¿Me explico?
Evangelio significa buenas noticias.
It's logical because the Jewish history started with him. And why?
Matthew writes for the Jews. Who does Mark write to? Mark writes for the Romans. The Romans at that time thought of Caesar, empire, power, king. And so, in that culture, the way you knew someone was important was that before he arrived, someone would come to announce it. They would say, Caesar is here. How does Mark begin? John the Baptist appears and says, the Lamb of God has come. He writes for the Romans. Well, Luke is the only non-Jewish author in the Bible. He's a gentile. And that's why he tries to explain that this story goes beyond. It's not just for Jews. So his story begins with the genealogy of Jesus going beyond Abraham to Adam. Because he's trying to show you that this is not just for Jews. It's for everyone! But John begins in a different place. His first three words are in the beginning because he's telling a bigger story than everyone else. So, in essence, if I may say so, Matthew is telling a very Jewish story. Mark is telling a story of royalty. Luke is telling a human story for everyone. John is telling a cosmic story. That's the size of the whole universe. That's how this story goes. I'll go a little deeper here.
The primitive church took an animal and assigned it to the four Gospels. Revelation 4 and Ezekiel 1 describe four strange beings before the throne of God. The primitive church assigned the face of each animal to one of the Gospels. So, Mark, the face they used there was the lion. Why? Because the king? Luke was the guy showing the strength of Jesus. Well, they symbolized John with the eagle. Why? Because eagles can fly higher than any other bird and they have a very special ability to look directly at the sun. So, why did they choose an eagle for John? Because John rises higher than any other Gospel and has the courage to look, if I may say so, to look directly at the face of the cosmic glory of Jesus Christ. Now, I know that some of you are thinking, hey, that's too fast. I'm drowning. I'm very intimidated right now. Cosmic glory. What should I do with that? Well, one of my teachers said it like that. Others said it before, but I attribute it to him. I love it. It says,
John's book is so simple that a child plays, but so profound that an elephant does nothing. This is what I want to say. God is kind and will not allow you to drown. Well, if today you are incredible, a new believer, or a 100-year-old saint, I promise you, every time you read John, you will receive something. Every time. Why? Because I promise you this. Perhaps you have already done it long enough to know it. You will never reach the depths of God. You will never reach the heights of God. You will never reach the breadth of God. But God and your exploration will keep you safe. You will not drown. John writes like this on purpose. It is low for children, and quite deep for elephants. He does it on purpose because John knows you're there. When writing this book, he knows you're there. I mean, we don't find John's diary after dying. No. John is writing for a listener. He knows you're listening and has a goal. Do you want to know what John's goal is? To become you.
John wants to become you. And he says it to you again, at the end of the Gospel, John 20. This is what he says. But these have been written for you to believe. That Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name. I love that. I love that. That by believing you may have life in his name. Do you understand? Can you have life in his name? Very well. So listen. John writes for two great reasons. One is for you to believe if you haven't done it yet. The second reason of John is that if you already believe, you can believe more deeply than ever in your life. Very well. John writes to awaken or deepen faith. Two things will happen this year, in this journey that we are starting today. This is the first thing that will happen. You will believe in Jesus more deeply than ever. I'm in the right place. Alguien le importa? Vamos.
Using the same word, in the beginning, well, why does he do that? Just as the book of Genesis tells us about the creation of humanity, the apostle John tells us how the recreation of the whole of humanity occurs. Genesis narrates how God created everything, but then we bite the apple, we reveal ourselves, and we die. How can we ever be rescued?
John 1.1, in the beginning, humanity needs to be recreated. So let me introduce you to the one who can recreate, and his name is Jesus. So here's the idea, guys. I can read John's mind for a moment. It took John more than three years to really understand who Jesus is. And when he starts writing, he thinks, I'm not even going to let them pass three verses without understanding the fullness of who he is. And so, what he's saying is that from the beginning, in our minds, we have to understand the majesty and the deity of who Jesus is. John 1.1, in the beginning, it was the Logos. Is that the word in Greek? In the beginning, it was the word. In the beginning, it was Logos, literally Logos. So what is Logos? Logos means word, message, or wisdom. In the beginning, it was the word. In the beginning, it was the message and the wisdom of God. So, why would John use that word? Well, go deeper with me for a second. It's vital to understand something when you read the Bible. The Bible wasn't written for you. It was written for you. Do you understand that John wasn't writing to Samantha in 2026 in Atlanta? No, he's writing to the Greek and Jewish culture. Good news, God is supernatural. The word of God is as powerful and transformative today as it was 2,000 years ago. So, even though the Bible wasn't written for you, it was written for you. Who did John write to? To people who would understand what Logos is. So, the Greek culture, that's how they understood Logos.
