Somehow, the language that she used was, because of what these people did to me in the church, the plan that God had for me was ruined. So, after listening to her for a while, I looked at her and asked her, and I said, look, I understand what you're telling me, I'm very sorry about what happened, but I picked up on something you said. There's something you said at the end, and it's, this that someone did to me ruined God's plan for me. And I said, do you really believe that? Do you believe that a human being has the ability to ruin God's plan for you? And she said, well, yes, because it wasn't God who hurt me, it was the people, and people ruin what God wants to do. To which I replied, I understand that it was the people who hurt you, and it wasn't God. But I ask you again, is it possible that a human being ruins God's plan for your life? You know that the whole book of Genesis, is the question that I believe

you're trying to answer. It's the mother of all questions. Because God, through Genesis, is giving a promise all the time. And it's that God is forming a family, and he's saying that through that family, thousands of years later, the Messiah or the Savior will be born. But that family is full of failures, of people who hurt each other, of bad decisions, and of absolutely unfair moments, and who don't seem to connect with anything. And the question you ask yourself while you're reading Genesis is, is it possible that human mistakes can ruin God's plan? Another way of asking the question is this, if the God who created Adam, the God who preserved Noah, the God who called Abraham, the God who reaffirmed Isaac, and the God who raised Jacob, if that God has the ability to take a bunch of out of tune instruments and make a good song. That is the question that will be answered in this series that we're starting today, five preachings, in the life of my favorite person

of the entire Old Testament, named Joseph. So if you brought your Bible, I want you to lift it up, put it up high. What do we say? This is the word of God. Go to Genesis chapter 37. And while you're going to Genesis chapter 37, I'm going to tell you what the main idea of everything we read is. If you're taking notes, I encourage you to do so. If you forgot everything after noon, take notes. And this is the message of everything you hear the word of God will tell you. Are you ready? The God of the Bible is not reacting to your life. He is directing it. I'm going to say it again. The God of the Bible is not reacting. He is not reacting to your life. He is directing it. And what we're going to see today through the three scenes in what begins with Joseph's life is that God is directing your life even in times of immaturity,

in times when you're still green, when you're not ready to receive God's promises. He is directing your life even in times that seem irrelevant, when nothing is connected to anything, when nothing makes sense. And He is directing your life, listen to me carefully this morning, He is directing your life even when other people hurt you and do ugly things to you. God never reacts. God always directs. God never let go of this car's steering wheel, even if it seems to you that it's in total discontrol. And I'm going to prove it to you through the Word of God with the first scene of Joseph's life, which I called Great Promises, Little Heart. Great Promises, Little Heart. I'll read you the first scene from Genesis chapter 37. It goes like this. I'll start from verse 2. When Joseph was 17 years old, he often took care of his father's herds. He worked for his half-brothers,

the sons of Bilah and Silpah, two of his father's wives. Remember that his father had four wives, two real wives, and the other two were like slave wives, etc. I explained that in the previous session. So he told his father about the herds He was a snitch. Jacob loved Joseph more than his other children because he was born in his old age. That's why one day Jacob had him make a special gift for Joseph, a beautiful tunic. But on the contrary, his brothers hated him because his father loved him more than they did. They did not say a single kind word to Joseph. One night Joseph had a dream, and when he told his brothers about it, they hated him more than ever. Listen to this dream, he told them. It turns out that we were in the field tied to a branch of wheat. Suddenly my branch rose up and your branches got together around mine and bowed to it. And his brothers said, So you think you will be our king? Is that not true? Do you really think you will reign over us? So, the text says, they hated him even more because of his dreams and the way he told them. That's the first scene. Here, I'll tell you a little bit. There is an obvious contrast between what Jacob felt for his son Joseph and what his brothers felt for Joseph. Jacob, the father, felt an insulting preference for his little son Joseph. And the text tells you why he had this selective love for Joseph. And it's because Joseph was the son that God had given him in his old age. Also, it doesn't say it here, but we know it from the previous story, that Jacob felt a preference for Joseph because Joseph had been born to his favorite wife of the four. There was a favorite, who was Rachel.

