crazy. Maybe you saw the pastor of Alabanza fail. Someone took money or whatever. Maybe in a service someone did something out of place and we end up attributing it to Jesus. And one of our problems today, this is something very important to me, one of our problems today is that people blindly follow the preaching of their pastor. And let me be honest, some of these guys in the pulpit are a disaster. They say the craziest things. I would say that some things are, according to Pablo, the doctrine of demons. It's madness coming out of the pulpit. And no one is verifying it. No one is asking questions. No one is raising their hand. Everyone just absorbs it like a sponge. that have recently been corrupted and kidnapped by bad preachers. I want to help us with this. Here they are. Mark 4.42 says, God helps those who help themselves. And Luke 10.43, God will not give you more than what is bearable. Do you know them? So these are the sayings of Jesus, okay? Here's the problem with this. That's not in the Bible. But we have heard them as biblical truths. God will not give you more than what is bearable. Have you all heard it before? Have you ever read the Bible? God gives people more than they can bear all the time. All the time. So you will cry out for his help. God helps those who help themselves. When you were in your worst moment and you couldn't get out of the cave of sin, Jesus descended in parachutes to rescue you. Come on, guys. This is our problem.

We quote these things as if, oh, Jesus said this, Jesus didn't say that. Be careful who you listen to. Be careful with what you accept without questioning. Let someone go up to a platform and speak into the microphone, like in the famous quotes of Jesus. Here it is. Don't you believe everything you read on the internet? Very good. Be careful. Just because it's on a screen and in a church service and the guy is on a platform with a microphone, be careful with believing everything he says. We cannot blindly accept everything we hear in the name of Jesus. When Paul was on his missionary journeys, he met the Bereans. They are the classic example of this. It is said that the Jews of Berea had a more noble mentality than those of Thessaloniki. Why? Because here's the first thing. They received the message with great enthusiasm. Impressive. And everyone says, and examine the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true. Acts 17, 11. They received the message eagerly, examining the Scriptures every day to see if it was true. When do we stop doing that? When do we stop just receiving information

and moving on to examine it? When do we stop asking questions or verifying everything? Do you want to know why you should check twice? Because that's not Acts 29, 11. There's no Acts 29. Acts only has 28 chapters. In reality, it's Acts 17, 11. That's a real Scripture. Wrong verse. I'll explain. Even if it's up there, don't believe it. Receive it and examine it. Go out and search on your own. Don't just accept what others say about Jesus. Know Him yourself. I'll give you a true Scripture. This is the real one. Here's a Scripture. The grass dries and the flowers wither, but the Word of God remains forever. This is what I want to say. The networks will fail you, your family too. All the sources will fail you. Politics will fail you. Pop culture will disappoint you. Even the Church can fail you, but the Word of God will never fail you. Jesus will never fail you. So be careful where you base your faith. Base your faith in Christ Himself.

And if we're not careful, let's take a little bit of pop culture, a little bit of what Mom said, what Dad did, and what that guy from Washington said. Let's take that cultural verse I heard. Let's take what the pastor said that time, and also how I would like it to be Jesus. And we're going to mix it all up. And we're going to form Frank in Jesus. He has several small components, according to what others have said. This is the problem, guys. Here's the problem. Is that a falsification? You can't save a true sinner. A false Jesus can't save your true being. A false Jesus can't heal your body. A false Jesus can't expel a demon. A false Jesus can't give you eternal life. So be careful who you believe in. Are you really believing in the true Jesus, or in the Jesus that pop culture is trying to sell you? And that's why it's so powerful that these people in Samaria, again, in verse 42, what do they say? Ese es mi objetivo como pastor, ¿de acuerdo? Mi objetivo como pastor es llevarte a Jesús. Mi meta como pastor no es que me sigas, te voy a decepcionar. Si no lo he hecho ya, lo haré en cualquier momento, te fallaré. Jesús nunca te fallará. No busco atraerte hacia mí, sino hacia Jesús. Colossenses 1.28, Pablo dice, anhelo presentar los maduros en Cristo Jesús. Mi meta para ti es presentarte a Jesús y decirle, mira Jesús, aquí está mi labor. Dice que dejaran de seguirme y los guíe hacia ti. Por eso Pablo se llama a sí mismo un casamentero divino, como una especie de e-harmony espiritual. Su objetivo es conectarte con Jesús y conseguirte una cita con Él. Pablo dice en Corintios, síganme a mí como yo sigo a Cristo. O sea, si no sabes cómo es Jesús, solo sígueme a mí. Y eventualmente voy a tomar tu mano, voy a tomar su mano. Voy a juntar sus manos y luego me voy a apartar. Me encanta el hecho de que creas por lo que yo te digo. Pero después de pasar tiempo con Él, lo vas a conocer por ti mismo. Ese es el objetivo. Por eso no predicamos autoayuda, ni sermones de masaje en la espalda, ni mensajes de victoria.