Logos, the word, captures this. Logos was the supernatural power of the gods that kept the universe together. Logos is what keeps atoms in structure. Logos. For the Jews, Logos was the law, the will, the wisdom of God. They believed that the Torah, that is, Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy, already existed with God in heaven before Moses. So, it wasn't the first time God thought about it. No, no. God basically gave them Logos. He didn't invent Logos. No, Logos was in heaven with them. So, when John writes that the word was with God at the beginning, that doesn't pose a problem. Because the Greeks are like, yes, of course, the gods own Logos, right? And the Jews say, yes, obviously the Torah was with God. Yes, yes. The word was what was with God at the beginning. But then John shows his letters, and continues writing, and says, at the beginning it was the verb, and the verb was with God, and the verb was God. Can we all say that together? And the verb itself was really God. Once again, me and the verb certainly was God. He was with God at the beginning. Because of Him, all things were made. Without Him, nothing of what was created was made. John says this,
the word was not only with God. The word was God. And that word, then, created all things. And spoiler alert, listen, that word is an El. That word is an El. It's not an that. The word is an El. And He is Jesus. He is Jesus. All right, guys, I just have to say it so there's no confusion. Maybe you're new to Victory. We're not Mormons. We don't believe that Jesus was a man who progressively became God. We're not Jehovah's Witnesses. We don't believe that Jesus was created as the Archangel. Michael, and then came and did His thing. We're not Muslims who believe that Jesus is just a good man, a good man, but a prophet, but nothing more than that at all. No, Juan no titubea.
People have tried and even given their lives for it. If you are looking for a good way
to reconcile the dream later, look for the Creed of Nicaea and you will be able to read it with your small group. The Creed of Nicaea, as 1,700 years ago, tried to put words to the Trinity. I encourage you to go and read it. There are terms like this that explain it. Three equal people who share the same essence, but remain different in personality. Bien, gracias.
Escucha, no me importa.
y nació de ella, siendo hombre y Dios, hijo del hombre. and Son of God, called Jesus Christ. Tertullian, 18 centuries ago, said, Let us believe in God and man, completely God and man, a great theological word, the hypostatic union. You can get very excited about that later and look it up on Google. Hypostatic union, what does it mean? 100% God, 100% man. Restart your theology. Jesus was not 50% God and 50% man. He was not 51% God and 49%. He was not 90 and 10. No, 100% God, 100% man. And here it is crazy. It is something amazing, especially for that time. Maybe some of us already understand it. But in Greek, that word for meat, the word became meat. The Greek word is sarx. Sarx is a dirty word, sarx. Because whenever you describe God, He is ascending. He is high, He is sacred. He is majestic, He is great. He is up there.
God is up there. Sarx is down here. Sarx is really disgusting. Sarx is dirty. Sarx is dirty. Sarx has wrinkles. Sarx gets sad. Sarx has to go to the bathroom. Come on, sarx can bleed. Sarx has bad days, right? So God is pure. Sarx is impure. God is holy. Sarx is impious. But the word became sarx. What do you do with that? What do you do when the word holy becomes something we have always called impure? The word became sarx. God became meat. What do you do with that? The best word we have is incarnation. Where the deity becomes humanity and becomes Emmanuel. God with us. So the question is this. Could it be true that God doesn't just speak from afar? Could it be true that God didn't just send us letters?
Because it's as if he said, if he only came to me, I would ruin you all. You are not worthy of being in my presence. Could it be true that God entered this world and got into our experience? Because if he did, he changes everything. When I started this year, I started reading the Bible from beginning to end. I'm going to do that this year. So it's not just me. I'm going to do that this year. So I'm finishing this season of the desert of the Hebrews, right? If you are familiar with that, God frees them from slavery in Egypt and takes them to the promised land. It took them 40 years to get there. It must have been a trip of about a month. And it's their fault because they are really terrible. If you read Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, they are terrible, just like us. They complained about everything. God, why did you bring us to the desert? It's better to be slaves again.