So, let's say that the planets had aligned so that Joseph was the bad boy of the family. Here's the note, and I say it from the past because it's not our main point. What you have to pay attention to as a reader of this story, is that Jacob, as a father, is creating a toxic environment in his family. I don't think I have to convince you of that. Jacob is repeating the same thing that happened to him. Jacob knew what it was to feel rejected by a father. In fact, Jacob grew up being rejected by his father. However, as usually happens with us, you see that you keep swearing, I will never repeat what happened to my family. And do you know what you end up doing? You take the template, you take the model that happened to you, and you keep bringing the same destruction, without realizing it, or maybe you are realizing it, to your own family. And I tell you this, I insist, from the past, it proves something to you, that having an experience with God, and that God has saved you, does not automatically erase the vices that you bring from your family. And if you don't let God heal the things in your life, you end up going through the same chains that bound you and that you hated so much when you grew up. Jacob is doing the same thing that his father Isaac had done to him. Now, the thing is that his brothers, of course, did not feel the same affection that Jacob felt for Joseph. The brothers, and I tell you this three times in the text, what did they feel for Jacob? Sorry, what did they feel for Joseph? Hatred. Three times they say, they hated him,

and then he tells you, and they hated him again, and in the end he tells you, now they hated him, but they hated him back. The three reasons why they hate him is, first, I told you before, because he was a snitch. He tells us that Joseph came to his father and said to him, Do you know all the things these guys did when you weren't watching? We don't know what Joseph's motivation was, but every time the Bible uses that word, of the bad reports that he brought, they are always false or exaggerated reports, or to ruin someone else's reputation. I don't know if what he told Joseph was true or not, or if it was a little stretched, but the only thing I know is that Joseph blew and blew to ruin the life of the rest of his brothers. The second reason why they hated him was because Jacob's father had given him what? A tunic. And he says, I don't care that I gave him a tunic. The tunic, the one with the colors that his father had given him, was a very expensive one, and at that time the clothes gave the image of status, like today, if you dress in a certain way, many times you are trying to describe yourself as someone who is at a certain level or not. And the third reason why they hated his brother so much was because of the little dreams he had. I couldn't read all of them, because he has two dreams that are almost the same.

The dream always looked like this. Joseph, God blessing Joseph, and everything else doing what? Reverence. That is a very charged language. Because doing reverence is not to worship Joseph, but it is a language of servitude. It means, one day God told me that all of you are going to serve me and I'm going to be the boss of all of you. And he told it twice. What is the beautiful irony of this? It's that when I finish preaching this to you in five Sundays, this is going to happen. Everyone is going to end up doing reverence to Joseph. But, and I want you to say with me, but, Joseph is not ready yet. And this is going to happen in 20 years. And I'll tell you why. Why. It turns out that when I was a kid, when I was a kid, towards the end of school, when it was summer, I would love to go with my friends to climb blackberries, blackberries, I think they are, and eat them, right, before getting home. They weren't our trees. They were the trees of another lady. So maybe the story would have to be like we were stealing those blackberries,

but that's for another preaching. The thing is that we would go up, and after doing it for a long time in the summer, you are forming a beautiful ability to know which are the richest blackberries. And the richest blackberries for which we grew up climbing on trees were the big ones, very, very, very big and very black. You ate those, and in the heat of the summer, they exploded in your mouth. And they exploded in your clothes too, right? But when you found, while you were eating, trying to eat faster than your friends, who were on the same branch as you, you saw some of those blackberries that had a certain pink color. Some were totally pink, and some had little parts that were reddish. And it caught your attention because they look like raspberries. So you, in your mind, you say, wow, this is going to have a different flavor. But when you took the ones that were a little red and you put them in your mouth, they were sour like no one else. And it took so long to get the sour flavor out of your tongue that you had to eat four or five of the good ones to forget about that unripe flavor of the fruit. Listen to me. The problem wasn't with the fruit,

nor was the problem with the tree. The fruit was fine, and the tree was terrible. It's just that that fruit wasn't ready. It wasn't ready. Joseph has great promises from God, but he's not ready. What? He's not ready yet. And you can say, how do I know he's not ready? Well, Joseph may be, Joseph may be, don't tell me the Bible, what his motivation was when he told his dreams and everything, but you don't need to be a trained psychologist or a psychiatrist, having gone to college for 20 years to realize that you're in a broken family and that you're the favorite. You don't need to have a lot of knowledge for that. And yet, Joseph decides to tell him the dream that sets fire to all his brothers. When he sees the wound, Joseph seems like he's touching, not to heal, but to enlarge the wound. Joseph had great promises, but his heart wasn't ready yet. The fruit wasn't ripe yet. You'd expect a little more emotional or spiritual sensitivity from Joseph. And yet, all he shows is, it seems to be the text that tells you