Porque eso no va a ayudar a tu alma en el día de la prueba. No, yo quiero que conozcas a Jesús por ti mismo. No solo quieres sentirte bien, no quieres ser bueno. Quieres conocer al bueno. Buscas unión y atracción a Jesús. Quiero que te enamores locamente de Jesús mismo. Por eso estamos en la serie del libro de Juan por 40 años. Juan concluye, estas cosas se escribieron para que creas y al creer tengas vida en su nombre. El objetivo es que te enamores de Jesucristo. Empieza con mis palabras, pero luego lo conocerás por ti mismo. Por eso me parte el corazón cada vez que miro hacia aquí y está ocurriendo con demasiada frecuencia. Cada vez que veo que un pastor cae y la gente de la iglesia también, lo que eso me muestra es que su fe en Jesús era fe en su pastor. Eso me rompe el corazón. Escuchen amigos, los pastores hablamos de estas cosas a puerta cerrada. Esa es una de nuestras grandes, como lo que nos atormenta en la medianoche es saber que algunas personas en nuestras iglesias en ese día escucharán, aléjate de mí, nunca te conocí. Esto sucedió porque tu fe estaba construida en mí y no en Jesús mismo. Y lo que intento decir es esto amigos, no es suficiente solo estar en la sala porque es posible estar en la ducha y aún así morir de sed. Abre la boca y bebe tú mismo. Escucha, un amigo mío estuvo en Victory por muchos años, unos 6 o 7 años. Nos vimos seguido, pensé, debes seguir a Jesús, acepta el evangelio. Se bautizó al final. Pero el problema era que nunca recibía amor, amaba la idea del amor, lloraba en adoración, le gustaba estar rodeado de amor, pero no lo recibía y estaba ahí.

Y lo que pasó fue que como no estaba recibiendo el amor de Jesús, cuando apareció una mujer que intentó darle afecto, dijo con su propia boca, voy a dejar a Jesús para irme con ella. Lo que quiero decir es que debemos ir más allá de la fe ajena y unir nuestras vidas a Jesús. Esa debe ser la meta de cada padre, cada pastor, cada amigo y cada compañero de trabajo, de quien sea. Si pasas tiempo con alguien para hablarle de Jesús, tu objetivo principal no es atraerlo a ti, sino que es llevarlo directamente a Jesús. Padres, escuchen, cuando son pequeños, léanles las escrituras y enséñales el camino correcto y tráiganlos aquí. Así, en el ministerio infantil, alguien más les hablará de Jesús y cuando sean adolescentes, también llévenlos al grupo de jóvenes. Bueno, no sé. Simplemente no quiere ir. No me importa. Yo tampoco quería ir a ese tonto retiro juvenil en 1994, pero mis padres me obligaron. Fue ahí donde renací y Dios cambió mi vida. Esto es lo que quiero decir. Mi hijo no es el padre. Tú eres el padre. Haz que entre en el salón y deja que Dios haga lo suyo. Lo que intentas con el tiempo es criarlos en tu fe y poco a poco se los entregas para que puedan unirse a Jesús por el resto de su vida. Porque, escucha, no vas a estar aquí para siempre. ¿Y estará realmente segura su alma después de que te hayas ido? Mi objetivo es tomar la mano de mis hijos, Isaac y Jeremiah, y tomar la mano de Jesús y luego unirlas. Y tengo uno. No me importa si todo lo demás en mi vida se desmorona. Tengo uno si mis hijos conocen a Jesús.

Porque cuando estén delante de Dios en el día del juicio, Él no les va a preguntar, Oye, chicos, ¿su mamá era cristiana? No funciona así. Escuché de nuevo esta frase, este viejo dicho, que Dios no tiene nietos. Dios solo tiene hijos e hijas. No se trata de lo que cree tu mamá. ¿Qué crees tú? ¿De acuerdo? Escucha, no naciste en el reino. Naciste de nuevo en el reino. Así que en el día del juicio, escucha, él no va a decir, oye, ¿a qué iglesia ibas? Dile, iba al Victory. Él, me encanta, pasa. ¿Tienes pase libre? No funciona así. No funciona así. No funciona así. Primero, no creo que te vaya a preguntar nada, ¿de acuerdo? Y luego Pablo, básicamente, lee su currículum espiritual. Él dice, circuncidado al octavo día del pueblo de Israel, de la tribu de Benjamín. Es un súper judío. Eso es lo que está diciendo. Hebreo de hebreos. En cuanto a la ley, fariseo. En cuanto al celo perseguidor de la iglesia. En cuanto a la justicia que es en la ley, irreprochable. En otras palabras, me memoricé la Biblia. Fui a todos los servicios de la iglesia. Me subí a la plataforma y la enseñé yo mismo. Soy más justo que todos ustedes juntos. Pero todo lo que para mí era ganancia, ahora lo considero pérdida por causa de Cristo. Es más, considero que todo es pérdida por el incomparable valor de conocer a Cristo Jesús. Mi señor, conocer a Cristo Jesús, por quien lo he perdido todo, no lo sabemos con certeza. La mayoría de la gente cree que Pablo en realidad estaba casado y que cuando puso su fe en Jesús, su esposa lo divorció. Todo le fue arrebatado, todo su dinero, todas sus posesiones. No le quedó nada, fue azotado, fue golpeado. Lo dejaron por muerto. Y él dice, alabado sea Dios, pues todo lo tengo por basura para ganar a Cristo y ser hallado en él, sin justicia propia que viene de la ley, sino la que es por la fe en Cristo, la justicia de Dios por la fe. Quiero conocer a Cristo. Quiero saber.