Again, literally in my notes. Like in the Bible. I'm going to write again on the margins. I can't tell you again. They complain again, just like us. And so, in this journey from slavery to the promised land, while they are wandering through the desert, if you can capture a little bit of God's mind, what I would think would be, well, they are going to be here for a long time. How do I show them that I'm with them? How do I show them that they are not alone? How do I show them that they are not just this, and that they are really part of this story of God? And so, God tells them to build something called the tabernacle. Well, the tabernacle, put simply, is a luxurious store. I'm not trying to be irreverent, but it was. God gave them very precise instructions about how to build this store. Now, later in the future, it became the temple. You can still go to the temple in Jerusalem. And inside the temple is the holy place where God lived. Well, the tabernacle,
as they were nomads during those 40 years, every time God told them to stop, they would build the tabernacle, and as soon as it was ready, the cloud would rest on it. And at night, the cloud was replaced by a column of fire. And what would happen was that in that smoke and in that fire was the God of creation. In fact, He descended to live inside that store. The tabernacle was the presence of God with them. The tabernacle was the only place on earth where God made contact with creation. The tabernacle was the sign that God was with them. The tabernacle was what they could look at. No, I'm not alone. God has not surrendered to me. I still have hope because God is here with us in the tabernacle. And the truth is that you would probably never guess what is the specific word that the Apostle John uses in Greek. In verse 14, to describe Jesus, the word became flesh and established its own
sacred tabernacle among all of us. What is he saying? He wants you to return directly to the stories of the desert. He wants you to say, wait a moment, wait, the tabernacle and is God present there? Wait, the word is God. Wait, wait, what? This is precisely what he is telling us all, my friends. In an instant, the eternal word that created the entire universe descends to earth and becomes flesh. And he tabernacles with his creation. The divine and pre-existing wisdom of God that designed the universe is revived from our own human skin. The scriptures become flesh. The power of God, who always keeps the atoms united, walks through the streets that he created. The tabernacle was God, with his people on their journey from slavery to the promised land. Jesus Christ is the God who walks with his people. In our long journey from slavery to his promised land. Why is Jesus called the word of God? Because the logo means message. Is Jesus really the message? Jesus is the message of God for humanity. Jesus is the words of God for the world. Jesus is the message. Not just the words he said, but the life he lived. Listen, you can look at all that. Don't look at everything about me, I will disappoint you.
I try to live like Paul, Corinthians 11. Follow me as I follow Christ. But listen, my life will disappoint you. Listen to me, but don't look at all my life. I'm not always coherent and I could disappoint you. But Jesus, you can look at his words. You can look at his life. You can model all your life in him. You can build all your life on a firm foundation and he will never disappoint you. He will never disappoint you. Jesus is the eternal word of God for the world. Jesus is the point of sacred encounter where the divinity touches humanity. Jesus is God living and inhabiting among us. Jesus is the temple with two legs. Jesus is the saint of the walking saints. Jesus is the great I am, who breathed breath in the dust and then walked on the dust that he created. And if you could summarize God in one word, that word is Jesus. If you want to know what God is like, look at Jesus. If you want to know how God feels about sinners like you and me, look at Jesus. And listen to all the other religions. When you really analyze it, all the other religions call you to ascend the mountain of God. But God knew you couldn't climb so high. Every time you fall, you say, I'll never do it again. Then you do it again.
And God knew you could never go up high enough. So the word became flesh and came down from the mountain to come and tabernacle with us. You're not alone. You're not alone. You're not forgotten. You're not abandoned. He doesn't say anything. You have to be a saint before he can touch you. No. He walks on earth before you even make a move. So here are the good news, guys. Whether you're at the top or in the valley, it doesn't matter if you have abundance or if you have a need. It doesn't matter if you enjoy full health or if you get a bad medical diagnosis. Here are the good news. God has walked through the world. And remember, that changes everything. If God walks through the world, everything changes. It's almost as if we should restart time if that happens. And that's the point. Juan's intention while he's writing the Gospel is for us to read it. I encourage you, please. Some of you are going to go home today and start reading, Juan. I encourage you to do so. But Juan, while he's writing, his purpose is this. That you read in a devotional way and perhaps slowly, intentionally, with reverence and astonishment. That in just a few weeks, you'll see that man, this is what he wants you to know, that the man at Cana's wedding in chapter 2, that man is God. That the man with the woman in the well in chapter 4,
yes, that man is God. And in chapter 13, while this man is washing those dirty feet, yes, yes, that is God himself washing feet. That the words and deeds of Jesus are the words and deeds of God. The voice of Jesus, the red letters of the Scriptures, are the words of God. It's the voice of God. And as we'll see today, but going deeper and deeper, this Jesus is the only hope for this dark world. This Jesus, the only hope, there is no hope in governments. There is no war here. to put an end to all wars. We have tried, and we fail each time. But Jesus Christ is the Savior of God's lives, sent to a world that is drowning. And there is only one way to be saved. So, today, what is exactly your answer? Honestly, I don't know. What is your answer to the fact that in the beginning of everything the Word already existed? And the Word was with God, and the Word was God? He was with God in the beginning. And He created all things. And for Him, nothing was made except what He did. And then that same Word became flesh and dwelt among us. How do you respond to that? My spirit is this. If you already believe, it is time to believe with much more depth. It is time to remove the lid from the box in which you put Jesus
and let Him come out. Because He is not only that naïve lamb. He is also the roaring lion of Judah, pre-existing King of all kings. It is time to believe more deeply than ever before. But if you don't believe, maybe you came here skeptical, maybe you came here with a little curiosity. Good news. The table is served, the door is open, Jesus is here with His arms open, and it is time to believe. And by believing that He is the Messiah, the Son of God, you will have eternal life through His holy name. Lower your heads. Let's speak with the King. Jesus. There is no better or more beautiful name that we can pronounce than that of Jesus. God, in reality, begins to make sense because we live in a world where you can say any other name. And nobody cares. But when you say the name of Jesus, people get upset. Because when you say the name of Jesus, darkness comes back. Demons tremble. Addictions are broken, destroyed. And the dead come out of their graves when they hear the name that is above all names.