that Joseph felt he had to prove himself. You know when you feel you need to prove yourself? Like, everyone rejects me, so I'm going to use what God gave me to show that I'm not the rejected one. So I'm going to use what God gave me to prove to everyone that God does prefer me. Joseph seems like he has a moral air of superiority over the rest of his brothers. And God loves Joseph too much to let him rule like that. The promises are great, but the heart is still immature and small. My dear, when you met Christ, when you received Christ as your personal savior, God didn't commit to giving you the most immediate shortcut to the promises He gave you. What God committed is to lead you along the long journey of the formation of your character so that you reach the end of the road not as you are, but as He wants to see you. Many of us are too hasty for God to give us the opportunity to be like Him. all that we feel is due to us. But I want you to know that God has given you Maybe you're like this this morning. Maybe you say, I'm angry with God the opportunity to be like Him. because God, they told me that the word of God And I want you to know that God has given you

said that I have all these promises and the answer is yes, you're fine. What no one told you is that God is not as rushed as you to take you to that place. God's point is not to take you from A to B in the fastest way there is. God's heart is to form your heart because maybe the promises are big but your heart is still small. Is there anyone listening to me this morning like this or not? The God of the Bible is not reacting to your life, he is directing it even when your heart is immature and still has some time to make the kind of heart that is ready to receive what God has for you. And that takes us not only to moments of immaturity but it takes us to the next scene which is what I call irrelevant moments. Moments that are apparently unimportant. Look at what verse 12 says. Not long after, Joseph's brothers went to Sikkim to graze his father's herds. And when they had already been there for a while, Jacob said to Joseph, your brothers are grazing the sheep in Sikkim. Get ready because I will send you to see them. I'm ready to go, said Joseph. Verse 15, when Joseph arrived in Sikkim, a man from that area found him walking around the field. What are you looking for? he asked.

I'm looking for my brothers, answered Joseph. Do you know where they are grazing their herds? Yes, said the man. They have left, but I heard them say, let's go to Dothan. Then Joseph followed his brothers to Dothan and there he found them. This second scene, which is flat, boring, nothing happened. Literally, what is happening in this scene is Joseph's brothers are grazing and feeding the sheep. And Jacob says to Joseph, go see your brothers. Okay, I'm going. He went where they said they were going to be. He's walking around because he can't find them. Then a man appears, who never appears again in history, and says, no, no, no, they're here, they're there. And Joseph says, okay, and he went. And you say, and what are you going to preach to me about that? What are you going to get out of that? It seems irrelevant, it seems like nothing is happening. But I'm going to tell you a secret that you may not be seeing. What is going to happen in Dothan, it doesn't matter where Dothan is now, the point is that it's another place where they were, okay? But what is going to happen in Dothan is going to be the most traumatic event in the whole family. What is about to happen in Dothan, where Joseph is going, little Joseph, is the place that is going to damage the heart of a father forever, it's going to fill the hearts of the brothers with guilt,

and it's also going to sink Joseph, at least at the beginning. At the same time, what is going to happen in Dothan is going to be the beginning of a story that is going to end up fulfilling all the dreams that God gave Joseph in Dothan. And it was all because, simply, at random, the father told him, go see the sheep, and when he went, a man appeared and said, no, no, they're over there. All events that seem like they're not connected, but God is using every conversation and every event to carry out his plan. There's a word that I want to give you this morning, and it's this, the providence of God. Do you know what providence is? I gave it my own definition, so it's easy to remember. Providence is the invisible thread of God. It's the thread through which God is weaving every part of your story. Including those conversations, including those events or years that seem like they're not connected to anyone, God is, in every boring and irrelevant moment, forming your story. Even if it seems like it's in silence, it's not. While I was thinking about this, the great people that appear in the Old Testament came to mind. Think of Moses. Why do you remember Moses? Look at me. Why do you remember Moses? Maybe you remember him when he opened the sea in two. Maybe you remember Moses when he's on top of Mount Sinai and he's showing you the laws, the commandments. Wow.

