What does the story tell? People asked him how he did to sculpt such works. How could he be so detailed? How could he be so nuanced in the works he sculpted on the marble? I insist, the story tells us that Miguel Angel's answer was the following. It's easy. You'll see it on your screen. It's easy. The figure is already inside the marble. I just remove what is left. I just remove what is left. This is a tremendous parable and image, for me, if you ask me, that represents what happens to you once you receive Christ as your Savior and as your Lord. I'll tell you what I mean. Most of us have idealized what it means to convert to Jesus.

Obviously, you come, you don't know Christ, you go to hell, that's what the Word of God says. Someone tells you that Christ died on the cross for you, that he shed his blood, that he rose again, and that if you accept him in your heart as your personal Savior, your destiny changes. You are now a child of God and the Holy Spirit comes into your life. Isn't that right? However, it's natural for us to think that's where it ends, that's where the work ends. And your testimony is a sort of filtered testimony, an Instagram testimony, in which it seems that when you tell it, you were lost, you met Christ, and everything changed in your life. From one night to the next, everything changed. Can I ask you something in the name of Jesus? Stop lying. It's not the truth. There's a lot that changed when you met Christ. What happened in your life with Christ was real. When you received Christ, God changed your life, He changed your eternal destiny. That's real. But it's not all the truth that you're saying.

That's when a path began in which the Holy Spirit took the chisel and began to strike. He began to strike in the areas of your life that you never thought God had to strike. And without asking permission, He began to form the image of that Messiah who saved you. By striking. And that's not something that God asks for permission. I feel like God would have to ask me for my opinion on where to strike. I'm the one who would have to choose what situation I'm in. I'm the one who would have to choose what God has to work on in my life. And what if I tell you this sweet morning that you're wrong. When you get involved in this and when you receive Christ in your life and the Holy Spirit comes into your heart, you've lost control of your life. And now the control is in the hands of the one who has the chisel. And all He wants to do, I insist, is to form the image that is already in your heart and remove everything that is left over. Everything that is not of Christ in your life. And if you look in the Bible for a story that shows you this process of God with the chisel

removing everything that is left over, I would tell you, go to Genesis and look with me at the story of Jacob. So if you have your Bible, I want you to lift it up high. Lift it up high. And what do we say? This is the word of God. And I want you to go to the word of God in Genesis chapter 29. While you're going to Genesis chapter 29, I'll tell you a little bit about what's going on in case you're half lost, half lost. In the previous chapter, Jacob had deceived his half-blind father and he had also deceived his brother Esau. And one way or another he had stayed. He had stolen the inheritance from his grandfather, Abraham. So Jacob's mother, Jacob's patron, told him, get out of here. I want you to find a girlfriend in my brother's house, very far from here. And I want you to get married there and then come back to take the inheritance from your grandfather Abraham, which you stole very well. I don't want you to take much time. Come so that no one can steal what you yourself have stolen. So Jacob took the inheritance.

He embarks on this journey, and during the journey he finds himself alone. This is what I told you last week. He finds himself alone in the middle of nowhere. His mother is no longer there, his daddy is no longer there, he has no one to deceive or to take any excuses from. And when he is alone, God has his first encounter with Jacob. For the first time, God ceases to be a religion for Jacob, and God becomes Jacob's God. There is a great distance between having God as a religion and having God as what? As your God, as my God. That happens, that experience happens in Jacob. He continues on his way to his maternal uncle's house, and that's where the story we're going to read today comes in. If you're taking notes, I'm going to tell you how I understand this chapter. There are three scenes, okay? I'm going to tell you about one so you can write it down if you want to continue studying, and if not, just follow me. The first scene I put it like this. New theology, read it with me. It was customary to wait for all the herds to arrive before removing the stone and giving the animals something to drink. Then the mouth of the well was covered again with the stone. And Jacob approached the shepherds. And I jump to verse 9. Jacob was still talking to them when Rachel arrived with the herds of her father, because she was a shepherd. Since Rachel was his cousin, the daughter of Laban, the brother of his mother, and since the sheep and goats belonged to his uncle Laban, Jacob went to the well

and removed the stone that covered the mouth and gave the herds of his uncle something to drink. Then Jacob kissed Rachel and cried out loud. That's the first scene I put. New theology, heart, what? Okay, I'll tell you a little bit about what's going on here. Jacob arrived, he already had his experience with God, right? Like when you have your experience with God, you get baptized, et cetera, et cetera. He arrives at a well, which is very close to his GPS, he takes it right next to his uncle Laban's house, and they leave him in a well. In that well, he meets several shepherds, sheep and goats, but they were all just chatting. And no one did anything. With the well, no one gave him anything to drink. It's a similar feeling. You know when you're at Walmart and you're in a hurry, and you want to go to the self-checkout because you don't want to see any human being, and in front of you there are two ladies who are gossiping and gossiping, and they don't even let you go. And those two ladies are Spanish scroogers. Jacob says, hey, and here everyone is talking, no one is going to open the door.