¿Podemos decir eso hoy? Quiero conocer a Cristo. Sí, conocer el poder de su resurrección y participar en sus sufrimientos, haciéndome semejante a él en su muerte y así de alguna manera llegar a la resurrección de entre los muertos. Él está diciendo, chicos, yo solo quiero conocer a Jesús. Quiero ir más allá de solo escuchar lo que otros dicen sobre él y quiero conocerlo. No quiero saber acerca de él, quiero conocerlo, lo que significa que en algún momento, con la ayuda de Dios, cada uno de nosotros tiene que asumir la responsabilidad de su propia relación con Jesús y tenemos que aprender a alimentarnos por nosotros mismos. ¿Puedo ser honesto, chicos? Mis hijos tienen 17 y 21 años, no tuve problemas para alimentarlos de bebés, pero si vinieran a mí esta tarde, siendo ya hombres de 17 y 21 años, y dijeran, papá, papá, yo les diría, hermano, aliméntate tú mismo, idiota. O sea, ¿qué estás haciendo? Come, come, ¿sabes? Pregunta, ¿por qué algunos de nosotros hemos sido cristianos durante 17 o incluso 21 años y nos sentamos cada domingo por la mañana y decimos, aliméntame? Me fui de esa iglesia, no me alimentaron. No digo que esto no importe, pero lo que hacemos esta mañana es muy importante.

No me molesta poner la mesa, no me molesta preparar la comida. Lo que sí me molesta es que esta sea tu única comida de la semana. Por eso algunos de ustedes tienen tanta hambre, por eso el martes vuelven al pecado, porque no construyen su vida en Jesús por sí mismos, solo creen lo que yo digo sobre él. Pero creo que Dios está levantando una generación que no solo escuchará pasivamente sobre Jesús, sino que buscará pasar tiempo con él y conocerlo por sí mismos. Creo que Dios está levantando una generación que adorará, orará, ayunará y que buscará a Jesús fuera de este lugar hablando de él a otros. Vamos, escuchen, déjenme hacerles una pregunta desafiante. ¿Cuándo fue la última vez fuera de este lugar que estuviste en la presencia de Dios y te fuiste diciendo, wow, acabo de encontrarme con Jesús? Y si no tienes eso, debes conseguirlo. Es tu señal de alerta. Tu fe se basa demasiado en el servicio de la iglesia en lugar de conocer a Jesús por ti mismo. No te estoy condenando hoy. Te estoy animando a que sigas avanzando. Y para que no me malinterpretes, no estoy hablando solo de tener experiencias sin fundamento. Digo que vivimos experiencias que se basan en la verdad de la Biblia.

Esto es lo que quiero decir. No solo vayas a la palabra de Dios. Ve a través de la palabra de Dios para llegar al Dios de la palabra. Está bien, no solo leo la Biblia para saber acerca de Jesús. Eso es lo que Jesús les dice a los fariseos. They know the scriptures by heart, but they don't come to me to have life. You simply recognized God in the room. This is what I'm saying. There is a holiness in time. Everything in our life is so fast, so fast, right? For example, we click on a link on our phone, and we get very angry when it takes four seconds. We're like, where am I? On the moon? What the hell, right? We want a self-service spirituality. We want to have it in two minutes or less, right? There is no self-service kingdom, guys. Sit down. Recognize him in the room. Be with him. Spend time with him. That's what these men did being with Jesus. And as they spent time with Jesus, they got to know him more. Look for environments where you can get to know him more. Listen, I don't believe that God is my healer. I know that God is my healer because he has healed my body. I've gone from believing to knowing, okay? We have these opportunities with God. Each one of us needs to be able to remember the moment when we honestly said, I don't believe anymore because of what my mom, my dad, a friend, or my pastor said. Now that I've spent time with Jesus, I know that this Jesus is really the savior of the world. Guys, we have the opportunity to go beyond the borrowed faith and reach personal faith. And today could be the day when you make your faith yours. Not just knowing Jesus, but really knowing him as the savior of the world. Amen. Amen. Let's take a step right here. Let's commune together. Some are mentally broken, others are consumed by fear, some have broken relations with their family and resentment towards the kingdom of God.