But what the Bible doesn't tell you much about is that there were 40 years in Moses' life, from the 40s to the 80s, before what you saw happened. Do you know what Moses was doing? He was in the desert, taking care of sheep. And nothing else. Nothing happened. Irrelevant. What do I do 40 years taking care of sheep? Not even his, it was his father-in-law's. Worse. Nothing worse than working for your father-in-law. I say this because I know my father-in-law is not seeing this service. Then you think of the apostle Paul, right? You say, no, that's all from the Old Testament. He took you to the New. The apostle Paul, who wrote a large part of your New Testament, he becomes Jesus. And you remember all the tremendous things he did for God. But he himself tells in the letter he writes to the Galatians, that there were two or three years after meeting Christ, immediately after meeting Christ, that he spent it in Arabia alone. And do you know what happened in Arabia? Who knows? Nothing is said. Alone. Years of nothing. Years of boredom. Years that you say, bro, this chapter, there is nothing there, bro.

There is nothing that God is writing. Nothing. I could still talk to you about my Messiah. You, what you remember about the Messiah, how good that you remember that, is that he died on the cross and rose again. Amen, yes or no? But those were the last three or four years. What happened in the first 30 years? You know only two things. That he was born, that something happened when he was 12 years old, and that's it. And do you know why you don't know much about what happened in his life? Because it didn't happen much. Years and years and years that seemed irrelevant. Nothing happened. But God, in his providence, is always weaving your story. As much as it seems that nothing is happening. Maybe you are a mother who is changing diapers during the week, and while you are changing that third diaper of that child that seems to be doing it on purpose, and you don't know how that can come out of such a cute baby, and you ask yourself, and you see on your Instagram, the other mothers that seem to have their lives made, and that made clothes for their children, and dug a garden in the back, bought 30 land, and also went to a beauty contest in Texas, and you are there changing diapers, saying, Bro, I don't have anything to give, I'm no one special. God is weaving your story. You are a man who says, Bro, I only have a job, it's not even the job I dreamed of having. I come home, I love my wife, I fight with my wife, I try to fix things,

I love my children, I try to serve God when I have free time, I don't feel like anything is happening. Where are those Facebook things? Where are the prophecies that told me that I was going to be a prophet to the nations? God is weaving your story. The providence of God is the way that God has to weave everything that you think has nothing to do with anything, and form something beautiful. But this is the key. Are you with me this morning, yes or no? The key is that you have no idea what is happening. You just have to believe. This is the most difficult thing about the providence of God, is that you can't read the providence. Now I know something beautiful about the life of Joseph, and I know how God used all this time, and I know how God is going to use what is going to happen in Dothan to save the family in the end. Joseph didn't know. But God is healing, because God doesn't react. God is leading your life. Can someone say amen or no? That's the God of the Bible. That's the God of the Bible. And what happens when you say, okay, you convinced me. God is leading my life even when my heart is immature and not ready. God is leading my life even when I'm in boring and irrelevant moments that seem to have nothing to do with anything. It's been years that nothing seems to be happening. But what happens when someone does something bad to you? What happens when you get hurt in a relationship,

or hurt in a church? What happens when you get hurt in a family that dishonored you? Where's the thread? And that's what we're going to answer now with the third scene, which I titled, This Can't Come From God. Or can it? Verse 18 says, When the brothers of Joseph saw him approach, they recognized him from afar. And as he was coming, they plotted a plan to kill him. Here comes the dreamer, they said. Come on, let's kill him and throw him in one of these cisterns. A well. We can tell our father, a wild animal ate him. Then we'll see what's left of his dreams. Can you read the accumulated resentment of years? Then, verse 23, When Joseph arrived, his brothers took off the beautiful tunic he was wearing. Then they grabbed him and threw him in the cistern. It turns out, or it was given, that the cistern was empty. They didn't have any water inside. Then, just when they sat down to eat, they looked up and saw a caravan of camels that was approaching. It was a group of Ismaelite merchants who transported gum, balsams, and aromatic resins from Galaad to this Egypt. Verse 28. Then, when the Ismaelites approached, who were Medianite merchants, the brothers of Joseph took it out of the cistern and sold it for twenty silver coins. And the merchants took it to Egypt. Verse 36.