The name of Jesus, the Christ. Because He is not only a good man. He is not only a prophet. He is not only a human being who, little by little, became God. No, He is the eternal King of glory, pre-existing, who created all things. The great architect of the whole universe. So we give glory to Jesus, the name that is above all. And God, as a people, today we thank you because the logo became Sarks. Because the word itself became flesh. That changes everything. One of the reasons why everything changes is because that flesh was wounded. That flesh was beaten. And that flesh was transgressed. That flesh suffered. That flesh bled. And that flesh died on the cross for the sins of the world. But only three days later, that same flesh breathed again. And Jesus Christ rose from the dead, coming out of the grave forever. He is alive today. That's why when we put our faith and believe in Him, we receive the gift of eternal life forever. Because He remains alive. The tomb is completely empty
and Jesus is alive. Because He is not only a man. He is the true God. And I thank you, God, for this good news for us who believe. We need to remember it today. We have minimized you. God, I pray that we magnify you. Begin that path in us today. But God, for those who need to move away from His path, because it is a dead end, we know it. It is not working. And we need to put our faith in Jesus, the King, God Himself. I thank you because in just one moment, some of us will receive eternal life in His name. If you want to follow Jesus, tell Him, I cannot do it alone. To repent is simply to change course, to make a complete turn. I will leave my path, I will change my thinking, and I will follow the one of God, with faith in Christ. I want to pray with you, but I would love to know with whom I am praying. Could you raise your hand if you say that today is the day? Yes. Yes.
Yes. We are many of us. Yes. It is not a Jesus to be ashamed of. Raise your hand. I love it. You can lower your hands. I will pray with you. Okay. And if today is the day, here is the good news, guys. What is about to happen is something supernatural. This transcends the natural. It is more than what you see. I will guide you and the family of God will pray with you. Let's pray like this. Say, Lord Jesus, today is the special day on which I decide to put all my faith in Jesus Christ. I repent of my sin and of the path I have taken. following. I leave all that aside to faithfully follow your path for the rest of my life. I believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the only Savior of the whole world. He is the Son of God who took each of my sins on the cross. And right now, through this belief, I receive with gratitude the gift of eternal life. I will live forever because of Jesus Christ. I am forgiven. I am free. God is my Father. I truly belong to the Kingdom of God and I will live under his grace for all the days of my life. In the name of Jesus. Amen. Amen. We can celebrate. Let's go, let's celebrate that right now. Oh, it's very good. Hey, do me a favor. If you can, why don't you stand up? Let's take just three minutes. I promise you, really, just three minutes here. And listen, if you just put your faith in Jesus Christ, it is the best decision you will make in your whole life. I know it excites you even if you don't know what to do. It's great. You are in the right place. Soon you will see the next step. But before that, I don't want us to just hear a word and just go.
Let's, like in the chorus we sing, that there is no other name like Jesus. We raise our voice to the King of Kings and we will worship him as the King he is. It's not just putting your hands in your pockets and waiting. No, I'm not looking to win everyone over to go have lunch. In reality, I will raise my voice to give God the glory that belongs to him. His name, Jesus Christ, is the name that is above all names. Let's sing it about our family. Sing it about your children. Sing it about the city. Sing it about America. Sing it about the nations. And we attribute to God the glory that belongs to his name. Let's worship together. We just want you to know that we see you. You are important to us and we would love to continue creating things in the future that bless you. So send us a letter and we look forward to hearing from you soon.