He mentions the word stone several times. Because Jacob is proving that even though he had an experience with God, listen to me, are you with me this morning, yes or no?

Jacob is proving that he had an experience with God. But he is still the same as before. He is still the get out of here and let me do it guy. I don't need to consult anyone. I don't need anyone's help. I don't need anyone's help. I know how to do it. If I have a stone to move, I move it. And if I can't do it in 8 or 9, guess what? I move it. And if I have to impress someone without asking anyone, I do it. And you know what impressed me the most? When I read this text, it made me cry. I said, Pastor, you start crying for a man who moves a stone? Do you know why it made me cry? Because I admire Jacob like this. I like that about Jacob. Man, I got this. I don't need anyone's help. I got this. In fact, I was just talking. In the week I was a little sick with allergies. I got, let's say,

don't ask my wife, but I got a little unbearable, let's say. In her words. I got a little unbearable and I agree with my wife. I was absolutely unbearable all week because of my allergy. And it turns out that at one point she was telling me a story. And I don't know what it was. It was like she had to make a decision. And I got tired. I got tired. I listened to her. Because that confidence that doesn't make anyone ask, I don't need this, I don't need a group, I don't need people, I don't need someone to tell me, I know! And you know what? It's not just my fault here, because I'm doing a little catharsis here. I've met more women than men like that. I'm sorry. It's the truth. Say something, bro. Women said, thank you. Maybe your friends like you, maybe in your post you're a champion or a champion, but in the kingdom it's not worth much your ability to do things for yourself. My request is that you show the one you have chosen as your wife for Isaac. That way I will know that you have shown unwavering love for whom? Eliezer, who was Jacob's grandfather's servant, in the same place, stood and asked for advice from whom? You tell me, from whom? God. And I'm still messing with him, with my blessed microphone. There it is. He had asked God for advice, and Jacob never asks for advice from whom? Why? Because Jacob can. Jacob can do it alone. Jacob doesn't need help. So, there's a new theology, an old heart, and God has to take the whip, and the blow is not going to last. That brings us to the second scene, which is the one where I put the blow where it hurts the most. I'm reading verses 14 and on, it goes like this.

Jacob stayed with Laban for about a month, and then Laban said to him, you shouldn't work for me without getting paid, just because we're relatives. Tell me how much your salary should be. And Laban had two daughters. The oldest was called Leah, and the youngest was called Raquel. There was no shine in Leah's eyes, but Raquel had a beautiful figure and a pretty face. Since Jacob was in love with Raquel, he told his father, I'll work for you for seven years if you give me your youngest daughter as my wife, Raquel. I agree, Laban said. I'd rather give her to you than to anyone else. Stay and work for me. So Jacob worked for seven years to get Raquel, but his love for her was so strong that she disappeared for a few days. And what do they all have to say? Aw. Aw. Finally, it was time to marry her. I have fulfilled my part of the agreement, said Jacob to Laban. Now give me my wife so I can sleep with her. Now I'm going to explain that to you again. The situation was quite desperate. So Laban invited all the people around and prepared a wedding party.

But that night, when it was dark, Laban took Leah and gave her to Jacob, and he slept with her. Verse 95. And the next morning, when Jacob woke up, what did he say? Oops! Wrong sister. He saw that it was Leah. What did you do to me? said Laban furiously. I have worked for Raquel for seven years. Why did you deceive me? And Laban said, Here it is not our custom to marry the youngest daughter before the eldest. Laban replied. But wait until the wedding week is over, and then I will also give you Raquel, as long as you promise to work for me another seven years. So Jacob agreed to work seven more years. Can I give you my way of understanding this story? So this is what he is telling you here. Jacob stays at his father-in-law's house for a month. And in LaVan, LaVan realizes something very quickly. This one comes, as we say in the street, with his tail between his legs. What does he say? He doesn't bring a peso. He's a fugitive.