Meanwhile, the Medianite merchants arrived in Egypt and sold it to Joseph Potiphar, who was an officer of the pharaoh, king of Egypt. Potiphar was captain of the palace guard. This cannot come from God. Now, there is an absolute lack of control. The brothers see that Joseph arrives because it was said that Pope Jacob sent him. That man in the field supposedly guided him by coincidence, but providence does not happen by coincidence. It is God who is sending you. And they say, let's kill him. And there is a failed fratricide because they try to kill his brother and he doesn't come out. They say, but look what the plan was. Look how sadistic. The plan to kill him, do you know what it was? Throw him where? To a place that supposedly had water. That is, they wanted to see their brother drowning until he died, just screaming and agonizing. Don't come to me with, oh, I can't believe the Bible shows something so horrible. The Bible is showing your heart full of resentment. It is capable of making it darker. And mine too. That's how men are. That's how women are. It turns out that he doesn't come out. And a brother, more sadistic than the others, sees that a slave sale is coming. They come with camels. You can listen to the Egyptian music in the background, if you want, to feed your scene.

And one says, hey, let's make profit. Let's not kill him. If we kill him, we're going to be guilty, we're going to feel bad in our hearts. Let's do something. Let's get him out of there and sell him. Let him die alone like a dog in Egypt. Let him die alone. Let him die alone in Egypt. So we don't feel so bad. And we also get a little money out of him. So they get him out. And I think you can imagine. They get him out of there. And Jose is saying, finally, thank you. How can you do this to me? And it's like, no, no, this is getting worse. We're going to make money from you. And they send him. And Jose ends up in Egypt. And I want you to ask yourself, what traumas did Jose have in that caravan? What burning resentment. You say, when God gives me my dream, I'm going to make these bastards pay one by one. I'm going to catch them. When God gives me what he promised me, I'm going to drown them in the water. I'm not even going to do it. I'm going to have servers and servers and servers

that are going to put them in. And I'm going to be watching from afar how they swallow the water and collapse their lungs. Wow, I have a lot of hate, don't I? But it's how I imagine I would. Imagine Jose's anger. And put yourself in his shoes. And I want to slow down a little bit. And I want you to ask yourself, where is God? Where is God? And the God who told me he was going to protect me, where is he? Of course, God was not the one who incited the brothers to throw him into that tank. Obviously, it was not God who made the decision to sell him. That is the responsibility of whom? Of the brothers. But even so, God did not save the day. God did not intervene to save, to dehumanize his chosen one. God did not do anything, apparently. And this is where I want to bring you and corner you. The Bible corners you so that you receive the most uncomfortable truth of God. Listen to me carefully. And it is this. It is true that God never produces evil. Can someone tell me amen? Amen. God does not tempt anyone, and evil always comes out of our hearts.

But, I want you to say with me, but, God, in a very mysterious way, always governs evil. Without producing it, without being responsible for what they did to you, the thread of God's providence, all the bad things they did to you and that they can do to you. Why? Because men can do many bad things. Never ruin God's plan. Never. God's providence, in a way that I will never know how to explain, includes the worst and the most unfair that can happen to you. Do you know how I know it? Because the most unfair moment that humanity has ever seen was when you and I nailed the Son of God to a piece of wood. The most horrible moment, the deepest well of our humanity was when we rejected the Son of God. And yet, when Jesus was dying, look at me, when Jesus was dying on the cross, God was not reacting. God was directing everything, so that this morning you could say, He saved me. God's providence and that invisible thread is always weaving its story, even in the most horrendous events that can happen to you. And if this morning I could sit with Joseph, imagine with me, there is the camel caravan, they are taking him, imagine that he is all in pain and he is all hurt because they threw him into that cistern that had no water. His body is lacerated and his heart is broken.