He's running away. He's not going to benefit me. So LaVan also realizes that Jacob has eyes for whom? For his daughter? Raquel, OK? He has two daughters. Lea seemed like she didn't attract much attention for some reason. And Raquel tells us, I don't know how in the Old Testament it was defined when a woman was more beautiful than another, but here it tells us that Raquel was definitely more beautiful. She was more striking. So LaVan realizes that and starts talking to Jacob. And I think in a conversation, LaVan is so sharp, so alive, that LaVan makes an idea come to Jacob. And Jacob says, I'll make you a deal, I'll make you a deal, I'll make you a future father-in-law. And if I work for you for seven years, and those seven years I don't keep a single peso, it's all for you. And after seven years, I'll marry Raquel. What do you think? And LaVan says, OK. So Jacob works for a year, works for two years, three, four, five, six years working. But he says that Jacob, when he was counting the days, as if he were in prison, he felt like it was a few days because he was lost in love. L'amour, as we say in French. So Jacob goes to LaVan and says, well, I've worked for seven years.

I couldn't save anything during those seven years. Give me Raquel because I want to sleep with her. It's a bit of a hard way to talk to a future father-in-law. But let's say that Jacob, he's had it. He's ready. So LaVan says, well, OK. What do you think? I'll prepare the party for you, says the father-in-law. Be careful when the father-in-law tells you that he's going to prepare the party. Be careful. Be careful. The father-in-law prepares the party for him at the nuptial parties. They lasted a week at that time. And the first night, what you did in the world of the Old Testament, is that for the night, as a groom, you wrapped the bride with your cloak. And after that first night, you went to a room in which you consummated the marriage. OK? It may seem a little strange to you, but that's how things worked. So the first day passes, the night procession. We can assume that Jacob is a little drunk, maybe. And when he's walking with the bride, who is all dressed in her cloak, LaVan, behind some wall, I don't know how he did this, what did he do? He changed. He grabbed his daughter Leah, the one who couldn't marry anyone, covered her, and said to Raquel, you come here. It turns out that they get into that room, and well, what has to happen happens on the wedding night. And don't blame Jacob, because remember that the electricity hadn't arrived yet. There was no electricity, OK?

There was no electricity, and the guy was seven years old, waiting until this moment. Let's say that the level of desperation was very high, right? It was very high. So whatever needs to happen happens, and he wakes up in the morning. Jacob, I think, gets up and says, honey, do you want me to make you some fried eggs? And when he turns around, what does he realize? Oops. The wrong sister. And he ends up telling LaVan, father-in-law, son of a thousand Philistines, you played me. How are you going to do this to me? And LaVan gives him an explanation that doesn't make sense. No, that's the culture of the place. If this were true, you had seven years to explain to him that that was the culture of the place, right? Obviously, LaVan takes this to say, well, don't worry, I'll give you the other one. But sign here that you're going to work for me seven more years, and that everything you earn is going to be for me. Jacob is totally cornered, and the only thing he can do is what? And sign. Another seven more years working only to enrich whom? So, you say, pastor, what conclusion do I draw from this story? Jacob had fooled him. Look at me for a second. Now I'm going to explain to you what Deja Vu means. Maybe you say, Pablo, but then what do I do if I have a father-in-law? And the only thing I can say is, Jacob understands you. Jacob gets it.

Jacob had spent his life deceiving people. And now it's his turn. God in Jacob's life put more than a complicated, hard-to-swallow father-in-law. God had put a mirror so that Jacob would face the worst enemy he had. Do you know who he was? Jacob. Jacob is confronted with his past. The deceiver is now deceived. The one who had seen life as a chess board and everyone he moved according to his pleasure to achieve the play he wanted, now he realized that he was a pawn in chess and someone else had played this game with him. And I'll tell you something, my friend. Many times God is going to hit you by making you try your own medicine. Many times you are so tired of God putting you in that marriage, giving you that son, giving you that leader, giving you that person, that boss. Oh, unbearable, unbearable. And what if God... Are you with me this morning or not? And what if God... Yes, maybe he gave you an unbearable husband. Maybe he gave you a difficult son. Maybe he gave you a father, a father-in-law, a wife, an uncle, a boss, a leader, a pastor. Kind of complicated. But what if God was giving you a mirror? And what if God put you in that situation? Because otherwise you were going to spend your whole life diagnosing the problem of others, but you never looked in the mirror. You know how to come and tell me how your husband, your son, your boss is the problem, but you never asked yourself if God is trying to show you something. About whom?