And I sit down to talk to Joseph. Sit with me for a moment, freeze that image. Freeze the image of Joseph leaving. And the brothers are left behind counting the 20 coins, ok? Are you with me? What would you say to Joseph? What would you say to Joseph? I would not say, Don't worry little brother, God has a plan, surely He wants to teach you a lesson. I never do that. I never look at the suffering of a brother or sister saying, surely God wants to teach you a lesson. I can't read the providence, I don't know what is the thread that God is using. I can't read any scene. I will never tell him he is a brother. But what I would say is, look Joseph, I read your story, and I am not going to ask you not to be hurt by what is happening to you. I am not telling you that what they did to you was good. What they did to you, sooner or later God will bring it to judgment. But listen to me well Joseph, listen to me well. I read how your story ends. And God is not reacting to what they did to you. God is directing your life. Trust me. I am telling you because I know what I am telling you. Maybe you are here this morning and you say, Pablo, I am in such an absurd moment in my life.

Nothing connects with nothing. I thought this was going to happen, everything collapsed, and in the end now nothing makes sense. Don't tell me this makes sense because I don't know what makes sense. And I come here this morning to say, I don't know what makes sense. I am not here to solve your pain. I don't know why you are in that moment right now. I don't know. But what I am asking you in the name of Jesus is, don't believe that the sheets are blank. Abba continues to write. Even if you can't see, He continues to write. Can someone say Amen? Amen. And I still want you to look at me. And I want you to listen to me. That bad thing that happened to you, God did not produce it. That bad thing they did to you, God did not produce it. Because God does not tempt anyone, nor can you be tempted by evil. But there is another option than living your whole life victimizing yourself for what happened to you. There is another option. You have an alternative of living thinking that your life is a collection of betrayals, my life is just a sum of the things they did to me. No, no, no, no. Everything has to do with your theology. Are you, God, reacting or are you directing your life even in your worst moments? That is the only question.

The mother of all questions. Is there any man who can break the plan that God has in your life? Answer me. That's the God of the Bible. I want you to stand up. Let's pray. Where are you? Close your eyes. Those who are up there, too. Those who are down here. Leaders can come to the front. They're going to be ministering today. I want you to close your eyes. Maybe, even those who are looking at the screen, I want you to hear me well. Everyone with their eyes closed, no one looking. This morning, God is speaking. Maybe, right now, you're interpreting your story as an abandonment of God. Maybe, this morning, you're telling me, there's no way a God exists. And if that God exists, he's definitely not good. He's not good because a good God would never have allowed it. And I want to ask you something this morning. Listen to me well. A good God would never have allowed what? What's in there? Fill in the blank. My dear friend, if Jesus, the eternal Son of God, became man, died on the cross,

shed his blood, and was rejected by you and by me, and that act ended up being your own access to dad, I assure you of something. There is no chapter of pain or abandonment in your life, no matter how painful and horrible it may have been, that can mean that God abandoned you. I only read once in the Bible that God abandoned someone, and that's his own son, when he punished in him my sins and your sins. And if Jesus resurrected and God proved that he loved you and that he died to save you, certainly, this morning, even if you're in that, in that camel caravan going to Egypt, not understanding why you were rejected, not understanding why you're in this moment in your life that has no explanation, I can tell you something. God is not reacting to your life. God is directing it. And maybe this morning, the guide has taken you to a place that you would never have chosen to go. But it is precisely what turns him into God, and you into his Son, and not the other way around. Si estás esta mañana, y eso es lo que Dios a vos te habló, cuando empecemos a cantar, quiero que pases al frente para que podamos ministrar de esa verdad. Dejanos orar por vos. Dejanos orar por vos. Señor, en el nombre de Jesús, mientras cantamos, as we sing, te quiero pedir que el Espíritu Santo haga en un momento lo que yo ni nosotros en mil años podríamos hacer, que es tratar con el corazón de las personas. Because if anything, what I need you to remind me of, by your word, is who you are. I know that there are many of us who, because of what happened to us or what is happening to us, have redefined who you are. And now it's all blurry. And it looks all blurry. I don't know who you are. And by your word, I remember who you are and that you did not lose control. Thank you for Jesus. Thank you for His death and resurrection. Thank you for never having lost control in your life. I can freely access you, Father. Thank you for the blood that was shed. Thank you because you did not go anywhere. Although sometimes it feels like you left. Thank you when my emotions do not correspond to your truth. Your truth is my rock. You did not leave. You are not reacting. We have two people who have given their lives to Christ. Juan visits us from Brownsville, Texas. While I was talking to him. He tells me that every two times a year he comes here.