About you. And you would never have faced it unless God had put you in that situation. It happened to me a few years ago. Now I'm going to tell you an example with my wife. We were in a marriage pot five years ago, more or less. We were having a bad time. We were having a very bad time. And I looked for advice from a man who still mentors me to this day. And he said, what do you want to talk about? And I said, the problem of my life. And he said, what is your problem? And I said, my wife. He didn't answer me. He said, when do we get together? And he said, what is your problem? And I started describing my wife. She doesn't connect with me. I have this way of speaking, and she doesn't want to listen to me. She doesn't want to work with me. When I talk to her, she's tired. When I want something, she's tired. She has a headache. And I told her everything, diagnosing the problem I had. Whose name was her. And after listening to me a little, I think my mentor got tired. He looked at me and said, Can I ask you a question? I was waiting for him to say, wow, what a hero you are. Wow, what a cross.

He looked at me and said, When was the last time you stopped and you connected with her the way she likes to connect? It hurt me and it made me angry. I said, this mentor, who recommended him to me? He was right. The message was this. God is hitting you with what you have done to others. But you don't like to admit it. Because in your little brain, in your little universe, it's always someone else's fault. But you've never taken the time to think, How could God have brought me to this moment, to this situation? To deal with my life. To deal with my problems. To deal with the way I've had to deal with others. Deja vu, I've seen it. And many times, you're trying to ask the Lord to take you out of some circumstance. And God himself is telling you, I gave you that mirror. Look at me. I gave you that mirror. What happens is that you don't know how to see yourself in the mirror. And until you face yourself, you will never be able to have the form of Jesus.

Entonces él dice, bueno, por lo menos acá tengo a Raquel. Ahora estoy clavado con esta lea que nunca me gustó, pero bueno. Pero Raquel va a ser la que va a dar a luz los hijos que yo quiero. Yo voy a continuar el plan con la que yo quise. Dios puede ser que él haya querido como set me up para que yo me mirara al espejo, pero aún así yo voy a salir ganando en esta. You know? Guess what happens. Si vos le agregás cientos y cientos y cientos de años a esta historia, ¿sabés quién va a nacer de la línea de Judá?

¿Viste a aquel a quien vos llamás mi Mesías y mi Señor? Jesús terminaría naciendo de aquella que Jacob nunca escogió. Porque Dios no le pide permiso a Jacob. Dios es Dios. Y Jacob tuvo, a través de lo que pasó con Raquel, Jacob tuvo que aprender y entender una cosa. Escuchame bien. Mirame a mí. Jacob tuvo que aprender una cosa. Dios a mí no me pide permiso. A ver dónde golpea. Y Dios va a hacer lo que Dios quiera porque Dios es Dios. Yo no soy Dios. Y esta es una de las cosas que yo tengo que entregar finalmente. Yo no tengo el control de mi vida. No tengo el control de lo que Dios quiere hacer. Yo lo único que puedo hacer es decir, acá está tu siervo y martilla donde sea que tienes que martillar. ¿Alguien me puede decir amén a esto, sí o no? Cuando a Miguel Ángel le preguntaron, ¿cómo haces? ¿Cómo haces para terminar con una escultura tan perfecta? Y él dijo, es fácil. Lo único que tengo que hacer es quitar lo que sobra. Mi querido amigo, quiero que me mires en el nombre de Jesús. Y también los que están viendo desde sus casas o desde la prisión. Dios ahora mismo detiene en la situación que él escogió para vos. Te digo algo en el nombre de Jesús. Preguntate qué es lo que el Espíritu Santo quiere mostrarte a vos. ¿Sobre quién? Sobre vos. ¿Qué es lo que sobra de Cristo en tu vida? Que ahora él mismo está golpeando para quitar. Y te digo algo. Él no está golpeándote para castigarte por sus pecados. Porque el castigo ya cayó en la cruz. No hay más castigo para vos si crees en Cristo. Él está golpeando porque es la única forma de que vos termines. Pareciéndote un poquito más al Mesías quien te salvó. Esa es la figura que él implantó en tu corazón cuando te salvó. ¿Alguien me puede decir amen a eso sí o no? Quiero que te pongas de pie. Con los ojos cerrados y nadie mirando.
